19. Thermomigration Microstructure and Properties of Ni Nanoparticle-Reinforced Sn58Bi Composite Solder/Cu Solder Joint.

Abstract

A Sn58Bi composite solder reinforced by Ni nanoparticles was prepared using a mechanical mixing technique, and the thermomigration microstructure and properties of the solder joints were studied. The findings indicate that incorporating an appropriate quantity of Ni nanoparticles can enhance the microstructure of the composite solder and mitigate the coarsening of Bi-phase segregation. At 0.75 weight percent Ni nanoparticle content, the composite solder's tensile strength is 59.7 MPa and its elongation is 54.6%, both of which are noticeably greater than those of the base solder. When the thermal loading time is 576 h, the shear strength of the composite solder joint is 25.5 MPa, which is 30.1% higher than that of the base solder joint. This study reveals that the shear fracture path shifts from the boundary region between the solder seam and the IMC layer to the IMC layer itself. Concurrently, the fracture mode evolves from a mix of brittle–ductile fracture, characterized by quasi-cleavage, to a predominantly brittle fracture, marked by numerous "rock candy-like" cross-sectional features and secondary cracking. 34. Effect of ZrO 2 Particles on the Microstructure and Ultrasonic Cavitation Properties of CoCrFeMnNi High-Entropy Alloy Composite Coatings.

Abstract

CoCrFeMnNi-XZrO2 (X is a mass percentage, X = 1, 3, 5, and 10) high-entropy alloy composite coatings were successfully prepared on 0Cr13Ni5Mo martensitic stainless steel substrates using laser cladding technology. The phase composition, microstructure, mechanical properties, and cavitation erosion behavior of the composite coatings under different contents of ZrO2 were studied. The mechanism of ZrO2 particle-reinforced cavitation corrosion resistance was studied using ABAQUS2023 finite element software. The results show that the phase structure of the composite coating organization is composed of FCC phase reinforced by ZrO2 phase. The addition of ZrO2 causes lattice distortion. The coatings have typical branch crystals and an equiaxed crystal microstructure. With the increase in ZrO2 content, the microhardness of the composite coatings gradually increases. When X = 10%, the coating's microhardness reached 348 HV, which was 95.53% higher than the high-entropy alloys without ZrO2 added. Adding ZrO2 can prolong the incubation period of high-entropy alloys; the high-entropy alloy composite coating with 5 wt.% ZrO2 exhibited the best cavitation resistance, with a cumulative volume loss rate of only 15.74% of the substrate after 10 h of ultrasonic cavitation erosion. The simulation results indicate that ZrO2 can withstand higher stress and deformation in cavitation erosion, reduce the degree of substrate damage, and generate higher compressive stress on the coating surface to cope with cavitation erosion. Abstract

The restoration of large support rollers poses an industrial challenge due to the high energy consumption of traditional repair methods. Consequently, a novel approach for repairing support rollers has been introduced and tested on thick-walled components. Finite element simulations aided the study of welding repairs for large thick-walled components, examining element distribution, microstructure, mechanical properties, and residual stress distribution across various processes. The results indicate that employing ABAQUS2023 finite element software to analyze stress variations under different working conditions, the Dynamically Controlled Low-Stress No-Distortion method effectively mitigates residual stresses both during and post welding, reducing average transverse residual stresses by 14.5% and average longitudinal residual stresses in the weld zone by 29.1%. The Dynamically Controlled Low-Stress No-Distortion method narrows the high-temperature range of the heat source, consequently decreasing the size of the heat-affected zone by 33.3% compared to conventional welding. The microstructure featured dendrites and equiaxed columnar crystals, with the Dynamically Controlled Low-Stress No-Distortion method capable of grain refinement, transforming some equiaxed columnar crystals into cellular structures. As grains were refined, microhardness improved, with the covering layer's microhardness rising by 14.68%. A comparison between simulated and measured values of lateral and longitudinal residual stresses at corresponding points revealed discrepancies of 14.6% and 20.5% in accuracy, respectively. 41. Insight into the Keratin Ratio Effect of the Keratin/Cellulose Composite Fiber

Abstract

In this work, biocompatible composite fibers were prepared from human hair keratin and plant cellulose with different proportions by the wet-spinning method, and their properties and performance, including chemical structures, morphology, mechanical strength, and cell proliferation and attachment, were systematically investigated. It showed that the best proportion of the keratin/cellulose mass ratio was 30:70, and its tensile strength reached 277 MPa (elongation at break can be 27%), which is higher than that of the regenerated cellulose fiber (193 MPa, 12%). Its viability and proliferation of L929 murine fibroblast cells are also better than those of the regenerated cellulose fiber. Atomistic simulations were carried out and demonstrated the formation of hydrogen bonds between keratin and cellulose molecules, clarifying that the ratio of keratin has a significant effect on the aggregation structures in the solution and that the hydrogen bonds formed between keratin and cellulose molecules have a distinct contribution to the biocompatible composites. 42. Molecular insights into the nanoconfinement effect on the structure and dynamics of ionic liquids in carbon nanotubes

Abstract

The properties and applications of ionic liquids (ILs) have been widely investigated when they are confined within nanochannels such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The confined ILs exhibit very different properties from their bulk state due to a nanoconfinement effect, which plays an important role in the performances of devices with ILs. In this work, we studied the effect of the charge carried by CNTs on confined ILs inside CNTs using molecular dynamics simulations. In charged CNTs, cations and anions are distributed separately along the radial directions, and the transition of orientations of the cations between parallel and vertical to CNTs occurs by changing the charge state of CNTs. The number of hydrogen bonds (HBs) formed by the confined ILs can be reduced by switching the surface charge of CNTs from positive to negative due to the contact modes between cations and anions as well as the distributions of cations in CNTs. The diffusivities along and vertical to the axial direction of CNTs were found to be non-monotonic owing to the "trade-off" effect from both ion pair interlocking and anchoring ILs on the CNT walls. Additionally, the region-dependent dynamics of ILs were also related to the intermolecular interactions in different regions of CNTs. Furthermore, the vibrational modes of ILs were obviously influenced in highly charged CNTs as determined by calculating the density of vibrational states, which demonstrated the transitions in the structure and interactions. The density distributions changed from single layer to double layers when increasing the pore size of neutral CNTs while the hydrogen bonds exhibited a non-monotonic tendency versus the pore sizes. Our results might help to understand the structure and dynamics of confined ILs as well as aid optimizing the performance of devices with ILs. Abstract

By substituting the Fe with the 4d and 5d-transition metals Rh, Ir and Pd in SrFe_2As_2, we have successfully synthesized a series of superconductors SrFe_{2-x}M_xAs_2 (M = Rh, Ir and Pd) and explored the phase diagrams of them. The systematic evolution of the lattice constants indicated that part of the Fe ions were successfully replaced by the transition metals Rh, Ir and Pd. By increasing the doping content of Rh, Ir and Pd, the antiferromagnetic state of the parent phase is suppressed progressively and superconductivity is induced. The general phase diagrams were obtained and found to be similar to the case of doping Co and Ni to the Fe sites. However, the detailed structure of the phase diagram, in terms of how fast to suppress the antiferromagnetic order and induce the superconductivity, varies from one kind of doped element to another. Regarding the close values of the maximum superconducting transition temperatures in doping Co, Rh and Ir which locate actually in the same column in the periodic table of elements but have very different masses, we argue that the superconductivity is intimately related to the suppression of the AF order, rather than the electron-phonon coupling., Comment: 8 pages, 8 figures.
