Abstract

Massive stars end their life as core-collapse supernovae, amongst which some extremes are Type Ic broad-lined supernovae associated with long-duration gamma-ray bursts (LGRBs) having powerful relativistic jets. Their less-extreme brethren make unsuccessful jets that are choked inside the stars, appearing as X-ray flashes or low-luminosity GRBs. On the other hand, there exists a population of extragalactic fast X-ray transients (EFXTs) with timescales ranging from seconds to thousands of seconds, whose origins remain obscure. Known sources that contribute to the observed EFXT population include the softer analogs of LGRBs, shock breakouts of supernovae, or unsuccessful jets. Here, we report the discovery of the bright X-ray transient EP240414a detected by the Einstein Probe (EP), which is associated with the Type Ic supernova SN 2024gsa at a redshift of 0.401. The X-ray emission evolution is characterised by a very soft energy spectrum peaking at < 1.3 keV, which makes it distinct from known LGRBs, X-ray flashes, or low-luminosity GRBs. Follow-up observations at optical and radio bands revealed the existence of a weak relativistic jet that interacts with an extended shell surrounding the progenitor star. Located on the outskirts of a massive galaxy, this event reveals a new population of explosions of Wolf-Rayet stars characterised by a less powerful engine that drives a successful but weak jet, possibly owing to a progenitor star with a smaller core angular momentum than in traditional LGRB progenitors., Comment: 43 pages, 9 figures, 4 tables, submitted. 3. Nonreciprocal field transformation with active acoustic metasurfaces

Abstract

Field transformation, as an extension of the transformation optics, provides a unique means for nonreciprocal wave manipulation, while the experimental realization remains a significant challenge as it requires stringent material parameters of the metamaterials, e.g., purely nonreciprocal bianisotropic parameters. Here, we develop and demonstrate a nonreciprocal field transformation in a 2D acoustic system, using an active metasurface that can independently control all constitutive parameters and achieve purely nonreciprocal Willis coupling. The field-transforming metasurface enables tailor-made field distribution manipulation, achieving localized field amplification by a predetermined ratio. Interestingly, the metasurface demonstrates the self-adaptive capability to various excitation conditions and can extend to other geometric shapes. The metasurface also achieves nonreciprocal wave propagation for internal and external excitations, demonstrating a one-way acoustic device. Such a field-transforming metasurface not only extends the framework of the transformation theory for nonreciprocal wave manipulation, but also holds significant potential in applications such as ultra-sensitive sensors and nonreciprocal communication., Comment: 20 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

The second brightest GRB in history, GRB230307A provides an ideal laboratory to study the details of GRB prompt emission thanks to its extraordinarily high photon statistics and its single broad pulse overall shape characterized by an energy-dependent fast-rise-exponential-decay (FRED) profile. Here we demonstrate that its broad pulse is composed of many rapidly variable short pulses, rather than being the superposition of many short pulses on top of a slow component. Such a feature is consistent with the picture of many mini-jets due to local magnetic reconnection events in a large emission zone far from the GRB central engine, as envisaged in the internal-collision-induced magnetic reconnection and turbulence (ICMART) model, but raises a great challenge to the internal shock models that attribute all variability components to collisions among different shells. Since relativistic mini-jets demand strong magnetization in the outflow, this work provides strong evidence for a Poynting-flux-dominated jet composition of this bright GRB., Comment: 7 pages and 2 figures in the main text. 27 pages and 9 figures in total

Abstract

The central engine that powers gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), the most powerful explosions in the universe, is still not identified. Besides hyper-accreting black holes, rapidly spinning and highly magnetized neutron stars, known as millisecond magnetars, have been suggested to power both long and short GRBs. The presence of a magnetar engine following compact star mergers is of particular interest as it would provide essential constraints on the poorly understood equation of state for neutron stars. Indirect indications of a magnetar engine in these merger sources have been observed in the form of plateau features present in the X-ray afterglow light curves of some short GRBs. Additionally, some X-ray transients lacking gamma-ray bursts (GRB-less) have been identified as potential magnetar candidates originating from compact star mergers. Nevertheless, smoking gun evidence is still lacking for a magnetar engine in short GRBs, and the associated theoretical challenges have been raised. Here we present a comprehensive analysis of the broad-band prompt emission data of a peculiar, very bright GRB 230307A. Despite its apparently long duration, the prompt emission and host galaxy properties are consistent with a compact star merger origin, as suggested by its association with a kilonova. Intriguingly, an extended X-ray emission component shows up as the $\gamma$-ray emission dies out, signifying the likely emergence of a magnetar central engine. We also identify an achromatic temporal break in the high-energy band during the prompt emission phase, which was never observed in previous bursts and reveals a narrow jet with half opening angle of approximately $\sim 3.4^\circ (R_{GRB}/10^{15}~{cm})^{-1/2}$, where $R_{GRB}$ is the GRB prompt emission radius., Comment: 54 pages, 11 figures, 5 tables, accepted for publication in National Science Review

Abstract

Gravitational-wave high-energy Electromagnetic Counterpart All-sky Monitor (GECAM) is a space-borne instrument dedicated to monitoring high-energy transients, including Terrestrial Gamma-ray Flashes (TGFs) and Terrestrial Electron Beams (TEBs). We implemented a TGF/TEB search algorithm for GECAM, with which 147 bright TGFs, 2 typical TEBs and 2 special TEB-like events are identified during an effective observation time of $\sim$9 months. We show that, with gamma-ray and charged particle detectors, GECAM can effectively identify and distinguish TGFs and TEBs, and measure their temporal and spectral properties in detail. A very high TGF-lightning association rate of $\sim$80\% is obtained between GECAM and GLD360 in east Asia region., Comment: The paper was accepted by Geophysical Research Letters on June 16th, 2023

Predictors were explored using univariate and logistic regression analysis. We compared the discrimination of inflammatory indice-based model 1 with models 2 and 3, which included image biomarkers, using the receiver operating characteristic curve and De Long test for area under the curve comparison.Results: A total of 205 eligible participants were included, 56 (27.3%) of whom experienced HE. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), black hole sign, BAT score, and computed tomography angiography (CTA) spot sign were independently associated with HE in the logistic regression (P< 0.05). The addition of non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT) signs did not provide significant discrimination improvement (AUC, Model 2 0.875 [95% CI, 0.822– 0.929] versus Model 1. 0.811 [95% CI, 0.747– 0.875], p=0.089), whereas the added value of the CTA spot sign remained statistically significant (AUC, Model 3 0.922 [95% CI, 0.878– 0.966] versus Model 2; p=0.030; Model 3 versus Model 1, p=0.005).Conclusion: The combination of inflammatory and radiological biomarkers can predict HE with a satisfactory performance.Keywords: intracerebral hemorrhage, hematoma expansion, computed tomography angiography, spot sign, BAT score, neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio

It seeks to construct and implement a targeted health education program informed by empowerment education theory and evaluate its effectiveness.Methods: Through semi-structured interviews, we explored the diverse health education needs of family caregivers of people with epilepsy, identifying key themes and constructing a responsive health education plan. The program’s effectiveness was assessed through a quasi-experimental study. The control group received routine health education, while the intervention group participated in an empowerment-based education program in addition to the standard protocol. We evaluated changes in caregivers’ disease management capabilities, knowledge about epilepsy, and quality of life at baseline, one month, and three months post-intervention using appropriate statistical analyses to confirm significance.Results: Sixty-five family caregivers participated, with 32 in the intervention group and 33 in the control group. Guided by phenomenological research, four main themes were identified. Significant improvements in disease management, epilepsy knowledge, and quality of life were observed in the intervention group, exceeding those in the control group at both follow-up intervals (p< 0.05).Conclusion: An empowerment-based health education program significantly enhances caregivers’ competencies across age groups in managing epilepsy, underscoring its effectiveness as an intervention model.Keywords: epilepsy, caregiver, health education, empowered theory

The aim of this research is to evaluate the relationship between HDL levels and spirometry as well as imaging parameters in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in China.Methods: This study encompasses a total of 907 COPD patients. Participants with complete data from questionnaire interviews, lipid profile examinations, spirometry testing, and computed tomography (CT) scans were included in the analysis. A generalized additive model was employed to identify the non-linear relationship between HDL levels and both spirometry and imaging parameters. In the presence of non-linear correlations, segmented linear regression model was applied to ascertain threshold effects.Results: After adjusting for various factors, we found a non-linear correlation between HDL levels and spirometry/imaging parameters, with an inflection point at 4.2 (66 mg/dL). When Ln (HDL) was below 4.2, each unit increase correlated significantly with reduced post-bronchodilator FEV1 (0.32L, 95% CI: 0.09– 0.55), decreased predicted FEV1% (11.0%, 95% CI: 2.7– 19.3), and lowered FEV1/FVC (8.0%, 95% CI: 4.0– 12.0), along with notable increases in Ln (LAA− 950) by 1.20 (95% CI: 0.60– 1.79) and Ln (LAA− 856) by 0.77 (95% CI: 0.37– 1.17). However, no significant associations were observed when Ln (HDL) was greater than or equal to 4.2.Conclusion: A non-linear correlation existed between HDL levels with lung function and CT imaging in COPD patients. Prior to reaching 66 mg/dL, an elevation in HDL was significantly associated with impaired lung function, more severe gas trapping and emphysema.Keywords: COPD, high-density lipoprotein, lung function, computed tomography imaging

The histopathological upgrading of the lesions previously detected on vaginal biopsy and postoperative pregnancy outcomes of were investigated, to identify high-risk subgroups in women.Methods: A retrospective study was conducted at the First Central Hospital of Baoding City from June 2019 to December 2022 to analyze confirmed cases of Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia CIN-II and CIN-III. Investigation of pathological changes in postoperative pathological tissues, and to perform binary logistic analysis to identify risk factors for histopathological escalation in postoperative lesions. We analyze the effects of CKC surgery on pregnancy outcomes in patients by comparing against a control group of healthy pregnant women.Results: Out of the 176 patients diagnosed with CIN-II who underwent cervical biopsy, 39 (22.16%) were found to have a final specimen diagnosis of CIN-III, while 7 (3.98%) were downgraded to CIN-I. Among the 108 patients diagnosed with CIN-III who underwent cervical biopsy, 7 cases (6.48%) were ultimately confirmed to have CIN-III. Ki67-positive, p16-positive (OR = 1.13, 95% CI 1.01– 1.15), and colposcopy biopsy for CIN-II (OR = 1.59, 95% CI 1.33– 3.6) were independent risk factors for pathological upgrade after CKC. Compared with healthy pregnant women, CIN patients had higher rates of premature birth (14.4%), premature rupture of the fetal membrane (13.6%), and cesarean section (37.5%) (P < 0.05). The mode of conception, abortion rate, ectopic pregnancy rate, and postpartum hemorrhage were not different between healthy pregnant women and CIN patients (P > 0.05).Conclusion: Following cervical multi-point biopsy or CKC, along with pathological examination, the accurate diagnosis of cervical lesions is crucial as it allows for more precise identification of such lesions. Abstract

The Super $\tau$-Charm facility (STCF) is an electron-positron collider proposed by the Chinese particle physics community. It is designed to operate in a center-of-mass energy range from 2 to 7 GeV with a peak luminosity of $0.5\times 10^{35}{\rm cm}^{-2}{\rm s}^{-1}$ or higher. The STCF will produce a data sample about a factor of 100 larger than that by the present $\tau$-Charm factory -- the BEPCII, providing a unique platform for exploring the asymmetry of matter-antimatter (charge-parity violation), in-depth studies of the internal structure of hadrons and the nature of non-perturbative strong interactions, as well as searching for exotic hadrons and physics beyond the Standard Model. The STCF project in China is under development with an extensive R\&D program. This document presents the physics opportunities at the STCF, describes conceptual designs of the STCF detector system, and discusses future plans for detector R\&D and physics case studies.

While curcumin has shown therapeutic effects on OA, its mechanism remains unknown. This study aimed to investigate the molecular mechanism of curcumin in treating OA through network pharmacology and both in vivo and in vitro experiments.Methods: Curcumin-related targets were obtained using the HERB and DrugBank databases. GeneCards and DisGeNET were used to build a target database for OA. The STRING database was employed to construct protein-protein interaction networks and analyze related protein interactions. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway and gene ontology enrichment analyses of core targets were performed using Metascape. In addition, Autodock software was utilized for molecular docking validation of curcumin and disease targets. Further validation of the main findings was conducted through in vitro and in vivo experiments. In the in vitro experiments, an inflammation model was constructed through nitric oxide donor (SNP) stimulation of chondrocytes. Subsequently, the regulatory effects of curcumin on core targets and signaling pathways were validated using Western blotting and immunofluorescence staining techniques. In the in vivo experiments, an OA model was established by performing medial meniscectomy on male Sprague–Dawley rats. The therapeutic effects were evaluated using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, histologic staining, and micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) techniques.Results: Core targets of curcumin relevant to OA therapy included tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9), B-cell lymphoma 2 (BCL-2), and caspase-3. The major biological processes involved oxidative stress and apoptotic processes, among others. The p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38/MAPK) pathway was identified as the most likely pathway involved. In vitro experiments showed that curcumin significantly reduced oxidative stress levels, inhibited the expression of inflammatory factors IL-6 and Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and downregulated the expression of MMP-9 and MMP-1. In addition, curcumin was found to regulate the expression of BCL-2 and caspase-3 through the p38/MAPK pathway, inhibiting chondrocyte apoptosis. In vivo animal experiments demonstrated that curcumin significantly reduced the expression of OA-related factors (IL-1, IL-6, and TNF-α). Histological analysis and micro-CT results revealed that curcumin treatment significantly increased cartilage thickness, improved cartilage morphology, structure, and function, inhibited cartilage degradation, and enhanced the resorption of subchondral bone in the knee joints of rats with OA.Conclusion: Curcumin regulates oxidative stress and maintains mitochondrial function, thereby protecting chondrocyte guard. In addition, curcumin attenuates the inflammatory response of chondrocytes by inhibiting the phosphorylation of P38MAPK, slowing down the breakdown of the extrachondral matrix while preventing apoptosis of chondrocytes. Despite advances in HER2-targeted therapy, 50% of patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive (HER2+) breast cancer develop brain metastases and are associated with poor outcomes. In this article, we report the case of a patient with HER2+ metastatic breast cancer who developed brain metastases, despite experiencing a durable effect on extracranial metastases after treatment with trastuzumab and pertuzumab. The patient exhibited intracranial progression while receiving treatment with trastuzumab deruxtecan monotherapy after secondary brain radiotherapy and multiple lines of therapy with anti-HER2 agents, such as pyrotinib, lapatinib, tucatinib, and ado-trastuzumab emtansine. However, the administration of anlotinib (an antiangiogenesis medication) and trastuzumab deruxtecan resulted in intracranial and extracranial partial response and was linked to manageable side effects. The present case indicates that the combination of anlotinib and trastuzumab deruxtecan may be a promising treatment option for patients with HER2+ breast cancer with brain metastasis. The relationship between perceived overload and loneliness, mental health, and Confucianism tenet moderated mediation models of perceived overload and mental health were created using SPSS 26.0 and PROCESS 4.1 for SPSS.Results: The perceived overload of a short video application for older adults directly predicted loneliness and mental health in older adults, and the Confucianism tenet moderated the mediation process between perceived overload and mental health. Perceived overload affects mental health through loneliness in older adults.Discussion: The results of this study are of practical significance for understanding the current problem of short-video addiction among older adults. Understanding the effects of perceived overload on older adults’ loneliness and mental health can help prevent loneliness and mental health problems caused by short-video addiction among older adults on the one hand, and on the other hand, it can also help to develop targeted coping strategies and create psychological intervention programs based on the Confucianism tenet of intervention ethics to improve mental health in a changing technological stress environment.Keywords: perceived overload, loneliness, mental health, Confucianism tenet

Nurses, as the primary caregivers responsible for the prevention and management of pressure injuries, have knowledge that directly determines the incidence of pressure injuries.Aim: To understand the current status of nurses’ knowledge of pressure injuries in Shaanxi Province and the factors influencing it.Design: A cross-sectional survey.Methods: In April - May 2022, 16,599 nurses from hospitals at all levels in Shaanxi Province were selected as survey subjects by convenience sampling method. They were surveyed using the general information questionnaire and the Pieper-Zulkowski pressure injury Knowledge Questionnaire through the Questionnaire Star platform.Results: 16,599 nurses had a pressure injury knowledge score of (44.32± 10.11). Wound description and pressure ulcer staging dimensions were less than 60% correct. Comparison of pressure injury knowledge scores of nursing staff with different genders, hospital levels, titles, education, whether they were specialized nurses in wound stoma when they last attended a lecture on pressure ulcers, when they last read literature or books on pressure ulcers, and whether they ever looked for information about pressure ulcers on the Internet showed that the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05), which were the influencing factors of the knowledge scores of the nursing staff in Shaanxi Province.Conclusion: Clinical nurses’ awareness of stress-related injuries still needs to be improved, and nursing administrators can improve the quality of pressure-related injury care by increasing nursing staff’s awareness through continuing education, tiered training, and other measures.Keywords: pressure injury, knowledge, prevention, management, influencing factor

Abstract

The Gravitational Wave highly energetic Electromagnetic Counterpart All-sky Monitor (GECAM) is dedicated to detecting gravitational wave gamma-ray bursts. It is capable of all-sky monitoring over and discovering gamma-ray bursts and new radiation phenomena. GECAM consists of two microsatellites, each equipped with 8 charged particle detectors (CPDs) and 25 gamma-ray detectors (GRDs). The CPD is used to measure charged particles in the space environment, monitor energy and flow intensity changes, and identify between gamma-ray bursts and space charged particle events in conjunction with GRD. CPD uses plastic scintillator as the sensitive material for detection, silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) array as the optically readable device, and the inlaid Am-241 radioactive source as the onboard calibration means. Abstract

One month after launching Gravitational wave high-energy Electromagnetic Counterpart All-sky Monitor (GECAM), a bright thermonuclear X-ray burst from 4U~0614+09, was observed on January 24, 2021. We report the time-resolved spectroscopy of the burst and a burst oscillation detection at 413 Hz with a fractional amplitude 3.4\% (rms). This coincides with the burst oscillation previously discovered with \textit{Swift}/BAT \citep{Strohmayer2008}, and therefore confirms the spin frequency of this source. This burst is the brightest one in the normal bursts (except the superburst) ever detected from 4U~0614+09, which leads to an upper limit of distance estimation as 3.1 kpc. The folded light curve during the burst oscillation shows a multi-peak structure, which is the first case observed during a single burst oscillation in nonpulsating sources. The multi-peak profile could be due to additional harmonics of the burst oscillation, which is corresponding to several brighter/fainter spots at the stellar surface.

Abstract

The Gravitational Wave Burst High-energy Electromagnetic Counterpart All-sky Monitor (GECAM), consists of 2 small satellites that each contain 25 LaBr3 (lanthanum bromide doped with cerium chloride) detectors and 8 plastic scintillator detectors. The detector signals are read out using a silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) array. In this study, an acquisition algorithm for in-orbit real-time SiPM array data is designed and implemented, and the output event packet is defined. Finally, the algorithm's efficacy for event acquisition is verified.

Abstract

As the main detector of the GECAM satellite, the calibration of the energy response and detection efficiency of the GRD detector is the main content of the ground-based calibration. The calibration goal requires the calibrated energy points to sample the full energy range (8 keV-2 MeV) as much as possible. The low energy band (8-160 keV) is calibrated with the X-ray beam, while the high energy band (>160 keV) with radioactive sources. This article mainly focuses on the calibration of the energy response and detection efficiency in the 8-160 keV with a refined measurement around the absorption edges of the lanthanum bromide crystal. The GRD performances for different crystal types, data acquisition modes, working modes, and incident positions are also analyzed in detail. We show that the calibration campaign is comprehensive, and the calibration results are generally consistent with simulations as expected., Comment: 16 pages,46 figures

Abstract

Background: Each GECAM satellite payload contains 25 gamma-ray detectors (GRDs), which can detect gamma-rays and particles and can roughly localize the Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs). GRD was designed using lanthanum bromide (LaBr3) crystal as the sensitive material with the rear end coupled with silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) array for readout. Purpose: In aerospace engineering design of GRD, there are many key points to be studied. In this paper, we present the specific design scheme of GRD, the assembly and the performance test results of detectors. Methods: Based on Monte Carlo simulation and experimental test results, the specific schematic design and assembling process ofGRDwere optimized. After being fully assembled, theGRDswere conducted performance tests by using radioactive source and also conducted random vibration tests. Result and conclusion: The test results show that all satellite-borne GRDs have energy resolution <16% at 59.5 keV, meeting requirements of satellite in scientific performance. The random vibration test shows that GRD can maintain in a stable performance, which meets the requirement of spatial application., Comment: 10 pages, 15 figures

Abstract

The GECAM mission consists of two identical microsatellites (GECAM-A and GECAM-B). Each satellite is equipped with 25 gamma-ray detectors (GRD) and 8 charged particle detectors (CPD). The main scientific objective of the GECAM mission is to detect gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) associated with the gravitational wave events produced by the merging of binary compact stars. After the launch on Dec. 10, 2020 , we carried out a series of on orbit tests. This paper introduces the test results of the GECAM-B satellite. According to the in-flight performance, the energy band for gamma-ray detection of GECAM-B is from about 7 keV to 3.5 MeV. GECAM-B can achieve prompt localization of GRBs. For the first time, GECAM-B realized a quasi-real-time transmission of trigger information using Beidou-3 RDSS. The discovery of gravitational waves and gamma-ray bursts heralds the era of multi-messenger astronomy. With the adoption of two small satellites to achieve the all-sky monitoring of gamma-ray bursts, the gravitational wave high-energy electromagnetic counterpart all-sky monitor (GECAM) possesses a quasi-real-time early warning ability and plays an important role in positioning the sources of gravitational waves and in subsequent observations.

Abstract

The Gravitational wave high-energy Electromagnetic Counterpart All-sky Monitor (GECAM) satellite consists of two small satellites. Each GECAM payload contains 25 gamma ray detectors (GRD) and 8 charged particle detectors (CPD). GRD is the main detector which can detect gamma-rays and particles and localize the Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRB),while CPD is used to help GRD to discriminate gamma-ray bursts and charged particle bursts. The GRD makes use of lanthanum bromide (LaBr3) crystal readout by SiPM. As the all available SiPM devices belong to commercial grade, quality assurance tests need to be performed in accordance with the aerospace specifications. In this paper, we present the results of quality assurance tests, especially a detailed mechanism analysis of failed devices during the development of GECAM. This paper also summarizes the application experience of commercial-grade SiPM devices in aerospace payloads, and provides suggestions for forthcoming SiPM space applications., Comment: 13 pages, 23 figures

Abstract

We present a spectral study of the black hole candidate MAXI J1348-630 during its 2019 outburst, based on monitoring observations with Insight-HXMT and Swift. Throughout the outburst, the spectra are well fitted with power-law plus disk-blackbody components. In the soft-intermediate and soft states, we observed the canonical relation L ~ T_in^4 between disk luminosity L and peak colour temperature T_in, with a constant inner radius R_in (traditionally identified with the innermost stable circular orbit). At other stages of the outburst cycle, the behaviour is more unusual, inconsistent with the canonical outburst evolution of black hole transients. In particular, during the hard rise, the apparent inner radius is smaller than in the soft state (and increasing), and the peak colour temperature is higher (and decreasing). This anomalous behaviour is found even when we model the spectra with self-consistent Comptonization models, which take into account the up-scattering of photons from the disk component into the power-law component. To explain both those anomalous trends at the same time, we suggest that the hardening factor for the inner disk emission was larger than the canonical value of ~1.7 at the beginning of the outburst. A more physical trend of radii and temperature evolution requires a hardening factor evolving from ~3.5 at the beginning of the hard state to ~1.7 in the hard intermediate state. This could be evidence that the inner disk was in the process of condensing from the hot, optically thin medium and had not yet reached a sufficiently high optical depth for its emission spectrum to be described by the standard optically-thick disk solution., Comment: 20 pages, 10 figures, 4 tables, accepted by ApJ

Abstract

The High Energy X-ray telescope (HE) on-board the Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (\textit{Insight}-HXMT) can serve as a wide Field of View (FOV) gamma-ray monitor with high time resolution ($\mu$s) and large effective area (up to thousands cm$^2$). We developed a pipeline to search for Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs), using the traditional signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) method for blind search and the coherent search method for targeted search. By taking into account the location and spectrum of the burst and the detector response, the targeted coherent search is more powerful to unveil weak and sub-threshold bursts, especially those in temporal coincidence with Gravitational Wave (GW) events. Based on the original method in literature, we further improved the coherent search to filter out false triggers caused by spikes in light curves, which are commonly seen in gamma-ray instruments (e.g. \textit{Fermi}/GBM, \textit{POLAR}). We show that our improved targeted coherent search method could eliminate almost all false triggers caused by spikes. Based on the first two years of \textit{Insight}-HXMT/HE data, our targeted search recovered 40 GRBs, which were detected by either \textit{Swift}/BAT or \textit{Fermi}/GBM but too weak to be found in our blind search. With this coherent search pipeline, the GRB detection sensitivity of \textit{Insight}-HXMT/HE is increased to about 1.5E-08 erg/cm$^2$ (200 keV$-$3 MeV). We also used this targeted coherent method to search \textit{Insight}-HXMT/HE data for electromagnetic (EM) counterparts of LIGO-Virgo GW events (including O2 and O3a runs). Abstract

Understanding the competition between superconductivity and other ordered states (such as antiferromagnetic or charge-density-wave (CDW) state) is a central issue in condensed matter physics. The recently discovered layered kagome metal AV3Sb5 (A = K, Rb, and Cs) provides us a new playground to study the interplay of superconductivity and CDW state by involving nontrivial topology of band structures. Here, we conduct high-pressure electrical transport and magnetic susceptibility measurements to study CsV3Sb5 with the highest Tc of 2.7 K in AV3Sb5 family. While the CDW transition is monotonically suppressed by pressure, superconductivity is enhanced with increasing pressure up to P1~0.7 GPa, then an unexpected suppression on superconductivity happens until pressure around 1.1 GPa, after that, Tc is enhanced with increasing pressure again. The CDW is completely suppressed at a critical pressure P2~2 GPa together with a maximum Tc of about 8 K. In contrast to a common dome-like behavior, the pressure-dependent Tc shows an unexpected double-peak behavior. The unusual suppression of Tc at P1 is concomitant with the rapidly damping of quantum oscillations, sudden enhancement of the residual resistivity and rapid decrease of magnetoresistance. Abstract

GRO J1008-57, as a Be/X-ray transient pulsar, is considered to have the highest magnetic field in known neutron star X-ray binary systems. Observational data of the X-ray outbursts in GRO J1008-57 from 2017 to 2020 were collected by the Insight-HXMT satellite. In this work, the spin period of the neutron star in GRO J1008-57 was determined to be about 93.28 seconds in August 2017, 93.22 seconds in February 2018, 93.25 seconds in June 2019 and 93.14 seconds in June 2020. GRO J1008-57 evolved in the spin-up process with a mean rate of $-(2.10\pm 0.05)\times$10$^{-4}$ s/d from 2009 -- 2018, and turned into a spin down process with a rate of $(6.7\pm 0.6)\times$10$^{-5}$ s/d from Feb 2018 to June 2019. During the type II outburst of 2020, GRO J1008-57 had the spin-up torque again. During the torque reversals, the pulse profiles and continuum X-ray spectra did not change significantly, and the cyclotron resonant scattering feature around 80 keV was only detected during the outbursts in 2017 and 2020. Based on the observed mean spin-up rate, we estimated the inner accretion disk radius in GRO J1008-57 (about 1 - 2 times of the Alfv\'{e}n radius) by comparing different accretion torque models of magnetic neutron stars. During the spin-down process, the magnetic torque should dominate over the matter accreting inflow torque, and we constrained the surface dipole magnetic field $B\geq 6\times 10^{12}$ G for the neutron star in GRO J1008-57, which is consistent with the magnetic field strength obtained by cyclotron line centroid energy., Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, and 3 tables, the Journal of High Energy Astrophysics in press

Abstract

In this paper, we presented a detailed timing analysis of a prominent outburst of 4U 0115+63 detected by \textit{Insight}-HXMT in 2017 August. The spin period of the neutron star was determined to be $3.61398\pm 0.00002$ s at MJD 57978. We measured the period variability and extract the orbital elements of the binary system. The angle of periastron evolved with a rate of $0.048\pm0.003$ $yr^{-1}$. The light curves are folded to sketch the pulse profiles in different energy ranges. A multi-peak structure in 1-10 keV is clearly illustrated. We introduced wavelet analysis into our data analysis procedures to study QPO signals and perform a detailed wavelet analysis in many different energy ranges. Through the wavelet spectra, we report the discovery of a QPO at the frequency $\sim 10$ mHz. In addition, the X-ray light curves showed multiple QPOs in the period of $\sim 16-32 $ s and $\sim 67- 200 $ s. We found that the $\sim100$ s QPO was significant in most of the observations and energies. There exist positive relations between X-ray luminosity and their Q-factors and S-factors, while the QPO periods have no correlation with X-ray luminosity. In wavelet phase maps, we found that the pulse phase of $\sim 67- 200 $ s QPO drifting frequently while the $\sim 16-32 $ s QPO scarcely drifting. The dissipation of oscillations from high energy to low energy was also observed. These features of QPOs in 4U 0115+63 provide new challenge to our understanding of their physical origins., Comment: 14 pages, 9 figures, and 6 tables. Abstract

A new $\alpha$-emitting isotope $^{214}$U, produced by fusion-evaporation reaction $^{182}$W($^{36}$Ar, 4n)$^{214}$U, was identified by employing the gas-filled recoil separator SHANS and recoil-$\alpha$ correlation technique. More precise $\alpha$-decay properties of even-even nuclei $^{216,218}$U were also measured in reactions of $^{40}$Ar, $^{40}$Ca with $^{180, 182, 184}$W targets. By combining the experimental data, improved $\alpha$-decay reduced widths $\delta^2$ for the even-even Po--Pu nuclei in the vicinity of magic neutron number $N=126$ were deduced. Their systematic trends are discussed in terms of $N_{p}N_{n}$ scheme in order to study the influence of proton-neutron interaction on $\alpha$ decay in this region of nuclei. It is strikingly found that the reduced widths of $^{214,216}$U are significantly enhanced by a factor of two as compared with the $N_{p}N_{n}$ systematics for the $84 \leq Z \leq 90$ and $N<126$ even-even nuclei. The abnormal enhancement is interpreted by the strong monopole interaction between the valence protons and neutrons occupying the $\pi 1f_{7/2}$ and $\nu 1f_{5/2}$ spin-orbit partner orbits, which is supported by a large-scale shell model calculation.

Then, with the valid data of 2078 students collected from the survey. A data analysis was performed using SPSS Statistics 26.0. Multiple linear regression models were adopted to analyze the factors affecting adolescent academic engagement and to determine whether MVPA, MSE, and SB play roles in it.Results: (1) The differences in academic engagement depended on the exercise adherence to the recommended amount of MVPA, MSE, and screen-based SB. (2) In terms of the three independent variables of total time, MSE (β = 0.206) and MVPA (β = 0.175) showed a significant positive correlation with academic engagement, while SB (β = − 0.155) was negatively correlated with academic engagement. (3) From the linear regression model of eight combination groups divided by the exercise adherence to the recommended amount of MVPA, MSE and SB, the group that met none of the recommendations (β = − 0.235) showed a significant negative effect on academic engagement, while the groups that met any two or all three of the recommendations demonstrated strong positive correlations with academic engagement (P < 0.001).Conclusion: Increasing adolescents’ muscle-strengthening exercise and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and reducing sedentary behavior can effectively promote academic engagement. Therefore, adolescents are suggested to reach the recommended amounts of physical activity, muscle-strengthening exercise, and sedentary behavior so as to improve academic engagement more effectively.Keywords: moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, muscle-strengthening exercise, academic engagement, sedentary behaviors

Screen time positively affects anxiety levels, where negative emotions have a mediating role and emotion regulation has a moderating role. In the future, we can control screen ++time, increase physical activities, reduce negative emotions, and improve the emotional regulation ability to relieve anxiety, so as to improve the mental health of academic college students, and expect to have a positive impact on future learning, life, and planning.Keywords: college students, sedentary behavior, anxiety, negative emotions, emotion regulation

Abstract

Based on Insight-HXMT data, we report on the pulse fraction evolution during the 2017-2018 outburst of the newly discovered first Galactic ultraluminous X-ray source (ULX) Swift J0243.6+6124. The pulse fractions of 19 observation pairs selected in the rising and fading phases with similar luminosity are investigated. The results show a general trend of the pulse fraction increasing with luminosity and energy at super-critical luminosity. However, the relative strength of the pulsation between each pair evolves strongly with luminosity. The pulse fraction in the rising phase is larger at luminosity below $7.71\times10^{38}$~erg~s$^{-1}$, but smaller at above. A transition luminosity is found to be energy independent. Such a phenomena is firstly confirmed by Insight-HXMT observations and we speculate it may have relation with the radiation pressure dominated accretion disk.

Abstract

We report on the Insight-HXMT observations of the new black hole X-ray binary MAXI J1820+070 during its 2018 outburst. Detailed spectral analysis via the continuum fitting method shows an evolution of the inferred spin during its high soft sate. Moreover, the hardness ratio, the non-thermal luminosity and the reflection fraction also undergo an evolution, exactly coincident to the period when the inferred spin transition takes place. The unphysical evolution of the spin is attributed to the evolution of the inner disc, which is caused by the collapse of a hot corona due to condensation mechanism or may be related to the deceleration of a jet-like corona. The studies of the inner disc radius and the relation between the disc luminosity and the inner disc radius suggest that, only at a particular epoch, did the inner edge of the disc reach the innermost stable circular orbit and the spin measurement is reliable. We then constrain the spin of MAXI J1820+070 to be a*=0.2^{+0.2}_{-0.3}. Such a slowly spinning black hole possessing a strong jet suggests that its jet activity is driven mainly by the accretion disc rather than by the black hole spin., Comment: 14 pages, 13 figures, 5 tables, accepted for publication in MNRAS
