BackgroundRisk factors for depressive disorders (DD) change substantially over time, but the prognostic value of these changes remains unclear. Two basic types of dynamic effects are possible. The ‘Risk Escalation hypothesis’ posits that worsening of risk levels predicts DD onset above average level of risk factors. Alternatively, the ‘Chronic Risk hypothesis’ posits that the average level rather than change predicts first-onset DD.MethodsWe utilized data from the ADEPT project, a cohort of 496 girls (baseline age 13.5–15.5 years) from the community followed for 3 years. Participants underwent five waves of assessments for risk factors and diagnostic interviews for DD. For illustration purposes, we selected 16 well-established dynamic risk factors for adolescent depression, such as depressive and anxiety symptoms, personality traits, clinical traits, and social risk factors. We conducted Cox regression analyses with time-varying covariates to predict first DD onset.ResultsConsistently elevated risk factors (i.e. the mean of multiple waves), but not recent escalation, predicted first-onset DD, consistent with the Chronic Risk hypothesis. This hypothesis was supported across all 16 risk factors.ConclusionsAcross a range of risk factors, girls who had first-onset DD generally did not experience a sharp increase in risk level shortly before the onset of disorder; rather, for years before onset, they exhibited elevated levels of risk. Our findings suggest that chronicity of risk should be a particular focus in screening high-risk populations to prevent the onset of DDs. In particular, regular monitoring of risk factors in school settings is highly informative.

Introduction: Body image has been shown to be subject to explicit, body-related feedback influences, yet little attention has been paid to subtle feedback about overall social acceptability. The current study tested competing hypotheses regarding women's body image after being primed with cued social rejection or acceptance. Whereas sociometer theory predicts that women will perceive their bodies more negatively following a social rejection prime, self-enhancement theory predicts the opposite. Method: A total of 105 female undergraduate students underwent a conditioning procedure in which distinctive tones were paired with signs of social rejection or acceptance. After this, body distortion (measured by a participant-adjusted virtual image), self-reported body satisfaction and affect were measured, while one of the tones sounded repeatedly in the background. Results: Compared with the acceptance condition, rejection condition participants reported greater state negative affect, F(1, 103) = 4.41, p = .04, greater state positive affect, F(1, 103) = 5.52, p = .02, and perceived their bodies as being smaller, F(1, 103) = 6.53, p = .01, consistent with the expectations of self-enhancement theory. Discussion: Implications of these findings are discussed regarding improved understanding of body image disturbance as well as development of novel clinical treatments.

For the high-value utilization of tuna liver, the effects of acid-aided (Acid-pH) and alkali-aided pH-shifting (Alkali-pH) on the physicochemical and functional properties of the protein powder prepared by pH-shifting and freeze-drying were studied. As expected, the protein powder with high purity could be obtained through Acid-pH or Alkali-pH followed by freeze drying, while the Alkali-pH led to a higher protein yield, higher protein ratio, lower lipid ratio and lower heavy metal content than Acid-pH. The amino acid profile of the protein powder prepared by Alkali-pH (Alkali-PP) was similar with that prepared by Acid-pH (Acid-PP). In addition, compared with Acid-PP, the Alkali-PP possessed the greater capacities in emulsion activity, foaming capacity and fat absorption capacity. Furthermore, the foaming capacity, foam stability and fat absorption capacity of Alkali-PP was better than soy protein powder. Therefore, Alkali-pH followed by freeze-drying would be a better alternative to prepare high-quality protein powder from tuna liver in the food industry.

Body image is a multidimensional construct that reflects the way we perceive and feel about our physical appearance. This inside view of our body heavily influences our self-esteem, mental health, and overall well-being. Under the influence of mass media, peers and family, individuals, especially women, may feel pressured to conform to the societal standards of beauty, engage in upward social comparison, and consequently experience negative body image. While our sociocultural surroundings plays a role in the internalization process, other intrapersonal factors, such as appearance-based rejection sensitivity and lack of self-concept clarity, may heighten the risk for some individuals. Body image disturbances can be manifested in forms of avoidance behaviors, monitoring, eating restraints, and body modification. In order to promote body acceptance, we ought to gain insights into the formation of our body image and challenge the commonly held belief on who defines beauty.

Perfectionistic cognitions are thinking patterns that reflect excessive striving and are associated with emotional disorders in nonclinical samples. Despite literature connecting trait perfectionism with psychological disorders, much remains unknown about how perfectionistic cognitions relate to anxiety disorder symptoms in clinical populations. This is the first study to our knowledge that investigates how symptoms of anxiety and related symptoms are influenced by the frequency of perfectionistic cognitions when controlling for well documented correlates of anxiety. Perfectionistic cognitions, depressive symptoms, emotion regulation, anxiety sensitivity, and anxiety symptom severity were assessed prior to starting treatment in 356 treatment-seeking patients diagnosed with an anxiety or anxiety-related disorder at a specialty anxiety clinic. Perfectionistic cognitions were significantly correlated with all anxiety symptom measures as well as measures of depression, emotion regulation and anxiety sensitivity (range of rs =.22-.68). Hierarchical regression analyses revealed that when controlling for depressive symptoms, anxiety sensitivity, and emotion regulation, perfectionistic cognitions significantly and uniquely contribute to the variance of GAD (p .01) and PTSD (p .05) symptoms but not other anxiety-related symptoms (all ps.05). Regardless of specific diagnoses, treatment-seeking individuals reporting frequent perfectionistic thoughts are more likely to report more severe symptoms of PTSD and GAD.

OBJECTIVE Machine learning algorithms in electronic medical records can classify patients by suicide risk, but no research has explored clinicians' perceptions of suicide risk flags generated by these algorithms, which may affect algorithm implementation. The objective of this study was to evaluate clinician perceptions of suicide risk flags. METHODS Participants (n = 139; 68 with complete data) were mental health clinicians recruited to complete online surveys from October 2018 to April 2019. RESULTS Most participants preferred to know which features resulted in a patient receiving a suicide flag (94.12%) and reported that knowing those features would influence their treatment (88.24%). Clinicians were more likely to report that some algorithm features (increased thoughts of suicide) would alter their clinical decisions more than others (age, physical health conditions; χ² = 270.84, P < .001). Clinicians were more likely to report that they would create a safety/crisis response plan in response to a suicide risk flag compared to other interventions (χ² = 227.02, P < .001), and 21% reported that they would complete a no-suicide contract following a suicide risk flag. CONCLUSIONS Clinicians overwhelmingly reported that suicide risk flags in electronic medical records would alter their clinical decision making. However, clinicians' likelihood of acting in response to a suicide risk flag was tied to which features were highlighted rather than the presence of the risk flag alone. Thus, the utility of a suicide risk algorithm will be reduced if clinical features underlying the algorithm are hidden from clinicians or if clinicians do not view the clinical features as intuitively meaningful predictors of suicide risk.

While psychiatric disorder prevalence is higher among patients living with HIV (PLWH), there are no prior studies on rates of psychiatric diagnosis documentation in electronic medical records (EMRs) of PLWH, which was the goal of this study. Participants (n = 2,336) were enrolled in the Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) Longitudinal Database study. Diagnostic codes were extracted to assess the prevalence rates of depressive, alcohol/substance use, PTSD, sleep, and adjustment disorders. Prevalence rates for psychiatric disorders were extracted from national epidemiological studies for comparison. Rates of Major Depressive Disorder in the EMR were comparable to prior epidemiological reports in PLWH. In contrast, rates of PTSD, substance use, alcohol use, adjustment, and insomnia disorders were all markedly lower compared to epidemiological studies. While clinicians appropriately documented depression, other psychiatric comorbidities were largely overlooked. This indicates a potential bias in the detection or documentation of psychiatric disorders in PLWH.

We also found a mediation effect, wherein reductions in shame fully mediated the relationship between the average number of words participants wrote in the exposure module and reductions in social anxiety symptoms (SIAS: β=−.0049; SE 0.0016; 95% CI −0.0085 to −0.0019 and SPS: β=−.0039; SE 0.0015; 95% CI −0.0075 to −0.0012). CONCLUSIONS The findings of this study suggest that participants’ engagement in the exposure module in ICBT alleviates social anxiety symptoms by reducing the levels of shame proneness. Our study provides a new perspective for understanding the role of shame in the treatment of social anxiety. The possible mechanisms of the mediation effect and clinical implications are discussed.

Most previous research has focused on the relationships between specific personality traits and specific facets of mental health. However, in reality most of the Big Five are associated at non–trivial levels with mental health. To account for this broad correlation, we proposed the ‘barometer hypothesis’, positing that behind both ratings of mental health and personality lies a barometer that indicates one's general feelings of positivity or negativity. To the extent that both the general factors of personality and mental health reflect this same barometer, we would expect them to be correlated. We tested alternative models using data from a large longitudinal panel study that includes two cohorts of participants who were assessed every two years, resulting in parallel 4–year longitudinal studies. Similar results were obtained across both studies. Supporting the ‘barometer hypothesis’, findings revealed that the optimal model included general latent factors for both personality traits and mental health. Compared to the broad raw pairwise correlations, the bi–factor latent change models revealed that the relation among levels and changes in the specific factors were substantially reduced when controlling for the general factors. Still, some relations remained relatively unaffected by the inclusion of the general factor. We discuss implications of these findings. The increasing number of nodes in wireless multi-hop Ad hoc network is one of the greatest challenges for its further development since the subsequent high scheduling delay and overhead will jeopardize the performance of network, such as transmission efficiency. To address the scalability problem, this paper establishes a novel Centralized Scheduling based Hierarchical Ad hoc Network (CS-HAN) using frequency division clustering mechanism, in which the scheduling overhead and delay is reduced by narrowing the range of neighbor maintenance. The interference and system capacity utilization rate model are given with joint consideration of the impacts of inter-cluster frequency reuse parameters, network parameters, scheduling parameters and frame structure design. Simulation results show that the system capacity utilization rate gradually arises first and decreases later as the frequency number increases. The reason is though the frequency interference decreases in the beginning, the bandwidth of channel at each frequency point becomes too narrow to support transmission. The influence of how many clusters use the same frequency, network scale and traffic parameters on system capacity utilization rate is also revealed.

Space-ground TT&C resource integrated scheduling problem (TTCRISP) is a representative of large combinative optimization problem, and its optimization process is very complicated, single ant colony optimization (ACO) strategy has disadvantage of low efficiency and poor performance. For this reason, this paper proposes two different serial structure hybrid approaches which combine ACO with genetic algorithm (GA) to tackle TTCRISP. GA is used to accelerate the low optimization efficiency due to the lack of pheromone in the early processing stage of ACO and to prevent premature convergence. Results indicate that the new method performs better than the previously presented methods from the subjective and objective viewpoints and is a viable and effective approach for the space-ground TT&C resource integrated scheduling problem.

Introduction: The present research focused on negative self-conscious emotions, examining the predictive utility of a set of appraisals and action tendencies as compared to emotion labels. Method: In two studies, participants were asked to recall multiple negative self-conscious emotional experiences, and rate each experience using the appraisals and action tendencies, as well as a set of emotion labels. Results: The data revealed that in each emotional experience, participants are likely to experience multiple appraisals, action tendencies, and negative self-conscious emotions simultaneously. Further, the use of appraisals and action tendencies (as opposed to emotion labels) demonstrated excellent utility in predicting a variety of outcomes indicative of psychopathology and psychological well-being (i.e., depression, social anxiety, meanness, relationship quality). Discussion: Implications for the conceptualization and assessment of negative self-conscious emotions are discussed.

Methane is one of the most important greenhouse gases and plays an essential role in atmospheric chemistry. Knowledge about methanotrophs and their diversity is important to understand the microbial mediation of the greenhouse gas CH4 under climate change. The methanotrophs is one of main functional microbial groups in soil mediating methane cycles of terrestrial ecosystem. The purpose of this study was to explore spatial distribution pattern of methanotrophs diversity and the major factors affecting soil methanotrophs diversity along an elevation gradient on vertical natural belt of the North Tianshan Mountains, soil samples were collected at six sites in 2010, which were desert grassland belt (H1), Mountain grassland belt (H2), Mountain forest belt (H3), sub-alpine cushion belt (H4), alpine cushion belt (H5), alpine tundra vegetation (H6). Methanotrophs diversity in six sites from the North Tianshan Mountain were assessed with terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (T-RFLP). The carbon–nitrogen ratio was significant difference under different vertical natural belt, ranged from 10.34 to 20.10, soil organic carbon were lowest in alpine tundra vegetation and highest in Mountain forest belt, those numbers of belts ranging from H1 to H3 were increased, with increasing elevation, then H3 to H6 were decreased. The total number of Terminal Restriction Fragments (T-RFs) derived from all those soil samples was 233, indicating high genetic diversity of methanotrophs on vertical natural belt of the North Tianshan Mountains. Microbial communities of T-RFs 55 bp, 242 bp, 376 bp represented the dominant species in sampling sites. However, some of the T-RFs were more sensitive to environment, such as 79 bp, 176 bp and 250 bp. Methanotrophs diversity index and T-RFs numbers were lowest in mountain forest belt and highest in subalpine cushion belt. Along the elevation gradient, the trendency of those numbers are as follows, H1>H2>H3 H5>H6. Cluster analysis revealed that the samples could be separated into two groups, H4, H5 and H6 clustered into one group, while H2 and H3 clustered into other group. The community shifts were further investigated by Principle component analysis (PCA). The first PCA axis, which is related to the main compositional variation, separated the communities of the different sites. The main variation was mainly caused by changes in the relative abundance of the 58 bp, 87 bp, 137 bp, 243 bp and 248 bp T-RFs. Based on canonical correspondence analysis (CCA), Shannon index(H) of methanotrophs was positively correlated with soil pH and C/N ratio and negatively correlated with elevation, content of total nitrogen and total phosphorus; and Simpson index (D) and Evenness (E) were positively correlated with soils’ C/N ratio, soil surface temperature, pH and organic carbon, and negatively with elevation, total nitrogen and total phosphorus; indicating that plant communities and soil nutrients influence the soil microbial structure. Our research showed that soil methanotrophs was high genetic diversity along the elevation gradient on vertical natural belt in the North Tianshan Mountain. Soil microorganisms were positively correlated with vegetation, soils pH, C/N ratio, and soil moisture, total nitrogen, these parameters might be the main factors controlling soil methanotrophs diversity.

IntroductionStrong evidence establishes a close relationship between personality traits and mental illness; where personality can be said to influences the likelihood, severity and longevity of a mental disorder. Personality is usually seen as fixed, yet there is a growing body of evidence for the changeability of personality, though this has rarely been studied in relation to mental disorders.ObjectiveTo study the longitudinal interplay between personality and eating disorders (EDs), particularly the associations between personality, recovery and treatment modality.AimsTo investigate changes in the five domains and thirty lower-level facets of personality in non-underweight EDs, and its associations to intervention and outcome.MethodsTwo hundred and nine adults with EDs enrolled either in a four-month multimodal psychodynamic group-therapy (DAY) or four-six month internet-based supported cognitive behavioural therapy (iCBT). ED diagnosis and personality (by the five-factor model) were assessed at baseline, termination and 6-month follow up. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze domain-level development, and reliable change (RCI) for facet-level development.ResultsRemission rate at end of treatment was 71% in DAY and 55% in iCBT. Over time, Neuroticism decreased significantly while Extraversion, Openness and Conscientiousness increased (P < 0.01). Treatment and outcome had little influence on domain-level change. At the facet-level, 28% of patients reliably changed in any given facet, and there were several differences in pattern based on treatment and outcome.ConclusionsThis study lends support for the possibility of personality change and its relevance for recovery from EDs.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Consistent with affect regulation models of eating-related psychopathology, prior research indicates that trait-like shame and state self-conscious emotion are associated with maladaptive eating-related attitudes/behaviors. The present investigation extended past research on shame and maladaptive eating-related attitudes/behaviors by examining the role of shame aversion — the perception of shame as an especially unwanted and painful emotion — in these attitudes/behaviors over and above shame-proneness, general distress, and experiential avoidance. In 488 female undergraduates, shame aversion was positively associated with dieting, self-perceptions of body shape, awareness of food content, and food preoccupation even after taking into account other possible explanatory variables. Additionally, shame aversion moderated shame-proneness' associations with dieting, awareness of food content, and food preoccupation, such that shame-proneness was positively associated with these attitudes/behaviors only when shame aversion was high. Future directions for research and clinical implications of the present findings are discussed.

In order to investigate the composition and diversity of endolithic bacteria at special habitats in Xinjiang.Five rock samples were collected, including Wusu's granite (sample 1), Glacier No. 1, and Mulei's metamorphic rock (sample 2, sample 3), Yumin and Tokesun's Rock varnish (sample 4, sample 5). Endolithic bacterial community composition and diversity were analyzed by the method of Terminal Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism.Differences in diversity indexes among samples were not apparent. Clustering analysis suggested that similarity coefficient was higher in same rock type, sample 2 and sample 3 were grouped together, then sample 1 clustered with them, and sample 4 and sample 5 were classified together. All samples harbored these phyla such as Firmicutes, Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes. Acidobacteria and Planctomycetes existed in sample 1 and sample 2, respectively; Sample 5 was dominated by Actinobacteria, while other samples were dominated by Proteobacteria.The endolithic bacterial composition of same rock type collected at various habitats was different. Meanwhile, a diversity of novel species and lineages maybe existed in rocks.
