Hereditary angioedema (HAE) with normal C1 inhibitor (C1-INH) (HAE-nC1-INH) is a rare disease that presents with laryngeal edema due to oral surgical procedures. Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is a disorder commonly characterized by an autosomal recessive inflammatory process, and manifests in the oral cavity and facial structures. A 50-year-old woman with HAE-nC1-INH and FMF was referred to our department for bone augmentation in the right maxillary molar region. We performed lateral window sinus augmentation under the backup support of an anesthesiologist. A hematologist used intravenous Berinert® and oral Orladeyo® to prevent perioperative angioedema attacks. The postoperative course was uneventful. Regarding surgical intervention in patients with HAE, interdepartmental cooperation is crucial to prevent angioedema attacks and prepare for life-threatening complications. Oral hygiene and occlusion should be considered in the dental implant treatment of patients with FMF. Intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia (IPEH) is a benign lesion characterized by reactive proliferation of endothelial cells with papillary formations related to thrombosed blood vessels. IPEH in the oral region is relatively rare, and its clinical picture is not specific. Herein, we report the case of a patient with IPEH of the upper lip who had a favorable outcome. A man in his 40 s presented to our department with a nodule beneath the right upper labial mucosa. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a relatively well-defined mass. Based on the diagnosis of a benign tumor, a total excision with healthy margins was performed. Histopathological and immunohistochemical findings revealed a pure form of IPEH with a Ki-67 labeling index of 20%. No recurrence was observed 1 year postoperatively. Although IPEH in the oral region is relatively rare, and its clinical presentation is nonspecific, based on the clinical diagnosis of benign tumors, adequate excision with clear margins can reduce the risk of recurrence. As Ki-67 can be used to predict the biological behavior and risk of IPEH recurrence, careful follow-up considering the risk of recurrence suggested by the Ki-67 labeling index is needed. Cervid populations introduced to favorable habitats in confinement often increase excessively without predators and hunting. Overabundant deer populations impact the ecosystems and may cause damages to agriculture and forestry. Long‐term count data on the changes in a deer population is essential to understand the relationship between the population dynamics and the natural vegetation. The introduced sika deer (Cervus nippon Temminck, 1836) population without predators on Nakanoshima Island, Hokkaido, Japan, showed repeated irruptions and declines with mass mortality and irregular culling between 1980s and 2000s. The overabundant deer significantly altered the natural vegetation, and density‐dependent changes in population parameters such as body size and reproduction were observed. Here, we present the drive count and culling data to examine the population dynamics during 1980–2023. Deer were counted by 20–30 walking drivers and 2–3 observers on boats once per year in February or March. The number of counted deer rapidly increased from the original three introduced around 1960 to >270 deer (the first peak) in two decades and decreased by half due to starvation and the first culling. Thereafter, the number of counted deer continued to increase with a lower growth rate, reached a higher peak (>400, the second peak) than the first irruption in two decades, and decreased again by half due to starvation and the second culling. Although the number of counted deer increased again up to >300 in several years, it decreased and was maintained at around 100 deer with the annual culling program since 2012. Ingestion of even small quantities of Arisaema serratum , a woodland perennial endemic to Japan, can be extremely toxic. History taking may provide a clue for diagnosis of stomatitis or other conditions related to this ingestion; however, the treatment is usually supportive therapy. Herein, we report a case of stomatitis caused by the ingestion of Arisaema serratum. A man in his 30 s presented to our department with significant oral pain and swelling after ingesting a fruit. The patient identified the fruit as Arisaema serratum from a pictorial book of flora. He was consequently diagnosed with stomatitis caused by Arisaema serratum and administered antihistamine, antiplasmin, and corticosteroids, following which, he was asymptomatic for approximately one month. Serious organ damage was not observed, and the antihistamines and antiplasmin for treating the oral symptoms appeared to be effective. In cases of accidental ingestion of toxic plants, differential diagnosis considering the clinical situation and careful treatment are required. Increasing the awareness about toxic plants is crucial. Aims: Cyclosporin A (CyA) has potent inhibitory activity on organic anion transporting polypeptide 1B (OATP1B), causing drug–drug interactions with its substrate drugs. 3‐carboxy‐4‐methyl‐5‐propyl‐2‐furanpropionate (CMPF), a uraemic toxin, has also been suggested to inhibit OATP1B activity. Recent study has identified coproporphyrin‐I (CP‐I) as a specific endogenous substrate for OATP1B, which is useful to indicate OATP1B activity. We investigated the relationship of CP‐I with CyA and CMPF concentrations in patients taking CyA. Methods: In total, 121 blood samples from 74 patients who took CyA and underwent routine therapeutic drug monitoring were divided into trough and peak samples. Results: CyA and CP‐I concentrations were significantly higher in peak samples than in trough samples. A positive correlation between CP‐I and CyA concentrations was found in all samples and in trough and peak samples, while no correlation was observed between CP‐I and CMPF concentrations. Multiple regression analysis identified CyA and C‐reactive protein concentrations as independent factors affecting CP‐I concentration, with blood CyA concentration having markedly greater contribution to plasma CP‐I concentration. Conclusion: The present study suggests that CyA inhibits OATP1B activity in a concentration‐dependent manner in clinical setting, and that dose adjustment of OATP1B substrate drugs coadministered with CyA according to plasma CMPF concentration may not be necessary.
