Background: Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is one of the respiratory diseases with high mortality and incidence. As an important angiogenic factor, (Endothelial cell-specific molecule 1) ESM1 plays an important role in the occurrence and development of LUAD. However, the role and molecular mechanism of ESM1 on LUAD metabolic reprogramming and angiogenesis remain unclear. Methods: We used multiple databases to analyze the prognostic significance and potential function of ESM1 in patients with LUAD. The expression of ESM1 in LUAD cells was down-regulated/overexpressed by RNA interference, and the effects of ESM1 on the proliferation, migration, lipid metabolism and angiogenesis of LUAD cells in vitro and in vivo were analyzed using MTT, EdU, wound healing, oil red O, tubule formation, xenograft tumor model and chicken embryo allantoic model. Results: ESM1 is closely associated with poor prognosis in LUAD patients. ESM1 promotes LUAD proliferation, migration, fatty acid synthesis and angiogenesis. It also accelerates the proliferation, migration, lipid synthesis and tubule formation of endothelial cells in the tumor microenvironment in the form of secreted protein. Mechanically, ESM1 can promote the activation of AKT signaling pathway and up-regulate the expression of SCD1 and FASN. Conclusion: Our results suggest that ESM1 promotes the proliferation, migration, lipid reprogramming, and angiogenesis of LUAD cells by activating the AKT signaling pathway, suggesting that ESM1 may be a potential therapeutic target and prognostic marker in LUAD patients.

The unreasonable accumulation of coal gangue in mining areas has caused serious resource waste and environmental pollution. The functional utilization of coal gangue with high added value has become the key to solving the previous problem. Coal gangue has inherent advantages such as large specific surface areas and rich active components, giving rise to an excellent precursor of electrode material in electrochemical energy storage devices. Herein, we, firstly, fabricated an amorphous SiCX/SiOX electrocatalyst with an abundant oxygen vacancy by acid–alkali activation derived from coal gangue for advanced Li-O2 batteries. The in-depth experimental results coupled with an in situ characterization analysis revealed that the amorphous SiCX/SiOX layer with abundant functional groups and oxygen vacancies on the surface of the activated gangue was conducive to promote structural stability and to improve the formation/decomposition efficiency of discharged products (Li2O2). Therefore, the LOBs based on the activated coal gangue electrocatalyst delivered a low overpotential of 1.12 V, high discharge capacity of 9156 mAh g−1, and an improved cyclic stability (more than 350 h). This work can provide a new approach for the development of new functions of coal gangue.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a disease characterized by degeneration of the joint complex due to cartilage destruction. Fraxetin, a widely used and studied coumarin compound extracted from a traditional Chinese herb (Qin Pi), has shown anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, but its effects on OA have not been studied. In the present study, western blotting, immunofluorescence, and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL) were used to evaluate the effects of fraxetin on IL-1β-induced apoptotic activity, inflammatory responses, and catabolism in rat chondrocytes. The results showed that fraxetin prevented IL-1β-induced apoptosis of chondrocytes and inhibited inflammatory mediator release by regulating the Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/myeloid differentiation primary response 88 (MyD88)/nuclear factor (NF)-κB pathway in chondrocytes. Additionally, fraxetin suppressed the upregulation of matrix metalloproteinase 13 (MMP13) and degradation of collagen II in the extracellular matrix (ECM). Moreover, the effects of fraxetin in vivo were assessed in a monosodium iodoacetate (MIA)-induced rat model of OA using hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) and Safranin O-fast green staining and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The results showed that fraxetin protected the cartilage against destruction. In conclusion, fraxetin could be a potential therapeutic for OA.

Previously conducted studies have established that surface subsidence is typically avoided by filling coal mined-out areas with solid waste. Backfilling hydraulic supports are critically important devices in solid backfill mining, whose operating performance can directly affect backfill mining efficiency. To accurately evaluate the operating performance, this paper proposes hybrid machine learning models for the operating states. An analysis of the factors that influence operating performance provides eight indices for evaluating backfilling hydraulic supports. Based on the data obtained from the Creo simulation model and field measurement, six hybrid models were constructed by combining swarm intelligent algorithms and support vector machines (SVM). Models of the SVM optimized by the modified sparrow search algorithm have shown improved convergence performance. The results show that the modified model has a prediction accuracy of 95.52%. The related evaluation results fit well with the actual support intervals of the backfilling hydraulic support.

Preparing shotcrete materials using coal gangue is an effective method of disposal and use of gangue solid waste, while testing the Poisson’s ratio of coal gangue-based shotcrete materials (CGSM) is an important step in evaluating the mechanical properties of such materials. Therefore, to study the evolution of the Poisson’s ratio of CGSM under different influencing factors, detailed test schemes and procedures were designed based on the non-contact test method of Poisson’s ratio. The accuracy of the non-contact test method is verified. In addition, changes in the Poisson’s ratio of CGSM under different factors were studied. Results show that the Poisson’s ratio of CGSM tends to reduce with prolonged curing. When the particle sizes of coal gangue are 0 ~ 2.5 and 2.5 ~ 5 mm, fine particles can fill interstitial voids in shotcrete materials. As the mass concentration and cement content increase, the Poisson’s ratio of CGSM gradually decreases; as the sand content rises, the Poisson’s ratio gradually increases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
