The article examines the effect of the radical revision of history on the traditional American reverence for Christopher Columbus, an Italian explorer and adventurer and a Roman Catholic, and how it reflected in the teaching in the U.S. public school system. He points out two events that led the growing revisioning movement to remove Columbus' statues in 1990. He discusses the re-visioning of U.S. history in Frances FitzGerald's "American Revised: History Schoolbooks in the Twentieth Century."
