1. Contrastive Representation for Data Filtering in Cross-Domain Offline Reinforcement Learning

Abstract

Cross-domain offline reinforcement learning leverages source domain data with diverse transition dynamics to alleviate the data requirement for the target domain. However, simply merging the data of two domains leads to performance degradation due to the dynamics mismatch. Existing methods address this problem by measuring the dynamics gap via domain classifiers while relying on the assumptions of the transferability of paired domains. In this paper, we propose a novel representation-based approach to measure the domain gap, where the representation is learned through a contrastive objective by sampling transitions from different domains. We show that such an objective recovers the mutual-information gap of transition functions in two domains without suffering from the unbounded issue of the dynamics gap in handling significantly different domains. Based on the representations, we introduce a data filtering algorithm that selectively shares transitions from the source domain according to the contrastive score functions. Empirical results on various tasks demonstrate that our method achieves superior performance, using only 10% of the target data to achieve 89.2% of the performance on 100% target dataset with state-of-the-art methods., Comment: This paper has been accepted by ICML2024

2. Towards Robust Offline-to-Online Reinforcement Learning via Uncertainty and Smoothness

Abstract

To obtain a near-optimal policy with fewer interactions in Reinforcement Learning (RL), a promising approach involves the combination of offline RL, which enhances sample efficiency by leveraging offline datasets, and online RL, which explores informative transitions by interacting with the environment. Offline-to-Online (O2O) RL provides a paradigm for improving an offline trained agent within limited online interactions. However, due to the significant distribution shift between online experiences and offline data, most offline RL algorithms suffer from performance drops and fail to achieve stable policy improvement in O2O adaptation. To address this problem, we propose the Robust Offline-to-Online (RO2O) algorithm, designed to enhance offline policies through uncertainty and smoothness, and to mitigate the performance drop in online adaptation. Specifically, RO2O incorporates Q-ensemble for uncertainty penalty and adversarial samples for policy and value smoothness, which enable RO2O to maintain a consistent learning procedure in online adaptation without requiring special changes to the learning objective. Theoretical analyses in linear MDPs demonstrate that the uncertainty and smoothness lead to a tighter optimality bound in O2O against distribution shift. Experimental results illustrate the superiority of RO2O in facilitating stable offline-to-online learning and achieving significant improvement with limited online interactions.

3. A roundtrip probability estimation method for mechanical equipment fault detection under imbalanced samples

Abstract

Aiming at high misdetection of mechanical faults under imbalanced samples, a roundtrip probability-based method is proposed. By roundtrip mapping between latent variables and real fault data, biased estimation of the probability distribution of real fault data is obtained. Further, virtual fault data are sampled according to such distribution to increase sample amount. For recognition of real and virtual data, loss function based on binary cross-entropy is designed. For reconstruction between fault data and its roundtrip mapped results, objective function based on mean square error is designed. Thus, it preserves boundary data and avoids too many virtual data in central area. Meanwhile, a strategy for eliminating abnormal samples is designed to reduce boundary deviation. For supporting the advantage of roundtrip, in-depth reasons for misdetection are analyzed from empirical risk and structural risk. Experiments on 30 benchmark imbalanced test sets show that fault detection rate increases after amount enhancement. Additionally, it is verified on blade cracking and bearing fault detection. Results show that F 1 score increases from 0.485 to 0.51 and 0.725 to 0.775 for such two cases.

Abstract

ObjectiveTo compare the effects of four intermittent fasting regimens on blood glucose and insulin sensitivity in people with type 2 diabetes.MethodsRandomized controlled trials of intermittent fasting in the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Embase, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, CNKI, VIP Database, and WANFANG Database were searched for from the library to September 2023. 2 review authors independently screened studies and extracted data. RevMan 5.4 was used for direct comparison of meta-results. Network meta-analysis was performed using Stata16 software.Results13 studies with a total of 867 patients were included. The intervention effects of twice-per-week fasting, fasting-mimicking diet, time-restricted eating, and peridic fasting were better than that of conventional diet. The results of the network comparison showed that there was no significant difference in the intervention effect of the intermittent fasting regimens. SUCRA ranking results showed that the twice-per-week fasting was best for comprehensive interventions for improvement.ConclusionFrom the perspective of fasting blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin and insulin resistance, the twice-per-week fasting intervention has a good effect, which can be used as a reference for patients with inter-type 2 diabetes to choose intermittent fasting regimen. However, more clinical trials are needed to verify this at a later stage.

Abstract

In this study, we introduce \textbf{AttendSeg}, a low-precision, highly compact deep neural network tailored for on-device semantic segmentation. AttendSeg possesses a self-attention network architecture comprising of light-weight attention condensers for improved spatial-channel selective attention at a very low complexity. The unique macro-architecture and micro-architecture design properties of AttendSeg strike a strong balance between representational power and efficiency, achieved via a machine-driven design exploration strategy tailored specifically for the task at hand. Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed AttendSeg can achieve segmentation accuracy comparable to much larger deep neural networks with greater complexity while possessing a significantly lower architecture and computational complexity (requiring as much as >27x fewer MACs, >72x fewer parameters, and >288x lower weight memory requirements), making it well-suited for TinyML applications on the edge., Comment: 5 pages

49. Decision of Straw Deep Burial and Aluminum Sulfate Drip Irrigation in Soda Saline Soil Based on Grey Relation Analysis and TOPSIS Coupling.

Abstract

To investigate the impact of combining aluminum sulfate with straw and irrigation water to enhance soil quality in soda saline–alkali soil, in this study a field experiment was conducted in Tongliao City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China. With beet IM1162 as the indicator crop, four levels of aluminum sulfate dosage (30, 60, 90, 120 g m−2) and four levels of drip irrigation water quota (225, 270, 315, 360 m3 ha−1) were set. The study examined the impact of varying levels of aluminum sulfate and irrigation water on soil water salt and crop yield. Next, using a comprehensive evaluation method, the optimal quantities of aluminum sulfate and irrigation water needed for effective soil improvement were determined. The research findings indicate that the most effective treatment (W2S3) involved an aluminum sulfate dosage of 90 g m−2 and an irrigation quota of 270 m3 ha−1. This treatment resulted in significant improvements compared to the control (CK) group. Specifically, in the 0–50 cm soil layer, the following improvements were observed: the water storage capacity (SWS) increased by 51.7%; evapotranspiration (ET) increased by 16.2%; water use efficiency (WUE) increased by 55.0%; and irrigation water use efficiency (IWUE) increased by 98.1% (p < 0.05). These results emphasize the importance of optimizing the combination of aluminum sulfate dosage and irrigation water quota to improve soil conditions and crop performance. It is worth nothing that this study highlights the potential for enhancing water use efficiency and crop yield in agricultural practices, which can contribute to sustainable and efficient farming practices. The study results revealed significant improvements in soil quality and crop yield when compared to the control group (CK). Specifically, in the 0–50 cm soil layer: the soil salt content decreased by 19.8%, soil pH increased by 8.7%, and exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP) decreased by 34.0%. Moreover, the crop yield in the treatment group increased significantly, by 32.1%. These findings indicate the positive impact of the intervention on soil health and agricultural productivity. The study employed the game theory combination weighting method to comprehensively evaluate soil water, salt, and various yield indicators. The results showed that the sustainability weight for crop yield reached 0.116, emphasizing the aim of soil improvement: the sustainable enhancement of crop yield. This approach underscores the importance of balanced soil management practices to ensure long-term agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability. The comprehensive evaluation results of grey relation analysis and the TOPSIS coupling model showed that the soil improvement effect score was the highest when the dosage of aluminum sulfate was 61.7–120.0 g m−2, and the irrigation quota was 250.4–319.4 m3 ha−1, which was the recommended range for the local area.
