Background: Oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma (OTSCC) often presents with aggressive clinical behaviour that may require multimodality treatment based on reliable prognostication. We aimed to evaluate the prognostic ability of five online web‐based tools to predict the clinical behaviour of OTSCC resection and biopsy samples. Methods: A total of 135 OTSCC resection cases and 33 OTSCC biopsies were included to predict recurrence and survival. Area under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUC), χ2 tests, and calibration plots constructed to estimate the prognostic power of each tool. Results: The tool entitled 'Prediction of risk of Locoregional Recurrences in Early OTSCC' presented an accuracy of 82%. The tool, 'Head & Neck Cancer Outcome Calculator' for 10‐year cancer‐related mortality had an accuracy 77% and AUC 0.858. The other tool entitled 'Cancer Survival Rates' for 5‐year mortality showed an accuracy of 74% and AUC of 0.723. For biopsy samples, 'Cancer Survival Prediction Calculators' predicted the recurrence free survival with an accuracy of 70%. Conclusions: Web‐based tools can aid in clinical decision making of OTSCC. Three of five online web‐based tools could predict recurrence risk and cancer‐related mortality in resected OTSCC and one tool could help in clinical decision making for biopsy samples. However, their potential and validity in pregnant populations are scarcely explored. Objectives This study aimed to (a) validate energy intakes obtained from a web-based dietary recall method developed for national surveys (RiksmatenFlex) against total energy expenditure (TEE) by means of the doubly labelled water (DLW) method, and (b) to compare intakes of macronutrients, key unhealthy and healthy foods as well as adherence to food-based dietary guidelines between RiksmatenFlex and repeated 24 h telephone dietary recalls in healthy Swedish pregnant women. Methods This study was conducted as a nested validation within the HealthyMoms trial. Intakes of foods, macronutrients and energy were assessed during three days through RiksmatenFlex and 24 h telephone dietary recalls, and Swedish Healthy Eating Index (SHEI) scores were also calculated for both methods (n = 52). For 24 women, TEE was also assessed through the DLW method. Paired Samples T-tests and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Tests were used to identify differences between means for foods, macronutrients, energy and SHEI scores. Pearson correlation coefficient or Spearman’s rho were performed to identify relationships between variables. Abstract Background People with dementia and their family caregivers often encounter challenges in engaging in advance care planning (ACP), such as a lack of information and difficulties in engaging in ACP conversations. Using a user-centred design, we developed two interactive web-based tools as part of an ACP support website to stimulate ACP reflection and communication: (1) the ‘Thinking Now About Later’ tool, with open-ended questions about ‘what matters most’, and (2) a digital version of the ‘Life Wishes Cards’, a card tool with pre-formulated statements that prompt reflection about wishes for future care. This study aimed to evaluate the use of and experiences with two web-based tools by people with dementia and their family caregivers. Methods During an eight-week period, people with dementia and family caregivers were invited to use the ACP support website in the way they preferred. The mixed-methods evaluation of the ACP tools involved capturing log data to assess website use and semi-structured qualitative interviews to capture experiences. Analyses included descriptive statistics of log data and framework analysis for qualitative data. Results Of 52 participants, 21 people had dementia and 31 were family caregivers. The ‘Thinking Now About Later’ tool and ‘Life Wishes Cards’ were accessed 136 and 91 times respectively, with an average session duration of 14 minutes (SD = 27.45 minutes). 22 participants actively engaged with the tools, with the majority using the tools once, and seven revisiting them. Those who used the tools valued the guidance it provided for ACP conversations between people with dementia and their family caregivers. Participants reported that people with dementia experienced barriers to using the tools on their own, hence family caregivers usually facilitated the use and participation of people with dementia. Some highlighted not knowing what next steps to take after completing the tools online. Conclusions Although less than half the people used the ACP tools, those who used them found them helpful to facilitate communication between people with dementia and their family. Family caregivers of people with dementia played a crucial role in facilitating the use of the web-based tools.

The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and analogous projects have yielded invaluable tumor-associated genomic data. Despite several web-based platforms designed to enhance accessibility, certain analyses require prior bioinformatic expertise. To address this need, we developed Gene ENrichment Identifier (GENI, https://www.shaullab.com/geni), which is designed to promptly compute correlations for genes of interest against the entire transcriptome and rank them against well-established biological gene sets. Additionally, it generates comprehensive tables containing genes of interest and their corresponding correlation coefficients, presented in publication-quality graphs. Furthermore, GENI has the capability to analyze multiple genes simultaneously within a given gene set, elucidating their significance within a specific biological context. Overall, GENI's user-friendly interface simplifies the biological interpretation and analysis of cancer patient-associated data, advancing the understanding of cancer biology and accelerating scientific discoveries.

Managing relationships between/with students is one of the main duties that teachers are asked to fulfill, which becomes even more challenging in multi-ethnic/multicultural educational contexts. Responding to the need for culturally-qualified training for school professionals and given the increasing use of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)—often without evidence supporting their efficacy—this study will evaluate the potential of a tailored MOOC—designed to tackle overt/covert discrimination and foster inclusion and culturally responsive teacher–student interactions—to promote teachers' awareness and competence in conflict management. Overall, 206 Italian teachers experienced the MOOC, of whom 99 completed the Rahim Conflict Management Inventory-II, assessing Conflict Management Styles (Integrating, Obliging, Compromising, Dominating, and Avoiding) pre- and post-MOOC. Potential changes in the adoption of Conflict Management Styles after completing the MOOC were evaluated. After completing the MOOC, there was a reduction in teachers' recourse to the Avoiding and Obliging styles and, of note, more informed/targeted use of the Dominating style. These findings provided evidence-based contributions sustaining that the MOOC may effectively foster a more aware, engaged, and active pattern for managing relationships and conflicts within classes, thus potentially having a tangible positive impact on the real everyday life of teachers experiencing this training and their students. As biological imaging continues to rapidly advance, it results in increasingly complex image data, necessitating a reevaluation of conventional bioimage analysis methods and their accessibility. This perspective underscores our belief that a transition from desktop-based tools to web-based bioimage analysis could unlock immense opportunities for improved accessibility, enhanced collaboration, and streamlined workflows. We outline the potential benefits, such as reduced local computational demands and solutions to common challenges, including software installation issues and limited reproducibility. Furthermore, we explore the present state of web-based tools, hurdles in implementation, and the significance of collective involvement from the scientific community in driving this transition. In acknowledging the potential roadblocks and complexity of data management, we suggest a combined approach of selective prototyping and large-scale workflow application for optimal usage. Embracing web-based bioimage analysis could pave the way for the life sciences community to accelerate biological research, offering a robust platform for a more collaborative, efficient, and democratized science.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are members of the small non-coding RNA family regulating gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. MiRNAs have been found to have critical roles in various biological and pathological processes. Research in this field has significantly progressed, with increased recognition of the importance of miRNA regulation. As a result of the vast data and information available regarding miRNAs, numerous online tools have emerged to address various biological questions related to their function and influence across essential cellular processes. This review includes a brief introduction to available resources for an investigation covering aspects such as miRNA sequences, target prediction/validation, miRNAs associated with disease, pathway analysis and genetic variants within miRNAs. The transportation sector is critical to the emergency response during a hurricane. This research does a systematic assessment of the literature to determine how the transportation system actively engages in the aftermath of a hurricane by examining the transportation system's major function indicators- “Evacuation Routing”, “Emergency Services”, and “Search & Rescue”. To accomplish this goal, 86 academic publications were examined using the Web of Science and Scopus databases. The emergency response functions of the transportation system were evaluated using academic research methods, with various modes of transport considered. In the studies, optimization and simulation techniques were found to be common research methodologies, whereas personal cars and public transportation were used more often than other modes of transportation. The findings of the study may provide useful guidelines to researchers in the area, as well as serve as a research reference for future studies on hurricane emergency transportation system response.

One of the areas most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic has been nursing education. This process not only has created many difficulties, but also has provided the educators with the opportunity to revise existing traditional education. Especially current problems such as providing motivation for learners and involving learners in the learning process in traditional face-to-face education have been discussed in the distance education process much more. In this context, for a learner-centered nursing education, there has been a process in which some educator roles have come to the fore. In addition, it has become important to the use of web-based tools compatible for learner-centered teaching strategies. In this article, it is aimed to contribute to the maintenance of quality in distance education, which will partially continue in education programs after the pandemic, by providing a framework on the roles of educators, learner-centered learning strategies and the use of suitable tools for these in distance education in nursing education.

Idea management process speeds up the innovation process by providing a systematic and manageable way of generating ideas vital to continues improvement and development within an organisation. There are many web-based tools that can support organisations with their idea management process. Based on the reviewed literature, currently there is no general model in literature that would support organisations in their idea management process based on the context. In this paper, authors describe the different idea management models based on the canvas model to account for the multidimensional context of web-based idea management systems. In prior research, authors have explored and identified the different idea management systems application types based on the different idea management systems classification types developed from the traditional business model canvas model. In this research, authors answer the following questions: What classifications based on the business model canvas could be created for idea management systems application, and how do these types manifest in real life? It is question that is identified a differences in the results, but form practical perspective understanding of different types could help for enterprises to choose the most appropriate one, but for IMS developers to enrich the types of IMS they are creating. In the literature there is only few attempt to classify IMS. Authors use the following research methods: a literature review (data collection: systematic data collection from scientific databases; data analysis: content analysis). Case study comprising data from over 100 enterprises with web-based idea management systems experience (data collection: case studies; data analysis: content analysis). To verify results 10 expert interviews were conducted. As a result, this research unlocks new value for idea management systems users and developers, as it shows the different idea management systems application types based on a specific business model canvas aspect. This resulted in the creation of 9 idea management systems classifications.

We here outline the importance of open-source, accessible tools for computer-aided drug discovery (CADD). We begin with a discussion of drug discovery in general to provide context for a subsequent discussion of structure-based CADD applied to small-molecule ligand discovery. Next, we identify usability challenges common to many open-source CADD tools. To address these challenges, we propose a browser-based approach to CADD tool deployment in which CADD calculations run in modern web browsers on users' local computers. The browser app approach eliminates the need for user-initiated download and installation, ensures broad operating system compatibility, enables easy updates, and provides a user-friendly graphical user interface. Unlike server apps—which run calculations "in the cloud" rather than on users' local computers—browser apps do not require users to upload proprietary information to a third-party (remote) server. They also eliminate the need for the difficult-to-maintain computer infrastructure required to run user-initiated calculations remotely. We conclude by describing some CADD browser apps developed in our lab, which illustrate the utility of this approach. Aside from introducing readers to these specific tools, we are hopeful that this review highlights the need for additional browser-compatible, user-friendly CADD software. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Because of its ubiquitous nature and catastrophic impacts, flood information should be readily available and continually evaluated, to maximize utility for the public and professionals. Web-based tools can fill existing needs for actionable information to inform decisions regarding flood damage mitigation for new and existing structures. The goal of this research is to identify the current capabilities, gaps, and future demands of Web-based flood communication systems. To understand the current and potential niche of Web-based flood tools, a review of the literature concerning the effectiveness of mass media, grassroots-based “citizen science” efforts, and social media in communicating flood risk is conducted. Then, the strengths of 50 major, freely-available, Web-based flood information portals are reviewed. Results suggest that mass media often provide actionable information, especially for short-term benefit immediately before, during, and immediately after the flood for individuals and community leaders. Citizen science and grassroots efforts encourage planning strategies to prevent or mitigate flood. Social media is most beneficial in raising awareness of the flood hazard and communicating short- and long-term mitigation and adaptation strategies. However, while mass media, citizen science, and social media have revolutionized the way that people plan for, survive, and recover from floods, their utility is largely restricted to addressing short-term information needs at the meso-scale or broader and/or conveying information about singular events to scientists and/or other professional interests. Actionable information to inform long-term planning and mitigating flood, for both the public and community leaders, remains lacking. A particular need is for communication mechanisms that satisfy several criteria simultaneously: wide broadcast, appealing delivery method, and focus on enhancing decision-making for long-term needs rather than solely for short-term benefit. Particularly useful would be a new, webtool that provides sufficient functionality to enhance flood risk reduction decision making, considering both the costs and benefits of mitigation.

Food safety and quality are pivotal to a country's economy and consumer health, with the whole food chain depending on its success. Hence, with immense progress in industrialization, the need arose to develop an integrated system constituting various essential elements to track, trace, and ensure food safety. The review reports various web-based tools and their integration for assessing food safety during each step of the food chain. Various research resources were ransacked to find articles on the current review. These included Google Scholar, journal articles, and other relevant sources with typical keywords and titles. Review data report about the feasibility of artificial intelligence and allied techniques, i.e., vision-based technology and machine learning, that includes the development of tailored algorithms for the food industry and food supply chain management. It also reports physical objects like sensors, devices, and food processing tools, which can be paired with the Internet to form the Internet of Things (IoT). Further, Big data pertains to a vast set of information from which complete data, patterns, and outcomes can be extracted. Blockchain is another important thing to share, store, and process authentic information, which securely reports every food processing step accordingly. Three is a network of tools called web-based resources, which are helpful for qualitatively and quantitatively predicting food safety and quality, thereby necessitating computer technology in food and nutrition science. Food-related hazards like toxins, pesticides, and heavy metals from food commodities like fruits, vegetables, and meats can be traced, reported, and eliminated. Introduction Web-based tools allowed the provision of psychological counseling and therapy at-distance during the COVID-19 lockdown. Nevertheless, psychologists’ attitudes towards the adoption of these tools and its impact in their professional practices need to be further explored. Objectives The objective was to study the use of web-based tools on psychological practices before and during COVID-19 lockdown, trying to identify changes on psychologists’ professional practices related to the pandemic, as well as to explore factors that could have affected such changes. Methods One-hundred and eight psychologists filled-in an online survey, developed for the purposes of this study, during mandatory lockdown. The study was disseminated by mailing list, social networks, and by the Portuguese Psychologists Association. Results The results have shown that psychologists kept providing their services during lockdown thanks to the adoption of web-based tools. Although psychologists have recognized that additional precautions were needed for at-distance practice in comparison to in-person interventions, the experience of using IC technologies in clinical practice was described as positive, ensuring clients’ adherence with positive results. Additionally, despite psychological services were maintained on a larger scale by psychologists with more years of experience, professionals with average experience stated more favorable attitudes towards the use of web-based tools in counseling and therapy. Conclusions Although the implementation of ICT based practice was enforced by current circumstances, the experience that psychologists gathered and shared during the lockdown can guide future professional practice, improving and fostering the replication of best practices at distance.

As client interactions with veterinary diagnostic laboratories have evolved, so have client expectations: faster results, enhanced accessibility to cases, and more seamless data transfer from the laboratory database; all of these factors have encouraged the evolution of diagnostic laboratory systems. This evolution started with 24-h access to laboratory results via the web, yet data quality remained at the mercy of the person filling out the form. If bad (incomplete) information was flowing in, then the data coming out was equally bad (incomplete or inconsistent). By designing a web-based system integrated into our existing reporting platform, the Iowa State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (ISU-VDL) set out to improve the quality of submission data by including the premises identification number (PIN) and obtaining consistent location data, all while presenting to the client an easy-to-use interface. Efforts continued by incentivizing the use of this tool and client submission practices. As clients transitioned, data have become more complete, resulting in easier queries and an improved ability to leverage the diagnostic data. To further enhance the client experience, a streamlined daily reporting summary was designed to communicate laboratory results succinctly. The use of these web-based tools had a positive impact on the quality and consistency of the diagnostic data. High digital connectivity and a focus on reproducibility are contributing to an open science revolution in neuroscience. Repositories and platforms have emerged across the whole spectrum of subdisciplines, paving the way for a paradigm shift in the way we share, analyze, and reuse vast amounts of data collected across many laboratories. Here, we describe how open access web-based tools are changing the landscape and culture of neuroscience, highlighting six free resources that span subdisciplines from behavior to whole-brain mapping, circuits, neurons, and gene variants. Over the past decades, different software programs have been developed for the Computer-Assisted Structure Elucidation (CASE) with NMR data using with various approaches. WebCocon is one of them that has been continuously improved over the past 20 years. Here, we present the inclusion of 4JCH correlations (4J-HMBC) in the HMBC interpretation of Cocon and NOE data in WebCocon. The 4J-HMBC data is used during the structure generation process, while the NOE data is used in post-processing of the results. The marine natural product oxocyclostylidol was selected to demonstrate WebCocon’s enhanced HMBC data processing capabilities. A systematic study of the 4JCH correlations of oxocyclostylidol was performed. The application of NOEs in CASE is demonstrated using the NOE correlations of the diterpene pyrone asperginol A known from the literature. As a result, we obtained a conformation that corresponds very well to the existing X-ray structure.

This paper describes the use of cyberinfrastructure to create interactive applications as part of the Useful to Usable (U2U) project. These applications transform historical climate data, knowledge, and models into decision support tools for end users such as crop farmers, university Extension educators, and other agricultural advisors. In creating a cyberinfrastructure to support the U2U project, four major challenges have been addressed: designing and developing highly usable web applications with frequent feedback, establishing a software engineering environment to support iterative development, integrating and synthesizing historical and current datasets from a variety of sources (local vs. remote, different access methods, and formats), and supporting project collaboration needs of data and document sharing, project management, and public outreach. The overall goals of the cyberinfrastructure and its architecture design are described. Methods for data retrieval and synthesis, as well as the various software components utilized are discussed. The development and integration of tools into the collaborative HUBzero framework are highlighted, including the use of HUBzero’s core features to share ideas, algorithms, and results. A highly iterative development process that includes feedback from experts and end-users to feed requirement definition, design and application updates are also examined.

The surveywas conducted on three foreign languagelearning websites that use Web 2.0 technology to gain an understanding of how current users of language learning websitesuse them for learning English and Frenchand explore the pedagogical and technicalusability and effectiveness of these sites.

DNA sequencing has allowed for the discovery of the genetic cause for a considerable number of diseases, paving the way for new disease diagnostics. However, due to the lack of clinical samples and records, the molecular cause for rare diseases is always hard to identify, significantly limiting the number of rare Mendelian diseases diagnosed through sequencing technologies. Clinical phenotype information therefore becomes a major resource to diagnose rare diseases. In this article, we adopted both a phenotypic similarity method and a machine learning method to build four diagnostic models to support rare disease diagnosis. All the diagnostic models were validated using the real medical records from RAMEDIS. Each model provides a list of the top 10 candidate diseases as the prediction outcome and the results showed that all models had a high diagnostic precision (≥98%) with the highest recall reaching up to 95% while the models with machine learning methods showed the best performance. To promote effective diagnosis for rare disease in clinical application, we developed the phenotype-based Rare Disease Auxiliary Diagnosis system (RDAD) to assist clinicians in diagnosing rare diseases with the above four diagnostic models. The panel discussion ‘Traditional methods v. new technologies: dilemmas for dietary assessment in population surveys’, was held at the 9th International Conference on Diet and Activity Methods (ICDAM9), Brisbane, September 2015. Despite respondent and researcher burden, traditional methods have been most commonly used in nutrition surveys. However, dietary assessment technologies offer potential advantages including faster data processing and better data quality. This is a fast-moving field and there is evidence of increasing demand for the use of new technologies amongst the general public and researchers. There is a need for research and investment to support efforts being made to facilitate the inclusion of new technologies for rapid, accurate and representative data.

Background: Web-based tools for people with dementia and their family caregivers have considerably increased over the years and offer promising solutions to several unmet needs such as supporting self-care in daily life, facilitating treatment delivery, or ensuring their ability to communicate. The use of web-based tools in the field of advance care planning (ACP) for people with dementia and their family caregivers has yet to be explored and requires careful consideration, given the sensitive topic and the specific needs of people with dementia and their families., Objective: This paper reports the protocol for a study aiming to develop and simultaneously test the usability of an ACP website designed for, and with, people with dementia and their families., Methods: The development of the website is based on a process map for the development of web-based decision support interventions and on the Medical Research Council framework for complex intervention development and evaluation. Additionally, we apply a user-centered approach in combination with patient and public involvement (PPI) throughout the development process. We describe our iterative development approach to the website. Participants and a PPI group give feedback on 4 prototypes of the ACP website. For each iteration, we aim to include 12 participants (3 people with dementia, 3 family caregivers, and 3 dyads) in usability testing. In the first 3 iterations, usability testing includes (1) a think-aloud exercise, (2) researcher observations, and (3) the System Usability Scale questionnaire. The last iteration of usability testing is composed of a semistructured interview assessing the layout, content, face validity, and readability of the website. Qualitative data from the think-aloud exercises and interviews are analyzed using thematic analysis. Mean scores are calculated for the System Usability Scale questionnaire., Results: This study received approval from the Ethical Review Board of Brussels University Hospital of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Recruitment began in October 2021. The target date for paper submission of the results of the development and usability testing will be in 2023., Conclusions: The methods in this protocol describe a feasible and inclusive approach to the development of an ACP website together with people with dementia, their family caregivers, and other stakeholders. We provide a clear overview of how to combine PPI input and user-centered development methods, leading to a transparent and reliable development process. This protocol might stimulate the active participation of people with dementia, their caregivers, and regional stakeholders in future studies on web-based technologies. MicroRNAs (miRNAs/miRs) are a family of small, endogenous and evolutionarily-conserved non-coding RNAs that are involved in the regulation of several cellular and functional processes. miRNAs can act as oncogenes or tumor suppressors in all types of cancer, and could be used as prognostic and diagnostic biomarkers. Databases and computational algorithms are behind the majority of the research performed on miRNAs. These tools assemble and curate the relevant information on miRNAs and present it in a user-friendly manner. The current review presents 14 online databases that address every aspect of miRNA cancer research. Certain databases focus on miRNAs and a particular type of cancer, while others analyze the behavior of miRNAs in different malignancies at the same time. Additional databases allow researchers to search for mutations in miRNAs or their targets, and to review the naming history of a particular miRNA. All these databases are open-access, and are a valuable tool for those researchers working with these molecules, particularly those who lack access to an advanced computational infrastructure. Although flipped classroom is a new pedagogical model, it has emerged frequently in recent years. In this model, low level skill 'knowledge acquisition' is allocated to the students. Such activities that require high-level skills as application and problem solving are carried out under the guidance of teacher. When the relevant literature reviewed, many studies examining the definition, advantages and disadvantages of this model, experimental studies and model applications have been found. However, such resources compiling and introducing tools can be used to make the flipped classroom model effective and overcome disadvantages. The present study provides information about the tools which can be used in any stage of the flipped classroom model and introduce these tools in detail with the aim of filling the deficiencies. Moreover the selected instruments are evaluated in terms of their compatibility with mobile technologies. Literature review method was used in the study. In this context, particularly disadvantages of the model have been identified in the literature area and it addressed the means to overcome these limitations. Also, content analysis data that were compiled between the years 2010-2015 was carried out in the framework of flipped classroom models are also used in this study. This aspect of the research is like a guide that enables flipped classroom enhanced by mobile technologies which are necessary for learning in times of need, time and place independent. Through offered mobile learning-oriented information, learner's needs will be met. In this context, tools for eliminating the disadvantages of this model discussed in the relevant literature are selected in particular.
