Since 2010, the Chinese economy has transitioned from a high-speed growth model to a high-quality development model. During this period, the logistics industry has witnessed rapid growth, leading to significant carbon emissions and posing severe threats to the ecological environment. To investigate the spatiotemporal variations in carbon emissions in China's logistics industry, we conducted a correlation analysis using Moran's I index and a bivariate spatial autocorrelation model from 2010 to 2021. Additionally, we employed a geographically and temporally weighted regression model （GTWR） to examine the spatial heterogeneity of factors influencing provincial-level logistics-related carbon emissions. The results indicated that over the study period, there was a shift from insignificant spatial relationships to significant positive spatial correlations among provincial-level logistics carbon emissions in China. Furthermore, varying degrees of spatial clustering were observed. The findings regarding factor heterogeneity revealed that freight turnover volume, per capita GDP of the logistics industry, and infrastructure level exhibited positive spatial correlations with logistics-related carbon emissions, whereas energy intensity showed negative spatial correlations with such emissions. Comparing the results from the geographically weighted regression （GWR） and ordinary least squares regression （OLS）, it was evident that the adjusted R-squared values for the OLS, GWR, and GTWR models were 0.541, 0.567, and 0.838, respectively. This suggests that our adopted GTWR model provided a superior fit and offered better explanations for spatiotemporal heterogeneity between various influencing factors and logistics-related carbon emissions. These research findings can serve as valuable references for formulating province-specific strategies to reduce carbon emissions within China's economy under its high-quality development context.

This study delves into the magneto-electronic and magneto-optical properties of stacking-modulated bilayer graphene. By manipulating domain walls (DWs) across AB-BA domains periodically, we unveil oscillatory Landau subbands and the associated optical excitations. The DWs act as periodic potentials, yielding fascinating 1D spectral features. Our exploration reveals 1D phenomena localized to Bernal stacking, DW regions, and stacking boundaries, highlighting the intriguing formation of Landau state quantization influenced by the commensuration between the magnetic length and the system. The stable quantized localization within different regions leads to the emergence of unconventional quantized subbands. This study provides valuable insights into the essential properties of stacking-modulated bilayer graphene.

The rapid development of society and economy has resulted in a substantial increase in energy consumption, consequently exacerbating pollution issues. Current research predominantly focuses on energy-saving and emission reduction in road transportation within individual cities or the three major economic regions of China:the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta, and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region. However, there is a dearth of studies addressing the southeastern coastal economic region. Located at the heart of China's southeastern coastal economic development, the provinces of Guangdong, Fujian, and Zhejiang unavoidably face challenges associated with energy consumption and emissions while pursuing economic growth. To address these challenges, this study employed a LEAP model to construct various scenarios for road transportation in the key coastal cities of Guangdong, Fujian, and Zhejiang from 2015 to 2035. These scenarios included a baseline scenario (BAU), an existing policy scenario (EPS), and an improved policy scenario (MPS). The MPS and EPS encompassed vehicle structure optimization (VSO), improved fuel economy (IFE), and reduced annual average mileage (RDM). By simulating and evaluating these scenarios, the energy-saving and emission reduction potentials of road transportation in the key coastal cities were assessed. The results indicated that, in the primary scenario, the MPS exhibited the most significant improvements in energy-saving, carbon reduction, and pollutant reduction effects. By 2035, the MPS achieved a remarkable 75% energy-saving rate compared to that in the baseline scenario, accompanied by reductions of 68%, 59%, 66%, 70%, and 64% in CO 2 , CO, NO x , PM 2.5 , and SO 2 emissions, respectively. In the secondary scenario, the improved scenario of enhancing fuel economy achieved a notable 30% reduction in energy consumption. Additionally, the scenarios involving vehicle structure adjustment (yielding reductions of 36%, 30%, 36%, 26%, and 40%) and annual average mileage reduction (resulting in reductions of 37%, 37%, 36%, 37%, and 36%) demonstrated significant reductions in CO 2 , CO, NO x , PM 2.5 , and SO 2 emissions.

Objectives: To identify and evaluate factors affecting the career preferences of fourth-year bachelor of pharmacy (BPharm) students in Malaysia in the presence of a 4-year period of mandatory government service., Methods: A validated self-administered questionnaire was used in this cross-sectional study to collect data from final-year BPharm students enrolled at 3 government-funded universities and 1 private university in Malaysia. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used for data analysis., Results: Three hundred fourteen students responded (213 from public universities and 101 from the private university). Approximately 32% of public university students and 37% of private university students ranked their own interest in pharmacy as the reason for undertaking pharmacy degree studies; 40.4% of public and 19.8% of private university respondents stated that they would enter a nonpharmacy-related career upon graduation if given the choice. Public university students ranked hospital pharmacy as their choice of first career setting (4.39, p = 0.001), while private students ranked community pharmacy first (4.1, p = 0.002). On a scale of 1 to 5, salary received the highest mean score (3.9 and 4.0, p = 0.854) as the extrinsic factor most influencing their career choice., Conclusions: Final-year students at Malaysian public universities were most interested in hospital pharmacy practice as their first career step upon graduation, while private university students were most interested in community pharmacy. The top 3 extrinsic factors rated as significant in selecting a career destination were salary, benefits, and geographical location.

Background: Interleukin 2 (IL-2) administration increases CD4 counts in persons with higher counts. This study investigated persons with moderately advanced human immunodeficiency virus infection receiving highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART)., Methods: Two hundred four patients with CD4 T-cell counts from 50/microL to 350/microL who were treatment naive or had been treated only with reverse transcriptase inhibitors began a specified protease inhibitor HAART regimen. Virologic responders (< or =5000 copies/mL) at 12 weeks were randomized to open-label continuous-infusion IL-2 (IV IL-2), subcutaneous IL-2 (SC IL-2), or HAART alone. Thirty were not randomized and 15 enrolled in a substudy, leaving 159 for analysis. Subjects continued HAART alone for 72 weeks (n = 52) or with IV IL-2 (n = 53) or SC IL-2 (n = 54) for 5 days every 8 weeks. The IV IL-2 subjects could switch to SC IL-2 if their CD4 T-cell count increased by 100/microL or by 25%., Results: Patients receiving IV or SC IL-2 had greater increases in CD4 cell counts. At week 84, median increases were 459/microL, 312/microL, and 102/microL. Increases of greater than 50% at week 60 (primary end point) were achieved in 39 patients (81%) and 32 (67%) in the IV and SC IL-2 arms, respectively, compared with 13 (29%) in the HAART arm (P<.001 for both). Treatment with IL-2 did not increase plasma human immunodeficiency virus RNA levels. There were fewer new AIDS-defining events in the IV (P = .006) and SC (P = .03) IL-2 groups than in the HAART group (0, 1, and 7, respectively). Drug-related adverse events were more frequent with IL-2 treatment., Conclusion: Addition of IL-2 to HAART can significantly expand CD4 T-cell counts in moderately advanced human immunodeficiency virus infection, without loss of virologic control.

Background: Although an intermittent antiviral treatment (ART) strategy may limit long-term toxicity and cost, there is concern about the risk for virologic failure, selection of drug resistance mutations, and disease progression. By boosting CD4 T-cell counts, interleukin 2 (IL-2) could safely prolong the duration of treatment interruption (TI) in a CD4-driven strategy., Methods: The AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) study A5102 evaluated 3 cycles of IL-2 before TI, on clinical and immunologic outcomes, using a CD4 T-cell count of <350 cells/mm as the threshold for restarting ART. Forty-seven HIV-infected subjects on potent ART with CD4 T-cell counts of > or =500 cells/mm or more and HIV RNA levels of less than 200 copies/mL were randomized to arm A (ART + three 5-day cycles of IL-2 at 4.5 million U, Sc, BID every 8 weeks, n = 23) or arm B (ART alone, n = 24) for 18 weeks (step 1). At the end of step 1, subjects with a CD4 T-cell count of > or =500 cells/mm or more stopped ART until a CD4 count of <350 cells/mm (step 2). CD4 T-cell count, time to return of viremia, and the emergence of drug resistance mutations after TI were compared between study arms., Results: IL-2 recipients maintained higher CD4 counts during TI for 48 weeks with a waning of the CD4 effect by 72 weeks. A sustained CD4 T-cell count of more than 350 cells/mm and more durable TI were associated with a higher nadir CD4 T-cell count before ART and higher naive CD4 T-cell count at entry. After TI, a higher viral set point and drug resistance mutations at virologic rebound were associated with a shorter time to CD4 T-cell count of less than 350 cell/mm. There were no differences in the magnitude of virologic rebound (at week 8 of step 2, median log10 HIV RNA level was 4.23 for arm A and 4.21 for arm B) or the steady-state HIV-1 RNA level after week 8., Conclusions: IL-2 before TI did not prolong time to CD4 of less than 350 cells/mm. A TI strategy utilizing a CD4 T-cell threshold of less than 350 cells/mm for restarting ART appears generally safe with most subjects in both arms remaining off ART for more than 1 year. Implications of our results for TI strategies include the potential advantage of starting ART at higher CD4 T-cell levels while avoiding any drug resistance and evaluating immunomodulators or drugs to reduce T-cell activation and HIV-1 RNA rebound during the TI.

Context: Approaches to preserve or enhance immune function in HIV-1 infection are needed., Objectives: To examine the ability of daily low-dose interleukin-2 (IL-2) in combination with antiretroviral therapy to preserve circulating CD4+ T-cell counts, the clinical safety and tolerability of this treatment, and safety with respect to changes in plasma HIV-1 RNA levels., Design: Twenty-four-week, phase 2, multicenter, randomized, open-label trial conducted at 12 AIDS Clinical Trials Units between September 1995 and May 1997., Participants: A total of 115 HIV-infected persons with screening CD4+ T-cell counts between 300 and 700 cells/mm who were on stable single- or dual-nucleoside therapy for at least 2 months, 11% of whom were also on a protease inhibitor at study entry., Interventions: Patients were randomly assigned to receive IL-2 at a dose of 1 million IU subcutaneously once daily plus continued anti-retroviral therapy (ART + IL-2, n = 57) vs. continued ART alone (ART alone, n = 58). IL-2 dose reductions were made for objective or subjective toxicities. All subjects randomly assigned to the IL-2 arm who interrupted ART were also required to discontinue IL-2 for the same period., Main Outcome Measures: The primary endpoint was a decrease in CD4 T-cell count from baseline; the safety analysis was based on change in plasma HIV RNA by bDNA; and clinical safety and tolerability were analyzed by standard clinical criteria., Results: Of the patients with a baseline CD4 T-cell count recorded, 15 (27%) of 55 patients randomly assigned to ART alone had a drop of > or =25% in their CD4 T-cell count and 23 (41%) of 56 patients randomly assigned to ART + IL-2 had a drop of > or =25% in their CD4 T-cell count at some time over the 24 weeks of the study. This difference was not statistically significant. There was a statistically significant greater variance in CD4 T-cell counts in the IL-2-treated group. More patients in the IL-2 group had at least a 25% increase in CD4 T-cell counts over baseline (34 vs. 13%, P = 0.007). A comparison of grade 3 or worse toxicity showed no differences between the arms, but IL-2 was associated with significantly more grade 2 or worse general body symptoms, primarily discomfort and fatigue. There was no significant difference between the groups with regard to changes in plasma HIV RNA, lymphocyte proliferation, natural killer cell activity, skin test responses to recall antigens, or antibody responses to immunization. Plasma markers of immune activation all increased significantly in IL-2 recipients., Conclusions: In patients with baseline CD4 T-cell counts > or =300 cells/mm primarily treated with single- or dual-nucleoside ART, subcutaneously administered IL-2 at a dose of 1 million IU daily for up to 24 weeks had low toxicity but showed no consistent benefit in preventing decline in CD4 T-cell counts and minimal evidence of immunologic improvement vs. continued ART alone.

Thalidomide is used to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-associated conditions, including aphthous ulcers and wasting syndrome. The safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics of a formulation of thalidomide with improved bioavailability in HIV-infected persons was examined in a placebo-controlled, dose-escalating phase 1 study. Subjects with CD4 cell counts of 200-500 cells/mm(3) were enrolled and randomized 3:1 in groups of 12 to receive 50, 100, or 150 mg of thalidomide or matching placebo. Two subjects who received 150 mg of drug and 2 subjects assigned placebo experienced dose-limiting toxicity. Concentrations of thalidomide in the blood increased with escalating dose, but the time to maximum concentration and clearance did not differ across dose cohorts. Previous suggestions of autoinduction of drug metabolism were not confirmed by this study. At the doses studied, thalidomide was tolerated well and had linear pharmacokinetics.
