In this paper, we investigate whether greedy algorithms, traditionally used for pedestrian-based crowdsensing, remain effective in the context of vehicular crowdsensing (VCS). Vehicular crowdsensing leverages vehicles equipped with sensors to gather and transmit data to address several urban challenges. Despite its potential, VCS faces issues with user engagement due to inadequate incentives and privacy concerns. In this paper, we use a dynamic incentive mechanism based on a recurrent reverse auction model, incorporating vehicular mobility patterns and realistic urban scenarios using the Simulation of Urban Mobility (SUMO) traffic simulator and OpenStreetMap (OSM). By selecting a representative subset of vehicles based on their locations within a fixed budget, our mechanism aims to improve coverage and reduce data redundancy. We evaluate the applicability of successful participatory sensing approaches designed for pedestrian data and demonstrate their limitations when applied to VCS. This study investigates the flow field and turbulence characteristics within two types of S-shaped ducts through both experimental and numerical methods. The experiments include pressure measurements and constant temperature anemometry, while the numerical simulations employ the Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) approach. To ensure the accuracy of the simulations, a mesh independence study was conducted, and the results were compared with experimental data. Additionally, three common turbulence models— k − ϵ , k − ω , and the shear stress transport (SST)—were tested. After comparing the two S-shaped ducts, the configuration with superior performance was selected for further unsteady simulations. Modal analysis was subsequently performed using proper orthogonal decomposition, dynamic mode decomposition, and spectral proper orthogonal decomposition. The results show that the S-shaped diffuser performs better when the diffusion rate follows an S-shaped curve rather than a linear increase. In low-velocity experiments, a 1 kHz sampling frequency and 1-second period suffice for turbulence analysis, as higher values only yield minimal differences. Regarding the simulation, although RANS simulations can match the experiment, the discrepancies with experimental data can also not be ignored. Among the three turbulence models, the SST model best matches the experiment. However, modal analysis of the transient flow field reveals that RANS makes it hard to capture turbulence details in low-speed conditions, and only the k − ϵ model has modes with clear dynamic patterns. This study investigates the flow characteristics within an S-shaped duct at low speeds and examines the impact of varying lengths of upstream and downstream extensions on the internal flow field. The experimental setup includes an S-shaped duct model and an axial fan, with the fan positioned downstream to regulate flow velocity within the duct. Taking the S-duct throat as the reference point, the velocity range under investigation spans from 0.06 to 0.15 Mach. Measurements are taken in a region between the S-shaped duct and the fan using a traverse system to capture aerodynamic interface plane flow parameters. Additionally, wall static pressure measurements are utilized to characterize the flow field within the duct. Results indicate that although flow velocity has a relatively minor effect on the flow pattern inside the S-duct, it can cause a significant fluctuation of the wall static pressure coefficient. In contrast, the influences of the upstream and downstream extensions on the flow pattern inside the S-duct are more critical. Specifically, the upstream extension directly impacts the stall region at the duct's bottom and significantly increases the inlet boundary thickness, while the downstream extension determines the flow modes of the secondary flow on the exit. When both upstream and downstream extensions are sufficiently long, the influence of flow velocities on the flow pattern inside the S-duct can be almost eliminated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although great strides have been made in increasing equality and inclusion in organizations, a number of stigmatized groups are overlooked by diversity initiatives, including people with a history of cancer. To examine the workplace experiences of these individuals in selection contexts, we conducted 3 complementary studies that assess the extent to which cancer is disclosed, the stereotypes associated with cancer in the workplace, and discrimination resulting from these stereotypes. In a pilot study, we surveyed 196 individuals with a history of cancer (across 2 samples) about their workplace disclosure habits. In Study 1, we explored stereotypes related to employees with a history of cancer using the framework outlined by the stereotype content model. In Study 2, we used a field study to assess the experiences of job applicants who indicated they were "cancer survivors" (vs. not) with both formal and interpersonal forms of discrimination. This research shows that cancer is disclosed at relatively high rates (pilot study), those with a history of cancer are stereotyped as being higher in warmth than competence (Study 1), and the stereotypes associated with those who have had cancer result in actual discrimination toward them (Study 2). We discuss the theory behind these findings and aim to inform both science and practice with respect to this growing workplace population.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to explore the work-based learning (WBL) ethos of a professional studies doctoral program, a higher degree by research program implemented in Australia. Design/methodology/approach: This is a preliminary case study of one higher degree by research program and two doctoral candidates participating in the program to explore the ethos and outcomes of the program. Findings: The program has sought to develop a different type of higher education ethos, one characterized by an open-door communications policy, a critical friend philosophy, an emphasis on teamwork, pro tem supervision and a new model for doctoral supervision, self-designed work-based projects, self-directed research programs and the development of professional identity. Originality/value: The characteristics and contributions of WBL programs at the doctoral level have been well documented in the academic literature, but the unique ethos, if there is one, of such programs has yet to be fully examined. This study goes some of the way to answering the question of whether such programs have a unique ethos and if so what are its features and how might it contribute to student development.
