This article presents a study on the relationship of education and political development in the U.S. Educational systems and processes have assumed a significant place in political science research. American political science has become aware of the educational dimension of politics. Sporadically, more rigorous empirical research on political socialization, one important aspect of the relationship between education and politics, began to appear in this country in the fifties. Several studies concerned with the role of education in political socialization as well as with other aspects of the education-politics relationship in the U.S. have appeared. Therefore, since development process are most adequately studied in comparative terms, we must go beyond the research done in one particular country and concern ourselves with research in as large a variety of political systems as possible.
