Abstract The selective incorporation of a deuterium atom into small molecules with high selectivity is highly valuable for medical and chemical research. Unfortunately, this remains challenging due to the complete deuteration caused by commonly used hydrogen isotope exchange strategies. We report the development of a photocatalytic selective monodeuteration protocol utilizing C–C bond as the unconventional functional handle. The synergistic combination of radical-mediated C–C bond scission and deuterium atom transfer processes enables the effective constructions of benzylic CDH moieties with high selectivity for monodeuteration. The combinational use of a bisphosphonium photocatalyst, thiol catalyst, and CH3OD deuteration agent provides operationally simple conditions for photocatalytic monodeuteration. Moreover, the photoinduced electron transfer process of the bisphosphonium photocatalyst is elucidated through a series of spectroscopy experiments, identifying a peculiar back electron transfer process that can be regulated by subsequent nucleophilic additions.

Abstract A new method was proposed to address fault diagnosis by applying the digital twin (DT) high-fidelity behavior and the deep learning (DL) data mining capabilities. Subsequently, the proposed fault distribution GAN (FDGAN) was built to map virtual and physical entities for the data from the established test platform. Finally, the MobileViG was employed to validate the model and diagnose faults. The accuracy of the proposed method with training samples of 600 and 800 were 88.4% and 99.5%, respectively. These accuracies surpass those of other methods based on CycleGAN (98.86%), CACGAN (94.92%), ACGAN (86.45%), ML1D-GAN (82.33%), and transfer learning (99.38%). Therefore, with the integration of global connectivity, an innovative network structure, and training methods, FDGAN can effectively address challenges such as network degradation, limited feature extraction in small windows, and insufficient model robustness.

Abstract Achieving near-zero-wear remains a major challenge in mechanical engineering and material science. Current ultra-low wear materials are typically developed based on the self-consumption strategy. Here, we demonstrate a new self-repairing approach to achieve near-zero-wear. We find that the WB4-βB/WC tribo-pair has a low wear rate of 10−8 mm3 N−1 m−1 in low vacuum conditions, under a maximum Hertzian contact stress of 2.23 GPa over 1 × 105 friction cycles. Additionally, we observe an abnormal wear phenomenon after 5 × 104 friction cycles, characterized by an increase in the dimensions of the tribo-pair. This near-zero-wear mechanism is attributed to the synergistic action of the super-hard WB4-βB substrate and the self-repairing tribo-oxide layer. This research provides a new approach for advancing wear-resistant materials and enhancing material longevity.

Abstract Due to their inherent lattice mismatch characteristics, 2D heterostructure interfaces are considered ideal for achieving stable and sustained ultralow friction (superlubricity). Despite extensive research, the current understanding of how interface adhesion affects interlayer friction remains limited. This study focused on graphene/MoS2 and graphene/PdSe2 heterostructure interfaces, where extremely low friction coefficients of ≈10−3 are observed. In contrast, the MoS2/PdSe2 heterostructure interfaces exhibit higher friction coefficients, ≈0.02, primarily due to significant interfacial interactions driven by interlayer charge transfer, which is closely related to the ionic nature of 2D material crystals. These findings indicate that the greater the difference in ionicity between the two 2D materials comprising the sliding interfaces is, the lower the interlayer friction, providing key criteria for designing ultralow friction pairs. Moreover, the experimental results demonstrate that interlayer friction in heterostructure systems is closely associated with the material thickness and interface adhesion strength. These experimental findings are supported by molecular dynamics simulations, further validating the observed friction behavior. By integrating experimental observations with simulation analyses, this study reveals the pivotal role of interface adhesion in regulating interlayer friction and offers new insights into understanding and optimizing the frictional performance of layered solid lubricants.

To explore the thermoformability of Mn–Cr–Ni–Co steel for ball mill liner, isothermal compression tests were performed on Mn–Cr–Ni–Co steel using a Gleeble-3800 thermal compressive testing machine. Flow stress curves at 900 °C–1200 °C and 0.01s−1∼10s−1 were obtained. Results show Mn–Cr–Ni–Co steel has obvious positive strain rate sensitivity, with peak stress decreasing with increasing temperature. A constitutive equation for Mn–Cr–Ni–Co steel was established using the Arrhenius model based on strain compensation, and fitted values were compared to experimental values. A hot working map for Mn–Cr–Ni–Co steel was established and analyzed. Hot working process parameters are: deformation temperature of 980∼1200 °C, strain rate of 0.04–1.78s−1, providing a basis for selecting the hot forging process of the ball mill liner. Forging and forming experiments of the ball mill liner were carried out using the optimal parameters of Mn–Cr–Ni–Co steel from the hot working map. The ball mill liner has good forming quality with a relatively uniform martensitic structure inside. Tensile and impact tests were performed on the ball mill liner. Compared to the mechanical properties of traditional cast Mn13 ball mill liners, results show the tensile strength increased by 159.75%, elongation by 18.8%, and impact capacity by about 16.7%.

Low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 2 (LRP2) is a multifunctional endocytic receptor expressed in epithelial cells. In mammals, it acts as an endocytic receptor that mediates the cellular uptake of cholesterol-containing apolipoproteins to maintain lipid homeostasis. However, little is known about the role of LRP2 in lipid homeostasis in insects. In the present study, we investigated the function of LRP2 in the migratory locust Locusta migratoria (LmLRP2). The mRNA of LmLRP2 is widely distributed in various tissues, including integument, wing pads, foregut, midgut, hindgut, Malpighian tubules and fat body, and the amounts of LmLRP2 transcripts decreased gradually in the early stages and then increased in the late stages before ecdysis during the nymphal developmental stage. Fluorescence immunohistochemistry revealed that the LmLRP2 protein is mainly located in cellular membranes of the midgut and hindgut. Using RNAi to silence LmLRP2 caused molting defects in nymphs (more than 60%), and the neutral lipid was found to accumulate in the midgut and surface of the integument, but not in the fat body, of dsLmLRP2-treated nymphs. The results of a lipidomics analysis showed that the main components of lipids (diglyceride and triglyceride) were significantly increased in the midgut, but decreased in the fat body and hemolymph. Furthermore, the content of total triglyceride was significantly increased in the midgut, but markedly decreased in the fat body and hemolymph in dsLmLRP2-injected nymphs. Our results indicate that LmLRP2 is located in the cellular membranes of midgut cells, and is required for lipid export from the midgut to the hemolymph and fat body in locusts.

Wings are an important flight organ of insects. Wing development is a complex process controlled by a series of genes. The flightless wing pad transforms into a mature wing with the function of migratory flight during the nymph-to-adult metamorphosis. However, the mechanism of wing morphogenesis in locusts is still unclear. This study analyzed the microstructures of the locust wing pads at pre-eclosion and the wings after eclosion and performed the comparative transcriptome analysis. RNA-seq identified 25,334 unigenes and 3,430 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) (1,907 up-regulated and 1,523 down-regulated). The DEGs mainly included cuticle development (LmACPs), chitin metabolism (LmIdgf4), lipid metabolism-related genes, cell adhesion (Integrin), zinc finger transcription factors (LmSalm, LmZF593 and LmZF521), and others. Functional analysis based on RNA interference and hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining showed that the three genes encoded zinc finger transcription factors are essential for forming wing cuticle and maintaining morphology in Locusta migratoria. Finally, the study found that the LmSalm regulates the expression of LmACPs in the wing pads at pre-eclosion, and LmZF593 and LmZF521 regulate the expression of LmIntegrin/LmIdgf4/LmHMT420 in the wings after eclosion. This study revealed that the molecular regulatory axis controls wing morphology in nymphal and adult stages of locusts, offering a theoretical basis for the study of wing development mechanisms in hemimetabolous insects.

Highlights A low-strength-centrifugation-assisted approach for rapid gelation of Ti3C2Tx MXene with a very low dispersion concentration into multifunctional 3D architectures is developed. On the basis of pH-induced surface termination changes, the MXene gels exhibit reconfigurable internal structures and tunable rheological, tribological, electrochemical, infrared-emissive and photothermal-conversion properties. By adopting a gel with optimized pH value, high lubrication, remarkable capacitance, long-term capacitance retention and high-precision screen- or extrusion-printing into high-resolution anticounterfeiting patterns can be achieved.

Abstract Developing functional additive resistant to space atomic oxygen (AO) irradiation through simple molecular design and chemical synthesis to enhance the lubricating performance of multialkylated cyclopentanes (MACs) oil is a significant challenge. Herein, sulfur-containing polyhedral oligomere silsesquioxane (POSS) were synthesize via a click-chemistry reaction of octavinyl polyhedral oligomeric with alkyl sulfide. The reduce-friction (RF), anti-wear (AW) properties and anti-AO irradiation of POSS-S-R as MACs base oil additives in atmospheric and simulated space environments were systematically investigated for the first time. Results demonstrate that POSS-S-R not only possesses outstanding anti-AO irradiation capacity but also effectively improves the RF and AW of MACs in atmospheric or simulated space surroundings. This improvement is due to the excellent anti-AO irradiation properties of the POSS structure itself and the high load-carrying ability of silicon-containing and sulfur-containing compounds generated by tribo-chemical reactions, which effectively separates the direct contact of the friction interface. We believe that this synthesized POSS-S-R is a promising additive for space lubricants.

Chlorophyll contributes to tea coloration, which is an important factor in tea quality. Chlorophyll metabolism is induced by light, but the transcriptional regulation responsible for light-induced chlorophyll metabolism is largely unknown in tea leaves. Here, we characterized a chlorophyllase1 gene CsCLH1 from young tea leaves and showed it is essential for chlorophyll metabolism, using transient overexpression and silencing in tea leaves and ectopic overexpression in Arabidopsis. CsCLH1 was significantly induced by high light. The DOF protein CsDOF3, an upstream direct regulator of CsCLH1, was also identified. Acting as a nuclear-localized transcriptional factor, CsDOF3 responded for light and repressed CsCLH1 transcription and increased chlorophyll content by directly binding to the AAAG cis-element in the CsCLH1 promoter. CsDOF3 was able to physically interact with the R2R3-MYB transcription factor CsMYB308 and interfere with transcriptional activity of CsCLH1. In addition, CsMYB308 binds to the CsCLH1 promoter to enhance CsCLH1 expression and decrease chlorophyll content. CsMYB308 and CsDOF3 act as an antagonistic complex to regulate CsCLH1 transcription and chlorophyll in young leaves. Collectively, the study adds to the understanding of the transcriptional regulation of chlorophyll in tea leaves in response to light and provides a basis for improving the appearance of tea.

Singlet fission (SF), as an effective way to break through the Shockley–Queisser limit, can dramatically improve energy conversion efficiency in solar cell areas. The formation, separation, and relaxation of triplet-pair excitons directly affect the triplet yield, especially triplet-pair separation; thus, how to enhance the triplet-pair separation rate becomes one of the key points to improve SF efficiency; the decay mechanism where the singlet state is converted into two triplet states is significant for the study of the SF mechanism. Herein, we employ ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy to study the singlet-fission process of nano-amorphous 6, 13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl)-Pentacene (TIPS-pentacene) films in a diamond anvil cell (DAC). A kinetics model related to the structural geometric details, as well as an evaluation of the pressure manipulation impacts, is demonstrated based on the experimental results. The results indicate that pressure manipulation enhanced the triplet-pair separation rates of SF-based materials according to their structural micro-environmental improvement when compressed in DAC, while the triplet-exciton transportation lifetime is prolonged. This work shows that pressure may effectively optimize the structural disorder of SF materials, which were found to improve triplet-pair separation efficiency and potentially offer an effective way to further improve SF efficiency.

Abstract Despite extensive efforts in designing and preparing switchable underwater adhesives, it is not easy to regulate the underwater adhesion strength locally and remotely. Here, we design and synthesize photoreversible copolymer of poly[dopamine methacrylamide‐co‐methoxyethyl‐acrylate‐co‐7‐(2‐methacryloyloxyethoxy)‐4‐methylcoumarin]. Due to the dynamic formation and breaking of chemical crosslinking networks within the smart adhesives, the material shows widely tunable adhesion strength from ∼150 to ∼450 kPa and long‐range reversible maneuverability under orthogonal 254 and 365 nm ultraviolet light stimulation via the coumarin dimerization and cycloreversion. Moreover, the adhesive exhibits good circulation performance and stability in an acid–base environment. It also demonstrated that the bolt can be coated with the smart adhesive material for on‐demand bonding. This design principle opens the door to the development of remotely controllable high‐performance smart underwater adhesives.

Abstract This study presents a nitrogen-doped microporous carbon nanospheres (N@MCNs) prepared by a facile polymerization–carbonization process using low-cost styrene. The N element in situ introduces polystyrene (PS) nanospheres via emulsion polymerization of styrene with cyanuric chloride as crosslinking agent, and then carbonization obtains N@MCNs. The as-prepared carbon nanospheres possess the complete spherical structure and adjustable nitrogen amount by controlling the relative proportion of tetrachloromethane and cyanuric chloride. The friction performance of N@MCNs as lubricating oil additives was surveyed utilizing the friction experiment of ball-disc structure. The results showed that N@MCNs exhibit superb reduction performance of friction and wear. When the addition of N@MCNs was 0.06 wt%, the friction coefficient of PAO-10 decreased from 0.188 to 0.105, and the wear volume reduced by 94.4%. The width and depth of wear marks of N@MCNs decreased by 49.2% and 94.5%, respectively. The carrying capacity of load was rocketed from 100 to 400 N concurrently. Through the analysis of the lubrication mechanism, the result manifested that the prepared N@MCNs enter clearance of the friction pair, transform the sliding friction into the mixed friction of sliding and rolling, and repair the contact surface through the repair effect. Furthermore, the tribochemical reaction between nanoparticles and friction pairs forms a protective film containing nitride and metal oxides, which can avert direct contact with the matrix and improve the tribological properties. This experiment showed that nitrogen-doped polystyrene-based carbon nanospheres prepared by in-situ doping are the promising materials for wear resistance and reducing friction. This preparing method can be ulteriorly expanded to multi-element co-permeable materials. Nitrogen and boron co-doped carbon nanospheres (B,N@MCNs) were prepared by mixed carbonization of N-enriched PS and boric acid, and exhibited high load carrying capacity and good tribological properties.

Abstract Wind power curve (WPC) is an important index of wind turbines, and it plays an important role in wind power prediction and condition monitoring of wind turbines. Motivated by model parameter estimation of logistic function in WPC modelling, aimed at the problem of selecting initial value of model parameter estimation and local optimum result, based on the combination of genetic algorithm and least square estimation method, a genetic least square estimation (GLSE) method of parameter estimation is proposed, and the global optimum estimation result can be obtained. Six evaluation indices including the root mean square error, the coefficient of determination R 2, the mean absolute error, the mean absolute percentage error, the improved Akaike information criterion and the Bayesian information criterion are used to select the optimal power curve model in the different candidate models, and avoid the model’s over-fitting. Finally, to predict the annual energy production and output power of wind turbines, a two-component Weibull mixture distribution wind speed model and five-parameter logistic function power curve model are applied in a wind farm of Jiangsu Province, China. The results show that the GLSE approach proposed in this paper is feasible and effective in WPC modelling and wind power prediction, which can improve the accuracy of model parameter estimation, and five-parameter logistic function can be preferred compared with high-order polynomial and four-parameter logistic function when the fitting accuracy is close.

Recent studies revealed that the greening in China has difficulty crossing the Hu-Line. However, the greening pattern and its driving factors remain unclear. Therefore, we explored NDVI spatio-temporal pattern and their key driving forces between southeastern and northwestern of the Hu-line from 2000 to 2020 using GDM (the geographical detector model) and trend analysis method. The following results were obtained: (1) Overall, NDVI showed a fluctuating upward trend in China over the study period, indicating greening. Although vegetation had improved significantly (48.11%) on the southeastern region of the Hu-line, it had significantly degraded (24.71%) on the northwestern region. The degradation of vegetation cover on unused and construction land was larger than the proportion of improvement. (2) GDM could identify the effect of single-factors on the NDVI variables on both side regions of the Hu-line. P (precipitation), POP (population density), and DEM (Digital Elevation), dominated NDVI’s spatial pattern in China. ET (evapotranspiration), ST (soil types) and POP had the strongest influence on the southeastern region, whereas P was the dominant factor on the northwestern region. In addition, POP, GDP (gross domestic product) and TEM (temperature) dominated the overall trend of NDVI. (3) Seven factors influenced and verged vegetation NDVI spatial distribution and change trends of vegetation were enhanced by their interaction. Overall, China is becoming greener. For various land-use types, natural factors (such as P and DEM) dominated vegetation NDVI pattern. Nevertheless, anthropogenic factors governed NDVI pattern of construction land. Anthropogenic factors mainly controlled NDVI tendency variations. The findings could effectively explain greening on both side regions of the Hu-line, and provide information for decision-making on vegetation restoration and ecological protection.

Untethered and self-transformable miniature robots are capable of performing reconfigurable deformation and on-demand locomotion, which aid the traversal toward various lumens, and bring revolutionary changes for targeted delivery in gastrointestinal (GI) tract. However, the viscous non-Newtonian liquid environment and plicae gastricae obstacles severely hamper high-precision actuation and payload delivery. Here, we developed a low-friction soft robot by assembly of densely arranged cone structures and grafting of hydrophobic monolayers. The magnetic orientation encoded robot can move in multiple modes, with a substantially reduced drag, terrain adaptability, and improved motion velocity across the non-Newtonian liquids. Notably, the robot stiffness can be reversibly controlled with magnetically induced hardening, enabling on-site scratching and destruction of antibiotic-ineradicable polymeric matrix in biofilms with a low-frequency magnetic field. Furthermore, the magnetocaloric effect can be utilized to eradicate the bacteria by magnetocaloric effect under high-frequency alternating field. To verify the potential applications inside the body, the clinical imaging-guided actuation platforms were developed for vision-based control and delivery of the robots. The developed low-friction robots and clinical imaging-guided actuation platforms show their high potential to perform bacterial infection therapy in various lumens inside the body.

Ocean thermal energy is acknowledged as one of the most promising ocean renewable energy sources in low latitude sea areas. In the ocean thermal energy conversion system, the turbine plays a significant role, and it is responsible for converting the working medium enthalpy into the shaft output power. The present study is focused on the performance analysis of a novel radial inflow turbine with an adjustable nozzle in the OTEC system in order to adapt to the changing operating conditions of the turbine, which vary with the change in seawater temperature. At the design point, the predicted overall isentropic efficiency is 86.5%, and the shaft output power is 15.3 kW, slightly higher than the expected 15 kW. Furthermore, a parametric study is performed, respectively, for the nozzle vane stagger angle and the nozzle-impeller radial clearance to explore the favorable geometric parameters for different conditions. The turbine’s overall efficiency increases slightly with deceasing nozzle-impeller radial clearance, and the variation of the nozzle vane stagger angle is much more influential on the turbine shaft power and overall efficiency. The optimum stagger angle point moves from 32° to 36° gradually with the increase in nozzle-impeller clearance. Finally, the feasibility of an adjustable nozzle for the turbine under off-design conditions was verified by combining the radial clearance and nozzle stagger angle.

Abstract Polymer-textile liner composites have potential applications in aerospace applications for reducing the abrasion damage of moving parts during operation owing to their self-lubrication, light weight, and high loading capacity. Herein, Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) are successfully loaded into the lumen of halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) to construct an HNTs-Au peasecod core-shell nanosystem to optimize the wear resistance of phenolic resin-based poly(p-phenylene benzobisoxazole) (PBO)/polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) textile composites. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) characterization reveals that the AuNPs are well-dispersed inside the HNTs, with an average diameter of 6–9 nm. The anti-wear performance of the HNTs and Au-reinforced PBO/PTFE composites is evaluated using a pin-on-disk friction tester at 100 MPa. Evidently, the addition of HNTs-Au induces a 27.9% decrease in the wear rate of the composites. Possible anti-wear mechanisms are proposed based on the analyzed results of the worn surface morphology and the cross-section of the tribofilm obtained by focused ion beam transmission electron microscopy.

Abstract MXene possesses great potential in enriching the functionalities of hydrogels due to its unique metallic conductivity, high aspect ratio, near-infrared light (NIR light) responsiveness, and wide tunability, however, the poor compatibility of MXene with hydrogels limits further applications. In this work, we report a uniformly dispersed MXene-functionalized poly-N-isopropylacrylamide (PNIPAM)/poly-2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid (PAMPS) double network hydrogel (M—DN hydrogel) that can achieve switchable friction regulation by using the NIR light. The dispersity of MXene in hydrogels was significantly improved by incorporating the chitosan (CS) polymer. This M—DN hydrogel showed much low coefficient of friction (COF) at 25 °C due to the presence of hydration layer on hydrogel surface. After illuminating with the NIR light, M—DN hydrogel with good photothermal effect rapidly raised the temperature to above the lower critical solution temperature (LCST), which led to an obvious increase of surface COF owing to the destruction of the hydration layer. In addition, M—DN friction control hydrogel showed good recyclability and controllability by tuning “on-off” of the NIR light. This work highlights the construction of functional MXene hydrogels for intelligent lubrication, which provides insight for interface sensing, controlled transmission, and flexible robotic arms.

Abstract Osteoarthritis (OA) treatment mainly relies on developing new drugs or nanocarriers, while little attention is paid to building novel remedial mode and improving drug loading efficiency. This work reports an integrated nanosystem that not only realizes visual drug loading and release, but also achieves enhanced lubrication and effective joint inflammation therapy based on fluorinated graphene quantum dots (FGQDs). Oxygen introduction promotes FGQDs outstanding water-stability for months, and layered nano-sized structure further guarantees excellent lubricating properties in biomimetic synovial fluid. The special design of chemistry and structure endows FGQDs robust fluorescence in a wide range of pH conditions. Also, the excitation spectrum of FGQDs well overlaps the absorption spectrum of drugs, which further constructs a new concept of internal filtering system to visually monitor drug loading by naked eyes. More importantly, extraordinary long-term lubrication performance is reported, which is the first experimental demonstration of concentration-dependent mutations of coefficient of friction (COF). Cell incubation experiments indicate that drug-loaded FGQDs have good biocompatibility, tracking property of cellular uptake and drug release, which show efficient anti-inflammation potential for H2O2-induced chondrocyte degradation by up-regulated cartilage anabolic genes. This study establishes a promising OA treatment strategy that enables to monitor drug loading and release, to enhance long-time lubricating property, and to show effective anti-inflammatory potential for cartilage protection.

Abstract Regulation of perovskite growth plays a critical role in the development of high-performance optoelectronic devices. However, judicious control of the grain growth for perovskite light emitting diodes is elusive due to its multiple requirements in terms of morphology, composition, and defect. Herein, we demonstrate a supramolecular dynamic coordination strategy to regulate perovskite crystallization. The combined use of crown ether and sodium trifluoroacetate can coordinate with A site and B site cations in ABX3 perovskite, respectively. The formation of supramolecular structure retard perovskite nucleation, while the transformation of supramolecular intermediate structure enables the release of components for slow perovskite growth. This judicious control enables a segmented growth, inducing the growth of insular nanocrystal consist of low-dimensional structure. Light emitting diode based on this perovskite film eventually brings a peak external quantum efficiency up to 23.9%, ranking among the highest efficiency achieved. The homogeneous nano-island structure also enables high-efficiency large area (1 cm2) device up to 21.6%, and a record high value of 13.6% for highly semi-transparent ones.

Human activities and global environmental changes have transformed terrestrial ecosystems, notably increasing vegetation greenness in China. However, this greening is less effective across the Hu Huanyong Line (Hu Line). This study analyzes dynamic changes and driving factors of nine vegetation net primary productivities (NPPs) in regions divided by the Hu Line using remote sensing data, trend analysis, and the Geodetector model. Findings reveal that from 2001 to 2022, 38.22% of regional vegetation NPP in China increased, especially in the Loess Plateau, Sichuan Basin, and Northeast Plains, while 2.39% decreased, primarily in the southeastern region and southern Tibet. Grasslands contributed 39.71% to NPP north of the Hu Line, and cultivated vegetation contributed 50.58% south. The driving explanatory power of factors on vegetation NPP on the north side of the Hu Line is generally greater than that on the south side. Natural factors primarily drive NPP changes, with human activities having less impact. Combined factors, particularly climate and elevation, significantly enhance the driving explanatory power (q, 0–1). The joint effects of elevation and precipitation on grassland NPP dynamics (q = 0.602) are notable. GDP’s influence on broadleaf forests north of the Hu Line (q = 0.404) is significant. Grasslands respond strongly to land use changes and population density, with a combined effect of q = 0.535. Shrubs, alpine vegetation, and meadows show minimal response to individual factors (q < 0.2). These findings offer insights for devising ecological protection measures tailored to local conditions.

The mechanical properties of frozen fissured rock masses are crucial considerations for engineering in frozen earth. However, there has been little research on the mechanical properties of frozen fissured sandstone, including its strength, deformation, and geometric parameters. In this study, sandstone samples with three open en echelon fissures were observed using high-speed photography and acoustic emissions during uniaxial compression tests. The aim was to investigate sandstone’s strength, deformability, and failure process in order to elucidate the effects of freezing on its mechanical properties. In the frozen-saturated and dried states, the uniaxial compression strength (UCS) initially decreases and then increases with an increase in fissure inclination angle. Conversely, the UCS of samples in the saturated state continuously increases. The UCS follows a decreasing trend, as follows: frozen-saturated state > dried state > saturated state. The initial crack angle decreases as the fissure inclination increases in all states, irrespective of temperature and moisture conditions. However, the initial crack stress and time show an increasing trend. The uniaxial compression strength (UCS) of frozen fissured sandstone is influenced by four mechanisms: (1) ice provides support to the rock under compression, (2) ice fills microcracks, (3) unfrozen water films act as a cementing agent under tension or shearing loads, and (4) frost damage leads to softening of the rock.

A new method based on a digital twin is proposed for fault diagnosis, in order to compensate for the shortcomings of the existing methods for fault diagnosis modeling, including the single fault type, low similarity, and poor visual effect of state monitoring. First, a fault diagnosis test platform is established to analyze faults under constant and variable speed conditions. Then, the obtained data are integrated into the Unity3D platform to realize online diagnosis and updated with real-time working status data. Finally, an industrial test of the digital twin model is conducted, allowing for its comparison with other advanced methods in order to verify its accuracy and application feasibility. It was found that the accuracy of the proposed method for the entire reducer was 99.5%, higher than that of other methods based on individual components (e.g., 93.5% for bearings, 96.3% for gear shafts, and 92.6% for shells).

Abstract The development of aqueous zinc‐ion capacitors (ZICs) is an effective approach to improve the safety and environmental friendliness of energy storage devices. In this paper, TiC/CNTs core‐shell array structures (TCT) were synthesized on titanium substrate through in‐situ simple chemical vapor deposition and carbon reduction and used as self‐supporting cathodes for aqueous ZICs. As expected, as‐prepared TCT electrode exhibited excellent electrochemical performance in aqueous electrolytes, demonstrating a high specific capacitance of 275.13 F g−1 at a current density of 1.0 A g−1 and maintaining 90.5 % of its initial capacity after 10000 charge‐discharge cycles. The assembled Zn//TCT ZIC displays excellent rate capability, delivering an excellent specific capacitance of 298.2 F g−1 at 0.5 A g−1 and 193.5 F g−1 at a high current density of 10 A g−1. Zn//TCT device can provide an ultra‐high energy density of 24.8 Wh kg−1 at a power of 6984.1 W kg−1. DFT calculations further demonstrate that a large number of electrons are transferred at the TiC/CNT interface and stable TIC−C bonds can be formed. This work provides a new strategy for rationally designing transition metal carbide electrodes and constructing ZICs with high energy and power densities.

[Objective] The soil and water conservation effect mechanism of the two core elements (slope and vegetation) in a slope-to-terrace project were systematically analyzed to provide specific methods for multi-index mechanism research, to supplement and improve the ecological effect theory of water conservation projects, and to provide theoretical guidance for the practice of ecological civilization construction. [Methods] Slope and vegetation factors were comprehensively considered, and a variety of mathematical models were used to deeply analyze their water conservation effect mechanisms. [Results] ① Based on a linear model, the linear component decomposition of the total soil and water conservation effect of the five indicators in the full text under the same spatiotemporal conditions was realized. Furthermore, based on the precise calculation of the relative contribution rate of each component, the real source of the soil and water conservation effect of the slope-to-terrace project was revealed for the first time in a theoretical sense. ② Based on multiple regression analysis, the optimal mathematical model was selected from a large number of alternative models, and the specific influencing factors and mechanism of the soil and water conservation effect of the above components were profoundly revealed. ③ Based on structural equation modeling (SEM), the rationality of the specific theoretical model including two latent variables (physical factor and chemical factor) reflecting the soil and water conservation effect of the five indicators in the full text was verified. By SEM group analysis, the preset models under the two slope conditions were fitted at the same time, clearly and intuitively showing the internal relationship between the factors and the differences in the mechanisms of the soil and water conservation effect under different slope conditions. ④ Based on principle component analysis, a comprehensive factor containing 80.8% of the information of five original variables was constructed, and the evaluation index was changed from five dimensions to one dimension, so as to realize the overall comprehensive quantitative evaluation of soil and water conservation effects. [Conclusion] Based on advanced data analysis methods, deep integration of research conclusions on the mechanism of the multi-factor soil and water conservation effect can be achieved, which deepens people’s understanding of its specific mechanism. It can also provide a methodological reference for the research of multi-index mechanisms, help to build professional mathematical models with higher predictive accuracy, and improve the efficiency of soil and water conservation practice.

Abstract Tribochemistry can be defined as a field dealing with the chemical reactions occurring in the friction zone, capable of catalyzing mechanical and physico-chemical changes in the friction contact area, facilitating the formation of tribo-films, which is also an efficient approach to fabricate novel innovative materials. In this paper, we report the successful synthesis of the silicon oil (SO)-functionalized covalent organic frameworks (COFs) prepared via the tribochemical method when subjected to the reciprocating friction; during the friction process, the rich aldehyde-terminated COFs can bond with amino SO via the Schiff base reaction between aldehyde group and amino group to obtain the desired functionalized COFs (SO@COF-LZU1). The tribochemical reaction progress was tracked through in-situ monitoring of the friction coefficient and the operating conditions during the entire friction process. Noticeably, the friction coefficient continued to decrease until it finally stabilized as the reaction progressed, which revealed the formation of a protective tribo-film. Herein, an approximate tribochemical model was presented, wherein the reaction mechanism was investigated and analyzed by employing structural analysis techniques like magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Furthermore, the tribochemical-induced SO@COF-LZU1 exhibited remarkable tribological performance with a low friction coefficient of 0.1 and 95.5% reduction in wear volume when used as additives of 500SN base oil. The prime focus of our research was on the preparation and functionalization of COF materials via tribochemical reactions, unraveling a new avenue for the rational design and preparation of functional materials.

Abstract Lubricants are often contaminated by water in different ways. Water-polluted lubricants extremely accelerate wear corrosion, leading to the deterioration of lubricity performance. Recently, multiphase media superwettability has been developed to endow one surface with compatible functions, such as on-demand separation of oily wastewater. However, realizing the robustness of the dual superlyophobic surface to solve water-caused lubricant deterioration and water contamination as needed remains challenges. Herein, a robust dual superlyophobic membrane is presented to realize on-demand separation for various lubricant—water emulsions. Compared to pure lubricants, the purified lubricants have equivalent tribology performance, which are much better than that of water-polluted lubricants. The as-prepared membrane maintains dual superlyophobicity, high-efficient for water or lubricant purification, and excellent tribology performance of the purified lubricant, even after immersion in hot liquids for 24 h, multicycle separation, and sandpaper abrasion for 50 cycles. Water-polluted lubricant extremely accelerates wear corrosion to promote catalytic dehydrogenation of lubricants, generating too much harmful carbon-based debris. This work shows great guiding significance for recovering the tribology performance of water-polluted lubricants and purifying water by the dual superlyophobic membrane.

Abstract Introduction Diabetic neuropathy is the most prevalent complication of diabetes mellitus. Although the precise etiology of this neurological disorder has yet to be defined, elevated blood glucose promotes anerobic glycolysis; this produces excess advanced glycation end‐products, many of which have a pyrrole structure. Here, we test the hypothesis that protein pyrrole adducts are associated with elevated glucose indices and some clinical features of diabetic diffuse neuropathies. Method We investigated the levels of plasma pyrrole adducts and adjusted urinary pyrrole adducts in a group of elderly persons (n = 516, age 60–79) residing in the District of Luohu, Shenzhen, China between 2017 and 2018. Symptoms of distal symmetric polyneuropathy (DSPN) and resting heart rate, a measure of autonomic nervous system function, were collected from participants (n = 258) with elevated glucose indices. Result Protein pyrrole adducts showed a strong correlation with glucose indices before and after adjustment for age and estimated glomerular filtration rates. Stratified analysis showed that the medians and interquartile values of pyrrole adducts grew as glucose indices of the subgroups increased. Participants with symptoms of DSPN and sinus tachycardia presented elevated levels of plasma pyrrole adducts. Conclusion This study provides a novel link between glucose indices and the etiology of diabetic diffuse neuropathies.

Abstract Special wettability fibrous materials have received a lot of attention because of their good connectivity, mechanical flexibility, large specific surface area, and ease of shape manipulation. Their outstanding performance paves the way toward efficient oil/water separation in a variety of environments and for separation requirements. This paper discusses the distinct advantages, challenges, and future research directions of various substrates for fibrous materials, such as nonwoven natural biomass fibers, fabrics, electrospinning fibers, metallic fibers, and inorganic nonmetallic fibers. The special wettability fibrous filter materials and fibrous adsorbents are summarized based on the different separation methods. The principles of preparation of various special wettabilities are introduced, and the unique advantages of fibrous adsorbents are emphasized. The preparation strategy of fibrous filter materials is discussed, as well as some representative work and research progress. The benefits, drawbacks, and research directions in terms of various materials are examined. This article emphasizes the pollution resistance of fibrous filter materials and the elasticity of fibrous adsorbents. Finally, the prospects in terms of the problems, challenges, and future development of special wettability fibrous materials used in oil/water separation are discussed.

BackgroundPatients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) have reduced seroconversion rates and lower binding antibody (Ab) and neutralizing antibody (NAb) titers than healthy individuals following Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) mRNA vaccination. Here, we dissected vaccine-mediated humoral and cellular responses to understand the mechanisms underlying CLL-induced immune dysfunction.Methods and findingsWe performed a prospective observational study in SARS-CoV-2 infection-naïve CLL patients (n = 95) and healthy controls (n = 30) who were vaccinated between December 2020 and June 2021. Sixty-one CLL patients and 27 healthy controls received 2 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech BNT162b2 vaccine, while 34 CLL patients and 3 healthy controls received 2 doses of the Moderna mRNA-1273 vaccine. The median time to analysis was 38 days (IQR, 27 to 83) for CLL patients and 36 days (IQR, 28 to 57) for healthy controls. Testing plasma samples for SARS-CoV-2 anti-spike and receptor-binding domain Abs by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), we found that all healthy controls seroconverted to both antigens, while CLL patients had lower response rates (68% and 54%) as well as lower median titers (23-fold and 30-fold; both p < 0.001). Similarly, NAb responses against the then prevalent D614G and Delta SARS-CoV-2 variants were detected in 97% and 93% of controls, respectively, but in only 42% and 38% of CLL patients, who also exhibited >23-fold and >17-fold lower median NAb titers (both p < 0.001). Interestingly, 26% of CLL patients failed to develop NAbs but had high-titer binding Abs that preferentially reacted with the S2 subunit of the SARS-CoV-2 spike. Since these patients were also seropositive for endemic human coronaviruses (HCoVs), these responses likely reflect cross-reactive HCoV Abs rather than vaccine-induced de novo responses. CLL disease status, advanced Rai stage (III-IV), elevated serum beta-2 microglobulin levels (β2m >2.4 mg/L), prior therapy, anti-CD20 immunotherapy (ConclusionsCLL pathogenesis is characterized by a progressive loss of adaptive immune functions, including in most treatment-naïve patients, with preexisting memory being preserved longer than the capacity to mount responses to new antigens. In addition, higher NAb titers and response rates identify mRNA-1273 as a superior vaccine for CLL patients.

Abstract Synovial fluid is made up of various biomacromolecules, including hyaluronic acid, aggrecans, lubricins, and phosphatidylcholine lipid, which are assembled onto the surface of articular cartilage in a gel state. Among them, brush-like biomacromolecules or assemblies have a vital effect on human joint lubrication. Inspired by this, the combination of brush-like molecular structures and gel-like assembly may be an efficient approach for the synthesis of biomimetic lubricating matters. Learning from the lubrication system of human joints, poly(2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine) (PMPC) brushes grafted poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-acrylic acid) (poly(NIPAAm-co-AA)) microgels, abbreviated as MBs-g-MGs, were synthesized as one kind of biomimetic lubricating additives. It is worth noting that this bionic strategy considered both molecular structure and assembled form, which enabled this hairy microgel to achieve low friction in aqueous medium. Meanwhile, the effective lubrication was still achieved when using MBs-g-MGs at high temperature, indicating that this microgel maintains a good lubricating effect over a wide range of temperature. In addition, this kind of microgel possessed good biocompatibility, which laid the foundation for potential biomedical applications. Looking beyond, these biomimetic microgels may provide an effective lubricating effect for water-based sliding interfaces, especially in biomedical systems.

Abstract The issues regarding energy dissipation and component damage caused by the interface friction between a friction pair attract enormous attention to friction reduction. The key-enabling technique to realize friction reduction is the use of lubricants. The lubricants smooth the contact interfaces, achieving an ultralow friction contact, which is called superslippery or superlubricity. At present, superslippery and superlubricity are two isolated research topics. There is a lack of unified definition on superslippery and superlubricity from the viewpoint of tribology. Herein, this review aims at exploring the differences and relations between superslippery and superlubricity from their origin and application scenarios. Meanwhile, the challenges for developing superslippery surface and superlubricity surface are discussed. In addition, perspectives on the interactive development of these two surfaces are presented. We hope that our discussion can provide guidance for designing superslippery or superlubricity surfaces by using varies drag-reduction technologies.

Abstract Triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) based on triboelectrification has attracted wide attention due to its effective utilization of green energy sources such as marine energy. However, researches about liquid-liquid triboelectrification are still scanty as solid—liquid triboelectrification has been widely studied. Herein, this work focuses on the hydrophobic/slippery substrate—water interfacial triboelectrification based on the solid friction materials of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) nanoparticles. The hydrophobic/slippery substrate—water interfacial triboelectrification are studied by assembling PTFE coated Al sheets and perfluoropolyether (PFPE) infused PTFE coated Al sheets (formed the slippery lubricant-infused surfaces (SLIPSs)) as the friction electrode, and water as liquid friction materials, respectively. The results show that the hydrophobic TENG output performances improved as the PTFE nanoparticles cumulating, and the SLIPSs TENG output performances increased with the thinner PFPE thickness. Both the triboelectrification behavior of hydrophobic/SLIPSs TENG assembled in this work are dominated by the electron transfer. Thanks to the introduction of SLIPSs, the SLIPSs TENG exhibits superior stability and durability than the hydrophobic TENG. The investigation of hydrophobic/slippery substrate—water interfacial triboelectrification contributes to optimize the TENG performances, and expands the application in harsh environments including low temperature and high humidity on the ocean.

Abstract With the decrease in fresh water resources, fog collection has become a promising way to obtain fresh water. This paper presents an efficient fog collector that combines wettability and spokes geometry. Water droplets move along a fixed route on the mist collector and can easily overcome the pinning effect at the end of the structure to detach from the surface and then be collected. Its fog collecting efficiency can be 1.82 times that of a planar zinc sheet, which provides a new idea for the design of subsequent fog collectors.

Plasmodium malariae is a cause of malaria in humans and related species have been identified in non-human primates. Here, the authors use genomic analyses to establish that human P. malariae arose from a host switch of an ape parasite whilst a species infecting New World monkeys can be traced to a reverse zoonosis.

As a class of highly dynamic organelles, lipid droplets (LDs) are involved in numerous physiological functions, and the changes in polarity of LDs are closely related to a variety of diseases. In this work, we developed two polarity-sensitive fluorescent probes (CC-CH and CC-Cl) based on curcumin analogs. CC-CH and CC-Cl with a donor–acceptor–donor (D–A–D) structure exhibited the property of intramolecular charge transfer (ICT); thus, their fluorescence emissions were significantly attenuated with increasing ambient polarity. Cell experiments indicated that CC-CH and CC-Cl showed excellent photostability, a low cytotoxicity, and a superior targeting ability regarding LDs. After treatment with oleic acid (OA) and methyl-β-cyclodextrin (M-β-CD), the polarity changes of LDs in living cells could be visualized by using CC-CH and CC-Cl. In addition, CC-CH and CC-Cl could monitor polarity changes of LDs in different pathological processes, including inflammatory responses, nutrient deprivation, and H2O2-induced oxidative stress. Therefore, CC-CH and CC-Cl are promising potential fluorescent probes for tracking intracellular LD polarity changes.

In this prospective cohort study, authors follow 328 households in Germany with at least one confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection and find that children are more likely to seroconvert without symptoms and have higher specific antibody levels that persist longer than in adults.

ABSTRACT HIV-1 and its SIV precursors share a broadly neutralizing antibody (bNAb) epitope in variable loop 2 (V2) at the envelope glycoprotein (Env) trimer apex. Here, we tested the immunogenicity of germ line-targeting versions of a chimpanzee SIV (SIVcpz) Env in human V2-apex bNAb heavy-chain precursor-expressing knock-in mice and as chimeric simian-chimpanzee immunodeficiency viruses (SCIVs) in rhesus macaques (RMs). Trimer immunization of knock-in mice induced V2-directed NAbs, indicating activation of V2-apex bNAb precursor-expressing mouse B cells. SCIV infection of RMs elicited high-titer viremia, potent autologous tier 2 neutralizing antibodies, and rapid sequence escape in the canonical V2-apex epitope. Six of seven animals also developed low-titer heterologous plasma breadth that mapped to the V2-apex. Antibody cloning from two of these animals identified multiple expanded lineages with long heavy chain third complementarity determining regions that cross-neutralized as many as 7 of 19 primary HIV-1 strains, but with low potency. Negative stain electron microscopy (NSEM) of members of the two most cross-reactive lineages confirmed V2 targeting but identified an angle of approach distinct from prototypical V2-apex bNAbs, with antibody binding either requiring or inducing an occluded-open trimer. Probing with conformation-sensitive, nonneutralizing antibodies revealed that SCIV-expressed, but not wild-type SIVcpz Envs, as well as a subset of primary HIV-1 Envs, preferentially adopted a more open trimeric state. These results reveal the existence of a cryptic V2 epitope that is exposed in occluded-open SIVcpz and HIV-1 Env trimers and elicits cross-neutralizing responses of limited breadth and potency. IMPORTANCE An effective HIV-1 vaccination strategy will need to stimulate rare precursor B cells of multiple bNAb lineages and affinity mature them along desired pathways. Here, we searched for V2-apex germ line-targeting Envs among a large set of diverse primate lentiviruses and identified minimally modified versions of one chimpanzee SIV Env that bound several human V2-apex bNAb precursors and stimulated one of these in a V2-apex bNAb precursor-expressing knock-in mouse. We also generated chimeric simian-chimpanzee immunodeficiency viruses and showed that they elicit low-titer V2-directed heterologous plasma breadth in six of seven infected rhesus macaques. Characterization of this antibody response identified a new class of weakly cross-reactive neutralizing antibodies that target the V2-apex, but only in occluded-open Env trimers. The existence of this cryptic epitope, which in some Env backgrounds is immunodominant, needs to be considered in immunogen design.

Abstract In recent decades, the development of biomimetic superhydrophobic surface structures has allowed several properties of superhydrophobic materials to be increasingly developed. This review addresses mainly three aspects. First, two kinds of structures with superhydrophobic properties: binary structures and unitary structures, are analyzed and compared. The binary structure, which includes micro‐ and nanostructures, is responsible for the development of superhydrophobicity in most natural creatures and artificial materials. And hierarchical binary structures, which combine micro‐ and nanoscale structures, actually perform better at superhydrophobic. Second, various properties of superhydrophobic materials achieved through binary structures, including self‐cleaning, antireflection, drag‐reduction, and mechanically robust and durable superhydrophobic surfaces are summarized. Each structure possesses both superiority and vulnerability. The combination of various structures can help develop adaptable and practical materials. Finally, the combinations of different properties in superhydrophobic via using a binary structure are enumerated. Materials with various properties can adapt to different working environments.

Recent advancements in two-dimensional materials have shown huge potential for optoelectronic applications. It is challenging to achieve highly effective and sensitive broadband photodetection based on MoS2 devices. Defect engineering, such as introducing vacancies, can narrow the bandgap and boost the separation of photogenerated carriers by defect states but leads to a slow response speed. Herein, we propose a nickel nanoparticle-induced gateless photogating effect with a unique energy band structure to enable the application of defect engineering and achieve high optoelectronic performance. The device based on Ni nanoparticle-decorated MoS2 with S vacancies exhibited high responsivities of 106.21 and 1.38 A W−1 and detectivities of 1.9 × 1012 and 8.9 × 109 Jones under 532 and 980 nm illumination (visible to near infrared), respectively, with highly accelerated response speed. This strategy provides new insight into optimizing defect engineering to design high-performance optoelectronic devices capable of broadband photodetection.

Sustained wear damages on the sliding surfaces of alloys are generally the culprit responsible for the failure of various mechanical systems. Inspired by high-entropy effects, here we deliberately deploy nanohierarchical architecture with composition undulation in a Ni50(AlNbTiV)50 complex concentrated alloy, which yields ultralow wear rate within the order of 10−7 to 10−6 mm3/Nm between room temperature and 800 °C. Such remarkable wear resistance heretofore represents one of the highest wear resistance reported for the bulk alloys or composites, and originates from the multi-type adaptive friction interface protection governed by intrinsically nano-coupled grains and nanoprecipitates. This cooperative heterostructure releases gradient frictional stress in stages upon wear at room temperature through the coexistence of multiple deformation pathways while activating a dense nanocrystalline glaze layer upon wear at 800 °C to minimize adhesive and oxidative wear. Our work uncovers a practical avenue for tailoring wear properties with multicomponent heterostructures over a wide temperature range.

Abstract Notch is important to vessel homeostasis. We investigated the mechanistic role of caveolin‐1 (Cav‐1) in mediating the effects of alcohol (Ethanol/EtOH) on the γ‐secretase proteolytic activity necessary for Notch signaling in vascular cells. Human coronary artery endothelial cells (HCAEC) were treated with EtOH (0–50 mM), Notch ligand delta‐like ligand 4 (Dll4), and the γ‐secretase inhibitor DAPT. EtOH stimulated Notch signaling in HCAEC as evidenced by increased Notch receptor (N1, N4) and target gene (hrt2, hrt3) mRNA levels with the most robust response achieved at 25 mM EtOH. Ethanol (25 mM) stimulated γ‐secretase proteolytic activity, to the same extent as Dll4, in HCAEC membranes. Ethanol inhibited Cav‐1 mRNA and protein levels in HCAEC. Caveolin‐1 negatively regulated γ‐secretase activity in HCAEC as Cav‐1 knockdown stimulated it, while Cav‐1 overexpression inhibited it. Moreover, Cav‐1 overexpression blocked the stimulatory effect of EtOH on γ‐secretase activity in HCAEC. Although EtOH also inhibited Cav‐1 expression in human coronary artery smooth muscle cells (HCASMC), EtOH inhibited γ‐secretase activity in HCASMC in contrast to its effect in HCAEC. The inhibitory effect of EtOH on γ‐secretase in HCASMC was mimicked by Cav‐1 knockdown and prevented by Cav‐1 overexpression, suggesting that in these cells Cav‐1 positively regulates γ‐secretase activity. In conclusion, EtOH differentially regulates γ‐secretase activity in arterial EC and SMC, being stimulatory and inhibitory, respectively. These effects are both mediated by caveolin‐1 inhibition which itself has opposite effects on γ‐secretase in the two cell types. This mechanism may underlie, in part, the effects of moderate drinking on atherosclerosis.

Ground fissures are widely developed in the Ethiopian Rift Valley, posing a major threat to the construction of the proposed Modjo−Hawassa (MH) Highway. The development characteristics, distribution, and communication law of ground fissures along the highway are studied using the comprehensive investigation method and technology. On this basis, the deformation mechanism and evolution of ground fissures are analyzed, which can provide geological support for the prevention and control of highway cracks in the area where ground fissures are developed.

Not all persons recovering from severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection develop SARS-CoV-2–specific antibodies. We show that nonseroconversion is associated with younger age and higher reverse transcription PCR cycle threshold values and identify SARS-CoV-2 viral loads in the nasopharynx as a major correlate of the systemic antibody response.

Abstract Based on wind speed, direction and power data, an assessment method of wind energy potential using finite mixture statistical distributions is proposed. Considering the correlation existing and the effect between wind speed and direction, the angular-linear modeling approach is adopted to construct the joint probability density function of wind speed and direction. For modeling the distribution of wind power density and estimating model parameters of null or low wind speed and multimodal wind speed data, based on expectation–maximization algorithm, a two-component three-parameter Weibull mixture distribution is chosen as wind speed model, and a von Mises mixture distribution with nine components and six components are selected as the models of wind direction and the correlation circular variable between wind speed and direction, respectively. A comprehensive technique of model selection, which includes Akaike information criterion, Bayesian information criterion, the coefficient of determination R 2 and root mean squared error, is used to select the optimal model in all candidate models. The proposed method is applied to averaged 10-min field monitoring wind data and compared with the other estimation methods and judged by the values of R 2 and root mean squared error, histogram plot and wind rose diagram. The results show that the proposed method is effective and the area under study is not suitable for wide wind turbine applications, and the estimated wind energy potential would be inaccuracy without considering the influence of wind direction.
