Abstract Conventional welding methods encounter significant challenges, including poor weldability, low joint strength, and the formation of brittle intermetallic compounds, primarily due to the substantial disparities in the physical and chemical properties of aluminum and iron. To mitigate these issues, the vaporizing foil actuator welding (VFAW) process has emerged as a highly promising solid-phase welding technology, particularly suitable for joining dissimilar metals with pronounced differences in properties, such as aluminum alloys and stainless steels. The present study provides an innovative quantitative analysis of the interfacial impact energy conversion mechanisms within the VFAW process. The analysis reveals that the energy responsible for accelerating the flyer workpiece comprises burst vaporization energy ( $$E_d$$ E d ) and continuous vaporization energy ( $$E_p$$ E p ), with $$E_d$$ E d identified as the primary energy source, contributing approximately 65–80% of the total energy required for acceleration. Further examination elucidates the mechanisms underlying heat generation and transfer during the interface collision. The investigation identifies the formation of an overheating zone at the interface, attributed to the combined effects of plastic deformation energy and adiabatic shear energy within the flyer workpiece. Consequently, the interface temperature can rise significantly, reaching up to 1394 K, with impact velocities as high as 925 m/s. The analyses contribute to establishing a theoretical foundation for understanding the interface bonding mechanisms characteristic of the vaporizing foil actuator welding method.

The integration of TiCN particles into superalloy composites for laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) and the construction of Triply Periodic Minimal Surface (TPMS) lattice structures have been understudied. This research systematically examines the microstructure and mechanical properties of LPBF-processed 10 vol% micron sized TiCN particle reinforced Inconel 718 (IN718) composites. The compressive behavior of the resultant TPMS lattice structures, derived from the TiCN-IN718 composite, was scrutinized through a combination of experimental testing and Finite Element (FE) simulation. The micro-sized TiCN reinforcement is demonstrated to notably augment the hardness, tensile strength, and wear resistance of the LPBFed TiCN-IN718 composite. Furthermore, the application of homogenization-solution-aging (HSA) heat treatment is shown to provide additional enhancements to the composite's mechanical behavior. Both the TiCN reinforcement and the HSA heat treatment are identified as pivotal factors influencing the compressive response of the TPMS lattice structures. Experimental findings indicate that the HSA-treated D-structure attains the highest compressive strength, reaching 122 MPa, outperforming both the G- and P-structures. During quasi-static compression testing, the D- and G-structures undergo a layer-by-layer collapse, while the P-structure exhibits tilt shear band behavior. The congruence between FE simulation results and experimental data substantiates the simulation's reliability and its capacity to accurately evaluate the mechanical behavior of TPMS lattice structures.

Societal Impact Statement Unraveling the genetic intricacies and evolutionary history of Asian Hickories through advanced genome sequencing gives valuable insights into their ecological adaptations. Understanding the impact of historical dynamics, climate fluctuations, and geographical barriers on Asian hickories not only contributes to scientific knowledge but also empowers policymakers with evidence‐based decisions and guides conservationists in their efforts to protect vulnerable species. The identification of potential habitats, especially for the endangered Carya kweichowensis, offers a promising avenue for targeted conservation efforts, aligning with global initiatives to preserve Earth's precious biodiversity, but also ensures the conservation of a vital genetic reservoir for nut‐bearing economic tree species. Summary Biogeographic characteristics of disjunct distribution play a vital role in plant geography and the endangered mechanism. The whole genome resequencing provides an opportunity to study the genetic relationship, population diffusion, and floristic evolution of disjunctive‐distribution flora. Based on the SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) data generated by the whole genome deep resequencing of five EA (Eastern Asian) Carya species, we constructed the phylogenetic tree, genetic structure, and species distribution modeling to clarify the phylogenetic relationships and to predict the potential distribution area of EA Carya. Phylogenetic analysis of Carya revealed two distinct clades, separating EA Carya from NA (North America) Carya. C. kweichowensis, an endangered species, showed the lowest nucleotide diversity and the earliest divergence among studied EA Carya species. Species distribution modeling predicted suitable habitats for five EA Carya species, revealing the potential distribution of endangered C. kweichowensis. Importantly, minimal spatial overlap was observed among distribution regions of EA Carya species during different time periods. The uneven regional distribution of EA Carya is believed to be a consequence of Quaternary climate fluctuations, mountain barriers hindering species dispersal, and the limited cold tolerance of these trees. EA Carya highlights the significant role of climate and geological changes in their regional distribution and migration routes in Asia. Furthermore, the discovery of potential habitats offers a promising avenue for the conservation of C. kweichowensis.

Abstract This paper presents a frequency selective surface (FSS) with a wideband second-order bandpass response in the dual-band of microwave and millimeter wave. The overall structure consists of three layers of metal pattern and two layers of thin dielectric substrate. The top and bottom metal layers have capacitive patches with integrated curled Jerusalem cross slot resonators, while the intermediate metal layer has an inductive grid structure with cross-shaped slot resonators. The incorporated slot resonators play a pivotal role in achieving the desired transmission poles or zeros, which enable a wideband second-order filtering response in the dual-band and a quick roll-off at the passband edges, increasing the efficacy of electromagnetic shielding. To fully investigate the structure's frequency response, an equivalent circuit model of the structure is created, spanning the complete frequency range of 5–50 GHz. Physical samples are created and measured to confirm the suggested approach’s efficacy. The passband center frequencies of the FSS are found at f 1 = 19.42 GHz and f 2 = 42.78 GHz, and the − 3 dB bandwidth is 4.34 GHz (17.25–21.59 GHz) and 8.54 GHz (38.51–47.05 GHz), respectively. The simulation results align well with the experimental data. The transmission response rapidly transitions from the passband to the stopband at the passband boundaries.

Abstract This paper considers the problem of communication protocols between leaders and its followers for motion planning in an initially partially known environment. In this setting, the leader observes the environment information to satisfy its own local objective and and the follower completes its own local objective by estimating the states of the leader and communicating with the leader to update its knowledge about the environment when it is necessary, where the local objectives can be expressed in temporal logic. A verifier construction is built first to contain all possible communication protocols between the leaders and the followers. Then, a two‐step synthesis procedure is proposed to capture all feasible communication protocol that satisfy the local objectives for the leader and follower, respectively. In the first step, a sub‐verifier is synthesized to satisfy the objective of the follower. In the second step, based on the obtained sub‐verifier, an iterative algorithm is proposed to extract communication protocols such that the objectives of the leader and follower are satisfied, respectively. A running example is provided to illustrate the proposed procedures.

AimsWe evaluated the association of multiple thyroid parameters with the levels interleukin 6 (IL6) and interleukin 8 (IL8) in patients with euthyroid type 2 diabetes (T2D).MethodsA total of 166 adults with euthyroid T2D were examined. Serum IL6, IL8, triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxin (FT4), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), five thyroid sensitivity indexes (FT3/FT4, TSH index [TSHI], thyrotroph T4 resistance index [TT4RI], thyroid feedback quantile-based index by FT3 [TFQIFT3], and TFQIFT4), and biochemical parameters were determined.ResultsThe median age was 64 years (IQR: 54.75,70) and the median duration of diabetes was 10 years (IQR: 3,18). IntroductionWith the continuous development of exploration and development, tight sandstone reservoirs have become an essential field of oil and gas exploration. The tight sandstone reservoirs are characterized by complex lithology, poor pore structure, and strong heterogeneity, which bring great difficulties to formation evaluation by well logs. Especially, the accuracy of the Archie formula for calculating the water saturation of tight sandstone reservoirs containing fractures is not high, saturation evaluation faces greater challenges. Therefore, how to calculate the saturation of tight sandstone reservoirs more accurately is an urgent problem to be solved.MethodsIn this paper, the tight sandstone reservoirs of the Jurassic Ahe Formation in the Tarim Basin were taken as the research area. A saturation model that combines the effects of shale and fractures was proposed. Specifically, if the shale content is more than 20%, the Indonesian formula is used to calculate the saturation. If the shale content is less than 20%, the dual porosity model is adopted. Based on the rock resistivity and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiment results, the porosity and T2 logarithmic mean values are selected as influencing factors to calculate the key parameters of the dual porosity model.Results and DiscussionThe saturation of tight sandstone reservoirs in the Jurassic Ahe Formation of the Tarim Basin is calculated through the method proposed in this paper. The case study shows that the accuracy of the proposed method is higher than that of the Archie model. The method proposed in this paper demonstrates excellent adaptability in the quantitative evaluation of saturation for tight sandstone reservoirs.

Abstract The translation of discoveries on extracellular vesicle (EV) based cancer biomarkers to personalised precision oncology requires the development of robust, sensitive and specific assays that are amenable to adoption in the clinical laboratory. Whilst a variety of elegant approaches for EV liquid biopsy have been developed, most of them remain as research prototypes due to the requirement of a high level of microfabrication and/or sophisticated instruments. Hence, this study is set to develop a simple DNA aptamer‐enabled and fluorescence polarisation‐based homogenous assay that eliminates the need to separate unbound detection ligands from the bound species for EV detection. High specificity is achieved by immobilising EVs with one set of antibodies and subsequently detecting them with a DNA aptamer targeting a distinct EV biomarker. This two‐pronged strategy ensures the removal of most, if not all, non‐EV substances in the input biofluids, including soluble proteins, protein aggregates or non‐vesicular particles, prior to quantifying biomarker‐positive EVs. A limit of detection of 5.0 × 106 EVs/mL was achieved with a linear quantification range of 5.0 × 108 to 2.0 × 1010 EVs/mL. Facilitated by a multiple parametric analysis strategy, this aptamer‐guided fluorescence polarisation assay was capable of distinguishing EVs from three different types of solid cancer cells based on quantitative differences in the levels of the same sets of biomarkers on EVs. Given the simplicity of the method and its ease of implementation in automated clinical biochemistry analysers, this assay could be exploited for future EV‐based continuous and real‐time monitoring of the emergence of new macro‐ or micro‐metastasis, cancer progression as well as the response to treatment throughout different stages of cancer management in the clinic.

IntroductionGrain family farms play an important role in promoting agricultural modernization and rural revitalization in China. Taking Hunan Province as an example, based on survey data from 400 grain family farms and agricultural multi-function theory, 24 specific indicators were selected from three dimensions-economic benefits, social benefits, and ecological benefits-to construct an evaluation system for the sustainable development level of grain family farms.MethodsThe entropy weight TOPSIS method was used to measure the sustainable development level of grain family farms in Hunan Province, and the obstacle factor diagnosis model was used to explore the main obstacle factors affecting the sustainable development of grain family farms.Results(1) The sustainable development level of grain family farms in Hunan Province was classified as good overall with respect to the classification criteria of existing relevant studies, but there were comparative differences in each dimension among the four regions (central Hunan, northern Hunan, southern Hunan, and western Hunan) of Hunan Province. (2) According to the diagnosis and analysis results of the obstacle degree, the top six obstacle factors affecting the sustainable development level of grain family farms in Hunan Province were the effective use of water resources, soil protection, and improvement efforts, the number of agricultural ecological culture inheritance activities, carbon emission management, the number of jobs provided for farmers, and adaptability to external environmental changes.DiscussionRelevant policies and systems should be formulated based on local conditions to enhance the integrity and synergy of the development of grain family farms in Hunan Province and to enhance the sustainable development ability of grain family farms in Hunan Province.

Abstract This work presents a novel tri-band bandpass frequency selective surface (FSS) that achieves high-order filtering responses in different frequency bands by means of a complementary structure. The proposed FSS is composed of three metal periodic arrays, which are separated by multilayer dielectric substrates. The gridded-double convoluted loop (G-DCL) structure, which is the middle layer structure, is a hybrid resonator that generates different resonant frequencies. The top and bottom layer structures are designed as complementary structures to the middle layer. To accurately describe the frequency responses, an equivalent circuit model (ECM) has been constructed over the entire band from 0 to 16 GHz. The results of the simulation indicate that the developed FSS can generate three pass-bands operating at 3.79 GHz, 8.34 GHz, and 12.52 GHz, respectively, and − 3 dB fractional bandwidths are 52.8%, 13.7%, and 19.7%. The transmission responses at the edges of each passband show a quick roll-off from the passband to the stopband, and there is significant out-of-band suppression between adjacent passbands. Moreover, the FSS maintains excellent angular and polarization stability within a 50° range. For verification, the tri-band FSS has been fabricated and tested. The experimental results match the simulation results, validating the accuracy of the FSS design.

Abstract In response to abundant freshwater input from rainfall and river discharge, the northern Bay of Bengal (BoB) is featured by low sea surface salinity (SSS) and strong intraseasonal variability (ISV). This study investigates the characteristic and dynamic mechanisms of SSS ISV in the northern BoB based on satellite observations and the output of Simple Ocean Data Assimilation (SODA). The strong SSS ISV is mainly concentrated near the mouth of the Ganges–Brahmaputra River and along the east coast of India, where the horizontal salinity gradient varies greatly. SSS ISV in the northern BoB is notably in phase with freshwater transport, which peaks from July to November. The contribution of riverine freshwater is significant both geographically and temporally. The SSS budget analysis indicates that the horizontal advection plays a dominant role in SSS ISV. Once currents cross the salinity field, large horizontal advection anomalies become important and favor SSS ISV. Altered SSS patterns can impact water density, potentially influencing the strength and direction of currents. This, in turn, may have cascading effects on local and regional climate patterns.

Abstract Background Growing evidence demonstrates that the synergistic interaction of far-red light with shorter wavelength lights could evidently improve the photosynthesis efficiency of multiple species. However, whether/how far-red light affects sink organs and consequently modulates the source‒sink relationships are largely unknown. Results Here, equal intensities of white and far-red lights were added to natural light for grape plantlets to investigate the effects of far-red light supplementation on grapevine growth and carbon assimilate allocation, as well as to reveal the underlying mechanisms, through physiological and transcriptomic analysis. The results showed that additional far-red light increased stem length and carbohydrate contents in multiple organs and decreased leaf area, specific leaf weight and dry weight of leaves in comparison with their counterparts grown under white light. Compared to white light, the maximum net photosynthetic rate of the leaves was increased by 31.72% by far-red light supplementation, indicating that far-red light indeed elevated the photosynthesis efficiency of grapes. Transcriptome analysis revealed that leaves were most responsive to far-red light, followed by sink organs, including stems and roots. Genes related to light signaling and carbon metabolites were tightly correlated with variations in the aforementioned physiological traits. In particular, VvLHCB1 is involved in light harvesting and restoring the balance of photosystem I and photosystem II excitation, and VvCOP1 and VvPIF3, which regulate light signal transduction, were upregulated under far-red conditions. In addition, the transcript abundances of the sugar transporter-encoding genes VvSWEET1 and VvSWEET3 and the carbon metabolite-encoding genes VvG6PD, VvSUS7 and VvPGAM varied in line with the change in sugar content. Conclusions This study showed that far-red light synergistically functioning with white light has a beneficial effect on grape photosystem activity and is able to differentially affect the growth of sink organs, providing evidence for the possible addition of far-red light to the wavelength range of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR).

This is an article in the field of earth sciences. The newly discovered Maoping graphite deposit is a super-large crystalline graphite deposit that is located in the middle-northern section of the Kang-Dian fault-uplift belt on the western margin of the Upper Yangtze paleo-continent, and the research on the source of mineralization and its mineralization age is relatively weak. The orebodies occur in the epimetamorphic rocks of Mesoproterozoic Tianbaoshan Formation. In this paper, the geochemical characteristics of major ores, trace amounts and rare earth elements were mainly studied. The results show that the original rock of the ore-bearing rock layer is parametamorphic rock, a set of carbonaceous quartz-bearing siltstone, which is deposited in an oxygen-deficient environment. The characteristics of trace elements indicate that the original rock of the ore body is formed by the deposition of offshore terrigenous clasts. The ores show sedimentary characteristics of coastal tidal flat facies, with an average ΣREE of 158 g/t, average δ Ce value of 0.63 (weak negative anomaly), and an average δ Eu value of 0.69 (negative abnormaly). The graphite ore body has a δ13C value of -28.35‰～-29.08‰, with an average of -28.59‰, indicating that the mineralized carbon is dominated by organic carbon. The LA-MC-ICP-MS Zircon U-Pb of amphibole zircon from Xijie hornblende diorite Zircon is (823.4±3.6) Ma, which is later than the formation era of volcanic rocks of the Tianbaoshan Formation (954 Ma), representing the time of superposition metamorphism of graphite. In summary,the genetic type of the ore deposit is sedimentary- metamorphism and its metamorphism may include the regional dynamic metamorphism of Jinning period that is superimposed by contact metamorphism.

ABSTRACTExosomes, a type of extracellular vesicles, have attracted considerable attention due to their ability to provide valuable insights into the pathophysiological microenvironment of the cells from which they originate. This characteristic implicates their potential use as diagnostic disease biomarkers clinically, including cancer, infectious diseases, neurodegenerative disorders, and cardiovascular diseases. Aptasensors, which are electrochemical aptamers based biosensing devices, have emerged as a new class of powerful detection technology to conventional methods like ELISA and Western analysis, primarily because of their capability for high-performance bioanalysis. This review covers the current research landscape on the detection of exosomes utilizing nanoarchitectonics strategy for the development of electrochemical aptasensors. Strategies involving signal amplification and biofouling prevention are discussed, with an emphasis on nanoarchitectonics-based bio-interfaces, showcasing their potential to enhance sensitivity and selectivity through optimal conduction and mass transport properties. The ongoing challenges to broaden the clinical applications of these biosensors are also highlighted.

Abstract Spindle assembly checkpoint (SAC) is a crucial safeguard mechanism of mitosis fidelity that ensures equal division of duplicated chromosomes to the two progeny cells. Impaired SAC can lead to chromosomal instability (CIN), a well‐recognized hallmark of cancer that facilitates tumor progression; paradoxically, high CIN levels are associated with better therapeutic response and prognosis. However, the mechanism by which CIN determines tumor cell survival and therapeutic response remains poorly understood. Here, using a cross‐omics approach, YY2 is identified as a mitotic regulator that promotes SAC activity by activating the transcription of budding uninhibited by benzimidazole 3 (BUB3), a component of SAC. While both conditions induce CIN, a defect in YY2/SAC activity enhances mitosis and tumor growth. Meanwhile, hyperactivation of SAC mediated by YY2/BUB3 triggers a delay in mitosis and suppresses growth. Furthermore, it is revealed that YY2/BUB3‐mediated excessive CIN causes higher cell death rates and drug sensitivity, whereas residual tumor cells that survived DNA damage‐based therapy have moderate CIN and increased drug resistance. These results provide insights into the role of SAC activity and CIN levels in influencing tumor cell survival and drug response, as well as suggest a novel anti‐tumor therapeutic strategy that combines SAC activity modulators and DNA‐damage agents.

IntroductionThe implementation of cultivated land quality protection is fundamental for ensuring the sustainable use of land resources, and it is the inevitable choice for maintaining the balance of agricultural ecology and promoting the long-term healthy development of agriculture.MethodsBased on survey data from 927 grain family farms in 13 major grain-producing areas in China, this paper empirically tests the effects of participation in cooperatives on the cultivated land quality protection behavior of grain family farms by using a logit model, an ordered probit model and the propensity score matching method.ResultsThe results show that participation in cooperatives has a significant positive effect on the implementation of cultivated land quality protection behavior and the degree of cultivated land quality protection of grain family farms. A series of robustness tests reveals that the conclusion of the study does not change. Heterogeneity analysis reveals that the probability of implementing cultivated land quality protection behavior significantly increased, and the effect was greater for farms with the younger farmers, farmers of lower education level, farmers of non-party members, larger scale of operation, longer establishment years, larger labor force, or provincial demonstration.DiscussionOn this basis, we should vigorously support and guide grain family farms to participate in cooperatives, give full play to the advantages of cooperatives, effectively encourage farms to implement cultivated land quality protection behavior, and promote sustainable agricultural development.

Abstract The brain-computer interface (BCI) is a technology that involves direct communication with parts of the brain and has evolved rapidly in recent years; it has begun to be used in clinical practice, such as for patient rehabilitation. Patient electroencephalography (EEG) datasets are critical for algorithm optimization and clinical applications of BCIs but are rare at present. We collected data from 50 acute stroke patients with wireless portable saline EEG devices during the performance of two tasks: 1) imagining right-handed movements and 2) imagining left-handed movements. The dataset consists of four types of data: 1) the motor imagery instructions, 2) raw recording data, 3) pre-processed data after removing artefacts and other manipulations, and 4) patient characteristics. This is the first open dataset to address left- and right-handed motor imagery in acute stroke patients. We believe that the dataset will be very helpful for analysing brain activation and designing decoding methods that are more applicable for acute stroke patients, which will greatly facilitate research in the field of motor imagery-BCI.

The quality control of remanufactured products in a closed-loop supply chain (CLSC) can significantly influence consumers’ decision-making, and the contract coordination of CLSC has also become a research hotspot. This paper explores the quality control problem in a three-level remanufacturing CLSC consisting of a remanufacturer, a retailer, and a recycler by constructing a system dynamics (SD) model, which contains two contract schemes: quality control contract and quality control–revenue-sharing contract. Subsequently, the proposed SD model is analyzed using various schemes. The findings suggest that without mandatory contracts, CLSC members are frequently unable to fulfill their quality improvement commitments. Among them, recyclers are less likely to improve quality and more prone to breaking promises. The quality control problem in CLSC can be addressed through contract coordination, and the quality control contract scheme can avoid non-compliance with quality improvement commitments. The application of the quality control–revenue-sharing combination contract scheme not only resolves the quality control issue but also promotes profit improvement in the CLSC.

Abstract Background Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) is a major contributor to spinal disorders. Previous studies have indicated that the infiltration of immunocytes, specifically macrophages, plays a crucial role in the advancement of IVDD. Exosomes (exo) are believed to play a significant role in intercellular communication. This study aims to investigate the role of exosomes derived from degenerated nucleus pulposus (dNPc) in the process of macrophages M1 polarization. Methods Nucleus pulposus (NP) tissue and nucleus pulposus cells (NPc) were collected from patients with intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) and idiopathic scoliosis. Immunohistochemistry analysis was performed to determine the number of M1 macrophages in NP tissue. Subsequently, exosomes derived from degenerated NP cells (dNPc-exo) and non-degenerated NP cells (nNPc-exo) were collected and co-cultured with M0 macrophages, which were induced from THP-1 cells. The M1 phenotype was assessed using western blot, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence staining, and qRT-PCR. RNA-sequencing analysis was conducted to examine the expression levels of microRNAs in the dNPc-exo and nNPc-exo groups, and qRT-PCR was performed to investigate the effect pf different microRNA to induce macrophage polarization. Furthermore, western blot and qRT-PCR were employed to demonstrate the regulatory effect of microRNAs carried by dNPc-exo on downstream target signaling pathways in macrophages. Finally, an animal model of IVDD was utilized to investigate the impact of dNPc-exo on inducing M1 polarization of macrophages and its role in the IVDD process. Results In this study, we observed an increase in the number of M1 macrophages as the intervertebral disc (IVD) degraded. Additionally, we discovered that dNPc releases exosomes (dNPc-exo) could promote the polarization of macrophages towards the M1 phenotype. Notably, through RNA-sequencing analysis of dNPc-exo and nNPc-exo groups, we identified miR-27a-3p as a highly expressed miRNA in the dNPc-exo group, which significantly influences the induction of M1 polarization of macrophages. And then, we discovered that dNPc-exo has the ability to transport miR-27a-3p and target the PPARγ/NFκB/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, thereby influencing the M1 polarization of macrophages. We conducted experiments using rat model of IVDD and observed that the exosomes carrying miR-27a-3p actually induced the M1 polarization of macrophages and exacerbated the degradation of IVD. Conclusion In conclusion, our findings highlight the significant role of dNPc-exo in IVDD process and provide a basis for further investigation into the mechanism of IVDD and the potential of exosome-based therapy. This paper studies the technological maturity of five Power to X (P2X) technologies: power-to-heat, power-to-refrigeration, power-to-hydrogen, power-to-ammonia and power-to-methane. First, a general three-level indicator system applicable to different P2X technologies is proposed from three dimensions: technical-economic value, technical performance, and social and environmental impacts. Next, a weighting method combining the ordering relation method and the entropy weight method, which integrates subjective and objective weighting methods, is adopted to determine the indicator weight. Then, the five P2X technologies are comprehensively evaluated and compared. The results show that the indicator weight determination and indicator standardization method can effectively deal with multi-level indicator system. The overall score of power-to-heat/refrigeration is significantly higher than that of the other three P2X technologies, while the overall score of power-to-hydrogen is higher than that of power-to-ammonia and power-to-methane. Both power-to-ammonia and power-to-methane technologies get lower scores, indicating that these two technologies have not yet reached the mature stage.

This study employed a three-layer urban fabric analysis method based on Space Syntax techniques to analyze the spatial distribution of the Zhengyi 正一 Namo Daoguans (Nahm-mouh Daoist halls 喃呒道馆) in Guangzhou City during the Republic of China era in quantitative and qualitative ways. We investigated their relationships with physical geographic elements, population numbers, the spatial distribution of local temples, cultural practices, and urban topological spaces, which reflected the complexity and flexibility of their distribution patterns, as well as the marginal, commercial nature of the ritual industries they operate. Meanwhile, compared to other influencing urban factors, the Normalized angular choice (NACH) of urban streets plays a decisive role in the spatial distribution of most Namo Daoguans. The locations of Namo Daoguans were mainly chosen on the streets that people passed through most often, and the travel distance within 750 meters (about 10 minutes walking distance) could nearly encompass all Namo Daoguans. Finally, we summarize the logic and pattern of site selection for the Namo Daoguans in Guangzhou at that time. These new findings deepen the current understanding of related knowledge and provide a basis for future planning and design assessment of related spaces.

Marine transportation is pivotal in the rapid development of global trade, significantly enhancing international economic and trade connectivity and impacting the sustainable development of the global economy. In this study, we developed a novel technical framework based on the Laplacian matrix to evaluate the node significance and edge connectivity of the global shipping network using 2019 vessel schedule data from the top 30 liner shipping companies, as ranked by Alphaliner. Our analyses were conducted in both L-space, characterizing the connectivity function, and P-space, characterizing the transfer function. The findings indicate the following. (1) There is no consistent relationship between node significance and centrality for most ports. Ports with high node significance are mainly located in the Asia–Pacific region, with Singapore Port being the port with the highest node significance in L-space and Shanghai Port being the port with the highest node significance in P-space. (2) In L-space, the structures with significant improvements in edge connectivity in the shipping network have at least one port node that exhibits both low degree centrality and low betweenness centrality; these are primarily found on East African routes. (3) In P-space, the structures with significant improvements in edge connectivity in the shipping network are more complex but are notably linked to the ports of Assaluyeh and Bandar Abbas in Iran. The proposed node evaluation and edge addition strategy effectively analyze port significance and edge connectivity, providing decision-making support for optimizing port layouts, supporting container route planning, and enhancing the overall performance of the shipping network.

In this study, we investigated reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-assisted device-to-device (D2D) communication systems over Nakagami-m fading channels. To enhance the reliability of RIS-assisted D2D communications, we utilized the rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) technique to maximize the achievable ergodic rate for our considered systems. Specifically, both devices decoded the common symbol by treating private symbols as interference, and then each private symbol was decoded by treating the other as interference. In order to maximize the achievable ergodic rate at the destination, we analyzed the achievable ergodic rate of the RIS link and the D2D link, and the destination jointly decoded both symbols transmitted from the source and device by involving the maximum ratio combination (MRC). We obtained a closed-form expression for the achievable ergodic rate of the proposed RIS-assisted D2D communication system. Finally, we investigated the influence of power allocation factors and the number of reflective elements on the achievable ergodic rate. As seen by the numerical results, there was a good match between the analysis and simulation results, as well as significant superiority compared with existing works.

Histone H3 lysine 27 trimethylation (H3K27me3) is a histone modification associated with transcriptional repression. However, insights into the genome-wide pattern of H3K27me3 in grapevines are limited. Here, anti-H3K27 chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP), high-throughput sequencing, and transcriptome analysis were performed using leaves of Vitis amurensis. The leaves were treated at 4 °C for 2 h and 24 h and used to investigate changes in H3K27me3 under chilling treatment. The results show that H3K27me3 is well-distributed both in gene regions (−50%) and in the intergenic region (−50%) in the grapevine genome (Vitis vinifera ‘Pinot Noir PN40024’). H3K27me3 was found to be localized in 8 368 annotated gene regions in all detected samples (leaves at normal temperature and under chilling treatments) and mainly enriched in gene bodies with the adjacent promoter and downstream areas. The short-term chilling treatments (4 °C for 2 h) induced 2 793 gains and 305 losses in H3K27me3 modification. Subsequently, 97.3% of the alterations were restored to original levels after 24 h treatment. The ChIP-qPCR for five differential peaks showed similar results to the data for ChIP-seq, indicating that the chilling-induced H3K27me3 modification is reliable. Integrative analysis of transcriptome and ChIP-seq results showed that the expression of H3K27me3 target genes was significantly lower than those of non-target genes, indicating transcriptional repression of H3K27me3 in grapevine leaves. Furthermore, histone methylation alterations were detected in 82 genes and were related to either repression or activation of their expression during chilling stress. The findings provide the genome-wide H3K27me3 patterns in grapevines and shed light on uncovering its regulation in chilling stress responses.

Cell death resistance is a hallmark of tumor cells that drives tumorigenesis and drug resistance. Targeting cell death resistance-related genes to sensitize tumor cells and decrease their cell death threshold has attracted attention as a potential antitumor therapeutic strategy. However, the underlying mechanism is not fully understood. Recent studies have reported that NeuroD1, first discovered as a neurodifferentiation factor, is upregulated in various tumor cells and plays a crucial role in tumorigenesis. However, its involvement in tumor cell death resistance remains unknown. Here, we found that NeuroD1 was highly expressed in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells and was associated with tumor cell death resistance. We revealed that NeuroD1 enhanced HCC cell resistance to ferroptosis, a type of cell death caused by aberrant redox homeostasis that induces lipid peroxide accumulation, leading to increased HCC cell viability. NeuroD1 binds to the promoter of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), a key reductant that suppresses ferroptosis by reducing lipid peroxide, and activates its transcriptional activity, resulting in decreased lipid peroxide and ferroptosis. Subsequently, we showed that NeuroD1/GPX4-mediated ferroptosis resistance was crucial for HCC cell tumorigenic potential. These findings not only identify NeuroD1 as a regulator of tumor cell ferroptosis resistance but also reveal a novel molecular mechanism underlying the oncogenic function of NeuroD1. Furthermore, our findings suggest the potential of targeting NeuroD1 in antitumor therapy.

The Redamen rare metal deposit is located in the south western part of Keeryin pegmetite typed ore field in western Sichuan. It is a special deposit in the aspects of surrounding rock, element mineralization zoning and distance. The ore with different elevation (3540~3830 m) of the same vein and the same orebody is systematically collected, spodumene single mineral is selected to analyze the C-H-O isotope composition and features of inclusions in different minerals.The inclusions in minerals are mainly liquid-rich inclusions. The salinity of the inclusions in spodumene is 8%~20%, and the homogenization temperature is 180~330℃. The inclusions belong to the ore-forming fluid with medium-low salinity and medium-high temperature. The inclusions in quartz have salinity of 0%~8%, homogenization temperature of 150~240℃, and belong to low salinity and low temperature fluid. The results of C-H-O isotope test show that the δD/‰ of spotamene in the Redamen rare metal deposit ranges from -97.5 to -104.7 (average of -102.8). Compared with the Lijiagou deposit in the southeast of the ore field, the δD/‰ of spodumene is obviously smaller, with the δ18OH2O/‰ ranging from -0.34 to 2.88 (average of 1.032). However, it is basically consistent with the main metallogenic period of spodumene in Lijiagou deposit, indicating that the ore-forming fluid of late mineralization (that is, the main metallogenic period of spodumene) is mixed with meteoric water. The δ13CV-PDB/‰ of spodumene in the Redamen rare metal deposit ranges from -10 to -16.6, with an average of -12.7, indicating that the carbon source in the main mineralization period (spodumene formation period) has a mixed nature of magmatic system and meteoric precipitation system, which is related to the low temperature alteration of magmatic mantle source (granite, mantle multi-phase system) and may be mixed with CO2 generated by the decarboxylation of deposited organic materials. Through the study of mineral C-H-O isotopes and fluid inclusions, the source and evolution process of ore-forming fluids were further clarified.

Abstract Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are associated with tumor progression, recurrence, and therapeutic resistance. To maintain their pool while promoting tumorigenesis, CSCs divide asymmetrically, producing a CSC and a highly proliferative, more differentiated transit‐amplifying cell. Exhausting the CSC pool has been proposed as an effective antitumor strategy; however, the mechanism underlying CSC division remains poorly understood, thereby largely limiting its clinical application. Here, through cross‐omics analysis, yin yang 2 (YY2) is identified as a novel negative regulator of CSC maintenance. It is shown that YY2 is downregulated in stem‐like tumor spheres formed by hepatocarcinoma cells and in liver cancer, in which its expression is negatively correlated with disease progression and poor prognosis. Furthermore, it is revealed that YY2 overexpression suppressed liver CSC asymmetric division, leading to depletion of the CSC pool and decreased tumor‐initiating capacity. Meanwhile, YY2 knock‐out in stem‐like tumor spheres caused enrichment in mitochondrial functions. Mechanistically, it is revealed that YY2 impaired mitochondrial fission, and consequently, liver CSC asymmetric division, by suppressing the transcription of dynamin‐related protein 1. These results unravel a novel regulatory mechanism of mitochondrial dynamic‐mediated CSCs asymmetric division and highlight the role of YY2 as a tumor suppressor and a therapeutic target in antitumor treatment.

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is one of the most popular cancers in digestive tract. Chemotherapy is still the primary treatment for ESCC patients with or without surgery. But the efficacy of the current chemotherapy for ESCC is poor with side effects because of none or weak ESCC targeting and multidrug resistance (MDR). To develop a novel targeting peptide for ESCC targeting diagnosis and therapy, a novel peptide, ESCP9 was screened from a 12-mer phage displayed peptide library. The satisfied sensitivity and specificity of ESCP9 binding to ESCC were characterized with cellular and tissue assays under fluorescence microscope, and by flow cytometry. By the assay of molecular docking, protein kinase C (PKC) was predicted as the target ESCP9 binding to. To develop a novel ESCC targeted and MDR inhibited doxorubicin (DOX) liposomal delivery formulation for ESCC targeting chemotherapy, the DOX delivery formulation (ESCP9-Lipo-DOX-miR101) was synthesized and characterized by using ESCP9 as ESCC directing fragment and miRNA101 as MDR suppressor. Finally, the therapeutic efficacy of the drug formulation for ESCC therapy was primarily evaluated by the therapeutic assay for the wild type and DOX resistant ESCC cells in vitro. The results demonstrated that the drug formulation enhanced cytotoxicity to Eca-109 cells and DOX-resistant Eca-109 cells (Eca-109/ADR) significantly. It is concluded that ESCP9 is a targeting peptide with high specificity and sensitivity, and the ESCP9 conjugated DOX liposomal formulation, ESCP9-Lipo-DOX-miR101, is of the potential to be further studied as an efficient drug formulation for ESCC and DOX resistant ESCC chemotherapy in future.

In order to improve the yield of mung bean peel polysaccharide, on the basis of single-factor experiments, the ultrasonic assisted extraction conditions were optimized by response surface methodology (RSM). The results showed that under the conditions of material-liquid ratio of 1: 40, temperature 77 °C, ultrasonic power 216 W and extraction time 47 min, the extraction rate of mung bean peel polysaccharide was the best, which was 2.55 %. The extracted polysaccharide was phosphorylated and its antioxidant activity in vitro was studied. The results suggested that the modified polysaccharide had a significant scavenging effect on hydroxyl radicals and enhanced the ability of anti-lipid peroxidation, which offered ideas and methods for the development and application of mung bean peel polysaccharide.

Abstract Ischemia/reperfusion (I/R)-induced liver injury with severe cell death is a major complication of liver transplantation. Transmembrane member 16A (TMEM16A), a component of hepatocyte Ca2+-activated chloride channel, has been implicated in a variety of liver diseases. However, its role in hepatic I/R injury remains unknown. Here, mice with hepatocyte-specific TMEM16A knockout or overexpression were generated to examine the effect of TMEM16A on hepatic I/R injury. TMEM16A expression increased in liver samples from patients and mice with I/R injury, which was correlated with liver damage progression. Hepatocyte-specific TMEM16A knockout alleviated I/R-induced liver damage in mice, ameliorating inflammation and ferroptotic cell death. However, mice with hepatic TMEM16A overexpression showed the opposite phenotype. In addition, TMEM16A ablation decreased inflammatory responses and ferroptosis in hepatocytes upon hypoxia/reoxygenation insult in vitro, whereas TMEM16A overexpression promoted the opposite effects. The ameliorating effects of TMEM16A knockout on hepatocyte inflammation and cell death were abolished by chemically induced ferroptosis, whereas chemical inhibition of ferroptosis reversed the potentiated role of TMEM16A in hepatocyte injury. Mechanistically, TMEM16A interacted with glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) to induce its ubiquitination and degradation, thereby enhancing ferroptosis. Disruption of TMEM16A–GPX4 interaction abrogated the effects of TMEM16A on GPX4 ubiquitination, ferroptosis, and hepatic I/R injury. Our results demonstrate that TMEM16A exacerbates hepatic I/R injury by promoting GPX4-dependent ferroptosis. TMEM16A–GPX4 interaction and GPX4 ubiquitination are therefore indispensable for TMEM16A-regulated hepatic I/R injury, suggesting that blockades of TMEM16A–GPX4 interaction or TMEM16A inhibition in hepatocytes may represent promising therapeutic strategies for acute liver injury.

Abstract Background Little is known about the link between the monocyte to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (MHR) and frequent premature ventricular complexes (PVCs). This investigation aimed to evaluate the link between the MHR and frequent PVCs in patients, as well as their outcomes, using the axis, burden, coupling interval–ventricular tachycardia (ABC-VT) risk score (ARS). Methods Two hundred patients with frequent PVCs and 70 controls were retrospectively enrolled, and their general data were gathered. The MHR and ARS were calculated. Then, patients developing frequent PVCs were classified into a medium−/high-risk subgroup and a low-risk subgroup according to ARS. The results were evaluated employing comparative statistical analyses, Spearman’s correlation, logistic regression analyses, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Results The MHR in the controls was obviously lower than that in the frequent PVC group. In addition, the MHR was the lowest in the control group and highest in the medium−/high-risk subgroup, with that of the low-risk subgroup falling in the middle. Abstract Monitoring the ecological environment quality is an important task that is often connected to achieving sustainable development. Timely and accurate monitoring can provide a scientific basis for regional land use planning and environmental protection. Based on the Google Earth Engine platform coupled with the greenness, humidity, heat, and dryness identified in remote sensing imagery, this paper constructed a remote sensing ecological index (RSEI) covering northern Anhui and quantitatively analyzed the characteristics of the spatiotemporal changes in the ecological environment quality from 2001 to 2020. Geodetector software was used to explore the mechanism driving the characteristics of spatial differentiation in the ecological environment quality. The main conclusions were as follows. First, the ecological environment quality in northern Anhui declined rapidly from 2001 to 2005, but the rate of decline slowed from 2005 to 2020 and a trend of improvement gradually emerged. The ecological environment quality of Huainan from 2001 to 2020 was better and more stable compared with other regional cities. Bengbu and Suzhou showed a trend of initially declining and then improving. Huaibei, Fuyang, and Bozhou demonstrated a trend of a fluctuating decline over time. Second, vegetation coverage was the main influencing factor of the RSEI, while rainfall was a secondary factor in northern Anhui from 2001 to 2020. Finally, interactions were observed between the factors, and the explanatory power of these factors increased significantly after the interaction. The most apparent interaction was between vegetation coverage and rainfall (q = 0.404). In addition, we found that vegetation abundance had a positive impact on ecological environment quality, while population density and urbanization had negative impacts, and the ecological environment quality of wetlands was the highest. Our research will provide a theoretical basis for environmental protection and support the high-quality development of northern Anhui.

Abstract Background Interspecific postzygotic reproduction isolation results from large genetic divergence between the subgenomes of established hybrids. Polyploidization immediately after hybridization may reset patterns of homologous chromosome pairing and ameliorate deleterious genomic incompatibility between the subgenomes of distinct parental species in plants and animals. However, the observation that polyploidy is less common in vertebrates raises the question of which factors restrict its emergence. Here, we perform analyses of the genome, epigenome, and gene expression in the nascent allotetraploid lineage (2.95 Gb) derived from the intergeneric hybridization of female goldfish (Carassius auratus, 1.49 Gb) and male common carp (Cyprinus carpio, 1.42 Gb), to shed light on the changes leading to the stabilization of hybrids. Results We firstly identify the two subgenomes derived from the parental lineages of goldfish and common carp. We find variable unequal homoeologous recombination in somatic and germ cells of the intergeneric F1 and allotetraploid (F22 and F24) populations, reflecting high plasticity between the subgenomes, and rapidly varying copy numbers between the homoeolog genes. We also find dynamic changes in transposable elements accompanied by genome merger and duplication in the allotetraploid lineage. Finally, we observe the gradual decreases in cis-regulatory effects and increases in trans-regulatory effects along with the allotetraploidization, which contribute to increases in the symmetrical homoeologous expression in different tissues and developmental stages, especially in early embryogenesis. Conclusions Our results reveal a series of changes in transposable elements, unequal homoeologous recombination, cis- and trans-regulations (e.g. DNA methylation), and homoeologous expression, suggesting their potential roles in mediating adaptive stabilization of regulatory systems of the nascent allotetraploid lineage. The symmetrical subgenomes and homoeologous expression provide a novel way of balancing genetic incompatibilities, providing a new insight into the early stages of allopolyploidization in vertebrate evolution.

A crucial component of ecosystem services (ES) that represents social and humanities values is the cultural ecosystem service (CES), which refers to the non-material advantages that the environment provides for humans. CES are challenging to deeply understand, and little is known about the interactions between CES and landscape variables, particularly in some remote Chinese cities. In order to assess the dominant landscape variables of different CESs from physical, experiential, intellectual and inspirational aspects, this article investigates the landscape variables that may influence the public preferences of various CESs based on social media and geographic data in Anshun, China. The findings are displayed below. The public preferences of various CESs are impacted by the landscape variables in different ways. Physical CESs are influenced by both natural and infrastructure elements, demonstrating that accessibility to restaurants, accommodation, and transit affects how people interact with plays in public. Experiential CESs are primarily influenced by sensory elements, particularly the visual senses, suggesting that when people visit such settings, they place more emphasis on sensory experiences. Intellectual CESs are mostly affected by sensory and natural elements, implying that intellectual CESs with a natural perception are more alluring to tourists. Inspirational CESs are mainly influenced by natural and infrastructure elements, people usually consider nature and convenience when they go to such scenic spots. From the standpoint of promoting people’s wellbeing and boosting tourism appeal, the study’s results can offer fresh perspectives and content additions for the tourism landscape planning and management in Anshun.

With the rapid development of microwave remote sensing and SAR satellite systems, the use of InSAR techniques has been greatly encouraged due to the abundance of SAR data with unprecedented temporal and spatial coverage. Small Baseline Subset (SBAS) is a promising time-series InSAR method for applications involving deformation monitoring of the Earth’s crust, and the sequential SBAS method is an extension of SBAS that allows long-term and large-scale surface displacements to be obtained with continuously auto-updating measurement results. As the Chinese LuTan-1 SAR system has begun acquiring massive SAR image data, the need for an efficient and lightweight InSAR processing platform has become urgent in various research fields. However, traditional sequential algorithms are incapable of meeting the huge challenges of low efficiency and frequent human interaction in large-scale InSAR data processing. Therefore, this study proposes a distributed parallel sequential SBAS (P2SBAS) processing chain based on Hadoop by effectively parallelizing and improving the current sequential SBAS method. P2SBAS mainly consists of two components: (1) a distributed SAR data storage platform based on HDFS, which supports efficient inter-node data transfer and continuous online data acquisition, and (2) several parallel InSAR processing algorithms based on the MapReduce model, including image registration, filtering, phase unwrapping, sequential SBAS processing, and so on. By leveraging the capabilities associated with the distributed nature of the Hadoop platform, these algorithms are able to efficiently utilize the segmentation strategy and perform careful boundary processing. These parallelized InSAR algorithm modules can achieve their goals on different nodes in the Hadoop distributed environment, thereby maximizing computing resources and improving the overall performance while comprehensively considering performance and precision. In addition, P2SBAS provides better computing and storage capabilities for small- and medium-sized teams compared to popular InSAR processing approaches based on cloud computing or supercomputing platforms, and it can be easily deployed on clusters thanks to the integration of various existing computing components. Finally, to demonstrate and evaluate the efficiency and accuracy of P2SBAS, we conducted comparative experiments on a set of 32 TerraSAR images of Beijing, China. The results demonstrate that P2SBAS can fully utilize various computing nodes to improve InSAR processing and can be applied well in large-scale LuTan-1 InSAR applications in the future.

China is in the transition period of urbanization, and the imbalance of land use generated during the original rapid development of megacities still exists, resulting in the preservation of a large number of urban villages in the peripheral areas of cities. Unlike formal housing, these villages are heavily influenced by the confrontation and interweaving between top-down policies of local governments and bottom-up spontaneous construction by local villagers, resulting in a diverse and complex status quo. At the same time, self-built housing in urban villages has become a gathering place for a large number of low-income migrants due to its relatively low rental prices. In terms of the research of urban villages on the current situation of housing, the real needs of users and housing performance are mostly subjective judgments and conclusions. Therefore, the entry point of this paper is the leased space and the leasers, taking Laojuntang Village in Chaoyang District of Beijing as the research object and analyzing its current problems and the real needs of users. This paper adopts an integrated approach of fuzzy Kano model evaluation and building performance simulation. After analyzing the data and discussing the influencing factors, this paper identifies the specific problems and user needs that exist in leased spaces in Laojuntang Village: (1) The architectural performance of leased space is a Must-be Quality, which is the bottom-line requirement and must be improved. (2) The quality of the basic facilities and equipment of the leased space is mostly a One-dimensional Quality, Attractive Quality, and the degree of importance is lower than that of the building performance. (3) The external activity facilities of the leased space are mostly undifferentiated needs, for which the local users are not particularly prominent. (4) The scale and plot ratio of local housing is relatively high, and users are dissatisfied and complaining, which falls under the category of Reverse Quality.

Urban airports are typically large infrastructures with significant cultural, economic, and ecological impacts; meanwhile, abandoned airports are common worldwide. However, there is limited knowledge regarding transformation strategies for the renewal of abandoned airports and their surrounding regions in historically and culturally rich areas. We use Beijing’s Nanyuan Airport as a case study, combining the historic urban landscape approach, land use and land cover change, and counterfactual simulations of land use patterns to construct a comprehensive analytical framework. Our framework was used to analyze the long-term land use patterns of the study area, determine its value, and improve perception from a macro- and multi-perspective. We discovered that the traditional knowledge and planning systems in the study area have largely disappeared, but Nanyuan Airport’s impact on the surrounding land use patterns is unique and significant. By considering the characteristics and mechanisms of land use in the study area, we aimed to find a balance point between the historical context and future potential. As such, we propose optimized recommendations with the theme of connection and development engines. Our findings supplement the planning knowledge of relevant areas and provide a springboard for interdisciplinary research in landscape planning.

Polymer dielectric capacitor for high energy storage is a promising energy storage technology. However, in dielectric capacitor electrode injection process may occur at the metal plate/organic polymer interface under high applied electric field, and the injected carriers will lead to the distorted electric field and the accumulation of space charge in dielectric material, which can seriously cause the breakdown of the capacitor. Furthermore, chemical defects in polymer dielectric may aggravate this effect of electrode injection. For this, based on the first principle simulation method, the effect of carbonyl defect on electrode injection properties at aluminum/polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) interface are studied to reveal the harm of chemical defect to dielectric capacitor insulation and to explain the potential physical mechanism. The results showed that the carbonyl defect can increase the vacuum level shift of interface and electron affinity of PTFE molecule, while decrease the ionization potential of PTFE molecule, which significantly reduce the interface charge injection barrier. Compared with the ideal interface, the electron injection barrier at the carbonyl defect interface decreased from 3.40eV to 2.29eV, and the hole injection barrier decreased from 7.39eV to 5.80eV. As a result, the injection current density of the interface with carbonyl defect is significantly higher under the same electric field.

Abstract Grape quality is regulated by complex interactions between environments and cultivars. Growing suitable cultivars in a given region is essential for maintaining viticulture sustainability, particularly in the face of climate change. We created a database composed of three different subsets of data. The first subset was created by digitizing and curating the seminal report of Amerine and Winkler (1944), which provided grape harvest dates (GHDs), the quality of musts and wines, and wine tasting notes for 148 cultivars from 1935–1941 across five contrasting climatic regions of California. To put this dataset into a climate change context, we collected GHDs and must sugar content (°Brix) records from 1991 to 2018 for four representative cultivars in one of the five studied regions (Napa). Finally, we integrated meteorological data of the five regions during 1911–2018 and calculated bioclimatic indices important for grape. The resulting database is unique and valuable for assessing the fitness between cultivars across environments in order to mitigate the effects of climate change. Abstract During the altimeter era, the sea level in the South China Sea (SCS) and western tropical Pacific (WTP) experienced significant decadal variability. The sea level rose during 1993–2009 and fell during 2010–2019. The decadal variability of Walker Circulation associated with the Pacific Decadal Oscillation can explain the sea level variability in the WTP to a great extent. The wind forced westward propagating Rossby waves increased (decreased) the sea level in the WTP during 1993–2009 (2010–2019). However, the interior wind forcing has a negligible contribution to the decadal variability of the sea level in the SCS. The remote forcing from WTP through the oceanic bridge was supposed to play a dominant role. The sensitive experiments of a 1½‐layer model and Regional Oceanic Modeling System suggested that the sea level signals via the Sibutu Passage and Mindoro Strait accounted for the decadal variability of sea level in the central basin of SCS.

ObjectiveRecent evidence has demonstrated that unilateral carotid artery stenosis (CAS) can contribute to the development of cognitive impairment. However, the features of cognitive dysfunction induced by unilateral CAS remain unclear.MethodsSixty asymptomatic patients with unilateral CAS were divided into mild, moderate and severe stenosis groups. These patients and 20 healthy controls provided clinical data and serum, which was used to assess the levels of certain vascular risk factors. Then, they participated in a battery of neuropsychological tests. Additionally, all participants underwent a 3.0 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan of the brain. Chi-square tests and one-way ANOVA were used to determine significant differences in the risk factors and cognitive test scores between groups. Multiple logistic regression analysis and the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis were performed to identify the independent risk factors for cognitive impairment in patients with CAS. Finally, fluid attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) T1-weighted MRI images were processed by voxel-based morphometry (VBM) analysis using the Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM) 8 software.ResultsCompared with healthy controls, the scores of the Mini-Mental State Examination, Digital Span Test backward, and Rapid Verbal Retrieve were significantly reduced in patients with left CAS. The scores in all cognitive scales were significantly lower in patients with right CAS than in controls. Logistic regression analysis demonstrated that the degree of carotid stenosis was an independent risk factor for cognitive impairment in asymptomatic patients with unilateral CAS. Furthermore, VBM analysis showed that, compared with those in healthy controls, gray matter and white matter volumes in specific brain areas were markedly decreased in patients with severe unilateral CAS. However, in patients with moderate right CAS, there was a significant decline in the volume of gray matter in the left parahippocampal gyrus and supplementary motor area. Additionally, the volume of white matter in the left insula was obviously lower in patients with moderate right CAS than in healthy controls.ConclusionUnilateral asymptomatic CAS, especially on the right side, contributed to cognitive impairment, including memory, language, attention, executive function and visuospatial function. In addition, based on VBM analysis, both gray matter atrophy and white matter lesions were found in patients with unilateral asymptomatic CAS.

Under the wintertime background of westerly flows, heavy rainfall often occurs first over southwestern China and then spreads eastward downstream to southeastern China, causing serious impact on a large scope of southern China. By using the synoptic diagnosis and dynamic analysis methods, we examined a typical eastward-moving heavy rainfall event that occurred over southwestern China on January 8–9, 2015 and then gradually spread eastward to southeastern China on January 10–13. The results show the important role of the Rossby wave train propagating along the subtropical westerly jet in “pushing” the eastward movement of heavy rainfall over southern China. The remote Rossby wave train influenced the variation of heavy rainfall by modifying the local circulation. The Rossby wave train can change the morphology of the East Asian subtropical jet via wave—jet interactions and modify the related secondary upward circulation in the entrance area of the jet, providing favorable dynamic conditions for the occurrence of heavy rainfall. The Rossby wave train can also influence the low-level south branch trough by modifying the associated baroclinic energy conversion process under a background of deep layer subsidence, which favors the transport of plentiful water vapor to the region of heavy rainfall over southern China. The eastward-propagating Rossby wave train pushed the upper level East Asian subtropical jet and the lower level south branch trough as a whole while simultaneously moving east, which caused the region of heavy rainfall to move from southwestern to southeastern China. These results will help to provide a scientific basis for forecasting winter rainfall over southern China.

Bauxite-type vanadium deposit in north sichuan is a newly discovered type of vanadium deposit. Through the study of process mineralogy and selectivity of vanadium, it is found that vanadium has two kinds of occurrence states: The main is an independent mineral in the form of vanadite, and the other is in the form of isomorphism in sericite and illite. The experimental study on the washability of vanadium ore shows that the bauxite type vanadium ore is economic. The valuable element vanadium and molybdenum in ore can be recovered effectively by the combined flowsheet of “ Recovery of sulfide by heavy separation- recovery of vanadium and molybdenum from tailings by roasting in air and alkaline leaching-Recovery of clay ore by leaching residue”. The associated pyrite and clay minerals in ore are utilized synthetically. After the test, the slag leaching rate of vanadium is 74.42%, the liquid leaching rate of vanadium is 75.97%, the slag leaching rate of molybdenum is 88.77%, the liquid leaching rate of molybdenum is 91.00%.

Industrial heritage parks, an effective form of urban brownfield reuse, effectively mitigate pollution, improve the human living environment, and achieve sustainable development; industrial heritage parks, which add blue and green space to a city, also play an important role in presenting urban history and culture, promoting regional economic growth, and achieving human well-being. Exploring the user behavior use of industrial heritage parks and conducting post-occupancy evaluation of projects based on subjective human perceptions from the users’ perspective can contribute to improve the sustainable management, maintenance, and design of projects in the future. However, previous studies on post-occupancy evaluation have not been sufficiently studied for urban industrial heritage parks. This study takes Beijing Shougang Park, a representative industrial heritage park in China, as the research object, and distributes and collects nearly 150 questionnaires about user behavior and four significant evaluation items after the preliminary field research, analyzes the importance and satisfaction evaluation of the park design elements (place characteristics, natural environment characteristics, usability characteristics, and management characteristics), and uses a frequency analysis, an IPA analysis, an independent t-test, an analysis of variance, and a multiple regression analysis, and other methods are used, to quantitatively analyze the content of the questionnaire. The results of the study include the following: (1) The park is mainly used by people in their twenties to thirties and forties, and the usage rate of the sports plaza, which is the main facility, is the highest, while the usage rate of the renovation facility, the machine room, is the lowest. (2) While Shougang Park users were more satisfied with the natural environment features, Shougang Park users were found to be relatively less satisfied with the place and usability features. (3) The natural environment characteristics of Shougang Park had a positive effect on both overall satisfaction and recommendation intention. Finally, based on the questions and suggestions from users, a park renewal optimization strategy is proposed, hoping to provide suggestions for the renovation and design of similar industrial heritage parks in Chinese cities.

Candida albicans (C. albicans) reigns as a major cause of clinical candidiasis. C. albicans biofilms are known to increase resistance to antifungal agents, making biofilm-related infections particularly challenging to treat. Drug resistance is of particular concern due to the spread of multidrug-resistant fungal pathogens, while autophagy is crucial for the maintenance of cellular homeostasis. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of an activator and an inhibitor of autophagy on the susceptibility of C. albicans biofilms to antifungal agents and the related mechanisms. The susceptibility of C. albicans biofilms to different antifungal agents after treatment with or without the autophagy activator or inhibitor was evaluated using XTT assay. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and reactive oxygen species (ROS) level, as well as the expression of ROS-related and autophagy-related genes, were examined to evaluate the autophagic activity of C. albicans biofilms when treated with antifungal agents. The autophagosomes were observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The susceptibility of C. albicans biofilms to antifungal agents changed when autophagy changed. The ALP activity and ROS level of C. albicans biofilms increased with the treatment of antifungal agents, and autophagosomes could be observed in C. albicans biofilms. Autophagy was involved in the susceptibility of C. albicans biofilms to antifungal agents.

Over the past decade, there has been a significant expansion in the development of plant-derived extracellular nanovesicles (EVs) as an effective drug delivery system for precision therapy. However, the lack of effective methods for the isolation and characterization of plant EVs hampers progress in the field. To solve a challenge related to systemic separation and characterization in the plant-derived EV field, herein, we report the development of a simple 3D inner filter-based method that allows the extraction of apoplastic fluid (AF) from blueberry, facilitating EV isolation as well as effective downstream applications. Class I chitinase (PR-3) was found in blueberry-derived EVs (BENVs). As Class I chitinase is expressed in a wide range of plants, it could serve as a universal marker for plant-derived EVs. Significantly, the BENVs exhibit not only higher drug loading capacity than that reported for other EVs but also possess the ability to modulate the release of the proinflammatory cytokine IL-8 and total glutathione in response to oxidative stress. Therefore, the BENV is a promising edible multifunctional nano-bio-platform for future immunomodulatory therapies.

In recent years, the quantity of visible satellites has increased significantly due to multiple satellite systems that leaped forward. The BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) and Galileo satellite navigation system (Galileo) broadcast triple-frequency signals and above to users, thus enhancing the reliability, continuity, and availability of the single-epoch real-time kinematic (RTK) positioning. In this study, an improved single-epoch multifrequency multisystem RTK method is successfully developed for the medium-long baseline. First, the Galileo and BDS extra-wide-lane (EWL) ambiguities are fixed at a high success rate, and the Galileo and BDS wide-lane (WL) ambiguity is achieved via the transformation process. Second, the fixed WL ambiguities of Galileo and BDS are exploited to elevate the fixed rate of GPS WL ambiguity. Third, the parametric strategies for ionospheric delay are carried out to upregulate the narrow-lane (NL) ambiguity-fixed rate of GPS. Further, the real-time data are adopted for verifying the feasibility of the method developed in this study. The experimental results demonstrate the optimal carrier-to-noise density ratio (C/N0) of full operational capability (FOC) E5a/E5b at all frequencies, followed by IIR-M L1, and IIR-A/B L2 exhibits the worst performance. Generally, the multipath combination (MPC) of Galileo signals shows root mean square (RMS) values within 0.4 m, ordered as follows: E1>E5b>E5a. For the BDS-2, the B3 signal exhibits optimal performance, while the B1 signal is the worst. The RMS of MPC errors of L1 signals is smaller than the L2 signals for the GPS. Furthermore, under the 50 km baseline, the GPS NL ambiguity-fixed rate using the ionosphere-free (IF) combination reaches only 47.74% at the ratio threshold of 2. Finally, compared to the ionosphere-free combination method, the GPS NL ambiguity-fixed rate is increased by 45.52% with the presented method. The proposed approach broadens the future application of deformation monitoring in medium-long baseline scenarios.
