Efficient coal mining is essential for ensuring China’s energy security, and the advancement toward intelligent coal mining represents a strategic move to foster high-quality development within the coal industry. The cornerstone of realizing intelligent coal mines lies in underground space positioning technology. Accurate positioning is crucial not only for safeguarding miner safety but also for optimizing mining operations, improving equipment utilization and minimizing operational costs. The unique challenges of underground mining, such as the absence of satellite navigation signals, restricted and confined operating environments, and harsh electromagnetic and lighting conditions, place new requirements on positioning techniques. This paper focuses on the localization issues specific to underground coal mines, offering a systematic overview of four fundamental localization techniques: range intersection, database matching, dead reckoning, and multisource information fusion. Range intersection determines location by utilizing distance measurements obtained through various methods. Database matching employs online measurements to match against characteristics stored in a database. Dead reckoning calculates the current location by integrating measurements over time. Lastly, multisource information fusion enhances positioning accuracy by combining data from multiple sources. The paper further reviews detailed implementation schemes of these four positioning technologies in coal mines, highlighting typical sensors or systems and summarizing current research developments. For range intersection methods, methods such as visible light, ultrasonic, wireless local area network, bluetooth, ultra-wideband, and infrared positioning are examined. Database matching positioning methods include geomagnetic, gravity, and radio fingerprint positioning systems. Dead reckoning techniques cover inertial navigation, pedestrian navigation, and odometers, while multisource information fusion focuses on integrated navigation and simultaneous localization and mapping. Moreover, the paper identifies key challenges confronting underground positioning systems in coal mines. These challenges encompass the increasing inaccuracies in absolute localization methods, difficulties in correcting dead reckoning localizations, performance declines in multisource fusion localization methods, and the absence of comprehensive standardization. Given the complex environment of coal mines, there is still much room for improving the accuracy and reliability of underground positioning. To address these challenges, this paper proposes several avenues for improvement. Enhancing the performance of the positioning systems might involve fostering collaboration across multiple systems, incorporating brain-inspired navigation to explore new localization solutions, and strengthening seamless and emergency localization capabilities. Furthermore, in today’s interconnected intelligent age, the privacy and security aspects of positioning systems warrant careful consideration.

Abstract Ovarian cancer (OC) is one of the most prevalent and lethal gynecological malignancies, with high mortality primarily due to its aggressive nature, frequent metastasis, and resistance to standard therapies. Recent research has highlighted the critical role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) in these processes. EVs, secreted by living organisms and carrying versatile and bioactive cargoes, play a vital role in intercellular communication. Functionally, the transfer of cargoes orchestrates multiple processes that actively affect not only the primary tumor but also local and distant pre-metastatic niche. Furthermore, their unique biological properties position EVs as novel therapeutic targets and promising drug delivery systems, with potential profound implications for cancer patients. This review summarizes recent progress in EV biology, delving into the intricate mechanisms by which EVs contribute to OC metastasis and drug resistance. It also explores the latest advances and therapeutic potential of EVs in the clinical context of OC. Despite the progress made, EV research in OC remains in its nascent stages. Consequently, this review presents existing research limitations and suggests avenues for future investigation. Altogether, the review aims to elucidate the critical roles of EVs in OC and spotlight their promising potential in this field.

Abstract Background The pathogenesis of intermittent exotropia (IXT) remains unclear. The study aims to investigate alterations of resting-state networks (RSNs) in IXT adult patients using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) data to explore the potential neural mechanisms. Methods Twenty-six IXT adult patients and 22 age-, sex-, handedness-, and education-matched healthy controls (HCs) underwent fMRI scanning and ophthalmological examinations. Brain areas with significant functional connectivity (FC) differences between the IXT and HC groups were selected as regions of interest (ROI) and mean z-scores were calculated to control for individual differences. Results Compared with HCs, IXT patients exhibited altered FC in various brain regions within RSNs involved in binocular fusion, stereopsis, ocular movement, emotional processes and social cognition, including the default mode network (DMN), the dorsal attention network (DAN), the visual network (VN), the sensorimotor network (SMN), the executive control network (ECN), the frontoparietal network (FPN) and the auditory network (AN). The degree of exodeviation was positively correlated with FC value of left middle occipital gyrus (MOG) within the VN. Considering the electromagnetic interference signal in non-cooperative communication, an automatic modulation identification and detection system of electromagnetic interference signal based on software defined radio is proposed. Based on GNU Radio 3.10.7.0 and HackRF One B210mini, the system estimates the frequency and symbol rate of the interference signal and completes clock synchronization and matching filtering under the condition of unknown a priori information. By extracting high-order cumulants as characteristic parameters, combined with the decision tree classifier, the classification and recognition of six modulation types of interference signals and signal phase correction are realized. This method can distinguish the recognition results in combination with the signal constellation, and complete the real-time reception and recognition of interference signals.

Abstract Most existing scene classification methods based on remote sensing images tend to ignore important interactive information at different levels in the image. We propose an effective remote sensing scene classification method named multi-scale dense residual correlation network. The method is divided into three parts. First, the multi-stream feature extraction module is introduced which effectively utilizes features at different scales to extract different levels of information. Secondly, the dense residual connected feature fusion technology is proposed, which allows for a wide range of feature fusion. The Correlation Attention Module learn feature representations at multiple levels. This improves classification performance. The method outperforms existing algorithms in terms of effectiveness and accuracy, achieving state-of-the-art results on widely used remote sensing scene classification benchmarks.

AIM: To investigate the biocompatibility and bacterial adhesion properties of light responsive materials (LRM) and analyze the feasibility and biosafety of employing LRM in the preparation of accommodative intraocular lenses (AIOLs). METHODS: Employing fundamental experimental research techniques, LRM with human lens epithelial cells (hLECs) and human retinal pigment epithelium cells (ARPE-19 cells) were co-cultured. Commercially available intraocular lenses (IOLs) were used as controls to perform cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8), cell staining under varying light intensities, cell adhesion and bacterial adhesion experiments. Abstract Background Seed amplification assays (SAA) enable the amplification of pathological misfolded proteins, including α-synuclein (αSyn), in both tissue homogenates and body fluids of Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients. SAA involves repeated cycles of shaking or sonication coupled with incubation periods. However, this amplification scheme has limitations in tracking protein propagation due to repeated fragmentation. Methods We introduced a modified form of SAA, known as Quiescent SAA (QSAA), and evaluated biopsy and autopsy samples from individuals clinically diagnosed with PD and those without synucleinopathies (control group). Brain biopsy samples were obtained from 14 PD patients and 6 controls without synucleinopathies. Additionally, skin samples were collected from 214 PD patients and 208 control subjects. Data were analyzed from April 2019 to May 2023. Results QSAA successfully amplified αSyn aggregates in brain tissue sections from mice inoculated with pre-formed fibrils. In the skin samples from 214 PD cases and 208 non-PD cases, QSAA demonstrated high sensitivity (90.2%) and specificity (91.4%) in differentiating between PD and non-PD cases. Notably, more αSyn aggregates were detected by QSAA compared to immunofluorescence with the pS129-αSyn antibody in consecutive slices of both brain and skin samples. Conclusion We introduced the new QSAA method tailored for in situ amplification of αSyn aggregates in brain and skin samples while maintaining tissue integrity, providing a streamlined approach to diagnosing PD with individual variability. The integration of seeding activities with the location of deposition of αSyn seeds advances our understanding of the mechanism underlying αSyn misfolding in PD.

Abstract Background To assess the clinical effects of hybrid surgery, which includes spinal angiography-assisted microsurgery, in the treatment of spinal dural arteriovenous fistulas (SDAVF). Methods We retrospectively reviewed 45 patients who underwent hybrid Spinal dural arteriovenous fistula (SDAVF) resection between September 2019 and June 2022. The hybrid surgery involved intraoperative digital subtraction angiography (DSA) of the spinal vessels to determine the source of the blood-supplying artery, location of the fistula and draining vein, indocyanine green fluorescence (ICG)-assisted microsurgical resection of the fistula, and postoperative DSA to verify therapeutic efficacy. The Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA), Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD), Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Barthel score, modified Rankin Scale (mRS) and modified Aminoff-Logue score (key indicator) were used to assess the clinical effects of SDAVF resection. Results A series of 45 patients with SDAVF were successfully treated with hybrid surgery without fistula recurrence. There were no intraoperative complications related to spinal angiography, and none of the patients died. Postoperatively, two patients experienced clinical deterioration of spinal cord function, which manifested as bilateral lower extremity paralysis and bladder sphincter dysfunction. Postoperatively, improvement in mALS scores was observed in 16 cases (35.6%) within 1–2 days, 12 cases (26.7%) at 1 week, and 7 cases (15.6%) at 6 months. No SDAVF recurrence was detected in the spinal MRA examination 6 months after surgery. When compared with preoperative mALS scores, 35 cases (77.8%) showed significant improvement in symptoms, 8 cases (17.8%), remained unchanged, and 2 cases (4.4%) deteriorated. Compared with the preoperative scores, the postoperative mALS score was significantly decreased [postoperative vs. preoperative: 2(1,3) vs. 3(2,4)], HAMD score [(12.2 ± 5.5) vs. (19.6 ± 6.3)], HAMA score [(15.6 ± 5.5) vs. (20.5 ± 6.5)], and VAS score [3(2,5) vs. 5(4,8)]. Conversely, Barthel scoresshowed significant increase [(74.6 ± 8.7) vs. (67.8 ± 9.2)] (P 0.05). There was a significant increase in “good” neurological outcomes at follow-up compared with preoperative function (62.2% vs. 33.3%) (P = 0.023). Conclusion Hybrid surgery is a safe and effective treatment for patients with SAVF, which is beneficial for improving anxiety, depression, spinal cord, and neurological function, and relieving pain. However, the treatment of patients with SDAVF is a complex, long-term process requiring further multidisciplinary interventions, including clinical care, psychosocial interventions, and neurorehabilitation.

Abstract Objectives Ants are ecologically dominant insects in most terrestrial ecosystems, with more than 14,000 extant species in about 340 genera recorded to date. However, genomic resources are still scarce for most species, especially for species endemic in East or Southeast Asia, limiting the study of phylogeny, speciation and adaptation of this evolutionarily successful animal lineage. Here, we assemble and annotate the genomes of Odontoponera transversa and Camponotus friedae, two ant species with a natural distribution in China, to facilitate future study of ant evolution. Data description We obtained a total of 16 Gb and 51 Gb PacBio HiFi data for O. transversa and C. friedae, respectively, which were assembled into the draft genomes of 339 Mb for O. transversa and 233 Mb for C. friedae. Genome assessments by multiple metrics showed good completeness and high accuracy of the two assemblies. Gene annotations assisted by RNA-seq data yielded a comparable number of protein-coding genes in the two genomes (10,892 for O. transversa and 11,296 for C. friedae), while repeat annotations revealed a remarkable difference of repeat content between these two ant species (149.4 Mb for O. transversa versus 49.7 Mb for C. friedae). Besides, complete mitochondrial genomes for the two species were assembled and annotated.

Abstract Background The progression of osteoporosis (OP) can dramatically increase the risk of fractures, which seriously disturb the life of elderly individuals. Specific protein 1 (SP1) is involved in OP progression. However, the mechanism by which SP1 regulates OP progression remains unclear. Objective This study investigated the mechanism underlying the function of SP1 in OP. Methods SAMP6 mice were used to establish an in vivo model of age-dependent OP, and BALB/c mice were used as controls. BMSCs were extracted from two subtypes of mice. Hematoxylin and eosin staining were performed to mark the intramedullary trabecular bone structure to evaluate histological changes. ChIP assay was used to assess the targeted regulation between SP1 and miR-133a-3p. The binding sites between MAPK3 and miR-133a-3p were verified using a dual-luciferase reporter assay. The mRNA levels of miR-133a-3p and MAPK3 were detected using quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). The protein expression of SP1, MAPK3, Colla1, OCN, and Runx2 was examined using Western blotting. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) kit and Alizarin Red S staining were used to investigate ALP activity and mineralized nodules, respectively. Results The levels of SP1 and miR-133a-3p were upregulated, whereas the expression of MAPK3 was downregulated in BMSCs from SAMP6 mice, and miR-133a-3p inhibitor accelerated osteogenic differentiation in BMSCs. SP1 directly targeted miR-133a-3p, and MAPK3 was the downstream mRNA of miR-133a-3p. Mechanically, SP1 accelerated osteogenic differentiation in BMSCs via transcriptional mediation of the miR-133a-3p/MAPK3 axis. Conclusion SP1 regulates osteogenic differentiation by mediating the miR-133a-3p/MAPK3 axis, which would shed new light on strategies for treating senile OP.

Abstract The seeding amplification assay (SAA) has recently emerged as a valuable tool for detecting α-synuclein (αSyn) aggregates in various clinically accessible biospecimens. Despite its efficiency and specificity, optimal tissue-specific conditions for distinguishing Parkinson’s disease (PD) from non-PD outside the brain remain underexplored. This study systematically evaluated 150 reaction conditions to identify the one with the highest discriminatory potential between PD and non-synucleinopathy controls using skin samples, resulting in a modified SAA. The streamlined SAA achieved an overall sensitivity of 92.46% and specificity of 93.33% on biopsy skin samples from 332 PD patients and 285 controls within 24 h. Inter-laboratory reproducibility demonstrated a Cohen’s kappa value of 0.87 (95% CI 0.69–1.00), indicating nearly perfect agreement. Additionally, αSyn seeds in the skin were stable at −80 °C but were vulnerable to short-term exposure to non-ultra-low temperatures and grinding. This study thoroughly investigated procedures for sample preprocessing, seed amplification, and storage, introducing a well-structured experimental framework for PD diagnosis using skin samples.

Abstract Purpose Symptom assessment based on patient-reported outcome (PRO) can correlate with disease severity, making it a potential tool for threshold alerts of postoperative complications. This study aimed to determine whether shortness of breath (SOB) scores on the day of discharge could predict the development of post-discharge complications in patients who underwent lung cancer surgery. Methods Patients were from a study of a dynamic perioperative rehabilitation cohort of lung cancer patients focusing on patient-reported outcomes. Patients were assessed using the Perioperative Symptom Assessment Scale for Lung surgery (PSA-Lung). Logistic regression model was used to examine the potential association between SOB on the day of discharge and complications within 3 months after discharge. The post-discharge complications were taken as the anchor variable to determine the optimal cutpoint for SOB on the day of discharge. Abstract While EZH2 enzymatic activity is well-known, emerging evidence suggests that EZH2 can exert functions in a methyltransferase-independent manner. In this study, we have uncovered a novel mechanism by which EZH2 positively regulates the expression of SKP2, a critical protein involved in cell cycle progression. We demonstrate that depletion of EZH2 significantly reduces SKP2 protein levels in several cell types, while treatment with EPZ-6438, an EZH2 enzymatic inhibitor, has no effect on SKP2 protein levels. Consistently, EZH2 depletion leads to cell cycle arrest, accompanied by elevated expression of CIP/KIP family proteins, including p21, p27, and p57, whereas EPZ-6438 treatment does not modulate their levels. We also provide evidence that EZH2 knockdown, but not enzymatic inhibition, suppresses SKP2 mRNA expression, underscoring the transcriptional regulation of SKP2 by EZH2 in a methyltransferase-independent manner. Supporting this, analysis of the Cancer Genome Atlas database reveals a close association between EZH2 and SKP2 expression in human malignancies. Moreover, EZH2 depletion but not enzymatic inhibition positively regulates the expression of major epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) regulators, such as ZEB1 and SNAIL1, in transformed cells. Our findings shed light on a novel mechanism by which EZH2 exerts regulatory effects on cell proliferation and differentiation through its methyltransferase-independent function, specifically by modulating SKP2 expression.

Abstract Background Obesity is characterized by excessive fat accumulation in the body. Physical activity (PA) is an effective intervention to combat obesity, but the effectiveness of different PA patterns on controlling obesity is unclear. Lipid accumulation product (LAP), derived from waist circumference and triglycerides, is a novel indicator for obesity evaluation. However, the association between PA patterns (i.e., weekend warriors and regularly active) and LAP remains unexplored. This study aims to elucidate the relationship between PA patterns and LAP in US adult population. Methods Adult individuals with complete data on LAP, PA patterns, and other covariates from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database (2007–2018) were included in this study. Multivariate linear regression models were utilized to explore the association between PA patterns and LAP. Subgroup analyses, interaction tests, restricted cubic spline (RCS) regression analyses, and threshold and saturation effect analyses were also performed to investigate the stability and nonlinearity of PA-LAP association, respectively. Abstract Metastasis remains the principal cause of cancer-related lethality despite advancements in cancer treatment. Dysfunctional epigenetic alterations are crucial in the metastatic cascade. Among these, super-enhancers (SEs), emerging as new epigenetic regulators, consist of large clusters of regulatory elements that drive the high-level expression of genes essential for the oncogenic process, upon which cancer cells develop a profound dependency. These SE-driven oncogenes play an important role in regulating various facets of metastasis, including the promotion of tumor proliferation in primary and distal metastatic organs, facilitating cellular migration and invasion into the vasculature, triggering epithelial-mesenchymal transition, enhancing cancer stem cell-like properties, circumventing immune detection, and adapting to the heterogeneity of metastatic niches. This heavy reliance on SE-mediated transcription delineates a vulnerable target for therapeutic intervention in cancer cells. In this article, we review current insights into the characteristics, identification methodologies, formation, and activation mechanisms of SEs. We also elaborate the oncogenic roles and regulatory functions of SEs in the context of cancer metastasis. Ultimately, we discuss the potential of SEs as novel therapeutic targets and their implications in clinical oncology, offering insights into future directions for innovative cancer treatment strategies.

ObjectivesTo evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of the quantitative flow ratio (QFR) for hemodynamic exploration of intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis, using the invasive cerebrovascular pressure ratio (CVPR) and resting full-cycle ratio (RFR) as reference standards.Materials and methodsPatients with symptomatic unifocal intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis were included. The CVPR was defined as the ratio of the proximal and distal pressures. All patients underwent angioplasty under general anesthesia. The QFR was calculated based on digital subtraction angiography. Using the CVPR as a reference, we compared its correlation with the QFR across different degrees and locations of stenosis.ResultsThe CVPR and QFR were measured in 34 vessels of 32 patients. Thermoelectric materials’ unique merits attract considerable attention. Among those merits, the straight transformation between heat and electricity makes this material potential. The energy of the human body is released in the form of heat, which can be transformed into effective electricity by wearable thermoelectric materials. The nanotechnology‐based materials improve thermoelectric properties and heat absorption abilities for nanostructures will help maintain good electrical conductivity and reduce thermal conductivity. Poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) is extensively investigated for its high conductivity, flexibility, good transparency, and so on. This article reviews its mechanism and describes the preparation techniques and thermoelectric properties of nanotechnology‐based PEDOT, inorganic semiconductor composite, and low‐dimensional metal composite thermoelectric materials. The recent research progress on PEDOT‐based thermoelectric materials, the application of wearable low‐dimensional PEDOT‐based thermoelectric materials, and methods to improve the thermoelectric performance of PEDOT‐based composite materials, device design, and commercialization are specifically discussed.

Chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T)-cell therapy targeting B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA) is currently one of the promising treatment methods for relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (MM). Herein, this study is a case report on a 41-year-old male patient with MM. Unfortunately, he still developed multidrug-resistant, refractory, and bone marrow suppression after receiving multiline high-intensity chemotherapy. After a detailed evaluation, the physician recommended autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (ASCT) support, followed by sequential immunotherapy with autologous anti- BCMA CAR-T cells. The CAR-T product is a novel anti-BCMA CAR-T based on Retrovirus vectors (RV). It was worth noting that the patient achieved VGPR (very good partial remission) one month after infusion of anti-BCMA CAR-T cells. Recent tests have found that the M protein was no longer detectable and the patient has achieved CR (complete response). Although grade 3 cytokine release syndrome (CRS) appeared, the symptom was well controlled and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS) did not occur. This was the first case report of RV prepared anti-BCMA CAR-T cells combined with ASCT for the treatment of MM patient in clinical practice, indicating that the RV-based anti-BCMA-CAR-T cells with ASCT have excellent therapeutic efficacy and high safety in triple-refractory MM patients.

Gas-phase PbMg n− (n = 2–12) cluster structures were globally searched on their potential energy surfaces by means of the CALYPSO prediction software. Structural optimization and calculations of properties such as relative energy and electronic structure were then carried out by density functional theory for each size of low energy isomer. The structural, relative stability, natural charge population, natural electronic configuration and distribution of the strongest peaks of the infrared and Raman spectra of the low energy isomers of PbMg n− (n = 2–12) clusters were systematically investigated in the present work. It was shown that the PbMg7− cluster ground state isomer exhibits the highest stability, for which special electronic excitation and chemical bonding analyses were performed. It is reasonable to believe that this work enriches the structural, spectroscopic and other data of magnesium-based clusters and provides some theoretical basis for possible future experimental syntheses.

The global renewable energy portfolio is experiencing a growing proportion of shipboard photovoltaic (PV) energy. Grid-connected system has become the development trend of photovoltaic power generation technology in marine applications because of its high energy utilization efficiency. However, in the grid-connected process, harmonic pollution is easily caused by time-varying marine environment disturbance, which affects the quality of grid-connected power. The current recurrent neural network Levenberg-Marquardt backpropagation (CRNN-LM-BP) method, a control methodology, is introduced in this paper to ensure the robustness, stability, and consistency of the system. In addition, the inductance-capacitance-inductance (LCL) filter is optimized using particle swarm optimization (PSO) to minimize the presence of high frequency harmonics. The system that has been developed possesses the ability to improve the accuracy of steady-state control, operate with high efficiency and effectiveness, and maintain a total harmonic distortion of 1.73 %. Concurrently, streamlining the Jacobian matrix in the LM algorithm expedites convergence. It enables the system to improve its dynamic response, minimize excess, and quickly return to a stable condition when faced with load variations, a wide range of filter parameter adjustments, and voltage fluctuations. The suggested method’s effectiveness and applicability are evaluated by comparing it to the traditional proportional-resonant control, CRNN-BP control, using Matlab/Simulink and the real-time simulator OPAL-RT5700..

Integrating large-scale renewable energy sources in modern power systems has altered fault characteristics, resulting in the performance degradation of conventional current differential protection. This paper proposes a novel high-sensitivity time-domain current differential protection scheme. The proposed scheme utilizes the Bergeron model to eliminate the impact of the distributed capacitive current. Furthermore, the Bergeron model error is analyzed theoretically during normal operation, and an algorithm is designed to identify and adjust the α- and β-mode line parameters. Additionally, novel internal fault criteria are presented to mitigate the negative impact of the 0-mode line parameter error. Compared to traditional frequency-domain approaches, the proposed method can more accurately and rapidly distinguish internal and external faults, while reducing the dependency on precise line parameters. Eventually, a VSC-HVDC sending-end grid model consisting of 100% renewable power generations is established using PSCAD/EMTDC software. Simulation results confirm that the proposed protection scheme exhibits exceptional performance in terms of operating speed, sensitivity, and tolerance to fault resistance and noise.

The capacity of conventional overhead transmission lines (OTL) has been exceeded by the energy consumption of Cambodia's flourishing cities. Underground transmission lines (UTL) provide a unique solution due to their technical and environmental advantages. However, engineers must contend with high UTL costs and the need for effective conduit cable installation. This study presents a solution that automates the shortest route method for determining the optimal path for routing UTL power supply cables between any two substations. Multiple algorithms are evaluated to identify the most effective solution to this design's inherent shortest-path problem. Using Geographic Information System (GIS) data, potential UTL network routes in Phnom Penh, Cambodia can be investigated. The ultimate product is an automated route planning support tool that has the potential to revolutionize energy project planning by generating optimal routes for UTL. This will increase efficiency and lower costs, making UTL a more viable option for meeting the energy demands of modern infrastructure. This study contributes significantly to the field of energy infrastructure planning and has the potential to be replicated in cities around the world.

Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are important and energy-intensive municipal infrastructures. High energy consumption and relatively low operating performance are major challenges from the perspective of carbon neutrality. However, water–energy nexus analysis and models for WWTPs have rarely been reported to date. In this study, a cloud-model-based energy consumption analysis (CMECA) of a WWTP was conducted to explore the relationship between influent and energy consumption by clustering its influent’s parameters. The principal component analysis (PCA) and K-means clustering were applied to classify the influent condition using water quality and volume data. The energy consumption of the WWTP is divided into five standard evaluation levels, and its cloud digital characteristics (CDCs) were extracted according to bilateral constraints and golden ratio methods. Our results showed that the energy consumption distribution gradually dispersed and deviated from the Gaussian distribution with decreased water concentration and quantity. The days with high energy efficiency were extracted via the clustering method from the influent category of excessive energy consumption, represented by a compact-type energy consumption distribution curve to identify the influent conditions that affect the steady distribution of energy consumption. The local WWTP has high energy consumption with 0.3613 kW·h·m−3 despite low influent concentration and volumes, across four consumption levels from low (I) to relatively high (IV), showing an unsatisfactory operation and management level. The average oxygenation capacity, internal reflux ratio, and external reflux ratio during high energy efficiency days recognized by further clustering were obtained (0.2924–0.3703 kg O2·m−3, 1.9576–2.4787, and 0.6603–0.8361, respectively), which could be used as a guide for the days with low energy efficiency. Consequently, this study offers a water–energy nexus analysis method to identify influent conditions with operational management anomalies and can be used as an empirical reference for the optimized operation of WWTPs.

Abstract Cross-sectional studies have demonstrated strong associations between physical frailty and depression. However, the evidence from prospective studies is limited. Here, we analyze data of 352,277 participants from UK Biobank with 12.25-year follow-up. Compared with non-frail individuals, pre-frail and frail individuals have increased risk for incident depression independent of many putative confounds. Altogether, pre-frail and frail individuals account for 20.58% and 13.16% of depression cases by population attributable fraction analyses. Higher risks are observed in males and individuals younger than 65 years than their counterparts. Mendelian randomization analyses support a potential causal effect of frailty on depression. Associations are also observed between inflammatory markers, brain volumes, and incident depression. Moreover, these regional brain volumes and three inflammatory markers—C-reactive protein, neutrophils, and leukocytes—significantly mediate associations between frailty and depression. Given the scarcity of curative treatment for depression and the high disease burden, identifying potential modifiable risk factors of depression, such as frailty, is needed.

Abstract Background Analysis of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) offers valuable insights into distinguishing the effects of closely related medical procedures from the patient’s perspective. In this study we compared symptom burden in patients undergoing uniportal thoracoscopic segmentectomy and wedge resection for peripheral small-sized non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods This study included patients with peripheral NSCLC from an ongoing longitudinal prospective cohort study (CN-PRO-Lung 3) who underwent segmentectomy or wedge resection with tumor diameter ≤ 2 cm and consolidation tumor ratio (CTR) ≤ 0.5. PROs data were collected using the Perioperative Symptom Assessment for Lung Surgery questionnaire pre-operatively, daily post-surgery up to the fourth hospitalization day, and weekly post-discharge up to the fourth week. Propensity score matching and a generalized estimation equation model were employed to compare symptom severity. In addition, short-term clinical outcomes were compared. Results In total, data of 286 patients (82.4%) undergoing segmentectomy and 61 patients (17.6%) undergoing wedge resection were extracted from the cohort. No statistically significant differences were found in the proportion of moderate-to-severe symptoms and mean scores for pain, cough, shortness of breath, disturbed sleep, fatigue, drowsiness, and distress during the 4-day postoperative hospitalization or the 4-week post-discharge period before or after matching (all p > 0.05). Compared with segmentectomy, wedge resection showed better short-term clinical outcomes, including shorter operative time (p = 0.001), less intraoperative bleeding (p = 0.046), and lower total hospital costs (p = 0.002). Conclusions The study findings indicate that uniportal thoracoscopic segmentectomy and wedge resection exert similar early postoperative symptom burden in patients with peripheral NSCLC (tumor diameter ≤ 2 cm and CTR ≤ 0.5). Abstract Check dams on the Chinese Loess Plateau (CLP) have captured billions of tons of eroded sediment, substantially reducing sediment load in the Yellow River. However, uncertainties persist regarding the precise sediment capture and the role of these dams in Yellow River flow and sediment dynamics due to the lack of available spatial distribution datasets. We produced the first vectorized dataset of silted land formed by check dams on the CLP, combining high-resolution and easily accessible Google Earth images with object-based classification methods. The accuracy of the dataset was verified by 1947 collected test samples, and the producer’s accuracy and user’s accuracy of the dam lands were 88.9% and 99.5%, respectively. Our dataset not only provides fundamental information for accurately assessing the ecosystem service functions of check dams, but also helps to interpret current changes in sediment delivery of the Yellow River and plan future soil and water conservation projects.

Abstract Background Pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinoma (PSC) is a rare and highly malignant type of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), for which the treatment of choice is surgery. For peripheral PSC growing outward and invading the chest wall, a complete resection of the affected lung lobes and the invaded chest wall can improve long-term prognosis. However, when the extent of the resected chest wall is large, reconstruction is often required to reduce the risk of postoperative complications. Here, we present a case of PSC invading the chest wall treated with successful extended radical resection for lung cancer and chest wall reconstruction. Case presentation A 58-year-old male patient with a nodule in the right upper lobe that had been identified on physical examination 2 years before presentation presented to our hospital with a recent cough, expectoration, and chest pain. Imaging revealed a mass in the right upper lobe that had invaded the chest wall. Preoperative puncture pathology revealed poorly differentiated NSCLC. We performed extended radical resection for lung cancer under open surgery and reconstructed the chest wall using stainless steel wire and polypropylene meshes. The procedure was uneventful, and the patient was discharged 7 days postoperatively. Furthermore, the final pathology revealed PSC. Conclusions This case underscores the feasibility of surgical R0 resection in patients with PSC with chest wall invasion and no lymph node metastasis, potentially enhancing long-term outcomes. The novel aspect of this case lies in the individualized chest wall reconstruction for a large defect, using cost-effective materials that offered satisfactory structural support and postoperative recovery, thereby providing a valuable reference for similar future surgical interventions.

Abstract In concrete structures, surface cracks are an important indicator for assessing the durability and serviceability of the structure. Existing convolutional neural networks for concrete crack identification are inefficient and computationally costly. Therefore, a new Cross Swin transformer-skip (CSW-S) is proposed to classify concrete cracks. The method is optimized by adding residual links to the existing Cross Swin transformer network and then trained and tested using a dataset with 17,000 images. The experimental results show that the improved CSW-S network has an extended range of extracted image features, which improves the accuracy of crack recognition. A detection accuracy of 96.92% is obtained using the trained CSW-S without pretraining. The improved transformer model has higher recognition efficiency and accuracy than the traditional transformer model and the classical CNN model.

Abstract Background Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) shares common pathophysiological mechanisms with type 2 diabetes, making them significant risk factors for type 2 diabetes. The present study aimed to assess the epidemiological feature of type 2 diabetes in patients with NAFLD or MAFLD at global levels. Methods Published studies were searched for terms that included type 2 diabetes, and NAFLD or MAFLD using PubMed, EMBASE, MEDLINE, and Web of Science databases from their inception to December 2022. The pooled global and regional prevalence and incidence density of type 2 diabetes in patients with NAFLD or MAFLD were evaluated using random-effects meta-analysis. Potential sources of heterogeneity were investigated using stratified meta-analysis and meta-regression. Results A total of 395 studies (6,878,568 participants with NAFLD; 1,172,637 participants with MAFLD) from 40 countries or areas were included in the meta-analysis. The pooled prevalence of type 2 diabetes among NAFLD or MAFLD patients was 28.3% (95% confidence interval 25.2–31.6%) and 26.2% (23.9–28.6%) globally. The incidence density of type 2 diabetes in NAFLD or MAFLD patients was 24.6 per 1000-person year (20.7 to 29.2) and 26.9 per 1000-person year (7.3 to 44.4), respectively. Conclusions The present study describes the global prevalence and incidence of type 2 diabetes in patients with NAFLD or MAFLD. The study findings serve as a valuable resource to assess the global clinical and economic impact of type 2 diabetes in patients with NAFLD or MAFLD.

Ras proteins are integral to the mediation of signaling cascades to downstream effectors, regulating a multitude of cellular processes. Mutations within Ras and its associated signaling pathways are implicated in various human pathologies, including inflammatory disorders and malignancies. The immune checkpoint proteins, programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) and its ligands PD-L1, along with Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase-1 (IDO1), are pivotal in facilitating tumor immune escape. While the influence of oncogenic Ras on PD-L1 expression is extensively documented, the regulatory role of KRas in IDO1 expression remains inadequately understood. In the current study, we demonstrate that IDO1 and PD-L1 expressions are differentially regulated in KRas-mutant cancers. Treatment with the KRasG12C-specific inhibitor, ARS-1620, significantly increased IDO1 expression, which inversely correlated with PD-L1 expression in the KRasG12C-mutant H358 cell line. Notably, IDO1 expression was slightly diminished in KRas-mutant patients with lung and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas. Experimental data revealed that IFN-γ induces IDO1 expression; however, this induction is attenuated in the presence of constitutively active KRas. These findings suggest that KRas signaling negatively regulates IDO1 expression while enhancing PD-L1 expression. Moreover, the induction of IDO1 expression following KRas inhibition appears to operate independently of the MAPK pathway. Our results propose that concurrent targeting of KRas and IDO1 could potentiate therapeutic efficacy in KRas-mutant cancers, overcoming resistance to immune checkpoint blockade.

Phenotypic plasticity displayed by an animal in response to different environmental conditions is supposedly crucial for its survival and reproduction. The female adults of some ant lineages display phenotypic plasticity related to reproductive role. In pharaoh ant queens, insemination induces substantial physiological/behavioral changes and implicates remarkable gene regulatory network (GRN) shift in the brain. Here, we report a neuropeptide neuroparsin A (NPA) showing a conserved expression pattern associated with reproductive activity across ant species. Knock-down of NPA in unmated queen enhances ovary activity, whereas injection of NPA peptide in fertilized queen suppresses ovary activity. We found that NPA mainly affected the downstream gene JHBP in the ovary, which is positively regulated by NPA and suppression of which induces elevated ovary activity, and shadow which is negatively regulated by NPA. Furthermore, we show that NPA was also employed into the brain-ovary axis in regulating the worker reproductive changes in other distantly related species, such as Harpegnathos venator ants.

IntroductionTo evaluate the preoperative health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and influencing factors of HRQoL in patients undergoing thyroidectomy based on patient-reported outcomes.Materials and methodsPatients who were diagnosed and treated in Sichuan Cancer Hospital from February 2022 to December 2022 and were scheduled to undergo thyroidectomy were included. Each participant completed the basic information questionnaire and patient-reported outcome assessment scales before surgery. HRQoL was assessed using the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire-C30 (EORTC QLQ-C30), the Thyroid Cancer-Specific Quality of Life (THYCA-QoL), and the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA). The Wilcoxon rank sum test or the Kruskal-Wallis test was used to analyze the association between patient characteristics and HRQoL, and the variables with statistical significance were included in multiple linear regression analysis.Results450 patients were included in the study. According to the analysis of the THYCA-QoL scores, the psychological subscale was the most complained about. Anxiety was the most common symptom of the HAMA. Factors associated with worse general QoL on the EORTC QLQ-C30 included nondiagnostic/unsatisfactory fine-needle aspiration (FNA) result. Planned lateral neck dissection and nondiagnostic/unsatisfactory FNA result were influential factors for preoperative anxiety. Males and longer sleep duration were associated with better thyroid cancer-specific QoL, better general QoL, and less anxiety.ConclusionThe preoperative HRQoL of patients undergoing thyroidectomy was generally good. Females, insufficient sleep duration, planned lateral neck dissection, and nondiagnostic/unsatisfactory FNA result were associated with worse preoperative HRQoL.

PurposeTo investigate potential differences in pregnancy outcomes among patients with regular menstruation who underwent frozen-thawed embryo transfer using natural cycle (NC) or hormone replacement therapy (HRT).MethodsThis study retrospectively analyzed 2672 patients with regular menstruation who underwent FET from November 2015 to June 2021 at the single reproductive medical center. A one-to-one match was performed applying a 0.02 caliper with propensity score matching. Independent factors influencing the live birth and clinical pregnancy rates were screened and developed in the nomogram by logistic regression analysis. The efficacy of live birth rate and clinical pregnancy rate prediction models was assessed with the area under the ROC curve, and the live birth rate prediction model was internally validated within the bootstrap method.ResultsThe NC protocol outperformed the HRT protocol in terms of clinical pregnancy and live birth rates. The stratified analysis revealed consistently higher live birth and clinical pregnancy rates with the NC protocol across different variable strata compared to the HRT protocol. However, compared to the HRT treatment, perinatal outcomes indicated that the NC protocol was related to a higher probability of gestational diabetes. Multifactorial logistic regression analysis demonstrated independent risk factors for live birth rate and clinical pregnancy rate. To predict the two rates, nomogram prediction models were constructed based on these influencing factors. The receiver operating characteristic curve demonstrated moderate predictive ability with an area under curve (AUC) of 0.646 and 0.656 respectively. The internal validation of the model for live birth rate yielded an average AUC of 0.646 implying the stability of the nomogram model.ConclusionThis study highlighted that NC yielded higher live birth and clinical pregnancy rates in comparison to HRT in women with regular menstruation who achieved successful pregnancies through frozen-thawed embryo transfer. However, it might incur a higher risk of developing gestational diabetes.

The environmental friendliness and high efficiency of magnetocaloric refrigeration make it a promising substitute for vapor compression refrigeration. However, the common use of heat transfer fluid in conventional passive magnetic regenerators (PMRs) and active magnetic regenerators (AMRs) makes only partial materials contribute to the regeneration process, which produces large regeneration loss and greatly limits the regeneration efficiency and refrigeration performance at high frequency. Herein, we propose a new conceptual hybrid magnetic regenerator (HMR) composed of multiple solid-state high thermal conductivity materials (HTCMs) and magnetocaloric materials (MCMs), in which both HTCM and MCM elements participate in the regeneration process. This novel working mode could greatly reduce regeneration losses caused by dead volume, pressure losses, and temperature nonuniformity in heat transfer substances to markedly improve regeneration efficiency at high working frequencies. Using the experimentally obtained adiabatic temperature change and magnetic work and with the help of finite element simulation, a maximum temperature of 26 K, a dramatically large cooling power of 8.3 kW/kg, and a maximum ideal exergy efficiency of 54.2% are achieved at the working frequency of 10 Hz for an ideal prototype device of a rotary HMR magnetocaloric refrigerator, which shows potential for achieving an integrative, advanced performance against current AMR/PMR systems.

Objectives: Killer cell lectin like receptor G1 (KLRG1) is identified as a co-inhibitory receptor for NK cells and antigen-experienced T cells. The role of KLRG1 in immune regulation in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains poorly understood. Materials and Methods: We measured the proportion and immune function of KLRG1+CD8+ T cells derived from peripheral blood in patients with NSCLC by flow cytometry. Besides, using data from the gene expression profiles and single-cell sequencing, we explored the expression and immune role of KLRG1 in tumor tissues of patients with NSCLC. We further determined the prognostic value of KLRG1 in terms of overall survival (OS) in NSCLC patients. Results: We found that the proportion of KLRG1+CD8+T cells in peripheral blood significantly increased in patients with NSCLC as compared to those with benign pulmonary nodules and healthy donors. Peripheral KLRG1+CD8+T cell proportion was increased in elder subjects compared to that in younger ones, implying an immunosenescence phenotype. Moreover, the KLRG1+CD8+T cell levels were positively correlated with tumor size and TNM stage in the NSCLC cohort. In vitro stimulation experiments demonstrated that the KLRG1+CD8+T cells from peripheral blood expressed higher levels of Granzyme B and perforin than the KLRG1−CD8+ T cells. However, single-cell RNA sequencing data revealed that the KLRG1+CD8+ T cells were less infiltrated in tumor microenvironment and exhibited impaired cytotoxicity. The KLRG1 gene expression levels were significantly lower in tumor tissues than that in normal lung tissues, and were inversely correlated with CDH1 expression levels. Moreover, higher expression of CDH1 in tumor tissues predicted worse overall survival only in patients with KLRG1-high expression, but not in the KLRG1-low subset. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that KLRG1+CD8+T cells were associated with tumor immune evasion in NSCLC and suggests KLRG1 as a potential immunotherapy target.

Abstract To overcome the overheating phenomena of electronic devices and energy components, developing advanced energy‐free cooling coatings with promising radiative property seem an effective and energy‐saving way. However, the further application of these coatings is greatly limited by their sustainability because of their fragile and easy contamination. Herein, it is reported that a bioinspired radiative cooling coating (BRCC) displayed sustainably efficient heat dissipation by the combination of high emittance and robust self‐cleaning property. With the hierarchical porous structure constructed by multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), modified SiO2 and fluorosilicone (FSi) resin, the involvement of the BRCC improves the cooling performance by increasing ≈25% total heat transfer coefficient. During the abrasion and soiling tests, the BRCC‐coated Al alloy heat sink always displays stable radiative cooling performance. Moreover, the simulation and experimental results both revealed that reducing surface coverage of BRCC (≈80.9%) can still keep highly cooling efficiency, leading to a cost‐effective avenue. Therefore, this study may guide the design and fabrication of advanced radiative cooling coating.

In this publication, we offer the first assessment of the long-term radiation impact on superconducting magnets utilized in MRI-guided proton therapy. We explore both uniform and non-uniform magnetic fields and create three improved therapy plans for shallow (brain), medium (liver), and deep (prostate) targets. The evaluation of radiation damage in superconducting magnets using therapy plans is carried out through the implementation of the Monte Carlo method, molecular dynamics method, and modified NRT model. The results of the three plans show that a large amount of particles do enter the superconducting magnet during the treatment, with a preponderance of photons and neutrons. For superconducting magnets in MRI systems, the closer the coil is to the target area, the greater the radiation damage, and the extent of radiation damage increases with the energy of the incident proton beam. The PKA with high energy can induce temperature fluctuations locally in the superconducting coils, but does not pose a threat to its mechanical properties. Following 20 years of continuous operation, the DPA of the internal coils is about 2.3097E-17, and the maximum dose to insulating layer is about 1.25 Gy. The results of this paper show that MRI-guided proton therapy poses no threat to the long-term operation of superconducting magnets.

Abstract Chondroitin sulfate (CS) has widely been used as a symptomatic slow-acting drug or a dietary supplement for the treatment and prevention of osteoarthritis. However, CS could not be absorbed after oral intake due to its polyanionic nature and large molecular weight. Gut microbiota has recently been proposed to play a pivotal role in the metabolism of drugs and nutrients. Nonetheless, how CS is degraded by the human gut microbiota has not been fully characterized. In the present study, we demonstrated that each human gut microbiota was characterized with a unique capability for CS degradation. Degradation and fermentation of CS by the human gut microbiota produced significant amounts of unsaturated CS oligosaccharides (CSOSs) and short-chain fatty acids. To uncover which microbes were responsible for CS degradation, we isolated a total of 586 bacterial strains with a potential CS-degrading capability from 23 human fecal samples. Bacteroides salyersiae was a potent species for CS degradation in the human gut microbiota and produced the highest amount of CSOSs as compared to other well-recognized CS-degraders, including Bacteroides finegoldii, Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, Bacteroides xylanisolvens, and Bacteroides ovatus. Genomic analysis suggested that B. salyersiae was armed with multiple carbohydrate-active enzymes that could potentially degrade CS into CSOSs. By using a spent medium assay, we further demonstrated that the unsaturated tetrasaccharide (udp4) produced by the primary degrader B. salyersiae could serve as a “public goods” molecule for the growth of Bacteroides stercoris, a secondary CS-degrader that was proficient at fermenting CSOSs but not CS. Taken together, our study provides insights into the metabolism of CS by the human gut microbiota, which has promising implications for the development of medical and nutritional therapies for osteoarthritis. Introduction: The immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment is a major barrier for chemotherapy. Different chemosensitization approaches to reinstate immunological surveillance for cancers that are immune quiescent at the outset, have thus been devised. Cancer-specific ENOX2 expression is correlated with abnormal cell growth and has been proposed as a cellular target for anti-cancer activity. However, the potential effects of ENOX2 on the interaction between immune system and tumor cells remain elusive. Objectives: To understand the mechanisms by which tumor-intrinsic ENOX2-mediated alterations in anti-tumor activity of T-cells and response to chemotherapy. Methods: In situ multiplexed immunohistochemistry with single cell and bulk RNA sequencing data from nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) human tissues were used to define tumor phenotypes. Two NPC cell lines, with distinct ENOX2 expression, were used in a co-culture platform to study tumor-immune interactions between cancer cells/spheroids and T-cells. The effect of cisplatin treatment with ENOX2 inhibition by idronoxil (IDX) were tested in vitro and in vivo. Multi-parametric flow cytometry was used to characterize T-cell infiltrates in an NPC tumor humanized mouse model treated with combined treatment. Results: NPC predominantly displayed an immune-excluded profile. This “cold-phenotype” was shown to exhibit higher ENOX2 expression and was associate with poorer progression-free survival (PFS). The therapeutic combination of IDX with cisplatin was effective in promoting CD8+ effector memory T cell (Tem) differentiation and mobilization. This Tem signature was highly cytotoxic, with Tem-mediated preferential lysis of higher ENOX2-expressing NPC cells. A combination-treated humanized mouse model showing dramatic shrinkage in tumors, were intra-tumoral Tem-enriched. Conclusion: Tumor-intrinsic ENOX2 expression is associated with tumor phenotype and PFS in NPC. Targeting ENOX2 with IDX and cisplatin impose qualitative control of T-cell response by preferentially increasing immune cells infiltration, Tem differentiation and tumor suppression. We suggest that ENOX2 inhibition may be a promising therapeutic strategy to enhance the effects of chemotherapy.

Abstract Background While the role of low-dose computed tomography (CT) in lung cancer screening is established, its limitations in detailing pulmonary vascular variations are less emphasized. Three-dimensional reconstruction technology allows surgeons to reconstruct a patient’s bronchial and pulmonary vascular structures using CT scan results. However, low-dose CT may not provide the same level of clarity as enhanced CT in displaying pulmonary vascular details. This limitation can be unfavorable for preoperative detection of potential pulmonary vascular variations, especially in cases involving planned segmentectomy. Case Presentation We report a case of a 58-year-old female with lung cancer, initially planned for Da Vinci robot-assisted thoracoscopic segmentectomy. Unexpectedly, during surgery, a pulmonary vein variation in the right upper lobe was discovered, leading to a change in the surgical method to a lobectomy. The patient had four variant right upper lobe veins draining into the superior vena cava and one into the left atrium. The surgery was complicated by significant bleeding and postoperative pulmonary congestion. Postoperative pathology confirmed adenocarcinoma. Conclusions This case highlights the importance of meticulous intraoperative exploration, particularly in cases involving planned segmentectomy, as unexpected pulmonary vein variations can significantly affect surgical decision-making. While three-dimensional reconstruction based on preoperative CT data is a valuable tool, it may not capture the full complexity of the anatomical variations. We discuss potential preoperative imaging techniques, including contrast-enhanced CT and CT angiography, as methods to better identify these variations. The enhanced visualization provided by robot-assisted surgery plays a crucial role in identifying and adapting to these variations, underscoring the advantages of this surgical approach. Our report contributes to the existing literature by providing a detailed account of how these principles were applied in a real-world scenario, reinforcing the need for surgical adaptability and awareness of the limitations of low-dose CT in complex cases.

Blockchain technology has attracted widespread attention due to its advantages of decentralization, as well as non-tampering, transparency, and traceability of information. Fourth-party logistics systems that do not use blockchain incur transaction costs and service quality losses due to the inability to fully control the delivery process, whereas the use of blockchain eliminates the transaction costs and quality losses, but the use of blockchain needs implementation and marginal use costs. To study the conditions for the use of blockchain technology, consider the fourth-party logistics system does not use and uses blockchain technology, and the equilibrium strategies in the two cases are compared. Numerical experiments show that there exists a certain range of blockchain costs which leads to a Pareto improvement in profits for both fourth-party logistics and third-party logistics and an improvement in the quality of logistics services when using blockchain.

To address the issue of low detection accuracy and high false positive rate in existing network intrusion detection methods, this paper proposes an intrusion detection model based on CNN-BiLSTM-Attention. Firstly, CNN is used to extract the spatial features from the intrusion data; Secondly, BiLSTM is used to mine the temporal features from the intrusion data further; Thirdly, the attention mechanism is used to assign different weights to the extracted spatiotemporal features and then enhance the role of important features in the calculation process, which can improve the classification accuracy of the model. In addition, for the problem of class imbalance existing in network intrusion data, Equalization Loss v2 is introduced as the loss function of the CNN-BiLSTM-Attention model, making the model pay more attention to minority class data during the training process, thereby improving the detection rate of the model for the minority class data. Finally, comparative experiments are conducted on NSL-KDD, UNSW-NB15, and CIC-DDoS2019 datasets. The experimental results show that the CNN-BiLSTM-Attention model outperforms the other models in terms of accuracy, detection rate, and false positive rate.

Abstract Background Patients with degenerative spinal deformity often experience symptoms that seriously affect their quality of life, such as low back pain and dysfunction. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between paravertebral muscle function and pelvic incidence (PI) and their effect on health-related quality of life (HRQL) in patients with degenerative spinal deformity. Methods A total of 112 patients with degenerative spinal deformity in Southwest Hospital (Chongqing, China) were enrolled. They were divided into groups according to PI angle: high (PI > 60°, n = 37), normal (PI 50°–60°, n = 31), and low (PI 0.05). There was no significant difference in endurance time, SVA, ODI, RMQ, and SF-36 among the three groups. Electroencephalography (EEG) datasets are characterized by low signal-to-noise signals and unquantifiable noisy labels, which hinder the classification performance in rapid serial visual presentation (RSVP) tasks. Previous approaches primarily relied on supervised learning (SL), which may result in overfitting and reduced generalization performance. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-task collaborative network (MTCN) that integrates both SL and self-supervised learning (SSL) to extract more generalized EEG representations. The original SL task, i.e., the RSVP EEG classification task, is used to capture initial representations and establish classification thresholds for targets and non-targets. Two SSL tasks, including the masked temporal/spatial recognition task, are designed to enhance temporal dynamics extraction and capture the inherent spatial relationships among brain regions, respectively. The MTCN simultaneously learns from multiple tasks to derive a comprehensive representation that captures the essence of all tasks, thus mitigating the risk of overfitting and enhancing generalization performance. Moreover, to facilitate collaboration between SL and SSL, MTCN explicitly decomposes features into task-specific features and task-shared features, leveraging both label information with SL and feature information with SSL. Experiments conducted on THU, CAS, and GIST datasets illustrate the significant advantages of learning more generalized features in RSVP tasks. Abstract To verify the reliability and accuracy of wall thickness ratio analysis to determine the degree of bone healing, fracture models were established with 6 beagles. X-ray, micro-CT, and CT scans were performed at 24 weeks. The healthy side and the affected side were used to simulate the three-dimensional geometric model after internal fixation, and the mesh was divided. The mean and median CT wall thickness values were obtained through the wall thickness analysis. X-ray, CT, micro-CT, and gross appearance were used to determine the degree of bone healing, which was compared with wall thickness analysis. There was a positive correlation between the average CT value and the median wall thickness. The correlation coefficient analysis of the median wall thickness ratio (R2) and healing index ratio (R3) showed a positive correlation. The results of the wall thickness ratio (R2) and the healing index ratio (R3) were used to determine bone healing, and the results were consistent with the results of the actual mechanical test and image analysis. The results of wall thickness ratio analysis were significantly correlated with the degree of bone healing. This method is simple, rapid, and practical to analyze and judge the degree of bone healing.

Background: In Wuhan, China, a stringent lockdown was implemented to contain the spread of COVID-19, transitioning later to normalised prevention and control strategy. This study examines the trends in hospital visits for acute and chronic respiratory diseases, with a focus on outpatient, inpatient, and severe condition visits. Methods: The study used administrative health insurance data spanning from January 2018 to August 2021, an interrupted time series analysis was conducted to assess the trend in hospital visits per million population for respiratory diseases. To confirm whether the change was exclusive to respiratory diseases, neoplasms and intracerebral haemorrhage were used as controls. The impact of the pandemic was estimated by comparing by weekly admissions to pre-pandemic levels. Subgroup analyses dissected variations by disease and visit types. Results: Hospital visits for respiratory diseases declined significantly during the lockdown and exhibited a slower recovery in the later normalised prevention and control period compared to the control conditions. As of August 2021, outpatient visits increased by over 22.2% above the pre-pandemic level, while inpatient and severe condition visits witnessed significant reductions, falling to 46.7% and 80.6% of pre-pandemic levels, respectively. Compared to three other subgroups, visits for acute lower respiratory infections experienced the most significant decline, with inpatient and severe visits dropping to 23.9% and 25.7% of pre-pandemic levels. Interpretation: Our study revealed a persistent reduction in inpatient and severe case visits for respiratory diseases throughout the ongoing pandemic. These findings suggested the possible role of non-pharmaceutical interventions in mitigating acute and chronic non-COVID respiratory diseases.

Abstract Objectives Vascularized fibula flap transplantation is the most effective and common method to repair the jaw defects. In addition, implantation is the first choice to restore dentition on the graft fibula. Implants are usually implanted at least 6 months after fibula transplantation. Primary implantation of implants during surgery can restore the dentition earlier, but whether this method can achieve the same restorative effect as secondary implantation is still uncertain. This article aims to compare the survival rate and complications between primary and secondary implantation through meta-analysis. Methods This meta-analysis was conducted according to PRISMA protocol and the Cochrane Handbook of Systematic Reviews of Interventions. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, we selected the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese BioMedical Literature Database (CBM) according to established inclusion and exclusion criteria. The Newcastle–Ottawa Scale (NOS) was used to assess the quality of the included studies. Meta-analysis was conducted to compare the survival rate and postoperative infection rate of primary and secondary implantation. Results Seven studies were involved in our research, involving 186 patients. Five of the studies detailed implant success in 106 patients (primary implantation 50, secondary implantation 56), and four studies documented infection after implantation in 117 patients (primary implantation 52, secondary implantation 65); the survival rate of the primary implantation was 93.3%, and the incidence of postoperative infection was 17.3%. The survival rate of the secondary implantation was 93.4%, and 23.1% had postoperative infection. Meta-analysis showed that there was no significant difference in the survival rate between primary implantation and secondary implantation, OR = 0.813 (95% CI 0.383–1.725, P = 0.589 > 0.05), and there was no significant difference in the incidence of postoperative infection, OR = 0.614 (95% CI 0.239–1.581, P = 0.312 > 0.05). Conclusions Based on the results of this study, the research found no significant difference in the survival rate or infection rates between primary and secondary implantation. After appropriate indications selection, primary implantation can be used to reconstruct the dentition with less waiting time, reduce the impact of radiotherapy, and bring a higher quality of life for patients.

Abstract Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cell survival and chemoresistance are influenced by the existence of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs); however, the pathways by which BMMSCs contribute to these processes remain unclear. We earlier revealed that methyltransferase-like 3 (METTL3) expression is significantly reduced in AML BMMSCs and that METTL3 mediates BMMSC adipogenesis to promote chemoresistance in human AML cell lines in vitro. In this investigation, we evaluated the METTL3 function in vivo. Mice exhibiting a conditional removal of Mettl3 in BMMSCs were developed by mating Prrx1-Cre ERT2 ;Mettl3 fl/+ mice with Mettl3 fl/fl mice using the CRISPR-Cas9 system. The Mettl3 deletion increased bone marrow adiposity, enhanced disease progression in the transplantation-induced MLL-AF9 AML mouse model, and chemoresistance to cytarabine. The removal of Mettl3 in BMMSCs resulted in a significant increase in BMMSC adipogenesis. This effect was attributed to the downregulation of AKT1 expression, an AKT serine/threonine kinase 1, in an m6A-dependent manner. The development of chemoresistance in AML is linked to the promoted adipogenesis of BMMSCs. We conclude that METTL3 expression in BMMSCs has a critical function in limiting AML progression and chemoresistance, providing a basis for the progression of therapeutic approaches for AML.
