Developing monolingual large Pre-trained Language Models (PLMs) is shown to be very successful in handling different tasks in Natural Language Processing (NLP). In this work, we present AraMUS, the largest Arabic PLM with 11B parameters trained on 529GB of high-quality Arabic textual data. AraMUS achieves state-of-the-art performances on a diverse set of Arabic classification and generative tasks. Moreover, AraMUS shows impressive few-shot learning abilities compared with the best existing Arabic PLMs.

Holography has always held special appeal, for it is able to record and display spatial information in three dimensions. Here, we show how to augment the capabilities of digital holography by using a large number of narrow laser lines at precisely-defined optical frequencies simultaneously. Using an interferometer based on two frequency combs of slightly different repetition frequencies and a lens-less camera sensor, we record time-varying spatial interference patterns that generate spectral hypercubes of complex holograms, revealing, for each comb line frequency, amplitudes and phases of scattered wave-fields. Unlike with previous multi-color holography and low-coherence holography (including with a frequency comb), the unique synergy of broad spectral bandwidth and high temporal coherence in dual-comb holography opens up novel optical diagnostics, such as precise dimensional metrology over large distances without interferometric phase ambiguity, or hyperspectral 3-dimensional imaging with high spectral resolving power, as we illustrate by molecule-selective imaging of an absorbing gas., Comment: 11 pages

The recent isolation of two-dimensional van der Waals magnetic materials has uncovered rich physics that often differs from the magnetic behaviour of their bulk counterparts. However, the microscopic details of fundamental processes such as the initial magnetization or domain reversal, which govern the magnetic hysteresis, remain largely unknown in the ultrathin limit. Here we employ a widefield nitrogen-vacancy (NV) microscope to directly image these processes in few-layer flakes of magnetic semiconductor vanadium triiodide (VI$_3$). We observe complete and abrupt switching of most flakes at fields $H_c\approx0.5-1$ T (at 5 K) independent of thickness down to two atomic layers, with no intermediate partially-reversed state. The coercive field decreases as the temperature approaches the Curie temperature ($T_c\approx50$ K), however, the switching remains abrupt. We then image the initial magnetization process, which reveals thickness-dependent domain wall depinning fields well below $H_c$. These results point to ultrathin VI$_3$ being a nucleation-type hard ferromagnet, where the coercive field is set by the anisotropy-limited domain wall nucleation field. This work illustrates the power of widefield NV microscopy to investigate magnetization processes in van der Waals ferromagnets, which could be used to elucidate the origin of the hard ferromagnetic properties of other materials and explore field- and current-driven domain wall dynamics., Comment: includes SI

New boron-rich sulfide B6S and selenide B6Se have been discovered from high pressure - high temperature synthesis combined with ab initio evolutionary crystal structure prediction, and studied by synchrotron X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy at ambient conditions. As it follows from Rietveld refinement of powder X-ray diffraction data, both chalcogenides have orthorhombic symmetry and belongs to Pmna space group. All experimentally observed Raman bands have been attributed to the theoretically calculated phonon modes, and the mode assignment has been performed. Prediction of mechanical properties (hardness and elastic moduli) of new boron-rich chalcogenides have been made using ab initio routines, and both compounds were found to be members of a family of hard phases (Hv ~ 31 GPa).

Tin-chalcogenides SnX (X = Te, Se and S) have been arousing research interest due to their thermoelectric physical properties. The two-dimensional (2D) counterparts, which are expected to enhance the property, nevertheless, have not been fully explored because of many possible structures. Generating variable composition of 2D Sn$_{1-x}$X$_{x}$ systems (X = Te, Se and S) has been performed using global searching method based on evolutionary algorithm combining with density functional calculations. A new hexagonal phase named by $\beta'$-SnX is found by Universal Structure Predictor Evolutionary Xtallography (USPEX), and the structural stability has been further checked by phonon dispersion calculation and the elasticity criteria. The $\beta'$-SnTe is the most stable among all possible 2D phases of SnTe including those experimentally available phases. Further, $\beta'$ phases of SnSe and SnS are also found energetically close to the most stable phases. High thermoelectronic (TE) performance has been achieved in the $\beta'$-SnX phases, which have dimensionless figure of merit (ZT) as high as $\sim$0.96 to 3.81 for SnTe, $\sim$0.93 to 2.51 for SnSe and $\sim$1.19 to 3.18 for SnS at temperature ranging from 300 K to 900 K with practically attainable carrier concentration of 5$\times$10$^{12}$ cm$^{-2}$. The high TE performance is resulted from a high power factor which is attributed to the quantum confinement of 2D materials and the band convergence near Fermi level, as well as low thermal conductivity mainly from both low elastic constants due to weak inter-Sn bonding strength and strong lattice anharmonicity., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures

A high-throughput screening based on first-principles calculations was performed to search for new ternary inorganic electrides. From the available materials database, we identified three new thermodynamically stable materials (Li$_{12}$Mg$_3$Si$_4$, NaBa$_2$O and Ca$_5$Ga$_2$N$_4$) as potential electrides made by main group elements, in addition to the well known mayenite based electride (C12A7:$e^-$). Different from those conventional inorganic electrides in which the excess electrons play only the role of anions, the three new materials, resembling the electrides found in simple metals under high pressure, possess mixed ionic and metallic bonding. The interplay between two competing mechanisms, together with the different crystal packing motifs, gives rise to a variety of geometries in anionic electrons, and rich physical phenomena such as ferromagnetism, superconductivity and metal-insulator transition. We simulate boron on Pb(110) surface by using ab initio evolutionary methodology. Interestingly, the two-dimensional (2D) Dirac Pmmn boron can be formed because of good lattice matching. Unexpectedly, by increasing the thickness of 2D boron, a three-bonded graphene-like structure (P2_1/c boron) was revealed to possess double anisotropic Dirac cones. It is 20 meV/atom lower in energy than the Pmmn structure, indicating the most stable 2D boron with particular Dirac cones. The puckered structure of P2_1/c boron results in the peculiar Dirac cones, as well as substantial mechanical anisotropy. The calculated Young's modulus is 320 GPa.nm along zigzag direction, which is comparable with graphene., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures
