Abstract Background Ionizing radiation (IR), including radiotherapy, can exert lasting harm on living organisms. While liposaccharide (LPS) offers resistance to radiation damage, it also induces toxic responses. Thankfully, an LPS analogue called N-formylmethionine-leucyl-phenylalanine (fMLP) holds the potential to mitigate this toxicity, offering hope for radiation protection. Methods Survival of C57BL/6 mice exposed to IR after administration with fMLP/LPS/WR-2721 or saline was recorded. Cell viability and apoptosis assay of bone marrow (BMC), spleen and small intestinal epithelial (HIECs) cells were tested by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) and flow cytometry assay. Tissue damage was evaluated by Hematoxilin and Eosin (H&E), Ki-67, and TUNEL staining. RNA sequencing was performed to reveal potential mechanisms of fMLP-mediated radiation protection. Flow cytometry and western blot were performed to verify the radiation protection mechanism of fMLP on the cell cycle. Results The survival rates of C57BL/6 mice exposed to ionizing radiation after administering fMLP increased. fMLP demonstrated low toxicity in vitro and in vivo, maintaining cell viability and mitigating radiation-induced apoptosis. Moreover, it protected against tissue damage in the hematopoietic and intestinal system. RNA sequencing shed light on fMLP’s potential mechanism, suggesting its role in modulating innate immunity and cell cycling. This was evidenced by its ability to reverse radiation-induced G2/M phase arrests in HIECs. Conclusion fMLP serves as a promising radioprotective agent, preserving cells and radiosensitive tissues from IR. Through its influence on the cell cycle, particularly reversing radiation-induced arrest in G2/M phases, fMLP offers protection against IR’s detrimental effects.

Abstract Background Kaposiform hemangioendothelioma (KHE) is a rare neoplasm of vascular origin. It may involve skin, bone, connective tissue, and parenchymal organs, and it is difficult to make a definite diagnosis in the early stage because Kasabach-Merritt phenomenon may occur in some cases. Case presentation On June 12, 2022, a 19-month boy was admitted to our department with the chief complaint of flexion of the right hip joint for over 1 year. An exploratory laparotomy and pelvic lesion resection were conducted and the resection of the iliopsoas muscle mass was performed. The intraoperative resection of the neoplasm confirmed the pathological diagnosis of kaposiform hemangioendothelioma. The vital signs of the child were stable and recovered well after surgery, and the platelet and coagulation indices were normal. Conclusion KHE is a rare disease in clinics, the number of confirmed cases in the world is still relatively few, and the etiology and mechanism of the disease are still unknown, which could result in misdiagnose and delayed treatment in the disease early stages. It is necessary to continue to collect relevant cases, to unify the standard treatment guidelines as soon as possible, to reduce the mortality rate, and to improve the quality of life of the cases.

Motivated by the excellent detonation performance of octanitrocubane, prismane is another potential backbone with high strain energy in energetic molecule design. In this work, we aim to screen out candidates of highly energetic molecules from the space of prismane derivatives. The high-throughput computation (HTC) is performed based on 200 molecules derived from the molecule space of 1503 prismane derivatives with four substituents. Based on the calculated results, the machine learning (ML) models of density, detonation velocity, detonation pressure, heat of formation and detonation heat are established, and thereby the performances of the remaining 1303 samples are predicted. It is found that the –NHNO2 group increases density, while both –NO2 and –C(NO2)3 groups promote detonation performances. Based on the detonation velocity and bond dissociation energy as criteria representing energy and molecular stability, four molecules were screened out with good detonation performance and acceptable thermal stability. This work demonstrates the efficiency of HTC and ML combined strategy for screening high-quality energetic molecules.

1,1-dinitro-2,2-diamino ethylene (FOX-7) is typically representative of low sensitivity and high energy compound. In this work, analogues of FOX-7 are screened using a combined method of high-throughput computation (HTC) and machine learning (ML). The molecules are generated with typical unsaturated hydrocarbons backbones and random combination of substituents -H, -NH2 and -NO2, then HTC is performed based on 200 sample molecules. ML models are established based on the HTC results, with detonation parameters predicted using the most accurate model of extreme gradient boosting (XGB). Finally, stability of the filtered high energy molecules are confirmed by quantum chemistry calculations, and besides FOX-7, 8 more energetic molecules with high energy as well as high stability (detonation velocity ≥ 8841.1 m/s, detonation pressure ≥ 34.6 GPa and stability parameter bond dissociation energy ≥ 201.7 kJ/mol) are achieved. This work has shown the efficiency of HTC and ML methods in searching new target molecules.

Abstracts AF6, a known polarity protein, contributes to the maintenance of homeostasis while ensuring tissue architecture, repair, and integrity. Mice that lack AF6 display embryonic lethality owing to cell–cell junction disruption. However, we show AF6 promotes necroptosis via regulating the ubiquitination of RIPK1 by directly interact with the intermediate domain of RIPK1, which was mediated by the deubiquitylase enzyme USP21. Consistently, while injection of mice with an adenovirus providing AF6 overexpression resulted in accelerated TNFα-induced necroptosis-mediated mortality in vivo, we observed that mice with hepatocyte-specific deletion of AF6 prevented hepatocytes from necroptosis and the subsequent inflammatory response in various liver diseases model, including non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and the systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS).Together, these data suggest that AF6 represents a novel regulator of RIPK1-RIPK3 dependent necroptotic pathway. Thus, the AF6-RIPK1-USP21 axis are potential therapeutic targets for treatment of various liver injuries and metabolic diseases.

ESG performance reflects corporate social responsibility, while financial market stability shows the dynamic changes of enterprises, and exploring the relationship between the two is of great significance to optimize the structure of financial market stability. In this paper, on the basis of combining the mechanisms of ESG performance and financial market stability, brand value is introduced as a mediating effect to analyze the mechanism of ESG performance on financial market stability and relevant research hypotheses are designed. The appropriate research model is established with 30 commercial banks in China as the research object through the use of a multiple linear regression model with weighted least squares estimation for parameter estimation. For the impact of ESG performance on financial market stability, empirical analysis is carried out using benchmark regression, mediation effect test, heterogeneity test, and robustness test. Every 1% increase in the ESG composite score of financial institutions increases financial market stability by 0.179%, and only the social dimension of ESG performance is significant for financial market stability. High-cost and small-sized financial institutions are more capable of lowering financial market risk, and the difference in the Beta value of ESG performance of financial institutions between the highest and lowest groups is 1.067, which is significant at the 1% level. Financial enterprises need to pay full attention to the contribution of ESG performance to the stability of the financial market in order to support the enhancement of their economic efficiency and the maintenance of stable and healthy development of the market.

Tumor necrosis factor receptor–associated factor 4 (TRAF4) is an important regulator of type 2 responses in the airway; however, the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms remain elusive. Herein, we generated T cell–specific TRAF4-deficient (CD4-cre Traf4fl/fl) mice and investigated the role of TRAF4 in memory Th2 cells expressing IL-33 receptor (ST2, suppression of tumorigenicity 2) (ST2+ mTh2 cells) in IL-33–mediated type 2 airway inflammation. We found that in vitro–polarized TRAF4-deficient (CD4-cre Traf4fl/fl) ST2+ mTh2 cells exhibited decreased IL-33–induced proliferation as compared with TRAF4-sufficient (Traf4fl/fl) cells. Moreover, CD4-cre Traf4fl/fl mice showed less ST2+ mTh2 cell proliferation and eosinophilic infiltration in the lungs than Traf4fl/fl mice in the preclinical models of IL-33–mediated type 2 airway inflammation. Mechanistically, we discovered that TRAF4 was required for the activation of AKT/mTOR and ERK1/2 signaling pathways as well as the expression of transcription factor Myc and nutrient transporters (Slc2a1, Slc7a1, and Slc7a5), signature genes involved in T cell growth and proliferation, in ST2+ mTh2 cells stimulated by IL-33. Taken together, the current study reveals a role of TRAF4 in ST2+ mTh2 cells in IL-33–mediated type 2 pulmonary inflammation, opening up avenues for the development of new therapeutic strategies.

In order to explore the effect of accounting computer information processing technology on enterprise internal control, this paper puts forward the method of simultaneous equation of panel data. This paper constructs an accounting computer index to measure the accounting computer level of manufacturing enterprises in Shanghai stock market, and studies the relationship between enterprise accounting computer and internal control by using panel data simultaneous equations model. The empirical results show that: first, although the average accounting computer level of manufacturing industry increases year by year, the overall level is low, and there are great differences among sub industries, even within the same industry; Second, the level of accounting computer has a negative impact on the internal control of enterprises, and the internal control of enterprises has a positive impact on the level of accounting computer; Third, enterprise scale and operating years have a significant positive impact on the level of accounting computer. The experimental results show that: from the estimation results of accounting computer equation, firstly, ROA has a significant positive impact on the level of accounting computer; Secondly, the scale and operating age of enterprises positively affect the level of accounting computer, while the nature of ownership and listing age are not related to the level of accounting computer; Finally, document disclosure has a high level of accounting computer, which is consistent with the conclusion of the above descriptive statistics of EMI, which may be related to the mandatory provisions of national laws and regulations on the industry of document disclosure.

Context Ginkgo leaf tablet (GLT), a traditional Chinese herbal formula, is often combined with rosiglitazone (ROS) for type 2 diabetes mellitus treatment. However, the drug-drug interaction between GLT and ROS remains unknown.Objective To investigate the effects of GLT on the pharmacokinetics of ROS and its potential mechanism.Materials and methods The pharmacokinetics of 10 mg/kg ROS with 100/200 mg/kg GLT as single-dose and 10-day multiple-dose administration were investigated in Sprague-Dawley rats. In vitro, the effects of GLT on the activity of CYP2C8 and CYP2C9 were determined in recombinant human yeast microsomes and rat liver microsomes with probe substrates.Results The t1/2 of ROS increased from 2.14 ± 0.38 (control) to 2.79 ± 0.37 (100 mg/kg) and 3.26 ± 1.08 h (200 mg/kg) in the single-dose GLT administration. The AUC0-t (139.69 ± 45.46 vs. 84.58 ± 39.87 vs. 66.60 ± 15.90 h·μg/mL) and t1/2 (2.75 ± 0.70 vs. 1.99 ± 0.44 vs. 1.68 ± 0.35 h) decreased significantly after multiple-dose GLT treatment. The IC50 values of quercetin, kaempferol, and isorhamnetin, GLT main constituents, were 9.32, 7.67, and 11.90 μmol/L for CYP2C8, and 27.31, 7.57, and 4.59 μmol/L for CYP2C9. The multiple-dose GLT increased rat CYP2C8 activity by 44% and 88%, respectively.Discussion and conclusions The metabolism of ROS is attenuated in the single dose of GLT by inhibiting CYP2C8 and CYP2C9 activity, and accelerated after the multiple-dose GLT treatment via inducing CYP2C8 activity in rats, indicating that the clinical dose of ROS should be adjusted when co-administrated with GLT.

Abstract Background Few animal experiments and volunteer-based intervention studies have showed a controversial effect of spicy foods on abdominal obesity. We aimed to examine the association between spicy food frequency, spicy flavor, and abdominal obesity among Chinese Han population in the Sichuan Basin which area eating spicy foods relatively often. Methods A cross-sectional analysis was conducted using the Sichuan Basin baseline data from the China Multi-Ethnic Cohort (CMEC) study, including data from electronic questionnaires, anthropometric measurements and blood sample collection. A total of 40,877 adults (22,503 females) aged 30–79 years were included in the final analysis. Multivariable logistic regression yielded adjusted odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for abdominal obesity associated with the strength of spicy flavor and frequency of spicy food intake. Results The prevalence of daily spicy food eating was 47.3% in males and 52.7% in females, the percentages of abdominal obesity were 52.3%, 48.8%, 51.6% and 55.5% in the spicy food intake subgroups of never, 1–2 days/week, 3–5 days/week and 6–7 days/week, respectively. Social Impact Statement Although tremendously successful at feeding humanity, row crop agriculture based on annuals contributes to numerous ecosystem dis‐services, ranging from soil degradation and aquatic eutrophication to greenhouse gas production. In contrast, perennial grain crops (which produce harvests for multiple seasons from single plantings) have the potential to provide valuable regulating and supporting ecosystem services in addition to food production. In particular, losses of ecological capital that threaten permanent food insecurity such as ~1% of global soil per year are expected to be mitigated or even reversed by crops that combine the high yield realized by scientific breeding via multiple cropping cycles from single plantings. Summary Perennial herbaceous may provide food and biomass while preserving ecological capital and reducing energy inputs. Sorghum has two perennial relatives and rich morphological diversity being used to breed for perenniality. We elucidate genetic determinants of rhizomatousness and survival, in two BC1F2 populations totaling 246 genotypes derived from backcrossing different annual Sorghum bicolor X perennial S. halepense F1 plants to a tetraploidized S. bicolor. RNA‐seq assisted in identifying candidate genes for rhizomatousness. Correspondence of rhizomatousness quantitative trait loci (QTLs) with those from two populations derived from crosses between S. halepense progenitors S. bicolor X S. propinquum suggests either the preservation of interspecific polymorphism or the formation of novel alleles following polyploid S. halepense formation. Correspondence of tillering and branching QTLs further supports their developmental. Identification of genes from RNA‐seq study within QTL intervals provides insight toward discovery of causal rhizomatous genes. An unexpected finding from both S. halepense‐ and S. propinquum‐derived populations is that alleles contributing to late flowering are related to reduced rhizomatousness. Twelve of 16 QTL regions conferring rhizomatousness fall in paleo‐duplicated regions tracing to single ancestral regions 96 million years ago, indicating that corresponding genes in these regions have retained similar functions since the duplication event.

Maturity-onset diabetes of the young type 3 (MODY3) is a specific type of diabetes mellitus with inherited impairment of the islet β cell function due to the mutation in the hepatocyte nuclear factor 1α (HNF1α) gene. It is a rare condition and easily misdiagnosed as T1DM or T2DM. In this study, the clinical features of two unrelated Chinese MODY3 probands were described and analyzed. Next-generation sequencing was performed to identify the mutated genes, and Sanger sequencing was employed to verify the location of the pathogenic variant in the related family members. It was found that proband 1 inherited a start codon mutation c.2T>C (p.Met1?) in exon 1 of the HNF1α gene from his affected mother, and proband 2 inherited a frameshift mutation c.1136_1137del (p.Pro379fs) in exon 6 of the HNF1α gene also from her affected mother. Proband 1 and proband 2 differed in islet dysfunction, complications, and treatments due to their different disease durations and levels of hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c). The findings of this study demonstrate that early identification of MODY and diagnosis through genetic testing are critical for the treatment of the patient.

This study demonstrates the feasibility of using liquid exfoliation of expandable graphite into multilayer exfoliated graphene flakes (EGFs) to form a self-assembled thin film on an air–water interface. The film can coat the surface of additive manufactured (AM) steel substrates to enhance surface properties, specifically AM 316 stainless-steel (AM316), AM 8620 steel (AM8620), and samples of the same alloys made by conventional manufacturing (CM) processes. Liquid exfoliation offers a high yield route for an EGF coating that can cover up to 95% of the sample surface with a single application. The thin, flexible EGFs can coat a rough AM metal surface, while the highly intact crystal lattice protects covered areas against diffusing ions and prevents localized corrosion compared to similar coatings made with graphene oxide (GO) or reduced GO (rGO). The EGF coating exploits a unique self-assembly process without surfactants or stabilizers, wherein the hydrophobicity and hydrophilicity of EGFs arrange the flakes, then van der Waals (vdW) forces bond them together and to the substrate for a coherent anti-corrosive coating. Electrochemical measurements indicate lower corrosion potential for coated samples, nanoindentation measurements show surface hardness protection against corrosive attack, and weight loss measurements demonstrate long-term protective capabilities. Density functional theory calculations, using the optB88-vdW exchange functional of the graphene and iron (111) interface demonstrated stronger binding and shorter interface distance compared to the well-studied graphene/nickel (111) interface. These calculations and experimental results can further elucidate the superior performance of EGF thin film coatings on high iron content steels, especially AM steels.

Objective: This study aimed to explore the prevalence and associated factors of medication adherence among infertile women undergoing frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) cycle.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 556 infertile women undergoing FET cycle in total. The Self-efficacy for Appropriate Medication Use Scale (SEAMS), Herth Hope Index (HHI) scale, and Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS) were used to evaluate the patients. Data were described by univariate and multivariate analyses. Logistic regression method was performed to analyse the factors potentially associated with medication adherence.Results: The average score of Self-efficacy for Appropriate Medication Use Scale (SEAMS) was 30.38 ± 6.65, and 65.3% of participants showed non-adherence. Multiple regression analysis indicated that first-time FET cycle, treatment stage, methods of daily medication, social support and hope level were the main associated factors of the medication adherence among infertile women undergoing FET cycle (p < 0.001).Conclusion: This study revealed the medication adherence is at medium level among infertile women undergoing FET cycle, especially in patients with repeated FET cycles. The study also suggested that improving the hope level and social support of infertile women undergoing FET cycle may increase medication adherence.

As a necessary tool for understanding, prediction, and design (especially on a microscopic scale), Quantum chemical (QC) methods have a profound impact on the field of energetic materials (EMs). This study focuses upon the QC methods applicable to energetic molecules and their related applications. They generally include the Hartree-Fock method, semi-empirical QC methods, density functional theory (DFT), and high-accuracy ab initio methods. This study includes a detailed discussion about the application scope and accuracy of the descriptions of the geometric structure, electronic structure, thermodynamic property, and reactivity of energetic molecules. Additionally, this study stresses machine learning combined with DFT calculations that becomes increasingly popular as an important way to establish models for accurate property predictions. This work is expected to be instructive and constructive for the use of QC methods in EM study.

The goal of this study is to investigate the causes of osteoporosis-related skeletal fragility in postmenopausal women. We hypothesize that bone fragility in these individuals is largely due to mineral, and/or intrinsic material properties in the osteocyte lacunar/peri-lacunar regions of bone tissue. Innovative measurements with nanoscale resolution, including scanning electron microscope (SEM), an atomic force microscope that is integrated with infrared spectroscopy (AFM-IR), and nanoindentation, were used to characterize osteocyte lacunar and peri-lacunar properties in bone biopsies from fracturing (Cases) and matched (Age, BMD), non-fracturing (Controls) postmenopausal healthy women. In the peri-lacunar space, the nanoindentation results show that the modulus and hardness of the Controls are lower than the Cases. The AFM-IR results conclusively show that the mineral matrix, maturity (peak) (except in outer/far regions in Controls) were greater in Controls than in Cases. Furthermore, these results indicate that while mineral-to-matrix area ratio tend to be greater, the mineral maturity and crystallinity peak ratio “near” lacunae is greater than at regions “far” or more distance from lacunae in the Controls only. Due to the heterogeneity of bone structure, additional measurements are needed to provide more convincing evidence of altered lacunar characteristics and changes in the peri-lacunar bone as mechanisms related to postmenopausal women and fragility. Such findings would motivate new osteocyte-targeted treatments to reduce fragility fracture risks in these groups.

Plain language summary Hope level is closely related to patients' mental health and emotional state. Therefore, improving the hope level of infertile women with IVF-ET could contribute to relieving the psychological pressure of patients and improving the success rate of pregnancy. This study aimed to evaluate the hope level of infertile women with different IVF-ET cycles and analyse its influencing factors to provide guidance for clinical nurses to clarify the intervention objects, select reasonable intervention measures and improve the hope levels of patients. A total of 298 IVF-ET patients were recruited in the study, including 150 in the first-time cycle group and 148 in the repeated cycle group. The results showed that the hope level of patients with repeated IVF-ET cycles was significantly lower than that of patients undergoing first-time treatment. We also analysed its influencing factors and found that repeated IVF-ET cycles and age were independent negative correlation factors in hope levels. High monthly income, living in the city, high marital adjustment and social support score were independent positive correlation factors in hope levels. Therefore, maintaining a good marriage adjustment and establishing a good social support and relationship network could effectively improve their hope levels.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to examine associations between psychosocial factors and fertility-related quality of life (FertiQoL) among infertile women with repeated implantation failure (RIF), and to identify the possible role of resilience in mediating the effect of social support on FertiQoL.Materials and methodsA cross-sectional study was conducted with 234 infertile women with RIF in total. Fertility quality of life scale (FertiQoL), perceived social support scale (PSSS), and Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) were used to evaluate the patients. Data were described by univariate and multivariate analyses. Stepwise regression method was performed to analyse the mediating effect of resilience.ResultsSocial support had a positive predictive effect on FertiQoL (β = 0.757, P < 0.001), also positive on resilience (β = 0.847, P < 0.001). After both variables were added to the regression equation, resilience was found to have a significant positive predictive effect on FertiQoL (β = 0.798, P < 0.001), while the predictive effect of social support on FertiQoL was no longer significant (β = 0.081, P > 0.05). The results indicated that resilience played a complete mediating role between social support and FertiQoL.ConclusionThis study preliminarily verified the mediating role of resilience between social support and FertiQoL among infertile women with RIF. Interventions that consider enhancing resilience and building social support will likely improve their FertiQoL.

With an poorly characterized pathogenesis, Diabetic encephalopathy (DE), one of the main chronic complications of diabetes, would require further studies. Recent studies have proven that DE developing in conjunction with neuronal apoptosis, which is tightly regulated by a variety of processes and involved with histone acetylation and molecular signaling or so on. Though the histone deacetylase 4 (HDAC4), HDAC5, HDAC7, and HDAC9 form class IIa of the HDAC superfamily have been found participating in multiple neurodegenerative diseases, while JNK signaling pathway activation was hypothesized as a key cause leading to cell apoptosis, the correlation between HDAC4 and JNK signaling pathway remains unknown. Studies have found that Radix Polygoni Multiflori (RPM) contains a variety of ingredients, such as TSG and Emodin, could exert antioxidant effects, scavenge free radicals, inhibit cell apoptosis and provide neuroprotection, but the underlying mechanism has not fully elucidated yet. In the present study, we further explored the mechanism by which RPM improves the cognitive function of diabetic rats. Simultaneously, TSG and Emodin were used to stimulate HT-22 hippocampal neurons treated with high glucose. After RPM extracts or TSG, Emodin treatments, the cognitive functions of DE rats improved while the hippocampal neurons arranged tighter and increased. Meanwhile, the expression level of HAT, HDAC, HDAC4 and JNK signaling pathway and apoptosis related genes were decreased. Our finds indicates that RPM and Emodin would inhibit HDAC4 expression, curb the activation of the JNK pathway, reduce hippocampal neuron apoptosis and ultimately meliorate the cognitive function from diabetes. Additionally, the markedly inhibitory effects of the RPM and Emodin on HAT and HDAC was identified for the first time in this study, which provides a basis for future drug targeting histones acetylation development and application.

The potential practical applications of high-energy 1,3,5,7-tetranittro-1,3,5,7-tetrazocane (HMX) are hindered by their unfavorable safety behavior and sluggish thermal decomposition. This paper proposes dye-assisted assembly of HMX crystals with crystal violet (CV) as soft templates (denoted as CV-HMX). As revealed by the XPS and molecular-dynamics simulations, preferred electrical interactions between HMX and conjugation electrons in planar CV molecular ensure that the resultant CV-HMX has a two-dimensional (2D) microstructure. The BAM impact sensitivity of CV-HMX is 12.5 ​J, higher than that of raw-HMX (5 ​J) and HMX recrystallized from pure water (PW-HMX; 4.5 ​J). Meanwhile, the BAM friction sensitivity of CV-HMX is 320 ​N, also much higher than that of PW-HMX (96 ​N) and raw-HMX (88 ​N). In addition, the decomposition kinetics of CV-HMX is improved due to its large specific surface area and high pore volume. Such dye-template assembly can be applied to a large number of systems, indicating that the method proposed in this work is universal. This work provides synergistic template regulation on morphology and pore structure using general dye-assisted assembly, holding great promises in developing practically viable high energy materials with favorable sensitivity and improved energy release performance.

The phonon is one of the most important elementary excitation in solid system, as a gene related to the thermal properties and chemical stability of energetic materials. This paper reviews the molecular modeling methods and theoretical applications of phonon spectra for energetic crystals, and details the phonon-based investigations of lattice stability, thermal properties, vibrational spectra, and initiation mechanism. Besides, it presents a perspective on coupling mechanics, phonons, and chemical reactions, aiming to achieve deep understanding of the ignition mechanism of energetic crystals.

Insensitive high explosive 1,3,5-triamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene (TATB) and TATB-based formulations are widely used in civil and defense applications. However, it undergoes high deformation on exposure to heat and large external force, which leads to fatal defects, limiting its application in modern weapons. Inspired by mussels, polydopamine (PDA) was selected for coating TATB through a one-step in-situ polymerization process. The kinetics of the PDA film coating onto TATB particles depended on the experimental parameters. The increase in the initial concentration of dopamine solution and reaction temperature facilitated PDA polymerization and deposition. The accelerated deposition kinetics could be observed by altering the reaction air atmosphere to an oxygen atmosphere. Therefore, the content of the PDA shell could be controlled by adjusting the reaction conditions. Structural characterizations confirmed the formation of core-shell composites with a uniform and compact shell layer. Study of the kinetics of dopamine deposition on explosive surfaces provides a potential method of controllable surface modification of energetic materials with functional group layers.

Abstract Background Despite the burgeoning literature describing preoperative and postoperative risks of a myasthenic crisis after thymectomy (MCAT) in patients with myasthenia gravis, substantial differences exist in the risk factors identified by previous studies. We conducted a meta-analysis to assess the reported risk factors and MCAT risk. Methods We collected relevant studies on the risk factors for MCAT by searching the PubMed, Embase, The Cochrane Library, China Biology Medicine (CBM), WanFang Data, VIP and CNKI databases. The search period ranged from the establishment of the database to November 2019. Results Twenty-five of the 458 identified studies were eligible for the meta-analysis. Seven retrospective cohort studies and 18 case-control studies were included, and 14 risk factors for MCAT were extracted. Meta-analyses of the association between MCAT and risk factors related to the patient’s preoperative condition included a preoperative history of MC, preoperative bulbar symptoms, IIa + IIb + III + VI, IIb + III + VI, VI + V, dosage of pyridostigmine bromide prior to the operation, a preoperative AchR-Ab level > 100 (nm/L), preoperative pulmonary function, preoperative complications, and preoperative disease course. Meta-analyses of the association between MCAT and surgery-related risk factors included intraoperative blood loss > 1000 mL and the mode of operation. Meta-analyses of the association between MCAT and postoperative risk factors included postoperative lung infection, thymoma and the WHO classification. The operation time was not an independent risk factor for MCAT. Conclusions The independent risk factors for MCAT were a preoperative history of MC, preoperative bulbar symptoms, preoperative MG Osserman stage, preoperative dosage of pyridostigmine bromide, preoperative serum AchR-Ab level, lung function, major postoperative complications, disease duration before thymectomy, blood loss, thoracotomy, postoperative lung infection, thymoma, and WHO classification.

Abstract Background Costello syndrome (CS, OMIM 218040) is a rare congenital disorder caused by mutations in HRAS. Previous studies reported that approximately 80% of patients with CS share the same pathogenic variant in HRAS gene in c.34G> A (p.G12S). Here, we report a CS patient with c.34G> A (p.G12D) variant in HRAS gene and she presented with special manifestation. Methods and Results We describe a 31‐year‐old female patient who presented with distinctive facial appearance, intellectual disability, dental abnormalities, hyperkeratosis of palmer and planter, loose skin at birth, papillomata on the face and nipples. The whole‐exome sequencing (WES) technology provided by Haotian Biotechnology (China) confirmed p.G12D variant in HRAS gene. To elucidate the typical features of CS with p.G12D variant, we further reviewed these previously reported cases and found that patients with G12D variant died within three months after birth due to multiple organ failure. They had the typical facial characteristics, failure to thrive, skin and cardiac abnormalities, and gene testing confirmed the diagnosis of CS. Conclusion To the best of our knowledge, this is the first article to report a patient with a p.G12D variant that had special but mild manifestation. Moreover, this report and literature review casts new light on the clinical features of p.G12D variant.

Ambiguous appearance discrimination plays an important role in the impurity detection task. Among the majority of deep learning models, images from every sequence are processed separately instead of being considered collectively. Therefore, the outputs of these models given a single region proposal might not be accurate. In this paper, a gallery-guided graph architecture is proposed and integrated to overcome such limitations. Specifically, region proposals are firstly generated using a two-stream fusion network; then their feature embeddings are extracted from a convolutional neural network by reducing intra-class variations while increasing inter-class ones. Secondly, a graph representing clusters among different training sequences updates relationships between region proposals in the test sequence. Finally, the features of the graph are classified by a graph convolutional neural network. Different from those learned weights in conventional common object detectors, region features from all the training sequences are explicitly integrated into a gallery-guided graph architecture. Extensive experiments on IML-DET dataset demonstrate that our proposed method can obtain competitive performances compared with previous state-of-the-art object detection approaches transferred into this task.

In order to improve the thermostability of lipases derived from Rhizopus chinensis, we identified lipase (Lipr27RCL) mutagenesis sites that were associated with enhanced flexibility based upon B-factor analysis and multiple sequence alignment. We found that two mutated isoforms (Lipr27RCL-K64N and Lipr27RCL-K68T) exhibited enhanced thermostability and improved residual activity, with respective thermal activity retention values of 37.88% and 48.20% following a 2 h treatment at 50°C relative to wild type Lipr27RCL. In addition, these Lipr27RCL-K64N and Lipr27RCL-K68T isoforms exhibited 2.4- and 3.0-fold increases in enzymatic half-life following a 90 min incubation at 60°C. Together these results indicate that novel mutant lipases with enhanced thermostability useful for industrial applications can be predicted based upon B-factor analysis and constructed via site-directed mutagenesis.

Lung disease causes significant morbidity and mortality, and is exacerbated by environmental injury, for example through lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or ozone (O3). Toll-like receptors (TLRs) orchestrate immune responses to injury by recognizing pathogen- or danger-associated molecular patterns. TLR4, the prototypic receptor for LPS, also mediates inflammation after O3, triggered by endogenous hyaluronan. Regulation of TLR4 signaling is incompletely understood. TLR5, the flagellin receptor, is expressed in alveolar macrophages, and regulates immune responses to environmental injury. Using in vivo animal models of TLR4-mediated inflammations (LPS, O3, hyaluronan), we show that TLR5 impacts the in vivo response to LPS, hyaluronan and O3. We demonstrate that immune cells of human carriers of a dominant negative TLR5 allele have decreased inflammatory response to O3 exposure ex vivo and LPS exposure in vitro. Using primary murine macrophages, we find that TLR5 physically associates with TLR4 and biases TLR4 signaling towards the MyD88 pathway. Our results suggest an updated paradigm for TLR4/TLR5 signaling.

Energetic molecular crystals are widely applied for military and civilian purposes, and molecular forcefields (FF) are indispensable for treating the microscopic issues therein. This article reviews the three types of molecular FFs that are applied widely for describing energetic crystals—classic FFs, consistent FFs, and reactive FFs (ReaxFF). The basic principle of each type of FF is briefed and compared, with the application introduced, predicting polymorph, morphology, thermodynamics, vibration spectra, thermal property, mechanics, and reactivity. Finally, the advantages and disadvantages of these FFs are summarized, and some directions of future development are suggested.

Abstract Background The prevalence of depression in the elderly is growing worldwide, and the population aging in China makes depression a major health problem for the elderly adults and a tremendous burden to the society. Effective interventions should be determined to provide an approach solving the problem and improving the situation. This study examined the effectiveness of a mutual recovery program intervention on depressive symptom, sleep quality, and well-being in community-dwelling elderly adults with depressive symptom in Shanghai. Methods Recruitment was performed between July 2012 and August 2012. Using a cluster randomized wait-list controlled design, we randomized 6 communities (n = 237) into either the intervention group (3 communities, n = 105) or to a wait-list control group (3 communities, n = 132). All participants met the inclusion criteria for depression, which were defined by The Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15). From March to May of 2013, participants in the intervention group underwent a 2-month mutual recovery program intervention. The intervention included seven 90-min, weekly sessions that were based on a standardized self-designed schedule. Depression was used as primary outcome at three measurement moments: baseline (T1), before intervention at 24 weeks (T2), and immediately after intervention at 32 weeks (T3). Well-being and sleep quality were used as the secondary outcomes, and were evaluated based on the WHO-5 Well-being Index (WHO-5) and the Self-administered Sleep Questionnaire (SSQ). Finally, a total of 225 participants who completed all the sessions and the three measurements entered the final analysis. Mixed-model repeated measures ANOVAs were performed to estimate the intervention effects. Results There was no significant difference in gender, marriage, age structure, post-work type, and education background between the intervention and control group at baseline. Multivariate ANOVAs showed that there was no significant difference within the groups in terms of sleep, well-being, and depression at baseline and before the intervention. Mixed-model repeated measures ANOVAs detected a group × time interaction on depression, sleep, and well-being and showed a favorable intervention effect within groups immediately after the intervention. Conclusions The mutual recovery program could be a creative and effective approach to improve mental health in older community-dwelling adults with depressive symptom.

Endotoxin damage is an acute, multi-organ disease, the most typical symptoms of which are liver injury and inflammatory cytokine storm. Endotoxin tolerance is described as the pretreatment of lipopolysaccharides (LPS) before the toxin invasion, which is consistent with the adaptive response induced by low-dose radiation (LDR). In this study, we verified that LDR could resist the endotoxin damage by suppressing the increase of inflammatory cytokines, including interleukin 6, tumor necrosis factor, and NO, to improve the survival and relieve the inflammatory cell infiltration, in which low dose of LPS performed consistently with LDR.

Energy demand is closely related to energy price, GDP and population. By using the shortest path algorithm and K-means clustering, we set up the spatial nodes, and carried out the model simulation to predict the energy demand of Yunnan Province. The results show that the total energy consumption of Yunnan Province will still show an upward trend from 2020 to 2015; hydropower silicon integration projects in Yunnan Province, the power supply and demand situation in Yunnan Province will change from oversupply to basic balance between supply and demand, and the role of thermal power in dry season will be played to make the decline of coal consumption tend to be smooth; from 2020 to 2025, Yunnan’s electricity consumption will increase by about 8.02% year-on-year. However, according to the commissioning of some projects, the total electricity consumption in the province will be about 192.9 billion kwh in 2020, with a yearon-year increase of 12.3%.
