The widely recommended fracture prediction tool FRAX was developed based on and for the general population. Although several adjusted FRAX methods were suggested for type 2 diabetes (T2DM), they still need to be evaluated in T2DM cohort.This study was undertaken to develop a prediction model for Chinese diabetes fracture risk (CDFR) and compare its performance with those of FRAX.In this retrospective cohort study, 1730 patients with T2DM were enrolled from 2009.08 to 2013.07. Major osteoporotic fractures (MOFs) during follow-up were collected from Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and telephone interviews. Multivariate Cox regression with backward stepwise selection was used to fit the model. The performances of the CDFR model, FRAX, and adjusted FRAX were compared in the aspects of discrimination and calibration.6.3% of participants experienced MOF during a median follow-up of 10 years. The final model (CDFR) included 8 predictors: age, gender, previous fracture, insulin use, diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN), total cholesterol, triglycerides, and apolipoprotein A. This model had a C statistic of 0.803 (95%CI 0.761-0.844) and calibration χThe CDFR model has good performance in 10-year MOF risk prediction in T2DM, especially in patients with insulin use or DPN. Future work is needed to validate our model in external cohort(s).

Viscum coloratum (Kom.) Nakai is a well-known medicinal hemiparasite widely distributed in Asia. The synthesis and accumulation of its metabolites are affected by both environmental factors and the host plants, while the latter of which is usually overlooked. The purpose of this study is to comprehensively evaluate the effects of host and habitat on the metabolites in V. coloratum through multiple chemical and biological approaches. The metabolite profile of V. coloratum harvested from three different host plants in two habitats were determined by multiple chemical method including high-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet (HPLC-UV), gas chromatography-flame ionization detector (GC-FID) and ultra-performance liquid chromatography quadrupole time of flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-QTOF/MS). The differences in antioxidant efficacy of V. coloratum were determined based on multiple in vitro models. The multivariate statistical analysis and data fusion strategy were applied to analyze the differences in metabolite profile and antioxidant activity of V. coloratum. Results indicated that the metabolite profile obtained by various chemical approaches was simultaneously affected by hosts and environment factors, and the environment play a key role. Meanwhile, three main differential metabolites between two environment groups were identified. The results of antioxidant assay indicated that environment have more effects on the biological activity of V. coloratum than the host. Therefore, we conclude that the integration of various chemical and biological approaches combined with multivariate statistical and data fusion analysis, which can determine the influences of host plant and habitat on the metabolites, is a powerful strategy to control the quality of semi-parasitic herbal medicine.

For grain crops such as rice (Oryza sativa), grain size substantially affects yield. The histone acetyltransferase GRAIN WEIGHT 6a (GW6a) determines grain size and yield in rice. However, the gene regulatory network underlying GW6a-mediated regulation of grain size has remained elusive. In this study, we show that GW6a interacts with HOMOLOG OF DA1 ON RICE CHROMOSOME 3 (HDR3), a ubiquitin-interacting motif-containing ubiquitin receptor. Transgenic rice plants overexpressing HDR3 produced larger grains, whereas HDR3 knockout lines produce smaller grains compared to the control. Cytological data suggest that HDR3 modulates grain size in a similar manner to GW6a, by altering cell proliferation in spikelet hulls. Mechanistically, HDR3 physically interacts with and stabilizes GW6a in an ubiquitin-dependent manner, delaying protein degradation by the 26S proteasome. The delay in GW6a degradation results in dramatic enhancement of the local acetylation of H3 and H4 histones. Furthermore, RNA sequencing analysis and chromatin immunoprecipitation assays reveal that HDR3 and GW6a bind to the promoters of and modulate a common set of downstream genes. In addition, genetic analysis demonstrates that HDR3 functions in the same genetic pathway as GW6a to regulate the grain size. Therefore, we identified the grain size regulatory module HDR3–GW6a as a potential target for crop yield improvement.

The model of loss and re-establishment of desiccation tolerance (DT) in germinated seeds has been well developed to explore the mechanisms associated with DT, but little attention has been paid to the tissue variation in this model. Herein, we investigated DT in different embryo axis tissues of germinated pea seeds and its re-establishment by poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) treatment and then employed an iTRAQ-based proteomic method to explore the underlying mechanisms. DT varied among the four embryo axis parts of germinated seeds: epicotyl > hypocotyl-E (hypocotyl part attached to the epicotyl) > hypocotyl-R (hypocotyl part attached to the radicle) > radicle. Meanwhile, PEG treatment of germinated seeds resulted in a differential extent of DT re-establishment in these tissues. Proteins involved in detoxification and stress response were enriched in desiccation-tolerant hypocotyls-E and epicotyls of germinated seeds, respectively. Upon rehydration, proteome change during dehydration was recovered in the hypocotyls-E but not in the radicles. PEG treatment of germinated seeds led to numerous changes in proteins, in abundance in desiccation-sensitive radicles and hypocotyls-R, of which many accumulated in the hypocotyls-E and epicotyls before the treatment. We hypothesized that accumulation of groups 1 and 5 LEA proteins and proteins related to detoxification, ABA, ethylene, and calcium signaling contributed mainly to the variation of DT in different tissues and its re-establishment.

Fruit intake is beneficial to several chronic diseases, but controversial in diabetes. We aimed to investigate prospectively the associations of whole fresh fruit intake with risk of incident type 2 diabetes (T2D) in subjects with different glucose regulation capacities.The present study included 79,922 non-diabetic participants aged ≥ 40 years from an ongoing nationwide prospective cohort in China. Baseline fruit intake information was collected by a validated food frequency questionnaire. Plasma HbA1c, fasting and 2 h post-loading glucose levels were measured at both baseline and follow-up examinations. Cox proportional hazards models were used to calculate hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for incident diabetes among participants with normal glucose tolerance (NGT) and prediabetes, after adjusted for multiple confounders. Restricted cubic spline analysis was applied for dose-response relation.During a median 3.8-year follow-up, 5886 (7.36%) participants developed diabetes. Overall, we identified a linear and dose-dependent inverse association between dietary whole fresh fruit intake and risk of incident T2D. Each 100 g/d higher fruit intake was associated with 2.8% lower risk of diabetes (HR 0.972, 95%CI [0.949-0.996], P = 0.0217), majorly benefiting NGT subjects with 15.2% lower risk (HR 0.848, 95%CI [0.766-0.940], P = 0.0017), while not significant in prediabetes (HR 0.981, 95%CI 0.957-4.005, P = 0.1268). Similarly, the inverse association was present in normoglycemia individuals with a 48.6% lower risk of diabetes when consuming fruits 7 times/week comparing to those 1 time/week (HR 0.514, 95% CI [0.368-0.948]), but not in prediabetes (HR 0.883, 95% CI [0.762-1.023]).These findings suggest that higher frequency and amount of fresh fruit intake may protect against incident T2D, especially in NGT, but not in prediabetes, highlighting the dietary recommendation of higher fresh fruit consumption to prevent T2D in normoglycemia population.

A new species of fern, Ceratopteris shingii (Pteridaceae), was identified and characterized. It is endemic to Hainan Province, China. Ceratopteris shingii shares similar morphological characters with C. thalictroides but can be easily distinguished by its creeping rhizomes. In addition, molecular evidence indicated that the new species is sister to other Ceratopteris species.

Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) LINC00473 plays a carcinogenic role in a variety of different tumor types. Nevertheless, the mechanisms through which LINC00473 regulates the radiosensitivity of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) cells remains elusive. In the present study, reverse transcription-quantitative PCR was used to quantify the expression of LINC00473, microRNA (miRNA/miR)-497-5p and cell division cycle 25A (CDC25A) in ESCC tissues. The association between LINC00473 expression and the clinicopathological characteristics of patients with ESCC was also assessed. Furthermore, Cell Counting kit-8 and colony formation assays were carried out to monitor the proliferation of ESCC cells exposed to X-ray radiation. A dual-luciferase reporter assay was also conducted to analyze the interaction between LINC00473 and miR-497-5p, as well as the interaction between CDC25A and miR-497-5p. The findings of the present study demonstrated that in ESCC tissues and cells, the expression levels of LINC00473 and CDC25A were significantly upregulated, while the expression of miR-497-5p was downregulated. The high expression level of LINC00473 was associated with a higher T stage, lymph node metastasis stage and a lower tumor differentiation grade in patients with ESCC. Following irradiation, transfection with miR-497-5p mimics reduced the promoting effect of LINC00473 overexpression on ESCC cell proliferation, and partially impeded the resistance of ESCC cells to X-ray radiation induced by LINC00473 overexpression. Moreover, transfection with miR-497-5p inhibitors partially alleviated the inhibitory effects of LINC00473 knockdown on cellular proliferation, and partly reversed the sensitivity of cells to X-ray irradiation induced by LINC00473 knockdown. Furthermore, it was confirmed that miR-497-5p was able to bind LINC00473 and the 3′-untranslated region of CDC25A. On the whole, the findings of the present study demonstrate that LINC00473 reduces the radiosensitivity of ESCC cells by modulating the miR-497-5p/CDC25A axis.

Seed vigor in crops is important in terms of improving grain quality and germplasm conservation; however, little is known about its regulatory mechanisms through the encoded proteome and gene network. Comparative analyses of transcriptome (RNA sequencing [RNA-seq]) and broadly targeted metabolic profiling of two subspecific rice cultivars with distinct seed vigor during accelerated aging revealed various biological pathways and metabolic processes as key influences explaining trait differences. RNA-seq coexpression regulatory network analyses identified several transcription factors, including bZIP23 and bZIP42, that act as nodes in the gene network. Importantly, transgenic seeds of overexpression of bZIP23 enhanced seed vigor, whereas its gene knockout reduced seed vigor, suggesting that the protein it encodes functions as a positive regulator. Similarly, overexpression and knockout of PER1A that encodes a key player in the detoxification pathway enhanced and decreased seed vigor, respectively. We further demonstrated a direct interaction of the PER1A promoter with bZIP23 in seeds, which activates the expression of PER1A , and the genetic evidence suggested that bZIP23 most likely functions in a common pathway with and acts upstream of PER1A to modulate seed vigor. In addition, the control of seed vigor by the bZIP23-PER1A module was connected with that of the abscisic acid signaling pathway. Collectively, we revealed the genetic architecture of variation in seed vigor and uncovered the bZIP23-PER1A–mediated detoxification pathway that enhances the trait in rice.

To identify whether lymphocyte hydrogen sulfide production is a potential biomarker for predicting coronary artery lesions (CAL) in children with Kawasaki disease (KD). Eighty-six children with KD, 33 normal children and 43 children with fever from June 2016 to January 2019 in Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital were enrolled. Of 86 KD patients, 16 patients exhibited CAL. Lymphocyte hydrogen sulfide production was significantly greater in KD patients (13.7 ± 2.7) nmol/min/108 lymphocytes than in the controls (9.26 ± 3.33) nmol/min/108 lymphocytes and the fever group (8.21 ± 2.77) nmol/min/108 lymphocytes. The lymphocyte hydrogen sulfide production was greater in CAL patients than the non-CAL patients [(16.24 ± 1.81) vs. (13.12 ± 2.58), p < 0.001]. Receiver operating characteristic curve indicated when the lymphocyte hydrogen sulfide production was >15.285 nmol/min/108 lymphocytes, the sensitivity and specificity for predicting CAL at convalescence were 87.5% and 82.9%, respectively. Lymphocyte hydrogen sulfide production in the acute period is a potentially useful biomarker for predicting CAL in KD children.

Syngas, as one cleaner and efficient approach to coal utilization, has been widely regarded as one promising alternative fuel. Owing to the existence of hydrogen molecule, syngas has a great potential to explosion which would be favoured by thermo-power devices but be worried by safety issues on the processes of production, storage, and delivery. Explosive limits and minimum ignition energy are two essential but crucial aspects for the initiation of explosion, and thus a well understanding on those issues should be a prerequisite for massive utilizations. This paper has presented a comprehensive review on the recent progress in the experimental studies on the explosive limits and minimum ignition energy for syngas. Some essential conclusions and some interesting observations have been remarked, and the potential of further studies have been prospected.

The association between neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) with subclinical macrovascular and microvascular diseases has been less investigated. We sought to examine the association between NLR and new-onset subclinical macrovascular and microvascular abnormalities in the Chinese population.From a community cohort, we included 6,430 adults aged ≥ 40 years without subclinical macrovascular and microvascular diseases at baseline. We measured subclinical macrovascular and microvascular abnormalities separately using the ankle-brachial index (ABI), brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV), and albuminuria.During a mean follow-up of 4.3 years, 110 participants developed incident abnormal ABI, 746 participants developed incident elevated baPWV, and 503 participants developed incident albuminuria. Poisson regression analysis indicated that NLR was significantly associated with an increased risk of new-onset abnormal ABI, elevated baPWV, and albuminuria. Compared to overweight/obese participants, we found a much stronger association between NLR and subclinical vascular abnormalities in participants with normal weight. Furthermore, we found an interaction between the NLR and body mass index (BMI) on the risk of new-onset abnormal ABI (NLR was associated with subclinical macrovascular and microvascular diseases in the Chinese population. Furthermore, in participants with normal weight, the association between NLR and subclinical vascular abnormalities was much stronger.

Background Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder with no absolute cure. The evidence of the involvement of gut microbiota in PD pathogenesis suggests the need to identify certain molecule(s) derived from the gut microbiota, which has the potential to manage PD. Osteocalcin (OCN), an osteoblast-secreted protein, has been shown to modulate brain function. Thus, it is of interest to investigate whether OCN could exert protective effect on PD and, if yes, whether the underlying mechanism lies in the subsequent changes in gut microbiota. Results The intraperitoneal injection of OCN can effectively ameliorate the motor deficits and dopaminergic neuronal loss in a 6-hydroxydopamine-induced PD mouse model. The further antibiotics treatment and fecal microbiota transplantation experiments confirmed that the gut microbiota was required for OCN-induced protection in PD mice. OCN elevated Bacteroidetes and depleted Firmicutes phyla in the gut microbiota of PD mice with elevated potential of microbial propionate production and was confirmed by fecal propionate levels. Two months of orally administered propionate successfully rescued motor deficits and dopaminergic neuronal loss in PD mice. Furthermore, AR420626, the agonist of FFAR3, which is the receptor of propionate, mimicked the neuroprotective effects of propionate and the ablation of enteric neurons blocked the prevention of dopaminergic neuronal loss by propionate in PD mice. Conclusions Together, our results demonstrate that OCN ameliorates motor deficits and dopaminergic neuronal loss in PD mice, modulating gut microbiome and increasing propionate level might be an underlying mechanism responsible for the neuroprotective effects of OCN on PD, and the FFAR3, expressed in enteric nervous system, might be the main action site of propionate.

The relationship between serum uric acid (SUA) levels and glycemic indices, including plasma glucose (FPG), 2-hour postload glucose (2h-PG), and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), remains inconclusive. We aimed to explore the associations between glycemic indices and SUA levels in the general Chinese population.The current study was a cross-sectional analysis using the first follow-up survey data from The China Cardiometabolic Disease and Cancer Cohort Study. A total of 105,922 community-dwelling adults aged ≥ 40 years underwent the oral glucose tolerance test and uric acid assessment. The nonlinear relationships between glycemic indices and SUA levels were explored using generalized additive models.A total of 30,941 men and 62,361 women were eligible for the current analysis. Generalized additive models verified the inverted U-shaped association between glycemic indices and SUA levels, but with different inflection points in men and women. The thresholds for FPG, 2h-PG, and HbA1c for men and women were 6.5/8.0 mmol/L, 11.0/14.0 mmol/L, and 6.1/6.5, respectively (SUA levels increased with increasing glycemic indices before the inflection points and then eventually decreased with further increases in the glycemic indices).An inverted U-shaped association was observed between major glycemic indices and uric acid levels in both sexes, while the inflection points were reached earlier in men than in women.

Nonhost resistance, a resistance of plant species against all nonadapted pathogens, is considered the most durable and efficient immune system in plants. To increase our understanding of the response of barley plants to infection by powdery mildew, Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici, we used quantitative proteomic analysis (LC-MS/MS). We compared the response of two genotypes of barley cultivar Golden Promise, wild type (WT) and plants with overexpression of phytoglobin (previously hemoglobin) class 1 (HO), which has previously been shown to significantly weaken nonhost resistance. A total of 8804 proteins were identified and quantified, out of which the abundance of 1044 proteins changed significantly in at least one of the four comparisons (‘i’ stands for ‘inoculated’)- HO/WT and HOi/WTi (giving genotype differences), and WTi/WT and HOi/HO (giving treatment differences). Among these differentially abundant proteins (DAP) were proteins related to structural organization, disease/defense, metabolism, transporters, signal transduction and protein synthesis. We demonstrate that quantitative changes in the proteome can explain physiological changes observed during the infection process such as progression of the mildew infection in HO plants that was correlated with changes in proteins taking part in papillae formation and preinvasion resistance. Overexpression of phytoglobins led to modification in signal transduction prominently by dramatically reducing the number of kinases induced, but also in the turnover of other signaling molecules such as phytohormones, polyamines and Ca2+. Thus, quantitative proteomics broaden our understanding of the role NO and phytoglobins play in barley during nonhost resistance against powdery mildew.

Overexpression of phytoglobins (formerly plant hemoglobins) increases the survival rate of plant tissues under hypoxia stress by the following two known mechanisms: (1) scavenging of nitric oxide (NO) in the phytoglobin/NO cycle and (2) mimicking ethylene priming to hypoxia when NO scavenging activates transcription factors that are regulated by levels of NO and O2 in the N-end rule pathway. To map the cellular and metabolic effects of hypoxia in barley (Hordeum vulgare L., cv. Golden Promise), with or without priming to hypoxia, we studied the proteome and metabolome of wild type (WT) and hemoglobin overexpressing (HO) plants in normoxia and after 24 h hypoxia (WT24, HO24). The WT plants were more susceptible to hypoxia than HO plants. The chlorophyll a + b content was lowered by 50% and biomass by 30% in WT24 compared to WT, while HO plants were unaffected. We observed an increase in ROS production during hypoxia treatment in WT seedlings that was not observed in HO seedlings. We identified and quantified 9694 proteins out of which 1107 changed significantly in abundance. Many proteins, such as ion transporters, Ca2+-signal transduction, and proteins related to protein degradation were downregulated in HO plants during hypoxia, but not in WT plants. Changes in the levels of histones indicates that chromatin restructuring plays a role in the priming of hypoxia. We also identified and quantified 1470 metabolites, of which the abundance of &gt, 500 changed significantly. In summary the data confirm known mechanisms of hypoxia priming by ethylene priming and N-end rule activation, however, the data also indicate the existence of other mechanisms for hypoxia priming in plants.

A high-salt diet (HSD) is a major cause of many chronic and age-related defects such as myocardial hypertrophy, locomotor impairment and mortality. Exercise training can efficiently prevent and treat many chronic and age-related diseases. However, it remains unclear whether endurance exercise can resist HSD-induced impairment of climbing capacity and longevity in aging individuals. In our study, flies were given exercise training and fed a HSD from 1-week old to 5-weeks old. Overexpression or knockdown of salt and dFOXO were built by UAS/Gal4 system. The results showed that a HSD, salt gene overexpression and dFOXO knockdown significantly reduced climbing endurance, climbing index, survival, dFOXO expression and SOD activity level, and increased malondialdehyde level in aging flies. Inversely, in a HSD aging flies, endurance exercise and dFOXO overexpression significantly increased their climbing ability, lifespan and antioxidant capacity, but they did not significantly change the salt gene expression. Overall, current results indicated that a HSD accelerated the age-related decline of climbing capacity and mortality via upregulating salt expression and inhibiting the dFOXO/SOD pathway. Increased dFOXO/SOD pathway activity played a key role in mediating endurance exercise resistance to the low salt tolerance-induced impairment of climbing capacity and longevity in aging Drosophila. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is characterized by severe damage to pancreas islet function through immunological attack; therefore, it is also called 'insulin-dependent diabetes'. The present study aimed to evaluate the safety and clinical efficacy of autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) in adolescent patients with newly diagnosed T1D. A phase-II prospective, parallel-assignment, non-randomized trial was conducted from March 2008 to December 2011 with 40 T1D patients, of whom 20 received AHSCT therapy and 20 were treated only with insulin injections. Of these patients, 14 (70%) in the AHSCT group became insulin-independent for 1.5 to 48 months compared with only one patient in the Insulin group. Of these 14 AHSCT patients, 11 relapsed within a median time of 19.5 (range 5.5-1) months and resumed insulin use. By the end of the 4-year follow-up, the difference in daily insulin dosages between the AHSCT and Insulin groups had become smaller (0.49±0.32IU/kg/day vs. 0.79±0.18IU/kg/day, respectively; P0.01). C-peptide levels increased significantly at 3 months in both groups and later decreased, with the insulin group showing more rapid deterioration. Most of the adverse events in the AHSCT group were transplantation complications. Our data suggest that AHSCT treatment was well tolerated and slowed deterioration of islet β-cell function while significantly decreasing daily insulin dosages. However, because of the high relapse rate, more information on longer-term outcomes is needed before AHSCT can be routinely considered for T1D patients.although this was a non-randomized clinical study, this phase-II trial demonstrated the beneficial effects of AHSCT in patients with newly diagnosed T1D by increasing C-peptide levels and inducing insulin independence, while showing its safety and good tolerability compared with conventional intensive insulin therapy. Thus, these results are helpful for increasing our understanding of the use of haematopoietic stem cell therapy in the treatment of T1D and for evaluating whether it can become more widespread in future.

AIMS To compare the efficacy and safety of once-weekly glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist dulaglutide 1.5 and 0.75 mg with glimepiride in East-Asian patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). MATERIALS AND METHODS In this phase III, multinational, multicentre, double-blind, randomized, parallel-arm, 26-week study, patients with inadequate glycaemic control were randomized 1:1:1 to once-weekly dulaglutide 1.5 or 0.75 mg or daily glimepiride (1-3 mg/d). The primary endpoint was assessment of the non-inferiority of dulaglutide (1.5 mg), as measured by change in glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c), compared with glimepiride using a 0.4% non-inferiority margin. RESULTS A total of 737 patients were randomized (dulaglutide 1.5 mg, n = 244; dulaglutide 0.75 mg, n = 248; glimepiride, n = 245). At week 26, both doses of dulaglutide were non-inferior and also superior to glimepiride for HbA1c reduction from baseline with a least squares mean difference of -6.34 mmol/mol (95% confidence interval [CI] -8.31, -4.26) or -0.58% (95% CI -0.76, -0.39) for dulaglutide 1.5 mg and -3.50 mmol/mol (95% CI -5.47, -1.42) or -0.32% (95% CI -0.50, -0.13) for dulaglutide 0.75 mg (P < .001). Objective: Arterial stiffness is an independent indicator of cardiovascular risk. Autoantibodies (AAs) against angiotensin AT1 receptor (AT1-AAs) and α1-Adrenergic receptor (α1-AAs) are important in the pathogenesis of hypertension. We identified the types of AT1-AAs and α1-AAs in normotensive subjects, with the aim of determining whether these antibodies predict aortic stiffness progression. Methods: Carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cf-PWV) was used to measure aortic stiffness. Overall, 816 subjects (71% of those invited) underwent a medical examination and evaluation of aortic stiffness. The types of AT1-AAs and α1-AAs were measured at baseline. Meanwhile, plasma renin, angiotensin Ⅱ(AngⅡ) and norepinephrine (NE) concentrations were measured at baseline and follow-up. Results: Baseline mean cf-PWV was 9.90 ± 0.84 m/s and follow-up was 10.51±1.12 m/s. The annualized △PWV was 0.12 ±0.08 m/s/year. At the end of follow-up, 129 normotensive subjects developed hypertension and 144 subjects had PWV progression. After adjustment for covariates, autoantibody type was independently associated with △PWV, annualized △PWV and abnormal PWV. As an important energy base of China, Xinjiang is the key part of the “Silk Road” economic belt development strategy and is in an superior position. This paper analyzes the problems exist in the sustainable energy industry based on the distribution status of sustainable resources of Xinjiang. The evaluation index system of the application level of Renewable Energy Systems (RESs) is discussed using the wind farm as an example. Besides it investigates the advantages and disadvantages of the development process of each node in the “Silk Road” economic belt areas according to the current situation of the resources, economic and social development. Suggestions for the development of each area are proposed in the end. This paper will contribute to the sustainable development of renewable energy industry and economy in Xinjiang.

Hami in Xinjiang is one of China's comprehensive energy bases. However, in recent years, this region has been plagued by some problems affecting the development of the energy industry. For example, wind and solar power generation is facing serious curtailment. The region is also characterized by significant pollution because of the coal chemical industry. Hydrogen energy storage has wide application potential and has become a hot research topic in the field. Building a hybrid pluripotent coupling system with wind power, photovoltaic (PV) power, and hydrogen energy storage for the coal chemical industry is an effective way to solve the above-mentioned problems. In this paper, a hybrid multi-energy coupling system is established, which includes a wind energy and PV complementary system, power distribution system, hydrogen energy storage system, gas distribution system, coal chemical industry system, waste heat utilization system, and methanol, O 2 , and H 2 hybrid power generation system. Based on the wind and solar energy resources in Hami, the optimization model of the wind and solar power system is established. The hydrogen energy storage system model is obtained using energetic macroscopic representation. Finally, the economic performance of the system is studied. Results show that the integrated system of wind power, solar power, PV power, and hydrogen energy storage for the coal chemical industry can meet the current situation of China's energy development. The system can also make full use of new energy sources, such as wind power, PV energy, and other forms of energy, thereby reducing the environmental pollution caused by the coal chemical industry and minimizing the industry's ecological impact. In addition, hydrogen energy storage can also be applied to the new energy automotive industry. The findings of this study are of great strategic significance to China's energy system.

Liver fibrosis is an important predictor of mortality in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Peripheral artery disease (PAD) and liver fibrosis share many common metabolic dysfunctions. We aimed to explore the association between PAD and risk of fibrosis deterioration in NAFLD patients.The study recruited 1,610 NAFLD patients aged ≥ 40 years from a well-defined community at baseline in 2010 and followed up between August 2014 and May 2015. Fibrosis deterioration was defined as the NAFLD fibrosis score (NFS) status increased to a higher category at the follow-up visit. PAD was defined as an ankle-brachial index of0.90 or1.40.During an average of 4.3 years' follow-up, 618 patients progressed to a higher NFS category. PAD was associated with 92% increased risk of fibrosis deterioration [multivariable-adjusted odds ratio (PAD is associated with an increased risk of fibrosis deterioration in NAFLD patients, especially in those with IR. The coexistence of PAD and IR may impose an interactive effect on the risk of fibrosis deterioration.

Theranostic agents were drawing a huge attention in the personalized medication. In this study, we established a facile technique, plant extract-based technique for the synthesis of reduced nano-graphene oxide (RNGO) with low cytotoxicity. We formed platforms of photothermal (PT) therapy and further explained that the synthesized RNGO can be utilized as ready to use PT therapy without any additional surface adjustment. In the meantime, with the help of a constant-wave NIR laser (near-infrared), in vitro esophageal adenocarcinoma cell line (OE-19) cancer cells were effectively ablated, because of the PT impact of RNGO. The outcomes propose that the RNGO was appropriate for PT therapy and photoacoustic imaging of the tumor, which is assuring for theranostic nanomedicine.

The association between lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)] levels and metabolic syndrome (MetS) remains uncertain, especially in the Asian population. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the association between Lp(a) levels and MetS in a middle-aged and elderly Chinese cohort.A cross-sectional study of 10,336 Chinese adults aged 40 years or older was conducted in Jiading District, Shanghai, China. Logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate the association between serum Lp(a) levels and MetS.In the overall population, 37.5% of participants had MetS. Compared with individuals in the lowest quartile of serum Lp(a) levels, those in the highest quartile had a lower prevalence of MetS (30.9% vs. 46.9%, P for trend0.0001). Multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that compared with participants in the bottom quartile of serum Lp(a) levels, those in the top quartile had decreased odds ratio (OR) for prevalent MetS [multivariate-adjusted OR 0.45 (95% confidence interval 0.39-0.51); P0.0001]. Additionally, Lp(a) level was conversely associated with the risk of central obesity, high fasting glucose, high triglycerides, and low HDL cholesterol, but not with hypertension. Stratified analyses suggested that increasing levels of Lp(a) was associated with decreased risk of MetS in all the subgroups.Serum Lp(a) level was inversely associated with the risk of prevalent MetS in a middle-aged and elderly Chinese cohort.
