4. Assessment of Impact of Use of Renewable Energy Sources on Level of Energy Poverty in EU Countries.

Abstract

The share of renewable energy sources (RES) in the global energy system is systematically increasing, making them the most important element of the energy transformation. Their use enables rational management of limited resources, reduction of environmental pollution, and has a significant inhibitory effect on energy poverty by improving energy efficiency. The aim of this article is to assess the impact of the use of renewable energy on the level of energy poverty in the European Union countries in 2010, 2015, and 2022. A taxonomic measure of development based on the Weber median was used to examine the relationship between the results achieved by individual EU member states in terms of the impact of the use of renewable energy on the level of energy poverty. The research results clearly indicate the existence of disproportions between the countries of the "old" EU and the countries that joined it in 2004 and later. These disproportions concern both the use of energy obtained from renewable sources and energy poverty. In the countries of the "old" Union, a positive moderate relationship was identified between the use of renewable energy and energy poverty, which means that a higher share of the use of energy from renewable sources in these countries reduces energy poverty. In the countries of the "new" Union, however, this relationship was very weak (2010) or non-existent. Since the renewable energy sector is subject to government policy and regulations, the results presented in this paper should be of interest to decision-makers. A stable, long-term policy should provide an appropriate investment climate that provides support for renewable energy projects and reduces the level of energy poverty. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

5. The Impact of the Production and Consumption of Renewable Energy on Economic Growth—The Case of Poland.

Abstract

In the last decade, rapid technological development and a simultaneous increase in social awareness related to environmental protection have been determinants of the research and development of new techniques for generating energy from renewable sources. The international situation after 24 February 2022 in turn caused an increase in demand for energy that can be generated locally. This trend has not bypassed Poland either, where dynamic development of the market related to generating energy from renewable sources has been observed for many years. The aim of this article is to identify regularities in the degree of impact of the production and consumption of renewable energy on economic growth in Poland in 2005–2022. In this study, we used power econometric models. The results obtained by the authors show that energy consumption including renewable energy affects economic growth. In Poland, in the period under review, the increase in the consumption and production of energy from renewable sources, both on a national scale and on the scale of separate regions (city agglomerations, towns and suburbs, rural areas), contributed to the increase in measures characterizing economic development. Abstract

In the paper the author makes a classification of the Construction Sector companies that are listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The classification is made with a view to identify those companies whose financial standing in the years of study (2007, 2009 and 2011) was good or bad from the point of view of several selected ratios. The classification is based on the inquiry into the stability of final diagnoses of the companies’ financial standing. The final diagnoses were founded on the median from partial diagnoses which had been created in the course of a two-element diagnostic process where the real values of the companies’ financial indices were compared with theoretical and empirical norms.

Abstract

Background: We aimed to evaluate differences in outcome between patients admitted to intensive care unit (ICU) after elective versus acute surgery in a multinational cohort of very old patients (80 years; VIP). Predictors of mortality, with special emphasis on frailty, were assessed. Methods: In total, 5063 VIPs were induded in this analysis, 922 were admitted after elective surgery or intervention, 4141 acutely, with 402 after acute surgery. Differences were calculated using Mann-Whitney-U test and Wilcoxon test. Univariate and multivariable logistic regression were used to assess associations with mortality. Results: Compared patients admitted after acute surgery, patients admitted after elective surgery suffered less often from frailty as defined as CFS (28% vs 46%; p < 0.001), evidenced lower SOFA scores (4 +/- 5 vs 7 +/- 7; p < 0.001). Presence of frailty (CFS >4) was associated with significantly increased mortality both in elective surgery patients (7% vs 12%; p = 0.01), in acute surgery (7% vs 12%; p = 0.02). Conclusions: VIPs admitted to ICU after elective surgery evidenced favorable outcome over patients after acute surgery even after correction for relevant confounders. Frailty might be used to guide clinicians in risk stratification in both patients admitted after elective and acute surgery.

Abstract

The aim of this thesis was to evaluate if the students of universities of Bydgoszcz know the principles of proper nutrition and whether or not they follow them. The study was conducted on a group of 100 students of the universities of Bydgoszcz, 77 women and 23 men between the ages of 19 and 25. The study was carried out in the first half of 2014 using a survey method. Conclusions. Knowledge of rational nutrition and the principles of healthy eating among students of Bydgoszcz universities is quite varied and depends on the field of study. The best eating habits are characterized by technical and art faculties. Students of medical faculties and health sciences are not leaders in this field. More irregularities relating to the quality of diet is observed among students of humanities and social sciences. Celem pracy była ocena czy studenci bydgoskich uczelni znają zasady racjonalnego żywienia, oraz czy ich przestrzegają. Badaniem objętych zostało 100 osób będących studentami bydgoskich uczelni, a wśród nich 77 kobiet i 23 mężczyzn w wieku od 19 do 25 roku życia. Badanie zostało przeprowadzone w I półroczu 2014 r. metodą ankietową. Wnioski. Wiedza na temat racjonalnego żywienia i przestrzeganie zasad zdrowego żywienia wśród studentów bydgoskich uczelni jest dość zróżnicowane i zależy od kierunku studiów. Najlepszymi nawykami żywieniowymi charakteryzują się kierunki techniczne, oraz kierunki artys-tyczne. Studenci kierunków medycznych i nauk o zdrowiu nie są liderami w tym zakresie. Więcej nieprawidłowości wiążących się z jakością diety obserwuje się wśród studentów kierunków humanistycznych i związanych z naukami społecznymi.

Celem badań jest zwrócenie uwagi na oczekiwania studentów i pracodawców względem procesu nauczania, który powinien przygotować absolwentów uczelni do pracy zawodowej. Jest to szczególnie istotne w sytuacji, w której stopa bezrobocia w Polsce wśród osób w wieku 15–24 lata w IV kwartale 2013 roku wynosiła 27,3%1. Znajomość tych oczekiwań może być pomocna dla nauczycieli akademickich, którzy aby sprostać nowym wyzwaniom edukacyjnym, powinni dostosować zarówno treści, jak i formy nauczania do potrzeb zmieniającego się ustawicznie rynku pracy. Artykuł składa się z dwóch części. W części pierwszej zaprezentowano wyniki badań ankietowych przeprowadzonych wśród kandydatów na studia i absolwentów Zachodniopomorskiego Uniwersytetu Technologicznego (ZUT) w Szczecinie oraz wśród pracodawców, którzy przyjmują studentów na praktyki bądź zatrudniają absolwentów. W drugiej części przedstawiono wyniki ankiety przeprowadzonej wśród studentów dziennych i zaocznych Wydziału Ekonomicznego ZUT w Szczecinie. The aim of the study is to draw attention to the expectations of students and employers on the teaching process, which should prepare graduates for work. This is particularly important in a situation where the unemployment rate among young people is very high. The knowledge of these expectations may be helpful for teachers who have to meet the new educational challenges and should customize both the content and form of teaching to the needs of the constantly changing labour market. The article consists of two parts. The first part presents the results of surveys conducted among candidates and graduates of the West Pomeranian University of Technology (ZUT) in Szczecin and among employers who accept students for practice or employ graduates. The second part presents the results of a survey conducted among students of full-time and extramural studies of the ZUT Faculty of Economics in Szczecin. In the article was conducted indirect control of the learning process based on learning outcomes of compulsory and directional subjects, which are realized on the first degree of full-time studies of Economics in the Faculty of Economics of West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin. Learning process was evaluated through: - analysis of the distribution of grades obtained in the exam of the compulsory subjects for all students (to detect anomalies in the process of assessing the degree of assimilation of knowledge by over- or undervaluation of marks); - application of Ward method to identify similar groups of subjects in respect of obtained marks; - analysis of the relationship between grades obtained in completion and exams for the same subject (to detect significant differences in the grading system).
