The benefits of bringing welfare recipients into the labor markets cannot be denied. The factors that can influence welfare recipients to start working are analyzed. One of the reasons the welfare recipients do not take up a job is lack of skill or pessimism related to their abilities. It is possible to bring these people into mainstream by on-the-job training. However, certain level of caution is required in this approach as over optimistic welfare recipients may fail in their jobs causing more pessimism. In this scenario, the effect of work on beliefs of welfare recipients is analyzed.
