4. Systematic Review of Flood and Drought Literature Based on Science Mapping and Content Analysis

The severity and frequency of flood and drought events have increased in recent decades. These climate change-induced and anthropogenic stressors on water resources represent the leading water-related hazards to communities. Further, the increasing exposure of the population and infrastructure to such events has heightened the risks. Assessing the impact scope of these events in different subfields towards comprehensively evaluating the risks requires an unbiased systematic approach. This paper combines content analysis and science mapping to investigate the existing multidisciplinary body of knowledge on analyzing flood and drought together. Searching the literature using selected search terms yielded a sample of 119 publications. Initially, various contents, such as the authors’ keywords, applied methods and indices, and study scale, were extracted from these articles. These contents were then incorporated into the science mapping technique to form communicative networks. Analyzing these publications revealed 13 major research themes, with a sustained focus on hydrological issues. However, a more diverse range of themes was recently revealed, including economy, sociology, insurance, and policymaking. Producing such computational and visual networks explained informative insights that can help further develop both existing and new frameworks to support the management, design and policymaking sectors in responding to both flood and drought events.

- Abstract
The gut microbiome-metabolites-kidney axis is a potential target for treating diabetic kidney disease (DKD). Our previous study found that Liraglutide attenuated DKD in rats by decreasing renal tubular ectopic lipid deposition (ELD) and serum metabolites levels, including L-5-Oxoproline (5-OP). However, the response of gut microbiome-metabolites-kidney axis to Liraglutide in DKD rats and the effect of 5-OP on ELD remain unknown. In this study, Sprague-Dawley rats were used as an animal model of DKD. They were subjected to a high fat diet, streptozotocin and uninephrectomy, followed by Liraglutide treatment (0.4 mg/kg d). Additionally, HK-2 cells were incubated with 30 mM glucose and 200 μM palmitate for 24h, and exposed to different concentrations of 5-OP. In DKD rats, Liraglutide dramatically improved the renal tubule structure. It increased the Simpson index (F = 4.487, p = 0.035) and reduced the Actinobacteria-to-Bacteroidetes ratio (F = 6.189, p = 0.014). At the genus level, Liraglutide increased the relative abundance of Clostridium, Oscillospira, Sarcina, SMB53, and 02d06 while decreasing that of Allobaculum. Meanwhile, 13 metabolites were significantly altered after Liraglutide treatment. Multi-omics analysis found that 5-OP levels were positively correlated with Clostridium abundance but negatively correlated with renal injury related indicators. In HK-2 cells, 5-OP significantly reduced the ELD in a dose-dependent manner through inhibiting the expression of SREBP1 and FAS. Overall, the renoprotective effect of Liraglutide in DKD rats is linked to the improvement of the gut microbiota composition and increased serum 5-OP levels, which may reduce ELD in renal tubular cells by lowering lipid synthesis., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest None., (Copyright © 2024. 8. Association of hemoglobin glycation index with clinical outcomes in patients with coronary artery disease: a prospective cohort study.

- Abstract
Background: To analyze the association between the hemoglobin glycation index (HGI) and the long-term prognosis of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD)., Methods: HGI represented the difference between laboratory measured Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and predicted HbA1c based on a liner regression between Hb1Ac and fasting plasma glucose (FPG). A total of 10 598 patients who treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) were stratified into three groups (low HGI group: HGI<-0.506, medium HGI group: -0.506 ≤ HGI < 0.179, and high HGI group: HGI ≥ 0.179). The primary endpoints includes all-cause mortality (ACM) and cardiac mortality (CM). The secondary endpoints were major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) and major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCEs)., Results: A total of 321 ACMs, 243 CMs, 774 MACEs, and 854 MACCEs were recorded during a 60-month follow-up period. After adjusting for confounders using a multivariate Cox regression analysis, the patients in the low HGI group had a significantly increased risk of ACM (adjusted HR = 1.683, 95%CI:1.179-2.404, P = 0.004) and CM (HR = 1.604, 95%CI:1.064-2.417, P = 0.024) as compared with patients in the medium HGI group. Similarly, the patients in the high HGI group had an increased risk of MACEs (HR = 1.247, 95% CI: 1.023-1.521, P = 0.029) as compared with patients in the medium HGI group. For ACM, CM, and MACEs, a U-shaped relation were found among these three groups. However, we did not find significant differences in the incidence of MACCEs among these three groups., Conclusion: The present study indicates that HGI could be an independent predictor for the risk of mortality and MACEs in patients with CAD., (© 2024. 9. Molecular characterization, spatio-temporal expression patterns of crtc2 gene and its immune roles in yellow catfish (Pelteobagrus fulvidraco).

- Abstract
cAMP response element binding (CREB) protein 2 (CRTC2) is a transcriptional coactivator of CREB and plays an important role in the immune system. Thus far, the physiological roles of Crtc2 in teleost are still poorly understood. In this study, the crtc2 gene was identified and characterized from yellow catfish (Pelteobagrus fulvidraco; therefore, the gene is termed as pfcrtc2), and its evolutionary and molecular characteristics as well as potential immunity-related roles were investigated. Our results showed that the open reading frame of pfcrtc2 was 2346 bp in length, encoding a protein with 781 amino acids. Gene structure analysis revealed its existence of 14 exons and 13 introns. A phylogenetic analysis proved that the tree of crtc2 was clustered into five groups, exhibiting a similar evolutionary topology with species evolution. Multiple protein sequences alignment demonstrated high conservation of the crtc2 in various vertebrates with similar structure. Syntenic and gene structural comparisons further established that crtc2 was highly conserved, implying its similar roles in diverse vertebrates. Tissue distribution pattern detected by quantitative real-time PCR showed that the pfcrtc2 gene was almost expressed in all detected tissues except for eyes, with the highest expression levels in the gonad, indicating that Crtc2 may play important roles in various tissues. In addition, pfcrtc2 was transcribed at all developmental stages in yellow catfish, showing the highest expression levels at 12 h after fertilization. Finally, the transcriptional profiles of crtc2 were significantly increased in yellow catfishes injected with Aeromonas hydrophila or Poly I:C, which shared a consistent change pattern with four immune-related genes including IL-17A, IL-10, MAPKp38, and NF-κBp65, suggesting pfCrtc2 may play critical roles in preventing both exogenous bacteria and virus invasion. 10. Van der Waals Schottky Junction Photodetector with Ultrahigh Rectifying Ratio and Switchable Photocurrent Generation.

- Abstract
Metal-semiconductor junctions play an important role in the development of electronic and optoelectronic devices. A Schottky junction photodetector based on two-dimensional (2D) materials is promising for self-powered photodetection with fast response speed and large signal-to-noise ratio. However, it usually suffers from an uncontrolled Schottky barrier due to the Fermi level pinning effect arising from the interface states. In this work, all-2D Schottky junctions with near-ideal Fermi level depinning are realized, attributed to the high-quality interface between 2D semimetals and semiconductors. We further demonstrate asymmetric diodes based on multilayer graphene/MoS
2 /PtSe2 with a current rectification ratio exceeding 105 and an ideality factor of 1.2. Scanning photocurrent mapping shows that the photocurrent generation mechanism in the heterostructure switches from photovoltaic effect to photogating effect at varying drain biases, indicating both energy conversion and optical sensing are realized in a single device. In the photovoltaic mode, the photodetector is self-powered with a response time smaller than 100 μs under the illumination of a 405 nm laser. In the photogating mode, the photodetector exhibits a high responsivity up to 460 A/W originating from a high photogain. Finally, the photodetector is employed for single-pixel imaging, demonstrating its high-contrast photodetection ability. This work provides insight into the development of high-performance self-powered photodetectors based on 2D Schottky junctions.- Published

11. Characterization of three lamp genes from largemouth bass ( Micropterus salmoides ): molecular cloning, expression patterns, and their transcriptional levels in response to fast and refeeding strategy.

- Abstract
Lysosomes-associated membrane proteins ( LAMPs ), a family of glycosylated proteins and major constituents of the lysosomal membranes, play a dominant role in various cellular processes, including phagocytosis, autophagy and immunity in mammals. However, their roles in aquatic species remain poorly known. In the present study, three lamp genes were cloned and characterized from Micropterus salmoides . Subsequently, their transcriptional levels in response to different nutritional status were investigated. The full-length coding sequences of lamp1 , lamp2 and lamp3 were 1251bp, 1224bp and 771bp, encoding 416, 407 and 256 amino acids, respectively. Multiple sequence alignment showed that LAMP1-3 were highly conserved among the different fish species, respectively. 3-D structure prediction, genomic survey, and phylogenetic analysis were further confirmed that these genes are widely existed in vertebrates. The mRNA expression of the three genes was ubiquitously expressed in all selected tissues, including liver, brain, gill, heart, muscle, spleen, kidney, stomach, adipose and intestine, lamp1 shows highly transcript levels in brain and muscle, lamp2 displays highly expression level in heart, muscle and spleen, but lamp3 shows highly transcript level in spleen, liver and kidney. To analyze the function of the three genes under starvation stress in largemouth bass, three experimental treatment groups (fasted group and refeeding group, control group) were established in the current study. The results indicated that the expression of lamp1 was significant induced after starvation, and then returned to normal levels after refeeding in the liver. The expression of lamp2 and lamp3 exhibited the same trend in the liver. In addition, in the spleen and the kidney, the transcript level of lamp1 and lamp2 was remarkably increased in the fasted treatment group and slightly decreased in the refed treatment group, respectively. 12. Ling-Gui-Zhu-Gan decoction protects against doxorubicin-induced myocardial injury by downregulating ferroptosis.

Objective: To investigate the mechanism of Ling-Gui-Zhu-Gan decoction (LGZGD) protects against doxorubicin (DOX)-induced myocardial injury., Methods: In vivo experiment, rats were divided into six groups: normal group, model group (15 mg/kg, DOX), Dex group(150 mg/kg, Dex), LGZGD-L group (2.1 g/kg), LGZGD-M group (4.2 g/kg), and LGZGD-H group (8.4 g/kg). We used HE and Masson staining to observe the histopathological changes, echocardiography to assess the cardiac function, and western blot and RT-qPCR to detect the expressions of Nrf2, GPX4, Fpn1, and Ptgs2. In vitro experiment, we used immunofluorescence to detect ROS production, and RT-qPCR to detect gene expression of GPX4, Fpn1, and Ptgs2., Key Findings: In vivo, LGZGD improved cardiac systolic function. LGZGD significantly reduced MDA, LDH, and CK levels, increased SOD activity, enhanced the protein expression of Nrf2, GPX4, and Fpn1, and decreased Ptgs2 levels. In vitro, LGZGD-containing serum significantly reduced ROS, increased the gene expression of GPX4 and Fpn1, and decreased the gene expression of Ptgs2. Furthermore, compared with the LGZGD (si-NC) group, the LGZGD (si-Nrf2) group had decreased gene expression of Nrf2, GPX4, and Fpn1 and increased gene expression of Ptgs2., Conclusions: LGZGD can ameliorate DOX-cardiotoxicity by activating the Nrf2 signaling pathway and inhibiting ferroptosis in cardiomyocytes., (© The Author(s) 2024. 13. Unveiling the mechanism of source-sink rebalancing in cucumber-pumpkin heterografts: the buffering roles of rootstock cotyledon.

Grafting onto pumpkin rootstock is widely applied in cucumber production to improve growth and yield, as well as to overcome soil-borne diseases and enhance resistance to abiotic stresses. In this study, we constructed the cucumber-pumpkin heterografts with the one-cotyledon grafting method, and examined the effects of heterografting on biomass allocation and sugar partitioning, with cucumber and pumpkin self-grafts used as control. Compared with cucumber self-grafts, heterografting onto pumpkin rootstock promoted photosynthesis in cucumber scion, and led to higher sucrose contents in the 1st true leaf (source) and newly emerged leaf (sink). Thereby, the scion part of heterografts accumulated more biomass than cucumber self-grafts. In contrast, when compared to pumpkin self-grafts, grafting with cucumber scion reduced root vigor and biomass but promoted cotyledon growth in pumpkin rootstock. The roots (sink) of heterografts contained less sucrose and hexoses, and showed reduced sucrose synthase (SuSy) and hexokinase (HXK) activities. However, the rootstock cotyledon (source) contained more sucrose and starch, and showed higher activities of HXK, cell-wall invertase (CWIN), and enzymes for starch synthesis and degradation. Furthermore, removal or shade of rootstock cotyledon led to reduced growth of root and scion. Silencing of CmoMEX1a gene in rootstock cotyledon inhibited maltose export and reduced root growth of heterografts. These results indicated that rootstock cotyledon, especially its starch content, played a buffering role in the growth regulation of cucumber-pumpkin heterografts. 14. Dietary pattern and risk of hyperuricemia: an updated systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies.

- Abstract
Objectives: The associations of posteriori dietary patterns with the risk of hyperuricemia (HUA) are contradictory. Several fair-quality observational studies with inconsistent results have been published following a prior review. Herein, we carried out an updated systematic review and meta-analysis to quantitatively analyze the aforementioned relationships., Methods: Our analysis protocol has been registered with PROSPEPO (Number: CRD42022376745). English publications were searched in Embase, PubMed, and Web of Science from inception to January 1, 2024. Summary odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated by a random-effects model. We also conducted subgroup, sensitivity, and meta-regression analyses and publication bias assessments., Results: Thirteen studies with a total of 163,192 participants were included in the current meta-analysis. Our finding revealed that the plant-based pattern was linked with a 17% decreased risk of HUA (OR = 0.83, 95%CI = 0.72-0.94, I
2 = 72.9%, n = 10). There was no evidence of publication bias in the present analysis. The results of subgroup analyses were generally consistent with the main findings. In meta-regression analyses, no evidence of heterogeneity was detected in the subgroups. Furthermore, our analyses indicated that the animal-based food pattern (OR = 1.36, 95%CI = 1.25-1.47, I2 = 26.7%, n = 11) and sweet food pattern (OR = 1.24, 95%CI = 1.06-1.46, I2 = 0, n = 2) was related to an increased risk of HUA., Conclusion: The plant-based pattern is inversely correlated with HUA risk, whereas animal-based food patterns and sweet food patterns are positively correlated with HUA risk., Competing Interests: The authors declare that the research was conducted in the absence of any commercial or financial relationships that could be construed as a potential conflict of interest., (Copyright © 2024 Wen, Wei, Sun and Ji.)- Published

15. Bioinspired Jumping Soft Actuators of the Liquid Crystal Elastomer Enabled by Photo-Mechanical Coupling.

- Abstract
Jumping, a fundamental survival behavior observed in organisms, serves as a vital mechanism for adapting to the surrounding environment and overcoming significant obstacles within a given terrain. Here, we present a light-controlled soft jumping actuator inspired by asphondylia, which employs a closed-loop structure and utilizes a liquid crystal elastomer (LCE). Photo-mechanical coupling highlights the significant influence of the light source on the actuator's jumping behavior. Manipulating the light intensity, the relative position of stimulus and light lock, and the concentration of disperse red 1 (DR1) allows precise control over both the maximum take-off velocity and jump height. Furthermore, tailoring the size of the LCE actuator offers a means of regulating jumping behavior. Upon exposure to 460 nm LED irradiation, our actuator achieves remarkable performance, with a maximum jumping height of 10 body length (BL) and take-off velocity of 62 BL/s. These actuators accumulate and rapidly release energy, enabling the effective transportation of microcargos across substantial distances. Our research yields valuable insights into the realm of soft robotics, underscoring the pivotal importance of photo-mechanical coupling in the field of soft robotics, thereby serving as a catalyst for inspiring continued exploration of agile and capable systems by prestoring elastic energy.

16. Rapamycin protects mouse skin from ultraviolet B-induced photodamage by modulating Hspb2-mediated autophagy and apoptosis.

- Abstract
Background: Continuous exposure to UVB is the main extrinsic cause of skin photodamage, which is associated with oxidative stress, DNA damage, apoptosis and degradation of collagen. Rapamycin, a mechanistic target inhibitor of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1), has been shown to play a crucial role anti-tumor and aging retardation, but its mechanism of action in UVB-induced photodamage still remains unknown. In this study, we investigated the role of rapamycin and Hspb2 (also known as Hsp27) in UVB-induced photodamage in mice., Methods and Results: We constructed skin acute photodamage models on the ears of WT and Hspb2 KO mice, respectively, and administered rapamycin treatment. Histological results showed that knockout of the hspb2 exacerbated the skin damage, as evidenced by thickening of the epidermis, breakage and disruption of collagen fibers and reduction in their number, which is reversed by rapamycin treatment. In addition, hspb2 knockout promoted UVB-induced apoptosis and reduced autophagy levels, with a significant increase in p53 levels and Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, a reduction in LC3II/I ratio and an increase in p62 levels in the KO mice compared to those in WT mice after the same dose of UVB irradiation. Rapamycin was also found to inhibit collagen degradation induced by hspb2 knockdown through activation of the TGF-β/Smad signaling pathway., Conclusions: Rapamycin can alleviate skin photodamage from Hspb2 knockout to some extent. It may be a potential therapeutic drug for skin photodamage. In this study, we investigated the role of rapamycin and Hspb2 in UVB-induced photodamage in mice. 17. Shengmai injection inhibits palmitic acid-induced myocardial cell inflammatory death via regulating NLRP3 inflammasome activation.

- Abstract
Objective: To determine the protective effect of Shengmai injection (SMI) on myocardial injury in diabetic rats and its mechanism based on NLRP3/Caspase1 signaling pathway., Materials and Methods: Rat H9c2 cardiomyocytes were cultured in vitro , and the cell survival rate of different concentrations of palmitate acid (PA) and different concentrations of SMI were detected by CCK-8. The myocardial injury cell model was induced with PA, treated with SMI, and combined with NLRP3 specific inhibitor (MCC950) to interfere with the high-fat-induced rat H9c2 myocardial cell injury model. The cell changes were observed by Hoechst/PI staining and the expression levels of MDA, SOD, and ROS in each group were detected. The protein and gene changes of the NLRP3/Caspase-1 signaling pathway were detected by Western blot and RT-qPCR, respectively., Results: 200 μmol/L of PA were selected to induce the myocardial injury cell model and 25 μL/mL of SMI was selected for intervention concentration. SMI could significantly reduce MDA expression, increase SOD level, and decrease ROS production. 18. Modified Kramers-Kronig receiver based on memory polynomial compensation for photonics-assisted millimeter-wave communications.

- Abstract
Photonics-assisted millimeter-wave (MMW) wireless communications are advancing rapidly driven by the escalating congestion in the lower-band spectrum and the growing demand for higher data rates. Concurrently, Kramers-Kronig (KK) receivers provide an economical solution ideally suited for cost-sensitive deployment and application. However, the conventional KK receiver is subject to performance degradation due to the nonlinearity and memory effects introduced by practical electronic devices. In this work, the performance degradation of the conventional KK receiver is investigated and quantitatively simulated, showing that the KK receiver exhibits greater sensitivity to nonlinearity and memory effects compared to the conventional coherent receiver. To enhance the performance of KK receivers deployed in MMW communication systems, we propose a modified KK receiver employing memory polynomial compensation, namely MP-KK receiver, capable of effectively compensating memory effects whilst simultaneously addressing nonlinearity. Crucially, the memory polynomial model is employed prior to the KK algorithm to prevent further signal degradation caused by the nonlinear operator in the KK algorithm in the scenario of photonics-assisted MMW wireless communication based on the KK receiver. For verification, we present a 95 GHz W-band MMW wireless transmission demonstration with 20 Gb/s QPSK and 40 Gb/s 16-QAM signals. The experimental results indicate that the MP-KK receiver can achieve more than 3.5 dB improvement in EVM and 71.25% reduction in BER compared to the conventional approaches.

Gene loss is a prevalent source of genetic variation in genome evolution. Calling loss events effectively and efficiently is a critical step for systematically characterizing their functional and phylogenetic profiles genome wide. Here, we developed a novel pipeline integrating orthologous inference and genome alignment. Interestingly, we identified 33 gene loss events that give rise to evolutionarily novel long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) that show distinct expression features and could be associated with various functions related to growth, development, immunity, and reproduction, suggesting loss relics as a potential source of functional lncRNAs in humans. - Abstract
Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are a class of pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) that can recognize pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PMPs) and play important roles in the innate immune system in vertebrates. In this study, we identified a teleost-specific tlr22 gene from yellow catfish (Pelteobagrus fulvidraco) and its immune roles in response to different pathogens were also determined. The open reading frame (ORF) of the tlr22 was 2892 bp in length, encoding a protein of 963 amino acids. Multiple protein sequences alignment, secondary and three-dimensional structure analyses revealed that TLR22 is highly conserved among different fish species. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the phylogenetic topology was divided into six families of TLR1, TLR3, TLR4, TLR5, TLR7 and TLR11, and TLR22 subfamily was clustered into TLR11 family. Meanwhile, synteny and gene structure comparisons revealed functional and evolutionary conservation of the tlr22 gene in teleosts. Furthermore, tlr22 gene was shown to be widely expressed in detected tissues except barbel and eye, with highest expression level in liver. The transcription of tlr22 was significantly increased in spleen, kidney, liver and gill tissues at different timepoints after Poly I:C infection, suggesting TLR22 plays critical roles in defensing virus invasion. Similarly, the transcription of tlr22 was also dramatically up-regulated in spleen, kidney and gill tissues with different patterns after Aeromonas hydrophila infection, indicating that TLR22 is also involved in resisting bacteria invasion. 21. Current status and prospect of treatments for recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma.

Owing to its heterogeneous and highly aggressive nature, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has a high recurrence rate, which is a non-negligible problem despite the increasing number of available treatment options. Recent clinical trials have attempted to reduce the recurrence and develop innovative treatment options for patients with recurrent HCC. In the event of liver remnant recurrence, the currently available treatment options include repeat hepatectomy, salvage liver transplantation, tumor ablation, transcatheter arterial chemoembolization, stereotactic body radiotherapy, systemic therapies, and combination therapy. In this review, we summarize the strategies to reduce the recurrence of high-risk tumors and aggressive therapies for recurrent HCC. 22. Predicting the Risk of Nail Involvement in Psoriasis Patients: Development and Assessment of a Predictive Nomogram.

Background: Nail involvement has a tremendous impact on psoriasis patients. Early detection and prompt intervention of psoriatic nail damage are necessary., Methods: A total of 4290 patients confirmed to have psoriasis between June 2020 and September 2021 were recruited from the Follow-up Study of Psoriasis database. Among them, 3920 patients were selected and divided into the nail involvement group ( n = 929) and the non-nail involvement group ( n = 2991) by inclusion and exclusion criteria. Univariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to identify the predictors of nail involvement for the nomogram. Calibration plots, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used to evaluate the discriminative and calibrating ability and clinical utility of the nomogram., Results: Sex, age at onset, duration, smoking, drug allergy history, comorbidity, sub-type of psoriasis, scalp involvement, palmoplantar involvement, genital involvement, and PASI score were selected to establish the nomogram for nail involvement. AUROC (0.745; 95% CI: 0.725-0.765) indicated the satisfactory discriminative ability of the nomogram. The calibration curve showed favorable consistency, and the DCA showed the good clinical utility of the nomogram., Conclusion: A predictive nomogram with good clinical utility was developed to assist clinicians in evaluating the risk of nail involvement in psoriasis patients.

Background and Objective: Insomnia is one of the common problems encountered in the hemodialysis (HD) population, but the mechanisms remain unclear. we aimed to (1) detect the spontaneous brain activity pattern in HD patients with insomnia (HDWI) by using fractional fractional amplitude of low frequency fluctuation (fALFF) method and (2) further identify brain regions showing altered fALFF as neural markers to discriminate HDWI patients from those on hemodialysis but without insomnia (HDWoI) and healthy controls (HCs)., Method: We compared fALFF differences among HDWI subjects (28), HDWoI subjects (28) and HCs (28), and extracted altered fALFF features for the subsequent discriminative analysis. Then, we constructed a support vector machine (SVM) classifier to identify distinct neuroimaging markers for HDWI., Results: Compared with HCs, both HDWI and HDWoI patients exhibited significantly decreased fALFF in the bilateral calcarine (CAL), right middle occipital gyrus (MOG), left precentral gyrus (PreCG), bilateral postcentral gyrus (PoCG) and bilateral temporal middle gyrus (TMG), whereas increased fALFF in the bilateral cerebellum and right insula. Conversely, increased fALFF in the bilateral CAL/right MOG and decreased fALFF in the right cerebellum was observed in HDWI patients when compared with HDWoI patients. Moreover, the SVM classification achieved a good performance [accuracy = 82.14%, area under the curve (AUC) = 0.8202], and the consensus brain regions with the highest contributions to classification were located in the right MOG and right cerebellum., Conclusion: Our result highlights that HDWI patients had abnormal neural activities in the right MOG and right cerebellum, which might be potential neural markers for distinguishing HDWI patients from non-insomniacs, providing further support for the pathological mechanism of HDWI., (© 2023. - Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Chinese patent medicines containing Hirudo in the treatment of atherosclerosis(AS) by network Meta-analysis, and to provide evidence-based reference for clinical treatment of AS. The clinical randomized controlled trial(RCT) on the treatment of atherosclerosis with Chinese patent medicines containing Hirudo were searched in CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, SinoMed, PubMed and EMbase from the establishment of the databases to July 1, 2022. And data extraction and quality assessment of the included RCT was performed according to the Cochrane standards. Stata 17 and ADDIS 1.16.5 were then used for Bayesian model network Meta-analysis. Finally, 67 RCTs with a total sample size of 6 826 cases were included, 3 569 cases in the experimental group and 3 257 cases in the control group, involving three oral Chinese patent medicines. Network Meta-analysis showed that in terms of reducing intima-media thickness(IMT), the top three Chinese patent medicines were Tongxinluo Capsules+sta-tins>Maixuekang Capsules+statins>Maixuekang Capsules. In terms of reducing plaque area, the top one was Maixuekang Capsules+sta-tins, and the other Chinese patent medicines had similar efficacy. For lowering AS Crouse scores, the top three were Maixuekang Capsules>Tongxinluo Capsules+statins>Naoxintong Capsules. For decreasing plaque number, the top three were Naoxintong Capsules+sta-tins>Tongxinluo Capsules+statins>Tongxinluo Capsules. With regard to adverse reactions/events, Naoxintong Capsules+statins had the lo-west incidence. In conclusion, in Chinese patent medicines containing Hirudo for the treatment of AS, Tongxinluo Capsules+statins, Maixuekang Capsules, Maixuekang Capsules+statins, and Naoxintong Capsules+statins were the primary choices to reduce IMT, AS Crouse scores, plaque area, and plaque number, respectively. The efficacy of Chinese patent medicines containing Hirudo with or without statins was more significant than that of statins alone in the four outcome indexes. Additionally, the treatment of AS should be evaluated comprehensively, and attention should be paid to Chinese patent medicines or their combination with western medicine, to optimize the treatment effect and minimize adverse reactions as the benchmark.

25. Association between pre-diagnostic dietary copper, zinc, and copper-to-zinc ratio and severity of ovarian cancer.

- Abstract
Background: The impact of dietary trace elements intake on ovarian cancer (OC) severity is unknown., Objective: We firstly explore the relationship between dietary copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), and copper-to-zinc (Cu/Zn) ratio and severity of OC., Methods: This cross-sectional study included 701 women from the OC follow-up study between 2015 and 2020. Dietary information was collected by a validated food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). The severity information of OC including age at diagnosis, histological type, International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage, and histopathologic grade was ascertained from medical records. Logistic regression model was used to estimate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of aforementioned associations., Results: Among 701 participants, the number of patients age at diagnosis older than 50 were 443 (63.2%). The number of patients diagnosed as serous, III-IV stage, and poorly differentiation OC were 477 (68.05%), 336 (47.93%), and 597 (85.16%), respectively. In addition, compared with the lowest tertile intake, higher possibility of non-serous OC was associated with the pre-diagnosis dietary Cu (OR = 2.39, 95% CI = 1.28-4.47, p trend < 0.05) and Cu/Zn ratio (OR = 2.06, 95% CI = 1.26-3.39, P trend < 0.05) in the highest tertile intake. The risk of poorly differentiation OC at diagnosis was significant inversely related to dietary Cu intake (OR = 0.40, 95% CI = 0.18-0.88, P trend < 0.05). 26. Structural design enabled a hypotoxic Na 3.36 FeV(PO 4 ) 3 cathode with ultra-fast and ultra-long sodium storage.

Among various cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries, Na
3 V2 (PO4 )3 has attracted much attention due to its outstanding electrochemical performance. However, the toxicity and expensive price of vanadium limit its practical application. Therefore, the substitution of vanadium with nontoxic and inexpensive transition metal elements is significant. We select the earth-abundant iron element to partially replace the vanadium element, and successfully synthesize Na3.36 FeV(PO4 )3 with a Na superionic conductor structure. Furthermore, a Na3.36 FeV(PO4 )3 cathode with an optimal carbon content can deliver an initial capacity of 97.6 mA h g-1 at 0.5C with a high capacity retention of 96.4% after 200 cycles. In addition, it also delivers an initial capacity of 90.4 mA h g-1 at 10C, and a capacity retention of 80% can be obtained after 5000 cycles. We also found that the lack of sodium in the material can be compensated by an electrochemical reaction. Furthermore, the in situ X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the sodium storage process follows a pseudo-solid-solution reaction mechanism and the volume change ratio is less than 3% during charging/discharging. In order to study the practical application capability of Na3.36 FeV(PO4 )3 , we assemble the pre-activated cathode and a hard carbon anode into a full cell, which exhibits high initial discharge capacities of 103 and 91.3 mA h g-1 at 0.5C and 10C, respectively. This work will provide new insights into the structural engineering of low-toxicity and ultralong-life NASICON-type cathode materials for SIBs.- Published

27. Pre-diagnosis fiber : carbohydrate intake ratio and mortality of ovarian cancer: results from a prospective cohort study.

- Abstract
Background : The association between the ratio of fiber to carbohydrate (F : C-R) and cancer mortality is not currently well-known. We prospectively evaluated for the first time the aforementioned topic among ovarian cancer (OC) patients. Methods : A total of 703 newly diagnosed OC patients aged 18-79 years were included. Pre-diagnosis diet intake details were collected with a validated food frequency questionnaire. Deaths were ascertained until March 31, 2021, based on medical records and the cancer registry. Cox proportional hazard models were used to evaluate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) between pre-diagnostic fiber, carbohydrate, and F : C-R intake and OC mortality. Restricted cubic splines were used to analyze the potential nonlinear relationship between F : C-R and OC mortality. Results : During the follow-up period (median: 37.2 months; interquartile: 24.7-50.2 months), we observed 130 (18.49%) OC patients died. The pre-diagnosis higher fiber intake (comparing the highest with the lowest tertile of intake: HR = 0.56, 95% CI = 0.35-0.92; HR per 1 SD increment: 0.78, 95% CI = 0.64-0.96; P trend < 0.05) and higher F : C-R intake (comparing the highest with the lowest tertile of intake: HR = 0.51, 95% CI = 0.31-0.85; HR per 1-SD increment: 0.73; 95% CI = 0.59-0.91; P trend < 0.05) were significantly associated with lower mortality for OC patients, but no evidence of the association between pre-diagnosis carbohydrate intake and OC mortality was observed. We found no evidence of a nonlinear relationship between F : C-R and OC mortality. Significant inverse associations were also observed for subgroup analyses stratified by age at diagnosis, menopausal status, residual lesions, histological type, FIGO stage, and body mass index, although not all associations showed statistical significance. Conclusion : Pre-diagnosis high fiber intake and high F : C-R diet intake were associated with a decreased risk of OC mortality.

Purpose: Previous studies have indicated that dietary consumption of calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and the Ca-to-Mg (Ca:Mg) ratio were associated with different health outcomes. However, no study has evaluated the association of pre-diagnostic Ca, Mg, and Ca:Mg ratio consumption with ovarian cancer (OC) survival., Methods: The aforementioned associations were investigated in a cohort of 853 Chinese women diagnosed with OC between 2015 and 2020. A validated food frequency questionnaire was used to evaluate pre-diagnostic diet information. Deaths were recorded until March 31, 2021 via medical records and active follow-up. Cox proportional hazards model was applied to calculate the adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs)., Results: A total of 130 deaths were observed during a median follow-up of 37.2 months. After adjustment for potential confounders, pre-diagnostic Ca (HR
< 600 vs. > 1000 = 1.45, 95% CI = 0.47-4.46, p for trend = 0.69) and Mg (HR< 250 vs. > 330 = 0.90, 95% CI = 0.39-2.08, p for trend = 0.77) intakes were found to be unrelated to OC survival, whereas a higher Ca:Mg intake ratio was significantly associated with worse survival (HR< 1.7 vs. > 2.5 = 2.72, 95% CI = 1.28-5.78, p for trend < 0.05). A significant result was also observed when treating the Ca:Mg ratio as a continuous variable (HR = 1.69, 95% CI = 1.12-2.55) for one-unit increment., Conclusion: Pre-diagnostic consumption of Ca and Mg was unrelated to OC survival, while a higher Ca:Mg intake ratio was strongly associated with worse survival among OC patients., (© 2022. 29. Association between dietary acid load and cancer risk and prognosis: An updated systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies.

Epidemiological studies have suggested that dietary acid load (DAL) might be related to the risk and prognosis of cancer, whereas the evidence is contentious. Several high-quality observational studies have been published following a prior systematic review with only one study included. Consequently, we conducted an updated systematic review and meta-analysis to comprehensively investigate the relationship between DAL and cancer risk and prognosis. A systematic literature search was conducted in the PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases from inception to 26 October 2021. Summary relative risks (RRs) with 95% CIs were calculated using a random-effects model. Publication bias, subgroup, meta-regression, and sensitivity analyses were also conducted. Ten observational studies (six cohorts and four case-control studies) with 227,253 participants were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. The summary RRs revealed a statistically significant associations between DAL and cancer risk (RR = 1.58, 95% CI = 1.23-2.05, I
2 = 71.9%, n = 7) and prognosis (RR = 1.53, 95% CI = 1.10-2.13, I2 = 77.1%, n = 3). No evidence of publication bias was observed in the current analysis. Positive associations were observed in most subgroup analyses stratified by predefined factors, including region, study design, study quality, study population, participants' gender, age of participants, cancer type, DAL assessment indicator, and adjustment of potential confounding parameters. No evidence of heterogeneity between subgroups was indicated by meta-regression analyses. The high DAL might be associated with an increased risk of cancer, as well as a poor prognosis of cancer. Background: Epidemiological studies have provided inconsistent evidence of the association between parity and metabolic syndrome (MetS) risk. We conducted this first systematic review and meta-analysis to comprehensively and precisely quantify this topic., Methods: Comprehensive searches of PubMed, Embase, and the Web of Science databases were conducted to identify observational studies of the association between parity and MetS risk up to 30 January 2022. Study inclusion, data extraction, and quality assessment were checked and reviewed by two investigators independently. Random-effects models were applied to estimate pooled odds ratios (ORs) and 95% CIs. This study has been registered with PROSPERO., Results: Two high-quality cohorts and thirteen medium-quality cross-sectional studies involving 62,095 women were finally included. Compared with the nulliparous, the pooled OR of MetS for the ever parity was 1.31 (95% CI = 0.91-1.88, I
2 = 72.6%, n = 3). Compared with the lowest parity number, the pooled OR of MetS for the highest parity number was 1.38 (95% CI = 1.22-1.57, I2 = 60.7%, n = 12). For the dose-response analysis, the pooled OR of MetS for each increment of one live birth was 1.12 (95% CI = 1.05-1.19, I2 = 78.6%, n = 6). These findings were robust across subgroups and sensitivity analyses. No evidence of heterogeneity between subgroups was indicated by meta-regression analyses., Conclusion: The findings suggested that parity was associated with an increased risk of MetS. 31. Pre-diagnosis meat intake and cooking method and ovarian cancer survival: results from the Ovarian Cancer Follow-Up Study (OOPS).

Objectives : The relationships between pre-diagnosis meat intake and ovarian cancer (OC) survival were limited and controversial. To date, no study has taken account of cooking methods. Thus, we aimed to firstly clarify these associations based on the Ovarian Cancer Follow-Up Study. Methods : This prospective cohort study, including 853 OC patients between 2015 and 2020, was conducted to examine the aforementioned associations. All women completed a food frequency questionnaire. Deaths were ascertained up to March 31, 2021 via medical records and active follow-up. We used the Cox proportional hazards model to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results : During the median follow-up of 37.17 months, 130 women died. Pre-diagnosis fish and seafood intake was associated with better survival (HR
T 3 vs. T 1 = 0.46, 95% CI = 0.26-0.82, p trend <0.05), whereas processed red meat (HR = 1.54, 95% CI = 1.04-2.26) and a high frequency of fried fish intake (HR = 1.49, 95% CI = 1.03-2.16) were associated with worse survival than consuming none. After considering the interaction of cooking methods, we found that compared with the lowest tertile of fish and seafood intake and almost no fried fish cooking, women with the highest tertile of intake and almost no fried fish cooking had better survival (HR = 0.35, 95% CI = 0.13-0.92). Additionally, compared with the lowest tertile of fish and seafood intake and almost no baked fish cooking, women with the lowest tertile of intake and consuming baked fish had worse survival (HR = 3.75, 95% CI = 1.53-9.15). Conclusions : Pre-diagnosis fish and seafood intake was associated with better OC survival, whereas processed red meat intake was associated with worse survival. Cooking methods, especially for fried or baked fish, may play interaction effects with fish intake on OC survival.- Published

- Abstract
Background : Epidemiological studies evaluating the associations between the consumption of cruciferous vegetables (CV) and diverse health outcomes have generated inconsistent findings. Therefore, we carried out an umbrella review to systematically summarize existing evidence on this topic. Methods : This study had been registered at PROSPERO (no. CRD42021262011). Relevant systematic reviews and meta-analyses of observational studies were identified by searching PubMed, Web of science, and Embase databases from inception up to March 15, 2021. Observational studies investigating the association between CV intake and multiple health outcomes in humans were eligible for inclusion. The validated AMSTAR (A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews) instrument was utilized for assessing the methodological quality of the included systematic reviews. For each meta-analysis, we assessed the summary effect size by using fixed and random effects models, 95% prediction intervals, heterogeneity, evidence of small-study effects, and excess significance bias. Results : Our umbrella review included 41 meta-analyses of 303 individual studies involving 13 394 722 participants. Twenty-four health outcomes including cancers ( n = 23), cardiovascular disease ( n = 12), mortality ( n = 5), and metabolic diseases ( n = 1) were evaluated. The summary random effects estimates were significant at P < 0.05 in 24 meta-analyses - all of which reported decreased risks of health outcomes. All were of moderate methodological quality in our study. Of the 41 meta-analyses, we observed suggestive evidence for beneficial associations between gastric cancer, lung cancer, endometrial cancer, and all-cause mortality. Moreover, 16 associations were supported by weak evidence, including breast cancer, lung cancer, renal cell carcinoma, bladder cancer, prostate cancer, ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, colon cancer, colorectal adenoma, colorectal neoplasm, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and total cancer. Conclusions : It revealed that CV intake might be associated with beneficial effects on several health-related outcomes (gastric cancer, lung cancer, endometrial cancer, and all-cause mortality). Other associations could be genuine, but substantial uncertainty remains. Additional studies are needed to evaluate the relationship between the consumption of CV and various health outcomes as well as robust randomized controlled trials in the future.

33. HSP27 Protects Skin From Ultraviolet B -Induced Photodamage by Regulating Autophagy and Reactive Oxygen Species Production.

Ultraviolet (UV) irradiation has been well documented to be linked with almost all skin problems we know, and both dermis and epidermis may be affected to varying degrees by UV irradiation. Every time when exposed to sunlight without protection, our skin will step closer to photoaging, leading to irreversible consequences ultimately. Heat shock protein 27 (HSP27) is a vital protein involved in cell growth, autophagy, apoptosis, drug resistance, tumor genesis and metastasis. Evidence suggests that the organism is subjected to various internal and external environmental stresses (heat, oxidative stress, organic toxicants, etc.), and HSP27 with high expression has protective function. However, the expression of HSP27 in coping with UV irradiation have not been examined thoroughly. In this study, photodamage models were developed through different doses of UVB irradiation in human epidermal keratinocytes (HEKs) (30 mJ/cm
2 ), human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs) (150 mJ/cm2 ) and mouse skin (2,700 mJ/cm2 ). HSP27 knockdown decreased cell viability and increased the incidence of UVB-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. We got consistent results in vivo and vitro. Compared with that in the UVB group, the expression of LC3B was significantly lower, while the expression of p62 was significantly higher in the UVB + si-HSP27 group. It was also revealed that HSP27 knockdown reduced the expressions of some antioxidants, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), which accelerated UVB-induced ROS release. Moreover, histological results showed that epidermis was thickened and collagen fibers were disorganized in the UVB + si-HSP27 group. These findings have demonstrated that HSP27 might play a photoprotective role in the UVB-induced skin damage process by maintaining the normal autophagy and antioxidant level. It is implied that HSP27 could be a potential therapeutic target of photodamage. 34. The Role of Human Epididymis Protein 4 in the Diagnosis and Prognosis of Diseases: An Umbrella Review of Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses of Observational Studies.

Background: The application of human epididymis protein 4 (HE4) in diverse health diseases, especially in cancers, has been extensively studied in recent decades. To summarize the existing evidence of the aforementioned topic, we conducted an umbrella review to systematically evaluate the reliability and strength of evidence regarding the role of HE4 in the diagnostic and prognostic estimate of diverse diseases., Methods: Electronic searches in PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase databases were conducted from inception to September 16, 2021, for meta-analyses, which focus on the role of HE4 in the diagnosis and prognosis of diseases. This study protocol has been registered at PROSPERO (CRD42021284737). We collected the meta-analysis effect size of sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value from diagnostic studies and gathered the hazard ratio ( HR ) of disease-free survival, overall survival, and progression-free survival from prognostic studies. For each systematic review and meta-analysis, we used a measurable tool for evaluating systematic reviews and meta-analysis (AMSTAR) to evaluate the methodological quality. Additionally, we assessed the quality of evidence on estimating the ability of HE4 in the diagnosis and prognosis of diverse diseases by the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) guideline., Results: Overall, 20 meta-analyses including a total of 331 primary studies of different diseases were examined, mainly including ovarian cancer (OC) ( n = 9), endometrial cancer (EC) ( n = 6), and lung cancer (LC) ( n = 4). The methodological qualities of all studies were rated as moderate (45%) or high (55%) by the AMSTAR. According to the GRADE, the certainties of 18 diagnostic pieces of evidence (9 for sensitivity and 9 for specificity) were rated as moderate (34%), low (33%), and very low (33%). Moreover, outcomes from prognosis studies showed evidence (1 for disease-free survival) with high certainty in regard to cancers (such as EC, OC, and LC) with the remaining three being moderate., Conclusion: This umbrella review suggested that HE4 was a favored biomarker in the prognosis of cancers, which was supported by high certainty of evidence. Additionally, HE4 could provide a suitable method for the diagnosis of EC, OC, and LC with moderate certainty evidence. 4 Fe3 (PO4 )2 (P2 O7 ) (NFPP) has advantages of environmental benignity, easy synthesis, high theoretical capacity, and remarkable stability. From NFPP, a novel Li-replaced material NaLi3 Fe3 (PO4 )2 (P2 O7 ) (NLFPP) is synthesized through active Na-site structural engineering by an electrochemical ion exchange approach. The NLFPP cathode can show high reversible capacities of 103.2 and 90.3 mA h g-1 at 0.5 and 5C, respectively. It also displays an impressive discharge capacity of 81.5 mA h g-1 at an ultrahigh rate of 30C. Density functional theory (DFT) calculation demonstrates that the formation energy of NLFPP is the lowest among NLFPP, NFPP, and NaFe3 (PO4 )2 (P2 O7 ), indicating that NLFPP is the easiest to form and the conversion from NFPP to NLFPP is thermodynamically favorable. The Li substitution for Na in the NFPP lattice causes an increase in the unit cell parameter c and decreases in a , b , and V , which are revealed by both DFT calculations and in situ X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) analysis. With hard carbon (HC) as the anode, the NLFPP//HC full cell shows a high reversible capacity of 91.1 mA h g-1 at 2C and retains 82.4% after 200 cycles. The proposed active-site-specific structural tailoring via electrochemical ion exchange will give new insights into the design of high-performance cathodes for lithium-ion batteries.- Published

Background: Evidence for a role of single nutrition or foods on ovarian cancer (OC) survival has been limited and inconclusive. Due to the potentially complex interactions in dietary, we applied dietary patterns to this study to firstly explore the relationship between the pre-diagnosis overall diet and OC survival., Methods: The prospective cohort study was conducted among 853 OC patients aged 18-79 years during 2015-2020. Dietary intake was collected using a validated 111-item food frequency questionnaire. Deaths were obtained by medical records and cancer registry up to March 31, 2021. Cox proportional hazards regression models was used to evaluate the hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the associations of pre-diagnosis dietary patterns with overall survival (OS)., Results: Overall, during the follow-up period (median: 37.57 months, interquartile: 25.00-50.17 months), 130 (18.49%) OC patients died. Four dietary patterns were identified: healthy pattern, ethnic pattern, animal foods pattern, and sweet pattern. The highest tertile of the healthy pattern scores was related to better OS compared with the lowest tertile scores (HR = 0.54, 95% CI = 0.30-0.98, p trend <0.05), whereas OC patients with highest adherence to the animal foods pattern was associated with worse OS than those with the lowest adherence (HR = 1.90, 95% CI = 1.14-3.17, p trend <0.05). - Abstract
Melastomataceae has abundant morphological diversity with high economic and ornamental merit in Myrtales. The phylogenetic position of Myrtales is still contested. Here, we report the chromosome-level genome assembly of Melastoma dodecandrum in Melastomataceae. The assembled genome size is 299.81 Mb with a contig N50 value of 3.00 Mb. Genome evolution analysis indicated that M. dodecandrum, Eucalyptus grandis, and Punica granatum were clustered into a clade of Myrtales and formed a sister group with the ancestor of fabids and malvids. We found that M. dodecandrum experienced four whole-genome polyploidization events: the ancient event was shared with most eudicots, one event was shared with Myrtales, and the other two events were unique to M. dodecandrum. Moreover, we identified MADS-box genes and found that the AP1-like genes expanded, and AP3-like genes might have undergone subfunctionalization. The SUAR63-like genes and AG-like genes showed different expression patterns in stamens, which may be associated with heteranthery. In addition, we found that LAZY1-like genes were involved in the negative regulation of stem branching development, which may be related to its creeping features. Study Objectives: Shift work is commonly increasing, and some physiological changes occur as workers sleep less and their circadian rhythms are disrupted. This umbrella review not only summarizes the evidence but also evaluates the validity of the associations of shift work with different health outcomes., Methods: We searched the MEDLINE, Web of Science, and Embase databases from their inception to April 25, 2020. For each systematic review and/or meta-analysis, we estimated the summary effect size, the 95% confidence interval, the 95% prediction interval, the between-study heterogeneity, evidence of small-study effects, and evidence of excess-significance bias., Results: Eight eligible systematic reviews and meta-analyses were identified, providing data on 16 associations. We observed highly suggestive evidence for associations between shift work and myocardial infarction (having ever vs having never done shift work) and diabetes mellitus incidence (per 5-year increment in shift work). Furthermore, we observed suggestive evidence for an association between shift work and diabetes mellitus incidence (having ever vs having never done shift work). Two health outcomes, including prostate cancer incidence (having ever vs having never done shift work and rotating night shift work vs daytime work) and colorectal cancer incidence (longest vs shortest shift work time), were only supported by weak evidence., Conclusions: This umbrella review found that shift work was associated with several health outcomes with different levels of evidence. - Abstract
The present study identified that exposure to 5, 10, and 20 µg/L Cd for 48 days reduced growth, increased Cd accumulation and levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipid peroxidation, and induced ER stress and cellular apoptosis in the liver in a dose-dependent manner. However, the survival rate was not affected by Cd. The increased production of ROS might result from reduced catalase (CAT) and copper/zinc-superoxide dismutase (Cu/Zn-SOD) activities, which might trigger ER stress pathways and subsequently induce apoptotic responses, ultimately leading to growth inhibition. Transcriptomic analyses indicated that the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) involved in metabolic pathways were significantly enriched and dysregulated by Cd, suggesting that metabolic disturbances may contribute to Cd toxicity. However, there were increases in glutathione peroxidase (GPX) activity, protein levels of metallothioneins (MTs) and heat shock protein 70 (HSP70), and mRNA levels of sod1, cat, gpx, mt2, and hsp70. Furthermore, DEGs related to ribosome, protein processing in the ER, and protein export pathways were significantly enriched and up-regulated by Cd. These increases may be compensatory responses following oxidative stress, ER stress, and apoptosis to resist negative effects. Taken together, we demonstrated that environmentally relevant levels of Cd induced adaptive responses with compensatory mechanisms in fish, which may help to maintain fish survival at the cost of growth., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier B.V. 41. Association Between Pre-diagnostic Dietary Supplements Intake and Ovarian Cancer Survival: Findings From a Prospective Cohort Study in Chinese Women.

Background: As a result of a limited number of studies and inconsistent findings, there remains uncertainty in whether pre-diagnostic dietary supplements intake affects survival after ovarian cancer (OC) diagnosis. Methods: The association between pre-diagnostic dietary supplements intake and all-cause OC mortality was examined in the OC follow-up study, which included a hospital-based cohort ( n = 703) of Chinese women diagnosed with OC between 2015 and 2020. Pre-diagnostic dietary supplements information was collected using self-administered questionnaires. Deaths were ascertained up to March 31, 2021, via death registry linkage. Cox proportional hazards were used to estimate hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for the aforementioned association. Results: A total of 130 women died during the median follow-up of 37.2 months (interquartile: 24.7-50.2 months). We found no evidence that any pre-diagnostic dietary supplements intake compared with never is associated with OC survival (HR = 0.75, 95%CI: 0.47-1.18). Furthermore, our study suggested no association for ever supplements intakes of vitamin A (HR = 0.48, 95%CI: 0.07-3.46), vitamin C (HR = 0.64, 95%CI: 0.27-1.54), vitamin D (HR = 1.19, 95%CI: 0.28-5.03), vitamin E (HR = 0.47, 95%CI: 0.06-3.87), multivitamin (HR = 0.49, 95%CI: 0.14-1.67), calcium (HR = 0.96, 95%CI: 0.53-1.72), and fish oil/DHA (HR = 0.31, 95%CI: 0.04-2.37) with OC survival. Interestingly, we only found a detrimental effect of vitamin B supplementation intake (HR = 3.78, 95%CI: 1.33-0.69) on OC survival. Conclusions: We found no evidence that any pre-diagnostic dietary supplements intake is associated with OC survival. 42. Pre-diagnosis Cruciferous Vegetables and Isothiocyanates Intake and Ovarian Cancer Survival: A Prospective Cohort Study.

Background: The associations of the consumption of cruciferous vegetables (CVs) and their bioactive components, isothiocyanates (ITCs), with ovarian cancer (OC) mortality have been unclear, owing to limited studies and inconsistent findings. To date, no studies have evaluated these associations among Chinese patients with OC. This study aims to provide more evidence indicating the relationships of pre-diagnosis CVs and ITC intake with OC survival. Methods: We examined the associations of pre-diagnosis CV and ITC intake with OC mortality in a hospital-based cohort ( n = 853) of Chinese patients with epithelial OC between 2015 and 2020. Pre-diagnosis dietary information was evaluated with a validated food frequency questionnaire. Deaths were ascertained until March 31, 2021 via medical records and active follow-up. The associations were examined with the Cox proportional hazards model, adjusted for potential confounders, and stratified by menopausal status, residual lesions, histological type, and body mass index (BMI). Results: During a median follow-up of 37.2 months (interquartile: 24.7-50.2 months), we observed 130 deaths. The highest tertile of total CV intake was associated with better survival than the lowest tertile intake [hazard ratio (HR) = 0.57, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.33-0.98, p trend < 0.05]. In addition, higher intake of ITCs from CVs was associated with better survival (HR
T3VS.T1 = 0.59, 95% CI = 0.36-0.99, p trend = 0.06). Significant inverse associations were also observed for subgroup analyses stratified by menopausal status, residual lesions, histological type, and BMI, although not all associations showed statistical significance. Background: Dairy product consumption is associated with ovarian cancer (OC) incidence. However, limited evidence is available on its influence on OC mortality. Methods: The association between pre-diagnostic dairy product intake and OC mortality was investigated in the OC follow-up study, which included a hospital-based cohort ( n = 853) of women diagnosed with epithelial OC between 2015 and 2020. Pre-diagnosis diet information was collected using a validated food frequency questionnaire. Deaths were ascertained up to March 31, 2021 via death registry linkage. Cox proportional hazards model was used to estimate the adjusted hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for the aforementioned association. Results: A total of 130 women died during the median follow-up of 37.2 months (interquartile: 24.7-50.2 months). Comparisons of highest to lowest tertile intake showed that pre-diagnosis dairy product use was associated with total OC mortality (HR = 2.03, 95% CI = 1.21-3.40, p trend = 0.06). In addition, short survival was separately associated with protein (HR = 2.09, 95% CI = 1.25-3.49, p trend < 0.05), fat (HR = 2.16, 95% CI = 1.30-3.61, p trend < 0.05), and calcium (HR = 2.03, 95% CI = 1.21-3.4, p trend = 0.06) from dairy intake. Similar positive magnitudes were observed for menopausal status, residual lesions, histological type, and body mass index, although not all of these factors showed statistical significance. Adenosine, as an endogenous purine nucleoside, is widely distributed in various tissues and organs of the body. It binds to adenosine receptors to regulate a variety of important biological processes. Adenosine 2A receptors have a close relationship with the occurrence and development of various clinical diseases. This article reviews the research progress of adenosine 2A receptors in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, acute immune hepatitis, liver ischemia-reperfusion injury, liver fibrosis, etc., in order to provide new research strategies for the prevention and treatment of these diseases.

45. Dietary Inflammatory Index and Risk of Asthenozoospermia: A Hospital-Based Case-Controlled Study in China.

- Abstract
Background: Evidence of associations between a pro-inflammatory diet and asthenozoospermia risk is limited. We therefore performed a case-controlled study to investigate associations between pro-inflammatory diet using dietary inflammatory index (DII) scores and asthenozoospermia risk in China. Methods: Our hospital-based case-controlled study comprised 549 incident asthenozoospermia men and 581 healthy controls. All were interviewed at the infertility clinic in Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University from June 2020 to December 2020. DII scores were calculated based on dietary intake which were assessed using a validated food frequency questionnaire. Semen parameters were analyzed according to World Health Organization guidelines. An unconditional logistic regression model was used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for asthenozoospermia risk. The lowest tertile served as the reference category for regression analyses. Results: After adjustment for age in the primary multivariable model, we failed to determine a significant negative association between DII and asthenozoospermia risk (for the highest tertile of DII scores compared to the lowest tertile) (OR = 0.77, 95% CI: 0.57-1.03). Similarly, non-significant associations were also identified in the multivariable model after adjusting for more potential confounders (OR = 0.86; 95% CI: 0.58-1.27). Additionally, in subgroup analyses stratified by age, body mass index, and smoking status, non-significant results were consistent with the main findings. Conclusions: To our knowledge, this is the first study exploring this particular topic. Our research does not support an association between DII scores and asthenozoospermia risk. 46. Post-Diagnostic Beta Blocker Use and Prognosis of Ovarian Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of 11 Cohort Studies With 20,274 Patients.

- Abstract
Objectives: Previous experimental studies have indicated that exposure to beta blocker provides protective effects against ovarian cancer (OC). However, findings from epidemiologic studies have still been controversial. Therefore, we carried out a meta-analysis to update and quantify the correlation between post-diagnostic beta blocker usage and OC prognosis., Methods: The meta-analysis had been registered at PROSPEPO. The number of registration is CRD42020188806. A comprehensive search of available literatures in English prior to April 16, 2020, was conducted in PubMed, EMBASE, and the Web of Science databases. Random-effects models were used to calculate overall hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Publication bias assessments, and subgroup, sensitivity, and meta-regression analyses were also performed., Results: Of the 637 initially identified articles, 11 retrospective cohort studies with 20,274 OC patients were included. The summary HRs did not reveal any statistically significant associations between post-diagnostic beta blocker use and OC prognosis characteristics, such as total mortality (HR = 1.08, 95% CI = 0.92-1.27, I
2 = 76.5%, n = 9), cancer-specific mortality (HR = 1.22, 95% CI = 0.89-1.67, I2 = 88.1%, n=3), and progression-free survival (HR = 0.88, 95% CI = 0.75-1.05, I2 = 0, n = 4). No evidence of publication bias was observed in current analysis. In our subgroup analyses, the majority of results were consistent with the main findings. However, several positive correlations were detected in studies with ≥800 cases (HR = 1.20, 95% CI = 1.05-1.37), no immortal time bias (HR = 1.28, 95% CI = 1.10-1.49), and adjustment for comorbidity (HR = 1.20, 95% CI = 1.05-1.37). In the meta-regression analysis, no evidence of heterogeneity was detected in the subgroups according to study characteristics and confounding factors., Conclusions: Post-diagnostic beta blocker use has no statistical correlation with OC prognosis. The mixed polyanionic material Na
4 Fe3 (PO4 )2 (P2 O7 ) combines the advantages of NaFePO4 and Na2 FeP2 O7 in capacity, stability, and cost. Herein, we synthesized carbon-coated hollow-sphere-structured Na4 Fe3 (PO4 )2 (P2 O7 ) powders by a scalable spray drying route. The optimal sample can deliver a high discharge capacity of 107.7 mA h g-1 at 0.2C. It also delivers a capacity of 88 mA h g-1 at 10C and a capacity of retention of 92% after 1500 cycles. Ex situ X-ray diffraction analysis indicates a slight volume change (less than 3%) in the Na4 Fe3 (PO4 )2 (P2 O7 ) lattice cell. Therefore, such a spraying-derived carbon-coated Na4 Fe3 (PO4 )2 (P2 O7 ) powder is a very attractive cathode electrode for sodium-ion batteries.- Published

- Abstract
Background & Aims: Diet may play an important role in the etiology of ovarian cancer (OC). We aimed to evaluate the strength and credibility of evidence pertaining to dietary risk factors for OC., Methods: We comprehensively searched PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane, CINAHL, JBI Database of Systematic Reviews and Implementation Reports, PROSPERO and EMBASE databases to identify related systematic reviews and meta-analyses of prospective cohort studies. This study had been registered at PROSPERO. The registration number is CRD42020187651. For each association, we estimated the summary effect size using fixed and random effects models, the 95% confidence interval and the 95% prediction interval. We assessed heterogeneity, evidence of small-study effects, and excess significance bias., Results: A total of 22 systematic reviews and meta-analyses were included in the present study. These previous reports evaluated 184 individual studies, which proposed a total of 36 associations between dietary factors and OC risk. Out of the 36 associations, there were no strong, highly suggestive and suggestive evidence, only four (black tea, skim/low-fat milk, lactose, and calcium) were determined to be supported by weak evidence. OC risk was inversely associated with intake of black tea or calcium, and positively associated with intake of skim/low-fat milk or lactose., Conclusions: Our studies revealed that four associations between OC risk and dietary factors (black tea, skim/low-fat milk, lactose, and calcium) were supported by weak evidence. The remaining 32 associations were not confirmed. - Abstract
The melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) plays an important role in the regulation of food intake and energy expenditure. Melanocortin-2 receptor accessory protein 2 (MRAP2) modulates trafficking, ligand binding, and signaling of MC4R. The Northern snakehead ( Channa argus ) is an economically important freshwater fish native to East Asia. To explore potential interaction between snakehead MC4R and MRAP2, herein we cloned snakehead mc4r and mrap2 . The snakehead mc4r consisted of a 984 bp open reading frame encoding a protein of 327 amino acids, while snakehead mrap2 contained a 693 bp open reading frame encoding a protein of 230 amino acids. Synteny analysis indicated that mc4r was highly conserved with similar gene arrangement, while mrap2 contained two isoforms in teleost with different gene orders. Snakehead mc4r was primarily expressed in the brain, whereas mrap2 was expressed in the brain and intestine. Snakehead mc4r and mrap2 expression was modulated by fasting and refeeding. Further pharmacological experiments showed that the cloned snakehead MC4R was functional, capable of binding to peptide agonists and increasing intracellular cAMP production in a dose-dependent manner. Snakehead MC4R exhibited high constitutive activity. MRAP2 significantly decreased basal and agonist-stimulated cAMP signaling. These findings suggest that snakehead MC4R might be involved in energy balance regulation by interacting with MRAP2. Further studies are needed to elucidate MC4R in regulating diverse physiological processes in snakehead.

- Abstract
Objective: The underlying mechanism of Ezrin in ovarian cancer (OVCA) is far from being understood. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the role of Ezrin in OVCA cells (SKOV3 and CaOV3) and investigate the associated molecular mechanisms., Methods: We performed Western blotting, reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction, MTT, cell colony, cell wound healing, transwell migration and invasion, RhoA and Rac active pull down assays, and confocal immunofluorescence experiments to evaluate the functions and molecular mechanisms of Ezrin overexpression or knockdown in the proliferation and metastasis of OVCA cells., Results: The ectopic expression of Ezrin significantly increased cell proliferation, invasiveness, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in OVCA cells. By contrast, the knockdown of endogenous Ezrin prevented OVCA cell proliferation, invasiveness, and EMT. Lastly, we observed that Ezrin can positively regulate the active forms of RhoA rather than Rac-1 in OVCA cells, thereby promoting robust stress fiber formation., Conclusion: Our results indicated that Ezrin regulates OVCA cell proliferation and invasiveness by modulating EMT and induces actin stress fiber formation by regulating Rho-GTPase activity, which provides novel insights into the treatment of the OVCA., (Copyright © 2021 The Editorial Board of Biomedical and Environmental Sciences.
