Accidents caused by vehicles changing lanes occur frequently on highways. Moreover, frequent lane changes can severely impact traffic flow during peak commuting hours and on busy roads. A novel framework based on a multi-relational graph convolutional network (MR-GCN) is herein proposed to address these challenges. First, a dynamic multilevel relational graph was designed to describe interactions between vehicles and road objects at different spatio-temporal granularities, with real-time updates to edge weights to enhance understanding of complex traffic scenarios. Second, an improved spatio-temporal interaction graph generation method was introduced, focusing on spatio-temporal variations and capturing complex interaction patterns to enhance prediction accuracy and adaptability. Finally, by integrating a dynamic multi-relational graph convolutional network (DMR-GCN) with dynamic scene sensing and interaction learning mechanisms, the framework enables real-time updates of complex vehicle relationships, thereby improving behavior prediction’s accuracy and real-time performance. Experimental validation on multiple benchmark datasets, including KITTI, Apollo, and Indian, showed that our algorithmic framework achieves significant performance improvements in vehicle behavior prediction tasks, with Map, Recall, and F1 scores reaching 90%, 88%, and 89%, respectively, outperforming existing algorithms. Additionally, the model achieved a Map of 91%, a Recall of 89%, and an F1 score of 90% under congested road conditions in a self-collected high-speed traffic scenario dataset, further demonstrating its robustness and adaptability in high-speed traffic conditions. These results show that the proposed model is highly practical and stable in real-world applications such as traffic control systems and self-driving vehicles, providing strong support for efficient vehicle behavior prediction.

In intelligent traffic monitoring systems, the significant distance between cameras and their non-overlapping fields of view leads to several issues. These include incomplete tracking results from individual cameras, difficulty in matching targets across multiple cameras, and the complexity of inferring the global trajectory of a target. In response to the challenges above, a deep learning-based vehicle tracking algorithm called FairMOT-MCVT is proposed. This algorithm con-siders the vehicles’ characteristics as rigid targets from a roadside perspective. Firstly, a Block-Efficient module is designed to enhance the network’s ability to capture and characterize image features across different layers by integrating a multi-branch structure and depth-separable convolutions. Secondly, the Multi-scale Dilated Attention (MSDA) module is introduced to improve the feature extraction capability and computational efficiency by combining multi-scale feature fusion and attention mechanisms. Finally, a joint loss function is crafted to better distinguish between vehicles with similar appearances by combining the trajectory smoothing loss and velocity consistency loss, thereby considering both position and velocity continuity during the optimization process. The proposed method was evaluated on the public UA-DETRAC dataset, which comprises 1210 video sequences and over 140,000 frames captured under various weather and lighting conditions. The experimental results demonstrate that the FairMOT-MCVT algorithm significantly enhances multi-target tracking accuracy (MOTA) to 79.0, IDF1 to 84.5, and FPS to 29.03, surpassing the performance of previous algorithms. Additionally, this algorithm expands the detection range and reduces the deployment cost of roadside equipment, effectively meeting the practical application requirements.

Context Valerian extract capsule (VEC) is an effective Chinese patent medicine used for gastrointestinal (GI) diseases.Objective To investigate the detailed pharmacological activity for VEC clinical effects in GI diseases.Materials and methods Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into six groups: control, model, and drug-treated (VEC-L, VEC-M, VEC-H, and teprenone). Rats were orally administered VEC (124, 248, 496 mg/kg) and teprenone (21.43 mg/kg) for 3 consecutive days. After 1 h, the five groups (except the control group) were orally given ethanol (10 mL/kg) for 1 h or indomethacin (80 mg/kg) for 7 h. The spasmolytic activity of VEC (0.01–1 mg/mL) on ACh/BaCl2-induced New Zealand rabbit smooth muscle contraction was performed. The C57BL/6 mice carbon propelling test evaluated the effects of VEC (248–992 mg/kg) on intestinal motility in normal and neostigmine/adrenaline-induced mice.Results Compared with the model group, VEC treatment reduced the gastric lesion index and mucosal damage. The Shanxi rift valley is a continental rift system that is characterized by mantle uplift, crustal thinning, and tectonic deformation. A continuous, vertical crustal-deformation field can elucidate the constraints for understanding the mechanisms currently driving the deformation of the rift. Accordingly, we acquired and processed data from 250 continuous and mobile GPS stations located in the Shanxi rift valley and its surrounding region. Accounting for the influence of fault activity, we established the vertical crustal-deformation field of the Shanxi rift valley as a continuous function of space, using an adaptive least-squares collocation method. The main research findings are stated as follows: 1) the adaptive least-squares model yielded a reliable interpolation prediction results with adequate robustness, even for relatively sparse actual observation data. 2) The current general deformation pattern of the Shanxi rift valley exhibits an uplift of the mountainous regions on both sides and subsidence of the central basin. The average uplift rate of the mountain area is 2–3 mm/a, and the subsidence rate of the basin is not uniform and is positively correlated with the spatial distribution of the Cenozoic sediment thickness. However, in certain areas, a high subsidence rate of 10–30 mm/a is associated with human activities such as groundwater exploitation. 3) In summary, the current vertical crustal deformation occurring in the Shanxi rift valley correlates with the pattern over a time scale of millions of years. Overall, it is controlled by regional geological structure pattern, and is influenced by nonstructural factors in the shallow crust, exhibiting both complex and orderly characteristics in its spatial distribution.

Fungus-farming mutualisms are models for studying co-evolutionary among species. Compared to well-documented fungus-farming in social insects, the molecular aspects of fungus-farming mutualisms in nonsocial insects have been poorly explored. Euops chinensis is a solitary leaf-rolling weevil feeding on Japanese knotweed (Fallopia japonica). This pest has evolved a special proto-farming bipartite mutualism with the fungus Penicillium herquei, which provide nutrition and defensive protection for the E. chinensis larvae. Here, the genome of P. herquei was sequenced, and the structure and specific gene categories in the P. herquei genome were then comprehensively compared with the other two well-studied Penicillium species (P. decumbens and P. chrysogenum). The assembled P. herquei genome had a 40.25 Mb genome size with 46.7% GC content. A diverse set of genes associating with carbohydrate-active enzymes, cellulose and hemicellulose degradation, transporter, and terpenoid biosynthesis were detected in the P. herquei genome. Comparative genomics demonstrate that the three Penicillium species show similar metabolic and enzymatic potential, however, P. herquei has more genes associated with plant biomass degradation and defense but less genes associating with virulence pathogenicity. Our results provide molecular evidence for plant substrate breakdown and protective roles of P. herquei in E. chinensis mutualistic system. Large metabolic potential shared by Penicillium species at the genus level may explain why some Penicillium species are recruited by the Euops weevils as crop fungi.

Lipid accumulation, oxidative stress, and inflammation in hepatocytes are features of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Garcinia biflavonoid 1a (GB1a) is a natural product capable of hepatic protection. In this study, the effect of GB1a on anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and regulation of the accumulation in HepG2 cells and mouse primary hepatocytes (MPHs) was investigated, and its regulatory mechanism was further explored. The result showed that GB1a reduced triglyceride (TG) content and lipid accumulation by regulating the expression of SREBP-1c and PPARα; GB1a reduced reactive oxygen species (ROS) and improved cellular oxidative stress to protect mitochondrial morphology by regulating genes Nrf2, HO-1, NQO1, and Keap1; and GB1a reduced the damage of hepatocytes by inhibiting the expression of inflammatory cytokines interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) p65. The activities of GB1a were lost in liver SIRT6-specific knockout mouse primary hepatocytes (SIRT6-LKO MPHs). This indicated that activating SIRT6 was critical for GB1a to perform its activity, and GB1a acted as an agonist of SIRT6. It was speculated that GB1a may be a potential drug for NAFLD treatment.

The WHO recommends Artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACTs) as the first-line treatment for malaria. This meta-analysis aims to analyze the effects of artemisinin and its derivatives as well as non-artemisinin drugs on the gametophytes in the host during the treatment of falciparum malaria. Fourteen studies were included in this analysis, and the artemisinin combination drugs involved were: artemether-lumefantrine (AL), artemisinin (AST), artemether-benflumetol (AB), dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine + trimethoprim + primaquine (CV8), amodiaquine + sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (ASP), pyronaridine-phosphate + dihydroartemisinin (PP-DHA), dihydroartemisinin (DHA), and mefloquine + artesunate (MA), with 1702 patients. The control intervention measures involved the following: sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (SP), mefloquine (MQ), atovaquone-proguanil (AT-PG), chloroquine + sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (C-SP), quinine (Q), pyronaridine-phosphate (PP), pyronaridine (PN), and mefloquine + primaquine (MP), with 833 patients. The effect of ACTs was more obvious (OR = 0.37, 95%CI: 0.22–0.62, p < 0.05). In the control group of second malaria attacks, the difference between the two groups was not statistically significant (RD = 1.16, 95%CI: 0.81–1.66, p < 0.05); there was no significant difference in treatment failure during follow-up (RD = -0.01, 95%CI: 0.04–0.03, p < 0.05). There were also very few serious adverse events in both groups. ACTs showed good therapeutic effects in preventing gametocythemia but did not control the recrudescence rate and overall cure, which indicated the effectiveness of the combination of antimalarial drugs. Further research is required to explore which compatibility method is most conducive to the development of clinical malaria control.

Linear and nonlinear simulations are carried out for the edge coherent mode (ECM) using the global gyrokinetic code GEM based on the EAST experimental parameters. The linear simulation results show that ECM is an electrostatic mode with dominant toroidal mode number n = 18 and frequency about 48 kHz, and propagates along the direction of electron diamagnetic drift, which are consistent with the experimental results. In addition, the density and electron temperature gradients destabilize the mode, while the collision stabilizes the mode. The nonlinear simulation results show that the saturated particle and heat fluxes induced by ECM are mainly due to the perturbed electrostatic ExB drift, and the fluxes of electrons and ions are almost equal. The ECM drives significant outward particle and heat fluxes, thus greatly promoting the maintenance of the long pulse H-mode. The Fourier decomposition of fluxes and potentials demonstrate that the intermediate- n modes of n = 14, 18 grow fastest in the linear phase, while in the nonlinear saturation phase, the low-n modes such as n = 4, 6 dominate and the fluxes are mainly contributed by the mode of n = 10. It is found that zonal flow is not the dominant saturation mechanism of the turbulence. The inverse spectral cascade of turbulence is inevitably observed in the nonlinear saturation process, indicating that it is a more universal turbulence saturation mechanism. It is also found that radial electric field can greatly reduce the turbulence intensity and transport level. From the analyses of frequency and transport channels, it can be concluded that ECM appears to be the collisionless trapped electron mode.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an inflammatory bowel disease. The intake of African Garcinia Kola nuts has been reported as a therapy for diarrhea and dysentery in the African population. However, the mechanism of action through which Garcinia Kola nuts act to ameliorates UC remains unknown. GB1a is the main active component of Garcinia Kola nuts. In this study, we explored the therapeutic effects and underlying mechanism of GB1a on dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced UC. Human Colonic Epithelial Cells (HCoEpic) were challenged with TNF-α to test the effects of GB1a in protecting against oxidative stress and inflammation in vitro. Our data showed that GB1a significantly attenuated DSS-induced colonic inflammatory injury manifested as reversed loss of body weight and disease activity index (DAI) scores in UC mice. We also showed that GB1a improved the permeability of the intestinal epithelium by modulating the expression of tight junction proteins (ZO-1, Occludin). Mechanistically, GB1a may activate the Nrf2 antioxidant signaling pathway and suppress the nuclear translocation of NF-κB in reduced oxidative stress and expression of inflammatory genes induced by TNF-α in HCoEpic cells. Our study suggests that GB1a alleviates inflammation, oxidative stress and the permeability of the colonic epithelial mucosa in UC mice via the repression of NF-κB and activation of Nrf2 signaling pathway.

Malaria, one of the most serious parasitic diseases, kills thousands of people every year, especially in Africa. São Tomé and Príncipe are known to have stable transmission of malaria. Indoor residual spraying (IRS) of insecticides and long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLIN) are considered as an effective malaria control interventions in these places. The resistance status of Anopheles gambiae s.s. from Agua Grande, Caue, and Lemba of São Tomé and Príncipe to insecticides, such as dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) (4.0%), deltamethrin (0.05%), permethrin (0.75%), fenitrothion (1.0%), and malathion (5.0%), were tested according to the WHO standard protocol. DNA extraction, species identification, as well as kdr and ace-1R genotyping were done with the surviving and dead mosquitoes post testing. They showed resistance to cypermethrin with mortality rates ranging from 89.06% to 89.66%. Mosquitoes collected from Agua Grande, Caue, and Lemba displayed resistance to DDT and fenitrothion with mortality rates higher than 90%. No other species were detected in these study localities other than Anopheles gambiae s.s. The frequency of L1014F was high in the three investigated sites, which was detected for the first time in São Tomé and Príncipe. No ace-1R mutation was detected in all investigated sites. The high frequency of L1014F showed that kdr L1014F mutation might be related to insecticide resistance to Anopheles gambiae s.s. populations from São Tomé and Príncipe. Insecticide resistance status is alarming and, therefore, future malaria vector management should be seriously considered by the government of São Tomé and Príncipe.

Background: Mass drug administration with artemisinin-piperaquine (AP-MDA) is being considered for elimination of residual foci of malaria in Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Principe.Methods: Three monthly rounds of AP-MDA were implemented from July to October 2019. Four zones were selected. A and B were selected as a study site and a control site, respectively. C and D were located within 1.5 and 1.5 km away from the study site, respectively. Parasite prevalence, malaria incidence, and the proportion of the Plasmodium falciparum malaria cases were evaluated.Results: After 3 monthly rounds of AP-MDA, the parasite prevalence and the gametocyte carriage rate of P. falciparum in zone A decreased from 28.29(‰) to 0 and 4.99(‰) to 0, respectively. Compared to zone B, the relative risk for the population with Plasmodium falciparum malaria in zone A was lower (RR = 0.458, 95% CI: 0.146–1.437). Malaria incidence fell from 290.49(‰) (the same period of the previous year) to 15.27(‰) (from the 29th week in 2019 to the 14th week in 2020), a decrease of 94.74% in zone A, and from 31.74 to 5.46(‰), a decline of 82.80% in zone B. Compared to the data of the same period the previous year, the cumulative number of P. falciparum malaria cases were lower, decreasing from 165 to 10 in zone A and from 17 to 4 in zone B. The proportion of the P. falciparum malaria cases on the total malaria cases of the country decreased of 90.16% in zone A and 71.34% in zone C.Conclusion: AP-MDA greatly curbed malaria transmission by reducing malaria incidence in the study site and simultaneously creating a knock-on effect of malaria control within 1.5 km of the study site and within the limited time interval of 38 weeks.

In order to study the icing mechanism and anti-icing technology, a small low-speed reflux icing wind tunnel test system was designed and constructed. The refrigeration system and spray system were added to the small reflux low-speed wind tunnel to achieve icing meteorological conditions. In order to verify the feasibility of the test system, the flow field uniformity, temperature stability, and liquid water content distribution of the test section were tested and calibrated. On this basis, the icing tests of an aluminium cylinder, an NACA0018 airfoil, and an S809 airfoil were carried out, and the two-dimensional ice shape obtained by the test was compared with the two-dimensional ice shape obtained by the numerical simulation software. The results show that in the icing conditions and icing time studied, the parameters of the test system are stable, and the experimental ice shape is consistent with the simulated ice shape, which can meet the needs of icing research.

Ice accumulation on the blade of a wind turbine surface seriously threatens the operational safety of the turbine; therefore, the research on this problem is very important. In this paper, a new similarity criterion of icing shape for a rotational model was proposed based on the similarity criterion for translational motion models in the aviation field, and experimental studies on the similarity of the rotational model icing were carried out. To validate the similarity criterion, icing wind tunnel tests were carried out with aluminum cylinders with diameters of 40 mm and 20 mm. Key parameters for the experiment, such as wind speed, temperature, liquid water content, medium volume diameter, and test time, were selected based on the criterion. All the icing tests were carried out in a new self-designed icing wind tunnel test system based on natural low-temperature conditions. The icing shapes observed in the tests were confirmed after many repetitions. To quantitatively analyze the similarity between different sizes of ice shapes, a dimensionless method for evaluating the similarity of ice shapes of different sizes was defined based on the typical characteristics of ice shapes. The research results show that the similarity score between two sizes of ice shapes under different test conditions is 81%~90%. The accuracy and applicability of the icing shape similarity criterion were thus validated. The research results in this paper lay a theoretical and experimental foundation for exploring the icing shape similarity of a rotating model.

Objective: The purpose of this meta-analysis of longitudinal studies is to determine the safety and efficacy of artesunate combined with other forms of adjunctive therapies for severe malaria.Methods: Following the PRISMA guidelines, we searched multiple databases with the search terms “artesunate” and “adjunctive therapy” and “severe malaria” in July 2020. If the search showed a randomized controlled trial, the study was included in this meta-analysis. The random-effects model was used to calculate the combined incidence rate and relative risk or risk difference.Results: This meta-analysis included nine longitudinal studies with 724 participants. We found that the mortality rates in the artesunate monotherapy group and the artesunate + adjuvant therapy group are similar (RD = −0.02, 95% confidence interval: −0.06–0.02). The incidence of adverse reactions in the artesunate monotherapy group and the artesunate + adjuvant therapy group was also similar.Conclusion: No significant differences in safety and efficacy were observed between the artesunate monotherapy group and the artesunate + adjuvant therapy group. Higher quality and rigorously designed randomized controlled studies are needed to validate our findings.

Icings on moving machinery, such as wind turbines and aircraft wings, degrade their performance and safety. Ultrasonic vibration is considered one of the deicing methods. In this research, simulations and experiments are carried out to explore the effect of ultrasonic vibration on the adhesive characteristic of ice on aluminum alloy plates. Harmonic response analyses are conducted to analyze the changing and distributions of shear stresses at the adhesive interface under different frequencies and sizes of PZT patches. The results show that there is optimum side length and thickness of the PZT patch, as the size of the iced aluminum alloy plate is constant. In these conditions, the shear stresses at the adhesive interface are high. Then, experiments on adhesive torque of ice are carried out to calculate the adhesive shear stresses of ice. The results show that the adhesive force of ice decreases under the excitation of ultrasonic vibration. When the excited frequency is 79 kHz, the adhesive torsional shear stress is 0.014 MPa, which is only 7% of the one with no ultrasonic vibration.

ObjectiveThe World Health Organization recommends artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs) for the treatment of uncomplicated malaria to improve the therapeutic efficacy and limit the choice of drug-resistant parasites. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the comparative efficacy and safety of artemisinin-piperaquine (AP) in the treatment of uncomplicated malaria relative to other commonly used ACTs.MethodsAs per the PRISMA guidelines, the EMBASE, MEDLINE, the Google Scholar Library, and Cochrane library databases were systematically searched from inception until July 2020 with the following terms: “artemisinin-piperaquine” or “AP.” Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included. The competing interventions included dihydroartemisinin–piperaquine (DHA-PPQ), artemether–lumefantrine (AL, Coartem), artesunate-melfloquine (ASAM) and artesunate-amodiaquine (ASAQ, Artekin). Single-arm clinical trial on AP was also assessed. The reported outcomes, including the overall response, cure rate, fever and parasite clearance time, hematology, biochemistry, electrocardiogram (ECG), adverse events, recurrence rate, and sensitivity analyses, were systematically investigated. All data were analyzed using the Review Manager 5.3.ResultsA total of seven studies were reviewed, including five RCTs and two single-arm studies. A pooled analysis of 5 RCTs (n = 772) revealed a comparable efficacy on polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-confirmed cure rate between AP and competing interventions in treating uncomplicated malaria. As for the fever and parasite clearance time, due to the lack of complete data in some studies, only 3 studies’ data could be used. The patients showed good tolerance to all drugs, and some side-effects (such as headache, anoxia, vomiting, nausea, and dizziness) were reported for every group, but they were self-limited and showed no significant difference.ConclusionsAP appeared to show similar efficacy and safety, with a simpler mode of administration and easier compliance when compared with other ACTs used in the treatment of uncomplicated malaria. Considering that the potential evolution of drug resistance is of a great concern, additional RCTs with high-quality and more rigorous design are warranted to substantiate the efficacy and safety in different populations and epidemiological regions.

BackgroundMalaria is a major public health concern in Togo. The Est-Mono district of Togo has a population of 150,000. Accordingly, the Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, China and the Ministry of Health and Social Security, Togo launched a nationwide Mass Drug Administration Project with artemisinin–piperaquine (AP) in Est-Mono. Before launching this project, the sensitivity test of AP was conducted in a general clinic in Elawagnon, Togo. With this background, we evaluated the efficacy and safety of AP for the treatment of uncomplicated falciparum malaria in children under the age of 5 years.MethodsChildren aged 6–59 months with uncomplicated falciparum malaria were enrolled in this study. The selected patients were treated with a combination regime of artemisinin–piperaquine. The patients were followed up for 28 days, during which signs of the following were observed for: the duration for fever clearance, parasitemia density, gametophyte generation, cure rate, hemoglobin level, and merozoite surface protein-2 (msp-2) polymorphism. The primary end point was a 28-day cure rate and polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-corrected reinfection and recrudescence. This research followed the standardized World Health Organization (WHO) protocol for the assessment of the efficacy of antimalarial drugs.ResultsA total of 91 children with uncomplicated falciparum malaria were enrolled in this study. Adequate clinical and parasitological responses (ACPRs) before and after PCR-correction were 66 (73%) and 90 (99%), respectively. The average hemoglobin level in the patient increased by 0.05 g/dl per day (p < 0.0001) after the treatment. The gametophyte generation did not decline at the beginning of the treatment; however, after 14 days, it declined (day 21: p < 0.05; day 28: p < 0.01). In the msp-2 polymorphism study of 24 children treated for parasite infection, one case of msp-2 with 3D7 haplotype and FC27 haplotype was noted, indicating its recrudescence, with a frequency of 4%. The remaining 23 cases could have been of reinfection, with a frequency of 96%. No serious adverse reactions occurred, and AP was well-tolerated by all patients.ConclusionArtemisinin–piperaquine was found to be an effective combination for treating uncomplicated falciparum malaria in children aged

Some equipment have low efficiencies and safety when their surfaces are covered with ice, such as wind turbine and airplane, so de-bonding ice on such kind of equipment surface is necessary. In this article, the ultrasonic de-icing method based on icing aluminum plate is researched by finite element method. First, the natural frequency of icing aluminum plate changing with thickness of ice is simulated by modal analysis. Then, the distributions of shear stresses at the interface between aluminum plate and ice layer changing with excitation frequencies are simulated by harmonic analysis. Second, the shear stress and de-icing area influenced by the size of piezoelectric ceramic and excitation voltage are analyzed. The simulation results show that there is lowest natural frequency with optimum thickness of ice layer used to de-bond ice for ultrasonic de-icing system. The optimum distribution law of shear stress at the interface between ice layer and aluminum is decided. In this condition, the shear stress and de-icing area increase along with the excitation voltage. However, the de-icing area increases slowly. All the simulation results lay a theoretical foundation for future experiments and application of ultrasonic de-icing.

To determine the process of icing on the rotating machinery, an icing experiment on a rotating airfoil blade was carried out in this paper. First, an icing wind tunnel was fabricated, and its conditional parameters were calibrated. The calibration results showed that the performance of this icing wind tunnel was reliable and stable. The experimental temperature was -15°C, and the MVD was 50 μm. Then, an icing experiment on the rotating blade with the NACA0018 airfoil was carried out. The characteristics of icing, including icing distribution, growth rate of icing, and thickness of the ice layer, were defined and quantitatively analyzed under different tip speed ratios and setting angles. The results show that the type of icing changes from rime ice to glaze ice with an increase in the tip speed ratio. The dimensionless icing area and dimensionless thickness of the ice layer both increase with an increase in the icing time. The growth rate of icing increases rapidly at the initial icing stage and then decreases dramatically under each tip speed ratio condition.

In cold and humid regions, ice accretion sometimes develops on the blades of wind turbines. Blade icing reduces the power generation of the wind turbine and affects the safe operation of the wind farm. For this paper, ultrasonic micro-vibration was researched as an effective de-icing method to remove ice from the wind turbine blade surface and improve the efficiency of wind turbine power generation. A blade segment with NACA0018 airfoil and the hollow structure at the leading edge was designed. The modal analysis of the blade was simulated by ANSYS, and the de-icing vibration mode was selected. Based on the simulation results, the blade segment sample with PZT patches was machined, and its natural frequencies were measured with an impedance analyzer. A return-flow icing wind tunnel system, and a device used to measure the adhesive strength of ice covering the airfoil blade, were designed and manufactured. The experiments on the adhesive strength of the ice were carried out under the excitation of the ultrasonic vibration. The experimental results show that the adhesive strength of the ice, which was generated under the dynamic flow field condition, was lower than the ice generated by water under the static flow field condition. Under the excitation of the ultrasonic vibration, the adhesive strength of the ice decreased. When the excitation frequency was 21.228 kHz, the adhesive strength was the lowest, which was 0.084 MPa. These research findings lay the theoretical and experimental foundations for researching in-depth the application of the ultrasonic de-icing technology to wind turbines.

Rotating machinery in cold and humid regions is prone to icing. For exploring the characteristics of icing on objects rotating around a vertical axis, such as vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT), a cylinder rotating around the vertical axis was selected as the research object in this study. Three cylinders with different diameters were selected, and icing tests carried out under different tip speed ratios (TSR) in a self-built icing wind tunnel. The icing characteristics were quantitatively analyzed using characteristic parameters, including the icing area, the dimensionless icing area, the stagnation point thickness and the dimensionless stagnation point thickness. The dimensionless stagnation point thickness decreased with increases in the diameter of the cylinder. The icing limit decreased with an increase in the rotational speed of the cylinder, and reached 50% under the high TSR condition. Various icing characteristics were also analyzed for two rotation modes: rotation around the vertical axis and around the horizontal axis. The research findings in the present study lay the theoretical and experimental foundations for exploring VAWT icing in depth.

To investigate the temperature effect on characteristics of icing distribution near the tip part of rotating blade of large-scale horizontal-axis wind turbine, numerical simulations were carried out on a horizontal-axis wind turbine rotor with rated power of 1.5 MW based on a quasi-three-dimensional computational method developed in this study. The icing simulation was focused on the part between blade tip and 30% length of blade from tip along span wise to blade root where the most serious icing area is according to the past researches. Eight sections along blade were selected, and the ice accretion on each airfoil was calculated. Eight temperature values from −6°C to −20°C were decided to investigate the effects of temperature on icing under the certain liquid water content and medium volume droplet. Three icing times were selected to research the ice accretion on blade surface with the increase in the time. According to the results, the icing distribution has the overall characteristics that the icing shape changes from horn icing shape to streamline icing shape with decrease in the temperature. The closer the blade airfoil section to blade tip, the more obvious the ice accretion is. This study can be a reference for the research on anti-icing and de-icing technologies for large-scale horizontal-axis wind turbine.

Tube-fed structure occurs as a general phenomenon in Tengchong basic lavas, such as lava tubes, lava plugs and tube-related collapse depressions. We deduced the development of Laoguipo lava flows, which is the longest lava tube (Jingfudong lava tube) evolved in Tengchong volcanic area. Following the detailed documentation of the tube morphology of the Jingfudong lava tube, we propose that the Jingfudong lava tube was formed through vertical coalescence of at least three tubes. The coalescence and bifurcation process are re-constructed by interpretation of tube floor continuity, the distribution of remnant tubes and the scales of lava tube branches (shapes of cross sections).

Perovskite-type was synthesized by two methods, the combustion method and conventional solid state reaction (SSR) method. The effect of synthesis methods on sinterability and physical properties of the ceramic were investigated. The results show that there are advantages of the combustion method in producing doped lanthanum chromites. Compared with the SSR method, the combustion method reduces the sintering temperature of La0.8Ca0.2CrO3, elevates the electronic conductivity and thermal expansion coefficient (TEC) of the ceramic, due to optimizing the microstructure. At the same densities level (–93%), the specimen synthesized by the combustion method reaches a superior electrical conductivity of 31.6 S·cm-1 and a compatible TEC of 10.7 × 10−6 K−1 at 800 °C.

In order to explore a set of methods to analyze the structure of Lift-Drag Combined-Type Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (LD-VAWT), a small LD-VAWT was designed according to the corresponding Standards and General Design Requirements for small vertical axis wind turbines. The finite element method was used to calculate and analyze the static mechanical properties and modalities of main parts of a kind of small-scale LD-VAWT. The contours of corresponding stress and displacement were obtained, and first six-order mode vibration profiles of main parts were also obtained. The results show that the main structure parts of LD-VAWT meet the design requirements in the working condition of the rated speed. Furthermore, the resonances of all main parts did not occur during operation in the simulations. The prototype LD-VAWT was made based on the analysis and simulation results in this study and operated steadily. The methods used in this study can be used as a reference for the static mechanical properties and modal analysis of vertical axis wind turbine.

Well-defined polyhedral Pd-Pt nanocrystals anchored on the reduced graphene oxide (rGO) are successfully synthesized via a facile and efficient surfactant-free solvothermal route. The formation mechanism is carefully illustrated via tuning the surface state of rGO substrate and the Pd/Pt ratio in Pd-Pt nanocrystals. rGO substrates with continuous smooth surface, which can offer continuous 2D larger π electrons, play important roles in the formation of the well-defined polyhedral Pd-Pt nanocrystals. Suitable Pd/Pt ratio, which determines the affinity between the rGO substrate and polyhedral Pd-Pt nanocrystals, is another important factor for the formation of polyhedral Pd-Pt nanocrystals. Due to the well-defined surface of Pd-Pt nanocrystals, rich corners and edges from polyhedral structure, as well as more exposed (111) facets, the low-Pt polyhedral Pd-Pt nanocrystals anchored on rGO, used as electrocatalysts, exhibit high electrocatalytic activity for oxygen reduction reaction with excellent methanol tolerance.

Colitis-associated cancer (CAC) is a malignant disease of the colon that is caused by recurrent episodes of chronic intestinal inflammation. Huangqi Baizhu decoction (HBD) is a classic prescription comprised of Radix Astragali and Rhizoma Atractylodis, which are usually used to treat digestive conditions, such as peptic ulcers, colitis, or colorectal carcinoma in clinics. HBD is well known for “tonifying qi and spleen” based on the theories of traditional Chinese medicine, and has the preponderant effect of alleviating chronic intestinal mucosa damage associated with disease. However, the underlying mechanism behind this is still unknown. In the current study, we employed the AOM/DSS mouse model to analyze the effects of HBD on the development of inflammation in colonic carcinoma. The in vivo study showed that HBD could significantly reduce the mortality of mice and control the incidence and size of colonic tumors by inhibiting the IL-6/STAT3 signaling pathway. In vitro, Astragaloside and Atractylenolide (CAA), the main components of HBD, inhibited the proliferation of HCT-116 cells as determined by an MTT assay. Furthermore, CAA notably suppressed the protein expression of IL-6R, STAT3, Survivin, and Cyclin D1 induced by IL-6 in HCT-116 and RAW264.7 cells. These results suggested that HBD exhibits anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative effects, inhibiting the development of CAC in mice.

Polyphenol compositions and concentrations in skins and seeds of five muscadine grapes (cv. “Noble”, “Alachua”, “Carlos”, “Fry”, and “Granny Val”) cultivated in the United States (Tallahassee-Florida, TA-FL) and South China (Nanning-Guangxi, NN-GX and Pu’er-Yunnan, PE-YN) were investigated, using ultra performance liquid chromatography tandem triple quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC Triple TOF MS/MS). Fourteen ellagitannins were newly identified in these muscadine grapes. The grapes grown in NN-GX accumulated higher levels of ellagic acid, methyl brevifolin carboxylate, and ellagic acid glucoside in skins, and penta-O-galloyl-glucose in seeds. In PE-YN, more flavonols were detected in skins, and higher contents of flavan-3-ols, ellagic acid, and methyl gallate were identified in seeds. Abundant seed gallic acid and flavonols were found among the grapes grown in TA-FL. Based on principal component analysis (PCA) of 54 evaluation parameters, various cultivars grown in different locations could be grouped together and vice versa for the same cultivar cultivated in different regions. This is the result of the interaction between genotype and environmental conditions, which apparently influences the polyphenol synthesis and accumulation.

Bi2MoO6 single-crystallites were synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method in the presence of surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), or cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB). The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectra (UV-vis DRS) techniques. The photocatalytic activities of the as-fabricated Bi2MoO6 samples were measured for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) under the Xe light illumination. It is shown that the introduction of surfactant have a crucial influence on the size and morphology of the Bi2MoO6 product. Among the as-fabricated Bi2MoO6 samples, the ones derived hydrothermally with CTAB showed outstanding photocatalytic activities for the addressed reaction under simulated sunlight irradiation, attributed to the ultrafine nanocrystals and the higher surface areas.

In this paper, crystalline iron-nickel alloy nanostructures were successfully prepared from two cationic pyridinium derivatives as soft templates in solution. The crystal structure and micrograph of FeNi alloy nanostructures were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy, and the content was confirmed by energy-dispersive spectrometry. The results indicated that the as-prepared nanostructures showed slightly different diameter ranges with the change of cationic pyridinium derivatives on the surface. The experimental data indicated that the adsorption of cationic pyridinium compounds on the surface of particles reduces the surface charge, leading to an isotropic distribution of the residual surface charges. The magnetic behaviours of as-prepared FeNi alloy nanostructures exhibited disparate behaviours, which could be attributed to their grain sizes and distinctive structures. The present work may give some insight into the synthesis and character of new alloy nanomaterials with special nanostructures using new soft templates.

Bismuth molybdate single-crystallites were synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method at different pH values. The as-fabricated samples were characterized by X-ray diffrac‐ tion (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM); it has been found that the pH values of the precursors can significantly influence the structures of the products. Under the Bi/Mo ratio of 2:1 conditions (a nominal compo‐ sition of Aurivillius structure), low pH leads to the forma‐ tion of γ-Bi2MoO6 with Aurivillius type structure, while neutral and higher pH values lead to the formation of γ- Bi2MoO6/Bi2O3 composite, and Bi2O3, respectively. The photocatalytic activities of the samples with different structures were measured for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) under simulated sunlight irradiation. Among the as-fabricated bismuth molybdate samples, the γ-Bi2MoO6 exhibited superior photocatalytic efficiency to the γ- Bi2MoO6/Bi2O3 composite and the Bi2O3, mainly due to its unique layered Aurivillius structure, smaller band gap structures and smaller particle sizes.

Many insect taxa cultivate fungi for food. Compared to well-known fungus cultivation in social insects, our knowledge on fungus cultivation in nonsocial insects is still limited. Here, we studied the nutritional potentials of the fungal cultivar, Penicillium herquei, for the larvae of its nonsocial insect farmer, Euops chinensis, a specialist on Japanese knotweed Reynoutria japonica. Overall, fungal hyphae and leaf rolls contained significantly higher carbon (C), stable isotopes of C (d13C), and nitrogen (d15N) but significantly lower C/N ratios compared to unrolled leaves, whereas insect bodies contained significantly higher N contents but lower C and C/N ratios compared to other types of samples. The MixSIAR model indicated that fungal hyphae contributed a larger proportion (0.626-0.797) to the diet of E. chinensis larvae than leaf materials. The levels of ergosterol, six essential amino acids, seven nonessential amino acids, and three B vitamins tested in fungal hyphae and/or leaf rolls were significantly higher than in unrolled leaves and/or larvae. The P. herquei genome contains the complete set of genes required for the biosynthesis of ergosterol, the essential amino acids valine and threonine, nine nonessential amino acids, and vitamins B2 and B3, whereas some genes associated with five essential and one nonessential amino acid were lost in the P. herquei genome. These suggest that P. herquei is capable of providing the E. chinensis larvae food with ergosterol, amino acids, and B vitamins. P. herquei appears to be able to synthesize or concentrate these nutrients considering that they were specifically concentrated in fungal hyphae. IMPORTANCE The cultivation of fungi for food has occurred across divergent insect lineages such as social ants, termites, and ambrosia beetles, as well as some seldomreported solitary insects. Although the fungal cultivars of these insects have been studied for decades, the dietary potential of fungal cultivars for their hosts (especially for those nonsocial insects) is largely unknown. Our research on the mutualistic system Euops chinensis-Penicillium herquei represents an example of the diverse nutritional potentials of the fungal cultivar P. herquei in the diet of the larvae of its solitary host, E. chinensis. These results demonstrate that P. herquei has the potential to synthesize or concentrate ergosterol, amino acids, and B vitamins and benefits the larvae of E. chinensis. Our findings would shed light on poorly understood fungal cultivation mutualisms in nonsocial insects and underscore the nutritional importance of fungal cultivars in fungal cultivation mutualisms. Computer vision and deep learning are one of the main technologies for weed intelligent recognition in farmland. However, when using the deep learning technology to identify weeds in the field broomcorn millet growing at seedling stage, the weeds grow densely, which not only leads to the imbalance of positive and negative sample data, but also causes the problem of small area segmentation. In this paper, the combination of dice and focal loss was applied to Segformer semantic segmentation network with MiT-B3 as encoder block to identify intensive weeds in seedling broomcorn millet fields. The accuracy scores on the testing set were 95.23 %. The results show that the method proposed in this paper can effectively identify the seedling intensive weeds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
