PurposeThis study investigates the role of source familiarity in moderating the effect of service adaptive behavior (SAB) on customer satisfaction. Applying the accessibility–diagnosticity framework and situated cognition theory as the theoretical basis, this research hypothesizes that when customers are familiar with the source that provides the service (i.e. brand familiarity for Study 1 and personal familiarity for Study 2), customer satisfaction responses to SAB would be more moderate than when customers are not familiar with the source. Two studies were conducted to test the hypotheses.Design/methodology/approachTwo experiments manipulating SAB and the brand name familiarity (Study 1) and personal familiarity with the service staff (Study 2) as the source familiarity were conducted. Customer satisfaction as a function of source familiarity was measured to test the hypothesis that source familiarity moderates the relationship between SAB and customer satisfaction.FindingsCompared to unfamiliar sources, familiar sources generated a more moderate response in customer satisfaction as a function of SAB. High familiarity with the brand and service staff induced top-down, memory-based processing that overrides external stimuli as the basis of satisfaction judgment; bottom-up, stimulus-based processing relying on SAB for judgment kicked in only when the source familiarity is low.Practical implicationsFrom a practical point of view, this study indicates the importance of SAB, especially for brands with low awareness, and alludes to the comparative importance of relationship building in service delivery processes.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the literature by validating the role of contextual factors in influencing the impact of SAB on customer satisfaction.

PurposeDue to fierce competition in the mobile retailing market, it is desirable to identify the success factors driving consumers to reuse a mobile shopping application. This research intends to develop a model for mobile shopping app success by integrating an e-commerce systems success (ESS) model and sales promotion benefits and parasocial interaction literatures.Design/methodology/approach302 useable online questionnaires were obtained. The data analysis was conducted using the structural equation modelling.FindingsThe results indicate the validity of the ESS model in predicting consumers' reuse intention of mobile shopping apps where three quality dimensions of system, information and service facilitate both perceived value and user satisfaction, which in turn generates reuse intention. Furthermore, savings and entertainment denoting the utilitarian and hedonic sales promotion benefits have positive impact on perceived value but have no influence on satisfaction. Parasocial intention between consumers and sellers facilitates both value perception and satisfaction.Originality/valueThis research contributes to the mobile retailing literature by identifying the success factors driving consumers' continuance intention of mobile shopping apps. Theoretically, it validates and extends the ESS model in mobile shopping app context by identifying savings, entertainment and parasocial interaction as additional success factors. Based on the findings, two approaches are proposed to suggest mobile retailers design a successful mobile shopping app.

This paper describes the development of smart trousers for self-training purposes during Covid-19, based on the requirements of two footballers from a Taiwanese University team. The two professional athletes aimed to be able to adapt their play as a result of self-training data that would be received visually from the smart trousers. The researcher collected feedback via two interviews, undertaken during the design preparation and garment fitting phases to ensure the garment design would be ready for production.The semi-structured interview technique and Kawakita Jiro method were adopted by the researcher. Firstly, the study investigated the footballer’s preferred smart trouser design in interview. Secondly, smart trousers were developed as initial garment prototypes, both virtually and physically. Thirdly, after the two athletes had been fitted with and worn the trousers for self-training purposes, the researcher issued a questionnaire and conducted a second interview to collect wearer feedback. The results showed that using both emulator data for a virtual prototype and physical garment sample in the step of prototype development has high degree of accuracy to assist pattern-making, fitting and sizing. The users’ feedback focused on three issues: pocket size, comfort of hem stitching, and label position.

The concrete wall of the main shaft of the Liuyuanzi coal mine in Gansu Province, China, experienced serious corrosion less than 3 years after its completion. To deal with the issue, we analyzed the quality of the wall percolates and the composition of the corrosive products and observed the concrete’s microstructure. The concrete had suffered severe gypsum-expansion-induced damage caused by the high concentration of sulfate ions in the percolates and the loose structure of the concrete. Based on these findings, the water-seepage sites behind the wall were sealed with grout and the concrete wall was coated with silane. Now, 2 years after treatment, no new corrosion damage has been observed. This study provides a reference for prevention and control of similar engineering problems elsewhere.

According to the change of resistivity and magnetic permeability of iron load which will influence the resonance frequency in the process of induction heating, this paper presents a frequency tracking system based on the 74HC4046. It can control the output frequency of the power supply in real time, and make the power output frequency to trace the resonance frequency of load. This paper also analyses the phase compensation of the control system, and proposes a new way of phase compensation. The corresponding simulation experiment is done finally. It provides the theory basis to analyze and design an inverter power supply.

The structure of soil will change a lot after freezing and thawing. The mechanical properties and the microstructures are quite different from those of the undisturbed soil. Based on the static triaxial tests and dynamic triaxial tests, this paper studied the mechanical characteristics of a silty clay and quantitatively analyzed the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images of the silty clay before and after freezing and thawing. According to the static triaxial test and the disturbed state concept (DSC), the constitutive relationship of the thawing soil was investigated. The dynamic triaxial tests were conducted to study the dynamic constitutive relationship of the thawing soil and the mechanical parameters were compared with those of the undisturbed soil. The parameters of the microstructures of silty clay were extracted to analyze the influences of the freezing and thawing on silty soil.

A comprehensive and systematic research on the forcible thawing temperature field formed by a single heat transfer pipe with unsteady outer surface temperature was carried out by analytic computation according to the theory of similitude. The distribution law of thawing temperature field, calculation formulas of thawing radius b, heat flux density q and average thawing temperature \(\bar T\) were obtained. It theoretically explains that the main influential factors of thawing radius b, heat flux density q and thawing average temperature \(\bar T\) are K, f, Lλ and ω(f), but Lc affects little. Finally, based on the forcible thawing project of Hulusu air shaft lining, the field data indicate that the analytical formulas of this article are comparatively accurate.

Urban untreated sewage is a kind of excellent cooling and heating source. The rheology and flow characteristic of sewage is the basis of the application of sewage cooling and heating source system. They are studied based on the theoretical assumption of single flow model, principle of tube-type rheometer, and field experiments. The rheological basic equations and flow characteristic of urban untreated sewage are developed. The results of research indicate that sewage has the characteristic of non-Newtonian power-law. The rheological basic equation is τ=0.0031γ˙0.92. The distance coefficient of drag in turbulence of sewage in circle pipe is λt = 0.186(Re′)−0.208. The equations of velocity distribution of sewage are, respectively, v+ = 2.5 ln y+ + 5.7, v+ = 5.11 ln y+ − 3.22, and v+ = y+ in turbulence, intermediate, and laminar current zone in circle pipe. Those can be used to instruct engineering application, design, analysis, and farther research of the system.

In order to reasonably determine the external load of outer freezing shaft wall, it is necessary to conduct interaction study between frozen soil wall and outer shaft wall. First, based on the characteristic of three-stage compressive deformation of foam board, a relational expression of such radial deformations as frozen soil wall, outer shaft wall, and foam board is established; then based on the homogeneous viscoelastic model of frozen soil wall, with the rigidity in different compression stages of foam board being regarded as a constant, an expression of deformation pressure is derived. According to the research conducted in combination with project examples, the foam board remarkably slowed down the increase in deformation pressure; for steady creep frozen soil wall, the final value of deformation pressure should be effectively reduced; for unsteady creep frozen soil wall, the final value of deformation pressure has nothing to do with the effect of foam board, and tends to be equal to the level external load of frozen soil wall. The research shows that as the depth of alluvium rises, the frozen soil wall under high pressure is to gradually present a unsteady creep characteristic and that the value of level external load of outer shaft wall in extra-thick alluvium can be regarded as equal to permanent level ground pressure.
