Utilizing the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecast (ECMWF) Reanalysis v5 (ERA5), for the first time, we have confirmed close links among Sudden Stratospheric Warmings (SSWs) in the Northern Hemisphere (NH), the polar vortices, and stratospheric Planetary Waves (PWs) by analyzing and comparing their trends. Interestingly, within overall increasing trends, the duration and strength of SSWs exhibit increasing and decreasing trends before and after the winter of 2002, respectively. To reveal possible physical mechanisms driving these trends, we analyzed the long-term trends of the winter (from December to February) polar vortices and of stratospheric PWs with zonal wave number 1. Notably, our results show that in all three time periods (the entire period of 41 winters, 1980 to 2020, and the two subperiods — 1980−2002 and 2002−2020) enhancing SSWs were always accompanied by weakening winter polar vortices and strengthening polar PWs like Stationary Planetary Waves (SPWs) and 16-day waves, and vice versa. This is the first proof, based on ERA5 long-term trend data, that weakening polar vortices and enhancing stratospheric PWs (especially SPWs) could cause an increase in SSWs.

In this work, a novel type of nuclear shielding material capable of shielding γ rays and neutrons, W-B-Ni-Fe cermets, was synthesized using W, NiB, and Fe powders by reactive boride sintering. The cermets possessed a constant (Ni + Fe)/B atomic ratio of 1.50 and various W/B atomic ratio (ARWB) of 8.26, 3.25, 1.88 and 1.24, respectively. Microstructure and mechanical properties were characterized and analyzed, and corrosion behavior was discussed using electrochemical method in 1.0 M H2SO4 aqueous solution. After sintering, the cermets were composed of orthorhombic W2(Ni,Fe)B2 hard phase, W phase and Ni based binder phase. The homogeneous microstructure with both fine W2(Ni,Fe)B2 and W particles was obtained when ARWB was 3.25. At room temperature (RT), the hardness increased monotonically with ARWB decreasing, while the compressive and bending strengths peaked when ARWB was 3.25 due to the cooperative effect of hard-phase and grain-refinement strengthening. At high temperature (500 ℃), the presence of ductile W phase enabled an increase of bending strength compared to that at RT. The corrosion of cermets in 1.0 M H2SO4 solution began with active dissolution of Ni based binder phase, and then the passivation process occurred with the formation of blue WO3-x phase. With ARWB decreasing, Icorr was first sharply decreased and then sharply increased. The impedance value of cermet was lowest when ARWB was 3.25 which is due to the relatively lower forming ability of passive film.

ABSTRACT: In the spring of 2023, 10 to 21-day-old chicks in a broiler duck farm in Shandong Province, China, developed swelling of the head and neck, moist eyes with mucous discharge, difficulty in walking, shrinking of the neck, and loose and disorganized coat. Anatomical observation revealed hemorrhages in the esophageal mucosa, myocardium, and liver, and severe hemorrhages in the trachea with copious inflammatory secretions. Soon after, similar symptoms appeared in a large number of ducks in the flock, which eventually led to the elimination of all the 20,000-odd newly introduced ducklings on the farm, resulting in huge economic losses. We detected duck plague virus in the tissues of liver, spleen and lungs of diseased and dead ducks, and successfully isolated the pathogenic strain, named SD423, by inoculating duck embryos and inoculating duck embryo fibroblasts. We successfully conducted animal regression experiments with the isolated strain, and the experimental animals in the 1 d of age group showed symptoms of swollen eyes and tearing, shrinking of the neck, crouching, and hemorrhage in organs such as the liver and intestines successively from the 3rd d. We sequenced the whole genome of the isolated duck plague strain, and by comparing the homology with the published duck plague virus whole sequences in Genbank, the virus strain obtained in this study had the highest homology with the Chinese virulent strain SD (MN518864.1), with nucleotide (nt) homology of about 99.90% and amino acid (aa) homology of about 99.75%, which indicated that the isolate is a virulent strain. Previously, it was reported that the natural infection of duck plague virus mainly occurs above 30 d of age, but the duck plague virus found in this study can naturally infect ducklings up to 20 d of age, and the mortality rate is as high as 100%. In this study, the pathogenicity test and whole genome sequence analysis of this isolate provided data support and theoretical basis for further research on pathogenicity and virulence-related gene analysis of duck plague virus.

Abstract Recent advances in surface-patterning techniques of liquid crystals have enabled the precise creation of topological defects, which promise a variety of emergent applications. However, the manipulation and application of these defects remain limited. Here, we harness the moiré effect to engineer topological defects in patterned nematic liquid crystal cells. Specifically, we combine simulation and experiment to examine a nematic cell confined between two substrates of periodic surface anchoring patterns; by rotating one surface against the other, we observe a rich variety of highly tunable, novel topological defects. These defects are shown to guide the three-dimensional self-assembly of colloids, which can conversely impact defects by preventing the self-annihilation of loop-defects through jamming. Finally, we demonstrate that certain nematic moiré cells can engender arbitrary shapes represented by defect regions. As such, the proposed simple twist method enables the design and tuning of mesoscopic structures in liquid crystals, facilitating applications including defect-directed self-assembly, material transport, micro-reactors, photonic devices, and anti-counterfeiting materials.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a significant public health issue characterized by progressive and irreversible airflow limitation. The aim of this meta-analysis was to determine the association between changes in serum galectin-3 levels and COPD and to assess the relationship between serum galectin-3 levels and acute exacerbations of COPD (AECOPD). Relevant observational studies were retrieved from electronic databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Wanfang, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). A random-effects model was used to combine the data, incorporating the influence of between-study heterogeneity. Twelve case-control studies were included. The pooled results showed a significantly higher serum level of galectin-3 in patients with COPD compared to controls (standardized mean difference [SMD] 0.60; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.40 - 0.80; P < 0.001; I2 = 68%). Further meta-analysis suggested higher levels of serum galectin-3 in patients with AECOPD compared to those with stable COPD (SMD 0.33; 95% CI 0.20 - 0.46; P < 0.001; I2 = 0%). Subgroup analyses according to the mean age of the participants, the proportion of males, and study quality scores did not significantly change the results (P for subgroup differences all > 0.05). In conclusion, patients with COPD were found to have higher serum levels of galectin-3, with levels further elevated in patients with AECOPD compared to those with stable COPD.

Abstract To study the role of energy system demand‐side regulation capacity on carbon emission reduction, we proposed a regional integrated energy system (RIES) optimal dispatch model considering carbon trading cost and dynamic demand response (DR). First, based on the framework of the RIES, the impact of DR of transferable load, reducible load, and substitutable load demand on system operation, considering the response characteristics of electrical and thermal load, was analyzed. Second, the carbon quota of the system was analyzed, and the effect of carbon emissions and carbon capture technology on system operation was considered. Finally, a low carbon optimized operation model of RIES was established with system operating cost and operating efficiency as the target, and system capacity and energy storage power as the constraints. The effectiveness of the optimized operation of the improved intelligent evolutionary algorithm nondominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA‐II) was verified as a research method. The results show that the energy efficiency of the system can be improved by tuning the DR of load demand with the application of the optimal operation model, and a coordination optimization on the economic and low carbon in RIES operation can also be achieved by the improved NSGA‐II algorithm.

This paper focuses on addressing the synchronization control problem of memristive chaos through the investigation of a single feedback controller strategy. Our objective is to deploy this strategy on field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA) with the aim of bolstering the security and reliability of memristive chaotic synchronization control. Concurrently, we seek to enhance system performance and fulfill the diverse requirements of various applications. Initially, the study utilizes chaos synchronization theory and the Routh–Hurwitz stability criterion to devise a feedback controller with a single input. This controller plays a crucial role in establishing a synchronization system specifically designed for memristive chaos. Subsequently, the FPGA design approach utilizing DSP Builder is employed to create models for both the single-input feedback controller and the memristive chaotic synchronization control system. This approach facilitates the efficient translation of these theoretical concepts into practical digital circuit implementations. Finally, the paper concludes with an experimental analysis that verifies the feasibility and practical applicability of the FPGA circuit design for memristive chaotic synchronization control.

Blazars are a subject of intense debate, specifically regarding their jet launch and emission mechanisms, and the origins of their γ -ray radiation. To explore these issues, we have built a comprehensive sample of flat-spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs), with well-characterized spectral energy distribution. This study aims to elucidate the dominant jet launch mechanism and the main processes behind the inverse Compton (IC) component. Additionally, we seek to pinpoint the location of the γ -ray dissipation region relative to the central black hole, denoted as R _γ . Our approach involves a detailed analysis of broad-line region (BLR) emission, from which we derive robust estimates of the black hole masses using two distinct virial techniques. This enables us to constrain the jet power across a wide array of FSRQs. Our findings lead to several significant conclusions: (i) The correlation of jet power with black hole mass allows us to test the Blandford–Znajek, Blandford–Payne, and hybrid mechanisms. We find that the hybrid mechanism is most effective in explaining the jet power observed in the majority of FSRQs; (ii) The IC component of the γ -rays in FSRQs is predominantly due to the external Compton process. (iii) Through simulations, we determine the minimum and maximum values of R _γ (the γ -ray dissipation region) and conclude it is located outside the BLR. This conclusion is derived from the variability timescale analysis.

This longitudinal study used diet-wide association studies (DWAS) to investigate the association between diverse dietary food and nutrient intakes and the onset of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Out of 502,505 participants from the UK Biobank, 119,040 with dietary data free of T2DM at the baseline were included, and 3241 developed T2DM during a median follow-up of 11.7 years. The DWAS analysis, which is based on Cox regression models, was used to analyse the associations between dietary food or nutrient intake factors and T2DM risk. The study found that 10 out of 225 dietary factors were significantly associated with the T2DM risk. Total alcohol (HR = 0.86, 0.85–0.92, p = 1.26 × 10−32), red wine (HR = 0.89, 0.88–0.94, p = 7.95 × 10−19), and fresh tomatoes (HR = 0.92, 0.89–0.94, p = 2.3 × 10−11) showed a negative association with T2DM risk, whereas sliced buttered bread exhibited a positive association. Additionally, 5 out of 21 nutrient intake variables revealed significant associations with the T2DM risk, with iron having the highest protective effect and starch as a risk factor. In conclusion, DWAS is an effective method for discovering novel associations when exploring numerous dietary variables simultaneously and could provide valuable insight into future dietary guidance for T2DM.

Since the rolling bearing fault signal captured by a vibration sensor contains a large amount of background noise, fault features cannot be accurately extracted. To address this problem, a rolling bearing fault feature extraction algorithm based on improved pelican optimization algorithm (IPOA)–variable modal decomposition (VMD) and multipoint optimal minimum entropy deconvolution adjustment (MOMEDA) methods is proposed. Firstly, the pelican optimization algorithm (POA) was improved using a reverse learning strategy for dimensional-by-dimensional lens imaging and circle mapping, and the optimization performance of IPOA was verified. Secondly, the kurtosis-square envelope Gini coefficient criterion was used to select the optimal modal components from the decomposed components of the signal, and MOMEDA was used to process the optimal modal components in order to obtain the optimal deconvolution signal. Finally, the Teager energy operator (TEO) was employed to demodulate and analyze the optimally deconvoluted signal in order to enhance the transient shock component of the original fault signal. The effectiveness of the proposed method was verified using simulated and actual signals. The results showed that the proposed method can accurately extract failure characteristics in the presence of strong background noise interference.

Abstract Background Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the lethal cancers with a high mortality rate worldwide and understanding the mechanisms behind its progression is critical for improving patients’ prognosis and developing therapeutics. MiR-500a-3p has been demonstrated to be involved in the progression of several human cancers but its role in CRC remains unclear. The aim of this study is to uncover the expression pattern and mechanisms of action of miR-500a-3p during the CRC progression. Methods The expression of miR-500a-3p and Cyclin-dependent kinases 6 (CDK6) in 134 CRC tissues were tested by quantitative PCR (qPCR) and immunohistochemistry staining (IHC), respectively. The effect of miR-500a-3p on cell proliferation was explored in vitro and in vivo. The glycolysis of CRC cells was determined by Mass Spectrometry and Seahorse XF 96 Extracellular Flux Analyzer. A dual-luciferase reporter assay was performed to validate the relationship between miR-500a-3p and CDK6. Results miR-500a-3p was abnormally downregulated in CRC tissues and cell lines and was negatively associated with a worse prognosis. miR-500a-3p mimics impeded CRC cell proliferation in vitro and in vivo. miR-500a-3p inhibited glucose consumption, lactate and ATP production, and down-regulated the expression of hexokinase2 (HK2). In silico prediction combined with western blot and luciferase assay confirmed that CDK6 is a direct target of miR-500a-3p. Overexpression of CDK6 phenotypically rescued the inhibitory effect of miR-500a-3p on the proliferation and glycolysis of CRC cells. Conclusions Our study revealed a potential tumor-suppressive role of miR-500a-3p in CRC, specifically targeting CDK6 and inhibiting cancer cell proliferation and aerobic glycolysis, which may provide new insights into novel prognostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets for CRC.

As a typical pseudocapacitor material, VOx possesses mixed valence states, making it an ideal electrode material for symmetric screen-printed supercapacitors. However, its high internal resistance and low energy density are the main hurdles to its widespread application. In this study, a two-dimensional PANI@VOx nanobelt with a core-shell architecture was constructed via a two-step route. This strategy involves the preparation of VOx using a solvothermal method, and a subsequent in situ polymerization process of the PANI. By virtue of the synergistic effect between the VOx core and the PANI shell, the optimal VOx@PANI has an enhanced conductivity of 0.7 ± 0.04 S/Ω, which can deliver a high specific capacitance of 347.5 F/g at 0.5 A/g, a decent cycling life of ~72.0%, and an outstanding Coulomb efficiency of ~100% after 5000 cycles at 5 A/g. Moreover, a flexible all-solid-state symmetric supercapacitor (VOx@PANI SSC) with an in-planar interdigitated structure was screen-printed and assembled on a nickel current collector; it yielded a remarkable areal energy density of 115.17 μWh/cm2 at an areal power density of 0.39 mW/cm2, and possessed outstanding flexibility and mechanical performance. Notably, a “Xiaomi” hygrothermograph (3.0 V) was powered easily by tandem SSCs with an operating voltage of 3.1 V. Therefore, this advanced pseudocapacitor material with core-shell architecture opens novel ideas for flexible symmetric supercapacitors in powering portable/wearable products.

The emergence of the Internet of things stimulates the pursuit of flexible and miniaturized supercapacitors. As an advanced technology, screen printing displays vigor and tremendous potential in fabricating supercapacitors, but the adoption of high-performance ink is a great challenge. Here, hierarchical V3O7 with rodlike texture was prepared via a facile template–solvothermal route; and the morphology, component, and valence bond information are characterized meticulously. Then, the screen-printed inks composed of V3O7, acetylene black, and PVDF are formulated, and the rheological behaviors are studied detailedly. Benefitting from the orderly aligned ink, the optimal screen-printed electrode can exhibit an excellent specific capacitance of 274.5 F/g at 0.3 A/g and capacitance retention of 81.9% after 5000 cycles. In addition, a flexible V3O7 symmetrical supercapacitor (SSC) is screen-printed and assembled on the Ag current collector, exhibiting a decent areal specific capacitance of 322.5 mF/cm2 at 0.5 mA/cm2, outstanding cycling stability of 90.8% even after 5000 cycles, satisfactory maximum energy density of 129.45 μWh/cm2 at a power density of 0.42 mW/cm2, and remarkable flexibility and durability. Furthermore, a single SSC enables the showing of an actual voltage of 1.70 V after charging, and no obvious self-discharge phenomenon is found, revealing the great applied value in supply power. Therefore, this work provides a facile and low-cost reference of screen-printed ink for large-scale fabrication of flexible supercapacitors.

Abstract The global amplitude of the westward propagating quasi-16-day waves (16DW) with wavenumber 1 (Q16W1), the strongest component of 16DW, are derived from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts ERA-Interim reanalysis temperature and zonal wind data sets from February 1979 to January 2018. In terms of temperature and zonal wind, strong climatologically average amplitudes of Q16W1 appear in the upper stratosphere at mid–high latitudes in both hemispheres, and the wave amplitude is stronger in the Northern Hemisphere (NH) than in the Southern Hemisphere (SH). Multivariate linear regression is separately applied to calculate the responses of the Q16W1 temperature and zonal wind amplitudes to the QBO (quasi-biennial oscillation), ENSO (El Niño-Southern Oscillation), solar activity and linear trends of the Q16W1 amplitude. The QBO signatures of the Q16W1 temperature and zonal wind amplitudes are mainly located in the stratosphere. The Q16W1 has significant QBO responses at low latitudes. In addition, only the temperature amplitude presents a larger QBO signature in its strongest climatological amplitude region. No significant responses to ENSO and solar activity are observed in temperature and zonal wind amplitudes. The linear trends of the monthly mean Q16W1 temperature and zonal wind amplitude are generally positive, especially in the mid-upper stratosphere. The trend is asymmetric about the equator and significantly stronger in the NH than in the SH. The seasonal variation in the trend of the temperature amplitude is studied and illustrated to be stronger in winter and weaker in spring and autumn. Further investigation suggests that the background and local instability trends contribute most of the increasing trend of the Q16W1 amplitude. In winter in both hemispheres, a weakening trend of eastward zonal wind provides more favourable background wind for Q16W1 upward propagation, in autumn and winter in the NH and in spring, autumn and winter in the SH, and the increasing trend of local instability may enhance wave excitation. The tumor microenvironment (TME) plays a crucial role in tumor progression and metastasis. However, the immune phenotypes of colorectal cancer (CRC) and the underlying immune escape mechanism have not been studied sufficiently. A total of 1802 and 619 CRC samples from the microarray and TCGA cohorts were enrolled, respectively. The ssGSEA algorithm and unsupervised clustering were used for TME cell infiltration speculation and immune phenotype recognition in the above cohorts. A total of 447 samples from Zhongshan Hospital were collected for validation. Immunohistochemistry was performed in this cohort to quantify TME cell infiltration. The single-cell RNA-seq (scRNA-seq) data of 252,940 cells from 60 CRC samples was analyzed for further mechanistic exploration. CRC samples can be classified into three distinct immune phenotypes. Subtype 1, the immune-active subtype, was characterized by high infiltration of activated adaptive immune cells. Subtype 2, the immune-desert subtype, featured high tumor purity and low infiltration of immune and stromal cells. Subtype 3, the stroma-rich subtype, had high infiltration of stromal cells. The stroma-rich subtype conferred a significantly worse prognosis. The three subtypes had different immune escape mechanisms. The immune-active subtype has the highest immune checkpoint expression level. In comparison, the immune-desert subtype had the lowest immunogenicity and defective antigen presentation. The stroma-rich subtype lacked activated immune cells. In conclusion, distinct immune phenotypes and immune escape mechanisms may provide inspiration and direction for further research on CRC immunotherapy.

Background: N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification plays crucial roles in cancers. However, its alteration in colorectal cancer (CRC) is still poorly described. The purpose of this study is to explore the change of m6A modification and the function of m6A binding protein YTHDC2 in CRC. Methods: The global level of m6A modification was detected by mass spectrometry and dot blotting assay. The expression of YTHDC2 was investigated using The Cancer Genome Atlas and using real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), western blotting, and immunohistochemistry based on CRC tissues. Kaplan–Meier analysis and Cox proportional hazards regression were performed to analyze the prognostic value of YTHDC2. RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP)-seq and m6A immunoprecipitation (MeRIP)-seq were used to explore the direct targets of YTHDC2. Gene oncology (GO) and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) were used to explore the pathways that could be influenced by YTHDC2. Results: No significant difference was observed in the global level of m6A modification on total RNA or mRNA between CRC and adjacent nontumor tissues. We further found a significant decreasing of YTHDC2 in CRC tissues. Kaplan–Meier analysis indicated that lower expression of YTHDC2 was related to the worse disease-free survival and overall survival. In addition, lower expression of YTHDC2 was an independent worse prognostic factor in univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis. Using YTHDC2-RIP-seq and MeRIP-seq, we identified that YTHDC2 could participate in several important biological signal pathways. Conclusions: In summary, this study suggested that the global level of m6A did not change in CRC and identified that lower YTHDC2 as a prognostic marker for worse survival of CRC.

Helicobacter pylori is a major cause of gastric diseases, but the standard therapy is limited by continuously decreased therapeutic efficacy and side effects to symbiotic bacteria. Here, the authors develop a pH-responsive graphitic nanozyme that is active under low pH gastric conditions, but inactive in intestines, for selective treatment of H. pylori infections.

BackgroundRegorafenib improves progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) in patients with refractory metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). Here, we report the treatment patterns of regorafenib in the third- or late-line setting for mCRC in four centers in China.Patients and MethodsPatients with refractory mCRC in four centers in China administered regorafenib from February 1, 2018 to June 31, 2021 were enrolled. Patients were grouped into 3 cohorts, namely, the monotherapy (regorafenib alone), chemo (regorafenib plus chemotherapy), and immune [regorafenib plus anti-PD1 (programmed cell death 1) antibodies] groups. Demographic, clinical, survival and safety data were retrospectively analyzed.ResultsA total of 177 patients were included in this study. Of them, 116 (65.5%) were treated with regorafenib alone, while 28 (15.9%) and 33 (18.6%) were administered regorafenib plus chemotherapy and anti-PD1 antibodies, respectively. The median followed-up time was 9.2 months. The disease control rate (DCR) was 40.7%. The median PFS (mPFS) was 2.43 months and the median OS (mOS) was 12.2 months. The immune group had longer median PFS (3.5 m vs. 2.2 m, p = 0.043) compared with the monotherapy group. Patients administered regorafenib plus chemotherapy had longer median OS (15.9 m vs. 8.4 m, p = 0.032) compared with the monotherapy group. Abstract Backgrounds Cancer-related mortality in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) is predominantly caused by development of colorectal liver metastases (CLMs). How to screen the sensitive chemotherapy and targeted therapy is the key element to improve the prognosis of CLMs patients. The study aims to develop patient-derived organoids-based xenografted liver metastases (PDOX-LM) model of CRC, to recapitulate the clinical drug response. Methods We transplanted human CRC primary tumor derived organoids in murine spleen to obtain xenografted liver metastases in murine liver. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining, whole-exome and RNA sequencing, and drug response testing were utilized to identify the homogeneity in biological and genetic characteristics, and drug response between the PDOX-LM models and donor liver metastases. Results We successfully established PDOX-LM models from patients with CLMs. IHC staining showed that positive expression of CEA, Ki67, VEGF, FGFR2 in donor liver metastases were also well preserved in matched xenografted liver metastases. Whole-exon sequencing and transcriptome analysis showed that both xenografted and donor liver metastases were highly concordant in somatic variants (≥ 0.90 frequency of concordance) and co-expression of driver genes (Pearson’s correlation coefficient reach up to 0.99, P = 0.001). Furthermore, drug response testing showed that the PDOX-LM models can closely recapitulated the clinical response to mFOLFOX6 regiments. Conclusions This PDOX-LM model provides a more convenient and informative platform for preclinical testing of individual tumors by retaining the histologic and genetic features of donor liver metastases. This technology holds great promise to predict treatment sensitivity for patients with CLMs undergoing chemotherapy.

As an important basis of clinical diagnosis, the morphology of retinal vessels is very useful for the early diagnosis of some eye diseases. In recent years, with the rapid development of deep learning technology, automatic segmentation methods based on it have made considerable progresses in the field of retinal blood vessel segmentation. However, due to the complexity of vessel structure and the poor quality of some images, retinal vessel segmentation, especially the segmentation of Capillaries, is still a challenging task. In this work, we propose a new retinal blood vessel segmentation method, called multi-feature segmentation, based on collaborative patches. First, we design a new collaborative patch training method which effectively compensates for the pixel information loss in the patch extraction through information transmission between collaborative patches. Additionally, the collaborative patch training strategy can simultaneously have the characteristics of low occupancy, easy structure and high accuracy. Then, we design a multi-feature network to gather a variety of information features. The hierarchical network structure, together with the integration of the adaptive coordinate attention module and the gated self-attention module, enables these rich information features to be used for segmentation. Finally, we evaluate the proposed method on two public datasets, namely DRIVE and STARE, and compare the results of our method with those of other nine advanced methods. The results show that our method outperforms other existing methods.

The ubiquitin (Ub)–proteasome system (UPS) is an important regulatory component in colorectal cancer (CRC), and the cell cycle is also characterized to play a significant role in CRC. In this present study, we firstly identified UPS-associated differentially expressed genes and all the differentially expressed protein-coding genes in CRC through three differential analyses. UPS-associated genes were also further analyzed via survival analysis. A weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was used to identify the cell cycle-associated genes. We used protein–protein interaction (PPI) network to comprehensively mine the potential mechanism of the UPS–cell cycle regulatory axis. Moreover, we constructed a signature based on UPS-associated genes to predict the overall survival of CRC patients. Our research provides a novel insight view of the UPS and cell cycle system in CRC.

The (Pt/YSZ)/YSZ sensor unit is the basic component of the NOx sensor, which can detect the emission of nitrogen oxides in exhaust fumes and optimize the fuel combustion process. In this work, the effect of sintering temperature on adhesion property and electrochemical activity of Pt/YSZ electrode was investigated. Pt/YSZ electrodes were prepared at different sintering temperatures. The microstructure of the Pt/YSZ electrodes, as well as the interface between Pt/YSZ electrode and YSZ electrolyte, were observed by SEM. Chronoamperometry, linear scan voltammetry, and AC impedance were tested by the electrochemical workstation. The results show that increasing the sintering temperature (≤1500 °C) helped to improve adhesion property and electrochemical activity of the Pt/YSZ electrode, which benefited from the formation of the porous structure of the Pt/YSZ electrode. For the (Pt/YSZ) electrode/YSZ electrolyte system, O2− in YSZ is converted into chemisorbed O2 on Pt/YSZ, which is desorbed into the gas phase in the form of molecular oxygen; this process could be the rate-controlling step of the anodic reaction. Increasing the sintering temperature (≤1500 °C) could reduce the reaction activation energy of the Pt/YSZ electrode. The activation energy reaches the minimum value (1.02 eV) when the sintering temperature is 1500 °C.

Colorectal cancer is a major cause of death worldwide, and the identification of new diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers is crucial to develop new strategies to avoid colorectal cancer-related deaths. Small nuclear ribonucleoprotein polypeptide N (SNRPN) is an imprinted gene that plays an important role in various neurodevelopmental disabilities. In this study, SNRPN was highly expressed in colorectal cancer tissues and involved in the progression of this disease. Immunohistochemistry analysis of 1,310 colorectal cancer tissue samples showed that SNRPN highly expressed in cancer tissues than in adjacent tissues and was mainly localized in the nucleus. Clinical pathological factor analysis demonstrated that higher expression of SNRPN was significantly associated with larger tumor size, location of the tumor on the left-sided colon, neural invasion, and distant metastasis. Univariate and multivariate analyses showed that SNRPN expression was an independent risk factor for survival, with high expression levels indicating worse overall survival. Both in vitro and in vivo experiments confirmed that high expression of SNRPN was associated with tumor proliferation, cell cycle, and metastasis. Knocking down SNRPN blocked the cell cycle at the G2/M phase transition and promoted tumor cell apoptosis, inhibiting the progression of colorectal cancer. To explore the up-steam of SNRPN, we found by luciferase reporter assay and chromosomal immunoprecipitation assay that E2F8 was a transcriptional regulator up-steam of SNRPN in colorectal cancer. Systematic studies of SNRPN will help us discover new regulatory molecules and provide a theoretical basis for finding new molecular targets for this disease.

Establishing a symmetrical model of surrounding vehicles and accurately obtaining the driving state of the surrounding vehicles in the driving environment can improve the safety of driving, which is an important issue that needs to be considered in the automatic driving system or auxiliary driving system. Therefore, we propose an adaptive unscented Kalman filter algorithm based on Interacting Multiple Model (IMM) theory to estimate the state of target vehicle in the high-speed driving environment. To be specific, we use the Constant Turn Rate and Acceleration (CTRA) theory to establish the target vehicle kinematics model, simultaneously, in order to overcome the problem of estimator failure when the yaw rate is close to zero, a simplified version of the CTRA model is also introduced into the estimation process. In addition, the parameter adaptation strategy is added, so the proposed estimator can overcome the uncertainty of the noise model and improve its accuracy. Finally, the effectiveness of proposed state estimation algorithm is verified on the Carsim and Simulink co-simulation platform. The results of simulations and experiments show that the accuracy and stability of IMM-based algorithm is better than the single-model algorithm in different scenarios, and the parameter adaptation strategy brings performance improvement.

Abstract Perovskite solar cells with TiO2 electron transport layers exhibit power conversion efficiency (PCE) as high as 22.7% in single cells. However, the preparation process of the TiO2 layer is adopted by an unscalable method or requires high-temperature sintering, which precludes its potential use for mass production of flexible devices. In this study, a scalable low-temperature soft-cover-assisted hydrolysis (SAH) method is presented, where the precursor solution is sandwiched between a soft cover and preheated substrate to form a closed hydrolysis environment. Compact homogeneous TiO2 films with a needle-like structure were obtained after the hydrolysis of a TiCl4 aqueous solution. Moreover, by careful optimization of the TiO2 fabrication conditions, a high PCE of 14.01% could be achieved for a solar module (4 × 4 cm2) prepared using the SAH method. This method provides a novel approach for the efficient scale-up of the low-temperature TiO2 film growth for industrial applications.

Research on trajectory tracking is crucial for the development of autonomous vehicles. This paper presents a trajectory tracking scheme by utilizing model predictive control (MPC) and preview-follower theory (PFT), which includes a reference generation module and a MPC controller. The reference generation module could calculate reference lateral acceleration at the preview point by PFT to update state variables, and generate a reference yaw rate in each prediction point. Since the preview range is increased, PFT makes the calculation of yaw rate more accurate. Through physical constraints, the MPC controller can achieve the best tracking of the reference path. The MPC problem is formulated as a linear time-varying (LTV) MPC controller to achieve a predictive model from nonlinear vehicle dynamics to continuous online linearization. The MPC-PFT controller method performs well by increasing the effective length of the reference path. Compared with MPC and PFT controllers, the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method are proved by simulations of two typical working conditions.

Currently, no published studies have compared the clinical outcomes of the medial-to-lateral approach (MA) and lateral-to-medial approach (LA) for open right hemicolectomy. Thus, the present study aimed to assess whether one of these approaches has any potential benefits over the other.A retrospective study was performed of all patients who underwent open right hemicolectomy with pathologically confirmed disease who met the eligibility criteria between June 2008 and June 2012. The population was divided into an MA group and an LA group by propensity scoring. We compared patient demographic and clinical characteristic variables between the two groups and assessed short-term and long-term outcomes.A total of 450 patients (MA, n = 150; LA, n = 300) were evaluated. The operation time (MA,138.4 minutesvs.LA,166.2 minutes; P < .05) and blood loss (MA,52.0mL vs. LA,62.6mL; P < .05)were significantly lower in the MA group. No differences in the number of harvested lymph nodes and oncologic outcomes were observed between the two groups. Further subgroup analysis for stage III colon cancer revealed that the MA group had significantly more retrieved lymph nodes (MA,18.8vs. LA,16.0; P = .028). There were no differences in other variables between the two groups.The MA reduced operative time and blood loss compared with the LA. We thus concluded that the MA provided short-term benefits compared with the LA in open right hemicolectomy for right-sided colon cancer.

Entanglement in a soft condensed matter system is enabled in the form of entangled disclination lines by using colloidal particles in nematic liquid crystals. These topological excitations are manifested as colloidal entanglement at equilibrium. How to further utilize nonequilibrium disclination lines to manipulate colloidal entanglement remains a nontrivial and challenging task. In this work, we use experiments and simulations to demonstrate the reconfigurations of nematic colloidal entanglement in light-driven spatiotemporal evolutions of disclination lines. Colloidal entanglement can sense subtle changes in the topological structures of disclination lines and realize chirality conversion. This conversion is manifested as the "domino effect" of the collective rotation of colloids in the disclination lines. By programming the topological patterns and the geometry of the disclination lines, colloidal entanglement can be assembled and split. More remarkably, a double-helix entangled structure can be formed by controlling the changes in the morphology of the disclination lines. Thus, this work will provide opportunities to program colloidal composites for smart materials and micromachines. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
