Abstract Ginsenosides, the bioactive components of ginseng, can be divided into two major groups, namely 20(S)-protopanaxatriol (e.g. Re, Rg1, Rg2, and Rb3) and 20(S)-protopanaxadiol (e.g. Rb1, Rb2, Rc, and Rd). Biological and environmental factors may affect the content of ginsenosides in different parts of ginseng plant. Evidence from pharmacokinetic and metabolic studies of Re demonstrated that (1) the absorption of Re is fast in gastrointestinal tract; (2) Re may be metabolized mainly to Rh1 and F1 by intestinal microflora before absorption into blood; and (3) Re is quickly cleared from the body.

Traditional pesticide emulsion formulation may exert deleterious effects on the environment and even induce stress on nontarget crops in the vicinity. In this study, γ-cyclodextrin (γ-CD)-encapsulated azobenzene derivative nanovesicles were synthesized and loaded with pendimethalin to obtain pendimethalin-loaded γ-CD/azobenzene derivative nanovesicles. Upon exposure to ultraviolet irradiation or sunlight, the azobenzene derivatives are converted from the trans- to cis- configuration, leading to the dissociation of the ternary host–guest complexes, resulting in the vesicle rupture and the subsequent release of pendimethalin. Further investigations were conducted on the γ-CD/azobenzene nanovesicles. According to the release characteristics of herbicides, the release rate of pendimethalin under ultraviolet light (365 nm) or sunlight conditions reached 88.3 ± 3%, which was 4.3 times higher than that under dark conditions, demonstrating excellent photocontrolled release behavior. Pot experiments showed that the herbicidal activity of pendimethalin-loaded nanovesicles against Portulaca oleracea (L.) and Echinochloa crusgalli (L.) Beauv. at the recommended dose was comparable to that of the pendimethalin technical under illuminated conditions. Furthermore, genotoxicity experiments reveal a notable increase in the mitotic index of onion root tip cells treated with pendimethalin-loaded nanovesicles, indicating that it had minimal inhibitory effect on cell metabolism and the genotoxicity was lower than that of pendimethalin technical. Pendimethalin-loaded nanovesicles exhibited favorable stability and photoresponsive performance. These findings reveal a promising avenue for responsive material design and release modulation using such nanovesicle systems, providing insights into their potential applications in targeted pesticide delivery systems. Low power density and low heating rate are the key constraints for the development of conductive polymer materials in the field of electric heating. The carbon nanotubes (CNTs)–graphene (GR)–polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) composite film was prepared by vacuum filtration and spin coating to solve the problem in this study. Moreover, an AC electric field was used to orient the CNTs to enhance the electrothermal performance. The structure and properties of composite films were analyzed. The results show that the composite film with CNT:GR = 2:1 has the lowest permeation threshold, and can heat up within 30 s and stabilize at 260 °C at 10 V. The electric field-oriented CNTs reduced the insulating polymer layer, increasing the heating rate of the composite film by 1.2 times, and increasing the theoretical thermal conductivity. The flexible electrothermal composite film prepared in this study can be used in thermal insulation, deicing, and wearable electronic devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, electret treatment was used to enhance the electrostatic repulsion between the membrane and bovine serum albumin, so as to improve the anti‐fouling ability and recycling rate of the membrane. The polarization charge is provided by the dipole orientation of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) materials, and the space charge is composed of the interfacial charge between the filler and the matrix and the bulk charge of the hollow structure of the multi‐walled carbon nanotubes. The results showed that after electret treatment, the surface potential of the membrane increased, the PVDF crystal type changed from α to β, and the crystallinity increased. Grafting of N‐vinylpyrrolidone onto multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs‐g‐PVP), which contain a large number of hydrophilic groups after modification, reduces the contact angle of the composite film from 86.9° to 62.7°. The pure water flux and flux recovery rate of MWCNTs‐g‐PVP/PVDF composite membranes after electret treatment was increased from 189.31 L·m−2·h−1 and 90% to 233.55 L·m−2·h−1 and 94.7%, respectively, and the rejection rate increased about 30%. Through the circulation experiment, it can be seen that the anti‐fouling performance and recycling rate of the membrane is improved, which is caused by electrostatic repulsion. Metabolic suppression in the ischemic heart is characterized by reduced levels of NAD+ and ATP. Since NAD+ is required for most metabolic processes that generate ATP, we hypothesized that nicotinamide restores ischemic tissue NAD+ and improves cardiac function in cardiomyocytes and isolated hearts, and enhances survival in a mouse model of cardiac arrest. Mouse cardiomyocytes were exposed to 30 min simulated ischemia and 90 min reperfusion. NAD+ content dropped 40% by the end of ischemia compared to pre-ischemia. Treatment with 100 μM nicotinamide (NAM) at the start of reperfusion completely restored the cellular level of NAD+ at 15 min of reperfusion. This rescue of NAD+ depletion was associated with improved contractile recovery as early as 10 min post-reperfusion. In a mouse model of cardiac arrest, 100 mg/kg NAM administered IV immediately after cardiopulmonary resuscitation resulted in 100% survival at 4 h as compared to 50% in the saline group. In an isolated rat heart model, the effect of NAM on cardiac function was measured for 20 min following 18 min global ischemia. Rate pressure product was reduced by 26% in the control group following arrest. Cardiac contractile function was completely recovered with NAM treatment given at the start of reperfusion. NAM restored tissue NAD+ and enhanced production of lactate and ATP, while reducing glucose diversion to sorbitol in the heart. We conclude that NAM can rapidly restore cardiac NAD+ following ischemia and enhance glycolysis and contractile recovery, with improved survival in a mouse model of cardiac arrest. T1–T2 multi-modality submicron particles were widely used in clinic imaging, biochemical analysis and biosensor. Here, we prepared a new magnetic submicron particle through the spatial-gap of cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) dispersion as a template.The obtained submicron particles were ellipsoid and had a better magnetic response and relaxation effects. By varying the Fe(acac)3 to Gd(acac)3 ratio, it was possible to tune the surface morphology, crystal structure and T1–T2 relaxation effect. More importantly, the pre-drying and burning process had influence on the polycrystalline growth process of Fe(acac)3 and Gd(acac)3 mixture, and the slow removal process for the CNC template could endow the compounds with different relaxation effects. By using the spatial-gap of the cellulose nanocrystal dispersion as a template makes it possible to fabricate T1–T2 multi-modality crystalline submicron particles directly and is promising for preparing other CNC-templating based functional materials. A spectroscopic system for continuous real-time monitoring of S[O.sub.2] concentrations in industrial emissions was developed. The sensor is well suited for field applications due to simple and compact instrumental design, and robust data evaluation based on ultraviolet broadband absorption without the use of any calibration cell. The sensor has a detection limit of 1 ppm, and was employed both for gas-flow simulations with and without suspended particles, and for in situ measurement of S[O.sub.2] concentrations in the flue gas emitted from an industrial coal-fired boiler.
