The anterior pituitary gland of animals secretes growth hormone (GH) to bind to the growth hormone receptor (GHR) on the liver cell membrane through the blood circulation, thereby promoting the downstream gene insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF1) expression, which is the canonical GH–GHR–IGF1 signaling pathway. Therefore, the amount of GHR and the integrity of its structure will affect animal growth and development. In the previous study, we found that the mouse GHR gene can transcribe a circular transcript named circGHR. Our group cloned the full-length of the mouse circGHR and analyzed its spatiotemporal expression profile. In this study, we further predicted the open reading frame of circGHR with bioinformatics, subsequently constructed a Flag-tagged protein vector and preliminarily verified its coding potential with western blot. Additionally, we found that circGHR could inhibit the proliferation of NCTC469 cells and has a tendency to inhibit cell apoptosis, while for C2C12 cells, it showed a tendency to inhibit cell proliferation and promote its differentiation. Overall, these results suggested that the mouse circGHR had the potential to encode proteins and affect cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis.

Reliability of Google Scholar (GS), Scopus, and Web of Science (WoS) is examined using publications and citations of 186 scholars in 14 U.S. advertising and public relations (ADPR) programs. Career duration is controlled, and an integrated impact (II) index is proposed as a practical solution. Results suggest there are trade-offs between the uncertainty of GS’s search parameters for more inclusive coverage and the curated collections of Scopus and WoS that might undercount some influential authors or works. To further demonstrate the discipline’s value, we must pay more attention to rigor and accuracy of methods that will lead to improved outcomes.

Background The characteristics of cytokine/chemokine (CK) profiles across different courses of chronic hepatitis B virus infection and the effects of antiviral therapies on cytokine profiles remain unclear. Methods This report provides evidence from 427 patients with chronic HBV infection. The Luminex multiple cytokine detection technology was used to detect CK profiles. The predictive power of CKs across different courses of chronic HBV infection was assessed using univariate analyses and with receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Results Compared to chronic HBV carriers (CHC), expression levels of IL-21, IL-23, IL-33 and CXCL10 increased while IFN-γ did not change significantly in chronic hepatitis B (CHB). IL-8 increased in those with liver cirrhosis (LC). Whereas, myeloid-related markers decreased dramatically in those with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The predictive results suggest that combining IL-6, IL-8, CXCL9 and CXCL11 into a nomogram could generate an accurate HCC risk based on LC status. In addition, the Spearman correlation coefficient suggested that CKs negatively correlate with serological and virological indicators, although they did positively correlate with one another. Antiviral treatments are capable of recovering normal liver functions and significantly reducing the viral load, however, they seem to have a limited effect in changing CKs, especially specific antiviral factors. Conclusions Variations in CKs and in virological markers might be used to determined distinct immune statuses. They might also highlight different levels of effectiveness and the limitations of antiviral treatments. This next step would to break new ground in the optimization of current anti-HBV treatment programs although this requires further research.

In crystalline materials, electron-phonon coupling (EPC) is a ubiquitous many-body interaction that drives conventional Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer superconductivity. Recently, in a new kagome metal $\rm{CsV_3Sb_5}$, superconductivity that possibly intertwines with time-reversal and spatial symmetry-breaking orders is observed. Density functional theory calculations predicted weak EPC strength,$\lambda$, supporting an unconventional pairing mechanism in $\rm{CsV_3Sb_5}$. However, experimental determination of $\lambda$ is still missing, hindering a microscopic understanding of the intertwined ground state of $\rm{CsV_3Sb_5}$. Here, using 7-eV laser-based angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and Eliashberg function analysis, we determine an intermediate $\lambda$=0.45~0.6 at T=6 K for both Sb 5p and V 3d electronic bands, which can support a conventional superconducting transition temperature on the same magnitude of experimental value in $\rm{CsV_3Sb_5}$. Remarkably, the EPC on the V 3d-band enhances to $\lambda$~0.75 as the superconducting transition temperature elevated to 4.4 K in $\rm{Cs(V_{0.93}Nb_{0.07})_3Sb_5}$. Objective: This long-term retrospective study explored the cause of increasing urinary calculi in Wuwei, China, from 1995 to 2016.Methods: Joinpoint v10.0, SPSS v22.0, and Excel 2019 were adopted to extract and analyze the medical records of patients with urolithiasis from 12 hospitals in Wuwei city. ArcGIS v10.8 was employed to establish a geographical distribution map and spatial and spatiotemporal analyses were applied to detect epidemic clusters using SaTScan v9.6.Results: Among the 5 497 patients with urolithiasis (mean age 43.07 ± 15.95 years), the majority were male (3 843, 69.9%), resulting in a sex ratio of 2.32:1. The incidence of urolithiasis in males and females showed an overall upward trend, with an annual percentage change (APC) of 15.1% (95% confidence interval (CI): 12.3%–18.1%) and 9.4% (95% CI: 16.4%–22.5%), respectively. From 1995 to 2016, the temporal and spatial distribution of urolithiasis showed an increasing trend in overall incidence and area, and we identified four clusters that allowed for the development and dynamic monitoring of urolithiasis in Wuwei. With the implementation of the new Rural Cooperative Medical Care System (NRCMS), improved insurance reimbursement and coverage for urolithiasis should help reduce the disease burden.Conclusions: In this study, the incidence of urolithiasis showed an upward trend between 1995 and 2016. Regular disease screening and early diagnosis for high-risk populations should be strengthened, which will help improve the prevention and treatment of urolithiasis. This study should provide a reference for local governments to initiate policies for the prevention and treatment of urolithiasis.

Trifluoroethanol and difluoroethanol units are important motifs in bioactive molecules, but the methods to direct incorporate these units are limited. Herein, we report two organosilicon reagents for the transfer of trifluoroethanol and difluoroethanol units into molecules. Through intramolecular C-Si bond activation by alkoxyl radicals, these reagents were applied in allylation, alkylation and alkenylation reactions, enabling efficient synthesis of various tri(di)fluoromethyl group substituted alcohols. The broad applicability and general utility of the approach are highlighted by late-stage introduction of these fluoroalkyl groups to complex molecules, and the synthesis of antitumor agent Z and its difluoromethyl analog Z′., Methods for direct incorporation of tri- and di-fluoroethanol units in molecules are relatively limited. ObjectiveTo determine the characteristics and spatiotemporal distribution of major gastrointestinal (GI) neoplasms in inpatients from 1995 to 2016 in Wuwei city, northwestern China.MethodData from all paper and electronic medical records entered between 1995 and 2016 at 12 major public hospitals in Wuwei city were retrospectively collected. Patients with GI neoplasms were identified and classified according to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-10. Trends in the incidence of major GI neoplasms were expressed as an annual percentage change (APC), and the Z test was used to assess the time fluctuation trends. Age-standardized incidence rates (ASIRs) were also calculated and the corresponding APC was estimated by the Joinpoint software for long-term trend analysis. Thematic maps of annual incidence at the township level were produced.ResultsAmong the 19,137 new inpatients identified with GI neoplasms in Wuwei, gastric cancer was the leading cause of morbidity, followed by cancers of the esophagus, colorectum, gastric cardia, liver, and pancreas with ASIRs of 21.8, 11.0, 5.8, 5.7, 4.4, and 1.7 per 100,000 person-years, respectively. Overall, there was a steady increase in the ASIR for all GI neoplasms, and male cases were 2.1 times more frequent than female cases. The ASIR significantly increased by 12.2% per year from 1995 to 2009 for all GI neoplasms, and the increase rates ranged 9.4%-16.7% per year for the individual GI neoplasm. Despite an increase by 1.4% per year from 2009 to 2016, the ASIR decreased for esophageal and gastric cardia cancers by 4.6% and 17.3% per year, respectively. The annual incidence of all GI neoplasms showed significantly differential geographic distributions among different townships of the city during the study period.

We use polarization-resolved electronic Raman spectroscopy to study quadrupolar charge dynamics in a nonmagnetic [Formula: see text] superconductor. We observe two types of long-wavelength [Formula: see text] symmetry excitations: 1) a low-energy quasi-elastic scattering peak (QEP) and 2) a broad electronic continuum with a maximum at 55 meV. Below the tetragonal-to-orthorhombic structural transition at [Formula: see text] , a pseudogap suppression with temperature dependence reminiscent of the nematic order parameter develops in the [Formula: see text] symmetry spectra of the electronic excitation continuum. The QEP exhibits critical enhancement upon cooling toward [Formula: see text]. The intensity of the QEP grows with increasing sulfur concentration [Formula: see text] and maximizes near critical concentration [Formula: see text] , while the pseudogap size decreases with the suppression of [Formula: see text]. We interpret the development of the pseudogap in the quadrupole scattering channel as a manifestation of transition from the non-Fermi liquid regime, dominated by strong Pomeranchuk-like fluctuations giving rise to intense electronic continuum of excitations in the fourfold symmetric high-temperature phase, to the Fermi liquid regime in the broken-symmetry nematic phase where the quadrupole fluctuations are suppressed.

A visual and sensitive Hg2+ detection strategy was developed based on split DNAzyme amplification and hemin-graphene oxide composites (H-GNs). Two split DNAzyme sequences can form two entire enzyme-strands DNA (E-DNA) by T-Hg2+-T interaction. The E-DNA can bind with the loop of molecular beacon (MB) to form Mg2+-dependent DNAzyme structure. The formed DNAzyme can circularly cleave the loop of MB, resulting large amount of DNA fragments. The resultant DNA fragments can prevent H-GNs from aggregation by adsorbing on its surface. Consequently, the supernate with large amount of H-GNs shows dark blue color after chromogenic reaction. This strategy shows a linear range from 50 pM to 1200 pM. The limit detection can be low to 33 pM. This strategy provides a visual and enzyme-free amplification mode for quick and sensitive screen of Hg2+.

Background Hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) is an infectious disease caused by enteroviruses that has a severely impair for those high incidence countries such as China.The current study aimed to investigate the epidemic pattern of HFMD by time and region in Northwestern China. Methods All reported HFMD cases from 2008 to 2015 were collected from local Disease Control and Prevention.The HFMD was diagnosed in accordance with the guidebook provided by the National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People’s Republic of China. Results A total of 154,869 cases of probable HFMD were reported. The overall incidence of HFMD has been increased from 91.68 per 100/000 in 2008 to 335.64 per 100/000 in 2015.The case mortality is decreased from 0.014 per100/000 to 0.011 per 100/000 during the time period. Most HFMD (93.82%) occurred in children younger than 5 years. The seasonal peak of HFMD infections occurred in April–July and September–November and Central regions of Xi’an city were the major locations of the clusters (incidence rate 245.75/100,000; relative risk 1.19, P

Background: The combination of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) and apatinib has been used in the treatment of intermediate or advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, its effectiveness and safety are also argued. Methods: Eligible studies were collected from a computer search of literatures published from the database establishment to May 2019 in PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, Ovid, the Cochrane Library, Wanfang Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and China Biology Medicine Disc. The objective response rate (ORR), the disease control rate (DCR), survival rate (SR), and the incidences of treatment-related adverse effects (AEs) were collected as the relevant outcomes. Data were analyzed through fixed/random effects of meta-analysis models with RevMan 5.3 software. Results: Eight randomized controlled clinical trials comprising 528 patients and 4 cohort studies comprising 226 patients were eventually included. Compared to the control group treated with TACE solely, combination therapy group, in which intermediate or advanced HCC patients were treated with TACE and apatinib, significantly enhanced ORR (relative risk [RR] 2.06, 95% CI 1.63–2.61, p < 0.001), DCR (RR 1.65, 95% CI 1.24–2.20, p < 0.001), and whole SRs of 6-month (RR 1.52, 95% CI 1.08–2.14, p = 0.02), 1-year (RR 1.52, 95% CI 1.25–1.84, p < 0.001), and 2-year (RR 1.84, 95% CI 1.34–2.54, p < 0.001). The incidence of hand foot syndrome, proteinuria, hypertension, and diarrhea was significantly increased in the combination therapy group compared with the control group (p < 0.05), and the incidence of nausea and vomiting, fever, and myelosuppression, respectively, was similar in 2 groups (p > 0.05). Conclusions: The combination therapy of TACE and apatinib can enhance the clinical effectiveness better than TACE solely in patients with intermediate or advanced HCC, while increase in the AEs is usually tolerable.

Ce3+,Tb3+/Mn2+ co-doped Li4SrCa(SiO4)2 (LSCSO) phosphors were synthesized by a high-temperature solid-state reaction based on a highly efficient LSCSO:0.03Ce3+ with UV and blue emissions. Energy transfer (ET) in these phosphors was studied. Analyses indicate that ET efficiency from UV Ce3+ to Tb3+ and Mn2+ are larger than that from Ce3+ with blue emission. Different situations in spectral overlap and diverse interactions lead to the different ET efficiency. Emission color of LSCSO:Ce3+,Tb3+,Mn2+ phosphor can be tuned in green-orange-white region by adjusting the concentrations of activators. The present work may provide an example to explore suitable Ce3+ or Eu2+ doped phosphor for single-phase white phosphor on the basis of efficient energy transfer.

Background In recent years, autologous fat grafting (AFG), also known as fat transfer or lipofilling, has been widely performed for periorbital rejuvenation and defect correction, although the evidence regarding its efficacy and safety is still lacking. Besides, with respect to the periorbital region, it is invariably the earliest appearance area of the facial aging phenomenon. Therefore, a systematic review and meta-analysis is needed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of this technique. Methods A literature search was performed in PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane library databases on November 20, 2020, adhering to the PRISMA guidelines, to identify all relevant articles. Then, a data extraction and standardization process was performed to assess all outcome data. Ultimately, the data were assessed using a random effects regression model with comprehensive meta-analysis software. Results Thirty-nine studies consisting of 3 cohorts and 36 case series with a total of 4046 cases were included. Meta-analysis revealed a relatively high satisfaction rate of 90.9% (95% CI, 86.4%–94.0%). Frequent complications in 4046 patients receiving AFG were edema, chemosis, and contour irregularity, with an overall complication rate of 7.9% (95% CI, 4.8%–12.8%). Conclusion This systematic review and meta-analysis showed that AFG for rejuvenation of eyelids and periorbital area provided a high satisfaction rate and did not result in severe complications. Therefore, AFG might be performed safely for periorbital rejuvenation and reconstruction.

The U.S. confronts an unprecedented public health crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, in the presidential election year in 2020. In such a compound situation, a real-time dynamic examination of how the general public ascribe the crisis responsibilities taking account to their political ideologies is helpful for developing effective strategies to manage the crisis and diminish hostility toward particular groups caused by polarization. Social media, such as Twitter, provide platforms for the public’s COVID-related discourse to form, accumulate, and visibly present. Meanwhile, those features also make social media a window to monitor the public responses in real-time. This research conducted a computational text analysis of 2,918,376 tweets sent by 829,686 different U.S. users regarding COVID-19 from January 24 to May 25, 2020. Results indicate that the public’s crisis attribution and attitude toward governmental crisis responses are driven by their political identities. One crisis factor identified by this study (i.e., threat level) also affects the public’s attribution and attitude polarization. Additionally, we note that pandemic fatigue was identified in our findings as early as in March 2020. This study has theoretical, practical, and methodological implications informing further health communication in a heated political environment.

Evidence for blood pressure-lowering effects of vitamin C (VC) supplementation in clinical trials is inconsistent and limited studies have examined the effect of VC supplementation on hypertension (HTN) control. In this study, eligible patients were cluster assigned to receive 300 mg VC per day or nothing for 6 months. During the 6-month follow-up period, a questionnaire survey was obtained and standardized blood pressure measurements were performed on all subjects. Oral administration of VC significantly decreased the diastolic blood pressure and pulse pressure with a significant increase in HTN control. After adjusting for confounding variables, treatment with VC was associated with ~ 0.5 risk reduction of uncontrolled HTN in subjects received anti-hypertensive medications, whereas lower indoor and outdoor and ground temperature were significantly associated with an increased risk of uncontrolled HTN in all patients. Our results warrant further studies investigating the mechanisms underlying the association between VC and HTN control.

Background. There is an urgent need to identify ideal serological biomarkers that not only are closely related to disease progression from hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) but also have high specificity and sensitivity. We conducted this study to analyze whether miR-375 has a potential value in the early prediction of the progression from HBV-related hepatitis or cirrhosis to HCC. Methods. A total of 177 participants were enrolled. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the predictive capability of selected miR-375 for HBV-HCC. We upregulated the miR-375 expression in HepG2, HepG2.2.15, and HepAD38 cells to determine its effect on cellular proliferation and migration, in vitro using Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assays. Results. Serum miR-375 levels decreased in order from healthy controls to chronic hepatitis B (CHB) without cirrhosis, followed by cirrhosis, and finally, HBV-HCC patients. miR-375 levels were significantly lower in HBeAg-positive and HBV DNA-positive patients than negative (P<0.05) and significantly lower in patients with elevated alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) than normal levels (P<0.05). miR-375 might be a biomarker for HBV-HCC, with a high area under the curve (AUC) of 0.838 (95% confidence interval (CI) 0.780 to 0.897; sensitivity: 73.9%; specificity: 93.0%). The AUC (0.768 vs. 0.584) and sensitivity (93.8% vs. 75.0%) for miR-375 were higher than those for AFP. The overexpression of miR-375 noticeably inhibited proliferation and migration in HepG2, HepG2.2.15, and HepAD38, especially in HepG2.2.15 and HepAD38, which are stably infected with HBV. Conclusions. Serum miR-375 levels are closely related to disease progression from HBV-related hepatitis or cirrhosis to HCC.

Narrow-leafed lupin (Lupinus angustifolius L.) cultivation was transformed by 2 dominant vernalization-insensitive, early flowering time loci known as Ku and Julius (Jul), which allowed expansion into shorter season environments. However, reliance on these loci has limited genetic and phenotypic diversity for environmental adaptation in cultivated lupin. We recently predicted that a 1,423-bp deletion in the cis-regulatory region of LanFTc1, a FLOWERING LOCUS T (FT) homologue, derepressed expression of LanFTc1 and was the underlying cause of the Ku phenotype. Here, we surveyed diverse germplasm for LanFTc1 cis-regulatory variation and identified 2 further deletions of 1,208 and 5,162 bp in the 5' regulatory region, which overlap the 1,423-bp deletion. Additionally, we confirmed that no other polymorphisms were perfectly associated with vernalization responsiveness. Phenotyping and gene expression analyses revealed that Jul accessions possessed the 5,162-bp deletion and that the Jul and Ku deletions were equally capable of removing vernalization requirement and up-regulating gene expression. The 1,208-bp deletion was associated with intermediate phenology, vernalization responsiveness, and gene expression and therefore may be useful for expanding agronomic adaptation of lupin. This insertion/deletion series may also help resolve how the vernalization response is mediated at the molecular level in legumes.

High quantum efficiency is a vital parameter of phosphors for practical application. An efficient near-UV and blue emitting phosphor Li4SrCa(SiO4)2:Ce3+ was synthesized by a traditional solid-state reaction, and luminescent properties were studied in detail. The Ce3+-activated phosphor can emit both a near-UV light centred at 345 nm and a blue light peaking at 420 nm when Ce3+ occupies the Sr and Ca site, respectively. The internal quantum efficiency (IQE) of Li4SrCa(SiO4)2:0.03Ce3+ is as high as 97% under the excitation at 288 nm, while the external quantum efficiency (EQE) is 66%. The IQE and EQE values of Li4SrCa(SiO4)2:0.03Ce3+ under the excitation at 360 nm are 82% and 31%, respectively.

Copper ions play an essential role in some biological processes. Currently, there is a need for the development of convenient and reliable analytical methods for the Cu2+ measurement. In the present work, a sensitive fluorescence method was developed for the determination of copper ions. Amino-functionalized graphene quantum dots (af-GQDs) and selenium nanoparticles (Se NPs) were synthetized, respectively, and they were characterized via transmission electron microscope, infrared spectrum analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectrum measurement. Photo-induced electron transfer (PET) between the prepared two nanomaterials could effectively quench the fluorescence of af-GQDs. Cu(II) was reduced to Cu(I) in the presence ascorbic acid and Cu2Se was finally generated on Se NPs surface, which led to the declined PET efficiency and inhibited the fluorescence quenching of af-GQDs. The change in fluorescence intensity was linearly correlated to the logarithm of the Cu2+ concentration from 1 nM to 10 μM, with a detection limit of 0.4 nM under the optimal conditions. The detections of copper ions in water samples were realized via standard addition method and the recovery values varied from 98.7% to 103%. The proposed fluorescence method was also employed to analyze the uptake of Cu2+ into human cervical carcinoma HeLa cells and cisplatin-resistant HeLa cells (HeLa/DDP cells). The experimental results indicate that the decreased hCTR1 expression level in HeLa/DDP cells weakened the uptake of copper ions into these drug-resistant tumor cells.

Scope GTPs (green tea polyphenols) exert anti‐CRC (colorectal cancer) activity. The intestinal microbiota and intestinal colonization by bacteria of oral origin has been implicated in colorectal carcinogenesis. GT modulates the composition of mouse gut microbiota harmonious with anticancer activity. Therefore, the effect of green tea liquid (GTL) consumption on the gut and oral microbiome is investigated in healthy volunteers (n = 12). Methods and results 16S sequencing and phylogenetic investigation of communities by reconstruction of unobserved states (PICRUSt) analysis of both fecal and saliva samples (collected before intervention, after 2 weeks of GTL (400 mL per day) and after a washout period of one week) in healthy volunteers show changes in microbial diversity and core microbiota and difference in clear classification (partial least squares‐discriminant analysis [PLS‐DA]). An irreversible, increased FIR:BAC (Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes ratio), elevated SCFA producing genera, and reduction of bacterial LPS synthesis in feces are discovered in response to GTL. GTL alters the salivary microbiota and reduces the functional pathways abundance relevance to carcinogenesis. Similar bacterial networks in fecal and salivary microbiota datasets comprising putative oral bacteria are found and GTL reduces the fecal levels of Fusobacterium. Interestingly, both Lachnospiraceae and B/E (Bifidobacterium to Enterobacteriacea ratio—markers of colonization resistance [CR]) are negatively associated with the presence of oral‐like bacterial networks in the feces. Conclusion These results suggest that GTL consumption causes both oral and gut microbiome alterations.

We studied the major floral integrator gene in narrow‐leafed lupin, LanFTc1, and found a series of three overlapping independent deletions within the promoter region that reduce vernalization responsiveness, shorten flowering time, and heighten expression of LanFTc1. The smallest deletion results in a unique intermediate phenotype, which may be valuable for breeding purposes and expanding the agronomic adaptation of lupin to new and existing production regions. Additionally, the insertion/deletion series may also help to increase knowledge of how signalling within the vernalization pathway is mediated at a molecular level in legumes.”

Background Controversy remains as to whether antiviral agents contribute to renal dysfunction in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Thus, the aim of study was to analyze the changes in renal function of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients in response to anti-HBV therapy and the association with treatments. Method We performed a retrospective observational cohort study to investigate factors associated with renal function in 249 Chinese CHB patients who were treated with pegylated interferon α-2a (PEG-IFN-α-2a) or nucleos(t)ide analogues for 48 weeks. Changes of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), which was computed with both the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration and the Modification of Diet in Renal Disease formulas, were tested by repeated measures One-way analysis of variance within groups. A linear mixed effects model for repeated measures was also used to evaluate the association between baseline information and eGFR changes over time in all enrolled patients. The model considered the baseline age, sex, HBV DNA, aminotransferase, blood urea nitrogen, treatment group, time, and group-by-time interaction as fixed effects and incorporated random effects for individual subjects. Results The eGFR increased in patients given PEG-IFN-α-2a, decreased in patients given adefovir, but remained stable in patients given entecavir. Age and blood urea nitrogen were significant negative predictive factors for eGFR changes. Conclusion In real-life study, PEG-IFN-α-2a therapy in CHB patients increased eGFR, thus may associate with renoprotective effects when compared with adefovir or entecavir therapies.

Occult hepatitis B infection (OBI) is characterized by serum hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) negative and hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA positive (HBsAg-/HBV DNA+). Occult hepatitis B infection in community-based populations has been scarcely investigated, and OBI outcomes remain unclear, especially in Wuwei, a region located in Northwest China. This region is one of the areas in China that has the highest prevalence of chronic HBV infection. A prospective study was performed in the general population of 2 towns of Wuwei from June 2011 to May 2014. A questionnaire was used to collect demographic and medical data, and serum samples were collected from the participants and stored until analysis. DNA was detected using quantitative PCR (qPCR) or nested PCR, the HBV DNA from HBV DNA-positive or possible positive (below the detection limit) subjects was extracted and amplified by nested PCR, and the PCR products were sequenced. Sequence analysis was performed using the Mega 6.0 program and CLC sequence viewer software. Hepatitis B virus DNA was detected in 90 of 3,080 HBsAg-negative subjects, and the prevalence of OBI in the study population was 2.92% (90/3,080, 95% CI: 2.33%-3.51%). Hepatitis B virus genomes in 51 of 80 objects (63.75%) contained mutations in the "a" determinant of HBsAg. After 2 years follow-up, 42 of 90 HBV DNA of OBI subjects remained positive, and the natural clearance rate of OBI subjects was 53.3%. Occult hepatitis B infection prevalence in this cohort was much lower than chronic HBV infection in the same region. HBV DNA was cleared in most OBI subjects during the 2 year period. Our data suggest that some OBI may represent a late stage of resolving the HBV infection process.

Eu 2+ -doped Li 4 SrCa(SiO 4 ) 2 phosphor was synthesized by a high temperature solid-state reaction. There are two different crystallographic sites, namely, a Sr 2+ site and a Ca 2+ site in the cell of Li 4 SrCa(SiO 4 ) 2 , which can be occupied by Eu 2+ ions and will generate two emission bands. However, three different emission bands were observed in this phosphor. The first one is peaking at 433 nm with the corresponding excitation band at 250–400 nm. The second one is at 584 nm under the excitation at 395 nm, which shows lower emission intensity than that of the blue emission. The third one is at around 615 nm under the excitation at 460 nm. Analysis suggests that the 433 nm emission belongs to Eu 2+ on Sr 2+ site, and the 584 nm emission originates from Eu 2+ on isolated Ca 2+ site. The 615 nm emission may be related to Eu 2+ clusters.

Although a universal newborn hepatitis B (HB) immunization programme has been implemented in China, hepatitis B virus (HBV) breakthrough infection, including HB surface antigen (HBsAg)-positive infection and occult HBV infection (OBI), still occurs during infancy or childhood. Obtaining the actual prevalence of HBV infection in general children is important for preventing and controlling the spread of HB. Accordingly, we investigated the prevalence of overt infection and OBI in community children and compared the serological and virological characteristics of OBI and HBsAg carrier children to clarify the mechanisms related to OBI. Background: Novel Human Avian Influenza (H7N9) (h-H7N9 AI) occurred in China in February, 2013 and continued today. Although there were many reports on epidemiology, the reservoir and origin have not been confirmed. Methods: Until April 2015, 628 cases collected from WHO. Descriptive epidemiology was used to compare differences between h-H7N9 AI and other h-AI with statistical analysis. Results: Compared with only 18 cases of h-H5N1 AI located just in Hong Kong during 7 months, 571 cases with 212 died (37%) occurred up to February, 2015 and only limited in the mainland. It is suggested h-H7N9 AI were fully different from other h-AI, and may belong to very new type of “Natural Focus Disease (Zoonosis)”. H7N9 AIV was not detected in farms and wild birds in China before and during the early phase, and quite different from h-H5N1 AI occurred in geese of Guangdong in 1996 and in farms in 1997. So, h-H7N9 AI should have occurred in countries with it in birds and poultry for long time, rather than in China. The mean age was 62 years old in the beginning, then decreased to 59.0, 58.0 and 2 years later to 54.8, with correlation of the epidemic-lasting days (r=-0.953P=0.047). It indicated that the senior had no specific immunity and H7N9 AIV was absolutely new virus and never existed in China. Interpretation: We have creatively identified that h-H7N9 AI is with unique pattern based on abnormities in incidence and distributions and should has occurred in another country with it for long time.
