Abstract

A model which can predict long-haul transmission performance of multicore fiber (MCF), with a tradeoff of accuracy and complexity, is highly desired. We analytically validate the Gaussian distribution of linewidth induced multicore fiber (MCF) crosstalk. Then, a modified Gaussian noise (GN) model including the MCF crosstalk is verified through simulations. It is found that transmission capacity using ring-structure MCF with mean crosstalk of −45 dB per 100 km can almost approach to that of N parallel single mode fibers (SMFs).
