13. Ratings of Usability of Didactic Models: A Comparative Case Study in Croatia and Germany

Abstract

The study refers to the unfavourable reputation and status of general didactics as well as its decreasing importance in teacher education. This is a result of poor performance achieved in international tests by students. They score low on knowledge and arguments, and empirical studies indicate that didactic models are useless. In view of the above problem, the aim of this article is to examine the validity of the argument that didactic models are useless. It is necessary to examine if general didactics are being in an unfavourable position along with its possible successors in the international context. In order to achieve that, we conducted an empirical study into the usability of didactic models for lesson planning in Croatia and compared it with the results obtained in previous research in Germany. The term "usability" means the advantages of theory in practice. On the basis of the results of the empirical study, we concluded that didactic models are not generally unusable. Additionally, they are different according to their usability. These results open a path for further research on this topic in the international context.

Abstract

We have prepared the newly discovered Fe-based superconducting material $\rm LaO_{1-x}F_xFeAs$ ($0\leq x\leq 0.2$) in polycrystalline form and have investigated the samples by means of structural, thermodynamic and transport measurements. Our investigations reveal a non superconducting phase at $0\leq x\lesssim0.04$ which for $x=0$ is characterized by a structural transition towards an orthorhombic distortion at $T_s\approx 160$ K and antiferromagnetic spin order at $T_N\approx138$ K. Both transitions lead to strong anomalies in various transport properties as well as in magnetization and in specific heat. Remarkably, the transition temperatures are only weakly doping dependent up $x\lesssim 0.04$. However, the transitions are abruptly suppressed at $x\geq0.05$ in favour of a superconducting phase with a critical temperature $T_c\gtrsim 20$ K. Upon further increasing the F-doping $T_c$ increases up to a maximum of $T_c=26.8$ K at $x=0.1$ which is followed by a decrease down to $T_c\approx10$ K at $x\geq0.15$.

Abstract

Vor rund einem halben Jahr, im April 2022, veröffentlichten Schweizer Forscher der Eidgenössischen Technische Hochschule Lausanne im Magazin „Science Robotics“1 eine Studie, die beschreibt, welche Berufsbilder von der Digitalisierung und dem Einsatz Künstlicher Intelligenz besonders bedroht sind. Die Untersuchung analysiert auf Basis von rund 1.000 Berufsbildern des amerikanischen Arbeitsministeriums die Gefahr, perspektivisch durch Roboter oder den Einsatz Künstlicher Intelligenz ersetzt zu werden. Dazu haben die Wissenschaftler einen Automatisierungs-Risiko-Index errechnet, der untersucht, welche Fähigkeiten für den jeweiligen Job nötig sind und welche auch Maschinen ausführen können. Schlachter und Fleischverpacker haben demnach das größte Risiko, von Robotern ersetzt zu werden, rund 78 Prozent der für die Ausübung der Tätigkeit notwendigen Fähigkeiten haben die Maschinen bereits heute. Am anderen, vermeintlich sicheren Ende der Skala finden sich die Physiker mit einem Automatisierungs-Index von 48 Prozent. Das heißt aber im Umkehrschluss: Fast die Hälfte der Fähigkeiten werden ebenfalls bereits heute von Maschinen erreicht.

Abstract

Background/Aim: Vascular malformations are congenital abnormalities that result from disturbances in the embryologic development of the vascular system. A retrospective study at a single institution was performed to determine the localization and treatment patterns for vascular malformations in children. Patients and Methods: A total of 198 pediatric patients were identified. Age at diagnosis and presentation, sex, localization, diagnostics, and therapy were described. Results: The most common diagnosis was lymphatic malformation (LM, 58.6%), followed by venous (VM, 31.8%) and arteriovenous malformation (AVM, 4.5%). The mean age at diagnosis was 2.2 years, while the mean age at presentation at our hospital was 7.2 years. The sex ratio showed a female predominance (1.44:1), which was most evident in children with AVM. The neck, cheek/parotid gland and oral cavity were the most predominant locations. Half of the patients required at least one intervention at our hospital. Especially, CM and LM were managed by watch-and wait, whereas lymphovenous malformation (LVM) and AVM were most often treated. Treatment differed between the various malformation types, the most common used treatment was conventional surgery followed by laser therapy. In case of treatment, the average number of procedures in our hospital was 1.58 for VM, 1.53 for LM, 1.33 for AVM, and 1.0 for LVM. Conclusion: In children with vascular malformations interventional treatment is often necessary, in many cases more than one treatment step is needed.
