ObjectivesWe explored the relationship between blood pressure variability (BPV) during craniotomy aneurysm clipping and short-term prognosis in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage to provide a new method to improve prognosis of these patients.MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed the differences between patient groups with favorable modified Rankin Scale (mRS ≤ 2) and unfavorable (mRS > 2) prognosis, and examined the association between intraoperative BPV and short-term prognosis.ResultsThe intraoperative maximum systolic blood pressure (SBPmax, p = 0.005) and the coefficient of variation of diastolic blood pressure (DBPCV, p = 0.029) were significantly higher in the favorable prognosis group. SBPmax (OR 0.88, 95%CI 0.80–0.98) and Neu% (OR 1.22, 95%CI 1.03–1.46) were independent influence factors on prognosis. Patients with higher standard deviations of SBP (82.7% vs. 56.7%; p = 0.030), DBP (82.7% vs. 56.7%; p = 0.030), and DBPCV (82.7% vs. 56.7%; p = 0.030) had more favorable prognosis.ConclusionHigher SBPmax (≤180 mmHg) during the clipping is an independent protective factor for a 90-day prognosis. These results highlight the importance of blood pressure (BP) control for improved prognosis; higher short-term BPV during clipping may be a precondition for a favorable prognosis.

The CO2 corrosion behaviour of X65 carbon steel under water-in-oil droplet and oil-in-water droplet was systematically investigated by a combination of scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, NPFLex3D and COMSOL simulation. Under the water-in-oil droplet, the formation of crystalline FeCO3 can be contributed to the high concentration of Fe2+ and CO32-, and the short diffusion path near the droplet edge promotes FeCO3 precipitation. Under the oil-in-water droplet, corrosion islands caused by the invasion of water can be found, indicating that the small water droplets emphasised the development of localized corrosion underneath the oil droplet.

Abstract Itinerant kagome lattice magnets exhibit many novel correlated and topological quantum electronic states with broken time-reversal symmetry. Superconductivity, however, has not been observed in this class of materials, presenting a roadblock in a promising path toward topological superconductivity. Here, we report that novel superconductivity can emerge at the interface of kagome Chern magnet TbMn6Sn6 and metal heterostructures when elemental metallic thin films are deposited on either the top (001) surface or the side surfaces. Superconductivity is also successfully induced and systematically studied by using various types of metallic tips on different TbMn6Sn6 surfaces in point-contact measurements. The anisotropy of the superconducting upper critical field suggests that the emergent superconductivity is quasi-two-dimensional. Remarkably, the interface superconductor couples to the magnetic order of the kagome metal and exhibits a hysteretic magnetoresistance in the superconducting states. Taking into account the spin-orbit coupling, the observed interface superconductivity can be a surprising and more realistic realization of the p-wave topological superconductors theoretically proposed for two-dimensional semiconductors proximity-coupled to s-wave superconductors and insulating ferromagnets. Our findings of robust superconductivity in topological-Chern-magnet/metal heterostructures offer a new direction for investigating spin-triplet pairing and topological superconductivity.

Abstract Background Ulcerative colitis (UC) represents a clinically challenging condition characterized by persistent damage to the colonic epithelial mucosa as the principal pathological feature. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) solution, primarily composed of glue, is a biodegradable polymer material that has found utility in the medical field. This research endeavors to investigate the therapeutic potential of PVA water solution in ameliorating UC in mice. Methods UC was induced in 48 C57BL/6 mice by administering 2.5% DSS in their diet for 6 days. Mice were treated with different concentrations of PVA (0.1 mg/ml PVA, 0.3 mg/ml PVA, 1 mg/ml PVA, 3 mg/ml PVA, 10 mg/ml PVA) enemas (n = 6). Disease Activity Index (DAI) and histologic score were evaluated for inflammation degree. Furthermore, mouse colon organoids were cultured, which were used to assess the effects of PVA on expansion in vitro. Results PVA aqueous solutions (1 mg/ml and 3 mg/ml) were able to alleviate the DAI in mice. By DAY 6, there was a significant 3/5-fold decrease in DAI within the 1 mg/ml PVA group (p = 0.02). Histopathology scores demonstrated improvements, while the levels of inflammatory factors in the intestinal mucosal tissue were reduced. Additionally, it was confirmed that PVA could promote the expansion of colonic organoids in vitro. Conclusions In summary, our investigation has yielded findings indicating that PVA holds the potential to ameliorate symptoms associated with colitis in murine subjects afflicted by DSS-induced colitis, primarily through its facilitation of intestinal stem cell expansion. This study might provide a new candidate for the clinical treatment of ulcerative colitis.

Abstract Background Aberrant somatic genomic alteration including copy number amplification is a hallmark of cancer genomes. We previously profiled genomic landscapes of prostate cancer (PCa), yet the underlying causal genes with prognostic potential has not been defined. It remains unclear how a somatic genomic event cooperates with inherited germline variants contribute to cancer predisposition and progression. Methods We applied integrated genomic and clinical data, experimental models and bioinformatic analysis to identify GATA2 as a highly prevalent metastasis-associated genomic amplification in PCa. Biological roles of GATA2 in PCa metastasis was determined in vitro and in vivo. Global chromatin co-occupancy and co-regulation of GATA2 and SMAD4 was investigated by coimmunoprecipitation, ChIP-seq and RNA-seq assays. Tumor cellular assays, qRT-PCR, western blot, ChIP, luciferase assays and CRISPR-Cas9 editing methods were performed to mechanistically understand the cooperation of GATA2 with SMAD4 in promoting TGFβ1 and AR signaling and mediating inherited PCa risk and progression. Results In this study, by integrated genomics and experimental analysis, we identified GATA2 as a prevalent metastasis-associated genomic amplification to transcriptionally augment its own expression in PCa. Functional experiments demonstrated that GATA2 physically interacted and cooperated with SMAD4 for genome-wide chromatin co-occupancy and co-regulation of PCa genes and metastasis pathways like TGFβ signaling. Mechanistically, GATA2 was cooperative with SMAD4 to enhance TGFβ and AR signaling pathways, and activated the expression of TGFβ1 via directly binding to a distal enhancer of TGFβ1. Strinkingly, GATA2 and SMAD4 globally mediated inherited PCa risk and formed a transcriptional complex with HOXB13 at the PCa risk-associated rs339331/6q22 enhancer, leading to increased expression of the PCa susceptibility gene RFX6. Conclusions Our study prioritizes causal genomic amplification genes with prognostic values in PCa and reveals the pivotal roles of GATA2 in transcriptionally activating the expression of its own and TGFβ1, thereby co-opting to TGFβ1/SMAD4 signaling and RFX6 at 6q22 to modulate PCa predisposition and progression.

Abstract Ischemic insult stimulates proliferation of neural stem cells (NSCs) in the subventricular zone (SVZ) after stroke. However, only a fraction of NSC‐derived neuroblasts from SVZ migrate toward poststroke brain region. We have previously reported that direct‐current stimulation guides NSC migration toward the cathode in vitro. Accordingly, we set up a new method of transcranial direct‐current stimulation (tDCS), in which the cathodal electrode is placed on the ischemic hemisphere and anodal electrode on the contralateral hemisphere of rats subjected to ischemia–reperfusion injury. We show that the application of this bilateral tDCS (BtDCS) promotes the migration of NSC‐derived neuroblasts from SVZ toward the cathode direction into poststroke striatum. Reversing the position of the electrodes blocks the effect of BtDCS on the migration of neuroblasts from SVZ. BtDCS protects against neuronal death and improves the functional recovery of stroke animals. Thus, the migration of NSC‐derived neuroblasts from SVZ toward poststroke brain region contributes to the effect of BtDCS against ischemia‐induced neuronal death, supporting a potential development of noninvasive BtDCS as an endogenous neurogenesis‐based stroke therapy.

Abstract The ability of natural plants to treat chronic diseases is closely related to their antioxidant function. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) fermentation is an effective way to improve the nutritional value, biological activity and flavor of food. This study investigated the pH, titratable acidity, total polysaccharide, total flavone, total saponin, total polyphenol, and antioxidant activity of the FH06 beverage before and after probiotic fermentation. Results: After fermentation, FH06 had lower contents of total polysaccharides, total flavonoids, total saponins and total polyphenols but higher titratable acidity. Abstract The study on quantum spin Hall effect and topological insulators formed the prologue to the surge of research activities in topological materials in the past decade. Compared to intricately engineered quantum wells, three-dimensional weak topological insulators provide a natural route to the quantum spin Hall effect, due to the adiabatic connection between them and a stack of quantum spin Hall insulators, and the convenience in exfoliation of samples associated with their van der Waals-type structure. Despite these advantages, both theoretical prediction and experimental identification of weak topological insulators remain scarce. Here, based on first-principles calculations, we show that AuTe2Br locates at the boundary between a strong and a weak topological semimetal state. We identify the key structural parameter that dictates the traversal of the topological transition, which can be easily realized in experiments. More interestingly, the critical topology of AuTe2Br persists up to an applied pressure of ~15.4 GPa before a structural phase transition accompanied by a change of electronic topology and the onset of superconductivity. Our results establish AuTe2Br as a new candidate for an effective tuning between weak and strong topological phases in a single material, with the potential to realize various other topological phases of matter.

In this study, all-inorganic perovskite quantum dots (QDs) for pure blue emission are explored for full-color displays. We prepared CsPbBr3 and Cs3NdCl6 QDs via hot injection methods and mixed in various ratios at room temperature for color blending. Nd-doped CsPb(Cl/Br)3 QDs showed a blueshift in emission, and the photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQY, ΦPL) were lower in the 460–470 nm range due to surface halogen and Cs vacancies. To address this, we introduced a silane molecule, APTMS, via a ligand exchange process, effectively repairing these vacancies and enhancing Nd doping into the lattice. This modification promotes the PLQY to 94% at 466 nm. Furthermore, combining these QDs with [1]Benzothieno[3,2-b][1]benzothiophene (BTBT), a conjugated small-molecule semiconductor, in a composite film reduced PLQY loss caused by FRET in solid-state QD films. This approach achieved a wide color gamut of 124% National Television System Committee (NTSC), using a UV LED backlight and RGB perovskite QDs in a BTBT-based organic matrix as the color conversion layer. Significantly, the photostability of this composite was enhanced when used as a color conversion layer (CCL) under blue-LED excitation.

In this study, lactic acid bacteria (LAB) fermentation and β-galactosidase catalysis methods were combined to increase the lactulose concentration and reduce the galactose and lactose content in a hot-alkaline-based system. The optimal conditions for chemical isomerization were 70 °C for 50 min for lactulose production, in which the concentration of lactulose was 31.3 ± 1.2%. Then, the selection and identification of LAB, which can utilize lactose and cannot affect lactulose content, were determined from 451 strains in the laboratory. It was found that Lactobacillus salivarius TM-2–8 had weak lactulose utilization and more robust lactose utilization. Lactobacillus rhamnosus grx.21 was weak in terms of lactulose utilization and strong in terms of galactose utilization. These two strains fermented the chemical isomerization system of lactulose to reduce the content of lactose and galactose. The results showed that the lactose concentration was 48.96 ± 2.92 g/L and the lactulose concentration was 59.73 ± 1. 8 g/L for fermentation lasting 18 h. The β-galactosidase was used to increase the content of lactulose in the fermented system at this time. The highest concentration of 74.89 ± 1.68 g/L lactulose was obtained at an enzymatic concentration of 3 U/mL and catalyzed at 50 °C for 3 h by β-galactosidase.

The use of Diagnosis-Related Groups (DRG) is a prevalent payment system employed to control hospitalization costs and improve medical efficiency. China has developed an indigenized DRG payment system including Single Disease Payment (SDP), DRGs, and Big Data Diagnosis-Intervention Packet (DIP). In this study, we took cholecystitis as an example, drawing on both primary and secondary data to verify the effectiveness of China’s indigenized DRG system and to introduce the evolution of DRGs in China. Primary data were gathered from Qilu Hospital in 2019–2021. Secondary data were collected from published literature from 2004–2016. Only studies with both pre-SDP/DRG and post-SDP/DRG groups were included. Among the studies included, 92.9% (13/14) reported a significant reduction in hospitalization costs after the implementation of SDP while other studies identified length of stay (LOS) and age as the most significant influential factors in SDP. Furthermore, we elaborated the efficiency of DRGs using data from 2738 inpatients in Qilu hospital. Moreover, 60% (6/10) of the studies from the databases also showed the efficiency of DRGs in different regions. SDP is efficient in saving hospitalization costs, but its implementation is limited. DRGs have a broader scope of application, but their effectiveness remains to be validated. DIP is a brand new concept in China, and more data are needed to assess its efficiency.

Resin content of composites is a dominant factor of macroscopic properties and essential to study. Taking carbon fiber/poly (ether ether ketone) (CF/PEEK) composites molded by various means as examples, a method for resin content calculation obtained along with thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) for thermal properties analyzation was introduced. According to results of resin mass contents, TGA curves and differential thermogravimetric analysis (DTG) curves were divided to four stages, including non-decomposition stage of 25–500 °C, rapid decomposition stage of 500–600 °C, transitional stage of 600–700 °C and the stable stage of 700–800 °C. And resin contents were accurate obtained from the transitional stage and stable stage. Results tested by acid digestion method, ignition loss method and TGA methods were compared and it was proved that the TGA method was suitable for resin fraction calculation with a slight difference below 3% compared to results from the other two methods. By comparing results of different composites, we found that TGA methods can also be applied to other composites including reinforcements not disintegrate such as graphite, carbon nanotubes and matrix of thermosetting and thermoplastic decompose under inert gas in testing condition.

Utilizing large-scale epigenomics data, deep learning tools can predict the regulatory activity of genomic sequences, annotate non-coding genetic variants, and uncover mechanisms behind complex traits. However, these tools primarily rely on human or mouse data for training, limiting their performance when applied to other species. Furthermore, the limited exploration of many species, particularly in the case of livestock, has led to a scarcity of comprehensive and high-quality epigenetic data, posing challenges in developing reliable deep learning models for decoding their non-coding genomes. The cross-species prediction of the regulatory genome can be achieved by leveraging publicly available data from extensively studied organisms and making use of the conserved DNA binding preferences of transcription factors within the same tissue. In this study, we introduced DeepSATA, a novel deep learning-based sequence analyzer that incorporates the transcription factor binding affinity for the cross-species prediction of chromatin accessibility. By applying DeepSATA to analyze the genomes of pigs, chickens, cattle, humans, and mice, we demonstrated its ability to improve the prediction accuracy of chromatin accessibility and achieve reliable cross-species predictions in animals. Additionally, we showcased its effectiveness in analyzing pig genetic variants associated with economic traits and in increasing the accuracy of genomic predictions. Overall, our study presents a valuable tool to explore the epigenomic landscape of various species and pinpoint regulatory deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) variants associated with complex traits.

Affected by the extreme geological hazards such as the fault and uneven ground settlement, pipelines are prone to produce large deformations. However, the large strain monitoring cannot be achieved with the existing strain sensing technology due to its insufficient measuring range. Thus, the method of monitoring the large strain of crossing-fault pipelines with Coaxial Cable Fabry-Perot Interferometer (CCFPI) sensors was proposed herein. Definitely, the sensing principle and manufacturing method of CCFPI sensors were briefly introduced, and with the help of a self-made buried crossing-fault pipeline test device, the packaging and deployment methods of CCFPI sensors to match the buried pipelines were studied.Additionally, the rationality and effectiveness of applying CCFPI sensors to the large strain monitoring of buried crossingfault pipelines was verified through the simulation test. The research results show that the measured strain value of the CCFPI sensor and the optical fiber sensor agrees well when the fault displacement is less than 165 mm. However, when the fault displacement is greater than 165 mm, the fiber breaks due to out-of-range, but the CCFPI sensor can monitor the strain of the pipeline continuously, and a strain of 0.081 36 is measured by the CCFPI sensor at a fault displacement of 300 mm, which verifies the rationality and reliability of applying the CCFPI sensors to large strain monitoring of buried crossing-fault pipelines.

Polo‐like kinase 4 (PLK4) has been reported to contribute to tumor growth, invasion, and metastasis. However, the role of PLK4 in human bladder cancer (BC) remains unclear. Here, we demonstrate the regulatory function of PLK4 in human BC progression. PLK4 is overexpressed in BC cell lines and tissues, and its overexpression correlated with poor prognosis. Our transcriptome analysis combined with subsequent functional assays indicated that PLK4 inhibition can suppress BC cell growth and induce cell cycle arrest at G1 phase via activation of the p38/p53/p21 pathway in vitro and in vivo. Overall, our data suggest that PLK4 is a critical regulator of BC cell proliferation, and thus, it may have potential as a novel molecular target for BC treatment.

Vehicle target detection is a key technology for reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). However, in order to obtain a larger reconnaissance field of view, this type of UAV generally flies at a higher altitude, resulting in a relatively small proportion of vehicle targets in its imaging images. Moreover, due to the unique nature of the mission, previously unseen vehicle types are prone to appearing in the surveillance area. Additionally, it is challenging for large-scale detectors based on deep learning to achieve real-time performance on UAV computing equipment. To address these problems, we propose a vehicle object detector specifically designed for UAVs in this paper. We have made modifications to the backbone of Faster R-CNN based on the target and scene characteristics. We have improved the positioning accuracy of small-scale imaging targets by adjusting the size and ratio of anchors. Furthermore, we have introduced a postprocessing method for out-of-distribution detection, enabling the designed detector to detect and distinguish untrained vehicle types. Additionally, to tackle the scarcity of reconnaissance images, we have constructed two datasets using modeling and image rendering techniques. We have evaluated our method on these constructed datasets. The proposed method achieves a 96% mean Average Precision at IoU threshold 0.5 (mAP50) on trained objects and a 71% mAP50 on untrained objects. Equivalent flight experiments demonstrate that our model, trained on synthetic data, can achieve satisfactory detection performance and computational efficiency in practical applications.

Background: Wound treatment in emergency care requires the rapid assessment of wound size by medical staff. Limited medical resources and the empirical assessment of wounds can delay the treatment of patients, and manual contact measurement methods are often inaccurate and susceptible to wound infection. This study aimed to prepare an Automatic Wound Segmentation Assessment (AWSA) framework for real-time wound segmentation and automatic wound region estimation. Methods: This method comprised a short-term dense concatenate classification network (STDC-Net) as the backbone, realizing a segmentation accuracy–prediction speed trade-off. A coordinated attention mechanism was introduced to further improve the network segmentation performance. A functional relationship model between prior graphics pixels and shooting heights was constructed to achieve wound area measurement. Finally, extensive experiments on two types of wound datasets were conducted. Results: The experimental results showed that real-time AWSA outperformed state-of-the-art methods such as mAP, mIoU, recall, and dice score. The AUC value, which reflected the comprehensive segmentation ability, also reached the highest level of about 99.5%. The FPS values of our proposed segmentation method in the two datasets were 100.08 and 102.11, respectively, which were about 42% higher than those of the second-ranked method, reflecting better real-time performance. Moreover, real-time AWSA could automatically estimate the wound area in square centimeters with a relative error of only about 3.1%. Conclusion: The real-time AWSA method used the STDC-Net classification network as its backbone and improved the network processing speed while accurately segmenting the wound, realizing a segmentation accuracy–prediction speed trade-off.

Bagasse is the residue after juicing sugarcane, and bagasse is a recyclable biological resource that can be used in many ways. Under arid climatic conditions, the clay material shrinks and loses water. Many crisscross drying shrinkage cracks formed on the surface and inside the soil will affect the stability of the soil. In this article, the cracking characteristics of clays with different bagasse contents during the evaporation process have been studied. The cracks were extracted and calculated by digital image processing technology, and the crack characteristics of samples with different bagasse contents were studied by fractal dimension and crack entropy. The results show that when moisture content maintains 34%, the clay material forms only one main crack without bagasse, forms no crack with bagasse content of 9%, and forms a crack network with the bagasse content of 3%. Adding bagasse to the clay can advance the cracking time of the clay, and different contents of bagasse have different effects on the cracking time of the clay. Among these five experimental groups, the clay was affected the most with 3% bagasse content, while the least effect happened with 6% bagasse content. The time can be advanced when the clay crack entropy appears and increases the size of the crack entropy.

Purpose Postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) is one of systemic bone degenerative diseases characterised by decreased bone mineral density (BMD). Previous studies suggest that the SPON1 gene may be associated with BMD and play an important role in the occurrence and development of PMOP. In this study, we aimed to investigate the potential association between PMOP and the SPON1 gene.Methods A total of 8062 postmenopausal women comprising 2684 primary PMOP patients, and 5378 healthy controls were recruited. Forty tag SNPs were selected for genotyping to evaluate the association of the SPON1 gene with PMOP and BMD. Genetic association and bioinformatics analyses were performed for PMOP.Results SNP rs2697825 was identified to be significantly associated with the risk of PMOP at both allelic (T-statistics = −3.84, p = .0001) and genotypic levels (χ2=15.86, p = .0004). The G allele of SNP rs2697825 was significantly associated with a decreased risk of PMOP with an OR [95%] of 0.84 [0.77–0.92]. The G allele of SNP rs2697825 was associated with increased BMD at both the lumbar spine and femoral neck.Conclusions Our results provide further evidence to support the important role for the SPON1 gene in the aetiology of PMOP, adding to the current understanding of the susceptibility to osteoporosis.

Abstract Background Glucosamine-6-phosphate N-acetyltransferase (GNA1) is the key enzyme that causes overproduction of N-acetylglucosamine in Bacillus subtilis. Previously, we increased GlcNAc production by promoting the expression of GNA1 from Caenorhabditis elegans (CeGNA1) in an engineered B. subtilis strain BSGN12. In this strain overflow metabolism to by-products acetoin and acetate had been blocked by mutations, however pyruvate accumulated as an overflow metabolite. Although overexpression of CeGNA1 drove carbon flux from pyruvate to the GlcNAc synthesis pathway and decreased pyruvate accumulation, the residual pyruvate reduced the intracellular pH, resulting in inhibited CeGNA1 activity and limited GlcNAc production. Results In this study, we attempted to further overcome pyruvate overflow by enzyme engineering and host engineering for enhanced GlcNAc production. To this end, the key enzyme CeGNA1 was evolved through error-prone PCR under pyruvate stress to enhance its catalytic activity. Then, the urease from Bacillus paralicheniformis was expressed intracellularly to neutralize the intracellular pH, making it more robust in growth and more efficient in GlcNAc production. It was found that the activity of mutant CeGNA1 increased by 11.5% at pH 6.5–7.5, with the catalytic efficiency increasing by 27.5% to 1.25 s−1 µM−1. Modulated expression of urease increased the intracellular pH from 6.0 to 6.8. The final engineered strain BSGN13 overcame pyruvate overflow, produced 25.6 g/L GlcNAc with a yield of 0.43 g GlcNAc/g glucose in a shake flask fermentation and produced 82.5 g/L GlcNAc with a yield of 0.39 g GlcNAc/g glucose by fed-batch fermentation, which was 1.7- and 1.2-times, respectively, of the yield achieved previously. Conclusions This study highlights a strategy that combines pathway enzyme engineering and host engineering to resolve overflow metabolism in B. subtilis for the overproduction of GlcNAc. By means of modulated expression of urease reduced pyruvate burden, conferred bacterial survival fitness, and enhanced GlcNAc production, all of which improved our understanding of co-regulation of cell growth and metabolism to construct more efficient B. subtilis cell factories.

Obesity is a common global problem. There are many fat-reducing herbal prescriptions in traditional Chinese medicine that have been proven to be safe and functional during long-term application. Microbial fermentation can improve the efficacy of herbal medicine and improve the unsavory flavor. In this study, Shenheling extract (SHLE) composed of six medicine food homology materials was used as the research object. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of Lactobacillusfermentum grx08 fermentation on the antiobesity efficacy and flavor of SHLE. We found that L. fermentum grx08 grew well in SHLE. After 72 h of fermentation, the total polysaccharides, total flavonoids, total polyphenols and total saponins of SHLE decreased, but the lipase inhibitory activity and total antioxidant capacity (FRAP) were significantly increased (p < 0.01). There were no significant differences in the α-glucosidase inhibition rate and DPPH· clearance rate before or after fermentation (p > 0.05). In addition, the fermentation reduces the unpleasant flavors of SHLE such as bitterness and grassy and cassia flavors. This study demonstrates that SHLE fermented by L. fermentum grx08 improved some anti-obesity functions and improved the unpleasant flavor.

Desiccation cracks form on the surface of foundation soils due to matric suction and surface shrinkage with water loss. This paper investigates the effect of tea waste on the change of water content and cracking characteristics of foundation soil during drying. Digital image processing was carried out based on laboratory experiments. The characteristics are monitored with a variation in water content. The effects of different amounts of tea waste on soil drying and cracking were obtained, in order to provide an efficient and new green sustainable material for improving soil evaporation cracking under drought conditions. The results show that the development of cracks of soil samples with tea waste can be categorized into three stages in accordance with the fractal dimension of the desiccation cracks: Stages I, II, and III. The desiccation cracks in Stage III are wider and longer than those in Stages I and II, however, the maximum fractal dimension and stability are also obtained in Stage III. The residual water content of the sample without tea waste is 1.5%. The residual water content of the samples containing 4% and 8% tea waste is 4.6% and 5.4%, respectively, which shows that the tea waste can effectively improve the residual water content of the foundation soil and the water holding capacity of the soil. The fractal dimension of cracks on the soil samples increases gradually with drying. The total length of cracks increases and the development of cracks is more complex. The cracking time of soil samples with different tea waste contents is different. The soil samples with 8% tea waste content crack first. Combined with the variation characteristics of water content, tea waste has water absorption and improves the water holding capacity and stability of foundation soil.

We report the crystal and electronic structures of a noncentrosymmetric quasi-two-dimensional (2D) candidate of topological semimetal AuTe2Br. The Fermi surface of this layered compound consists of 2D-like, topological trivial electron and nontrivial hole pockets, which host a Dirac cone along the kz direction. Our transport measurements on the single crystals show highly anisotropic, compensated low-density electrons and holes, both of which exhibit ultrahigh mobility at a level of 105 cm2 V−1 s−1 at low temperature. The highly mobile, compensated carriers lead a nonsaturated, parabolic magnetoresistance as large as 3 × 105 in single-crystalline AuTe2Br in a magnetic field up to 58 T.

Reducing the size of an accelerometer overcomes the tradeoff between its sensitivity and resonant frequency, and the theoretical relationships are analyzed. A fiber Bragg grating (FBG) accelerometer with the shortest vibration arm, 7 mm, among FBG accelerometers using the optical fiber to hold its inertial object is demonstrated here. The inertial object was 4.41 g. The experimental crest-to-trough sensitivity and resonant frequency, 244 pm/g and 90 Hz, disagree with the theoretical values, 633 pm/g and 67 Hz, perhaps due to the friction between the inertial object and shell. In order to find the theoretical values, a method to find the pre-stretch of the FBG is also presented here, based on the stretch of the FBG at equilibrium and the mass of the inertial object. The HMGA2 (high-mobility group AT-hook) protein has previously been shown as an oncoprotein, whereas ectopic expression of HMGA2 is found to induce growth arrest in primary cells. The precise mechanisms underlying this phenomenon remain to be unravelled. In the present study, we determined that HMGA2 was able to induce apoptosis in WI38 primary human cells. We show that WI38 cells expressing high level of HMGA2 were arrested at G2/M phase and exhibited apoptotic nuclear phenotypes. Meanwhile, the cleaved caspase 3 (cysteine aspartic acid-specific protease 3) was detected 8 days after HMGA2 overexpression. Flow cytometric analysis confirmed that the ratio of cells undergoing apoptosis increased dramatically. Concurrently, other major apoptotic markers were also detected, including the up-regulation of p53, Bax and cleaved caspase 9, down-regulation of Bcl-2; as well as release of cytochrome c from the mitochondria. We further demonstrate that the shRNA (small-hairpin RNA)-mediated Apaf1 (apoptotic protease activating factor 1) silencing partially rescued the HMGA2-induced apoptosis, which was accompanied by the decrease of cleaved caspase-3 level and a decline of cell death ratio. Our results also reveal that γH2A was accumulated in nuclei during the HMGA2-induced apoptosis along with the up-regulation of cleaved caspase 2, suggesting that the HMGA2-induced apoptosis was dependent on the pathway of DNA damage. Overall, the present study unravelled a novel function of HMGA2 in induction of apoptosis in human primary cell lines, and provided clues for clarification of the mechanistic action of HMGA2 in addition to its function as an oncoprotein.

Shear thickening fluid (STF), carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are both promising in body protection and anti-impact for the drastic viscosity change of STF and the extremely high tensile strength and elongation of CNTs. The excellent performance of the above two combined with traditional Kevlar fabrics can significantly improve the mechanical properties and reduce the number of layers used for body protection. This work reports a new method to prepare STF/CNTs/Kevlar with excellent tensile properties and anti-impact performance by spraying method with 1 wt% polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) solution as a binder for better integration between CNTs and Kevlar. Surface morphology changes in the preparation process indicate the combined structure of PVA binder, CNTs, and STF, presenting a uniform macroscopic and nonuniform microscopic surface of STF/CNTs/Kevlar composite. The tensile strength and anti-impact properties including punch residual velocity and energy absorbed were studied and results for STF/CNTs/Kevlar composite are 669.8 ± 18.1 MPa, 1.602 ± 0.045 m/s, and 21.683 ± 1.182 J in 12 ms, increased by 46.4%, 23.0%, and 240.2%, respectively, compared with neat Kevlar, owing to the improved tight bonding and friction between fabrics yarns caused by PVA adhesive and tangled CNTs, accompanied with the enhanced viscosity of STF under forces. In a cloud manufacturing environment with abundant functionally equivalent cloud services, users naturally desire the highest-quality service(s). Thus, a comprehensive measurement of quality of service (QoS) is needed. Optimizing the plethora of cloud services has thus become a top priority. Cloud service optimization is negatively affected by untrusted QoS data, which are inevitably provided by some users. To resolve these problems, this paper proposes a QoS-aware cloud service optimization model and establishes QoS-information awareness and quantification mechanisms. Untrusted data are assessed by an information correction method. The weights discovered by the variable precision Rough Set, which mined the evaluation indicators from historical data, providing a comprehensive performance ranking of service quality. The manufacturing cloud service optimization algorithm thus provides a quantitative reference for service selection. In experimental simulations, this method recommended the optimal services that met users' needs, and effectively reduced the impact of dishonest users on the selection results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
