As student demand for nonprofit management education (NME) grows, new program offerings proliferate. While longitudinal data track the development of graduate NME programs, their curricula and location, we know less about the trajectory of undergraduate programs. Preliminary research finds evidence of undergraduate programs that are more diverse and span a greater number of locations than ever before. As a compilation, these findings facilitate analysis of the institutionalization of NME by expanding the focus beyond courses to include program development (certificates, majors, and/or minors). The results enable data-driven discussions, highlighting NME distinctiveness in facilitating the development of student engagement with community.

Objective: Eustachian tube dysfunction is prevalent in both paediatric and adult populations. Current clinical guidelines recommend observation over topical intranasal corticosteroids for Eustachian tube dysfunction management, which remains controversial. This study aimed to systematically review randomised, controlled trials assessing topical intranasal corticosteroid efficacy in Eustachian tube dysfunction, and analyse effect through tympanometric normalisation. Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and Cochrane Library databases were searched. All randomised, controlled trials assessing intranasal corticosteroids in adult or paediatric Eustachian tube dysfunction patients were included. A meta-analysis of proportions was used to evaluate tympanogram normalisation. Results: Of 330 results, eight randomised, controlled trials met inclusion criteria and underwent qualitative data synthesis and risk-of-bias analysis. Meta-analysis of tympanometry data from four eligible trials (n = 512 ears) revealed no significant difference in tympanometric normalisation between intranasal corticosteroids and control (odds ratio 1.21, 95% confidence interval 0.65–2.24). Conclusion: Study results do not strongly support intranasal corticosteroids for Eustachian tube dysfunction. Introduction: Inpatient and outpatient evaluation is important for management of temporal bone trauma due to the possible otologic complications that can result. However, there is limited literature on follow up rates following temporal bone fracture. This study aimed to determine the proportion of patients lost to follow up after sustaining temporal bone fractures and identify factors associated with loss to follow up. Methods: Retrospective review of adult patients who sustained temporal bone fractures at a level I trauma center from January 1, 2019 to January 1, 2024 was completed (IRB H-44161). The primary outcome included prevalence of patient loss to follow up. Secondary variables included initial radiographic and exam findings, otologic complications, and demographic characteristics. Patients who were seen in follow up and lost to follow up were compared, and odds of loss to follow up was calculated. Results: Sixty-nine patients met inclusion criteria for this study, of which 30 patients (43.5%) were lost to follow up. Patients who were White had a significantly lower odds of loss to follow up than those who were not White (OR = 0.2506 (95% CI: 0.0706, 0.8067, P =.0024). While need for acute management was not significantly different between the groups, a significantly lower proportion of patients who were intubated on presentation (P =.0091), had abnormal otoscopic exam (P =.0211), and had otologic complications (P =.0056) were lost to follow up. Conclusion: Almost half of patients who sustained temporal bone fractures, including a significantly higher odds of minority race/ethnicity patients, were lost to follow up. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Philanthropic foundations are credited with being sources of social innovation. Yet, most scholarship focuses on foundations funding innovations rather than adopting innovative philanthropic practices. Program‐related investments (PRIs) serve as lenses to understand how philanthropic innovations are adopted, implemented, and diffused. Scholars describe PRIs as innovations broadening grantmaking practices, but foundations today do not widely use PRIs despite their increased use in the 1980s and 2000s. I propose a theoretical model integrating foundation behavior literature with social transition theory, linking the diffusion of philanthropic innovations to specific configurations of micro‐, meso‐, and macro‐factors. Drawing on archival research, the study analyzes the Ford Foundation's PRI Office and the Cooperative Assistance Fund between 1968 and 1988. It shows that individual foundations acted upon the favorable environment for PRIs created by a broader agreement that social responsibility was to be shared across sectors. Long‐lasting norms about not mixing investments and philanthropy slowed the broad diffusion of PRIs in the foundation sector, which as an organizational field lagged the innovativeness of individual foundations. By focusing on how foundations adopt and implement innovative philanthropic strategies, the study moves beyond the practice of measuring philanthropic impact through grantees' performance rather than through philanthropic strategies. Career paths, career development and participation in adult learning are to a large extent dependent on learning experiences and labour-market entrance in early life stages. However, within the group of people with relative weak educational and vocational background variance was found in terms of how people perceive their situation and how they describe, plan and realise their career. Based on narrative interviews with low-qualified adults, the presented study describes individual circumstances and approaches to lifelong learning and career development. Based on the concept of enacted career, the article shows how the differences in the perceptions of career and learning can be understood as contextualised action. The article shows inner resources and external constraints have potential influence on the educational and career development in this group. The discussion focuses on consequences for career counselling and guidance.

Induction of apoptosis represents a potential reaction of endothelial cells (ECs) after injury of the vascular endothelium. Beneficial effects of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in vascular diseases are widely recognized although the responsible mechanisms are not fully understood. Because it is not known whether PUFAs modulate EC apoptosis, we investigated the effects of n-3 and n-6 PUFAs on 4-hydroxynonenal (HNE)-induced EC apoptosis by annexin V staining and caspase-3 activation assays. Pretreatment with the n-3 fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) reduced HNE-induced EC apoptosis. DHA-treated cells did not show the pronounced drop in intracellular GSH after HNE exposure seen in vehicle- or n-6 arachidonic acid-treated cells. This is most likely due to increased GSH levels in DHA-treated cells. Furthermore, DHA pretreatment increased ciap1 mRNA levels and transfection of cIAP1 small interfering RNA abolished the protective effect of DHA in HNE-induced apoptosis in HUVECs. Thus pretreatment of HUVECs with DHA reduces HNE-induced oxidative stress and apoptosis, and the protective effects of DHA seem to be dependent on cIAP1.
