This study investigates the long-term performance of laboratory dam concrete in different curing environments over ten years and the microstructure of 17-year-old laboratory concrete and actual concrete cores drilled from the Three Gorges Dam. The mechanical properties of the laboratory dam concrete, whether cured in natural or standard environments, continued to improve over time. Furthermore, the laboratory dam concrete exhibited good resistance to diffusion and a refined microstructure after 17 years. However, curing and long-term exposure to the local natural environment reduced the frost resistance. Microstructural analyses of the laboratory concrete samples demonstrated that moderate-heat cement and fine fly ash (FA) particles were almost fully hydrated to form compact microstructures consisting of large quantities of homogeneous calcium (alumino)silicate hydrate (C-(A)-S-H) gels and a few crystals. No obvious interfacial transition zones were observed in the microstructure owing to the long-term pozzolanic reaction. This dense and homogenous microstructure was the crucial reason for the excellent long-term performance of the dam concrete. A high FA volume also played a significant role in the microstructural densification and performance growth of dam concrete at a later age. The concrete drilled from the dam surface exhibited a loose microstructure with higher microporosity, indicating that concrete directly exposed to the actual service environment suffered degradation caused by water and wind attacks. In this study, both macro-performance and microstructural analyses revealed that the application of moderate-heat cement and FA resulted in a dense and homogenous microstructure, which ensured the excellent long-term performance of concrete from the Three Gorges Dam after 17 years. Long-term exposure to an actual service environment may lead to microstructural degradation of the concrete surface. Therefore, the retained long-term dam concrete samples need to be further researched to better understand its microstructural evolution and development of its properties.

This research develops an elastoplastic damage constitutive model incorporating the strain softening response of common engineering soil materials in southeastern Xizang to evaluate and optimize reinforcement solutions for highway-traversing landslide accumulations. Grounded in deterioration mechanics theory, the model characterizes the progressive strength loss and failure evolution of the soils. Verified and calibrated, it is numerically implemented in FLAC3D to simulate the stability conditions of a landslide affecting planned highway infrastructure in southeastern Xizang. Safety factors of 1.25, 1.07, and 1.02 under normal operation, rainfall, and seismic excitation loads, respectively, reveal the inadequacy of intrinsic stability. Consequently, dynamic compaction and chemical grouting techniques are assessed via simulation. An optimal strategy, entailing 6-m-deep densification at the highway location with 10% silica fume enhancement of 66.3% of the landslide area and 50.8% of the soil-bedrock interface, results in safety factors of 1.70, 1.49, and 1.23 for the three scenarios. The improved area is minimized to streamline construction practicality and economics while preserving geotechnical integrity. The integrated modeling outcomes demonstrate the model's capability in capturing localized incremental damage and the efficacy of numerical simulation for stability diagnosis and targeted remediation of intricate landslides. Advancements in constitutive relations development are vital for further innovation in geohazard evaluation and infrastructure safety assurance.

Virus-like particles (VLPs) are non-infectious and serve as promising vaccine platforms because they mimic the membrane-embedded conformations of fusion glycoproteins on native viruses. Here, we employed SARS-CoV-2 VLPs (SMEN) presenting ancestral, Beta, or Omicron spikes to identify the variant spike that elicits potent and cross-protective immune responses in the highly sensitive K18-hACE2 challenge mouse model. A combined intranasal and intramuscular SMEN vaccine regimen generated the most effective immune responses to significantly reduce disease burden. Protection was primarily mediated by antibodies, with minor but distinct contributions from T cells in reducing virus spread and inflammation. Immunization with SMEN carrying ancestral spike resulted in 100, 75, or 0% protection against ancestral, Delta, or Beta variant-induced mortality, respectively. However, SMEN with an Omicron spike provided only limited protection against ancestral (50%), Delta (0%), and Beta (25%) challenges. By contrast, SMEN with Beta spikes offered 100% protection against the variants used in this study. Thus, the Beta variant not only overcame the immunity produced by other variants, but the Beta spike also elicited diverse and effective humoral immune responses. Our findings suggest that leveraging the Beta variant spike protein can enhance SARS-CoV-2 immunity, potentially leading to a more comprehensive vaccine against emerging variants.

Succinic acid (SA), one of the 12 top platform chemicals produced from biomass, is a precursor of various high value-added derivatives. Specially, 1 mol CO2 is assimilated in 1 mol SA biosynthetic route under anaerobic conditions, which helps to achieve carbon reduction goals. In this review, methods for enhanced CO2 fixation in SA production and utilization of waste biomass for SA production are reviewed. Bioelectrochemical and bioreactor coupling systems constructed with off-gas reutilization to capture CO2 more efficiently were highlighted. In addition, the techno-economic analysis and carbon sequestration benefits for the synthesis of bio-based SA from CO2 and waste biomass are analyzed. Finally, a droplet microfluidics-based high-throughput screening technique applied to the future bioproduction of SA is proposed as a promising approach.

The formation of polylactide stereocomplex (sc-PLA), involving the blending of poly(L-lactide) (PLLA) and poly(D-lactide) (PDLA), enhances PLA materials by making them stronger and more heat-resistant. This study investigated the competitive crystallization behavior of homocrystals (HCs) and stereocomplex crystals (SCs) in a 50/50 PLLA/PDLA blend with added polyethylene glycol (PEG). PEG, with molecular weights of 400 g/mol and 35,000 g/mol, was incorporated at concentrations ranging from 5% to 20% by weight. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis revealed that PEG increased the crystallization temperature, promoted SC formation, and inhibited HC formation. PEG also acted as a plasticizer, lowering both melting and crystallization temperatures. The second heating DSC curve showed that the pure PLLA/PDLA blend had a 57.1% fraction of SC while adding 5% PEG with a molecular weight of 400 g/mol resulted in complete SC formation. In contrast, PEG with a molecular weight of 35,000 g/mol was less effective, allowing some HC formation. Additionally, PEG consistently promoted SC formation across various cooling rates (2, 5, 10, or 20 °C/min), demonstrating a robust influence under different conditions.

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are a class of hazardous gases that are widely present in the atmosphere and cause great harm to human health. In this paper, a ratiometric fluorescent probe (Dye@Eu-MOFs) based on a dye-functionalized metal–organic framework was designed to detect VOCs, which showed high sensitivity and specificity for acetaldehyde solution and vapor. A linear correlation between the integrated fluorescence intensity (I510/I616) and the concentration of acetaldehyde was investigated, enabling a quantitative analysis of acetaldehyde in the ranges of 1 × 10−4~10−5 μL/mL, with a low detection limit of 8.12 × 10−4 mg/L. The selective recognition of acetaldehyde could be clearly distinguished by the naked eye under the excitation of UV light. The potential sensing mechanism was also discussed. Significantly, a molecular logic gate was constructed based on the whole system, and finally, a molecular logic network system for acetaldehyde detection connecting basic and integrated logic operations was realized. This strategy provided an effective guiding method for constructing a molecular-level logic gate for acetaldehyde detection on a simple platform.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is one of the most common neurodegenerative diseases. Research has recently found that both animal models and patients with PD have circadian dysfunction, accompanied by abnormal expression of circadian genes and proteins, which implies that the circadian clock plays a crucial role in PD etiopathogenesis. In addition, a strong relationship between NLRP3 inflammasome signaling and PD has been observed. Meanwhile, the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome is highly relevant to dysfunctions of the molecular clock. Therefore, alleviating the neuroinflammation caused by NLRP3 inflammasome signaling by adjusting the abnormal molecular clock may be a potential strategy for preventing and treating PD. In this article, we have reviewed the potential or direct relationship between abnormalities of the circadian clock and NLRP3 inflammasome signaling in PD.

This study addresses the critical question of how Xenon radiation, simulating natural solar radiation, affects the compositional, structural, and mechanical properties of cement paste. This aim is to understand the micro-to macro-scale changes in cement paste subjected to such radiation, a key concern for the durability of construction materials in solar-intensive environments. Employing a comprehensive suite of analytical techniques, including XRD, TG, 29Si NMR, 1H NMR, CT, SEM, and Vickers hardness testing, we systematically analyze the changes in phase composition, bound water content, silicate chain length in C–S–H, microstructure, and micro-mechanical behavior before and after radiation exposure. Our research uncovers a substantial decomposition of ettringite and a discernible reduction in the bound water content within the cement paste post-radiation exposure. Crucially, we detected a significant elongation in the C–S–H chain length, with a peak increase observed at 6%. This elongation is coupled with an increase in pore coarseness and a proliferation of internal defects. These alterations collectively lead to a marked decrease in the material's mechanical strengths: we noted a reduction in flexural strength by up to 18% and in compressive strength by as much as 25% at the macroscopic level. This research thus provides essential insights into the design and development of high-durability cementitious materials for solar radiation-intensive environments, contributing to the advancement of sustainable and resilient infrastructure.

ObjectiveTo explore the relationship between dietary antioxidant indices (DAI) and glaucoma using the data from the 2005 to 2008 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).MethodsOur study comprised participants who completed the NHANES dietary intake interview and visual health questionnaire at age 40 or older. The intakes of the vitamins A, C, and E as well as of zinc, selenium, and magnesium were used to generate the DAI, which represents the overall antioxidant qualities. The self-report method for glaucoma diagnosis (ever been told by an eye doctor) was used. Low-rank and sparse structures have been frequently exploited in matrix recovery and robust PCA problems. In this paper, we develop an alternating directional method and its variant equipped with the non-monotone search procedure for solving a non-convex optimization model of low-rank and sparse matrix recovery problems, where the concerned matrix with incomplete data is separable into a low-rank part and a sparse part. The main idea is to use the alternating minimization method for the low-rank matrix part, and to use the non-monotone line search technique for the sparse matrix part to iteratively update, respectively. To some extent, the non-monotone strategy relaxes the single-step descent into a multi-step descent and then greatly improves the performance of the alternating directional method. Theoretically, we prove the global convergence of the two proposed algorithms under some mild conditions. Finally, the comparison of numerical experiments shows that the alternate directional method with non-monotone technique is more effective than the original monotone method and the previous method. The efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed algorithms are demonstrated by solving some instances of random incomplete matrix recovery problems and some problems of the background modeling in video processing.

Abstract This paper presents a cement-content controlled method for quality assessment and quality control of the deep soil mixing (DSM) columns in slope reinforcement. The ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) titration method was modified and used for the cement content measurement of core samples, and the effects of curing conditions and curing period on the titration results were investigated. 35 DSM columns with different construction parameters were installed in the test section, and cement content and unconfined compression tests of field core samples were conducted. The relationship between the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and cement content of DSM columns was formulated, and the quality of DSM columns with different construction parameters was assessed. The test results suggested that the failure strength of the field cores was approximately 15–55% lower than that of laboratory samples with the same cement content. In single columns, the coefficient of variation (CV) of cement content had a negative correlation with the average failure strength and a positive correlation with the coefficient of variation of failure strength. Bidirectional mixing method, lower penetration and withdrawal velocity, more mixing blades and larger number of mixings could improve the uniformity of the DSM columns.

This paper provides a novel meta-heuristic optimization algorithm for solving continuous optimization problems efficiently in the field of numerical and engineering optimization: Piranha Foraging Optimization Algorithm (PFOA). The algorithm is inspired by the flexible and mobile foraging behavior of piranha swarm and divides their foraging behavior into three patterns: localized group attack, bloodthirsty cluster attack and scavenging foraging, simulates the above behaviors to construct two dynamic search processes for exploration and exploitation. PFOA uses three strategies of non-linear parameter control, population survival and reverse evasion search to enable populations to have better population diversity at different stages of the search and to help find better solutions. To gain insight into the performance of PFOA, visualization methods were used to assess the efficiency of PFOA optimization and to analyse the impact of the characteristics of the three foraging modes, the sensitivity of the parameters and the size of the piranha population on the algorithm. The algorithm performance was further tested with 27 CEC benchmark functions and four real engineering design optimization problems, and the results were compared with 13 well-known meta-heuristics. Test results based on statistical methods such as box-line plots, Wilcoxon rank sum test and Friedman test in multiple dimensions (30, 50, 100 and fixed dimensions) show significant differences compared to other algorithms and that the performance of the algorithm is stable and in significant improvement. The unique advantages of PFOA in terms of the equilibrium of convergence speed and exploration can avoid getting trapped in local optimum regions and effectively solve optimization problems in complex search spaces.

For formulate an effective maintenance scheme of submarine pipeline and effectively ensure the safe operation of submarine pipeline, a strength evaluation and reliability technology of energy pipeline based on Fuzzy depth learning network algorithm is proposed. Firstly, the influence factors of marine environment on submarine pipeline corrosion are described. Secondly, the reliability model of corroded submarine pipeline is established. Given the uncertainty of the relevant parameters of the corrosion defect, the equation of state of the corrosion protection pipe shall be determined on the basis of the corrosion pressure analysis of the corrosion protection pipe. A vague in-depth networking algorithm is used to calculate the probability of a rusty pipeline failure. The results show that the probability of corrosion of the pipeline increases rapidly over time. When the time is 22 years, the failure probability is 2 × 10−4. When the time is 30a, the failure probability is 3.1 × 10−3. The feasibility of fuzzy deep learning network algorithm is verified.

Plain language summary Ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized ovum implants outside the endometrium of the uterine cavity, which is a life-threatening occurrence and is an important cause of pregnancy-related mortality. With the increase in pelvic and intrauterine operations, the distribution of ectopic sites has been changing, but the variation has been insufficiently studied. To investigate the distribution of ectopic sites and its variation trend in depth, we collected the data of 3915 ectopic pregnancy cases from the third affiliated hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University. Through χ2 test for trend, the ratio of caesarean scar pregnancy to ectopic pregnancy showed an upward trend (P = 0.005). Electrochemical treatment, specified as electrochemical chloride extraction (ECE), is one of the common techniques developed for the rehabilitation of chloride-contaminated reinforced concrete. In practice, ECE is time-consuming; for instance, the treatment duration could last several weeks or even longer. In order to reduce the laboratory work, this paper presents some results about a numerical study of the ECE. It is to solve a series of physical equations governing multiple ionic transport making use of a finite difference method. The effects of some critical factors are discussed in detail, such as the treatment duration, the current density and the cover thickness. In addition, for the sake of validation, the numerical results are also compared with those obtained from an experimental test.

Abstract Background This study is aimed to assess the association between asthma and cataract in a representative sample in the United States. Methods The National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) is the principal source of information on the health of the civilian noninstitutionalized population of the United States. Ten years (2010-2019) of NHIS were analyzed in this study. Asthma and cataract status were collected from relevant questionnaires among participants aged 40 years and older. Multivariate regression analyses were applied to explore the association between asthma and cataract. Abstract Cell mechanics is closely associated with cellular structure and function. However, the inability to measure both cellular force and viscoelasticity of statistically significant number of cells noninvasively remains a challenge for quantitative characterizations of various cellular functions and practical applications. Here a double resonator piezoelectric cytometry (DRPC), using AT and BT cut quartz crystals of the same frequency and surface morphology is developed to simultaneously quantify the cells‐generated forces (ΔS) and viscoelastic moduli (G′, G″) of a population of isolated single cells or cells with different degrees of cell‐cell interactions in a non‐invasive and real time manner. DRPC captures the dynamic mechanical parameters ΔS and G′, G″ during the adhesions of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) under different ligand densities of adhesion molecules fibronectin or Arg‐Gly‐Asp (RGD) modified on the gold surfaces of 9 MHz AT and BT cut quartz crystals, and different seeding densities of HUVECs. It is found that both the ligand density and cell seeding density affect the magnitudes of ΔS and G′, G″ and their correlations are revealed for the first time by DRPC. The validity of DRPC is further verified by mechanical changes of the cells in response to treatments with cytoskeleton regulators.

The content of effective components of natural products is small, generally requiring to be extracted and purified using complex technology, and the detection method is both time-consuming and costly. Molecular imprinting technology is an effective means to prepare highly selective media. Molecularly imprinted polymers have the advantages of strong selectivity, simple preparation, reusability and have shown a good prospect in the separation and detection of various natural products. Based on the types of active ingredients of natural products, this paper reviews the separation and detection of natural products via molecular imprinting technology in recent years, and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of molecular imprinting technology, in order to provide reference for the subsequent application of molecular imprinting technology.

L-Cysteine is a widely used unique sulfur-containing amino acid with wide application in the food, pharmaceutical, and agricultural industries. This paper concludes the advantages and disadvantages of chemical hydrolysis, enzymatic biotransformation, and fermentation for the synthesis of L-cysteine. Meanwhile, a detailed introduction is given to the biosynthesis of L-cysteine, metabolic engineering strategies, and the latest progress in reported L-cysteine fermentation bacteria. Finally, insights are provided on the development direction of increasing the production of biosynthetic L-cysteine in the future. This review provides ideas for the future development of more efficient L-cysteine biosynthetic pathways.

Low-heat Portland (LHP) cement is a kind of high-belite cement, which has the characteristic of low hydration heat. Currently, it is extensively used in the temperature control of mass concrete. Based on the thermodynamic database of OPC-based materials, the thermodynamic software GEM-Selektor (noted as GEMS) is used for simulating the hydration products of the LHP cement paste. Then, according to the GEMS thermodynamic simulation results, MATLAB is used to visualize the initial and ultimate stages of LHP cement pastes; the effects of curing temperature and water to cement (w/c) ratio on hydration products are addressed; and the porosity, fractal dimension, and tortuosity of different pastes are calculated. It is found that an appropriately high curing temperature is important for reducing porosity, especially in the early hydration stage. Hydration time also has a significant impact on the hydration of LHP cement paste; long hydration time may reduce the impact of temperature on hydration products. The w/c ratio is another important consideration regarding the hydration degree and porosity of LHP paste, and under different curing temperatures, hydration times, and w/c ratios, the porosity varies from 5.91–32.91%. The fractal dimension of this work agrees with the previous findings. From tortuosity analysis, it can be concluded that the high curing temperature may cause significant tortuosity, further affecting the effective diffusivity of LHP cement paste. For cement pastes with low w/c ratio, this high curing temperature effect is mainly reflected in the early hydration stage, for ones with high w/c ratio, it is in turn evident under long-term curing.

In this study, a red-green dual-emitting fluorescent composite (RhB@MOFs) was constructed by introducing the red-emitting organic fluorescent dye rhodamine B (RhB) into metal-organic frameworks (Tb-MOFs). The sample can be used as a ratiometric fluorescent probe, which not only avoids errors caused by instrument and environmental instability but also has multiple applications in detection. The results indicated that the RhB@MOFs exhibited a turned-off response toward Fe3+ and a turned-on response for the continuous detection of ascorbic acid (AA). This ratiometric fluorescent probe possessed high sensitivity and excellent selectivity in the continuous determination of Fe3+ and AA. It is worth mentioning that remarkable fluorescence change could be clearly observed by the naked eye under a UV lamp, which is more convenient in applications. In addition, the mechanisms of Fe3+- and AA-induced fluorescence quench and recovery are discussed in detail. This ratiometric probe displayed outstanding recognition of heavy metal ions and biomolecules, providing potential applications for water quality monitoring and biomolecule determination.

Abstract Axonal projection conveys neural information. The divergent and diverse projections of individual neurons imply the complexity of information flow. It is necessary to investigate the relationship between the projection and functional information at the single neuron level for understanding the rules of neural circuit assembly, but a gap remains due to a lack of methods to map the function to whole‐brain projection. Here an approach is developed to bridge two‐photon calcium imaging in vivo with high‐resolution whole‐brain imaging based on sparse labeling with the genetically encoded calcium indicator GCaMP6. Reliable whole‐brain projections are captured by the high‐definition fluorescent micro‐optical sectioning tomography (HD‐fMOST). A cross‐modality cell matching is performed and the functional annotation of whole‐brain projection at the single‐neuron level (FAWPS) is obtained. Applying it to the layer 2/3 (L2/3) neurons in mouse visual cortex, the relationship is investigated between functional preferences and axonal projection features. The functional preference of projection motifs and the correlation between axonal length in MOs and neuronal orientation selectivity, suggest that projection motif‐defined neurons form a functionally specific information flow, and the projection strength in specific targets relates to the information clarity. This pipeline provides a new way to understand the principle of neuronal information transmission.

For orchard plant protection, conventional large machines and small sprayers are practically restricted by either narrow planting intervals with dense leaves or their inadequate penetration power, which leads to an unsatisfactory effect of spray. This paper proposes a stereoscopic plant-protection strategy that integrates unmanned air and ground sprayers to spray different parts of canopies to improve uniformity. In order to verify the proposal, a stereoscopic plant-protection system (SPS) was developed, consisting of a small swing-arm sprayer and a T16 plant-protection Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). Then, optimal operation parameters were determined by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and orthogonal experiments, and the uniformity was finally quantified by trials. CFD and orthogonal experiments showed that a swing-arm angle of 60° and a forward speed of 0.4 m/s were optimal for the ground sprayer, whilst a height of 2.0 m from the top of canopies and a forward speed of 1.0 m/s were appropriate for the UAV. The trial results showed that the density of vertical droplet deposition varied from 90 to 107 deposits/cm2 in canopies, and the uniformity was 38.3% higher than conventional approaches. The uniformity of top, bottom, inside and outside canopies was significantly improved. Meanwhile, the density of droplet deposition on both sides of leaves in all test points exceeded 25 deposits/cm2, able to meet the standard of spray. This study provides a practical approach for uniform pesticide spray to large-canopy fruit trees. Moreover, the high flexibility of plant-protection UAVs and the significant trafficability of small swing-arm sprayers can solve the problem of large machine entering and leaving orchards.

In the area of air-assisted spray, conventional detection of speed and direction of the wind fields for spray are separately conducted, and multiple kinds of sensors have to be laid on each coordinate axis during multidimensional detection. It limits the optimization of operation effect of sprayers based on wind-field distribution characteristics. This paper proposes a novel detection method to achieve synchronous measurement of wind speed and direction in three dimensions. Wind flow was considered as vectors and the sensing structure with a regular triangular pyramid shape supported by cantilever pieces was established. Strain gauges were utilized to detect the deformation in each direction by the wind thrust onto a ball before and after wind flow. Moreover, the calculation models of wind speed and direction were developed respectively based on the relationship of ‘strains-force-wind pressure-wind velocity’ and the principle of space operation of vectors, so multiple parameters of wind fields could be obtained simultaneously. Calibration was conducted based on a wind tunnel and the Testo 405i anemometers. The results showed that: the minimum relative error of wind-speed values was about 0.06%, while the maximum was about 10%. The average relative error of all the directions was less than 5%. Furthermore, the measurement of the wind among artificial tree canopies demonstrated that the proposed method could effectively measure both speed value and direction of the wind among canopies, and it also helped to find the wind distribution characteristics of the fan, SFG4-2R. The results highlighted both the reliability and the practical meaning of the proposed method, which could be a technical solution for measuring and evaluating wind-field characteristics of sprayers.

A novel fluorescent probe (C460@Tb-MOFs) was designed and synthesized by encapsulating the fluorescent dye 7-diethylamino-4-methyl coumarin (C460) into a terbium-based metal–organic framework using a simple ultrasonic impregnation method. It is impressive that this dye-modified metal–organic framework can specifically detect styrene and temperature upon luminescence quenching. The sensing platform of this material exhibits great selectivity, fast response, and good cyclability toward styrene detection. It is worth mentioning that the sensing process undergoes a distinct color change from blue to colorless, providing conditions for the accurate visual detection of styrene liquid and gas. The significant fluorescence quenching mechanism of styrene toward C460@Tb-MOFs is explored in detail. Moreover, the dye-modified metal–organic framework can also achieve temperature sensing from 298 to 498 K with high relative sensitivity at 498 K. The preparation of functionalized MOF composites with fluorescent dyes provides an effective strategy for the construction of sensors for multifunctional applications.

Abstract Background Conjunctival autograft transplantation from superior conjunctiva is often chosen to lower the postoperative recurrence rate for pterygium treatment. However, inferior conjunctival autograft (ICA) might be taken as an alternative surgery method, especially under certain conditions. Consequently, we designed this research to estimate and contrast the result of inferior conjunctival autograft and superior conjunctival autograft (SCA) on the postoperative recurrence rate. Methods We searched through network database (PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials) to choose suitable randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Based on Cochrane review methods, we evaluated eligibility and risk of bias of included studies. The primary measures included postoperative recurrence rate. Pooled risk ratios (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were assessed. RevMan 5.3 software was utilized to conduct statistical analysis. Results Four RCTs composed of a total of 438 eyes were included in this meta-analysis, with 234 eyes in the inferior conjunctival autograft group and 204 eyes in the superior conjunctival autograft group. Statistical meta-analysis revealed that the postoperative recurrence rate was similar between the two groups (RR = 0.77, 95% CI: 0.36 to 1.62, P = 0.49). Only two RCTs applied the postoperative pain scale and one of them did not provided adequate numbers. Conclusions Our meta-analysis indicated that inferior autograft transplantation and superior autograft transplantation had a similar effect on postoperative recurrence rate. The inferior autograft group might have a less postoperative pain. Subsequent RCTs which have more patients participated and more outcomes are needed to confirm our conclusions in years to come.

In this study, a double resonator piezoelectric cytometry (DRPC) technology based on quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) was first employed to identify HeLa cell pyroptosis and apoptosis by monitoring cells’ mechanical properties in a real-time and non-invasive manner. AT and BT cut quartz crystals with the same frequency and surface conditions were used concurrently to quantify the cells-exerted surface stress (ΔS). It is the first time that cells-exerted surface stress (ΔS) and cell viscoelasticity have been monitored simultaneously during pyroptosis and apoptosis. The results showed that HeLa pyroptotic cells exerted a tensile stress on quartz crystal along with an increase in the elastic modulus (G′), viscous modulus (G″), and a decrease of the loss tangent (G″/G′), whereas apoptotic cells exerted increasing compressive stress on quartz crystal along with a decrease in G′, G″ and an increase in G″/G′. Furthermore, engineered GSDMD−/−-DEVD- HeLa cells were used to investigate drug-induced disturbance and testify the mechanical responses during the processes of pyroptosis and non-pyroptosis. These findings demonstrated that the DRPC technology can serve as a precise cytomechanical sensor capable of identifying pyroptosis and apoptosis, providing a novel method in cell death detection and paving the road for pyroptosis and apoptosis related drug evaluation and screening.

This paper is concerned with an analysis of the electrical conductivity of graphene/cement composites by means of DC (direct current) and AC (alternating current) techniques. Moreover, the micrograph and element composition of composites have been characterized through SEM (scanning electron microscopy) and EDS (energy-dispersive spectrometers) techniques, respectively. Results revealed that a percolation transition region Φ2–Φ1 (Φ2 and Φ1 values are determined as 0.8% and 1.8%, respectively) can be observed in the S-shaped curve. In addition, the logistic model has been recommended to characterize the relationship between the conductivity and the graphene concentration, which ranged from 0.001% to 2.5%. The micrographs obtained by SEM technique clearly indicate a complete conductive network as well as agglomeration of graphene slices when the graphene content reaches the threshold value. Furthermore, graphene slices can be distinguished from the cement hydration products by means of the analysis of element composition obtained through the EDS technique. It is promising to apply the graphene/cement composites as intelligent materials.

The analysis and research techniques of this article are based on the professional data of power plant industrial instrumentation. This paper presents an overview of various analysis methods of instrument data, and in-depth analysis of time correlation and coverage analysis, outlier analysis, etc. We give the statistical analysis process of drift data, focusing on the process of the AFAL method; We also described the drift algorithm of random behavior and deviation behavior and explored and discussed the analysis tools and data analysis results of the power plant industry professional data. We have designed a set of application systems for instrument data import, export, storage, and analysis, which can store instrument calibration data onto a Hadoop database in a prescribed format. Which provides great reference values for the calibration of instrument data. Finally, it looks forward to the analysis and research direction and development trend of industrial big data.

Micro smart sensors and sensor networks are the key bases for building a fully visible, perceptible and controllable transparent substation in power grid. However, the massive deployment of micro smart sensors often leads to network congestion and directly affects the quality of information transmission. In practice, control design for micro sensor networks is often disturbed by factors such as nonlinearity, time delay and time-varying parameters, and the mathematical model is inaccurate. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a Koopman operator based data-driven congestion control scheme without using any system model information, based on model predictive control (MPC) and extended state observer (ESO). Firstly, according to the Koopman operator theory, a data-driven linear Koopman model for micro smart sensor networks is derived, only using the input/output data. Then an ESO based MPC scheme is designed to obtain the optimal packet dropping probability in the micro smart sensor node buffer area. Specifically, ESO performs real-time online estimation of the modeling errors, such as time-varying parameters, time delay and the external disturbances. Then the estimated modeling errors are viewed as total disturbances and are compensated in MPC, so that the queue length in the node buffer can quickly stabilize at the set value. Extensive simulations are conducted to verify the accuracy of Koopman model, and the effectiveness of the proposed control system design.

Echinacoside (ECH), the major active constituent of Cistanche deserticola, was found to exert neuroprotection through neurotrophic and anti-inflammatory functions in Parkinson’s disease (PD) models. However, a clear intermediate molecule or pathway that unifies these two effects has to be found. In this study, our results demonstrate that ECH can protect DA neurons in PD mice with Western blot and immunohistochemistry staining. The quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was adapted to confirm its anti-inflammatory function with decreased cytokines (interleukin- (IL-) 6, IL-1β, and TNF-α) in PD mice and LPS-induced BV2 cells. Further studies found that ECH inhibited the IL-6/JAK2/STAT3 pathway and decreased phosphorylation of STAT3 on tyr705 by Western blot. It can also increase p-STAT3 (ser727) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) expression in PD mice and LPS-induced BV2 cells. This study revealed that ECH exerts neurotrophic and anti-inflammatory effects by regulating the IL-6/JAK2/STAT3 pathway and the phosphorylation of STAT3, promoting the mutually beneficial influence of the two effects to maximize its neuroprotective function.

The online banking transaction system is the application system with the most complex business, the most demanded, and frequent version updates in the software engineering application system. The existing online banking business sub-module is intelligent and faces major challenges in security. Traditional online banking systems cannot meet this capability. This article combines machine learning and online banking business module design to implement a business agent online banking system based on a new architecture. The article first proposes new features and new challenges of the online banking system, discusses the technical problems solved by the intelligent online banking system, and analyzes HERCULES Architecture business intelligent machine learning algorithm model, smart deposits and white-collar loans and other core processes, and then designed and implemented an intelligent online banking system business model, focusing on the issues of the intelligent online banking system, soft load balancing implementation and transaction security, through business implementation The effectiveness of the proposed business agent is verified. The actual use results show that the intelligent online banking of the HERCULES architecture has greatly improved the intelligence and security of the traditional online banking system. Finally, we summarize and analyze the value and innovation of the intelligent online banking system, and look forward to the shortcomings of the system.

Air-assisted sprayers are widely employed in orchards, but inappropriate spray parameters can lead to large droplet losses, pesticide waste, and environmental pollution. To investigate the factors affecting the droplet loss of an air-assisted sprayer behind canopies, a two-factor, five-level full experiment was conducted in an actual orchard, where the two factors were the power gradient and foliage area volume density (FAVD). In addition, the location of the sampling point was also considered in the data analysis, including horizontal distance, forward distance, and height. The results show that all factors significantly affected droplet coverage (p-value < 0.01). The droplet coverage showed an increase and then a decrease with an increasing power gradient, and the maximum coverage was measured at power gradient P3 (forward speed: 0.49 m/s, spray pressure: 0.30 MPa, and spray flow rate: 7.13 L/min) or P4 (forward speed: 0.58 m/s, spray pressure: 0.35 MPa, and spray flow rate: 8.44 L/min). The effect of FAVD on droplet coverage had obvious regularity, and this regularity did not change with the power gradient. At different positions behind canopies, the droplet coverage had great differences. The droplet coverage gradually decreases with increasing horizontal distance and height, while increasing with forward distance. This study provides a reference for the air-assisted sprayers to reduce droplet loss, and data support for subsequent research on precision spraying based on FAVD.

RSK1, a downstream kinase of the MAPK pathway, has been shown to regulate multiple cellular processes and is essential for lytic replication of a variety of viruses, including Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV). Besides phosphorylation, it is not known whether other post-translational modifications play an important role in regulating RSK1 function. We demonstrate that RSK1 undergoes robust SUMOylation during KSHV lytic replication at lysine residues K110, K335, and K421. SUMO modification does not alter RSK1 activation and kinase activity upon KSHV ORF45 co-expression, but affects RSK1 downstream substrate phosphorylation. Compared to wild-type RSK1, the overall phosphorylation level of RxRxxS*/T* motif is significantly declined in RSK1K110/335/421R expressing cells. Specifically, SUMOylation deficient RSK1 cannot efficiently phosphorylate eIF4B. Sequence analysis showed that eIF4B has one SUMO-interacting motif (SIM) between the amino acid position 166 and 170 (166IRVDV170), which mediates the association between eIF4B and RSK1 through SUMO-SIM interaction. These results indicate that SUMOylation regulates the phosphorylation of RSK1 downstream substrates, which is required for efficient KSHV lytic replication.

To improve the stability of sand slopes in Southeast Tibet, the wet–dry cycle test, immersion test, and permeability test were carried out using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as the improving material. The improvement effect was evaluated by considering the unconfined compressive strength. The results have revealed that the unconfined compressive strength of the improved soil significantly increased with the PVA content, while the degradation of the improved soil by wet–dry cycling and water immersion weakened. However, the permeability of the improved soil slightly decreased compared with that of unmodified soil. Through scanning electron microscopy (SEM), it was found that PVA only forms an elastic network structure in the sand to wind and connect the soil particles, but pores remain in the sand. This indicates that the addition of PVA does not affect the permeability to a great extent but greatly increases the strength. The findings of this study provide a useful reference for the practical application of PVA.

To investigate an environmentally benign stabilizer for coarse-grained soil in southeast Tibet, poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and silica fume were used to improve the geotechnical properties of coarse-grained soil. Unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and wet–dry cycle tests were conducted on prepared samples to evaluate the effect of the additive content and curing age on the strength and durability of coarse-grained soil. The results reveal that the UCS of the samples increased with the additive content of PVA solution and the curing age. The optimal value for the additive content of PVA solution and the curing age is 12% and 7 days, respectively. With the optimal PVA solution content, the PVA solution combined with silica fume stabilizer exhibited better reinforcement compared with pristine PVA. The UCS of the samples stabilized by PVA solution and silica fume increased depending on the curing age, and plateaued after 14 days. Samples with 12% PVA solution and 6% silica fume achieved a satisfactory UCS of 1543.17 kPa after curing for 28 days. As the number of wet–dry cycles increased, the UCS of the samples stabilized by the PVA solution and silica fume exhibited an upward trend during the first three wet–dry cycles, owing to the filling of pores by the gel produced by the silica fume, but began to decline as the number of wet–dry cycles increased. All samples retained a high UCS value after 10 wet-dry cycles compared with the samples that were not subjected to wet–dry cycles.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has impacted on the global economy since 2020. This paper employs regression models to investigate China's economy structure and sustainability of deep determinants, such as human capital, business environment. It finds that the central government like to adjust China's economy structure to mitigate the impact of crucial crisis to remain economic sustainability. Additionally, COVID-19 like SARS has no impact on Chinese economic sustainability, because this pandemic is unable to effect economic deep determinants in the short run. Human capital accumulation is the significant deep factors, and COVID-19 epidemic has no impact on these long-run factors during a short period. It suggests further human capital including labor quantity and education is currently the most significant determinants for China's economy sustainability, followed by the upgrading business environment. Laboratory freezing experiments were conducted to evaluate the effect of polyacrylamide (PAM) and lignocellulose on the mechanical properties and microstructural characteristics of Tibetan clay. Direct shear and unconfined compressive tests and field emission scanning electron microscopy analyses were performed on clay samples with different contents of stabilizers. The test results show that the addition of PAM can improve the unconfined compressive strength and cohesion of Tibetan clay, but an excessive amount of PAM reduces the internal friction angle. After several freeze-thaw cycles, the unconfined compressive strength and cohesion of samples stabilized by PAM decrease significantly, while the internal friction angle increases. Samples stabilized by PAM and lignocellulose have higher internal friction angles, cohesion, and unconfined compressive strength and can retain about 80% of the original strength after 10 freeze-thaw cycles. PAM fills the pores between soil particles and provides adhesion. The addition of lignocellulose can form a network, restrict the expansion of pores caused by freeze-thaw cycles, and improve the integrity of PAM colloids. It is postulated that the addition of a composite stabilizer with a PAM content of 0.4% and a lignocellulose content of 2% may be a technically feasible method to increase the strength of Tibetan clay.

Innate immunity is the first line of defense against invading pathogens and may mediate HIV-1 resistance in HIV-1–exposed seronegative (HESN) individuals. This study aims to identify components of innate immunity that confer natural HIV-1 resistance in Chinese HESN individuals. Specifically, we compared the expression levels of Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and associated pathway molecules in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), monocytes/macrophages, and plasma obtained from HESN and control individuals. HESN individuals had higher expression of TLR9, IRF7, IFN-α/β, RANTES, and MIP-1α/1β in PBMCs and plasma than control subjects. Upon TLR9 stimulation, significantly higher expression of TLR9 and IRF7, as well as higher production of IFN-α/β, RANTES, and MIP-1α/1β, was observed in PBMCs and monocytes/macrophages from HESN individuals than in the corresponding cells from control individuals. More importantly, both with and without TLR9 stimulation, the levels of HIV-1 replication in monocyte-derived macrophages (MDMs) from HESN individuals were significantly lower than those in MDMs from control individuals. These data suggest that increased TLR9 activity and subsequent release of antiviral factors contribute to protection against HIV-1 in HESN individuals.

Accurate daily precipitation prediction is crucially important. However, it is difficult to predict the precipitation accurately due to inherently complex meteorological factors and dynamic behavior of weather. Recently, considerable attention has been devoted in soft computing-based prediction approaches. This work presents a scheme to reduce the risk of Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) modeling error using Gene Expression Programming (GEP) to improve the prediction performance, and develops an ELM-GEP hybrid model for regional daily quantitative precipitation prediction. In this study, firstly, we use ELM for modeling the data sample of daily rainfall to construct a main model. Secondly, we use GEP for modeling the error of the main model as a compensation of the main model to reduce the prediction error. We conducted eight experiments of two different types of daily precipitation prediction problems using five metrics to evaluate our proposed model performance. Experimental results show that our model is comparable or even superior to five state-of-the-art models with high reliability in terms of all metrics on all datasets. It indicates that the proposed method is a promising alternative prediction tool for higher accuracy and credibility of regional daily precipitation prediction.

Abstract Background The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of pars plana glaucoma drainage device (PP GDD) with anterior chamber glaucoma drainage device (AC GDD) for the treatment of glaucoma. Methods We comprehensively searched three databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library databases, selecting the relevant studies. The continuous variables, namely, intraocular pressure (IOP) and glaucoma medications, were pooled by the weighted mean differences (WMDs), and the dichotomous outcomes, including corneal failure incidence and overall complications incidence, were pooled by the odds ratio (ORs). Results Four retrospective studies involving 275 eyes were evaluated, with 135 in the PP GDD group and 140 in the AC GDD group. The WMDs of the IOP reduction between the PP GDD group and the AC GDD group were − 1.01 mmHg (95% CI -4.05 to 2.03, p = 0.52). The WMDs of the glaucoma medications reduction between the PP GDD group and the AC GDD group were 0.23 (95% CI -0.11 to 0.56, p = 0.19). The pooled ORs comparing PP GDD group with AC GDD group were 1.01 (95% CI 0.03 to 40.76, p = 0.99) for corneal failure incidence and 1.19 (95% CI 0.68 to 2.09, p = 0.54) for overall complication incidence. There were no significant differences between PP GDD group and AC GDD group on these aspects. Conclusions Both PP GDD and AC GDD procedures had similar efficacy of reduction in the IOP and number of medications. They are also both comparable on the safety with similar incidence of corneal failure and overall complications.

Abstract Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of transepithelial corneal collagen crosslinking (transepithelial CXL) versus standard corneal collagen crosslinking (epithelium-off CXL) on keratoconus. Methods Eligible studies were identified by systematically searching PubMed, the Cochrane Library and Embase. Topographic parameters, corrected distant visual acuity (CDVA), uncorrected distant visual acuity (UDVA), and corneal thickness (CT) were assessed by the pooled weighted mean differences (WMDs) of the change from baseline to the end of follow up. Quality was assessed according to Cochrane handbook. And we used Review Manager to analysis the included trials. Results Three trials involving 244 eyes were evaluated, with 111 eyes in the standard CXL group and 133 eyes in the transepithelial CXL group. The pooled results showed that there were significant differences between the two groups in maximum keratometry (mean difference = 1.05D, 95% CI 0.19 to 1.92, P = 0.02)),and the standard CXL is more effective in decreasing the maximum keratometry at least 12 months after operation; the transepithelial CXL group gained more improvement in CDVA (mean difference = −0.07, 95% CI -0.12 to −0.02, P = 0.007);there were no significant differences in uncorrected distant visual acuity (UDVA) between the two groups (mean difference = −0.03, 95% CI -0.20 to 0.15, P = 0.75). A similar change was found in corneal thickness (mean difference = 4.35, 95% CI -0.43 to 9.13, P = 0.07)). Conclusions The standard CXL is more effective in decreasing the maximum keratometry than the transepithelial CXL; the transepithelial CXL provided favorable visual outcomes; they both exhibit similar safety.

Magnesium oxysulfate (MOS) cement is a typical eco-friendly cementitious material, which presents excellent performances. In this work, a novel multiscale modeling strategy is proposed to simulate the hydration and pore structure of MOS cement system. This work collected and evaluated the Gibbs free energy of formation for main hydrates and equilibrium constant of main reactions in MOS cement system based on a first principle calculation using Material Studio. Followingly, the equilibrium phase compositions of MOS cement system were simulated through PHREEQC to investigate the molar ratio dependence of equilibrium phase compositions. Results showed that large M (MgO/MgSO4) was beneficial for the formation of 5Mg(OH)2·MgSO4·7H2O (Phase 517) and large H (H2O/MgSO4) tended to decompose MOS cement paste and cause leaching. The microstructure-based method visualized the hydration status of MOS cement systems at initial and ultimate stages via MATLAB and the results showed that large M was significant to reduce porosity, and similar results for the case of small H. Fractal analysis confirms that fractal dimension of pore structure (Df) was significantly decreased after the hydration of MOS and was positively correlated to the porosity of the paste. In addition, it can be referred that large M and small H were beneficial for modifying the microstructure of MOS paste by decreasing the value of Df.

We demonstrate a polarization splitter rotator (PSR) based on multimode waveguide grating (MWG) on a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) platform. Bloch mode hybridization in mini-stopband is exploited to achieve high polarization conversion efficiency. The fabricated device yields a high extinction ratio of > 53 dB and > 31 dB, low crosstalk of < −26.4 dB and < −40 dB for the injected TE0 and TM0 mode, with average insertion loss of 1.2 dB and 1.5 dB in the wavelength regime 1552 nm–1562 nm. Such a device shows great design flexibility and an easy fabrication process, serving as a good candidate in integrated polarization diversity circuits, especially for applications requiring spectra manipulation. Additionally, the polarization conversion approach provides opportunities to develop novel polarization management devices.

Growing of Android malware，not only seriously endangered the security of the Android market，but also brings challenges for detection.A generation and extraction approach of automatic Android malware behavioral signatures was proposed based on HTTP traffic.Firstly，the behavioral signatures were extracted from the traffic traces generated by Android malware.Then，network behavioral characteristics were extracted from the generated network traffic.Finally，these behavioral signatures were used to detect Android malware.The experimental results show that the approach is able to extract Android malware network traffic behavioral signature with accuracy and efficiency.

Many important gram-negative bacterial pathogens use highly sophisticated type III protein secretion systems (T3SSs) to establish complex host-pathogen interactions. Bacterial-host cell contact triggers the activation of the T3SS and the subsequent insertion of a translocon pore into the target cell membrane, which serves as a conduit for the passage of effector proteins. Therefore the initial interaction between T3SS-bearing bacteria and host cells is the critical step in the deployment of the protein secretion machine, yet this process remains poorly understood. Here, we use high-throughput cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) to visualize the T3SS-mediated Salmonella-host cell interface. Our analysis reveals the intact translocon at an unprecedented level of resolution, its deployment in the host cell membrane, and the establishment of an intimate association between the bacteria and the target cells, which is essential for effector translocation. Our studies provide critical data supporting the long postulated direct injection model for effector translocation.

Herpesviruses acquire their envelope by budding into the lumen of cytoplasmic membrane vesicles. This process is initiated by component(s) on viral particles, which recognize the budding site where the viral glycoproteins are present and recruit cellular cargo transport and sorting machinery to the site to complete the budding process. Proteins in the tegument layer, connecting capsid and envelope, are candidates for the recognition of budding sites on vesicle membrane and induction of budding and final envelopment. We examined several outer and matrix tegument proteins of Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) and found that ORF45 associates with lipid rafts (LRs) of cellular membrane. LRs are membrane micro-domains, which have been implicated as relay stations in intracellular signaling and transport including viral entry and virion assembly. The ability of ORF45 to target LR is dependent on the mono-ubiquitylation of ORF45 at Lys297 as the mutation at Lys297 (K297R) abolished LR-association of ORF45. The K297R mutation also impairs ORF45 and viral particle co-localization with trans-Golgi network and endosomes, but facilitates ORF45 and viral particles co-localizing with lysosomes. More importantly, the recombinant KSHV carrying ORF45 K297R mutant (BAC-K297R) was found severely defective in producing mature and infectious virion particles in comparison to wild type KSHV (BAC16). Taken together, our results reveal a new function of KSHV tegument protein ORF45 in targeting LR of host cell membrane, promoting viral particles co-localization with trans-Golgi and endosome vesicles and facilitating the maturation and release of virion particles, suggesting that ORF45 plays a role in bringing KSHV particles to the budding site on cytoplasmic vesicle membrane and triggering the viral budding process for final envelopment and virion maturation.

Kaposi's Sarcoma-Associated Herpesvirus (KSHV) is an oncogenic virus which has adapted unique mechanisms to modulate the cellular microenvironment of its human host. The pathogenesis of KSHV is intimately linked to its manipulation of cellular signaling pathways, including the extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway. We have previously shown that KSHV ORF45 contributes to the sustained activation of both ERK and p90 ribosomal S6 kinase (RSK, a major functional mediator of ERK/MAPK signaling) during KSHV lytic replication. ORF45-activated RSK is required for optimal KSHV lytic gene expression and progeny virion production, though the underlying mechanisms downstream of this activation are still unclear. We hypothesized that the activation of RSK by ORF45 causes differential phosphorylation of cellular and viral substrates, affecting biological processes essential for efficient KSHV lytic replication. Accordingly, we observed widespread and significant differences in protein phosphorylation upon induction of lytic replication. Mass-spectrometry-based phosphoproteomic screening identified putative substrates of ORF45-activated RSK in KSHV-infected cells. Bioinformatic analyses revealed that nuclear proteins, including several transcriptional regulators, were overrepresented among these candidates. We validated the ORF45/RSK-dependent phosphorylation of several putative substrates by employing KSHV BAC mutagenesis, kinase inhibitor treatments, and/or CRISPR-mediated knockout of RSK in KSHV-infected cells. Furthermore, we assessed the consequences of knocking out these substrates on ORF45/RSK-dependent regulation of gene expression and KSHV progeny virion production. Finally, we show data to support that ORF45 regulates the translational efficiency of a subset of viral/cellular genes with complex secondary structure in their 5' UTR. Altogether, these data shed light on the mechanisms by which KSHV ORF45 manipulates components of the host cell machinery via modulation of RSK activity. Thus, this study has important implications for the pathobiology of KSHV and other diseases in which RSK activity is dysregulated.
