We perform deep variational free energy calculations to investigate the dense hydrogen system at 1200 K and high pressures. In this computational framework, neural networks are used to model the free energy through the proton Boltzmann distribution and the electron wavefunction. By directly minimizing the free energy, our results reveal the emergence of a crystalline order associated with the center of mass of hydrogen molecules at approximately 180 GPa. This transition from atomic liquid to a molecular solid is marked by discontinuities in both the pressure and thermal entropy. Additionally, we discuss the broader implications and limitations of these findings in the context of recent studies of dense hydrogen under similar conditions.

Large Language Models (LLMs) have advanced the capability of game agents in social deduction games (SDGs). These games rely heavily on conversation-driven interactions and require agents to infer, make decisions, and express based on such information. While this progress leads to more sophisticated and strategic non-player characters (NPCs) in SDGs, there exists a need to control the proficiency of these agents. This control not only ensures that NPCs can adapt to varying difficulty levels during gameplay, but also provides insights into the safety and fairness of LLM agents. In this paper, we present DVM, a novel framework for developing controllable LLM agents for SDGs, and demonstrate its implementation on one of the most popular SDGs, Werewolf. DVM comprises three main components: Predictor, Decider, and Discussor. By integrating reinforcement learning with a win rate-constrained decision chain reward mechanism, we enable agents to dynamically adjust their gameplay proficiency to achieve specified win rates. Experiments show that DVM not only outperforms existing methods in the Werewolf game, but also successfully modulates its performance levels to meet predefined win rate targets. We study non-Abelian fractional quantum Hall state in double layer systems at total filling factor $1/2$. Recent progresses in two-dimensional van der Waals materials made it possible to explore the regime with very small interlayer distance. Numerical calculations suggests interlayer phase coherence can develop between the layers such that the electrons may redistribute between them without changing the Hall response. It corresponds to spontaneous breaking of the U(1) symmetry associated with the particle number difference in the layers. This state manifests itself as superfluid in counterflow measurement and has characteristic Hall response when current is passed through one layer and voltages in both layers are measured. As the interlayer distance increases, a phase transition into the Halperin 331 state occurs. The leaky dielectric model is widely used in simulating two-phase electrohydrodynamic (EHD) flows. One critical issue with this classical model is the assumption of Ohmic conduction, which makes it inadequate for describing the newly discovered EHD flows caused by the Onsager-Wien effect [Ryu et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 104, 104502 (2010)]. In this paper, we proposed a phase-field lattice Boltzmann (LB) method for two-phase electrohydrodynamic flows induced by the Onsager-Wien effect. In this scheme, two LB equations are employed to resolve the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and the conservative Allen-Cahn equation, while another three LB equations are used for solving the charge conservation equations and the electric potential equation. After we validate the developed LB method, we perform a series of numerical simulations of droplet deformation under EHD conduction phenomena. Our numerical results indicate that the presence of the Onsager-Wien effect has a significant impact on droplet deformation and charge distribution. Also, it is interesting to note that, apart from the heterocharge layers near the electrodes, a charge cloud may form between the droplet interface and the electrode in some cases. To thoroughly understand the droplet dynamics, the effects of the reference length d, the applied voltage {\Delta}{\psi}, the permittivity ratio {\epsilon}r, and the ionic mobility ratio {\mu}r on droplet deformation and charge distribution are all investigated in detail.

The anisotropic Cahn-Hilliard equation is often used to model the formation of faceted pyramids on nanoscale crystal surfaces. In comparison to the isotropic Cahn-Hilliard model, the nonlinear terms associated with strong anisotropic coefficients present challenges for developing an effective numerical scheme. In this work, we propose a multiple-relaxation-time lattice Boltzmann method to solve the anisotropic Cahn-Hilliard equation. To this end, we reformulate the original equation into a nonlinear convection-diffusion equation with source terms. Then the modified equilibrium distribution function and source terms are incorporated into the computations. Through Chapman-Enskog analysis, it successfully recovers the macroscopic governing equation. To validate the proposed approach, we perform numerical simulations, including cases like droplet deformation and spinodal decomposition. These results consistent with available works, confirming the effectiveness of the proposed approach. Furthermore, the simulations demonstrate that the model adheres to the energy dissipation law, further highlighting the effectiveness of the developed lattice Boltzmann method.

There has been widespread use of causal inference methods for the rigorous analysis of observational studies and to identify policy evaluations. In this article, we consider coarsened exact matching, developed in Iacus et al. (2011). While they developed some statistical properties, in this article, we study the approach using asymptotics based on a superpopulation inferential framework. This methodology is generalized to what we termed as coarsened confounding, for which we propose two new algorithms. We develop asymptotic results for the average causal effect estimator as well as providing conditions for consistency. In addition, we provide an asymptotic justification for the variance formulae in Iacus et al. (2011). Skeleton-based action recognition has gained significant attention for its ability to efficiently represent spatiotemporal information in a lightweight format. Most existing approaches use graph-based models to process skeleton sequences, where each pose is represented as a skeletal graph structured around human physical connectivity. Among these, the Spatiotemporal Graph Convolutional Network (ST-GCN) has become a widely used framework. Alternatively, hypergraph-based models, such as the Hyperformer, capture higher-order correlations, offering a more expressive representation of complex joint interactions. A recent advancement, termed Taylor Videos, introduces motion-enhanced skeleton sequences by embedding motion concepts, providing a fresh perspective on interpreting human actions in skeleton-based action recognition. In this paper, we conduct a comprehensive evaluation of both traditional skeleton sequences and Taylor-transformed skeletons using ST-GCN and Hyperformer models on the NTU-60 and NTU-120 datasets. We compare skeletal graph and hypergraph representations, analyzing static poses against motion-injected poses. Our findings highlight the strengths and limitations of Taylor-transformed skeletons, demonstrating their potential to enhance motion dynamics while exposing current challenges in fully using their benefits. Optimizing Register-Transfer Level (RTL) code is crucial for improving hardware PPA performance. Large Language Models (LLMs) offer new approaches for automatic RTL code generation and optimization. However, existing methods often lack decision interpretability (sufficient, understandable justification for decisions), making it difficult for hardware engineers to trust the generated results, thus preventing these methods from being integrated into the design process. To address this, we propose RTLSquad, a novel LLM-Based Multi-Agent system for interpretable RTL code generation. RTLSquad divides the design process into exploration, implementation, and verification & evaluation stages managed by specialized agent squads, generating optimized RTL code through inter-agent collaboration, and providing decision interpretability through the communication process. Experiments show that RTLSquad excels in generating functionally correct RTL code and optimizing PPA performance, while also having the capability to provide decision paths, demonstrating the practical value of our system.

CeRh2As2 is a newly discovered candidate of multiphase heavy-fermion superconductor (Tc=0.3 K) with intriguing physical properties. Here, we employ soft point-contact spectroscopy to investigate its energy gap behaviors in both the normal and superconducting states. The differential conductance below Tc reveals an estimated superconducting energy gap of 2{\Delta}SC=0.24 meV and thus an extremely strong superconducting pairing strength 2{\Delta}SC/kBTc=8.8, which is comparable to those of cuprates and iron-based high-Tc superconductors as well as infinite-layer nickelates. Above Tc, a well-defined pseudogap feature is manifested as a V-shaped dip in the differential conductance spanning an energy scale of 2{\Delta}g=0.95-3.0 meV. The pseudogap feature persists to the highest characteristic temperature of Tg=8-9 K and is gradually suppressed by magnetic field of Bg=9.0T regardless of its direction relative to the crystallographic axes. The observation of pseudogap features prior to the superconducting phase transition enriches the phase diagram of CeRh2As2 and provides a novel platform to study the interplay of unconventional superconductivity and pseudogap phenomena., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures

According to the theory of group representations, the types of band degeneracy can be divided into accidental degeneracy and essential degeneracy. The essentially degenerate nodal lines (NLs) are typically resided on the high-symmetry lines of the Brillouin zone. Here, we propose a type of NL in two dimension that is essentially degenerate but is hidden within the high-symmetry planes, making it less observable, dubbed a hidden-essential nodal line (HENL). The existence of HENL is guaranteed as long as the system hosts a horizontal glide-mirror symmetry, hence such NLs can be widely found in both non-magnetic and magnetic systems. We perform an exhaustive search over all 528 magnetic layer groups (MLGs) for HENL that can be enforced by glide-mirror symmetry with both spinless and spinfull systems. We find that 122 candidate MLGs host spinless HENL, while 63 candidate MLGs demonstrate spinful HENL. In addition, we reveal that horizontal mirror and time-reversal symmetry in type-II and type-IV MLGs with spin-orbital coupling can enforce HENL formed. The 15 corresponding candidate MLGs have also been presented. Furthemore, we derive a few typical lattice models to characterize the existence for the HENL. For specific electronic fillings in real materials, namely 4$N$+2 in spinless systems (and 2$N$+1 in spinful systems), the presence of the HENLs in candidate MLGs is required regardless of the details of the systems. Using \emph{ab-initio} calculations, we further identify possible material candidates that realize spinless and spinful HENL. Moreover, spinful HENLs exhibit a novel persistent spin texture wih the characteristic of momentum-independent spin configuration. Our findings uncover a new type of topological semimetal state and offer an ideal platform to study the related physics of HENLs.

The China Space Station (CSS) is currently in orbit and carries the high-precision optical atomic clock with stability of approximately $2.0 \times 10^{-15} / \sqrt{\tau}$ in its experiment module. We have developed a model to determine the gravity potential (GP) based on the gravity frequency shift equation and have created both one-way and dual-frequency transfer models up to $c^{-4}$. These models consider effects from the troposphere, ionosphere, and solid Earth tides. The proposed model is suitable for measurements at the magnitude of $10^{-19}$. Based on the CSS mission, we conducted the simulation experiments. The results indicate that when processing the simulation frequency signal using the proposed model, we can obtain the GP with the accuracies of $ (1.13\pm0.71)\,\mathrm{m^2/s^2}$, $ (0.09\pm0.89)\,\mathrm{m^2/s^2}$, and $(0.66\pm1.18)\,\mathrm{m^2/s^2}$ for cutoff elevation angles of $5^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ}$ and $15^{\circ}$, respectively. With the high-precision optical atomic clock onboard the CSS, the proposed model enables us to measure the GP differences in the magnitude of centimeter-level accuracy.

We present a novel constraint on light dark matter utilizing $1.54$ tonne$\cdot$year of data acquired from the PandaX-4T dual-phase xenon time projection chamber. This constraint is derived through detecting electronic recoil signals resulting from the interaction with solar-enhanced dark matter flux. Low-mass dark matter particles, lighter than a few MeV/$c^2$, can scatter with the thermal electrons in the Sun. Consequently, with higher kinetic energy, the boosted dark matter component becomes detectable via contact scattering with xenon electrons, resulting in a few keV energy deposition that exceeds the threshold of PandaX-4T. We calculate the expected recoil energy in PandaX-4T considering the Sun's acceleration and the detection capabilities of the xenon detector. The first experimental search results using the xenon detector yield the most stringent cross-section of $3.51 \times 10^{-39}~\mathrm{cm}^2$ at $0.08~\mathrm{MeV}$/$c^2$ for a solar boosted dark matter mass ranging from $0.02$ to $10~ \mathrm{MeV}$/$c^2$, achieving a 23 fold improvement compared with earlier experimental studies.

Laser-based displays are highly sought after for their superior brightness and color performance, especially in advanced applications like augmented reality (AR). However, their broader adoption has been hindered by bulky projector designs and complex optical module assemblies. Here, we introduce a new laser display architecture enabled by large-scale visible photonic integrated circuits (PICs) to address these challenges. Unlike previous projector-style laser displays, this architecture features an ultra-thin, flat-panel form factor, replacing bulky free-space illumination modules with a single, high-performance photonic chip. Centimeter-scale PIC devices, which integrate thousands of distinct optical components on-chip, are carefully tailored to achieve high display uniformity, contrast, and efficiency. We demonstrate a 2 mm-thick flat-panel laser display combining the PIC with a liquid-crystal-on-silicon (LCoS) panel, achieving 211% of the color gamut and more than 80% volume reduction compared to traditional LCoS displays. We further showcase its application in a see-through AR system. Our work represents a major advancement in the integration of nanophotonics with display technology, enabling a range of new display concepts, from high-performance immersive displays to slim-panel 3D holography.

The interplay among interaction, non-Hermiticity, and disorder opens a new avenue for engineering novel phase transitions. We here study the spectral and localization features of two interacting bosons in one-dimensional nonreciprocal quasicrystals. Specifically, by considering a quasiperiodic Hubbard lattice with nonreciprocal hoppings, we show that the interaction can lead to a mobility edge, which arises from the fact that the bound states display a much lower threshold for spectral and extended-localized transitions than scattering states. The localization transition of bound or scattering states is accompanied by a complex-real spectrum transition. Moreover, while the two-particle localized states are robust to the boundary conditions, the two-particle extended states turn into skin modes under open boundary condition. We also show the correlated dynamics to characterize these localization transitions. Finally, we reveal that the bound states can form mobility edge on their own by introducing a dimerized nonreciprocal quasicrystal. Video anomaly detection (VAD) has witnessed significant advancements through the integration of large language models (LLMs) and vision-language models (VLMs), addressing critical challenges such as interpretability, temporal reasoning, and generalization in dynamic, open-world scenarios. This paper presents an in-depth review of cutting-edge LLM-/VLM-based methods in 2024, focusing on four key aspects: (i) enhancing interpretability through semantic insights and textual explanations, making visual anomalies more understandable; (ii) capturing intricate temporal relationships to detect and localize dynamic anomalies across video frames; (iii) enabling few-shot and zero-shot detection to minimize reliance on large, annotated datasets; and (iv) addressing open-world and class-agnostic anomalies by using semantic understanding and motion features for spatiotemporal coherence. We highlight their potential to redefine the landscape of VAD. We report the search for neutrinoless double-beta decay of $^{136}$Xe from the PandaX-4T experiment with a 3.7-tonne natural xenon target. The data reconstruction and the background modeling are optimized in the MeV energy region. A blind analysis is performed with data from the commissioning run and the first science run. No significant excess of signal over the background is observed. A lower limit on the half-life of $^{136}$Xe neutrinoless double-beta decay is established to be $2.1 \times 10^{24}$~yr at the 90\% confidence level, with a $^{136}$Xe exposure of 44.6~kg$\cdot$year. Accurately identifying gas mixtures and estimating their concentrations are crucial across various industrial applications using gas sensor arrays. However, existing models face challenges in generalizing across heterogeneous datasets, which limits their scalability and practical applicability. To address this problem, this study develops two novel deep-learning models that integrate temporal graph structures for enhanced performance: a Graph-Enhanced Capsule Network (GraphCapsNet) employing dynamic routing for gas mixture classification and a Graph-Enhanced Attention Network (GraphANet) leveraging self-attention for concentration estimation. Both models were validated on datasets from the University of California, Irvine (UCI) Machine Learning Repository and a custom dataset, demonstrating superior performance in gas mixture identification and concentration estimation compared to recent models. In classification tasks, GraphCapsNet achieved over 98.00% accuracy across multiple datasets, while in concentration estimation, GraphANet attained an R2 score exceeding 0.96 across various gas components. Both GraphCapsNet and GraphANet exhibited significantly higher accuracy and stability, positioning them as promising solutions for scalable gas analysis in industrial settings.

Large language models (LLMs) have revolutionized video-based computer vision applications, including action recognition, anomaly detection, and video summarization. Videos inherently pose unique challenges, combining spatial complexity with temporal dynamics that are absent in static images or textual data. Current approaches to video understanding with LLMs often rely on pretrained video encoders to extract spatiotemporal features and text encoders to capture semantic meaning. These representations are integrated within LLM frameworks, enabling multimodal reasoning across diverse video tasks. However, the critical question persists: Can LLMs truly understand the concept of time, and how effectively can they reason about temporal relationships in videos? This work critically examines the role of LLMs in video processing, with a specific focus on their temporal reasoning capabilities. We identify key limitations in the interaction between LLMs and pretrained encoders, revealing gaps in their ability to model long-term dependencies and abstract temporal concepts such as causality and event progression. Furthermore, we analyze challenges posed by existing video datasets, including biases, lack of temporal annotations, and domain-specific limitations that constrain the temporal understanding of LLMs. To address these gaps, we explore promising future directions, including the co-evolution of LLMs and encoders, the development of enriched datasets with explicit temporal labels, and innovative architectures for integrating spatial, temporal, and semantic reasoning. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have played an increasingly important role in military operations and social life. Among all application scenarios, multi-target tracking tasks accomplished by UAV swarms have received extensive attention. However, when UAVs use radar to track targets, the tracking performance can be severely compromised by jammers. To track targets in the presence of jammers, UAVs can use passive radar to position the jammer. This paper proposes a system where a UAV swarm selects the radar's active or passive work mode to track multiple differently located and potentially jammer-carrying targets. After presenting the optimization problem and proving its solving difficulty, we use a multi-agent reinforcement learning algorithm to solve this control problem. We also propose a mechanism based on simulated annealing algorithm to avoid cases where UAV actions violate constraints. Simulation experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Lithium is a typical quantum solid, characterized by cubic structures at ambient pressure. As the pressure increases, it forms more complex structures and undergoes a metal-to-semiconductor transformation, complicating theoretical and experimental analyses. We employ the neural canonical transformation approach, an \textit{ab initio} variational method based on probabilistic generative models, to investigate the quantum anharmonic effects in lithium solids at finite temperatures. This approach combines a normalizing flow for phonon excited-state wave functions with a probabilistic model for the occupation of energy levels, optimized jointly to minimize the free energy. Our results indicate that quantum anharmonicity lowers the \textit{bcc}-\textit{fcc} transition temperature compared to classical molecular dynamics predictions. At high pressures, the predicted fractional coordinates of lithium atoms in the \textit{cI16} structure show good quantitative agreement with experimental observations. Finally, contrary to previous beliefs, we find that the poor metallic \textit{oC88} structure is stabilized by the potential energy surface obtained via high-accuracy electronic structure calculations, rather than thermal or quantum nuclear effects., Comment: 6+6 pages, 3+3 figures

Deep learning-based generative models have emerged as powerful tools for modeling complex data distributions and generating high-fidelity samples, offering a transformative approach to efficiently explore the configuration space of crystalline materials. In this work, we present CrystalFlow, a flow-based generative model specifically developed for the generation of crystalline materials. CrystalFlow constructs Continuous Normalizing Flows to model lattice parameters, atomic coordinates, and/or atom types, which are trained using Conditional Flow Matching techniques. Through an appropriate choice of data representation and the integration of a graph-based equivariant neural network, the model effectively captures the fundamental symmetries of crystalline materials, which ensures data-efficient learning and enables high-quality sampling. Our experiments demonstrate that CrystalFlow achieves state-of-the-art performance across standard generation benchmarks, and exhibits versatile conditional generation capabilities including producing structures optimized for specific external pressures or desired material properties. Thin-film lithium niobate on insulator~(LNOI) emerges as a promising platform for integrated quantum photon source, enabling scalable on-chip quantum information processing. The most popular technique to overcome the phase mismatching between interacting waves in waveguide is periodic poling, which is intrinsically sensitive to poling uniformity. Here, we report an alternative strategy to offset the phase mismatching of spontaneous parametric down-conversion~(SPDC) process, so-called modal phase matching, in a straight waveguide fabricated on a dual-layer LNOI. The dual-layer LNOI consists of two 300~nm lithium niobates with opposite directions, which significantly enhances the spatial overlap between fundamental and high-order modes and thus enables efficient SPDC. This dual-layer waveguide generates photon pairs with pair generation rate of 41.77~GHz/mW, which exhibits excellent signal-to-noise performance with coincidence-to-accidental ratio up to 58298$\pm$1297. Moreover, we observe a heralded single-photon source with second-order autocorrelation $g_{H}^{(2)}(0)<0.2$ and heralded rate exceeding 100~kHz. Trending topics have become a significant part of modern social media, attracting users to participate in discussions of breaking events. However, they also bring in a new channel for poisoning attacks, resulting in negative impacts on society. Therefore, it is urgent to study this critical problem and develop effective strategies for defense. In this paper, we propose TrendSim, an LLM-based multi-agent system to simulate trending topics in social media under poisoning attacks. Specifically, we create a simulation environment for trending topics that incorporates a time-aware interaction mechanism, centralized message dissemination, and an interactive system. Moreover, we develop LLM-based human-like agents to simulate users in social media, and propose prototype-based attackers to replicate poisoning attacks. Besides, we evaluate TrendSim from multiple aspects to validate its effectiveness. Recent advancements in Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have generated significant interest in their ability to autonomously interact with and interpret Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs). A major challenge in these systems is grounding-accurately identifying critical GUI components such as text or icons based on a GUI image and a corresponding text query. Traditionally, this task has relied on fine-tuning MLLMs with specialized training data to predict component locations directly. However, in this paper, we propose a novel Tuning-free Attention-driven Grounding (TAG) method that leverages the inherent attention patterns in pretrained MLLMs to accomplish this task without the need for additional fine-tuning. Our method involves identifying and aggregating attention maps from specific tokens within a carefully constructed query prompt. Applied to MiniCPM-Llama3-V 2.5, a state-of-the-art MLLM, our tuning-free approach achieves performance comparable to tuning-based methods, with notable success in text localization. Additionally, we demonstrate that our attention map-based grounding technique significantly outperforms direct localization predictions from MiniCPM-Llama3-V 2.5, highlighting the potential of using attention maps from pretrained MLLMs and paving the way for future innovations in this domain., Comment: Accepted to AAAI 2025

The transverse current (j_H) due to anomalous Hall effect (AHE) is usually assumed to be perpendicular to the magnetization (m) in ferromagnetic materials, which governs the experiments in spintronics. Generally, this assumption is derived from a continuum model, where the crystal's discrete symmetry is effectively represented by the concept of an effective mass from the band structure. In this paper, we calculate the spin transport through the nonmagnetic metal (NM) | ferromagnetic metal (FM) interfaces and find that the corresponding Hall current is generally not perpendicular to m with only a few exceptions at high symmetry crystal orientations. The calculation illustrates the breakdown of j_H={\theta}m{\times}j_c, where {\theta} denotes the anomalous Hall angle and j_c represents the injecting charge current. An analytical formula based on the discrete symmetry of the solid can describe this effect well. In this framework, the leading order corresponds to the conventional AHE, while higher-order terms account for deviations in the Hall current. Additionally, we identify the presence of a chiral anomalous Hall effect (CAHE) at interface with odd rotational symmetry (e.g., C_{3v}) and the higher-order terms can even dominate the AHE by constructing superlattices. The general existence of hidden chirality in spin transport is also revealed, with a specific focus on interface chirality (IC). Our results highlight the significance of discrete atomic positions in solids for spin transport, which extends beyond the conventional continuum model. Moreover, considering the important application of the AHE in spintronics and the wide existence of the interfaces in the devices, the breakdown of j_H={\theta}m{\times}j_c suggests that all experimental measurements related to the AHE should be re-evaluated.

Role-playing is a crucial capability of Large Language Models (LLMs), enabling a wide range of practical applications, including intelligent non-player characters, digital twins, and emotional companions. Evaluating this capability in LLMs is challenging due to the complex dynamics involved in role-playing, such as maintaining character fidelity throughout a storyline and navigating open-ended narratives without a definitive ground truth. Current evaluation methods, which primarily focus on question-answering or conversational snapshots, fall short of adequately capturing the nuanced character traits and behaviors essential for authentic role-playing. In this paper, we propose CharacterBox, which is a simulation sandbox designed to generate situational fine-grained character behavior trajectories. These behavior trajectories enable a more comprehensive and in-depth evaluation of role-playing capabilities. CharacterBox consists of two main components: the character agent and the narrator agent. The character agent, grounded in psychological and behavioral science, exhibits human-like behaviors, while the narrator agent coordinates interactions between character agents and environmental changes. Additionally, we introduce two trajectory-based methods that leverage CharacterBox to enhance LLM performance. To reduce costs and facilitate the adoption of CharacterBox by public communities, we fine-tune two smaller models, CharacterNR and CharacterRM, as substitutes for GPT API calls, and demonstrate their competitive performance compared to advanced GPT APIs.

Analog computing using non-volatile memristors has emerged as a promising solution for energy-efficient deep learning. New materials, like perovskites-based memristors are recently attractive due to their cost-effectiveness, energy efficiency and flexibility. Yet, challenges in material diversity and immature fabrications require extensive experimentation for device development. Moreover, significant non-idealities in these memristors often impede them for computing. Here, we propose a synergistic methodology to concurrently optimize perovskite memristor fabrication and develop robust analog DNNs that effectively address the inherent non-idealities of these memristors. Employing Bayesian optimization (BO) with a focus on usability, we efficiently identify optimal materials and fabrication conditions for perovskite memristors. Meanwhile, we developed "BayesMulti", a DNN training strategy utilizing BO-guided noise injection to improve the resistance of analog DNNs to memristor imperfections. Our approach theoretically ensures that within a certain range of parameter perturbations due to memristor non-idealities, the prediction outcomes remain consistent. Our integrated approach enables use of analog computing in much deeper and wider networks, which significantly outperforms existing methods in diverse tasks like image classification, autonomous driving, species identification, and large vision-language models, achieving up to 100-fold improvements. We further validate our methodology on a 10$\times$10 optimized perovskite memristor crossbar, demonstrating high accuracy in a classification task and low energy consumption. This study offers a versatile solution for efficient optimization of various analog computing systems, encompassing both devices and algorithms.

Learning from feedback has been shown to enhance the alignment between text prompts and images in text-to-image diffusion models. However, due to the lack of focus in feedback content, especially regarding the object type and quantity, these techniques struggle to accurately match text and images when faced with specified prompts. To address this issue, we propose an efficient fine-turning method with specific reward objectives, including three stages. First, generated images from diffusion model are detected to obtain the object categories and quantities. Meanwhile, the confidence of category and quantity can be derived from the detection results and given prompts. Next, we define a novel matching score, based on above confidence, to measure text-image alignment. It can guide the model for feedback learning in the form of a reward function. Finally, we fine-tune the diffusion model by backpropagation the reward function gradients to generate semantically related images. Different from previous feedbacks that focus more on overall matching, we place more emphasis on the accuracy of entity categories and quantities. Besides, we construct a text-to-image dataset for studying the compositional generation, including 1.7 K pairs of text-image with diverse combinations of entities and quantities. Experimental results on this benchmark show that our model outperforms other SOTA methods in both alignment and fidelity. Automated radiology report generation (R2Gen) has advanced significantly, introducing challenges in accurate evaluation due to its complexity. Traditional metrics often fall short by relying on rigid word-matching or focusing only on pathological entities, leading to inconsistencies with human assessments. To bridge this gap, we introduce ER2Score, an automatic evaluation metric designed specifically for R2Gen. Our metric utilizes a reward model, guided by our margin-based reward enforcement loss, along with a tailored training data design that enables customization of evaluation criteria to suit user-defined needs. It not only scores reports according to user-specified criteria but also provides detailed sub-scores, enhancing interpretability and allowing users to adjust the criteria between different aspects of reports. Leveraging GPT-4, we designed an easy-to-use data generation pipeline, enabling us to produce extensive training data based on two distinct scoring systems, each containing reports of varying quality along with corresponding scores. These GPT-generated reports are then paired as accepted and rejected samples through our pairing rule to train an LLM towards our fine-grained reward model, which assigns higher rewards to the report with high quality. Our reward-control loss enables this model to simultaneously output multiple individual rewards corresponding to the number of evaluation criteria, with their summation as our final ER2Score. Our experiments demonstrate ER2Score's heightened correlation with human judgments and superior performance in model selection compared to traditional metrics. Notably, our model provides both an overall score and individual scores for each evaluation item, enhancing interpretability. We also demonstrate its flexible training across various evaluation systems.

This paper introduces a novel approach, the Bounded-Cache Transformer (BCT), for building large language models with a predefined Key-Value (KV) cache capacity. The BCT addresses the excessive memory consumption issue in traditional KV caches by implementing a bounded-length KV cache, which is particularly suitable for the attention layers in Transformer decode-only architectures. By dynamically updating the key-value vector sequences, the BCT achieves efficient inference within limited cache capacity, significantly reducing memory usage while maintaining model performance and system throughput. Experimental results demonstrate that the BCT significantly reduces memory usage while maintaining the model's inference quality, offering a new solution for efficient inference in large language models.

Video action recognition has made significant strides, but challenges remain in effectively using both spatial and temporal information. While existing methods often focus on either spatial features (e.g., object appearance) or temporal dynamics (e.g., motion), they rarely address the need for a comprehensive integration of both. Capturing the rich temporal evolution of video frames, while preserving their spatial details, is crucial for improving accuracy. In this paper, we introduce the Temporal Integration and Motion Enhancement (TIME) layer, a novel preprocessing technique designed to incorporate temporal information. The TIME layer generates new video frames by rearranging the original sequence, preserving temporal order while embedding $N^2$ temporally evolving frames into a single spatial grid of size $N \times N$. This transformation creates new frames that balance both spatial and temporal information, making them compatible with existing video models. When $N=1$, the layer captures rich spatial details, similar to existing methods. As $N$ increases ($N\geq2$), temporal information becomes more prominent, while the spatial information decreases to ensure compatibility with model inputs. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the TIME layer by integrating it into popular action recognition models, such as ResNet-50, Vision Transformer, and Video Masked Autoencoders, for both RGB and depth video data. Foundation models (FMs) achieve strong performance across diverse tasks with task-specific fine-tuning, yet full parameter fine-tuning is often computationally prohibitive for large models. Parameter-efficient fine-tuning (PEFT) methods like Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) reduce this cost by introducing low-rank matrices for tuning fewer parameters. While LoRA allows for efficient fine-tuning, it requires significant data for adaptation, making Federated Learning (FL) an appealing solution due to its privacy-preserving collaborative framework. However, combining LoRA with FL introduces two key challenges: the \textbf{Server-Side LoRA Aggregation Bias}, where server-side averaging of LoRA matrices diverges from the ideal global update, and the \textbf{Client-Side LoRA Initialization Drift}, emphasizing the need for consistent initialization across rounds. Existing approaches address these challenges individually, limiting their effectiveness. We propose LoRA-FAIR, a novel method that tackles both issues by introducing a correction term on the server while keeping the original LoRA modules, enhancing aggregation efficiency and accuracy. LoRA-FAIR maintains computational and communication efficiency, yielding superior performance over state-of-the-art methods. Experimental results on ViT and MLP-Mixer models across large-scale datasets demonstrate that LoRA-FAIR consistently achieves performance improvements in FL settings.

We present the application of the image coaddition algorithm, Up-sampling and PSF Deconvolution Coaddition (UPDC), for stacking multiple exposure images captured by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam). By addressing the point spread function (PSF) effect, UPDC provides visually enhanced and sharper images. Furthermore, the anti-aliasing and super-resolution capabilities of UPDC make it easier to deblend sources overlapped on images, yielding a higher accuracy of aperture photometry. We apply this algorithm to the SMACS J0723 imaging data. Comparative analysis with the Drizzle algorithm demonstrates significant improvements in detecting faint sources, achieving accurate photometry, and effectively deblending (super-resolution) closely packed sources. {As a result, we have newly detected a pair of close binary stars that were previously unresolvable in the original exposures or the Drizzled image.} These improvements significantly benefit various scientific projects conducted by JWST. Detailed studies of two-neutrino double electron capture (2$\nu$DEC) is a crucial step towards searching for the neutrino-less mode to explore the Majorana nature of neutrinos. We have measured precisely the half-life of the 2$\nu$DEC process in $^{124}$Xe, utilizing a total exposure of 1.73 tonne$\cdot$year from the commissioning run and the first science run of the PandaX-4T experiment. A time-dependent background model in the $\mathcal{O}$(10 keV) energy is constructed for the first time in PandaX-4T data. With an unbinned maximum likelihood fit, we determine the half-life of the 2$\nu$DEC process to be $(1.03\pm0.15_{\rm stat}\pm0.06_{\rm sys})\times 10^{22}$$\,$yr. Furthermore, we have evaluated the branching ratio for both electrons captured from the $K$ shell ($KK$) to be $(65\pm5)\%$, which aligns with the $^{124}$Xe nuclear model calculations within 1.5$\,$$\sigma$., Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures, 3 tables

The SPEC CPU2017 benchmark suite is an industry standard for accessing CPU performance. It adheres strictly to some workload and system configurations - arbitrary specificity - while leaving other system configurations undefined - arbitrary ambiguity. This article reveals: (1) Arbitrary specificity proves not meaningful, obscuring many scenarios, as evidenced by significant performance variations, a 74.49x performance difference observed on the same CPU. (2) Arbitrary ambiguity is unfair as it fails to establish the same configurations for comparing different CPUs. We propose an innovative CPU evaluation methodology. It considers all workload and system configurations valid and mandates each configuration to be well-defined to avoid arbitrary specificity and ambiguity. To reduce the evaluation cost, a sampling approach is proposed to select a subset of the configurations. To expose CPU performance under different scenarios, it treats all outcomes under each configuration as equally important. Finally, it utilizes confidence level and confidence interval to report the outcomes to avoid bias.

Extraction of a high-fidelity 3D medial axis is a crucial operation in CAD. When dealing with a polygonal model as input, ensuring accuracy and tidiness becomes challenging due to discretization errors inherent in the mesh surface. Commonly, existing approaches yield medial-axis surfaces with various artifacts, including zigzag boundaries, bumpy surfaces, unwanted spikes, and non-smooth stitching curves. Considering that the surface of a CAD model can be easily decomposed into a collection of surface patches, its 3D medial axis can be extracted by computing the Voronoi diagram of these surface patches, where each surface patch serves as a generator. However, no solver currently exists for accurately computing such an extended Voronoi diagram. Under the assumption that each generator defines a linear distance field over a sufficiently small range, our approach operates by tetrahedralizing the region of interest and computing the medial axis within each tetrahedral element. Just as SurfaceVoronoi computes surface-based Voronoi diagrams by cutting a 3D prism with 3D planes (each plane encodes a linear field in a triangle), the key operation in this paper is to conduct the hyperplane cutting process in 4D, where each hyperplane encodes a linear field in a tetrahedron. In comparison with the state-of-the-art, our algorithm produces better outcomes. Furthermore, it can also be used to compute the offset surface.

Thermal broadening of the quasi-particle peak in the spectral function is an important physical feature in many statistical systems, but difficult to calculate. Within the projective truncation approximation (PTA) of Green's function equation of motion for classical systems, we produce the spectral function with thermal broadened quasi-particles peak using an $H$-expanded basis. We demonstrate this method on two model systems, the one-variable anharmonic oscillator model and the one-dimensional classical $\phi^4$ lattice model. Comparison with exact spectral function and the molecular dynamics simulation results shows that the method is semi-quantitatively accurate. In the context of the exponentially increasing volume of narrative texts such as novels and news, readers struggle to extract and consistently remember storyline from these intricate texts due to the constraints of human working memory and attention span. To tackle this issue, we propose a visualization approach StoryExplorer, which facilitates the process of knowledge externalization of narrative texts and further makes the form of mental models more coherent. Through the formative study and close collaboration with 2 domain experts, we identified key challenges for the extraction of the storyline. Guided by the distilled requirements, we then propose a set of workflow (i.e., insight finding-scripting-storytelling) to enable users to interactively generate fragments of narrative structures. We then propose a visualization system StoryExplorer which combines stroke annotation and GPT-based visual hints to quickly extract story fragments and interactively construct storyline. To evaluate the effectiveness and usefulness of StoryExplorer, we conducted 2 case studies and in-depth user interviews with 16 target users. The result shows that users can better extract the storyline by using StoryExplorer along with the proposed workflow.

Photoacoustic imaging (PAI) represents an innovative biomedical imaging modality that harnesses the advantages of optical resolution and acoustic penetration depth while ensuring enhanced safety. Despite its promising potential across a diverse array of preclinical and clinical applications, the clinical implementation of PAI faces significant challenges, including the trade-off between penetration depth and spatial resolution, as well as the demand for faster imaging speeds. This paper explores the fundamental principles underlying PAI, with a particular emphasis on three primary implementations: photoacoustic computed tomography (PACT), photoacoustic microscopy (PAM), and photoacoustic endoscopy (PAE). We undertake a critical assessment of their respective strengths and practical limitations. Furthermore, recent developments in utilizing conventional or deep learning (DL) methodologies for image reconstruction and artefact mitigation across PACT, PAM, and PAE are outlined, demonstrating considerable potential to enhance image quality and accelerate imaging processes. Furthermore, this paper examines the recent developments in quantitative analysis within PAI, including the quantification of haemoglobin concentration, oxygen saturation, and other physiological parameters within tissues. In computer graphics, simplifying a polygonal mesh surface~$\mathcal{M}$ into a geometric proxy that maintains close conformity to~$\mathcal{M}$ is crucial, as it can significantly reduce computational demands in various applications. In this paper, we introduce the Implicit Thin Shell~(ITS), a concept designed to implicitly represent the sandwich-walled space surrounding~$\mathcal{M}$, defined as~$\{\textbf{x}\in\mathbb{R}^3|\epsilon_1\leq f(\textbf{x}) \leq \epsilon_2, \epsilon_1< 0, \epsilon_2>0\}$. Here, $f$ is an approximation of the signed distance function~(SDF) of~$\mathcal{M}$, and we aim to minimize the thickness~$\epsilon_2-\epsilon_1$. To achieve a balance between mathematical simplicity and expressive capability in~$f$, we employ a tri-variate tensor-product B-spline to represent~$f$. This representation is coupled with adaptive knot grids that adapt to the inherent shape variations of~$\mathcal{M}$, while restricting~$f$'s basis functions to the first degree. In this manner, the analytical form of~$f$ can be rapidly determined by solving a sparse linear system. Moreover, the process of identifying the extreme values of~$f$ among the infinitely many points on~$\mathcal{M}$ can be simplified to seeking extremes among a finite set of candidate points. By exhausting the candidate points, we find the extreme values~$\epsilon_1<0$ and $\epsilon_2>0$ that minimize the thickness. The constructed ITS is guaranteed to wrap~$\mathcal{M}$ rigorously, without any intersections between the bounding surfaces and~$\mathcal{M}$. ITS offers numerous potential applications thanks to its rigorousness, tightness, expressiveness, and computational efficiency. We demonstrate the efficacy of ITS in rapid inside-outside tests and in mesh simplification through the control of global error.

Quantum Data Networks (QDNs) have emerged as a promising framework in the field of information processing and transmission, harnessing the principles of quantum mechanics. QDNs utilize a quantum teleportation technique through long-distance entanglement connections, encoding data information in quantum bits (qubits). Despite being a cornerstone in various quantum applications, quantum entanglement encounters challenges in establishing connections over extended distances due to probabilistic processes influenced by factors like optical fiber losses. The creation of long-distance entanglement connections between quantum computers involves multiple entanglement links and entanglement swapping techniques through successive quantum nodes, including quantum computers and quantum repeaters, necessitating optimal path selection and qubit allocation. Current research predominantly assumes known success rates of entanglement links between neighboring quantum nodes and overlooks potential network attackers. This paper addresses the online challenge of optimal path selection and qubit allocation, aiming to learn the best strategy for achieving the highest success rate of entanglement connections between two chosen quantum computers without prior knowledge of the success rate and in the presence of a QDN attacker. The proposed approach is based on multi-armed bandits, specifically adversarial group neural bandits, which treat each path as a group and view qubit allocation as arm selection. We report the discovery of a peculiar X-ray transient, EP240408a, by Einstein Probe (EP) and follow-up studies made with EP, Swift, NICER, GROND, ATCA and other ground-based multi-wavelength telescopes. The new transient was first detected with Wide-field X-ray Telescope (WXT) on board EP on April 8th, 2024, manifested in an intense yet brief X-ray flare lasting for 12 seconds. The flare reached a peak flux of 3.9x10^(-9) erg/cm2/s in 0.5-4 keV, about 300 times brighter than the underlying X-ray emission detected throughout the observation. Rapid and more precise follow-up observations by EP/FXT, Swift and NICER confirmed the finding of this new transient. Its X-ray spectrum is non-thermal in 0.5-10 keV, with a power-law photon index varying within 1.8-2.5. The X-ray light curve shows a plateau lasting for about 4 days, followed by a steep decay till becoming undetectable about 10 days after the initial detection. Based on its temporal property and constraints from previous EP observations, an unusual timescale in the range of 7-23 days is found for EP240408a, which is intermediate between the commonly found fast and long-term transients. No counterparts have been found in optical and near-infrared, with the earliest observation at 17 hours after the initial X-ray detection, suggestive of intrinsically weak emission in these bands. We demonstrate that the remarkable properties of EP240408a are inconsistent with any of the transient types known so far, by comparison with, in particular, jetted tidal disruption events, gamma-ray bursts, X-ray binaries and fast blue optical transients. The nature of EP240408a thus remains an enigma. We suggest that EP240408a may represent a new type of transients with intermediate timescales of the order of about 10 days. Computational protein design (CPD) refers to the use of computational methods to design proteins. Traditional methods relying on energy functions and heuristic algorithms for sequence design are inefficient and do not meet the demands of the big data era in biomolecules, with their accuracy limited by the energy functions and search algorithms. Existing deep learning methods are constrained by the learning capabilities of the networks, failing to extract effective information from sparse protein structures, which limits the accuracy of protein design. To address these shortcomings, we developed an Efficient attention-based Models for Computational Protein Design using amino acid microenvironment (EMOCPD). It aims to predict the category of each amino acid in a protein by analyzing the three-dimensional atomic environment surrounding the amino acids, and optimize the protein based on the predicted high-probability potential amino acid categories. EMOCPD employs a multi-head attention mechanism to focus on important features in the sparse protein microenvironment and utilizes an inverse residual structure to optimize the network architecture. The proposed EMOCPD achieves over 80% accuracy on the training set and 68.33% and 62.32% accuracy on two independent test sets, respectively, surpassing the best comparative methods by over 10%. In protein design, the thermal stability and protein expression of the predicted mutants from EMOCPD show significant improvements compared to the wild type, effectively validating EMOCPD's potential in designing superior proteins. Furthermore, the predictions of EMOCPD are influenced positively, negatively, or have minimal impact based on the content of the 20 amino acids, categorizing amino acids as positive, negative, or neutral. Research findings indicate that EMOCPD is more suitable for designing proteins with lower contents of negative amino acids.

Multiple kernel learning (MKL) aims to find an optimal, consistent kernel function. In the hierarchical multiple kernel clustering (HMKC) algorithm, sample features are extracted layer by layer from a high-dimensional space to maximize the retention of effective information. However, information interaction between layers is often ignored. In this model, only corresponding nodes in adjacent layers exchange information; other nodes remain isolated, and if full connectivity is adopted, the diversity of the final consistency matrix is reduced. Therefore, this paper proposes a hierarchical multiple kernel K-Means (SCHMKKM) algorithm based on sparse connectivity, which controls the assignment matrix to achieve sparse connections through a sparsity rate, thereby locally fusing the features obtained by distilling information between layers. Finally, we conduct cluster analysis on multiple datasets and compare it with the fully connected hierarchical multiple kernel K-Means (FCHMKKM) algorithm in experiments. It is shown that more discriminative information fusion is beneficial for learning a better consistent partition matrix, and the fusion strategy based on sparse connection outperforms the full connection strategy., Comment: in Chinese language

Magnetoresistance (MR) oscillations serve as a hallmark of intrinsic quantum behavior, traditionally observed only in conducting systems. Here we report the discovery of MR oscillations in an insulating system, the vertical junctions of CrPS$_4$ which is a two dimensional (2D) A-type antiferromagnetic semiconductor. Systematic investigations of MR peaks under varying conditions, including electrode materials, magnetic field direction, temperature, voltage bias and layer number, elucidate a correlation between MR oscillations and spin-canted states in CrPS$_4$. Experimental data and analysis point out the important role of the in-gap electronic states in generating MR oscillations, and we proposed that spin selected interlayer hopping of localized defect states may be responsible for it. Multiple electroweak phase transitions occurring sequentially in the early universe can give rise to intriguing phenomenology, compared to the typical single-step electroweak phase transition. In this work, we investigate this scenario within the framework of the two-Higgs-doublet model with a pseudoscalar, utilizing the complete one-loop finite-temperature effective potential. After considering relevant experimental and theoretical constraints, we identify four distinct types of phase transitions. In the first case, only the configuration of the CP-even Higgs acquires a non-zero value via a first-order or a cross-over electroweak phase transition, leading to electroweak symmetry breaking. In the remaining three cases, the pseudoscalar fields can obtain vacuum expectation values at different phases of the multi-step phase transition process, leading to spontaneous breaking of the CP symmetry. As the temperature decreases, the phase shifts to the vacuum observed today via first-order electroweak phase transition, at this point, the vacuum expectation value of the pseudoscalar field returns to zero, restoring the CP symmetry. A symmetric nonnegative matrix factorization algorithm based on self-paced learning was proposed to improve the clustering performance of the model. It could make the model better distinguish normal samples from abnormal samples in an error-driven way. Text documents with numerical values involved are widely used in various applications such as scientific research, economy, public health and journalism. However, it is difficult for readers to quickly interpret such data-involved texts and gain deep insights. To fill this research gap, this work aims to automatically generate charts to accurately convey the underlying data and ideas to readers, which is essentially a challenging task. The challenges originate from text ambiguities, intrinsic sparsity and uncertainty of data in text documents, and subjective sentiment differences. Specifically, we propose ChartifyText, a novel fully-automated approach that leverages Large Language Models (LLMs) to convert complex data-involved texts to expressive charts. It consists of two major modules: tabular data inference and expressive chart generation. The tabular data inference module employs systematic prompt engineering to guide the LLM (e.g., GPT-4) to infer table data, where data ranges, uncertainties, missing data values and corresponding subjective sentiments are explicitly considered. The expressive chart generation module augments standard charts with intuitive visual encodings and concise texts to accurately convey the underlying data and insights. We extensively evaluate the effectiveness of ChartifyText on real-world data-involved text documents through case studies, in-depth interviews with three visualization experts, and a carefully-designed user study with 15 participants. The results demonstrate the usefulness and effectiveness of ChartifyText in helping readers efficiently and effectively make sense of data-involved texts.

Compared to the micro continuum robots that use traditional manufacturing technology, the micro fabricated continuum robots are different in terms of the application of smart materials, additive manufacturing process, and physical field control. However, the existing geometrical prediction models of the micro continuum robots still follow the model frameworks designed for their larger counterparts, which is inconsistent with the real geometrical transformation principle of micro fabricated continuum robots. In this paper, we present a universal geometrical prediction method for the geometry transformation of the micro fabricated continuum robots based on their material properties and the displacement of the stress points. By discretizing of the micro fabricated continuum structure and applying force constraints between adjacent points to simulate material properties, formulations and simulations are demonstrated to prove the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method. Three micro fabricated continuum robots driven through different external field forces are investigated to show two superiorities: the geometrical deformation of a micro fabricated continuum robot under external disturbances can be predicted, and a targeted geometry can be shaped by predicting the sequence and directions of external forces. This pioneer research has contributed to promote understanding and operation of micro fabricated continuum robots and their deformation both from theoretical aspect and real experimental operations.

This paper proposes a novel approach that employs error amplification and ADC-based dual-mixer time-difference (ADC-based-DMTD) technique for high-precision locking of laser repetition frequency with compact size. This electronic system consists of two main components: a digitized error amplification module (EAM) and an FPGA-based digital frequency locking module (DFLM). The EAM mainly integrates a configurable frequency generator (CFG), a configurable frequency multiplier (CFM) and a mixer to process the laser pulses and a high-stability reference source (e.g., an atomic clock), enabling high-precision locking of pulse lasers operating at different repetition frequencies. By employing frequency multiplication and mixing, the EAM amplifies the laser's frequency error and performs frequency down-conversion, enhancing measurement sensitivity and reducing the hardware requirements of the back-end. The DFLM receives the EAM outputs by using an ADC-based-DMTD method to precisely measure frequency errors, then the digital proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller provides feedback to achieve accurate frequency locking. Initial testing with a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) demonstrated excellent locking performance, achieving an Allan deviation of $9.58 \times 10^{-14}$ at 10 seconds and a standard deviation (STD) of 7.7 \textmu Hz root mean square (RMS) after locking, marking a five-order-of-magnitude stability enhancement. In laboratory experiments with a custom-built femtosecond fiber laser, the system achieved robust locking of the repetition frequency, with a stability improvement from $1.51 \times 10^{-7}$ to $1.12 \times 10^{-12}$ at a 10-second gate time and an STD of 0.43 mHz RMS after locking., Comment: Submitted to IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON INSTRUMENTATION AND MEASUREMENT
