Revised and newly developed formulas for prediction of plastic deformations of structural elements in suppressive structures are presented in this report. These equations give improved agreement with literature, data and solutions for more structural elements than previous reports., See also report dated Nov 1975, ADA022333.

This report presents methods for predicting blast loads, quasi-static pressure rises, and venting times within suppressive structures. In addition, side-on pressures outside these vented structures are estimated. Data are presented in scaled form.

This report documents work performed for the Edgewood Arsenal Suppressive Structures program. Included were the development of approximate energy solutions for the response of structures to blast loading, the analysis of strain data from the Category I 1/4-scale model tests, and calculations of pressure-time histories for the burning of M10 propellants in the Category V shield.

Equations are developed for predicting permanent deformations of structural elements, based on energy solutions. The equations apply to either impulsive or quasi-static response of simple structures, beams and plates. Some solutions are compared to literature data.

This report includes a discussion and similitude analysis of the penetration of spaced armor by dense, long rod projectiles. Many geometric and physical parameters are included in the analysis. A general scale model law is given, and the implications of replica and dissimilar material assumptions are discussed in detail. Very few scaling parameters are distorted for either assumption. A model validation test program is recommended for both the replica and dissimilar material assumptions. Practical lower limits on model scale and statistical methods for comparing model and prototype data are briefly discussed.

This report is the first in a series describing the development of methods for estimating dynamic loading and plastic response of suppressive structures. It covers application to containment of the blast from an accidental explosion in a melt loading operation, and includes preliminary developments of methods to predict blast loads and plastic structural response.

This report presents the results of a design study for a structure to suppress blast and fragment effects from detonation of a large quantity of Comp B explosive in a melt kettle. A number of design concepts were evaluated, and a specific configuration recommended. Relatively detailed design drawings were prepared., See also report dated Nov 1975, ADA022333.

This manual was prepared to provide Architect-Engineer (AE) firms guidance for the prediction of air blast, ground shock and fragment loadings of structures as a result of accidental explosions in or near these structures. The manual is complementary to existing structural design manuals and can be used in combination with other manuals by AE firms to design new buildings which are resistant to blast and fragmentation effects of an accidental explosion. Another objective was to aid in the assessment of the explosion-resistant capabilities of existing buildings at the Pantex Plant near Amarillo, Texas. The manual is specific for new or existing facilities at the Pantex Plant. However, most data and prediction methods are presented in general terms and can be applied to other high explosive facilities if proper modifying factors are used.
