- Abstract
"This beautiful 1899 chromolithograph chronicles the 1,300-mile journey of the Mormons from Nauvoo, on the Mississippi River, across the Great Plains and Rocky Mountains to the Great Salt Lake. Filled with images and pictorial vignettes that depict the notable features of the route, the story told by the print manipulates scale in order to emphasize the dramatic aspects of the trek--for example, the crossing of the Great Plains occupies only a small portion on the right of the map. The route taken by Brigham Young's party is marked, with each day's camp indicated. Flanking the route itself are tiny profile views of Chimney Rock, Fort Laramie, Devil's Gate, Giant Butte, Pulpit Rock and numerous other features of the trail west. Along the bottom of the print is a set of much larger images of scenes and scenery of the journey, including the wagon train crossing a river, a native American village, and the scenery of the Rockies. The print's narration is said to have been derived from the journals of Orson Pratt and his brother Parley P. Pratt, original members of the 'Quorum of Twelve Apostles'. There are three known versions of this view, including two variants of a large-scale edition and one reduced edition. Most known examples of the large edition were printed on thin paper and folded into a 31-page Guide to the route map of the Mormon pioneers from Nauvoo to Great Salt Lake, 1846-1847. The present example, however, was printed on very heavy card stock, issued separately, and clearly intended for presentation and/or display. The small-scale edition measures roughly 8.5 x 29 inches, lacks the legend and vignette in the lower margin, and bears a prominent note that it was 'issued by the New Wilson European Hotel, Salt Lake City'. This edition seems to have been issued over several years both as a pocket map and tipped into a guidebook. For its part, the large-scale edition was issued in Salt Lake City, Utah by Millroy & Hayes. OCLC records no other publications under their name, though "Millroy" was likely the J.J. Millroy who in 1897 published Millroy's Map of Alaska and the Klondyke gold fields."--Description of Neatline Antique Maps.

- Abstract
The Frederick Hoffman Wood photograph collection consists of 35mm color transparencies and color prints taken by Fred Wood that document his participation in the 1955-56 Hatch-Eggert River Expedition. Named for head boatman Don Hatch and photographer/film maker Charles Eggert, the purpose of this summer-long river trip down the Green and Colorado Rivers was to photograph and film the river canyons before construction started on the dams at Flaming Gorge and Glen Canyon. The voyage consisted of two separate sections: the Green River from Green River, Wyoming to Lees Ferry, Arizona, in the summer of 1955, and from Lees Ferry, Arizona, through the Grand Canyon to Lake Mead in the summer of 1956. Box 1 contains color prints taken during the 1955 journey, from Wyoming to Lees Ferry. There are some that were apparently developed with a different process, or on a different film, that still retain good color, but, unfortunately, for the most part, these prints have faded. As donated, the prints were in small double photo albums. As the paper stock of the albums was acidic, the prints were removed and the albums discarded. Very few of the original prints were labeled; instead, small slips of paper were inserted to label a few of the prints. These are retained in their respective folders. Information found on any of these slips that identifies a particular photograph will be found in the register surrounded by quote marks ("___"). Any information that is evident from the context but not labeled on the photographs will be included in the register in brackets, [___]. Box 2 contains color 35mm transparencies of the 1956 leg of the expedition, through the Grand Canyon. In some cases, individual slides were identified, but most are unlabeled. A small collection of correspondence, brochures, and memorabilia, is found in ACCN 1603. The 8mm color films that accompanied the collection are housed in A0692. VHS videtotape copies of the films are available for patron viewing.

- Abstract
The Aaron Belnap Ross Collection consists of 35mm color transparencies taken by Dr. Ross, mainly during his river trips on the Green, Colorado, and other rivers of the western United States. As donated, each river trip was in a separate slide holder, and this original order was maintained with one exception, the folder taking the place of the slide holder. Thus, some folders may contain over 100 slides, while others contain as few as three. It is not known what happened to the other slides in cases where only a few document a particular river trip., The Aaron Belnap Ross Collection consists of 35mm color transparencies taken by Dr. Ross, mainly during his river trips on the Green, Colorado, and other rivers of the western United States from 1957 to 1971. These include the Green, Colorado, Yampa, San Juan, and other rivers. Besides scenes of camping, rapids, and canyons, Dr. Ross often photographed flowers, historical sites, and other river runners such as Don Harris, Jack Brennan, Otis "Dock" Marston, Jimmy Jordan, and Woody Edgell.; The photographs as received from the donor were arranged in chronological order, and that order has been maintained.; River trips, 1957 - April - May 1968; Friendship Cruise; Moab to Hite / Cataract Canyon; Grand Canyon; Grand Canyon; Westwater to Hite; Cataract Canyon to Glen Canyon; Cataract Canyon to Glen Canyon; Desolation Canyon; Glen Canyon; Desolation Canyon; Cataract Canyon; Grand Canyon; Grand Canyon; Yampa River; Wheeler [Peak, Nevada?] Road; Grand Canyon; Grand Canyon; River trips, April 1968 - 1972; Miscellaneous; Yampa River; Grand Canyon; Grand Canyon; Grand Canyon; Cataract Canyon; Grand Canyon; Grand Canyon; Grand Canyon; Southern Utah car camping; Colorado River above Moab, Utah; Grand Canyon; Grand Canyon; Grand Canyon; Grand Canyon; Grand Canyon; Havasu Canyon; Miscellaneous; 1 - 70. - Abstract
The photographs in this collection are digital scans of slides put together as a slide show by A. Oscar Olson. Most of them were taken during a Glen Canyon river trip with SOCOTWA Expeditions in May, 1962; while the rest were taken on later visits to Lake Powell in the 1960s through 1990s. He took the later photographs in order to show the changes in the original locations brought about by the filling of Lake Powell reservoir behind Glen Canyon dam. The images depict the usual scenes of a SOCOTWA river trip, including the launch, days and events on the river, visits to attractions such as Hole In The Rock and Rainbow Bridge, camp scenes, and other events. All but a few of the images were made on 35mm Ektachrome film, which later faded to red. Mr. Olson asked Nelson Wadsworth, an archivist at Utah State University, to adjust the color digitally to return the images to their original color, which was largely successful. The images, however, were taken out of their original order during this process and thus are out of sequence. This is noted where applicable in the register. All photographs were taken in May, 1962, unless otherwise noted. All information for captions supplied by Oscar Olson on June 25, 2003., Mr. Olson asked Nelson Wadsworth, an archivist at Utah State University, to adjust the color digitally to return the images to their original color, which was largely successful. Following: Letter accompanying steel boxes of slides. June 21, 1995. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service would like to donate these photographs to the Special Collections of Marriott Library. The photographs include color slides, color prints, and black and white prints taken in the 50s and 60s. The subjects are primarily Federal Water projects built in Utah and Colorado under the Central Utah Water Project and other programs. Some of the photographs are of drainages before major dam projects were built. We also have several file folders of black and White aerial photographs. Most of the slides and prints are labeled as to subject date, and location. we believe these photos will be useful to researchers because they are labeled so well. We would like these photos to be accessible to the public under the normal restrictions the Archives uses to protect and preserve photographs. Reed Harris, Field Supervisor., P0684 is partially processed. The boxes/folders are labeled according to the original organization of the slides as they were given to the library. However, this is not a permanent organization. It is recommended to put the folders in alphabetical order. - Abstract
These photographs were purchased piecemeal, and so constitute an "artificial" collection which can be added to when individual items are purchased or donated. The photographs were arranged by series when indicated, or in a rough chronological order determined by the appearance of mounts and other evidence. For instance, albumen prints were placed before collodion-chloride or gelatin-chloride prints. Captions, whether printed or hand-written, were taken verbatum from the photographs. Any additional notes appear in brackets. The images range from fair to excellent in condition.

- Abstract
The collection consists of digital scans of 35mm slides taken by Greg Dimmitt and David Thompson. These photographs document various river trips on the Colorado and San Juan Rivers in which Mr. Dimmitt and Mr. Thompson participated. The original 35mm slides from which these digital scans were made were returned to the donors after the scanning was completed in April 2002. It should be noted that the slides are not in strict chronological or geographical order, although every effort has been made to see that they are in order. Descriptions and other information about individual images was provided by Mr. Dimmitt and Mr. Thompson in a series of meetings with Special Collections staff in 2002. When names are given for individuals, they are listed left-to-right. If a name was not known in a group photograph, the unknown individual will be listed as __?__. If the location of the photograph is known, that will also be given after the names of people. It should be noted that some of the location names are unique to these groups and may not reflect names used on USGS maps or those used by other groups., The slides are not in strict chronological or geographical order, although every effort has been made to see that they are in order.; Colorado and San Juan River trips; Glen Canyon; Glen Canyon, San Juan River; Glen Canyon, San Juan River; Glen Canyon, San Juan River, Glen Canyon Dam Construction; Colorado River above Moab, Utah; Aerial views of Escalante River canyon; Miscellaneous; 1 Walt Scott and wife; 2 Larry Braby, Eula Braby; 3 Mona Dimmitt, Eula Braby; 4 David Thompson, Jeanne Thompson; 5 Steven Brown, __?__, Clark Smith, Reynold Brown. - Abstract
Since its national debut in 1987, Fresh Air with Terry Gross has been a highly acclaimed and much adored weekday magazine among public radio listeners. Each week, nearly 4.8 million people turn to Peabody Award-winning host Terry Gross for insightful conversations with the leading voices in contemporary arts and issues. The renowned program reaches a global audience, with over 620 public radio stations broadcasting Fresh Air, and 3 million podcast downloads each week. Fresh Air has broken the mold of 'talk show' by weaving together superior journalism and intimate storytelling from modern-day intellectuals, politicians and artists alike. Through probing questions and careful research, Gross's interviews are lauded for revealing a fresh perspective on cultural icons and trends. Her thorough conversations are often complemented by commentary from well-known contributors. Fresh Air is produced at WHYY-FM in Philadelphia and broadcast nationally by NPR., (1.) Best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Lonesome Dove, Larry McMurtry wrote more than 30 books and screenplays, many set in the West. He died on March 25. Originally broadcast in 1995. (2.) Christopher Meloni spent 12 seasons on Law & Order: SVU before leaving the show in 2011. Now he's returning to the franchise, starring in Law & Order: Organized Crime. Originally broadcast April 2019. (3.) G. Gordon Liddy, who died March 30, was convicted in 1973 for his role in the conspiracy to burglarize and bug the Democratic Party's headquarters at the Watergate office complex. Originally broadcast in 1980.
