This study evaluated the effects of feeding an ultra-diluted complex to dairy cows during the transition period and early lactation. Thirty multiparous pregnant dairy cows were blocked and randomly assigned to either a placebo control (CON) group or ultra-diluted complex (UD) group. The CON group received a placebo (basal diet + 40 g/cow/day of expanded silicate), while the UD group received the ultra-diluted complex (basal diet + 40 g/cow/day of PeriParto Transição–RealH, composed of ultra-diluted substances + vehicle: expanded silicate). Cows were evaluated from 30 days before the expected calving date until 60 days in milk (DIM) for sample and data collection. Post-partum dry matter intake (DMI) was not affected by the treatment. Cows fed UD had higher DMI relative to BW. Feeding UD increased milk lactose content and decreased milk protein content. Cows fed UD had lower somatic cell counts in the third and fourth week of lactation. Cows fed UD showed a tendency for higher liver health index. Using UD during the transition period and early lactation may benefit liver and udder health of dairy cows with no detrimental effect on milk performance.

Schizophrenia is a mental illness characterized by disorders of thought and perception, inappropriate affect and cognitive deficits. The development of this potentially chronic illness is multifactorial. Its course is intra- and inter-individually variable, resulting in different and specific care needs. This white paper shows the current knowledge about schizophrenia and its care and makes recommendations for future improvements to the care situation. It offers: - Information on the clinical picture, epidemiology, diagnostics and therapy - Descriptions of the care situation and the regulatory framework, including special care concepts and aspects such as nursing, rehabilitation and participation - Health and socio-economic aspects such as the financing of care and the overall economic consequences of the illness Well-known experts and specialists from the care sector have contributed their knowledge and experience to the white paper. Based on its comprehensive presentation of the topic, the book provides food for thought on how the healthcare situation can be improved in the future, especially with regard to early detection and destigmatization. It is aimed at designers and representatives of healthcare from medicine, research, health insurance companies, politics, as well as patient representatives and journalists.

In experiments, the free energy of transferring the peptide group from water to an osmolyte solution is obtained using the transfer free energy of (Gly)_n with the added assumption that a constant incremental change in free energy with n implies that each additional unit makes an independent contribution to the free energy. Here we test this assumption and uncover its limitations. Together with results for cyclic-diglycine, we show that, in principle, it is not possible to obtain a peptide group transfer free energy that is independent of the model system. We calculate the hydration free energy of acetyl-(Gly)_n-methyl amide (n=1..7) peptides modeled in the extended conformation in water and osmolyte solutions and find that the hydration free energy is linear in n, suggestive of independent, additive group-contributions. To probe the observed linearity further, we study the hydration of the solute bereft of water molecules in the first hydration shell. This conditioned solute arises naturally in the theoretical formulation and helps us focus on hydration effects uncluttered by the complexities of short-range solute-water interactions. We subdivide the conditioned solute into n+1 peptide groups and a methyl end group. The binding energy of each of these groups with the solvent is Gaussian distributed, but the near neighbor binding energies are themselves correlated: the (i,i+1) correlation is the strongest and tends to lower the free energy over the independent group case. We show that the observed linearity can be explained by the similarity of near neighbor correlations. Implications for group additive transfer free energy models are indicated.

Condensed Matter - Materials Science - Abstract
Based on our comprehensive theoretical investigation and known experimental results for small boron clusters, we predict the existence of a novel aromatic inorganic molecule, B12H6. This molecule, which we refer to as borozene, has remarkably similar properties to the well-known benzene. Borozene is planar, possesses a large first excitation energy, D3h symmetry, and more importantly is aromatic. Furthermore, the calculated anisotropy of the magnetic susceptibility of borozene is three times larger in absolute value than for benzene. Finally, we can show that borozene molecules may be fused together to give larger aromatic compounds with even larger anisotropic susceptibilities., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures and 1 table

Computer Science - Artificial Intelligence - Abstract
Previous approaches of analyzing spontaneously spoken language often have been based on encoding syntactic and semantic knowledge manually and symbolically. While there has been some progress using statistical or connectionist language models, many current spoken- language systems still use a relatively brittle, hand-coded symbolic grammar or symbolic semantic component. In contrast, we describe a so-called screening approach for learning robust processing of spontaneously spoken language. A screening approach is a flat analysis which uses shallow sequences of category representations for analyzing an utterance at various syntactic, semantic and dialog levels. Rather than using a deeply structured symbolic analysis, we use a flat connectionist analysis. This screening approach aims at supporting speech and language processing by using (1) data-driven learning and (2) robustness of connectionist networks. In order to test this approach, we have developed the SCREEN system which is based on this new robust, learned and flat analysis. In this paper, we focus on a detailed description of SCREEN's architecture, the flat syntactic and semantic analysis, the interaction with a speech recognizer, and a detailed evaluation analysis of the robustness under the influence of noisy or incomplete input. The main result of this paper is that flat representations allow more robust processing of spontaneous spoken language than deeply structured representations. In particular, we show how the fault-tolerance and learning capability of connectionist networks can support a flat analysis for providing more robust spoken-language processing within an overall hybrid symbolic/connectionist framework., Comment: See http://www.jair.org/ for any accompanying files

Cybersecurity and International Relations - Abstract
Why have the Chinese and Russian internet sovereignty norms diffused successfully to some countries – thereby undermining the previously dominant US norm of internet freedom – and what are the implications of successful international diffusion of information controls for understandings of sovereignty in International Relations? Starting in the 1980s, internet freedom swept through the world and soon became the leading global cyber norm. This rise was propelled by US goals of increasing economic power and spreading democracy. Many countries that imported internet technologies, saw the economic benefits of the technologies, but with the import of the internet they also adopted loose market and content regulations. However, in the 2000s, the eruption of protests in the Middle East, Latin America, Africa, and across Asia, powered through internet-connected devices, increased the regime threat perception of authoritarian- leaning leaders. As a result, they started importing technology/techniques associated with internet sovereignty from China and Russia, who had, early-on, built up their information control capabilities. Beijing and Moscow, for their part, have actively promoted internet sovereignty diffusion to geographical areas that they conceived as their spheres of influence – the Commonwealth of Independent States for Russia and the Belt and Road Initiative for China. This thesis makes several main contributions. It builds a framework to distinguish the three cyber norms it studies: internet freedom, and the Chinese and Russian variants of internet sovereignty. This thesis also devises a neoclassical realist framework of International Relations, which focusses on explanatory variables at the unit level (perception underlying export/import) to explain the international expansion of internet freedom/sovereignty. Additionally, it updates the term of sovereignty to the digital age. Namely, with the diffusion of internet freedom/sovereignty norms, technological spheres of influence emerged, in which the US, China, and Russia have weakened countries’ Westphalian sovereignty and shaped their domestic and interdependence sovereignty.
