Abstract When IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1rn) is knocked out, mice have shown strain background dependent and major QTL regulated susceptibility to spontaneously inflammatory arthritis disease (SAD). The impact on bone properties resulting from the interactions of IL-1rn, genomic background strains, and the QTL locus, is unknown. Bone properties in the four specifically bred mouse strains with mutation of IL-1rn and variations in genomic components were investigated with high-resolution MicroCT and genomic analytical tools. Two congenic mouse strains were also measured to evaluate the influence on bone properties by a QTL in the region in chromosome 1. Our results reveal that several bone phenotypes, including bone mineral density (BMD), bone volume, tibial length, and cortical thickness of the tibia are different between wild type and IL-1rn knockout mice in both Balb/c and DBA/1 backgrounds, but IL-1rn knockout affects BMD differently between the two mouse strains. The absence of IL-1rn decreases BMD in Balb/c mice but increases BMD in DBA/1−/− mice compared to their respective wild type counterparts. A QTL transferred from the Balb/c genetic background which affects arthritis in congenic strains appears to also regulate BMD. While several genes, including Ctsg and Prg2, may affect BMD, Ifi202b is the most favored candidate gene for regulating BMD as well as SAD. In conclusion, the previously mentioned bone phenotypes are each influenced in different ways by the loss of IL-1ra when considered in mice from varying genomic backgrounds.

Abstract Compound heat anomalies associated with humidity, such as compound hot-dry events and hot-wet events, pose greater health risks than single heat anomalies. Here, we utilize ambulance dispatch data along with air temperature and relative humidity to study human impacts on these events in China. We show that relying solely on temperature without considering humidity may underestimate the health risks of these events on populations. Over the past 40 years, anthropogenic activities have increased hot-dry events by 2.34 times and decreased hot-wet events by 0.63 times, especially in the Yangtze River region, compared to natural forcing. We also speculate that, in the future up to 2060, under the carbon-neutral scenario, the frequencies of high health-risk hot-dry events and hot-wet events caused by human activities can be reduced by one-half and over one-fifth, respectively, compared to the high-emissions scenario. These findings provide guidance for assessing health risks under global warming.

Abstract Abandoned coal mine goaf is affected by air leakages and prone to spontaneous combustion, resulting in environmental pollution and geological disasters. Haizhou Open-pit Mine adopts both underground and open-pit mining methods. During the long-term mining process, the original stable stratum structure is constantly destroyed, and the slope slides, increasing cracks and severe air leakage around the goaf and roadway. The spontaneous combustion of coal is particularly prominent after the mine shut down. At present, there is no suitable indirect monitoring method to effectively explore the spontaneous combustion area in goaf. The study developed an all-weather monitoring plan and conducted multi-point continuous long-term measurements of the spontaneous combustion state in one abandoned coal mine goaf located in the eastern part of the Haizhou Open-pit Mine. We evaluated the dynamic correlation between surface CO2 flux (SCF) and changes in the underground fire areas, determined the scope and evolution trend of the fire areas, and identified the distribution and change laws of SCF. The results show a significant positive correlation between SCF and soil temperature; moreover, the SCF value was found to reflect the CO2 emission intensity of the goaf. The high SCF in the test area showed month-wise expansion and increase, while the CO2 emission gradually increased monthly, and the calculated annual total emission was approximately 7017 t. Hence, the study can further provide guidance for the monitoring of spontaneous combustion in shallow coal seams, goaf and the assessment of CO2 emissions from underground coal fires through the on-site monitoring and analysis results.

Abstract Extreme heatwaves pose a significant threat to a wide range of environmental, ecological, and social systems. The rapid warming of the Arctic and the Tibetan Plateau (TP), which are the most prominent features in the Northern Hemisphere in the context of climate change, has significantly influenced mid-latitude extreme events in recent decades. This study utilizes observational data and numerical simulations to demonstrate that the variations in Arctic amplification (AA) and TP amplification (TA) play a crucial role in the interannual variability of summer heatwaves (HWs) in the Yangtze River Basin (YRB) (HWs_YRB) region. The HWs_YRB is associated with a zonally oriented barotropic high-pressure system anchored over the YRB region. The spatial distribution and intensity of the HWs_YRB are impacted by the synergistic effects of AA and TA, via a meridional atmospheric tripole pattern and double jets over East Asia. Furthermore, AA primarily impacts the geographical extent of the HWs_YRB, while TA plays a critical role in determining the intensity of the HWs_YRB. Our findings provide an innovative perspective on the linkage between the pronounced warming observed in the Arctic and TP and the occurrence of summer HWs_YRB, enhancing our comprehension of the climatic consequences of the rapid changes in these two geographical regions.

Objective In Foshan Area, due to the specific characteristics of the complex karst stratum, the calcareous siltstone stratum and the fracture zone can easily cause water inrush disaster in metro station foundation pit. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt sonar technology for detection and solve the water inrush problem through comprehensive treatment. Method Taking Zhongshan Park Station of Foshan Metro Line 3 as the research object, the sonar detection scheme for the station is introduced, the groundwater leakage characteristics of the station deep foundation pit are analyzed based on the detection results, the spatial distribution of leakage points and the type of the water inrush disaster are determined. Based on the results of advanced drilling exploration at the bottom of the foundation pit, and the distribution characteristics of the water inrush points in the foundation pit, a joint sealing scheme for leakage in the foundation pit is proposed, including a retreating double liquid grouting waterproofing curtain outside the pit and a pit interlocking rotary jet grouting pile. The key construction techniques of the retreating double liquid grouting, interlocking rotary jet grouting pile and MJS (metro jet system) pile are emphatically described. The groundwater leakage speeds at representative test holes before and after comprehensive treatment are compared to verify the treatment effect. Result & Conclusion The sonar detection technology can accurately detect the specific spots of the deep foundation pit water leakage points in karst stratum and the relevant parameters of the seepage field. The adopted joint sealing scheme of double liquid grouting, double pipe rotary jet interlocking pile and MJS pile can effectively solve the technical problem of large-scale water inrush and leakage in deep foundation pit excavation in complex karst area.

Abstract Determining the fundamental characteristics that define a face as "feminine" or "masculine" has long fascinated anatomists and plastic surgeons, particularly those involved in aesthetic and gender-affirming surgery. Previous studies in this area have relied on manual measurements, comparative anatomy, and heuristic landmark-based feature extraction. In this study, we collected retrospectively at Cedars Sinai Medical Center (CSMC) a dataset of 98 skull samples, which is the first dataset of this kind of 3D medical imaging. We then evaluated the accuracy of multiple deep learning neural network architectures on sex classification with this dataset. Specifically, we evaluated methods representing three different 3D data modeling approaches: Resnet3D, PointNet++, and MeshNet. Despite the limited number of imaging samples, our testing results show that all three approaches achieve AUC scores above 0.9 after convergence. PointNet++ exhibits the highest accuracy, while MeshNet has the lowest. Our findings suggest that accuracy is not solely dependent on the sparsity of data representation but also on the architecture design, with MeshNet's lower accuracy likely due to the lack of a hierarchical structure for progressive data abstraction. Furthermore, we studied a problem related to sex determination, which is the analysis of the various morphological features that affect sex classification. We proposed and developed a new method based on morphological gradients to visualize features that influence model decision making. The method based on morphological gradients is an alternative to the standard saliency map, and the new method provides better visualization of feature importance. Our study is the first to develop and evaluate deep learning models for analyzing 3D facial skull images to identify imaging feature differences between individuals assigned male or female at birth. These findings may be useful for planning and evaluating craniofacial surgery, particularly gender-affirming procedures, such as facial feminization surgery.

Abstract Background Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is a common complication after anesthesia/surgery, especially among elderly patients, and poses a significant threat to their postoperative quality of life and overall well-being. While it is widely accepted that elderly patients may experience POCD following anesthesia/surgery, the exact mechanism behind this phenomenon remains unclear. Several studies have indicated that the interaction between silent mating type information regulation 2 homologue 1 (SIRT1) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is crucial in controlling cognitive function and is strongly linked to neurodegenerative disorders. Hence, this research aims to explore how SIRT1/BDNF impacts cognitive decline caused by anesthesia/surgery in aged mice. Methods Open field test (OFT) was used to determine whether anesthesia/surgery affected the motor ability of mice, while the postoperative cognitive function of 18 months old mice was evaluated with Novel object recognition test (NORT), Object location test (OLT) and Fear condition test (FC). The expressions of SIRT1 and other molecules were analyzed by western blot and immunofluorescence staining. The hippocampal synaptic plasticity was detected by Golgi staining and Long-term potentiation (LTP). The effects of SIRT1 and BDNF overexpression as well as chemogenetic activation of glutamatergic neurons in hippocampal CA1 region of 18 months old vesicular glutamate transporter 1 (VGLUT1) mice on POCD were further investigated. Results The research results revealed that older mice exhibited cognitive impairment following intramedullary fixation of tibial fracture. Additionally, a notable decrease in the expression of SIRT1/BDNF and neuronal excitability in hippocampal CA1 glutamatergic neurons was observed. By increasing levels of SIRT1/BDNF or enhancing glutamatergic neuron excitability in the CA1 region, it was possible to effectively mitigate synaptic plasticity impairment and ameliorate postoperative cognitive dysfunction. Conclusions The decline in SIRT1/BDNF levels leading to changes in synaptic plasticity and neuronal excitability in older mice could be a significant factor contributing to cognitive impairment after anesthesia/surgery. Information and digital technologies have revolutionized research methodologies for measuring people’s perceptions of built environments. Vast amounts of urban data can now be collected, providing more accurate and intuitive presentation and analysis tools. This enhances the research on the built environment from a human-centered perspective. In this paper, with the help of the CiteSpace knowledge map analysis tool, manual deep intervention was combined with clustering and stratified sampling of literature information to identify hot topics and research trends. The results demonstrate that there are two new perspectives. The first is the up-bottom urban/group perspective, specifically a holistic study of group perceptions by large-scale data, represented by big data, with technologies such as artificial intelligence. The second is the bottom-up humanistic/individual perspective, which accurately examines individual perceptions through physiological data based on ergonomics techniques, psychological, and other small-scale data. Furthermore, these two perspectives are interconnected, indicating a cross-trend in both directions. By bridging the gap between subjective perception and the real-world environment, integrating multi-source data offers a more precise and efficient foundation for thoroughly evaluating the built environment, which would help us better understand the built environment and satisfy the users’ demands in the research and practice of urban design.

Abstract Background Preeclampsia, one of the most lethal pregnancy-related diseases, is associated with the disruption of uterine spiral artery remodeling during placentation. However, the early molecular events leading to preeclampsia remain unknown. Results By analyzing placentas from preeclampsia, non-preeclampsia, and twin pregnancies with selective intrauterine growth restriction, we show that the pathogenesis of preeclampsia is attributed to immature trophoblast and maldeveloped endothelial cells. Delayed epigenetic reprogramming during early extraembryonic tissue development leads to generation of excessive immature trophoblast cells. We find reduction of de novo DNA methylation in these trophoblast cells results in selective overexpression of maternally imprinted genes, including the endoretrovirus-derived gene PEG10 (paternally expressed gene 10). PEG10 forms virus-like particles, which are transferred from the trophoblast to the closely proximate endothelial cells. In normal pregnancy, only a low amount of PEG10 is transferred to maternal cells; however, in preeclampsia, excessive PEG10 disrupts maternal vascular development by inhibiting TGF-beta signaling. Conclusions Our study reveals the intricate epigenetic mechanisms that regulate trans-generational genetic conflict and ultimately ensure proper maternal–fetal interface formation.

Abstract Acute liver injury is the basis of the pathogenesis of diverse liver diseases. However, the mechanism underlying liver injury is complex and not completely understood. In our study, we revealed that CERK, which phosphorylates ceramide to produce ceramide-1-phosphate (C1P), was the sphingolipid pathway-related protein that had the most significantly upregulated expression during acute liver injury. A functional study confirmed that CERK and C1P attenuate hepatic injury both in vitro and in vivo through antioxidant effects. Mechanistic studies have shown that CERK and C1P positively regulate the protein expression of NRF2, which is a crucial protein that helps maintain redox homeostasis. Furthermore, our results indicated that C1P disrupted the interaction between NRF2 and KEAP1 by competitively binding to KEAP1, which allowed for the nuclear translocation of NRF2. In addition, pull-down assays and molecular docking analyses revealed that C1P binds to the DGR domain of KEAP1, which allows it to maintain its interaction with NRF2. Importantly, these findings were verified in human primary hepatocytes and a mouse model of hepatic ischemia‒reperfusion injury. Taken together, our findings demonstrated that CERK-mediated C1P metabolism attenuates acute liver injury via the binding of C1P to the DGR domain of KEAP1 and subsequently the release and nuclear translocation of NRF2, which activates the transcription of cytoprotective and antioxidant genes. Our study suggested that the upregulation of CERK and C1P expression may serve as a potential antioxidant strategy to alleviate acute liver injury.

Abstract Rice serves as a fundamental food staple for humans. Its production process, however, unavoidably exposes it to pesticides which may detrimentally impact its quality due to residues. Therefore, it is extremely necessary to monitor pesticide residues on rice during storage. In this research, the Quatformer model, which considers the effects of temperature and humidity on pesticide residues in rice grains, was utilized to forecast the amount of pesticide residues in rice grains during the storage process, and the predicted results were combined with actual observations to form a quality assessment index. By applying the K-Means algorithm, the quality of rice grains was graded and assessed. The findings indicated that the model had high prediction accuracy, and the MAE, MSE, MAPE, RMSE and SMAPE indexes were calculated to be 0.0112, 0.0814, 0.1057, 0.1055 and 0.0204, respectively. These findings provide valuable technical and theoretical support for planning storage conditions, enhancing pesticide residue decomposition, and monitoring rice quality during storage.

Influenza B virus (IBV) stands as a paradox, often overshadowed by its more notorious counterpart, influenza A virus (IAV). Yet, it remains a captivating and elusive subject of scientific inquiry. Influenza B is important because it causes seasonal flu outbreaks that can lead to severe respiratory illnesses, including bronchitis, pneumonia, and exacerbations of chronic conditions like asthma. Limitations in the influenza B virus’s epidemiological, immunological, and etiological evolution must be addressed promptly. This comprehensive review covers evolutionary epidemiology and pathogenesis, host-virus interactions, viral isolation and propagation, advanced molecular detection assays, vaccine composition and no animal reservoir for influenza B virus. Complex viral etiology begins with intranasal transmission of influenza B virus with the release of a segmented RNA genome that attacks host cell machinery for transcription and translation within the nucleus and the release of viral progeny. Influenza B virus prevalence in domesticated and wild canines, sea mammals, and birds is frequent, yet there is no zoonosis. The periodic circulation of influenza B virus indicates a 1–3-year cycle for monophyletic strain replacement within the Victoria strain due to frequent antigenic drift in the HA near the receptor-binding site (RBS), while the antigenic stability of Yamagata viruses portrays a more conservative evolutionary pattern. Additionally, this article outlines contemporary antiviral strategies, including pharmacological interventions and vaccination efforts. This article serves as a resource for researchers, healthcare professionals, and anyone interested in the mysterious nature of the influenza B virus. It provides valuable insights and knowledge essential for comprehending and effectively countering this viral foe, which continues to pose a significant public health threat.

Background: Ovarian cancer has brought serious threats to female health. CCAAT/enhancer binding proteins (C/EBPs) are key transcription factors involved in ovarian cancer. Therefore, comprehensive profiling C/EBPs in ovarian cancer is needed. Methods: A comprehensive analysis concerning C/EBPs in ovarian cancer was performed. Firstly, detailed expression of C/EBP family members was integrally retrieved and then confirmed using immunohistochemistry. The regulatory effects and transcription regulatory functions of C/EBPs were studied by using regulatory network analysis and enrichment analysis. Using survival analysis, receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, and target-disease association analysis, the predictive prognostic value of C/EBPs on survival and drug responsiveness was systematically evaluated. The effects of C/EBPs on tumor immune infiltration were also assessed. Results: Ovarian cancer tissues expressed increased CEBPA, CEBPB, and CEBPG but decreased CEBPD when compared with normal control tissues. The overall alteration frequency of C/EBPs in ovarian cancer was approaching 30%. C/EBP family members formed a reciprocal regulatory network involving carcinogenesis and had pivotal transcription regulatory functions. C/EBPs could affect survival of ovarian cancer and correlated with poor survival outcomes (OS: HR = 1.40, P = .0053 and PFS: HR = 1.41, P = .0036). Besides, expression of CEBPA, CEBPB, CEBPD, and CEBPE could predict platinum and taxane responsiveness of ovarian cancer. C/EBPs also affected immune infiltration of ovarian cancer. Conclusions: C/EBPs were closely involved in ovarian cancer and exerted multiple biological functions. C/EBPs could be exploited as prognostic and predictive biomarkers in ovarian cancer.

ABSTRACT Biosorption and biomineralization are commonly used for the immobilization of metal ions. Biosorption is commonly used as a green method to enrich rare earth ions from wastewater. However, little attention has been paid to the facilitating role of biomineralization in the enrichment of rare earth ions. In this study, a strain of Bacillus sp. DW015, isolated from ion adsorption type rare earth ores and a urease-producing strain Sporosarcina pasteurii were used to enrich rare earth elements (REEs) from an aqueous solution. The results indicate that biomineralization accelerates the enrichment of Terbium(III) compared to biosorption alone. Kinetic analysis suggests that the main mode of action of DW015 was biosorption, following pseudo-second-order kinetics (R2 = 0.998). The biomineralization of DW015 did not significantly contribute to the enrichment of Tb(III), whereas excessive biomineralization of S. pasteurii led to a decrease in the enrichment of Tb(III). A synergistic system of biosorption and biomineralization was established by combining the two bacteria, with the optimal mixed bacteria (S. pasteurii:DW015) ratio being 1:19. This study provides fundamental support for the synergistic effect of biosorption and biomineralization and offers a new reference for future microbial-based enrichment methods.IMPORTANCEA weak microbially induced calcium carbonate precipitation (MICP) promotes the enrichment of Tb(III) by bacteria, while a strong MICP leads to the release of Tb(III). However, existing explanations cannot elucidate these mechanisms. In this study, the morphology of the bioprecipitation and the degree of Tb(III) enrichment were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The data revealed that MICP could drive stable attachment of Tb(III) onto the cell surface, forming a Tb-CaCO3 mixed solid phase. Excessive rapid rate of calcite generation could disrupt the Tb(III) adsorption equilibrium, leading to the release of Tb(III). Therefore, in order for Tb(III) to be stably embedded in calcite, it is necessary to have a sufficient number of adsorption sites on the bacteria and to regulate the rate of MICP. This study provides theoretical support for the process design of MICP for the enrichment of rare earth ions.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate patient characteristics with lens zonular ligament abnormalities in Acute Primary Angle Closure (APAC), identifying related risk factors, and evaluating the efficacy of Pilocarpine, a miotic agent. Design: Retrospective case-control study. Methods: Conducted as a retrospective case-control study at Hebei Provincial Eye Hospital from January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2021, the study included APAC cases undergoing ultrasound phacoemulsification with or without glaucoma surgery. Zonular ligament status was determined by intraoperative indicators such as lens equator visibility post-mydriasis and anterior capsule wrinkling during capsulorhexis. Patients were categorized into APAC and APAC with Lens Subluxation (APACLS) groups. Demographic details, Central Anterior Chamber Depth (ACD), Axial Length (AL), ACD difference between eyes (ACDD), Lens Thickness (LT), Lens Position (LP), and Relative Lens Position (RLP) were recorded and compared. Pilocarpine's impact on intraocular pressure reduction was assessed. Statistical analysis involved bilateral t-tests (for normally distributed data comparing both eyes in each group), non-parametric tests (for comparing two groups with non-normally distributed data), binary logistic regression, and Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis for cutoff value determination related to zonular abnormalities. Results: The APAC and APACLS groups showed no significant difference in age of onset (70.11 ± 8.67 years vs. 70.11 ± 8.67 years, P = 0.159) or axial length of the eye (22.35 ± 0.64 mm vs. 22.36 ± 0.78 mm, P = 0.929). In the APACLS group, LT was greater (5.24 ± 0.37 mm vs. 5.01 ± 0.36 mm, P = 0.011), ACD was shallower (1.42 ± 0.24 mm vs. 1.69 ± 0.24 mm, P = 0.000), and ACDD was larger (0.38 ± 0.22 mm vs. 0.18 ± 0.18 mm, P = 0.000). The LP was lower (4.04 ± 0.32 vs. 4.20 ± 0.22, P = 0.013), and RLP was also lower (0.18 ± 0.02 vs. 0.19 ± 0.01, P = 0.015) in the APACLS group. A shallow ACD and a large ACDD were identified as risk factors associated with lens zonular abnormalities in the affected eyes (ACD OR value 63.97, P = 0.027; ACDD OR value 0.029, P = 0.027). Using ROC curve analysis, the cutoff value for ACDD was determined to be 0.375 mm, and for ACD, it was 1.6 mm. After pupil constriction with Pilocarpine eye drops, the proportion of patients whose intraocular pressure normalized was 75.36 % (52/69) in the APAC group and 71.43 % (25/35) in the APACLS group. Conclusion: ACD and ACDD in the affected eye are indicative of increased risk for APACLS. An ACD 0.375 mm should prompt consideration of zonular ligament abnormalities. Pilocarpine as a miotic treatment is safe and effective for such patients.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide and presents a significant threat to human health. Despite its prevalence, the underlying regulatory mechanisms of HCC remain unclear. In this study, we integrated RNA-seq datasets, proteome dataset and survival analysis and unveiled Stratifin (SFN) as a potential prognostic biomarker for HCC. SFN knockdown inhibited HCC progression in cell cultures and mouse models. Conversely, ectopic expression of Sfn in primary mouse HCC model accelerated HCC progression. Mechanistically, SFN acted as an adaptor protein, activating AKT1 signaling by fostering the interaction between PDK1 and AKT1, with the R56 and R129 sites on SFN proving to be crucial for this binding. In the syngeneic implantation model, the R56A/R129A mutant of SFN inhibited Akt signaling activation and impeded HCC growth. Additionally, peptide inhibitors designed based on the binding motif of AKT1 to SFN significantly inhibited HCC progression. In summary, our findings establish that SFN promotes HCC progression by activating AKT signaling through the R56 and R129 binding sites. This discovery opens new avenues for a promising therapeutic strategy for the treatment of HCC.

BackgroundFerroptosis has been proven to contribute to the progression of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury and can be inhibited or promoted by ATF3. Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) have shown benefits in various cardiovascular diseases with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. However, the impact of SCFAs on ferroptosis in ischemic-stimulated cardiomyocytes remains unknown. This study aimed to investigate the effect of SCFAs on cardiomyocyte ferroptosis, the expression of ATF3, and its potential upstream regulators.Methods and resultsThe expression of ATF3, ferroptosis pathway geneset (FPG), and geneset of potential regulators for ATF3 (GPRA, predicted by the PROMO database) was explored in the public human myocardial infarction single-cell RNA-seq (sma) dataset. Cardiomyocyte data was extracted from the dataset and re-clustered to explore the FPG, ATF3, and GPRA expression patterns in cardiomyocyte subclusters. A dose-dependent toxic experiment was run to detect the suitable dose for SCFA treatment. The erastin-induced ferroptosis model and hypoxia-reoxygenation (H/R) model (10 h of hypoxia followed by 6 h of reoxygenation) were adopted to assess the effect of SCFAs via the CCK8 assay. Gene expression was examined via RT-PCR and western blot. Ferroptosis markers, including lipid peroxides and Fe2+, were detected using the liperfluo and ferroOrange probes, respectively. In the sma dataset, upregulated ferroptosis pathway genes were mainly found in the infarction-stimulated cardiac cells (border zone and fibrotic zone), particularly the cardiomyocytes and adipocytes. The ATF3 and some of its potential transcription factors (VDR, EGR3, PAX5, and SP1) can be regulated by SCFA. SCFA can attenuate erastin-induced lipid peroxidation in cardiomyocytes. SCFA treatment can also reverse erastin-induced Fe2+ increase but may strengthen the Fe2+ in the H/R model. We also precisely defined a ferroptosis subcluster of cardiomyocytes (CM09) that highly expressed FPG, ATF3, and GPRA.ConclusionThe ATF3 and the ferroptosis pathway are elevated in cardiomyocytes of injury-related cardiac regions (border zone, ischemic zone, and fibrotic zone). SCFA can attenuate cardiomyocyte ferroptosis and regulate the expression of ATF3. Our study offers novel insights into the potential targets of SCFAs in the cardiovascular system.

Abstract This study investigates the Tip Clearance Cavitation (TCC) characteristics of three different Tip Clearances (TC) (0.4, 0.6, 0.8) and five inlet negative pressure conditions Pj = (− 20–60)kPa to improve the reliability of the aerospace high-speed centrifugal pump during in-orbit operation, based on the premise of good agreement between the TC 0.6 test curve and the simulation performance curve. Under negative pressure and high-speed conditions, the variation gradient of cavitation characteristics with various inlet negative pressures is non-linear and has a sudden change, but the trend becomes stable after the inlet negative pressure drops to a certain stage. The tip clearance cavitation characteristics vary from the blade surface cavitation characteristics due to the difference in forces on both sides. This study is a proper starting point for the design of aerospace power pumps.

Abstract Macrophages act as the first immune defense line of the host against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). A previous study showed that circRNA_SLC8A1 was significantly upregulated in Mtb-infected macrophages, but its regulatory mechanism in anti-tuberculosis infection is unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the role of circRNA_SLC8A1 in the anti-tuberculosis activity of macrophages. We showed that circRNA_SLC8A1 was upregulated in tuberculosis patients. Moreover, the binding sites of miR-20b-5p on circRNA_SLC8A1 and Sequestosome 1 (SQSTM1/p62) mRNA were predicted by StarBase and verified by the double luciferase reporter gene assay. Next, we found that miR-20b-5p expression was decreased, while SQSTM1 protein expression was increased in a time- and dose-dependent manner in the human macrophage U937 in response to Mtb infection. Furthermore, circRNA_SLC8A1 overexpression vector (circRNA_SLC8A1) or shRNA (sh-circRNA_SLC8A1) and/or miR-20b-5p mimic or inhibitor and/or SQSTM1 overexpression vector (SQSTM1) or small interfering RNA (si-SQSTM1) or its corresponding control were transfected into Mtb-infected macrophages. Results showed that overexpression of circRNA_SLC8A1 or miR-20b-5p inhibitor promoted the secretion of pro-inflammatory factors IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α, increased Nitric Oxide (NO) content and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression, inhibited Reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. Cleaved-caspase-3 protein expression, and cell apoptosis, and promoted Mtb survival. Silencing SQSTM1 inhibited secretion of pro-inflammatory factors and activation of the NF-κB pathway. Overexpression of miR‐20b‐5p blocked the promoting of circ‐SLC8A1 on SQSTM1 protein expression. In summary, circRNA_SLC8A1 sponged miR‐20b‐5p to upregulate SQSTM1/p62 expression and promoted Mtb survival in macrophages through the NF-κB signaling pathway.

Recently, several studies explore to use neural networks(NNs) to solve different routing problems, which is an auspicious direction. These studies usually design an encoder–decoder based framework that uses encoder embeddings of nodes and the problem-specific context to iteratively generate node sequence(path), and further optimize the produced result on top, such as a beam search. However, these models are limited to accepting only the coordinates of nodes as input, disregarding the self-referential nature of the studied routing problems, and failing to account for the low reliability of node selection in the initial stages, thereby posing challenges for real-world applications.In this paper, we take the orienteering problem as an example to tackle these limitations in the previous studies. We propose a novel combination of a variant beam search algorithm and a learned heuristic for solving the general orienteering problem. We acquire the heuristic with an attention network that takes the distances among nodes as input, and learn it via a reinforcement learning framework. The empirical studies show that our method can surpass a wide range of baselines and achieve results iteratively generate the optimal or highly specialized approach.

In this study, secondary ion mass spectrometry and a semiconductor parameter analyzer were used to study and analyze the component interdiffusion at the CdTe/HgCdTe interface before and after annealing, as well as the effect of the formation of a gradient bandgap layer from annealing on the electrical properties of the metal–insulator-semiconductor (MIS) structure. The site-direction relationship of the contracted crystals at the CdTe/HgCdTe interface was revealed by transmission electron microscopy, and it was found that the stacking dislocations in the CdTe layer were significantly reduced after annealing and that the Hg atoms diffused into the CdTe layer through the high-temperature annealing and occupied the lattice positions of the Cd atoms, thus forming the HgCdTe structure, which formed a contracted-crystalline structure with the CdTe substrate. Molecular dynamics was applied to simulate the specific atomic diffusion behavior at different temperatures and different times during the high temperature annealing process, and the above experimental results were verified by a research note on the variation of the diffusion phenomena during the process.

Western diet (rich in highly refined sugar and fat) can induce a range of metabolic dysfunctions in animals and humans, including neuroinflammation and cognitive function decline. Neuroinflammation and cognitive impairment, two critical pathological characteristics of Alzheimer’s disease, have been closely associated with microbial alteration via the gut-brain axis. Thus, the present study aimed to investigate the influence of 2-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-L-ascorbic acid (AA-2βG) isolated from the fruits of Lycium barbarum on preventing the high-fructose diet (HFrD) induced neuroinflammation in mice. It was found that AA-2βG prevented HFrD-induced cognitive deficits. AA-2βG also predominantly enhanced the gut barrier integrity, decreased lipopolysaccharide entry into the circulation, which subsequently countered the activation of glial cells and neuroinflammatory response. These beneficial effects were transmissible by horizontal fecal microbiome transplantation, transferring from AA-2βG fed mice to HFrD fed mice. Additionally, AA-2βG exerted neuroprotective effects involving the enrichment of Lactobacillus and Akkermansia, potentially beneficial intestinal bacteria. The present study provided the evidence that AA-2βG could improve indices of cognition and neuroinflammmation via modulating gut dybiosis and preventing leaky gut. As a potential functional food ingredient, AA-2βG may be applied to attenuate neuroinflammation associated with Western-style diets.

Introduction: Genomic profiling has revolutionized therapeutic interventions and the clinical management of liver cancer. However, pathogenetic mechanisms, molecular determinants of recurrence, and predictive biomarkers for first-line treatment (anti-PD-(L)1 plus bevacizumab) in liver cancer remain incompletely understood.Materials and methods: Targeted next-generation sequencing (tNGS) (a 603-cancer-gene panel) was applied for the genomic profiling of 232 hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and 22 intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) patients, among which 47 unresectable/metastatic HCC patients underwent anti-PD-1 plus bevacizumab therapy. Genomic alterations were estimated for their association with vascular invasion (VI), location of onset, recurrence, overall survival (OS), recurrence-free survival (RFS), and anti-PD-1 plus bevacizumab therapy response.Results: The genomic landscape exhibited that the most commonly altered genes in HCC were TP53, FAT3, PDE4DIP, KMT2C, FAT1, and MYO18A, while TP53, FAT1, FAT3, PDE4DIP, ROS1, and GALNT11 were frequently altered in ICC; notably, KRAS (18.18% vs. 1.29%) and BAP1 (13.64% vs. 1.29%) alterations were significantly more prevalent in ICC. Comparison analysis demonstrated the distinct clinicopathological/genomic characterizations between Chinese and Western HCC cohorts. Genomic profiling of HCC underlying VI showed that LDLR, MSH2, KDM5D, PDE3A, and FOXO1 were frequently altered in the VI group compared to patients without VIs. Compared to the right hepatic lobes of HCC patients, the left hepatic lobe of HCC patients had superior OS (median OS: 36.77 months vs. unreached, p < 0.05). By further comparison, Notch signaling pathway-related alterations were significantly prevalent among the right hepatic lobes of HCC patients. Of note, multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that altered RB1, NOTCH3, MGA, SYNE1, and ZFHX3, as independent prognostic factors, were significantly correlated with the OS of HCC patients. Furthermore, altered LATS1 was abundantly enriched in the HCC-recurrent group, and impressively, it was independent of clinicopathological features in predicting RFS (median RFS of altered type vs. wild-type: 5.57 months vs. 22.47 months, p < 0.01). Regarding those treated HCC patients, TMB value, altered PTPRZ1, and cell cycle-related alterations were identified to be positively associated with the objective response rate (ORR), but KMT2D alterations were negatively correlated with ORR. In addition, altered KMT2D and cell cycle signaling were significantly associated with reduced and increased time to progression-free survival (PFS), respectively.Conclusion: Comprehensive genomic profiling deciphered distinct molecular characterizations underlying VI, location of onset, recurrence, and survival time in liver cancer. The identification of novel genetic predictors of response to anti-PD-1 plus bevacizumab in HCC facilitated the development of an evidence-based approach to therapy.

Microbial induced calcium carbonate precipitation (MICP) is considered as an environmentally friendly microbial-based technique to remove heavy metals. However, its application in removal and recovery of rare earth from wastewaters remains limited and the process is still less understood. In this study, a urease-producing bacterial strain DW018 was isolated from the ionic rare earth tailings and identified as Lysinibacillus based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Its ability and possible mechanism to recover terbium was investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The results showed that the urease activity of DW018 could meet the biomineralization requirements for the recovery of Tb3+ from wastewaters. The recovery rate was as high as 98.28% after 10 min of treatment. The optimal conditions for mineralization and recovery were determined as a bacterial concentration of OD600 = 1.0, a temperature range of 35 to 40°C, and a urea concentration of 0.5%. Notably, irrespective of CaCO3 precipitation, the strain DW018 was able to utilize MICP to promote the attachment of Tb3+ to its cell surface. Initially, Tb3+ existed in amorphous form on the bacterial surface; however, upon the addition of a calcium source, Tb3+ was encapsulated in calcite with the growth of CaCO3 at the late stage of the MICP. The recovery effect of the strain DW018 was related to the amino, hydroxyl, carboxyl, and phosphate groups on the cell surface. Overall, the MICP system is promising for the green and efficient recovery of rare earth ions from wastewaters.

The search of sustainable route for biofuel production from renewable biomass have garnered wide interest to seek for various routes without compromising the environment. Co-pyrolysis emerges as a promising thermochemical route that can improve the pyrolysis output from simultaneously processing more than two feedstocks in an inert atmosphere. This paper focuses on the kinetic modeling and neuro-evolution optimization in the application of catalytic co-pyrolysis of microalgae and plastic waste using HZSM-5 supported on limestone (HZSM-5/LS), in which co-pyrolysis of binary mixture of microalgae and plastic wastes (i.e. High-Density Polyethylene and Low-Density Polyethylene) was investigated over different heating rates. The results have shown a positive synergistic effect between the microalgae and polyethylene in which the apparent activation energies values have reduced significantly (∼20 kJ/mol) compared to that obtained by pyrolysis of individual microalgae component. The kinetic models reflect that the mixture of microalgae and Low-Density Polyethylene for use as co-pyrolysis feedstock requires activation energy that is 23% and 13% lower compared to that required by pure microalgae and the mixture of microalgae and High-Density Polyethylene, respectively. The Progressive Depth Swarm-Evolution (PDSE) was used for neural architecture search, which subsequently provided optimal reaction condition at 873 K can achieve 99.6 % of degradation rate using a tri-combination of LDPE (0.13 %) + HDPE (0.77 %) + MA (0.11 %) in the presence of HZSM-5/LS catalyst.

Human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is an underlying cause of lower respiratory illnesses in children, elderly and immunocompromised adults. RSV contains multiple structural and non-structural proteins with two major glycoproteins that control the initial phase of infection, fusion glycoprotein and the attachment (G) glycoprotein. G protein attaches to the ciliated cells of airways initiating the infection. The hypervariable G protein plays a vital role in evolution of RSV strains. We employed multiple bioinformatics tools on systematically accessed large-scale data to evaluate mutations, evolutionary history, and phylodynamics of RSV. Mutational analysis of central conserved region (CCR) on G protein-coding sequences between 163 and 189 positions revealed frequent mutations at site 178 in human RSV (hRSV) A while arginine to glutamine substitutions at site 180 positions in hRSV B, remained prevalent from 2009 to 2014. Phylogenetic analysis indicates multiple signature mutations within G protein responsible for diversification of clades. The USA and China have highest number of surveillance records, followed by Kenya. Markov Chain Monte Carlo Bayesian skyline plot revealed that RSV A evolved steadily from 1990 to 2000, and rapidly between 2003 and 2005. Evolution of RSV B continued from 2003 to 2022, with a high evolution stage from 2016 to 2020. Throughout evolution, cysteine residues maintained their strict conserved states while CCR has an entropy value of 0.0039(±0.0005). This study concludes the notion that RSV G glycoprotein is continuously evolving while the CCR region of G protein maintains its conserved state providing an opportunity for CCR-specific monoclonal antibodys (mAbs) and inhibitors as potential candidates for immunoprophylaxis.

The whole temperature distribution of a turbine blade is an important information for heat transfer design for turbine, but it is very difficult and expensive to measure the whole temperature filed, especially for the internal points of a blade. It is necessary to reconstruct the whole temperature distribution by calculating reversely unknown parameters based on sparse temperature values on the blade surface. This paper proposes a new stacking model method for solving inverse heat transfer problems of boundary conditions and it can be applied to cope with multi-input and multi-output regression problems. In order to improve the prediction performance of the stacking model, the Random Forest Regression, the XGBoost Regression and the K-Nearest Neighbors Regression are selected as the base estimators, and the Linear Regression is selected as the meta estimator. An application example for an aero-engine turbine blade is modeled and solved, in which the boundary condition parameters of the exhaust flows are reversely calculated and temperature distributions of a turbine blade surface can be obtained. Numerical experiments have demonstrated that the stacking model outperforms individual base models. This research is of considerable significance to heat transfer design, experimental research and decision support for real-time remote monitoring of aero-engines.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has a poor prognosis, and the efficacy of current therapeutic strategies is extremely limited in advanced diseases. Our previous study reported that protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor epsilon (PTPRE) is a promoting factor in HCC progression. In this study, our objective was to evaluate the treatment effect of PTPRE inhibitors in different HCC preclinical models. Our results indicated that the PTPRE inhibitory compound 63 (Cpd-63) inhibited tumor cell proliferation, migration, and HCC organoid growth. Mechanism research revealed that Cpd-63 could inhibit the expression of MYC and MYC targets by inhibiting the activation of SRC. Additionally, we found that Cpd-63 could improve the response of sorafenib in HCC cells. In conclusion, we demonstrated that the PTPRE inhibitors represented a potential therapeutic agent for HCC management.

Abstract Sex difference has shown in the arthritis diseases in human population and animal models. We investigate how the sex and symmetry vary among mouse models with different genomic backgrounds. Disease data of sex and limbs accumulated in the past more than two decades from four unique populations of murine arthritis models were analyzed. They are (1) interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) deficient mice under Balb/c background (Balb/c KO); (2) Mice with collagen II induced arthritis under DBA/1 background; (3) Mice with collagen II induced arthritis under C57BL/6 (B6) background and (4) A F2 generation population created by Balb/c KO X DBA/1 KO. Our data shows that there is a great variation in sexual dimorphism for arthritis incidence and severity of arthritis in mice harboring specific genetic modifications. Abstract To evaluate the independent association of seasonal variation with GDM incidence in Tianjin, China, and to test whether there is an additive interaction between seasonal variation and pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) on GDM incidence. A population-based observational cohort study was conducted using the healthcare records data from Tianjin, China. Logistic regression was used to obtain odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Additive interaction between pre-pregnancy BMI groups and seasons was estimated by using relative excess risk due to interaction (RERI), attributable proportion due to interaction (AP), and synergy index (S). Among the 112,639 pregnant women, 20.8% developed GDM at 24–28 weeks of gestation. The multivariable adjusted ORs and 95% CIs were 1.00, 1.00 (0.96–1.05), 1.15 (1.09–1.20) and 1.22 (1.16–1.29) respectively based on seasons (spring, summer, autumn and winter). The process of identifying substation protection plates faces challenges due to the complex lighting factors that are often inadequately considered. Furthermore， connected domain adhesion during image segmentation tends to be overlooked. Consequently， a recognition method for substation protection plate that leverages HIS （hue， saturation， intensity） color characteristics and employs image processing techniques is introduced. Firstly， the images of the captured protection plate are preprocessed to correct the distortions； then， these images are segmented using HIS color characteristics. Secondly， morphological feature analysis is carried out on the connected domains； the boundary information within these domains is used to eliminate the signboards， and the limit corrosion algorithm is employed to separate the adhesive connected domains. Finally， the state of the protection plate is identified through the fusion of two key features： the boundary feature of the simple minimum bounding rectangle and the deflection angle feature of minimum area bounding rectangle. In a comparative test against the traditional RGB （red， green， blue） color segmentation method and a recognition method based on single aspect ratio， the results demonstrate a substantial improvement in the recognition rate. This method exhibits practical value for engineering applications.

Abstract Introduction Fifteen to 25% of patients with colorectal cancer have combined liver metastases at the time of diagnosis, whereas an additional 15 to 25% will develop liver metastases after curative resection of primary colorectal cancer, with the vast majority (80–90%) of liver metastases unresponsive to curative resection at first. Colorectal cancer liver metastasis is also the leading cause of death in patients with colorectal cancer. In recent years, several studies have demonstrated that intestinal flora, especially Fusobacterium nucleatum, plays a crucial role in the development of colorectal cancer liver metastasis, so we hypothesized that long-term metronidazole use could effectively reduce the incidence of postoperative liver metastasis in colorectal cancer patients. Methods/design This study is a prospective, single-centre, randomized, double-blind controlled study in which 300 patients will be randomly assigned to the test group or the control group in a 1:1 allocation ratio. The aim of this trial is to demonstrate that long-term oral antibiotics can effectively reduce the incidence of postoperative liver metastasis in patients with colorectal cancer. Ethics and dissemination Ethics approval was obtained from the Ethics Committee at the Chinese Ethics Committee of Registering Clinical Trials (ChiECRCT20210229). The results of this study will be disseminated at several research conferences and as published articles in peer-reviewed journals. Trial registration Chinese Clinical Trial Registry ChiCTR2100046201. Registered on July 05, 2021.

The primary objective of document-level event extraction is to extract relevant event information from lengthy texts. However, many existing methods for document-level event extraction fail to fully incorporate the contextual information that spans across sentences. To overcome this limitation, the present study proposes a document-level event extraction model called Integration Across Texts and Reciprocal Feedback (IATRF). The proposed model constructs a heterogeneous graph and employs a graph convolutional network to enhance the connection between document and entity information. This approach facilitates the acquisition of semantic information enriched with document-level context. Additionally, a Transformer classifier is introduced to transform multiple event types into a multi-label classification task. To tackle the challenge of event argument recognition, this paper introduces the Reciprocal Feedback Argument Extraction strategy. Experimental results conducted on both our COSM dataset and the publicly available ChFinAnn dataset demonstrate that the proposed model outperforms previous methods in terms of F1 value, thus confirming its effectiveness. The IATRF model effectively solves the problems of long-distance document context-aware representation and cross-sentence argument dispersion.

Theasinensin A (TSA), a dimer of epigallocatechin gallate, has been preliminarily demonstrated to have hypoglycemia and anti-inflammatory effects. However, little information is available on its potential mechanisms of anti-diabetes. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the influence of TSA on glucose and lipid metabolism and gut microbiota in high-fat-diet/streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice. As result, TSA improved polydipsia, polyphagia and impaired glucose tolerance of diabetic mice, declined the fasting blood glucose and hepatic triglyceride level, and enhanced the expression at mRNA level of insulin receptor substrate, phosphoinositide 3-kinase, protein kinase B and glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor (GLP-1R) in the diabetic liver. Moreover, TSA could restore the disorder of gut microbiota of diabetic mice. High-dose (100 mg/kg) TSA showed better beneficial effects from the blood biochemical parameters, hepatic function and gut microbiota. In general, high-dose TSA significantly modulated gut microbiota by increasing the relative abundance of Akkermansia and decreasing the relative abundances of Acetatifactor, Anaerotruncus, Pseudoflavonifactor, Oscillibacter and Clostridium clusters. The results indicated that TSA could exert an anti-diabetes effect in diabetic mice through restoring glucose homeostasis, declining hepatic steatosis, activating insulin and GLP-1 signaling pathways, and ameliorating gut microbiota dysbiosis.

Realizing automatic recognition of coal gangue content during the top coal caving process is an important goal of fully mechanized mining automation. The existing methods for automatic recognition of coal gangue content have problems such as low accuracy and real-time performance. The coal gangue mixture generated during the top coal caving process is a three-phase medium formed by coal, gangue, and air. The electrical parameters of each phase medium are different. The propagation features of electromagnetic waves are also different in different components of the mixed three-phase medium. There is a significant difference in the dielectric constant between coal blocks and gangue. By studying the electrical parameters of coal gangue mixtures with different gangue contents, new ideas and methods can be provided for automatic recognition of gangue content in top coal caving working faces. In order to explore the electrical differences of coal gangue mixtures with different gangue contents, a bidirectional peak-valley search algorithm based on the divide and conquer strategy is proposed. Based on this algorithm, a multiphase discrete random medium model of coal gangue is established. Based on the Maxwell equations and their constitutive relationship equations, the electromagnetic wave forward simulation of the established model is performed using the finite difference time domain method. The analysis shows that after improving the bidirectional peak-valley search algorithm based on the divide and conquer strategy, there is a clear phase interface between the coal, gangue, and air phases in the coal gangue multiphase discrete random medium model. Moreover, there is a greater degree of dispersion of each phase and no aggregation phenomenon. Therefore, the local medium can also reflect the overall electrical parameters, which can meet the requirements of the medium model for electromagnetic wave forward modeling. The forward simulation results indicate the following points. ① The frequency of the excitation signal will affect the amplitude of the transmitted wave. In the 12 GHz range, the higher the frequency of the excitation signal, the greater the amplitude of the transmitted wave. Low frequency will reduce the robustness of the signal, and the excitation frequency should be higher than 2 GHz. ② The gangue content of the coal gangue mixture is positively correlated with the overall equivalent dielectric constant of the medium. The higher the gangue content, the greater the propagation loss of the electromagnetic wave signal. The smaller the amplitude of the signal received by the receiving plane, the longer the time it takes for the electromagnetic wave signal to penetrate the medium. There is a significant difference between different gangue contents, which can be used as a basis for the gangue content recognition of fully mechanized top coal caving.

Abstract This paper presents a comprehensive assessment for the small‐signal voltage stability of voltage source converter (VSC)‐HVDC systems supplying industrial loads represented by the induction motors (IMs) and provides a stability enhancement control for the VSCs. First, the steady‐state voltage stability is analysed to seek the factors that affect the existence of the stable equilibrium point. Then, the small‐signal voltage stability analysis is performed based on the developed linear model. Eigenvalue analysis is carried out to capture the critical factors that induce instability phenomena correlative to the system voltage. It demonstrates that decreasing either the proportional gain K of the VSC's PI controller or the electrical distance between the VSC and IM is detrimental to voltage stability. Next, the enhancement control strategy is elaborated. It adopts virtual reactance and virtual admittance control for the VSC to improve the voltage control capability. Finally, the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed enhancement control are validated via time‐domain simulations in a multi‐IM system supplied by VSC‐HVDC.

Abstract HTO has proven to be a cost-effective surgical procedure in the treatment of KOA, but few investigations have studied radiological changes and clinical effectiveness of OWHTO in geriatric patients. 76 patients were recruited in this retrospective study. According to the age, patients were divided into two groups (≤ 60, Group “Young”; > 60, Group “Geriatric”). Demographic data, radiological imaging and postoperative complications were analyzed. Kellgren–Lawrence grade (K–L), weight-bearing line ratio (WBLR); posterior tibial slope angle (PTS); American knee score (AKS); Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC) and visual analog scale (VAS) were introduced to estimate the clinical outcome of OWHTO. There were 18 male and 58 female patients in the present study with a mean age of 58.5 ± 9.2 years (ranges from 40 to 82 years); the average age was 51.4 ± 4.1 years and 67.3 ± 4.9 years for group Y and G respectively, 44.7% and 31.5% patients were older than 60 and 65 years. BMI for the 76 patients was 26.6 ± 3.2 kg/m2, and geriatric patients were more likely accompanied by one or more comorbidities (70.6 vs. 45.2%). There were 34 and 42 patients in group Geriatric and group Young respectively, and no significant difference of MPTA, WBLR, PTS and WOMAC, VAS, AKS and ROM between the two group (P > 0.05) were found. After more than a two-year follow-up period, postoperative WBLR, AKS, WOMAC and VAS were much more desired than preoperative, and no significant difference of these variables between the young and geriatric group (P > 0.05), however, elderly patients were more likely to suffer from a longer bone union time. OWHTO can avoid geriatric patients from undergoing secondary knee surgery in the short term, however the survival rate of OWHTO in geriatric patients should be ultimately clarified by different studies.

Abstract Objective: To identify the optimal weight gain at the end of the second trimester. Design: This was a population-based cohort study from the antenatal care system in Tianjin, China. We calculated gestational weight gain (GWG) based on the weight measured in the first trimester and the end of the second trimester. Restricted cubic spline analysis was performed to model the possible non-linear relationships between GWG and adverse outcomes. The optimal GWG was defined as the value of the lowest risk. Non-inferiority margins and the shape of the spline curves identified the recommended ranges in Chinese-specific BMI categories. Setting: Tianjin Maternal and Child Health Cohort. Participants: Singleton pregnant women aged 18–45 years. Results: In total, 69 859 pregnant women were included. Adverse outcome (including stillbirth, preterm birth, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, gestational diabetes mellitus, small and large for gestational age) was significantly associated with GWG at the end of the second trimester. The risk score was non-linearly correlated with GWG in the underweight, normal weight and overweight groups. GWG at the end of the second trimester should not be < 7 kg in underweight group. For most normal-weight women, a GWG of about 8 kg is optimal. Pregnant women who are overweight should not have a GWG of more than 9 kg. We advised women with overweight and obesity to keep positive growth of GWG (> 0 kg) in the first and second trimesters. Conclusions: According to the comprehensive adverse maternal and infant outcomes, we recommend the optimal GWG at the end of the second trimester. This study may provide a considerable reference for weight management.

In this study, a multilevel drought-induced resistance and resilience analysis (MDRRA) approach was developed to investigate the stability of vegetation in the Yellow River Basin (YRB). MDRRA was quantified by utilizing the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). It was applied to YRB to assess vegetation resistance and resilience to various levels of drought by utilizing precipitation and NDVI data from 2000 to 2019. The results reveal that vegetation resistance and resilience in YRB are affected by drought severity. Monthly and annual changes in SPI over the warm–temperate humid zone of the YRB show a decreasing trend, with rates of 0.001 per decade and 0.034 per decade, respectively; however, the other climatic subregions exhibit an increasing trend, with rates ranging from 0.002 per decade to 0.82 per decade. Over 77.56% of the downstream areas show increases in the annual SPI averages. Drought severity differs across subregions in the YRB. More severe drought events occur in its upper and middle reaches, while less severe ones happen in its lower reaches. As the drought severity increases, the arid and semiarid regions of the mesothermal zone exhibit a decrease in the resistance and resilience indices. MDRRA can help improve the stability and resilience of the ecosystem in the YRB.

The bird’s-eye view (BEV) method, which is a vision-centric representation-based perception task, is essential and promising for future Autonomous Vehicle perception. It has advantages of fusion-friendly, intuitive, end-to-end optimization and is cheaper than LiDAR. The performance of existing BEV methods, however, would be deteriorated under the situation of a tire blow-out. This is because they quite rely on accurate camera calibration which may be disabled by noisy camera parameters during blow-out. Therefore, it is extremely unsafe to use existing BEV methods in the tire blow-out situation. In this paper, we propose a geometry-guided auto-resizable kernel transformer (GARKT) method, which is designed especially for vehicles with tire blow-out. Specifically, we establish a camera deviation model for vehicles with tire blow-out. Then we use the geometric priors to attain the prior position in perspective view with auto-resizable kernels. The resizable perception areas are encoded and flattened to generate BEV representation. GARKT predicts the nuScenes detection score (NDS) with a value of 0.439 on a newly created blow-out dataset based on nuScenes. NDS can still obtain 0.431 when the tire is completely flat, which is much more robust compared to other transformer-based BEV methods. Moreover, the GARKT method has almost real-time computing speed, with about 20.5 fps on one GPU.

The cultivation of microalgae from municipal wastewater, while simultaneously removing nutrients from the water column, has the potential to aid biodiesel production and carbon dioxide fixation, thereby alleviating the pressure of energy shortages. In this research, different ratios of sodium bicarbonate and glucose were used to prepare simulated municipal wastewater. The results demonstrated that microalgae were most effectively treated under one-stage direct treatment conditions. During direct culture, the most effective treatment was observed for IAA-3, which exhibited a dry weight of 1.4363 g/L and a lipid content of 25.05% after stimulation with 0.0005 M NaHCO3. In contrast, NaHCO3-2 demonstrated optimal performance during the secondary culture, with a dry weight of 1.6844 g/L and a lipid content of 18.05%. Finally, the economic, social and environmental benefits of direct treatment (IAA-3) and secondary treatment NaHCO3-2 were analyzed. The benefits of direct treatment were found to be USD 0.50989/L, while those of secondary treatment were USD 0.43172/L. For each tonne of municipal wastewater treated, the carbon sequestration benefits of IAA-3 during direct treatment and NaHCO3-2 during secondary treatment were USD 0.45645 and USD 0.85725, respectively.

Glypicans are closely associated with organ development and tumorigenesis in animals. Dally-like (Dlp), a membrane-bound glypican, plays pivotal roles in various biological processes in Drosophila. In this study, we observed that an excess of Dlp led to the malformation of legs, particularly affecting the distal part. Accordingly, the leg disc was shrunken and frequently exhibited aberrant morphology. In addition, elevated Dlp levels induced ectopic cell death with no apparent cell proliferation changes. Furthermore, Dlp overexpression in the posterior compartment significantly altered Wingless (Wg) distribution. We observed a marked expansion of Wg distribution within the posterior compartment, accompanied by a corresponding decrease in the anterior compartment. It appears that excess Dlp guides Wg to diffuse to cells with higher Dlp levels. In addition, the distal-less (dll) gene, which is crucial for leg patterning, was up-regulated significantly. Notably, dachshund (dac) and homothorax (hth) expression, also essential for leg patterning and development, only appeared to be negligibly affected. Based on these findings, we speculate that excess Dlp may contribute to malformations of the distal leg region of Drosophila, possibly through its influence on Wg distribution, dll expression and induced cell death. Our research advances the understanding of Dlp function in Drosophila leg development.

Abstract Introduction The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) updated the 95‐95‐95 targets for the HIV endgame in 2030. To achieve the first target in a timely manner, we investigate the optimized strategy of resource allocation to maximize timely HIV diagnosis in 14 populations in China. Methods We developed a mathematical model by integrating epidemiological, demographical and behavioural data from 12 high‐risk and two general populations to evaluate the impact of various resource allocation strategies of HIV testing on HIV incidence in China. We identified the optimized allocation strategy that maximizes the number of HIV diagnoses at an estimated total spending on HIV tests in China and calculated the per‐capita cost of new HIV case detection. Results We estimated that 144,795 new HIV cases may occur annually in 14 populations in China, with a total annual spending of US$2.8 billion on HIV testing. The largest proportion of spending was allocated to general males (44.0%), followed by general females (42.6%) and pregnant women (5.1%). Despite this allocation strategy, only 45.5% (65,867/144,795, timely diagnosis rate) of annual new infections were diagnosed within a year of acquisition, with a cost of $42,852 required for each new HIV case detection. By optimizing the allocation of HIV testing resources within the same spending amount, we found that general females received the highest proportion of spending allocation (45.1%), followed by low‐risk men who have sex with men (13.9%) and pregnant women (8.4%). In contrast, the proportion of spending allocation for the general males decreased to 0.2%. With this optimized strategy, we estimated that 120,755 (83.4%) of annual new infections would be diagnosed within a year of acquisition, with the cost required for one HIV case detection reduced to $23,364/case. Further spending increases could allow for significant increases in HIV testing among lower‐risk populations. Conclusions Optimizing resource allocation for HIV testing in high‐risk populations would improve HIV timely diagnosis rate of new infections and reduce cost per HIV case detection.

Objective: The accurate detection of phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) autoantibody is crucial in the diagnosis and monitoring of primary membranous nephropathy (pMN). While enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is the commonly used detection method, its complexity and time-consuming nature pose challenges, especially for small sample sizes. Chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA) has emerged as a rapid alternative for clinical immunoassays. This study aims to compare the sensitivity, specificity, and precision of CLIA and ELISA in detecting PLA2R autoantibody. Method: A total of 145 patients with biopsy-confirmed primary membranous nephropathy and 85 patients with non-membranous nephropathy were enrolled in this comparative study. CLIA and ELISA were employed to test all samples for the presence of PLA2R autoantibodies. Statistical analysis of sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) was performed using SPSS 26.0. The diagnostic value of ELISA and CLIA for pMN was analyzed using the ROC curve, and Correlation analysis was performed using Spearman. Results: Serum levels of anti-PLA2R antibody in pMN group were significantly higher than those in nMN group(P 0.05). The overall qualitative agreement of anti-PLA2R detection was 93.35% (95% confidence interval[CI] 89.47–96.3). ROC curve analysis showed that AUC of anti-PLA2R antibody detected by ELISA and CLIA were 0.8737 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.8270–0.9204), 0.8914 (95% confidence interval [CI]0.8495–0.9332), respectively. BackgroundThe omission of axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) or axillary radiation (AxRT) remains controversial in patients with clinical node-negative early breast cancer and a positive sentinel lymph node.MethodsWe conducted a comprehensive review by searching PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases (up to November 2023). Our primary outcomes were overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), locoregional recurrence (LRR), and axillary recurrence (AR).ResultsWe included 26 studies encompassing 145,548 women with clinical node-negative early breast cancer and positive sentinel lymph node. Pooled data revealed no significant differences between ALND and sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) alone in terms of OS (hazard ratio [HR]0.99, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.91-1.08, p=0.84), DFS (HR 1.04, 95% CI 0.90-1.19, p=0.61), LRR (HR 0.76, 95% CI 0.45-1.20, p=0.31), and AR (HR 1.01, 95% CI 0.99-1.03, p=0.35). Similarly, no significant differences were observed between AxRT and SLNB alone for OS (HR 0.57, 95% CI 0.32-1.02, p=0.06) and DFS (HR 0.52, 95% CI 0.26-1.05, p=0.07). When comparing AxRT and ALND, a trend towards higher OS was observed the AxRT group (HR 0.08, 95% CI 0.67-1.15), but the difference did not reach statistical significance (p=0.35, I2 = 0%). Additionally, no significant differences significance observed for DFS or AR (p=0.13 and p=0.73, respectively) between the AxRT and ALND groups.ConclusionOur findings suggest that survival and recurrence rates are not inferior in patients with clinical node-negative early breast cancer and a positive sentinel lymph node who receive SLNB alone compared to those undergoing ALND or AxRT.

Applying electromagnetic waves to coal rock recognition can effectively improve the resolution capability of coal rock interfaces. Based on the coal rock interface model, the principle of using electromagnetic wave technology for coal rock recognition is explained. The paper introduces six methods for coal rock recognition, including γ–ray method, radar detection method, Terahertz signal method, electron resonance method, X-ray method, and infrared thermal imaging method. The principles of each method are analyzed, and the advantages and disadvantages of each method are compared as well as their applicability in coal mines underground. The research status of each method is analyzed in combination with practical industrial applications. The γ–ray method has significant advantages in detection distance, but it has radiation problems. It is basically eliminated. The radar detection method has the advantage of accurate recognition, but due to its severe signal attenuation and short detection distance, it is currently generally used for thickness measurement in thin coal seams. The Terahertz signal method has a short detection distance and can only be applied when the composition of the underground environment is stable. The electronic resonance method has severe signal attenuation, short detection distance, and high difficulty. It is currently basically abandoned in mines. The X-ray method has strong penetration and clear imaging, but it poses great harm. In the infrared thermal imaging method, the active infrared excitation method requires a lot of time to excite coal and rock, and there are significant safety hazards in high gas mine environments. Although the cutting flash temperature method takes a short time, it is difficult to achieve effective coal rock recognition for situations with multiple cutting teeth and complex layout. It is pointed out that the accuracy of electromagnetic wave coal rock recognition is determined by the echo information of electromagnetic waves, and further in-depth exploration should be carried out.

Abstract Background Chinese nurses working with immense stress may have issues with burnout during COVID-19 regular prevention and control. There were a few studies investigating status of burnout and associated factors among Chinese nurses. However, the relationships remained unclear. Objectives To investigate status and associated factors of nurses’ burnout during COVID-19 regular prevention and control. Methods 784 nurses completed questionnaires including demographics, Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7, Patient Health Questionnaire-9, Insomnia Severity Index, Impact of Event Scale-revised, Perceived Social Support Scale, Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale, General Self-efficacy Scale and Maslach Burnout Inventory. Results 310 (39.5%), 393 (50.1%) and 576 (73.5%) of respondents were at high risk of emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalization (DP) and reduced personal accomplishment (PA). The risk of EE, DP and reduced PA were moderate, high and high. Nurses with intermediate and senior professional rank and title and worked >40 h every week had lower scores in EE. Those worked in low-risk department reported lower scores in PA. Anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), self-efficacy and social support were influencing factors of EE and DP, while social support and resilience were associated factors of PA. Conclusion Chinese nurses’ burnout during COVID-19 regular prevention and control was serious. Professional rank and title, working unit, weekly working hours, anxiety, PTSD, self-efficacy, social support and resilience were associated factors of burnout.
