From 31 January to 5 February, 2024, Henan Province experienced a rare freezing rain and snow process characterized by a long duration,substantial cumulative precipitation,significant snow depth,low temperatures,and complex precipitation phases.Based on the national meteorological observation data,dual-polarization radar data,and hourly reanalysis data of ERA5,a diagnostic analysis of the event's extremity,phase evolution,and causes of the freezing rain and snow was conducted.The results are as follows.During the process,5 national meteorological stations reached or exceeded the maximum snow depth of the historical records in February.At many stations,the minimum temperature has reached or set a new historical record in early February.Precipitation was observed from at least 68.3% of national meteorological observation stations in a single day,with the longest continuous precipitation at a single station being nearly 29 hours.The stable maintenance of a large-scale circulation system was one of the main reasons for this process.The persistent intrusion of the strong cold air in the lower troposphere provided both dynamic uplift and sustained cooling conditions for the freezing rain and snow process.Exceptionally strong southerly airflow provided ample moisture and momentum,enhancing unstable stratification.For precipitation phase identification,relying solely on a single-layer temperature is insufficient.Instead,the entire atmospheric layer temperature should be considered to predict possible precipitation phases.When the entire atmospheric layer temperature is below 0℃,precipitation is pure snow.If there is a melting layer or the cloud consists of supercooled water droplets,mixed precipitation will occur.Dual-polarization radar's correlation coefficient and differential reflectivity products are useful for distinguishing between sleet and pure snow.A correlation coefficient close to 1 and differential reflectivity between-1 and 0 dB indicates pure snow,while a correlation coefficient less than 1 and differential reflectivity greater than 1 dB indicate sleet.

Abstract Observational studies have previously reported an association between depression and certain female reproductive disorders. However, the causal relationships between depression and different types of female reproductive disorders remain unclear in terms of direction and magnitude. We conducted a comprehensive investigation using a two-sample bi-directional Mendelian randomization analysis, incorporating publicly available GWAS summary statistics. Our aim was to establish a causal relationship between genetically predicted depression and the risk of various female reproductive pathological conditions, such as ovarian dysfunction, polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS), ovarian cysts, abnormal uterine and vaginal bleeding(AUB), endometriosis, leiomyoma of the uterus, female infertility, spontaneous abortion, eclampsia, pregnancy hypertension, gestational diabetes, excessive vomiting in pregnancy, cervical cancer, and uterine/endometrial cancer. We analyzed a substantial sample size, ranging from 111,831 to 210,870 individuals, and employed robust statistical methods, including inverse variance weighted, MR-Egger, weighted median, and MR-PRESSO, to estimate causal effects. Sensitivity analyses, such as Cochran's Q test, MR-Egger intercept test, MR-PRESSO, leave-one-out analysis, and funnel plots, were also conducted to ensure the validity of our results. Furthermore, risk factor analyses were performed to investigate potential mediators associated with these observed relationships. Our results demonstrated that genetic predisposition to depression or dysthymia was associated with an increased risk of developing PCOS (OR = 1.43, 95% CI 1.28–1.59; P = 6.66 × 10–11), ovarian cysts (OR = 1.36, 95% CI 1.20–1.55; P = 1.57 × 10–6), AUB (OR = 1.41, 95% CI 1.20–1.66; P = 3.01 × 10–5), and endometriosis (OR = 1.43, 95% CI 1.27–1.70; P = 2.21 × 10–7) after Bonferroni correction, but no evidence for reverse causality. Our study did not find any evidence supporting a causal or reverse causal relationship between depression/dysthymia and other types of female reproductive disorders. In summary, our study provides evidence for a causal relationship between genetically predicted depression and specific types of female reproductive disorders. Our findings emphasize the importance of depression management in the prevention and treatment of female reproductive disorders, notably including PCOS, ovarian cysts, AUB, and endometriosis.

BackgroundSalidroside (SAL) has a protective effect on multiple organ systems. Exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in the atmosphere may lead to disruptions in gut microbiota and impact intestinal health. The regulatory effect of SAL on the gut microbiota of mice exposed to PM2.5 requires further investigation.ObjectiveTo evaluate gut microbiota disruption in mice after being exposed to PM2.5 and the potential effect of SAL.MethodsForty male C57BL/6 mice, aged 6 to 8 weeks, were randomly divided into four groups: a control group, an SAL group, a PM2.5 group, and an SAL+PM2.5 group, each containing 10 mice. In the SAL group and the SAL+PM2.5 group, the mice were administered SAL (60 mg·kg−1) by gavage, while in the control group and the PM2.5 group, sterile saline (10 mL·kg−1) was administered by gavage. In the PM2.5 group and the SAL+PM2.5 group, PM2.5 suspension (8 mg·kg−1) was intratracheally instilled, and in the control group and SAL group, sterile saline (1.5 mL·kg−1) was intratracheally administered. Each experiment cycle spanned 2 d, with a total of 10 cycles conducted over 20 d. Histopathological changes in the ileum tissue of the mice were observed after HE staining. Colon contents were collected for gut microbiota sequencing and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) measurements.ResultsThe PM2.5 group showed infiltration of inflammatory cells in the ileum tissue, while the SAL+PM2.5 group exhibited only a small amount of inflammatory cell infiltration. The rapid development of the internet and smartphones has enabled people to access numerous information systems and large volumes of data. User profiling technology can meet the dual challenge of analyzing user characteristics, interests, or preferences and recommending corresponding resources. Nevertheless, the insufficiency and isolation of data in traditional information systems limit the effect of user profiling, and social networks can compensate for this deficiency. With massive quantities of data in text, images, videos, and relationships in social networks, user profiling can achieve highly accurate analytical results. This review comprehensively discusses user profiling for social networks, defines its criteria, and expounds on the entire process, from data collection to the profiling model and performance evaluation. It includes various models with advantages and disadvantages and corresponding application scenarios. Additionally, considering that technology serves humans, this review provides users with multiple applications in the industry for user profiling based on social networks. Furthermore, it discusses the ethical and legal issues associated with user profiling. Finally, this review highlights possible future research directions in this field. Overall, this review can help researchers enhance their understanding of the current state of research in the field of user profiling and gain ideas for further study.

Abstract Visualizing rapid biological dynamics like neuronal signaling and microvascular flow is crucial yet challenging due to photon noise and motion artifacts. Here we present a deep learning framework for enhancing the spatiotemporal relations of optical microscopy data. Our approach leverages correlations of mirrored perspectives from conjugated scan paths, training a model to suppress noise and motion blur by restoring degraded spatial features. Quantitative validation on vibrational calcium imaging validates significant gains in spatiotemporal correlation (2.2×), signal-to-noise ratio (9–12 dB), structural similarity (6.6×), and motion tolerance compared to raw data. We further apply the framework to diverse in vivo experiments from mouse cerebral hemodynamics to zebrafish cardiac dynamics. This approach enables the clear visualization of the rapid nutrient flow (30 mm/s) in microcirculation and the systolic and diastolic processes of heartbeat (2.7 cycle/s), as well as cellular and vascular structure in deep cortex. Unlike techniques relying on temporal correlations, learning inherent spatial priors avoids motion-induced artifacts. This self-supervised strategy flexibly enhances live microscopy under photon-limited and motion-prone regimes.

Source localization with time-of-arrival (TOA), time-difference-of-arrival (TDOA), time-delay (TD), received-signal-strength (RSS), or angle-of-arrival (AOA) measurements from several spatially distributed sensors is commonly used in practice. Existing analysis of the Cram $\acute{\text{e}}$ r-Rao lower bounds (CRLB) shows that a hybrid of two or more independent kinds of measurement has a lower CRLB than one individual type of measurement. This paper develops a unified constrained weighted-least squares (CWLS) algorithm for five types of hybrid localization systems: AOA and TOA (AOA/TOA), AOA and TDOA (AOA/TDOA), AOA and TD (AOA/TD), AOA and RSS (AOA/RSS), AOA, TOA, and RSS (AOA/TOA/RSS). These formulated CWLS problems only have one quadratic constraint, which can be effectively solved by the Lagrange multiplier method and root-finding algorithm. Extensive simulation results show that the proposed CWLS algorithms are superior to state-of-the-art algorithms and reach the CRLB.

Abstract Objective Despite the vital role of blood perfusion in tumor progression, in patients with persistent pulmonary nodule with ground-glass opacity (GGO) is still unclear. This study aims to investigate the relationship between tumor blood vessel and the growth of persistent malignant pulmonary nodules with ground-glass opacity (GGO). Methods We collected 116 cases with persistent malignant pulmonary nodules, including 62 patients as stable versus 54 patients in the growth group, from 2017 to 2021. Three statistical methods of logistic regression model, Kaplan–Meier analysis regression analysis were used to explore the potential risk factors for growth of malignant pulmonary nodules with GGO. Results Multivariate variables logistic regression analysis and Kaplan–Meier analysis identified that tumor blood vessel diameter (p = 0.013) was an significant risk factor in the growth of nodules and Cut-off value of tumor blood vessel diameter was 0.9 mm with its specificity 82.3% and sensitivity 66.7%.While in subgroup analysis, for the GGO CTR

Abstract The fine-scale seismic features near the inner core boundary (ICB) provide critical insights into the thermal, chemical, and geodynamical interactions between liquid and solid cores, and may shed light on the evolution mechanism of the Earth’s core. Here, we utilize a dataset of pre-critical PKiKP waveforms to constrain the fine structure at the ICB, considering the influence of various factors such as source complexity, structural anomalies in the mantle, and properties at the ICB. Our modeling suggests a sharp ICB beneath Mongolia and most of Northeast Asia, but a locally laminated ICB structure beneath Central Asia, Siberia, and part of Northeast Asia. The complex ICB structure might be explained by either the existence of a kilometer-scale thickness of mushy zone, or the localized coexistence of bcc and hcp iron phase at the ICB. We infer that there may be considerable lateral variations in the dendrites growing process at ICB, probably due to the complicated thermochemical and geodynamical interaction between the outer and inner core.

Rationale & Objective: This study aimed to assess the effect of exposure to organic pollutants in adults with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Study Design: This was a cross-sectional and longitudinal analysis. Setting and Participants: Forty adults enrolled in the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC). Exposures: Exposure at baseline and longitudinally to various organic chemical pollutants. Outcomes: The outcomes were as follows: death; composite of congestive heart failure, myocardial infarction, and stroke; event-free survival from kidney failure or ≥50% decline in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR); and longitudinal trajectory of eGFR. Analytical Approach: We used high-performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry to measure urinary concentrations of bisphenols, phthalates, organophosphate pesticides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, melamine, and cyanuric acid at years 1, 3, and 5 after enrollment in the CRIC. Univariate and multivariable logistic regression were used to examine the association of individual compounds and classes of pollutants with the outcomes. The Cox proportional hazards model and Kaplan-Meier method were used to calculate hazard ratios and 95% CIs for each class of pollutants. Results: Median baseline eGFR and urinary protein-to-creatinine ratio were 33 mL/min/1.73 m2 and 0.58 mg/g, respectively. Of 52 compounds assayed, 30 were detectable in ≥50% of participants. Urinary chemical concentrations were comparable in patients with CKD and healthy individuals from contemporaneous National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey cohorts. Phthalates were the only class with a trend toward higher exposure in patients with CKD. There was an inverse relationship between exposure and the eGFR slopes for bisphenol F, mono-(3-carboxypropyl) phthalate, mono-benzyl phthalate, mono-[2-(carboxymethyl)hexyl] phthalate, and melamine. There were no associations between organic pollutant exposure and cardiovascular outcomes. Limitations: Small sample size, evaluation of single rather than combined exposures. Conclusions: Simultaneous measurement of multiple organic pollutants in adults with CKD is feasible. Exposure levels are comparable with healthy individuals. Select contaminants, especially in the phthalate class, may be associated with more rapid deterioration in kidney function. Plain-Language Summary: The effect of exposure to organic pollutants has not been studied in adults with chronic kidney disease. (CKD). To fill this gap, we measured the exposure to a wide range of chemicals that are found in plastics, personal care products, and food preparation. Overall, the exposure was similar to that noted in the healthy population living in the United States. Only select compounds, mainly phthalates, demonstrated a trend with a more rapid decline in kidney function. These findings provide a useful reference for future studies that aim to evaluate organic pollutant exposure in patients with CKD. This is significant because these exposures represent a modifiable risk factor for disease progression through alterations in diet or lifestyle.

Above-ground biomass (AGB) is a critical criterion for assessing the ecological value and productivity of grasslands. Quickly and accurately estimating the AGB of grasslands has become a matter of great concern in grassland ecosystem research. By combining ground ASD hyperspectral data and airborne hyperspectral data, this study successfully extracted the sensitive bands of canopy reflectance and calculated the various vegetation indexes, thus providing information of more dimensions for above-ground biomass estimation. Biomass inversion-based yield modeling results reveal that the 377 nm raw band reflectance of the ASD data and the narrow-band vegetation index of the Resonon data exhibit outstanding performance in yield modeling. Comparative analysis indicates that the Resonon hyperspectral data demonstrate a distinct advantage in assessing meadow steppe yield, and the quadratic polynomial model based on its narrow-band SAVI achieves an R2 of 0.553 and an RMSE of 37.53.

The phase space, as coded by kinematic parameters and chemical abundances, is crucial for understanding the formation of the Galactic disk. Using red giant stars from the Galactic thin disk with [Fe/H] > − 0.8 and low- α ratios identified in LAMOST-Gaia, we detect numerous ridges and undulations in the R – V _ϕ diagram coded by median V _R . Strikingly, the slope of these features changes from −22 km s ^−1 kpc ^−1 to −8 km s ^−1 kpc ^−1 at R ∼ 11.5 kpc. Accordingly, the R _g – V _ϕ plane, also coded by median V _R , reveals wave-like structures that propagate outwards in the inner disk but reverse direction and move inwards beyond R _g = 11.5 kpc. The most prominent feature is the G1 group, distinguished by its wider spread and negative median V _R at R _g ∼ 15 kpc, contrasting with the narrower G0 group that exhibits positive median V _R at R _g < 11.5 kpc. Furthermore, the [C/N] versus [Fe/H] relationship for the G1 group mirrors the opposite trend compared to the G0 group. Since [C/N] serves as a proxy for age, this contrasting behavior suggests an inverse age–metallicity relation for the G1 group. Comparison with the Sagittarius dwarf galaxy reveals that the G1 group possesses distinct [Mg/Fe] and [Al/Fe] ratios, yet its [C/N] versus [Fe/H] pattern is similar to that of the Sgr dwarf galaxy. Based on these observations, we proposed that the inward-moving and asymmetric velocity wave G1 might be linked to the minor merge of the Sagittarius galaxy.

Abstract Background Improving the potency of immune response is paramount among issues concerning immunotherapy of muscle‐invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). Methods On the basis of immune subtypes, we investigated possible molecular mechanisms involved in tumor immune escape in MIBC. According to the 312 immune‐related genes, three MIBC immune subtypes were clustered. Results Cluster 2 subtype is characterized by FGFR3 mutations and has a better clinical prognosis. However, the expression levels of MHC‐I and immune checkpoints genes were the lowest, indicating that this subtype is subject to immune escape and has a low response rate to immunotherapy. Bioinformatics analysis and immunofluorescence staining of clinical samples revealed that the FGFR3 is involved in the immune escape in MIBC. Besides, after FGFR3 knockout with siRNA in RT112 and UMUC14 cells, the TLR3/NF‐kB pathway was significantly activated and was accompanied by upregulation of MHC‐I and PD‐L1 gene expression. Furthermore, the use of TLR3 agonists poly(I:C) can further improve the effect. Conclusion Together, our results suggest that FGFR3 might involve in immunosuppression by inhibition of NF‐kB pathway in BC. Considering that TLR3 agonists are currently approved for clinical treatment as immunoadjuvants, our study might provide more insights for improving the efficacy of immunotherapy in MIBC.

Pectin is a structural polysaccharide and a major component of plant cell walls. Pectate lyases are a class of enzymes that degrade demethylated pectin by cleaving the α-1,4-glycosidic bond, and they play an important role in plant growth and development. Currently, little is known about the PL gene family members and their involvement in salt stress in potato. In this study, we utilized bioinformatics to identify members of the potato pectate lyase gene family and analyzed their gene and amino acid sequence characteristics. The results showed that a total of 27 members of the pectate lyase gene family were identified in potato. Phylogenetic tree analysis revealed that these genes were divided into eight groups. Analysis of their promoters indicated that several members’ promoter regions contained a significant number of hormone and stress response elements. Further, we found that several members responded positively to salt treatment under single salt and mixed salt stress. Since StPL18 exhibited a consistent expression pattern under both single and mixed salt stress conditions, its subcellular localization was determined. The results indicated that StPL18 is localized in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. The results will establish a foundation for analyzing the functions of potato pectate lyase family members and their expression under salt stress.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have been widely used in photocatalytic hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) production due to their favorable band structure and excellent light absorption. Due to the rapid recombination rate of charge carriers, however, their applications are mainly restricted. This study presents the design and development of two highly conjugated triazine-based COFs (TBP-COF and TTP-COF) and evaluates their photocatalytic H2O2 production performance. The nitrogen-rich structures and high degrees of conjugation of TBP-COF and TTP-COF facilitate improved light absorption, promote O2 adsorption, enhance their redox power, and enable the efficient separation and transfer of photogenerated charge carriers. There is thus an increase in the photocatalytic activity for the production of H2O2. When exposed to 10 W LED visible light irradiation at a wavelength of 420 nm, the pyridine-based TTP-COF produced 4244 μmol h−1 g−1 of H2O2 from pure water in the absence of a sacrificial agent. Compared to TBP-COF (1882 μmol h−1 g−1), which has a similar structure but lacks pyridine sites, TTP-COF demonstrated nearly 2.5 times greater efficiency. Furthermore, it exhibited superior performance compared to most previously published nonmetal COF-based photocatalysts.

Abstract Background Prostate cancer (PC) is the most common cancer in older men in Europe and the United States and has the second highest death rate among male cancers. The transcription of heat shock proteins by Heat shock factor 1 (HSF1) is known to regulate cell growth and stress. Nevertheless, the impact of HSF1 on ferroptosis in PC through heat shock protein 10 (HSPE1) remains unexplored. Methods This study employed a range of analytical techniques, including proteomics sequencing, LC–MS/MS, CHIP-qPCR, Western blotting, immunohisto -chemistry, JC-1, CKK-8, MDA, and ROS assays. Bioinformatics analysis was performed using the UALCAN,GEPIA, PCaDB and Metascape platforms. Results Compared with levels observed in tumor-adjacent tissue, the levels of proteins associated with fatty acids, amino acids and the oxidative phosphorylation metabolic pathway were significantly upregulated in high-risk PC tissue (Gleason score ≥ 8). HSF1 mRNA and protein levels in high-risk PC tissues were significantly higher than those observed in medium-risk PC (Gleason score = 7) and low-risk PC (Gleason score ≤ 6) tissues. ssGSEA showed that HSF1 was involved in the proliferation and anti-apoptotic processes of PC. Further bioinformatics analysis showed that HSF1 potentially affects the mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) system by targeting HSPE1. In addition, HSF1 alleviates ROS and MDA levels to enhance the resistance of prostate cancer cells to ferroptosis by regulating HSPE1 in vitro, and HSF1 knockout promotes the susceptibility of PC to RSL3 treatment by increasing ferroptosis in vivo. Conclusion Collectively, our findings suggest that HSF1 exerts a significant influence on PC. HSF1 may represent a promising biomarker for identifying high-risk PC, and the elimination of HSF1 could potentially enhance the therapeutic effectiveness of RSL3.

Tellurium is used for optimizing sulfide inclusion morphology in the iron and steel industry. In this study, the effects of tellurium on sulfide inclusion, microstructure, mechanical properties, fatigue performance, machinability, and corrosion resistance of industrial 38MnVS bars were investigated. The results show that the weight ratio of Te/S of the tellurium-treated steel was 0.043. Further, tellurium was mainly in the form of an MnS substitutional atom. The MnS inclusions were refined and strengthened via tellurium modification, promoting ferrite transformation and refinement. Additionally, the yield strength increased, and the elongation anisotropy decreased slightly after tellurium modification. However, the tellurium modification had an insignificant effect on the ultimate tensile strength. The ferrite refinement also promoted fatigue performance. Moreover, tellurium modification is beneficial for machinability. The cutting force was reduced, and the surface quality was improved after tellurium modification. Under the tellurium content conditions described herein, tellurium modification has an insignificant effect on corrosion resistance. The suggested tellurium content is below 0.075 times sulfur content for medium carbon microalloyed steels.

The key aim of this paper is to provide a new nth generalized order perturbed isogeometric fast multistage technique of boundary elements to compute the propagation of time harmonics in an infinite region. Structural geometry and boundary integral equations are constructed by using non-uniform rational B-splines. The source of system uncertainty is believed to be the incident plane wave number’s unpredictability. The actual field, depending on the input random variables, is simulated using the extended nth-order perturbation method. The field and kernel values for boundary integral formulas are generated via the nth-order generalized series of Taylor expansions using perturbation parameters. The fast multipole method (FMM) is utilized to speed up the process. The effectiveness and correctness of the proposed algorithm are verified by Monte Carlo simulations (MCs) with numerical examples.

Background. Advancements in medical technology, healthcare delivery, and organ allocation resulted in improved patient/graft survival for older (age ≥65) kidney transplant (KT) recipients. However, the recent trends in these post-KT outcomes are uncertain in light of the mounting burden of cardiovascular disease, changing kidney allocation policies, heterogeneity in candidates’ risk profile, and the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. Thus, we examined secular trends in post-KT outcomes among older and younger KT recipients over the last 3 decades. Methods. We identified 73 078 older and 378 800 younger adult (aged 18–64) recipients using Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (1990–2022). KTs were grouped into 6 prepandemic eras and 1 postpandemic-onset era. Kaplan-Meier and Cox proportional hazards models were used to examine temporal trends in post-KT mortality and death-censored graft failure. Results. From 1990 to 2022, a 19-fold increase in the proportion of older KT recipients was observed compared to a 2-fold increase in younger adults despite a slight decline in the absolute number of older recipients in 2020. The mortality risk for older recipients between 2015 and March 14, 2020, was 39% (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR] = 0.61, 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.50-0.75) lower compared to 1990–1994, whereas that for younger adults was 47% lower (aHR = 0.53, 95% CI, 0.48-0.59). However, mortality risk during the pandemic was 25% lower (aHR = 0.75, 95% CI, 0.61-0.93) in older adults and 37% lower in younger adults (aHR = 0.63, 95% CI, 0.56-0.70) relative to 1990–1994. For both populations, the risk of graft failure declined over time and was unaffected during the pandemic relative to the preceding period. Conclusions. The steady improvements in 5-y mortality and graft survival were disrupted during the pandemic, particularly among older adults. Specifically, mortality among older adults reflected rates seen 20 y prior.

In this paper, we studied the initiation of crevice corrosion of hydrogen-charged 2507 and investigated the effect of different Na2MoO4 concentrations on crevice corrosion. It was found that Na2MoO4 inhibits the adverse effect of hydrogen and enhances the inhibition of crevice corrosion. In addition, hydrogen-charged 2507 crevice corrosion initiates in the austenite phase. While Na2MoO4 improves the crevice corrosion resistance of both phases, crevice corrosion initiation sites changed in reverse, initiating in the ferrite phase.

In recent years, Doppler-only sensors have demonstrated an excellent estimation performance for target tracking. Most of the existing tracking algorithms that utilize Doppler sensors rely on the assumption that sensors capture only measurement errors, disregarding measurement biases. However, in many practical situations, there can be significant measurement biases, which can severely compromise the performance of target state estimation. Recognizing this issue, the study proposes a new joint estimation algorithm that is exclusively reliant on Doppler-only sensors. The proposed algorithm not only provides the estimated results of the target state, but also the measurement bias of the Doppler sensor in use. The approach unfolds in two stages: the first stage is to estimate the target state without considering the measurement bias; the second is to perform bias compensation using the least squares method, and the target state and measurement bias are jointly estimated by linearization of the measurement equation. To validate the efficacy of this method, we analyzed the Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) for measurement bias estimation and designed simulations under both static and moving sensor scenarios to assess its performance. The results indicate that the proposed algorithm can effectively estimate the target state, outperforming Kalman filter (KF) in both the moving and static sensor scenario. The root mean square error (RMSE) of the bias estimation can approach the CRLB.

To evaluate the lifetime and reliability of long-life, high-reliability products under limited resources, accelerated degradation testing (ADT) technology has been widely applied. Furthermore, the Bayesian evaluation method for ADT can comprehensively utilize historical information and overcome the limitations caused by small sample sizes, garnering significant attention from scholars. However, the traditional ADT Bayesian evaluation method has inherent shortcomings and limitations. Due to the constraints of small samples and an incomplete understanding of degradation mechanisms or accelerated mechanisms, the selected evaluation model may be inaccurate, leading to potentially inaccurate evaluation results. Therefore, describing and quantifying the impact of model uncertainty on evaluation results is a challenging issue that urgently needs resolution in the theoretical research of ADT Bayesian methods. This article addresses the issue of model uncertainty in the ADT Bayesian evaluation process. It analyzes the modeling process of ADT Bayesian and proposes a new model averaging evaluation method for ADT Bayesian based on relative entropy, which, to a certain extent, can resolve the issue of evaluation inaccuracy caused by model selection uncertainty. This study holds certain theoretical and engineering application value for conducting ADT Bayesian evaluation under model uncertainty.

The accelerated degradation testing (ADT) Bayesian evaluation method comprehensively utilizes product degradation data under accelerated stress levels collected over a short period of time and multiple sources of prior information, such as historical information, similar product information, simulation information, etc., to conduct life and reliability evaluation. Through the prior distribution, prior information affects the ADT Bayesian evaluation results ultimately. However, different evaluators may obtain different prior distributions based on the same prior information due to varying experiences or rules, which may lead to differences in the ADT Bayesian evaluation results. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze and study the impact of prior distribution uncertainty on the ADT Bayesian evaluation results while also finding criteria to judge the quality of prior distributions. This paper focuses on the ADT Bayesian evaluation method based on the Wiener process and the Arrhenius relation, studying the influence of different prior distributions on the robustness of ADT Bayesian evaluation results. Additionally, based on the deviance information criterion (DIC), a criterion for selecting prior distributions in the ADT Bayesian evaluation method is proposed. Through carrying out uncertainty analysis of prior distribution in the ADT Bayesian evaluation method, a theoretical system and framework for analyzing prior uncertainty in ADT Bayesian evaluation based on DIC are established, providing a better foundation for the practical application of the ADT Bayesian evaluation method in engineering.

The combination of multiple imaging methods has made an indelible contribution to the diagnosis, surgical navigation, treatment, and prognostic evaluation of various diseases. Due to the unique advantages of luminogens with aggregation-induced emission (AIE), their progress has been significant in the field of organic fluorescent contrast agents. Herein, this manuscript summarizes the recent advancements in AIE molecules as contrast agents for optical image-based dual/multi-modal imaging. We particularly focus on the exceptional properties of each material and the corresponding application in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

As a class of short non-coding ribonucleic acids (RNAs), microRNAs (miRNA) regulate gene expression in human cells and are expected to be nucleic acid drugs to regulate and treat a variety of biological processes and diseases. However, the issues with potential materials toxicity, quantity production, poor cellular uptake, and endosomal entrapment limit their further applications in clinical practice. Herein, ZIF-8, a metal-organic framework with noncytotoxic zinc (II) as the metal coordination center, was selected as miRNA delivery vector was used to prepare miR-200c-3p@ZIF-8 in one step by Y-shape microfluidic chip to achieve intracellular release with low toxicity, batch size, and efficient cellular uptake. The obtained miR-200c-3p@ZIF-8 was identified by TEM, particle size analysis, XRD, XPS, and zeta potential. Compared with the traditional hydrothermal method, the encapsulation efficiency of miR-200c-3p@ZIF-8 prepared by the microfluidic method is higher, and the particle size is more uniform and controllable. The experimental results in cellular level verified that the ZIF-8 vectors with low cytotoxicity and high miRNAs loading efficiency could significantly improve cellular uptake and endosomal escape of miRNAs, providing a robust and general strategy for nucleic acid drug delivery. Abstract Background Hypospadias is a common congenital malformation in pediatric urology with surgery being the only curative treatment. Although there are hundreds of surgical methods for hypospadias, no single method can treat all types, and there are still high rates of postoperative complications. We performed this study to investigate surgical procedure selection and perform risk factor analysis of postoperative complications in hypospadias repair. Methods Retrospective analysis was performed of complete clinical and follow-up data of children with hypospadias who were treated and followed up at 15 children’s clinical centers in Mainland China from December 2018 to December 2019. Children were divided into groups according to Barcat classification and surgical methods in order to analyze the surgical choice for different types of hypospadias and the influencing factors of different surgical methods for complications. Results In total, 1011 patients were followed up for 26 months. According to Barcat classification, there were 248 cases of distal type hypospadias, 214 of intermediate, and 549 of proximal type. Transverse preputial island flap urethroplasty (Duckett) and tubularized incised plate urethroplasty (TIP) were performed in 375 (37.1%) and 336 cases (33.2%), respectively. The postoperative complication rate of distal hypospadias was 23.4% (15.8–57.1%), mid shaft 29.0% (22.7–40.0%), and proximal 43.7% (30.2–52.9%). Among the 375 patients in Duckett group, 192 had complications. Crevice corrosion behaviors of duplex stainless steel 2205 after hydrogen charging are investigated. The absorbed hydrogen is introduced into the specimens through cathodic galvanostatic method. It has been found the absorbed hydrogen decreases the critical crevice corrosion conditions (breakdown potential, temperature, and chloride ions content), the stable propagation potential, and the repassivation potential. The results reveal that hydrogen can promote the initiation and propagation stages and inhibit the repassivation process of crevice corrosion. Microstructure observation and element distribution analysis find that, owing to the promotion of hydrogen on the precipitation of insoluble molybdenum oxides and molybdate at the bottom of corrosion positions, crevice corrosion of the hydrogen charged specimens exhibits wider but shallower morphologies compared with the uncharged specimens.

BackgroundA comprehensive understanding of the anatomical variations in the pulmonary bronchi and arteries is particularly essential to the implementation of safe and precise left superior division segment (LSDS) segmentectomy. However, no report shows the relationship between the descending bronchus and the artery crossing intersegmental planes. Thus, the purpose of the present study was to analyze the branching pattern of the pulmonary artery and bronchus in LSDS using three-dimensional computed tomography bronchography and angiography (3D-CTBA) and to explore the associated pulmonary anatomical features of the artery crossing intersegmental planes.Materials and methodsThe 3D-CTBA images of 540 cases were retrospectively analyzed. We reviewed the anatomical variations of the LSDS bronchus and artery and assorted them according to different classifications.ResultsAmong all 540 cases of 3D-CTBA, there were 16 cases (44.4%) with lateral subsegmental artery crossing intersegmental planes (AX3a), 20 cases (55.6%) Without AX3a in the descending B3a or B3 type, and 53 cases (10.5%) with AX3a, 451 cases (89.5%) Without AX3a in the Without the descending B3a or B3 type. This illustrated that the AX3a was more common in the descending B3a or B3 type (P < 0.005). Similarly, there were 69 cases (36.1%) with horizontal subsegmental artery crossing intersegmental planes (AX1 + 2c), 122 cases (63.9%) Without AX1 + 2c in the descending B1 + 2c type, and 33 cases (9.5%) with AX1 + 2c, 316 cases (90.5%) Without AX1 + 2c in the Without the descending B1 + 2c type. Combinations of the branching patterns of the AX1 + 2c and the descending B1 + 2c type were significantly dependent (p < 0.005). The combinations of the branching patterns of the AX1 + 2c and the descending B1 + 2c type were frequently observed.ConclusionsThis is the first report to explore the relationship between the descending bronchus and the artery crossing intersegmental planes. In patients with the descending B3a or B3 type, the incidence of the AX3a was increased. Similarly, the incidence of the AX1 + 2c was increased in patients with the descending B1 + 2c type. These findings should be carefully identified when performing an accurate LSDS segmentectomy.

Abstract Seismically generated sound waves that propagate through the ocean are used to infer temperature anomalies and their vertical structure in the deep East Indian Ocean. These T waves are generated by earthquakes off Sumatra and received by hydrophone stations off Diego Garcia and Cape Leeuwin. Between repeating earthquakes, a T wave's travel time changes in response to temperature anomalies along the wave's path. What part of the water column the travel time is sensitive to depends on the frequency of the wave, so measuring travel time changes at a few low frequencies constrains the vertical structure of the inferred temperature anomalies. These measurements reveal anomalies due to equatorial waves, mesoscale eddies, and decadal warming trends. By providing direct constraints on basin‐scale averages with dense sampling in time, these data complement previous point measurements that alias local and transient temperature anomalies.

BackgroundWith the development of anatomical segmentectomy, the thoracic surgeons must master the anatomical variations of the pulmonary bronchi and vessels. However, there are only a few reports showing anatomic variations of the lingular segment (LS) using three-dimensional computed tomography bronchography and angiography (3D-CTBA). Thus, the present study aimed to analyze the bronchovascular patterns of the LS and explore the correlation between the lingular segment artery (LSA) and left superior division veins (LSDV).Materials and methodsThe 3D-CTBA data of the left upper lobe (LUL) were collected from patients who had undergone lobectomy or segmentectomy at Hebei General Hospital between October 2020 and October 2022. We reviewed the clinical characteristics and variations in bronchi and pulmonary vessels and grouped them according to different classifications.ResultsAmong all 540 cases of 3D-CTBA, the branching patterns of LSA included 369 (68.3%) cases with the interlobar origin, 126 (23.3%) cases with the interlobar and mediastinal origin, and 45 (8.3%) cases with the mediastinal origin. The branching pattern of LSDV could be classified into three forms: Semi-central vein type (345/540, 63.9%), Non-central vein type (76/540, 14.1%), and Central vein type (119/540, 22.0%). There were 51 cases (9.4%) with Non-central vein type, 50 cases (9.3%) with Central vein type, 268 cases (49.6%) with Semi-central vein type in the interlobar type, and 7 cases (1.3%) with Non-central vein type, 9 cases (1.7%) with Central vein type, 29 cases (5.4%) with Semi-central vein type in the mediastinal type. IntroductionLung metastasis occurs in parts of the bladder carcinoma (BC) patients but represents the highest severity and a poor outcome of the disease. The molecular mechanism underlying lung metastasis of BC is not fully understood. Fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (FGFR2) signaling plays a substantial role in the BC cell growth and invasion. In this study, we assessed the regulation of the alternative splicing of FGFR2 by epithelial splicing regulatory proteins (ESRPs) in lung metastasis of BC.MethodsGene profile of BC in comparison with adjacent non-tumor bladder tissue was obtained from GEO public database to analyze the levels of differentiated genes and pathways. Moreover, the association of ESRP1 or ESRP2 with lung metastasis of BC was analyzed on our own clinic samples. The effects of altered expression of ESRP1 or ESRP2 on alternative splicing of FGFR2 IIIb and IIIc, which represents epithelial and mesenchymal-like splicing, were analyzed on BC cell lines T24 and RT4. The in vivo effects of ESRP1 or ESRP2 on lung metastasis of BC were assessed in mice subcutaneously grafted with ESRP1/2-modified BC labeled with fluorescent and luciferase reporters.ResultsWe detected significant reduction of ESRP1 and ESRP2 in BC in public database of BC specimens. Moreover, analysis on our own specimens also showed strong downregulation of ESRP1 or ESRP2 in BC, and the latter was more pronounced in cases with lung metastasis. In vitro, altered levels of ESRP1 or ESRP2 caused a switch of FGFR2 splicing between FGFR2-IIIb and FGFR2-IIIc, resulting in changes in tumor cell growth and metastatic potential. In vivo, re-expression of ESRP1 or ESRP2 in BC cells not only inhibited the growth of the xenografted tumor formation in nude mice, but also reduced the occurrence of lung metastasis, partially through altering polarization of tumor-associated macrophages.ConclusionOur data thus suggest that reduction in ESRP1 or ESRP2 promotes lung metastasis of BC through altering FGFR2 splicing and macrophage polarization.

Prostate cancer stands as one of the most prevalent malignancies afflicting men worldwide. The tumor microenvironment plays a pivotal role in tumor progression, comprising various cell types including endothelial cells, tumor-associated fibroblasts, and macrophages. Recent accumulating evidence underscores the indispensable contribution of endothelial cells to prostate cancer development. Both endothelial cells and tumor cells release a multitude of factors that instigate angiogenesis, metastasis, and even drug resistance in prostate cancer. These factors serve as regulators within the tumor microenvironment and represent potential therapeutic targets for managing prostate cancer. In this review, we provide an overview of the crucial functions of endothelial cells in angiogenesis, metastasis, and drug resistance, and their prospective therapeutic applications in combating this disease.

Measuring the similarity between two trajectories is fundamental and essential for the similarity-based remaining useful life (RUL) prediction. Most previous methods do not adequately account for the epistemic uncertainty caused by asynchronous sampling, while others have strong assumption constraints, such as limiting the positional deviation of sampling points to a fixed threshold, which biases the results considerably. To address the issue, an uncertain ellipse model based on the uncertain theory is proposed to model the location of sampling points as an observation drawn from an uncertain distribution. Based on this, we propose a novel and effective similarity measure metric for any two degradation trajectories. Then, the Stacked Denoising Autoencoder (SDA) model is proposed for RUL prediction, in which the models can be first trained on the most similar degradation data and then fine-tuned by the target dataset. Experimental results show that the predictive performance of the new method is superior to prior methods based on edit distance on real sequence (EDR), longest common subsequence (LCSS), or dynamic time warping (DTW) and is more robust at different sampling rates.

Water percolation usually occurs in soil, making it highly challenging to simultaneously monitor and verify the water percolation process in real-time. We propose employing electrical resistivity tomography and the photography technique, respectively, to visualize and validate water percolation. An experiment was conducted to monitor water percolation in sand within a transparent glass trough using electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) and photography techniques. The experimental results show that the relatively low-resistivity anomalies in the electrical resistivity profiles and correction electrical resistivity profiles, derived from the experimental data, have a half-ellipse shape, while the wetting areas captured in the photographs exhibit a bulb-shaped pattern. The relatively low-electrical-resistivity anomaly areas delineated by the 2000 Ω·m contour line in the electrical resistivity profiles and the 120 Ω·m contour line in the correction electrical resistivity profiles exhibit a remarkable correspondence with the wetting areas captured in the simultaneous photographs. Our findings show that the ERT and photography techniques are suitable for the real-time monitoring and simultaneous verification of water percolation in sand within a narrow glass trough.

BackgroundThe presence of a high left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD) has been linked to a less favorable outcome in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedures. However, by taking into consideration the reference of left ventricular size and volume measurements relative to the patient's body surface area (BSA), it has been suggested that the accuracy of the predicting outcomes may be improved. ObjectiveWe propose that BSA weighted LVEDD (bLVEDD) is a more accurate predictor of outcomes in patients undergoing CABG compared to simply using LVEDD alone. MethodsThis study was a comprehensive retrospective cohort study that was conducted across multiple medical centers. The inclusion criteria for this study were patients who were admitted for treatment between October 2016 and May 2021. Only elective surgery patients were included in the study, while those undergoing emergency surgery were not considered. All participants in the study received standard care, and their clinical data were collected through the institutional registry in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons National Adult Cardiac Database. bLVEDD was defined as LVEDD divided by BSA. The primary outcome was in-hospital all-cause mortality (30 days), and the secondary outcomes were postoperative severe adverse events, including use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, multiorgan failure, use of intra-aortic balloon pump, postoperative stroke, and postoperative myocardial infarction. IntroductionPolycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is the most common reproductive endocrine disorder among women of reproductive age, which is one of the main causes of anovulatory infertility. Even though the rapidly developed assisted reproductive technology (ART) could effectively solve fertility problems, some PCOS patients still have not obtained satisfactory clinical outcomes. The poor quality of oocytes caused by the abnormal follicular development of PCOS may directly contribute to the failure of ART treatment. Ovarian granulosa cells (GCs) are the most closely related cells to oocytes, and changes in their functional status have a direct impact on oocyte formation. Previous studies have shown that changes in the ovarian microenvironment, like oxidative stress and inflammation, may cause PCOS-related aberrant follicular development by impairing the physiological state of the GCs. Therefore, optimizing the ovarian microenvironment is a feasible method for enhancing the development potential of PCOS oocytes.MethodsIn this study, we first detected the expression of inflammatory-related factors (TGF-β1, IL-10, TNFα, IL-6) and oxidative stress-related factors (HIF-1α and VEGFA), as well as the proliferation ability and apoptosis level of GCs, which were collected from control patients (non-PCOS) and PCOS patients, respectively. Subsequently, human ovarian granulosa cell line (KGN) cells were used to verify the anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative stress effects of chitosan oligosaccharide (COS) on GCs, as well as to investigate the optimal culture time and concentration of COS. The optimal culture conditions were then used to culture GCs from PCOS patients and control patients.ResultsThe results showed that GCs from PCOS patients exhibited obvious inflammation and oxidative stress and significantly reduced proliferation and increased apoptosis. Furthermore, COS can increase the expression of anti-inflammatory factors (TGF-β1 and IL-10) and decrease the expression of pro-inflammatory factors (TNFα and IL-6), as well as promote the proliferation of GCs. Moreover, we found that COS can reduce the level of reactive oxygen species in GCs under oxidative stress by inhibiting the expression of HIF-1α and VEGFA and by suppressing the apoptosis of GCs induced by oxidative stress.ConclusionWe find that inflammation and oxidative stress exist in the GCs of PCOS patients, and COS can reduce these factors, thereby improving the function of GCs.

BackgroundWith the prevalence of three-dimensional computed tomography bronchography and angiography (3D-CTBA) and the development of anatomical segmentectomy, studies have confirmed the increased incidence of anomalous veins in patients with tracheobronchial abnormalities. Nevertheless, the characteristic anatomical correlation between bronchus and artery variation remains unknown. Thus, we conducted a retrospective study to investigate recurrent artery crossing intersegmental planes and their associated pulmonary anatomical features by analyzing the incidence and types of the right upper lobe (RUL) bronchus and the artery composition of the posterior segment.Materials and MethodsA total of 600 patients with ground-glass opacity who had undergone 3D-CTBA preoperatively at Hebei General Hospital between September 2020 and September 2022 were included. We reviewed the anatomical variations of the RUL bronchus and artery in these patients using 3D-CTBA images.ResultsAmong all 600 cases, the defective and splitting B2 contained four types of the RUL bronchial structure: B1 + BX2a, B2b, B3 (11/600, 1.8%); B1, B2a, BX2b + B3 (3/600, 0.5%); B1 + BX2a, B3 + BX2b (18/600, 3%); B1, B2a, B2b, B3 type (29/600, 4.8%). Kurtogram is a typical fault diagnosis algorithm, and its derivative methods are widely used in bearing fault signal processing. The key to such methods is to select the indexes that are specifically sensitive to periodic fault characteristics. The traditional time domain kurtosis index is too sensitive to non-periodic transient impulses, and the frequency domain index is too sensitive to harmonic components, which seriously affects the selection of resonance frequency band and the extraction of fault features. In view of this, a polynomial detrended autocorrelation kurtosis of 1.5D spectrum is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the original signal is decomposed by wavelet packet decomposition, and the 1.5D spectrum of each subband signal is calculated. Then, the 1.5D spectral autocorrelation coefficient of each subband is calculated, and the trend term is removed from the specific interval of autocorrelation coefficient by polynomial fitting. Finally, the kurtosis of the autocorrelation coefficient after removing the trend term is calculated to select the optimal resonance frequency band for analysis, so as to extract the fault feature information. The experimental data show that this method is sensitive to the fault characteristic frequency and frequency doubling with coupling relationship, and can suppress non-periodic transient impulse and harmonic interference.

Abstract Solitary wave is often used to simulate tsunami propagating in deep water and breaking solitary wave is often used to simulate tsunami bore propagating in shallow water or on land. The breaking solitary wave force on box-girder, which has been widely used in bridge engineering in coastal areas of China, receives few attentions. This study aims to investigate characteristics and generation mechanism of breaking solitary wave force on box-girder numerically. A numerical wave flume with a 1:20 slope was built firstly, then the solitary wave generation ability, wave deformation and wave breaking on the slope, as well as wave force calculation precision, are validated. The water depth 0.6 m, the slope gradient 1:20 and the distance between slope top and box-girder 2.0 m remain unchanged, while the wave height and clearance changes in different cases. The time histories of horizontal force and vertical force on box-girder can be divided into three and four stages respectively according to their characteristics. The surface of box-girder is decomposed into a series of panels to facilitate exploring tsunami bore force generation mechanism. Results show horizontal force is dominated by static pressure on upstream vertical panels and vertical force is mainly contributed by static pressure on upstream horizontal panels and on panels in the chambers. Tsunami bore overtopping the box-girder deck impacts the top panel vigorously and results in the peak value of negative vertical force.

Compliant and soft sensors that detect machinal deformations become prevalent in emerging soft robots for closed-loop feedback control. In contrast to conventional sensing applications, the stretchy body of the soft robot enables programmable actuating behaviors and automated manipulations across a wide strain range, which poses high requirements for the integrated sensors of customized sensor characteristics, high-throughput data processing, and timely decision-making. As various soft robotic sensors (strain, pressure, shear, etc.) meet similar challenges, in this perspective, we choose strain sensor as a representative example and summarize the latest advancement of strain sensor-integrated soft robotic design driven by machine learning techniques, including sensor materials optimization, sensor signal analyses, and in-sensor computing. These machine learning implementations greatly accelerate robot automation, reduce resource consumption, and expand the working scenarios of soft robots. We also discuss the prospects of fusing machine learning and soft sensing technology for creating next-generation intelligent soft robots.

Rationale & Objective: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had a profound impact on hospitalizations in general and on dialysis patients in particular. This study modeled the impact of COVID-19 on hospitalizations of dialysis patients in 2020. Study Design: Retrospective cohort study. Setting & Participants: Medicare patients on dialysis in calendar year 2020. Predictors: COVID-19 status was divided into 4 stages: COVID1 (first 10 days after initial diagnosis), COVID2 (extends until the Post-COVID stage), Post-COVID (after 21 days with no COVID-19 diagnosis), and Late-COVID (begins after a hospitalization with a COVID-19 diagnosis); demographic and clinical characteristics; and dialysis facilities. Outcome: The sequence of hospitalization events. Analytical Approach: A proportional rate model with a nonparametric baseline rate function of calendar time on the study population. Results: A total of 509,609 patients were included in the study, 63,521 were observed to have a SARS-CoV-2 infection, 34,375 became Post-COVID, and 1,900 became Late-COVID. Compared with No-COVID, all 4 stages had significantly greater adjusted risks of hospitalizations with relative rates of 18.50 (95% CI, 18.19-18.81) for COVID1, 2.03 (95% CI, 1.99-2.08) for COVID2, 1.37 (95% CI, 1.35-1.40) for Post-COVID, and 2.00 (95% CI, 1.89-2.11) for Late-COVID. Limitations: For Medicare Advantage patients, we only had inpatient claim information. The analysis was based on data from the year 2020, and the effects may have changed due to vaccinations, new treatments, and new variants. The COVID-19 effects may be somewhat overestimated due to missing information on patients with few or no symptoms and possible delay in COVID-19 diagnosis. Conclusions: We discovered a marked time dependence in the effect of COVID-19 on hospitalization of dialysis patients, beginning with an extremely high risk for a relatively short period, with more moderate but continuing elevated risks later, and never returning to the No-COVID level.

Background: Naples Prognostic Score (NPS) is a novel score based on inflammatory-nutritional indicators. We aimed to analyze the prognostic value of the Naples Prognostic Score in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients following surgery. Methods: A total of 319 NSCLCpatients following surgery were analyzed in the retrospective cohort study. We analyzed the predictive value of Naples Prognostic Score for overall survival and recurrence-free survival in postoperative non-small cell lung cancer patients by using Kaplan-Meier survival curves and multivariate Cox regression analysis. At the same time, the time-dependent ROC and the area under curves were also created to compare the accuracy of different scoring systems. Results: According to NPS, we divided all patients into 3 groups，120 patients were divided into group 0, 161 patients were divided into group 1, and 38 patients were divided into group 2. The median survival time for all patients is 32 months, and the median survival times for different groups were 35 months, 31 months, and 28 months, respectively. The overall survival and recurrence-free survival survival curves of different groups were significantly different (both P < .05), and patients in the higher NPS groups had a disappointing prognosis. BackgroundIdentifying caregiver availability, particularly for patients with dementia or those with a disability, is critical to informing the appropriate care planning by the health systems, hospitals, and providers. This information is not readily available, and there is a paucity of pragmatic approaches to automatically identifying caregiver availability and type. ObjectiveOur main objective was to use medical notes to assess caregiver availability and type for hospitalized patients with dementia. Our second objective was to identify whether the patient lived at home or resided at an institution. MethodsIn this retrospective cohort study, we used 2016-2019 telephone-encounter medical notes from a single institution to develop a rule-based natural language processing (NLP) algorithm to identify the patient’s caregiver availability and place of residence. Using note-level data, we compared the results of the NLP algorithm with human-conducted chart abstraction for both training (749/976, 77%) and test sets (227/976, 23%) for a total of 223 adults aged 65 years and older diagnosed with dementia. Our outcomes included determining whether the patients (1) reside at home or in an institution, (2) have a formal caregiver, and (3) have an informal caregiver. ResultsTest set results indicated that our NLP algorithm had high level of accuracy and reliability for identifying whether patients had an informal caregiver (F1=0.94, accuracy=0.95, sensitivity=0.97, and specificity=0.93), but was relatively less able to identify whether the patient lived at an institution (F1=0.64, accuracy=0.90, sensitivity=0.51, and specificity=0.98). The most common explanations for NLP misclassifications across all categories were (1) incomplete or misspelled facility names; (2) past, uncertain, or undecided status; (3) uncommon abbreviations; and (4) irregular use of templates. ConclusionsThis innovative work was the first to use medical notes to pragmatically determine caregiver availability. Our NLP algorithm identified whether hospitalized patients with dementia have a formal or informal caregiver and, to a lesser extent, whether they lived at home or in an institutional setting. There is merit in using NLP to identify caregivers. This study serves as a proof of concept. Future work can use other approaches and further identify caregivers and the extent of their availability.

As cyberspace has become an important factor in modern-day life, the impact of the Internet on residents has also attracted more attention. Based on the data of China Family Panel Studies (CFPS), this study empirically examines the impact of Internet use on Chinese residents’ subjective well-being (SWB) from a multi-dimensional perspective. The research found that Internet use had a significant impact on residents’ SWB, which was mainly reflected in job satisfaction, happiness, social ties, and future confidence. The impacts of the Internet’s different application fields are not consistent. Applying its use more in studying, working, socialize and commercial activities has a stronger effect, but has no significant impact on entertainment. Further heterogeneity tests also found that the marginal effect of Internet use increases with age, male and low-income groups can obtain greater benefit from the Internet, and there is almost no difference between urban and rural areas. This research provides micro evidence of the social effects of Internet use and provides enlightenment for how to further promote the quality of Internet use to better benefit people.
