Abstract Background Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) significantly impacts young and middle-aged adults, with steroid use implicated in many cases. Traditional treatments have limited efficacy, prompting a shift towards innovative approaches, such as stem cell therapy, offering less invasive regenerative solutions. Methods Using bibliometric analysis from 1997 to 2023, we identified 392 articles on stem cell therapy for ONFH from the Web of Science Core Collection and analysed them using VOSviewer and CiteSpace to identify key trends and research directions. Results From 1997 to 2023, stem cell therapy for ONFH research expanded significantly, with 392 articles evidencing global collaboration, particularly from China, the United States and South Korea. The field is characterised by 158 core authors across 26 clusters and contributions from 417 institutions in 104 research clusters, with Shanghai Jiao Tong University as a notable leader. This research is disseminated through 23 journal clusters, emphasising interdisciplinary work, with Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research among the most influential journals. Key findings include the identification of the most influential papers, highlighting advances, such as use of autologous mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and innovative delivery mechanisms. High-frequency keyword analysis further mapped the evolution of the field, from basic mechanisms to advanced therapies, underscoring a trend towards more targeted stem cell treatments for ONFH. Conclusion Stem cell therapy for ONFH has advanced significantly, showcasing a successful transition from basic research to clinical practice, particularly highlighted by developments in use of autologous MSCs and delivery methods. Future research will focus on refining therapies through exosome technology, targeted modulation of stress and inflammation and integration with surgical techniques, with the aim of tailored patient care and improved ONFH outcomes.

Abstract Steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (SONFH) is a debilitating condition caused by long-term corticosteroid use, leading to impaired blood flow and bone cell death. The disruption of cellular processes and promotion of apoptosis by endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) is implicated in the pathogenesis of SONFH. We identified ERS-associated genes in SONFH and investigated their potential as therapeutic targets. We analysed the GSE123568 GEO dataset to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) related to ERS in SONFH. We conducted Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses, identified hub genes by protein-protein interaction (PPI) analyses, and evaluated their functions by gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA). We constructed mRNA–miRNA networks, identified potential therapeutics, and assessed immune cell infiltration. We performed cross-validation using the GEO dataset GSE74089, qRT-PCR on clinical samples from patients with SONFH and controls, and a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis to assess the diagnostic performance of the hub genes. We identified 195 ERS-related genes in SONFH, which were primarily involved in oxidative stress, immune responses, and metabolic pathways. The PPI network suggested CXCL8, STAT3, IL1B, TLR4, PTGS2, TLR2, CASP1, CYBB, CAT, and HOMX1 to be key hub genes, which were shown by GSEA to be involved in biological pathways related to metabolism, immune modulation, and cellular integrity. We also identified 261 microRNAs (miRNAs) as well as drugs such as dibenziodolium and N-acetyl-L-cysteine that modulated inflammatory responses in SONFH. Twenty-two immune cell subtypes showed significant correlations, such as a positive correlation between activated mast cells and Tregs, and patients with SONFH had fewer dendritic cells than controls. The hub genes CYBB and TLR4 showed significant correlations with M1 macrophages and CD8 T cells, respectively. Cross-validation and qRT-PCR confirmed the upregulation of STAT3, IL1B, TLR2, and CASP1 in patients with SONFH, validating the bioinformatics findings. An ROC curve analysis confirmed the diagnostic potential of the hub genes. The top 10 hub genes show promise as ERS-related diagnostic biomarkers for SONFH. We discovered that 261 miRNAs, including hsa-miR-23, influence these genes and identified potential therapeutics such as dibenziodolium and simvastatin. Immune profiling indicated altered immune functions in SONFH, with significant correlations among immune cell types. Validation confirmed the upregulation of STAT3, IL1B, TLR2 and CASP1, which had diagnostic potential. The findings suggest potential diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets for SONFH.

Abstract Soil organic carbon (SOC) plays a vital role in maintaining or enhancing soil fertility and quality of paddy field, but there is still limited information about how SOC mineralization responds to different tillage managements under the double-cropping rice (Oryza sativa L.) system in southern of China. Therefore, this study was designed to explore the changes in SOC content, soil enzyme activities (invertase, cellulose and urease), SOC mineralization at 0–10 cm and 10–20 cm layers and its relationship with 7-years tillage management under the double-cropping rice system of southern China. The experiment included four tillage managements: rotary tillage with all residues removed as a control (RTO), conventional tillage with residue incorporation (CT), rotary tillage with residue incorporation (RT), and no-tillage with residue retention (NT). The results indicated that SOC and soil labile organic carbon contents at 0–10 cm and 10–20 cm layers in paddy field with CT and RT treatments were significantly higher than the RTO treatment. Compared to the RTO treatment, SOC mineralization and accumulation at 0–10 cm and 10–20 cm layers in paddy field with CT, RT and NT treatments were increased. SOC accumulation and potential mineralization at 0–10 cm layer with NT treatment were significantly higher than the CT, RT and RTO treatments. Soil mineralization constant at 10–20 cm layer with CT treatment was significantly higher than those of RT, NT and RTO treatments. This result indicated SOC mineralization rate and accumulation at 10–20 cm layer of CT, RT, NT and RTO treatments were lower than those of treatments at 0–10 cm layer. Compared to RTO treatment, soil invertase, cellulose and urease activities with CT and RT treatments were significantly increased. Compared to RTO treatment, soil invertase, cellulose and urease activities at 0–20 cm layer of CT treatment increased by 22.6%, 46.2% and 89.0%, respectively. There was significantly positive correlation between SOC accumulation and SOC content, soil invertase, cellulose, urease activities, but SOC accumulation was significantly negative correlated with soil pH, bulk density. Therefore, CT and RT treatments were beneficial managements to improve SOC content and SOC mineralization in the double-cropping rice field of southern China.

In Bandpass Sampling Fourier Transform Spectroscopy, a comprehensive method for evaluating signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) has not yet been established. This paper employs an energy conservation approach to analyze the relationship of SNR between interferogram and spectra in Bandpass Sampling Time-Modulated Fourier Transform Spectroscopy (BPS-FTS). It systematically presents models for the average SNR of the system interferogram and the average SNR of reconstructed spectra under different parameters. These models are compared with SNR models in traditional Fourier transform spectroscopy (FTS) and are mutually validated through theoretical modeling and simulation analysis. It provides a theoretical basis and simulation verification for the design and implementation of the system.

Improving the drought resistance of rice is of great significance for expanding the planting area and improving the stable yield of rice. In our previous work, we found that ROLLED AND ERECT LEAF1 (REL1) protein promoted enhanced tolerance to drought stress by eliminating reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels and triggering the abscisic acid (ABA) response. However, the mechanism through which REL1 regulates drought tolerance by removing ROS is unclear. In this study, we identified REL1 interacting protein 5 (RIP5) and found that it directly combines with REL1 in the chloroplast. We found that RIP5 was strongly expressed in ZH11 under drought-stress conditions, and that the rip5-ko mutants significantly improved the tolerance of rice plants to drought, whereas overexpression of RIP5 resulted in greater susceptibility to drought. Further investigation suggested that RIP5 negatively regulated drought tolerance in rice by decreasing the content of ascorbic acid (AsA), thereby reducing ROS clearance. RNA sequencing showed that the knockout of RIP5 caused differential gene expression that is chiefly associated with ascorbate and aldarate metabolism. Furthermore, multiple experimental results suggest that REL1 is involved in regulating drought tolerance by inhibiting RIP5. Collectively, our findings reveal the importance of the inhibition of RIP5 by REL1 in affecting the rice’s response to drought stress. This work not only explains the drought tolerance mechanism of rice, but will also help to improve the drought tolerance of rice.

Abstract Resolvin D1 (RvD1) has been shown to provide effective protection against ischemia–reperfusion injury in multiple vital organs such as the heart, brain, kidney. However, the clinical translational potential of systemic administration of RvD1 in the treatment of ischemia–reperfusion injury is greatly limited due to biological instability and lack of targeting ability. Combining the natural inflammatory response and reactive oxygen species (ROS) overproduction after reperfusion injury, we developed a platelet-bionic, ROS-responsive RvD1 delivery platform. The resulting formulation enables targeted delivery of RvD1 to the injury site by hijacking circulating chemotactic monocytes, while achieving locally controlled release. In a mouse model of myocardial ischemia repefusuin (MI/R) injury, intravenous injection of our formula resulted in the enrichment of RvD1 in the injured area, which in turn promotes clearance of dead cells, production of specialized proresolving mediators (SPMs), and angiogenesis during injury repair, effectively improving cardiac function. This delivery system integrates drug bio-protection, targeted delivery and controlled release, which endow it with great clinical translational value.

Summary: Sensitivity and linearity are two crucial indices to assess the sensing capability of pressure sensors; unfortunately, the two mutually exclusive parameters usually result in limited applications. Although a series of microengineering strategies including micropatterned, multilayered, and porous approach have been provided in detail, the conflict between the two parameters still continues. Here, we present an efficient strategy to resolve this contradiction via modulus difference-induced embedding deformation. Both the microscopic observation and finite element simulation results confirm the embedding deformation behavior ascribed to the elastic modulus difference between soft electrode and rigid microstructures. The iontronic pressure sensor with high sensitivity (35 kPa−1) and wide linear response range (0–250 kPa) is further fabricated and demonstrates the potential applications in monitoring of high-fidelity pulse waveforms and human motion. This work provides an alternative strategy to guide targeted design of all-around and comprehensive pressure sensor.

Human skin perceives external environmental stimulus by the synergies between the subcutaneous tactile corpuscles. Soft electronics with multiple sensing capabilities by mimicking the function of human skin are of significance in health monitoring and artificial sensation. The last decade has witnessed unprecedented development and convergence between multimodal tactile sensing devices and soft bioelectronics. Despite these advances, traditional flexible electronics achieve multimodal tactile sensing for pressure, strain, temperature, and humidity by integrating monomodal sensing devices together. This strategy results in high energy consumption, limited integration, and complex manufacturing process. Various multimodal sensors and crosstalk-free sensing mechanisms have been proposed to bridge the gap between natural sensory system and artificial perceptual system. In this review, we provide a comprehensive summary of tactile sensing mechanism, integration design principles, signal-decoupling strategies, and current applications for multimodal tactile perception. Finally, we highlight the current challenges and present the future perspectives to promote the development of multimodal tactile perception.

The variety of soil microbial biomass carbon (SMBC), soil microbial biomass nitrogen (SMBN) content, and the flux turnover rate of SMBC and SMBN for 0–10 cm and 10–20 cm layers in a paddy field in southern China with different tillage practices were studied. The tillage experiment included conventional tillage and crop residue returning (CT), rotary tillage and crop residue returning (RT), no–tillage and crop residue returning (NT), and rotary tillage with all crop residues removed from the paddy field as a control (RTO). The result showed that the SMBC and SMBN contents at 0–10 cm and 10–20 cm layers in the paddy field with CT, RT, and NT treatments were significantly increased. This result indicates that the flux turnover rate of SMBC and SMBN for 0–10 cm and 10–20 cm layers in the paddy field with CT treatment were increased by 65.49%, 39.61%, and 114.91%, 119.35%, compared with the RTO treatment, respectively. SMBC and SMBN contents and the flux turnover rate of SMBC and SMBN for the 0–10 cm layer were higher than that of the 10–20 cm layer in paddy fields under the same tillage condition. Therefore, applying rotary tillage or conventional tillage and crop residue returning produced beneficial management for increasing soil microbial biomass content and its turnover under a double–cropping rice system in southern China.

For traditional Fourier transform (FTS), its integral sampling usually meets the Spectral Modulation Transfer Function (SMTF) criterion. However, for bandpass-sampling Fourier transform spectroscopy (BPS-FTS), based on our analysis, the integral sampling condition derived from the Spectral Modulation Transfer Function (SMTF) is excessively stringent. In other words, the interval of the integral sampling time that fulfills the tolerance requirements for the reconstructed spectrum is very narrow. There are numerous integration sampling time intervals outside this range that still meet the tolerance requirements for the reconstructed spectrum. In this paper, through theoretical modeling, we propose a method based on average |SMTF| as the selection criterion for the integration sampling time. Through simulation analysis, it is evident that the intervals and range of the integral sampling time obtained via this method are more accurate, ensuring the tolerance requirements of the reconstructed spectrum. Under these intervals, when conducting integral sampling on the interferogram, the spectral deviation of the reconstructed spectrum is minimal, and the Spectral Correlation Mapper (SCM) is nearly equal to one. This indicates that compared with the SMTF criterion in traditional FTS, this method is more suitable for the characteristics of BPS-FTS. The analysis in this paper can provide theoretical and simulation support for the implementation of BPS-FTS.

Hydrogen, especially the “green hydrogen” based on water electrolysis, is of great importance to build a sustainable society due to its high-energy-density, zero-carbon-emission features, and wide-range applications. Today's water electrolysis is usually carried out in either low-temperature (700 °C) applications, e.g., solid oxide electrolyzer. However, the low-temperature devices usually suffer from high applied voltages (usually >1.5 V @0.01 A cm−2) and high cost; meanwhile, the high-temperature ones have an unsatisfied lifetime partially due to the incompatibility among components. Reasonably, an intermediate-temperature device, namely, proton ceramic cell (PCC), has been recently proposed. The widely-used air electrode for PCC is based on double O2-/e- conductor or composited O2-/e-−H+ conductor, limiting the accessible reaction region. Herein, we designed a single-phase La0.8Sr0.2Co1-xMnxO3-δ (LSCM) with triple H+/O2-/e- conductivity as the air electrode for PCCs. Specifically, the La0.8Sr0.2Co0.8Mn0.2O3-δ (LSCM8282) incorporates 5.8% proton carriers in molar fraction at 400 °C, indicating superior proton conducting ability. Impressively, a high current density of 1580 mA cm−2 for hydrogen production (water electrolysis) is achieved at 1.3 V and 650 °C, surpassing most low- and high-temperature devices reported so far. Meanwhile, such a PCC can also be operated under a reversible fuel cell mode, with a peak power density of 521 mW cm−2 at 650 °C. By correlating the electrochemical performances with the hydrated proton concentration of single-phase triple conducting air electrodes in this work and our previous work, a principle for rational design of high-performance PCCs is proposed.

BackgroundAn accurate assessment of current trends in cardiovascular risks could inform public health policy. This study aims to determine 20-year trends in the prevalence of elevated cardiovascular risk and its risk factors' control among US adults.MethodsIn this serial cross-sectional analysis of 23,594 adults, aged 40–79 years, without clinical atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2001 to 2020, we calculated the prevalence of elevated cardiovascular risk (10-year ASCVD risk ≥ 7.5%) for all participants and subgroups with their risk factors controlled for diabetes, hypertension, or dyslipidemia.ResultsThe age- and sex-adjusted prevalence of elevated cardiovascular risk slightly decreased from 41.5% (95% CI, 39.7–43.3%) in 2001–2004 to 38.6% (95% CI, 36.1–41.1%) in 2017–2020 (P for trend = 0.169) while the respective sex-adjusted prevalence significantly increased from 34.4% (95% CI, 32.8–36.0%) to 39.5% (95% CI, 37.0–42.0%; P for trend

Abstract Soil microbial community were usually reconsidered as a sensitive indicator in soil quality and soil environment change of paddy field. However, the effects of different tillage and crop residue incorporation managements on soil bacterial community under the double-cropping rice cropping system were still need to further investigated. Therefore, the impacts of different tillage and crop residue incorporation managements on soil bacterial community under the double-cropping rice cropping system in southern of China were studied by using phospholipid fatty acids (PLFAs) profile method in the present paper. The experiment included four different tillage treatments: rotary tillage without crop residue input as a control (RTO), no-tillage with crop residue retention (NT), rotary tillage with crop residue incorporation (RT), and conventional tillage with crop residue incorporation (CT). Compared with RTO treatment, grain yield of rice with NT, RT and CT treatments increased by 1.21%, 3.13% and 6.40%, respectively. This results showed that soil aC15:0, C16:0, iC17:0, C19:0c9, 10 fatty acids with CT and RT treatments were higher than that of RTO treatment, while soil C16:1ω6c and C18:1ω9t fatty acids with NT treatment were higher than that of RTO treatment, respectively. Soil G+ and G− bacteria PLFAs contents with CT treatment were higher than that of NT, RT and RTO treatments, while the value of soil G+/G− bacteria PLFAs with NT treatment were higher than that of CT, RT and RTO treatments. This results indicated that Richness and McIntosh indices with CT treatment were significantly higher than that of RTO treatment. Principal component analysis (PCA) results showed that the first and second principal components (PC1 and PC2) were explained 93.2% of total variance with all tillage treatments. Except C12:0, C14:0 2OH and C18:2ω6, all unsaturated and cyclopropyl PLFAs contents were belong to PC1. PC1 and PC2 were explained 88.4% of total variance with all tillage treatments. There had significantly positive correlation between soil Richness, Shannon indices and soil PLFAs, G+ bacteria, G− bacteria, fungi contents. As a result, it were benefit practices for increasing soil bacterial community structure in the double-cropping rice field of southern China by combined application of rotary, conventional tillage with crop residue incorporation managements.

Nudix hydrolases (NUDX) can hydrolyze a wide range of organic pyrophosphates and are widely distributed in various organisms. Previous studies have shown that NUDXs are extensively involved in biotic and abiotic stress responses in different plant species; however, the role of NUDXs in plant growth and development remains largely unknown. In the present study, we identified and characterized OsNUDX14 localized in the mitochondria in rice. Results showed that OsNUDX14 is constitutively expressed in various tissues and most strongly expressed in mature leaves. We used CRISPR/Cas9 introducing mutations that editing OsNUDX14 and its encoding product. OsNUDX14-Cas9 (nudx14) lines presented early flowering and a larger flag leaf angle during the reproductive stage. In addition, OsNUDX14 affected grain chalkiness in rice. Furthermore, transcript profile analysis indicated that OsNUDX14 is associated with lignin biosynthesis in rice. Six major haplotypes were identified by six OsNUDX14 missense mutations, including Hap_1 to Hap_6. Accessions having the Hap_5 allele were geographically located mainly in South and Southeast Asia with a low frequency in the Xian/indica subspecies. This study revealed that OsNUDX14 is associated with plant development and grain chalkiness, providing a potential opportunity to optimize plant architecture and quality for crop breeding.

The formation of leaf color largely depends on the components of pigment accumulation in plastids, which are involved in chloroplast development and division. Here, we isolated and characterized the rice albino leaf 4 (al4) mutant, which exhibited an albino phenotype and eventually died at the three-leaf stage. The chloroplasts in al4 mutant were severely damaged and unable to form intact thylakoid structure. Further analysis revealed that the candidate gene encodes 4-diphosphocytidyl-2-C-methyl-D-erythritol kinase (IspE), which participates in the methylerythritol phosphate (MEP) pathway of isoprenoid biosynthesis. We further demonstrated that the mutation at the exon-intron junction site cause alternative splicing factors fail to distinguish the origin of the GT-AG intron, leading to exon skipping and producing a truncated OsIspE in the al4 mutant. Notably, disruption of OsIspE led to the reduced expression of chloroplast-associated genes, including chloroplast biosynthetic and translation related genes and photosynthetic associated nuclear genes (PhANGs). In summary, these findings reveal that OsIspE plays a crucial role in chloroplast biogenesis and provides novel insights into the function of CMK during chloroplast development in rice.

Abstract Cellulose plays an important role in maintaining or improving soil carbon (C) cycling and soil fertility of paddy field. There had close relationship between functional cellulose genes (cbhI and GH48) with characterize of soil organic matter chemical components (fulvic acid and humic acid) and soil physical fractions. However, there is still limited information about how functional cellulose degradation response to long-term fertilizer management and their relative importance for C sequestration under the double-cropping rice paddy field in southern of China. Therefore, the objective of this study were investigated the effects of 34-years long-term fertilizer regime on community abundance of cbhI and GH48 genes in five soil particle-size fractions (> 2000 μm, 2000–200 μm, 200–50 μm, 50–2 μm and 2–0.1 μm) by using polarization magic angle spinning 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The field experiment was included four different fertilizer treatments: chemical fertilizer alone (MF), rice straw and chemical fertilizer (RF), 30% organic manure and 70% chemical fertilizer (OM), and without fertilizer input as a control (CK). The results showed that distribution of soil humus and cellulolytic microbial community abundance was significant increased under long-term application of crop residue and organic manure condition. And the FA, HA and HM C contents in > 2000 μm and 2000–50 μm fractions with MF, RF and OM treatments were significant higher than that of CK treatment. Meanwhile, the alkyl C and Oalkyl C groups of FA and HA in > 2000 μm fraction with MF, RF, OM and CK treatments were higher than that of the other fractions. There had higher AL% and lower ARO% of FA and HA in different particle-size fractions with MF, RF, OM and CK treatments. The results indicated that abundance of cbhI and GH48 genes in different particle-size fractions with RF and OM treatments were significant increased, compared with CK treatment. There had significant positive correlation between soil humus C components (FA and HA) with abundance of cbhI and GH48 genes, and the o-alkyl C and AL% of FA were positively correlated with abundance of cbhI and GH48 genes. As a result, the community abundance of cbhI and GH48 genes were significant increased under combined application of crop residue and organic manure with chemical fertilizer condition.

Abstract Background Plant height is an important architecture trait which is a fundamental yield-determining trait in crops. Variety with dwarf or semi-dwarf phenotype is a major objective in the breeding because dwarfing architecture can help to increase harvest index, increase planting density, enhance lodging resistance, and thus be suitable for mechanization harvest. Although some germplasm or genes associated with dwarfing plant type have been carried out. The molecular mechanisms underlying dwarfism in oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) are poorly understood, restricting the progress of breeding dwarf varieties in this species. Here, we report a new dwarf mutant Bndwarf2 from our B. napus germplasm. We studied its inheritance and mapped the dwarf locus BnDWARF2. Results The inheritance analysis showed that the dwarfism phenotype was controlled by one semi-dominant gene, which was mapped in an interval of 787.88 kb on the C04 chromosome of B. napus by Illumina Brassica 60 K Bead Chip Array. To fine-map BnDWARF2, 318 simple sequence repeat (SSR) primers were designed to uniformly cover the mapping interval. Among them, 15 polymorphic primers that narrowed down the BnDWARF2 locus to 34.62 kb were detected using a F2:3 family population with 889 individuals. Protein sequence analysis showed that only BnaC04.BIL1 (BnaC04g41660D) had two amino acid residues substitutions (Thr187Ser and Gln399His) between ZS11 and Bndwarf2, which encoding a GLYCOGEN SYNTHASE KINASE 3 (GSK3-like). The quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis showed that the BnaC04.BIL1 gene expressed in all tissues of oilseed rape. Subcellular localization experiment showed that BnaC04.BIL1 was localized in the nucleus in tobacco leaf cells. Genetic transformation experiments confirmed that the BnaC04.BIL1 is responsible for the plant dwarf phenotype in the Bndwarf2 mutants. Overexpression of BnaC04.BIL1 reduced plant height, but also resulted in compact plant architecture. Conclusions A dominant dwarfing gene, BnaC04.BIL1, encodes an GSK3-like that negatively regulates plant height, was mapped and isolated. Our identification of a distinct gene locus may help to improve lodging resistance in oilseed rape.

Objective To determine if the beneficial effects of transient desflurane application mitigates inflammation and decrease associated signaling induced by 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1, 2, 3, 6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) in mice. Methods Mice were induced to develop Parkinson’s disease (PD) by intraperitoneal injection with MPTP for 20 consecutive days, and validated mice were randomly allocated to four groups. Collected samples from euthanized mice were designated for the following analyses: 1) immunohistochemical staining for positive dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra and striatum, 2) immunofluorescence staining for ionized calcium binding adaptor molecule-1 (Iba1) and glial fibrillary acid protein (GFAP), and 3) western blotting for p38, p-p38, toll-like receptor 4, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α. Results The inhalation of desflurane for 1 hour ameliorated locomotory dysfunctions of PD mice by recovering the loss of Iba1- and GFAP-positive dopaminergic neurons, deactivating microglial cells and astrocytes, and decreasing the amounts of inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α). Conclusions These findings suggest that transient desflurane inhalation may provide some benefits for PD through ameliorating inflammation and enhancing locomotor activity.

Abstract Background Acromial fractures are rare and there is no consensus on fixation, but an increasing number of studies have reported using two screws to fix Ogawa type I acromial fractures. The objective of this study was to obtain the ideal length, diameter, insertion point, and angle of the screw using a novel 3D simulation. Methods The scapular CT data of 100 individuals were obtained to reconstruct 3D models. The transparency of the 3D model was then downgraded along the axial perspective (the view perpendicular to the cross section of the acromion axis) to find the maximum translucent area. Two virtual screws were placed at the anterior edge of the acromion until they penetrated the posterior cortical bon. The largest diameters and lengths of the screw were measured, and the direction and insertion point of the screw were observed. Results The mean maximum lengths of the medial and lateral screws were 43.33 ± 6.17 mm and 39.23 ± 6.01 mm, respectively. The mean maximum diameters of the medial and lateral screws were 4.71 ± 1.23 mm and 4.97 ± 1.07 mm, respectively. Differences in screw length, diameter, and insertion point between males and females were found. The differences in screw angle between sexes were not statistically significant. Conclusions Based on a 3D model test, we recommend the size, entry points, and angles of screws for Ogawa type I acromial fractures, providing valuable guidance for clinical work. More accurate screw parameters can be obtained preoperatively by establishing an individualized 3D model.

Soil extracellular enzyme activities play an important role in regulating the soil nitrogen (N) mineralization process in paddy fields. However, there is still a need to further study how N mineralization responds to different fertilizer management techniques and the soil extracellular enzyme activities for N mineralization in paddy fields. Therefore, the influence of different long-term (35 years) fertilizer regimes on soil N mineralization, hydrolysable N fractions—such as hydrolyzed unknown nitrogen (HUN), amino acid nitrogen (AAN), amino sugar nitrogen (ASN), ammonia nitrogen (AN), and total acid-hydrolyzed nitrogen (TAN)—and their extracellular enzyme activities (soil urease, L-glutaminase, β-glucosidase, arylamidase, and β-glucosaminidase) in a double-cropping rice field in southern China were investigated in this study. The field experiment included the following fertilizer regimes: rice straw and inorganic fertilizer (RF), 30% organic manure and 70% inorganic fertilizer (OM), inorganic fertilizer alone (MF), and no application of inorganic fertilizer as a control (CK). The results show that the soil ammonium N, amino sugar N, hydrolysable unidentified N, and amino acid N contents in the paddy field with RF treatment increased by 30.56%, 5.51%, and 62.74% compared with the CK treatment. The results show that the soil aerobic and anaerobic N mineralization rates in the paddy fields with OM and RF treatments increased by 22.92% and 18.27% compared with those with MF treatment. Moreover, soil extracellular enzyme activities under RF and OM treatments significantly increased, which indicated that the main substrate of microbial activity was effective. Correlation analysis indicated that the soil L-glutaminase activity, amino sugar N, amino acid N, and total acid-hydrolysable N contents were positively correlated with soil aerobic and anaerobic N mineralization rates in paddy fields. However, there was a negative correlation between the soil N mineralization rate and soil β-glucosaminidase activity in paddy fields. This finding shows that the yields of early rice and late rice under the RF and OM treatments were significantly higher than those under the MF and CK treatments. Compared with the MF treatment, the yields of double-cropping rice with RF and OM treatments increased by 9.84% and 11.37%, respectively. As a result, the application of straw or organic manure and inorganic fertilizer was effective for improving soil N mineralization, the soil acid-hydrolyzed N content, and extracellular enzyme activities in double-cropping rice fields.

Abstract Carbon (C) plays an important role in maintaining soil fertility and increasing soil microbial community, but there is still limited information about how source utilization characteristics respond to soil fertility changes under double-cropping rice (Oryza sativa L.) system in southern China paddy field. Therefore, the effects of different short-term (5-years) tillage management on characteristics of C utilization in rice rhizosphere and non-rhizosphere soils under double-cropping rice field in southern China were investigated by using 18O incorporation into DNA. Therefore, a field experiment were included four tillage treatments: conventional tillage with crop residue incorporation (CT), rotary tillage with crop residue incorporation (RT), no-tillage with crop residue retention (NT), rotary tillage with crop residue removed as control (RTO). The results showed that soil microbial biomass C content with CT, RT, NT treatments were increased by 29.71–47.27% and 3.77–21.30% in rhizosphere and non-rhizosphere soils, compared with RTO treatment, respectively. Compared with RTO treatment, soil microbial basal respiration and microbial growth rate with CT treatment were increased 30.56%, 30.94% and 11.91%, 12.34% in rhizosphere and non-rhizosphere soils, respectively. The soil microbial C utilization efficiency were promoted with NT treatment. Compared with RTO treatment, the metabolic capacity of soil microorganism to exogenous C source with CT, RT and NT treatments were increased. The largest type of exogenous C source was saccharides, followed by amino acid and polymers, and complex compounds was the smallest. The redundancy analysis results indicated that tillage treatments significantly changed the utilization characteristics of soil microorganism to exogenous C source. Compared with RTO treatment, the grain yield of early rice and late rice with CT treatment were increased by 409.5 kg ha−1 and 387.0 kg ha−1, respectively. Therefore, the CT and RT treatments could significantly increase soil microbial biomass C content, but the NT treatment promote microbial C utilization efficiency in the double-cropping paddy field of southern China.

The theory and associated selection methods of classical quantitative genetics are based on the multifactorial or polygene hypothesis. Major genes or quantitative trait loci (QTL) in modern quantitative genetics based on a “major gene plus polygenes” genetic system have been paid much attention in genetic studies. However, it remains unclear how the numerous minor genes act, although the polygene theory has sustained genetic improvement in plants and animals for more than a hundred years. In the present study, we identified a novel minor gene, BnSOT-like1 (BnaA09g53490D), which is a sulfotransferase (SOT) gene catalyzing the formation of the core glucosinolate (GSL) structure in Brassica napus. This gene has been occasionally found during investigations of plant height-related genes, but has not been identified by QTL mapping because of its small phenotypic effects on GSL content. The overexpression of BnSOT-like1 up-regulated the expression of aliphatic GSL-associated genes, leading to a high seed aliphatic GSL content, and the overexpression of the allelic gene Bnsot-like1 did not increase seed GSL content. These findings suggest that the SOT gene has a marked effect on a quantitative trait from a reverse genetics standpoint, but a minor effect on the quantitative trait in its natural biological state. Because of the redundancy of GSL biosynthetic genes in the allotetraploid species B. napus, mutations of a single functional gene in the pathway will not result in significant phenotypic changes, and that the genes in biosynthetic pathways such as BnSOT-like1 in our study have minor effects and may be called polygenes in contrast to the reported three regulatory genes (BnHAG1s) which strongly affect GSL content in B. napus. The present study has shed light on a minor gene for a quantitative trait.

This study was designed to explore changes in soil bulk density, soil organic carbon content, soil organic carbon stock and soil labile organic carbon fractions under 34 years fertilizer regime in the double-cropping rice system of southern China. The experiment including five fertilizer treatments: chemical fertilizer alone (MF), rice straw residue and chemical fertilizer (RF), 30% organic manure and 70% chemical fertilizer (LOM), 60% organic manure and 40% chemical fertilizer (HOM), and without fertilizer input as control (CK). The results showed that soil bulk density in the 0-20 cm soil layer with long-term fertilizer treatments were significantly decreased compared to CK treatment. The soil organic carbon content and stock with RF, LOM and HOM treatments were significantly higher than that of MF and CK treatments. These results confirmed by the soil carbon management index which were significantly increased with RF, LOM and HOM treatments. As a result, combined application of organic manure with chemical fertilizer is a benefit nutrient management for improving soil organic carbon content and stock, soil carbon management index in paddy field of southern China.

Abstract Background Locally recurrent rectal cancer (LRRC) after surgery or external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) is a serious challenge for which no standard treatment is defined. In the present study, we investigated the feasibility of computed tomography (CT)-guided radioactive 125I seed (RIS) implantation assisted with three-dimensional printing non-coplanar template (3D-PNCT) in LRRC patients who previously received surgery or EBRT. Methods Sixty-six patients with LRRC treated by CT-guided RIS implantation in our institute from December 2015 to May 2019 were included. The treatment procedure included: preoperative CT localization, planning design, the printing of 3D individualized template, CT-guided RIS implantation assisted with 3D-PNCT, and postoperative dose evaluation. Therapeutic outcomes including local control (LC) and overall survival (OS) were retrospectively evaluated, as well as side effects. Results All the patients had previously received surgery or EBRT. The median follow-up time was 12.2 (range, 2.5–35.9) months. The median radioactive activity of a single RIS was 0.6 (range, 0.43–0.72) mCi. The median number of RIS was 60, ranging from 10 to 175. The dosimetric parameters included D90 (140.7 ± 33.1) Gy, D100 (90.3 ± 138.6) Gy, and V100 (91.0 ± 13.3) %. Pain relief was achieved in 85.1% (40/47) of patients. Besides, 9.1% (6/66) of patients had severe side effects (≥grade 3), including perianal skin ulcer in 1 case, fistula, radiation proctitis, and intestinal obstruction each in two cases. Median OS time was 14.7 (95% confidence interval (CI): 13.0–16.3) months, and median LC time was 12.2 (95% CI: 9.1–15.2) months. Univariate analysis revealed that when D90 > 130 Gy or D100 > 55 Gy or V100 > 90%, the LC time was remarkably prolonged. However, none of the parameters significantly affected OS. Conclusions CT-guided RIS implantation assisted with 3D-PNCT is an effective and safe salvage treatment strategy for patients with LRRC after EBRT or surgery. D90, D100, and V100 can be used as prognostic predictors. Trial registration NCT03890926 .

This study aimed to determine short-term effects of soil tillage and crop residues on soil quality and grain yield of rice in a double-cropping paddy field of southern China. The experiment included four soil tillage treatments: conventional tillage with crop residues incorporation (CT), rotary tillage with crop residues incorporation (RT), no-tillage with crop residues retention (NT), and rotary tillage with crop residues removed as control (RTO). The results showed that the soil bulk density with RTO treatment were higher than with CT and RT treatments. And the soil EC, aggregate mean weight diameter in both wet and dry sieving with NT and RT treatments were higher than that of RTO treatment. CT and RT treatments had the best soil quality and produced the highest rice yield of average 2016–2018. Removing the crop residues gave the lowest yield and less favourable soil physical and chemical characteristics compared to the application of crop residues treatments. It was found that conventional tillage and rotary tillage with crop residues retention is a feasible management technology for farmers producing rice in the double-cropping paddy field of southern China, resulting in a better soil quality and higher yield than with the conventional farmer practice.

Deep learning (DL) and artificial intelligence (AI) are jointly applied to concrete piano teaching for children to comprehensively promote modern piano teaching and improve the overall teaching quality. First, the teaching environment and the functions of the intelligent piano are expounded. Then, a piano note onset detection method is proposed based on the convolution neural network (CNN). The network can analyze the time-frequency of the input piano music signal by transforming the original time-domain waveform of the piano music signal into the frequency distribution varying with time. Besides, it can detect the note onset at a stable state after 8 × 104 iterations. Moreover, an intelligent piano teaching method is designed to teach Jingle Bells for 40 preschool children aged 4–6 years. Finally, a questionnaire survey is performed to investigate the teaching situation, including the learning interest and learning effect of children and learning feedback from parents. The results show that 80% of children like smart music scores, 82% of children like intelligent piano lessons with games, and 84% of children can learn actively in the intelligent piano class. Besides, 85% of parents believe that their children are more interested in learning piano. In general, the intelligent piano teaching method effectively combines DL with AI to realize the overall optimization of piano performance. It is widely favored by preschool children and their parents and plays an important role in improving the interest of preschool children in piano learning.

The mouse is a useful preclinical species for evaluating disease etiology due to the availability of a wide variety of genetically modified strains and the ability to perform disease-modifying manipulations. In order to establish an atrial filtration (AF) model in our laboratory, we profiled several commonly used murine AF models. We initially evaluated a pharmacological model of acute carbachol (CCh) treatment plus atrial burst pacing in C57BL/6 mice. In an effort to observe micro-reentrant circuits indicative of authentic AF, we employed optical mapping imaging in isolated mouse hearts. While CCh reduced atrial refractoriness and increased atrial tachyarrhythmia vulnerability, the left atrial (LA) excitation patterns were rather regular without reentrant circuits or wavelets. Therefore, the atrial tachyarrhythmia resembled high frequency atrial flutter, not typical AF per se. We next examined both a chronic angiotensin II (Ang II) infusion model and the surgical model of transverse aortic constriction (TAC), which have both been reported to induce atrial and ventricular structural changes that serve as a substrates for micro-reentrant AF. Although we observed some extent of atrial remodeling such as fibrosis or enlarged LA diameter, burst pacing-induced atrial tachyarrhythmia vulnerability did not differ from control mice in either model. This again suggested that an AF-like pathophysiology is difficult to demonstrate in the mouse. To continue searching for a valid murine AF model, we studied mice with a cardiac-specific deficiency (KO) in liver kinase B1 (Cardiac-LKB1), which has been reported to exhibit spontaneous AF. Indeed, the electrocardiograms (ECG) of conscious Cardiac-LKB1 KO mice exhibited no P waves and had irregular RR intervals, which are characteristics of AF. Histological evaluation of Cardiac-LKB1 KO mice revealed dilated and fibrotic atria, again consistent with AF. However, atrial electrograms and optical mapping revealed that electrical activity was limited to the sino-atrial node area with no electrical conduction into the atrial myocardium beyond. Thus, Cardiac-LKB1 KO mice have severe atrial myopathy or atrial standstill, but not AF. In summary, the atrial tachyarrhythmias we observed in the four murine models were distinct from typical human AF, which often exhibits micro- or macro-reentrant atrial circuits. Our results suggest that the four murine AF models we examined may not reflect human AF well, and raise a cautionary note for use of those murine models to study AF.

We study single-photon ionization of aligned H $_2^+$ in a high-frequency low-intensity laser field. We focus on the cases where the laser frequency is near to or somewhat larger than the ionization potential of the target. The calculated photoelectron momentum distribution through numerical solution of time-dependent Schrödinger equation shows clear interference patterns. However, different from the cases of photon energy far larger than the ionization potential usually explored in experiments, the positions of interference maxima and minima for the present cases can not be explained by the interference of the electronic wave with the observed momentum between these two atomic centers of the molecule. By developing a theory model applicable for ionization of molecules in high-frequency laser field, we show that the Coulomb potential plays an important role in the momentum component of the emitting electronic wave near the nuclei, resulting in a remarkable shift of the interference pattern. A simple expression with Coulomb-modified momentum is obtained to predict the interference extrema, which gives suggestions for probing the structure and electron dynamics of the aligned molecule in single-photon ionization with lower photon energy.

Soil microbial biomass content is usually regarded as an early indicator of changes in soil quality and soil fertility in paddy fields. Soil microbial biomass turnover is mainly influenced by the application of different fertilizer management systems. However, there is still a need to further investigate the effects of different long-term fertilizer management systems on soil microbial biomass turnover in paddy fields under the double-cropping rice (Oryza sativa L.) system. Therefore, the effects of different long-term (36 years) fertilizer practices on soil microbial biomass carbon (SMBC) and soil microbial biomass nitrogen (SMBN) contents, and the flux turnover rates of SMBC and SMBN at the 0–10 cm and 10–20 cm layers in a double-cropping rice field in southern China were investigated in the present paper. The field experiment included four different fertilizer treatments: MF, RF, OM, and CK. The results showed that SMBC and SMBN contents at the 0–10 cm and 10–20 cm soil layers with RF and OM treatments were increased compared with the MF and CK treatments. Compared with the CK treatment, SMBC contents at the 0–10 cm and 10–20 cm soil layers with RF and OM treatments increased by 35.72% and 50.28%, and 32.29% and 42.77%, respectively. SMBN contents at the 0–10 cm and 10–20 cm soil layers with RF and OM treatments increased by 15.52% and 22.70%, and 16.32% and 21.49%, respectively. The fluxes of SMBC and SMBN at the 0–10 cm and 10–20 cm soil layers with RF and OM treatments were significantly higher than those of the CK treatment. This result indicated that the flux turnover rates of SMBC and SMBN at the 0–10 cm and 10–20 cm soil layers with the MF, RF, and OM treatments were significantly higher than those of the CK treatment. Compared with the CK treatment, the flux turnover rates of SMBC and SMBN at the 0–10 cm and 10–20 cm soil layers with OM treatment increased by 46.10% and 48.59%, and 73.39% and 116.67%, respectively. SMBC and SMBN contents, and the flux turnover rates of SMBC and SMBN at the 0–10 cm layer were higher than those of the 10–20 cm layer under the same fertilizer treatment condition. Early rice and later rice yields with RF and OM treatments were significantly higher than those of the MF and CK treatments. As a result, the combined application of crop residue and organic manure with inorganic fertilizer management is a beneficial practice for increasing soil nutrients and rice yield under the double-cropping rice system in southern Chin.

Fourier transform spectroscopy with bandpass sampling (BPS-FTS) increases the interferogram sampling step and reduces sampling frequency, thereby reducing system implementation difficulty. However, this technology has only been introduced in principle and lacks analysis of the actual system error. In this paper, we present a theoretical analysis of the optical system diffraction effect, derive the bandpass spectrum bandwidth and interferogram sampling step under the influence of the diffraction effect, and conduct modeling and a simulation analysis with and without the diffraction effect. Through simulation, we found that when the diffraction effect was considered, the relative deviation of the recovered spectrum from the input spectrum was 1.30%, and the spectral similarity was 0.9669. However, without considering the diffraction effect, the relative deviation of the recovered spectrum from the input spectrum was 6.23%, and the spectral similarity was only −0.0056. The simulation results demonstrate that the diffraction effect has a significant influence on BPS-FTS interferogram sampling and recovery spectra. The results of this study have reference significance for their technical realization of BPS-FTS.

Abstract Background The diagnosis of cow’s milk protein allergy(CMPA) may be easily misdiagnosed due to its lack of specific symptoms. Thus, experts have proposed the use of Cow’s milk-related symptom scores (CoMiSS) to predict CMPA. There has been no relevant report on the clinical application value of CoMiSS in Chinese children. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of CoMiSS in early identification of CMPA in Chinese infants. Methods We calculated CoMiSS for 38 infants with suspected CMPA diagnosed in the pediatric gastroenterologic clinic in our hospital. After 4 weeks of dietary elimination and symptomatic improvement, these infants returned to our hospital to undergo oral food challenge (OFC). The ROC curve was used to determine the sensitivity and specificity of CoMiSS and evaluate the effect of CoMiSS in early identification of CMPA in Chinese infants. We didn’t determine the CoMiSS of presumed healthy infants as control group. Results Of 38 infants who underwent OFC testing, the average CoMiSS of infants with positive OFC testing was 7.4 ± 2.3, while the average CoMiSS of infants with negative OFC testing was 4.1 ± 1.6, and there was a significant difference between two groups(F = 2.13, P

The potential nitrification activity (PNA), population size and composition of AOB and AOA communities in both rhizosphere and bulk soil from a long-term (32 year) fertiliser field experiment conducted during early rice and late rice seasons were investigated by using the shaken slurry method and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. The experiment begins in 1986, and including five treatments: without fertiliser input, chemical fertiliser alone, rice straw residue and chemical fertiliser, low organic manure rate and chemical fertiliser and high organic manure rate and chemical fertiliser. The results showed that the application of chemical fertiliser greatly enhanced PNA and AOB abundance, while application of rice straw residue and organic manure increased AOA abundance. Moreover, the results showed that the PNA and population sizes of AOB and AOA were higher in the rhizosphere than in the bulk soil. Cluster and redundancy analyses further indicated that the rhizosphere effect play a more important role in shaping AOA community structure than long-term fertilization. In summary, the results indicated that AOB rather than AOA functionally dominate ammonia oxidation in the double-cropping rice paddy soils, and that rhizosphere effect and fertiliser regime play different roles in the activity and community structures of AOB and AOA.

Inhalation of anesthetic agents have been observed to confer neuroprotection for decades. The present study was intended to determine whether desflurane (DES) prohibits mast cells (MCs) from degranulation induced by lateral ventricular injection (LVC) with Compound 48/80 (C48/80) in C57BL/6. Total 100 mice were recruited to this study, but only 88 male mice (20–24 weeks) were survived from the procedure, and randomized and allocated into four groups: (A) the saline group; (B) the C48/80 group; (C) the sodium cromoglycate (CRO + C48/80) group; (D) 7.5% DES preconditioning for 2 h + C48/80 lateral ventricular injection (DES + C48/80) group. The slices of mice brain thalamus were performed for toluidine blue staining (MCs) and immunochemistry (fluorescence of Iba1 and GFAP, respectively), and brain tissues were extracted to probe IL-6, TNF-α, NF-κB (p65), and TLR4 against GAPDH by western blotting. Our results demonstrated that administration of C48/80 provoked degranulation of mast cells at thalamus, increasing the fluorescence intensities of Iba1 and GFAP, and over-expressing IL-6, TNF-α, NF-κB(p65), and TLR4. However, pre-conditioning inhalation of DES prohibited MCs from degranulation, diminishing the fluorescent intensities of Iba1 and GFAP, decreasing expressed levels of IL-6, TNF-α, NF-κB(p65), as well as TLR4. It suggests inhalation DES could inhibit the neuroinflammation and deactivate glial and astrocytes via direct prohibiting degranulation of MCs at thalamus in the central nervous system (CNS).

PurposeTo evaluate the accuracy of individualized 3D-printing template-assisted I125 radioactive seed implantation (3D-PT assisted I125 RSI) for recurrent/metastatic head and neck cancer.Materials and MethodsFrom February 2017 to January 2020, clinical data of 41 patients (mean age, 58.5 ± 16.1 years; 28 males) with recurrent (48.8%)/metastatic (51.2%) head and neck cancer underwent individualized 3D-PT assisted I125 RSI under CT guidance in a single institute were retrospectively reviewed. Total 430 seed needles [mean, 10.5 (range 3–17) per patient] were inserted.ResultsAll seed needles were inserted manually in a single attempt with the technical success rate of 100% without major perioperative complications. The mean needle’s entrance deviation was 0.090 cm (95% Confidence Interval, 0.081–0.098). The mean intraoperative depth and angle of the needle were consistent with that of planned (6.23 ± 0.24 vs. 6.21 ± 0.24 cm, p = 0.903; 83.14 ± 3.64 vs. 83.09 ± 3.66 degrees, p = 0.985, respectively). The mean deviation between the needle’s planned and intraoperative depth and angle was 0.168 ± 0.024 cm and 1.56 ± 0.14 degrees, respectively. The postoperative dosimetry parameters, including D90, D100, V100, V150, V200, conformity index, external index, and homogeneity index, were all well-coordinated with planned dosimetry without significant difference (p = 0.515, 0.662, 0.958, 0.865, 0.872, 0.278, 0.456, and 0.989, respectively).ConclusionsWithin the limitation of this study, individualized 3D-PT assisted I125 RSI may be accurate in obtaining favorable postoperative dosimetry for patients with recurrent/metastatic head and neck cancer.Clinical Trial Registration[website], identifier [registration number].

Soil microorganism plays an important role in nitrogen (N) fixation process of paddy field, but the related information about how soil microorganism that drive N fixation process response to change of soil phy-chemical characteristics under the double-cropping rice (Oryza sativa L.) paddy field in southern of China is need to further study. In this work, novel heterostructural carbon-doped inorganic nanoassemblies (TiO2/C nanofibers, NFs) were designed and synthesized in site via easy-processing electrospinning technique. Three different carbon contents of TiO2/C NFs were obtained as 2 wt%, 4.5 wt% and 13.6 wt% by regulating precalcination conditions, respectively. P(VDF-HFP) was chosen to incorporate with different nanofibers as prepared due to its relatively high dielectric constant. A comparative study on dielectric energy storage performance of the TiO2/C NFs/P(VDF-HFP) nanocomposites has been systematically presented. The results reveal that the dielectric constant and the energy density are significantly enhanced for nanocomposites with appropriate content of doped carbon inside NFs. At relatively low doping content, the carbon nanoparticles could well disperse in TiO2/C NFs for forming numerous micro-capacitors, which is beneficial for enhancing interfacial polarization and suppressing loss. This work provides insights into the effect of the carbon-doped nanoassemblies for further improving energy storage capability of polymer nanocomposites for high-performance device applications. Microbial community functional diversity is a sensitive indicator of soil quality, soil management such as tillage and crop residue which can affect the microbial community functional diversity of paddy field. However, there is still limited information about the influence of different tillage and crop residue management on rhizosphere soil microbial community functional diversity in a double-cropping rice (Oryza sativa L.) field. Therefore, four tillage treatments were set up in paddy field, tillage treatments were included: conventional tillage with residue incorporation (CT), rotary tillage with residue incorporation (RT), no-tillage with residue retention (NT), and rotary tillage with residue removed as control (RTO). And the effects of CT, RT, NT, and RTO treatments on the average well color development (AWCD), genetic diversity indices and carbon source utilization of rhizosphere soil were studied in the present paper. The results showed that the values of AWCD with CT, RT and NT treatments were higher than that of RTO treatment. It was implied that application of crop residue management resulted in the variation of the carbon utilization efficiency of rhizosphere soil microbial communities. At maturity stages of early and late rice, the Richness indices, Shannon indices and McIntosh indices with CT treatment were significantly higher than that of RTO treatment, and with the order as CT>RT>NT>RTO. Principal component analysis (PCA) results indicated that there were significant differences in carbon substrate utilization patterns among different tillage treatments. Carbohydrates and amino acids were the main carbon resources utilized by rhizosphere soil microbes. Therefore, the combined application of tillage with crop residue management could significantly increase the rhizosphere soil microbial community functional diversity in the double-cropping paddy field of southern China.

Soil carbon (C) content plays an important role in maintaining or increasing soil quality and soil fertility. However, the impacts of different tillage and crop residue incorporation managements on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from paddy fields under the double-cropping rice (Oryza sativa L.) system in southern China still need further study. Therefore, a field experiment was conducted to determine the impacts of different short-term (5-years) tillage and crop residue incorporation managements on soil organic carbon (SOC) content, SOC stock, and GHG emissions from paddy fields under the double-cropping rice system in southern China. The field experiment included four tillage treatments: rotary tillage with all crop residues removed as a control (RTO), conventional tillage with crop residue incorporation (CT), rotary tillage with crop residue incorporation (RT), and no-tillage with crop residue retention (NT). These results indicated that SOC stock in paddy fields with CT, RT, and NT treatments increased by 4.64, 3.60, 3.50 Mg ha−1 and 4.68, 4.21, and 4.04 Mg ha−1 in 2019 and 2020, respectively, compared with RTO treatment. The results showed that early rice and late rice yield with CT treatment increased by 7.22% and 19.99% in 2019 and 6.19% and 6.40% in 2020, respectively, compared with RTO treatment. A two-year (2019–2020) investigation of GHG results indicated that methane emissions from paddy fields with NT treatment were decreased, but nitrous oxide emissions from paddy fields were increased. The lowest mean global warming potential (GWP) and per yield GWP carbon dioxide were found with NT treatment, compared to RT and CT treatments. Therefore, it was a beneficial practice for maintaining SOC stock and decreasing GHG mitigation under the double-cropping rice system in southern China by applying no-tillage with crop residue retention management.

Abstract Background For the recurrence of head and neck cancer after operation and radiotherapy, the local control of radioactive seed implantation is good, and it has a certain palliative effect. This study aims to investigate the acute and late side effects of a three-dimentional printing non co-planar template (3D–PNCT) for computed tomography (CT)-guided radioactive 125I seed (RIS) implantation in recurrent cancer of the head and neck. Methods Between January 2016 and December 2016, forty-two patients with local recurrent malignant tumors of the head and neck received 3D–PNCT-assisted RIS implantation. The prescribed dose was 110–160 Gy. Preoperative planning design, production of individual guide plates, RIS implantation, postoperative dose evaluation, and follow-up were completed for all patients. Side effects in the skin, mucous membranes, blood and spinal cord were evaluated. Results All patients underwent surgery successfully. Duration of follow-up was 4–14 (median, of 8.5) months. The activity of a single RIS was 0.34–0.7 (median, 0.6) mCi. The number of RIS was 10–126 (median, 34). The number of implantation needles was 4–31 (median, 11). The mean D2cc (dose to the most exposed 2-cc volume) and D0.1cc (dose to the most exposed 0.1-cc volume) of the skin were 24.9 (7.1–85.5) and 47.5 (9.4–167.2), respectively, whereas those of the spinal cord were 8.4 (4.5–33.3) and 14.2 (13.6–63.0), mucosa were 35.1 (4.2–82.8) and 87.0 (6.6–214.1), parotid glands were 16.2 (12.8–19.7) and 29.8 (26.1–33.4) and those of the trachea were 17.9 (2.5–45.9) and 32.7 (3.9–83.9), respectively. No case had an acute reaction of grade ≥ 3. Three cases had a grade-1 skin reaction. Blood toxicity did not occur, nor spinal-cord injury. Xerostomia was not aggravated than that of before brachytherapy. One case had a grade-3 nerve response. Conclusions 3D–PNCT-assisted RIS implantation can provide good accuracy for positioning. For local recurrent malignant tumor of head and neck, there were no obvious adverse reactions.

ABSTRACT Soil microbial biomass plays a significant role in soils, and it is often used as an early indicator of change in soil quality. Soil microbial biomass is affected by different fertilization management practices. Therefore, the impact of different long-term fertilization management practices on the soil organic carbon (SOC) content, soil microbial biomass carbon (SMBC), and soil microbial biomass nitrogen (SMBN), as well as the soil microbial quotient (SMQ) in the tilled layer (0.00-0.20 m) were studied in the present paper, together with grain yield, in a double-cropping rice (Oryza sativa L.) system. The experiment in NingXiang county of Hunan Province, China, begin in 1986, and the experiment included five fertilization treatments: without fertilizer input (CK), mineral fertilizer alone (MF), rice straw residues and mineral fertilizer (RF), 30 % organic matter and 70% mineral fertilizer (LOM), and 60% organic matter and 40 % mineral fertilizer (HOM). The results showed that there is no significant difference in effect on SOC, SMBC, and SMBN contents and on the SMQ in the paddy field with MF treatment compared with the CK treatment at the main growth stages of early and late rice. The SOC, SMBC, SMBN contents, and the SMQ in the paddy field were highest in the LOM and HOM treatments, followed by the RF treatment, at the main growth stages of early and late rice. The results indicated that grain yields of early and late rice with the LOM, HOM, and RF treatments were higher than the yields under the MF and CK treatments. As a result, combined application of organic matter or rice straw residues with mineral fertilizer is a practice available for increasing SOC and microbial biomass contents in double-cropping rice paddy soils.

This study aimed to generate real-world evidence among older patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). Results showed high attrition from first-line therapy (1L) to subsequent lines of therapy. Median time to next treatment or death was < 1 year and median overall survival was < 2 years. These results highlight a need to introduce more effective mCRPC therapies in first-line for older patients. Background: Prostate cancer (PC) is more likely to develop in men =65 years old than in those < 65 years old. This study aimed to generate real-world evidence on treatment patterns, clinical outcomes, health care resource utilization (HCRU), and costs among older patients with metastatic castration-resistant PC (mCRPC). Materials and Methods: A claims algorithm based on treatments expected for mCRPC was used to identify men =65 years old with mCRPC in the SEER-Medicare data between 2007 and 2019. The index date was defined as the date of the start of first-line therapy (1L). Treatment patterns and all-cause and PC-specific HCRU and costs were measured in the 12 months preindex period and the postindex follow-up period. Time to next treatment or death (TNTD) and overall survival (OS) were assessed in the follow-up period. Results: A total of 4758 patients met the eligibility cr iter ia and received 1L treatment. Among these 1L patients, 57.4% subsequently received second-line (2L) treatment; among patients receiving 2L treatment, 49.3% subsequently received third-line (3L) treatment. Abiraterone, enzalutamide, and docetaxel were most common regimens in 1L (41.9%, 22.0%, 22.0%, respectively), 2L (33.3%, 32.7%, 13.6%, respectively), and 3L (17.9%, 25.1%, 22.3%, respectively). On average, patients had 1.2 inpatient admissions, 1.1 emergency room visits, and 27.6 outpatient visits per year during follow-up. The mean total all-cause and PC-related costs during the follow-up period were $111,060 and $99,540 per-patient-per-year, respectively. Median TNTD was 9.3, 6.5, and 5.7 months for 1L, 2L, and 3L, respectively. Median OS from the start of 1L treatment for mCRPC was 21.5 months. Discussion: Among older patients with mCRPC, high attrition from 1L to subsequent lines of therapy was observed. Median TNTD was < 1 year and median OS was < 2 years. These results highlight a need to introduce more effective mCRPC therapies in 1L to improve clinical outcomes for older patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
