Terahertz backward wave oscillators based on double corrugated waveguides are enabling devices for modern satellite communication systems. This research focuses on the design of a 0.34 THz double corrugated waveguide-based interaction structure using a sheet beam. This choice allows the use of shorter pillars along with a narrow gap between pillar rows. Shorter pillars are easier to manufacture and a narrow gap is required for better interaction impedance. Circular beams restrict the use of larger pillars and narrow gap between pillars. The performance of this interaction structure is compared with a folded waveguide. Under the same operating conditions involving a 20 kV beam voltage and a 30 mA beam current, the double corrugated waveguide interaction structure exhibits impressive performance in simulations, featuring an interaction impedance of 0.52 Ω at 0.34 THz, an output power of 3.2 W, and a bandwidth extending to approximately 20 GHz. In contrast, the folded waveguide, as per simulation results, registers values of 0.43 Ω , 2.6 W, and a 12 GHz bandwidth, respectively. The proposed double corrugated waveguide-based interaction structure is fabricated using modern CNC machining. In this paper, a series of experimental and numerical studies were carried out to investigate the effect of multiple cracks on concrete fracture behavior. Seven groups of double-crack concrete three-point bending (TPB) experiments with different crack lengths and different crack distances were carried out. The experimental results showed that the bearing capacity of double-crack specimens was slightly larger than the standard specimen with one central crack. Additionally, with an increase in the second crack length or with a crack distance reduction, the concrete's bearing capacity increased correspondingly. Based on the experiments, a numerical meso-model was developed based on applying cohesive elements. The aggregate, mortar, interface transition zone (ITZ), and potential fracture surfaces were explicitly considered in the model. In particular, cohesive elements were used to characterize the mechanical behavior of the ITZ and potential fracture surfaces. A modified constitutive concrete model was developed by considering the potential fracture surfaces' damage relation and friction effect. The accuracy of the developed meso-model was validated through a comparison between simulation and experiments. Based on meso-models, the influence of multiple cracks on the concrete bearing capacity was investigated by analyzing the energy evolution. The analysis results showed that the bearing capacity has a linear relation with the proportion of mode II energy consumption during the fracture process, which explains why specimens with multiple cracks have a slightly larger bearing capacity than the standard specimens. In summary, this study has found that in three-point bending fracture tests primarily characterized by mode I fractures, the presence of multiple cracks near the main crack slightly enhances the load-bearing capacity of the specimens. The angular log-periodic meander-line traveling wave tube (TWT) is a kind of low voltage, small-sized, high power, low cost, on chip amplifiers, and considered as a key part of the advanced communication systems, the future biomedical applications and the next electronic counter measure (ECM) instruments et al. Here, an angular log-periodic meander-line TWT is presented in this article. The angular log-periodic meander-line slow wave structure (SWS) is supported by two diamond rods. The dispersion and the impedance characteristics are analyzed in detail. In order to reduce the reflection loss, a gradual ridged waveguide is connecting the input–output standard rectangular waveguide to the meander-line SWS. The particle in cell (PIC) simulations show that the output power of the TWT can reach 55 W at 34 GHz with the operation voltage of 1800 V and the beam current of 0.2 A. The SWS is manufactured by a laser machine with Molybdenum sheet. The assembled TWT is tested and the results show that the ${S}_{{11}}$ is less than −10 dB at 30–39 GHz. Terahertz (THz) backward wave oscillators (BWOs) hold immense potential for a broad range of industrial and military applications. This study presents a comparative analysis of 0.34 THz sheet beam (SB) and circular beam (CB) folded waveguide (FWG) BWOs. We examined the design, simulation (CST MWS and PS, HFSS), and performance, revealing that sheet beam BWO outperforms circular beam BWO in terms of interaction impedance, power, efficiency, and bandwidth. Under 20 kV beam voltage and 10 mA beam current conditions, sheet beam BWO achieves 0.47 Ω (0.34 THz) interaction impedance, 0.65 W output power, and a bandwidth of approximately 12 GHz, surpassing the 0.18 Ω , 0.23 W, and 8.5 GHz values of circular beam BWO, respectively. Furthermore, this study encompasses the fabrication and thorough characterization of the sheet beam BWO's slow-wave structure. The microstrip meander-line traveling wave tube (TWT) is a kind of small sized, low voltage, low cost, and easy to fabricate TWT. It is an attractive choice for many applications, such as communication systems, phased array radars, security detectors, and electronic counter measure (ECM) instruments. In this paper, a Ka band U-shape meander-line slow wave structure (SWS) supported by a diamond rod is presented. The dispersion characteristics of this meander-line SWS are analyzed using CST MW Studio. The S-parameter simulation results show that the reflection is below − 15 dB between 32 and 38 GHz, and the particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation reveals that this meander-line TWT can produce 57 W output power at 36 GHz, when it is driven by a 8.1 kV, 0.04 A sheet beam with rectangular cross-sectional area of 1.0 mm × 0.12 mm. This meander-line SWS is manufactured, assembled, and tested. The miniaturized traveling wave tube (TWT) is a kind of high-efficiency, high-power, long-lifetime power amplifier which is an attractive choice for many applications, such as outer space exploration, phased array radar detection, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communication, and on-chip application. In this article, a sheet beam miniaturized TWT with V-shaped meander-line slow wave structure (SWS) supported by two trapezoidal ceramic rods is designed. First, the dispersion characteristics, the impedance characteristics, and the S-parameters of the V-shaped meander-line SWS are analyzed in detail. Then, the particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation results predict that the TWT can produce 512-W output power driven by a 7.1 kV, 0.3-A sheet beam with a rectangular cross-sectional area of 3.5 mm $\times0.1$ mm. The TWT can cover the whole ${X}$ -band when the operation voltage shift from 7.1 to 9.1 kV. At last, the V-shaped meander-line SWS is manufactured, assembled, and tested. The good agreement between the simulated and the measured ${S} _{\mathbf {11}}$ has been achieved and the mismatch between the simulated and the measured ${S} _{\mathbf {21}}$ has been discussed at the end. High-power vacuum electron devices (VEDs) are attractive, because of their broad applications, such as advance radars, electromagnetic warfare, and plasma reactors. In this paper, a Ka band mega-watt sheet electron beam traveling wave tube (TWT) is reported. A two-staged rectangular waveguide grating slow wave structure (SWS) driven by a sheet electron beam (20 mm × 1 mm, 164.8 kV, 850 A, 20 ns) is used in this TWT. In order to suppress the self-excited oscillation, a rectangular BeO attenuator is inserted between the two-staged SWSs. The experimental results show that the TWT can produce more than 2 MW output power from 34.2 to 35.5 GHz. And the maximum output power is 4.24 MW at 35 GHz, corresponding to the gain of 25.9 dB. A dual-beam planar dielectric-rod-support uniform metallic meander line slow-wave structure (SWS) for high-efficiency Ka-band traveling wave tube (TWT) is proposed in this paper. Two dielectric rods are placed on both sides of metallic meander line to support it, instead of the dielectric substrate in the conventional microstrip meander line. Furthermore, it can not only solve the problem of the electron charge accumulation on microstrip but also leads to a bigger interaction impedance. According to particle-in-cell simulation results, a dual-sheet-beam planar dielectric-rod-support uniform metallic meander line TWT can get an output power of 330.2 W at 38 GHz under the case of 10.6 kV beam voltage and 0.2 A beam current. A Ka-band sheet electron beam (SEB) traveling-wave tube (TWT) based on three-slot staggered-ladder (TSTL) coupled-cavity slow-wave structure (CC-SWS) is proposed. The high-frequency characteristics of TSTL SWS were analyzed in detail. A well-matched input/output coupling system that solves the problem of energy coupling between the SWS and the external circuit was designed. A new method of loading the distributed attenuator for TSTL SWS was investigated for suppressing backward wave oscillation effectively. In addition, a SEB gun which can produce the SEB conveniently was optimized. A small tunable periodic cusped magnet (STPCM) system was designed to focus the low voltage, high-current SEB, which decreases the whole dimension of the TWT sufficiently. Moreover, the special STPCM system is predicted to exhibit 100% beam transmission efficiency. Finally, the beam-wave interaction was studied. The results obtained by CST simulation show that the SEB TWT can produce output power over 5 kW within the bandwidth ranging from 31.5 to 35.5 GHz, and the maximum output power is 10.15 kW at 33 GHz, corresponding electron efficiency of 10.36%. A 140-GHz folded-waveguide traveling wave tube (FWG-TWT) with a relatively larger circular electron beam tunnel was designed and developed. Using simulation software, the high frequency characteristics, the transfer characteristics, and the beam-wave interaction of the TWT were studied in detail. The simulation predicted up to 98 W output power and about 43 dB gain of FWG-TWT at the center frequency. The input and output couplers compatible with the FWG-SWS and the periodic permanent magnet focusing structure were designed. The FWG-TWT thus designed was fabricated and tested. The experimental result shows the output power exceeding 1.6 W and the gain exceeding 25 dB at 140 GHz when the input power is 5 mW. Angle log-periodic meander line microstrip radial sheet beam traveling-wave tube is one kind of novel minimized vacuum device with low beam voltage. To generate and focus the radial sheet electron beam, a novel radial divergent sheet beam electron optical system, including the tractable radial sheet electron beam gun and miniaturized and feasible radial small tunable periodic cusped magnetic focusing system, is proposed in this paper. The fan-shaped radial sheet beam is emitted from the cylindrical surface cathode, compressed in axial direction, and confined in azimuthal direction by the focusing electrode. Simulation results show that the total emission of the angular radial sheet beam gun is 51.2 mA with the dimensions of 0.26~\text mm \times 8 ° under the voltage of 1.7 kV, and the fan-shaped radial sheet beam can totally pass through the fan-shaped drift tunnel under the magnetic field. The experimental results are good in agreement with the simulation results. In this paper, a high-power Ka-band traveling-wave tube (TWT) driven by a sheet electron beam is proposed and demonstrated by means of the simulation and experimental methods. The single grating rectangular waveguide with large width-to-height ratio is used as the slow-wave structure (SWS). An $E$ -plane bend energy coupler is put forward to feed this wide SWS. An irregular transition structure between the input waveguide and the SWS is suggested and designed, which is beneficial to suppress the self-excited oscillation. For a practical electron beam (20 mm $\times \,\, 1$ mm, 150.1 kV, 850 A, and 20-ns), the output power of this single rectangular grating sheet beam TWT is larger than 750 kW from 34.5 to 35.4 GHz. In this paper, a novel small tunable periodic cusped magnet (NSTPCM) system is proposed for the purpose of realizing low voltage, big current sheet electron beam propagation in a long distance in engineering, which is composed of a series of position-fixed magnet blocks in alignment and freely sliding staggered pole pieces. This kind of NSTPCM not only generates higher magnetic field in the axial direction but also realizes more convenient adjustment of magnetic field in the transverse direction. This NSTPCM system has been successfully applied in a Ka-band sheet electron beam staggered double vane traveling wave tube. The tested sheet beam transmission efficiency is $>93$ % in a 112.7-mm-length slow-wave structure under the condition of beam voltage 24.3 kV and beam current 0.8 A. Moreover, the measured output power is $>75$ W in the range from 33 to 37.5 GHz, and the maximum output power is 128 W at 34 GHz. In this paper, a wideband 220-GHz sheet-beam traveling-wave tube (TWT) based on staggered double vane slow-wave structure (SWS) is investigated. A novel method of loading the attenuator into the SWS for suppressing backward wave oscillation is proposed. In addition, a novel focusing electrode of the sheet beam gun is carried out in this paper, which is a whole structure but divided into two parts artificially, one is used to compress the electron beam in $X$ -direction and the other is used to compress the electron beam in $Y$ -direction. In addition, a novel anode is redesigned to reduce the defocusing effect caused by the equipotential surfaces. A nonuniform periodically cusped magnet is used for focusing the sheet electron beam, which is predicted to exhibit 100% beam transmission efficiency in a 75-mm length drift tube. The high-frequency characteristics of the SWS and the beam-wave interaction are also studied. The results reveal that the designed TWT is expected to generate over 78.125-W average power at 214 GHz, and the 3-dB bandwidth is 31.5 GHz, ranging from 203 to 234.5 GHz. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

An accurate quantitative method for four prohibited ephedrine substances in human urine has been established, based on ultra-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC–MS/MS). The quantitative bias caused by pretreatment operations and matrix effects was reduced by the dilute and shoot pretreatment method. The good separation of isomers was achieved with the advantages of the UPLC instrument and Agilent Poroshell 120 EC-C8 UPLC column. Stable quantitative ions were selected during the analysis with MS/MS. The result of the method validation experiment showed an excellent linearity between 50% and 200% threshold concentration with a correlation coefficient (r 2) greater than 0.999. The coefficient of variation at the limit of quantification and threshold was <20% and 10%, respectively. The uncertainty was below the maximum uncertainty specified in the technical document of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The analytical result using this method has passed the WADA-external quality assessment scheme. Abstract: GdFeO3 and other rare earth substituted crystals with distorted orthorhombic pervoskite-like structure (space group Pbnm) have attracted much attention due to their remarkable magnetic properties of primary significance for technological applications. In the present work, the floating zone growth of GdFeO3 crystals has been systematically investigated and high quality GdFeO3 crystal was obtained by optimized process. The intrinsic magnetic properties of GdFeO3 crystal were investigated. GdFeO3 crystal displayed paramagnetic characteristic at low temperature, as temperature increased, a transition from paramagnetism to antiferromagnetism was observed. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The sheet beam vacuum electron device is an attractive choice for generating high-power high-frequency microwave radiation. A millimeter-wave sheet beam backward wave oscillator (BWO) is presented in this paper. The rectangular waveguide grating structure is used as its slow wave structure. The BWO is driven by a sheet beam with a cross-sectional area of 30 mm \times 1 mm which is generated by a thin cathode. For a beam voltage of 167 kV and a beam current of 1.4 kA, the output power is 40 MW at 36.6 GHz. The beam–wave interaction efficiency is about 17%, which is higher than that of conventional hollow beam BWO. Abstract: The anodes with different morphology for DMFC were prepared, and the influences of the microstructure of anode catalyst layer on their electrochemical performance were investigated by scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), proton induced X-ray emission (PIXE) and electrochemical methods, respectively. The surface morphology of catalyst layer was observed by SEM, and the elements dispersion status and its distribution of activity intensity on electrode catalyst layer were mapped by PIXE and SECM, respectively. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and anode polarization experiment were employed to analyze the electrochemical properties of anode. The results reveal that the anode with a relative smooth surface of catalyst layer and less cracks shows good interfacial properties and the lower resistance on the electrode reaction of methanol, and its maximum power of MEA as a single cell was about 178mWcm−2 at 70°C. A novel polymer electrolyte composed of poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP), poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP), ethylene carbonate (EC), dimethyl carbonate (DMC), and LiBF4 salts has been prepared. The transport properties were measured including the conductivity, the salt diffusion coefficient, and the lithium ion transference number. The polymer electrolyte based on the blend of PVDF-HFP and PVP exhibited ionic conductivity of 0.4 mS cm−1 at room temperature when PVP:PVDF-HFP:liquid electrolyte was about 1:10:18 by weight. The salt diffusion coefficient, cation transference number, and electrochemical window were determined by restricted diffusion experiment, steady state polarization, and linear sweep voltammetry method, respectively. The lithium ion battery with the polymer electrolyte based on the blend of PVDF-HFP and PVP was assembled and the initial coulombic efficiency was about 90%. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Enormous concerns focus on the high-power and wide bandwidth traveling-wave tube (TWT) for its outstanding performance. In this article, a shape-optimized staggered double-vane slow-wave structure (SWS) for terahertz (THz) sheet beam TWT is proposed. The shape-optimized staggered double-vane SWS takes the advantages of higher interaction impedance, lower transmission loss, and lower phase velocity than conventional staggered double-vane SWSs. The shape-optimized staggered double-vane SWS with 85 periods is designed, fabricated, and cold tested. The measured transmission loss of the shape-optimized staggered double-vane SWS is less than 0.79 dB/cm in the frequency range of 0.211–0.26 THz, which is in good agreement with the simulation results. Furthermore, the beam–wave interaction analysis of a sheet beam TWT with this SWS is given. The output power is predicted to be >100 W with 3-dB bandwidth of >50 GHz. The results show that the shape-optimized staggered double-vane SWS is a very promising scheme to construct a high-power and wideband THz TWT for future applications such as communication and imaging. A new slow wave structure (SWS), named E-plane loaded sine waveguide (EPLSW) SWS is proposed for the development of G-band traveling wave tubes (TWTs). The structure, derived from the sine waveguide (SW) SWS, features staggered rectangular gratings on the two E-planes, intersecting with the sine-shaped gratings. The natural electron beam tunnel lies between these gratings. The EPLSW-SWS offers improved characteristics compared to the conventional SW-SWS. High-frequency simulation studies reveal that the passband of the EPLSW-SWS extends by more than 33 GHz over the SW-SWS under identical dispersion conditions. Additionally, the interaction impedance of EPLSW-SWS surpasses that of the SW-SWS in the frequency range of 195–255 GHz. Further analysis through particle-in-cell (PIC) results presents that when operating at 19.5 kV and 145 mA for the sheet beam current, it attains a maximum saturated power of 132.7W and a 3 dB bandwidth exceeding 50 GHz. It is found that the plasma waves driven by an electron beam rotating in a magnetized overdense plasma can be converted into terahertz electromagnetic radiation by new mechanisms. According to the particle-in-cell simulation results, the radiation modes include a dominant extraordinary (X) mode at twice the plasma frequency 2 f p and a subordinate X mode at f p . The 2 f p radiation can be generated by the coupling of a beam mode and a scattered upper-hybrid (UH) mode, or by the coupling of a beam mode and a right-handed X mode. Here, the beam mode can be a UH mode or a left-handed X mode driven by the beam under the Cherenkov condition, and the right-handed X mode can be induced by high-order electron cyclotron maser instability. The f p radiation is the right- or left-handed fundamental X mode escaping from the plasma boundary. This study also shows that the breakdown of beam modulation is responsible for the radiation attenuation. In this article, an improved model for the beam–wave interaction of sheet beam in traveling wave tubes (TWTs) considering ohmic losses and reflections is presented. The ohmic losses are obtained by field analysis and equivalent method. The space charge magnetic field is derived from the active Helmholtz’s equation. An algorithm to obtain the S-matrix by the equivalent circuit method is presented. The relativistic Boris method is applied to accelerate macroparticles. The exchanged power is computed by the work the electromagnetic field applied to the macroparticles. The theoretical model is applied for validation to a G-band staggered double vane TWT and validated in comparison with CST Particle Studio and simulations without losses and reflections. A novel electron-optical system is proposed for dual azimuthally stacked radial sheet electron beams (ARSEBs). The two sheet beams are emitted from curved surfaces of two cathodes and are focused by a focusing electrode, which is carefully designed to produce a symmetric field distribution for the two beams and to avoid interference between the beams. A common tunable periodic cusped magnetic focusing system is also designed to focus the two ARSEBs. The dual sheet beams are used in a traveling wave tube (TWT) consisting of a cascade of two azimuthally supported angular log-periodic strip-line (ASALS) slow-wave structures (SWSs). The transmission efficiency in the presence of beam–wave interaction is 93%. The particle-in-cell simulation results show that for a beam voltage of 4400 V and a current of 0.39 A, the proposed cascaded TWT has a maximum gain of 32.5 dB at 35 GHz and a maximum output power of 180 W; this is a significant gain improvement over a TWT using a single ASALS SWS. A novel sine groove waveguide slow wave structure (SGW-SWS), originated from the sine waveguide (SW), is proposed for a wideband terahertz (THz) traveling wave tube (TWT). SGW-SWS not only has high interaction impedance in a relatively wide frequency band, but also has a wide beam tunnel. In addition, it can be fabricated using the Nano-Computer Numerical Control (CNC) milling techniques. The high-frequency simulation results show that, under the same dispersion, the passband of SGW-SWS is 23 GHz wider than that of SW-SWS, and the average interaction impedance of SGW-SWS is higher than that of SW-SWS in the whole passband. And the transverse dimension of beam tunnel is independent of the dispersion characteristics of SGW-SWS, so the beam current can be further increased by enlarging the size of beam tunnel. Moreover, the particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation results reveal that the saturated power and electronic efficiency of SGW-TWT in the frequency range of 201–260 GHz are more than 84.9 W and 2.72%, respectively, when the operating voltage is 20.8 kV and the beam current is 150 mA. In this article, a novel dielectric-supported staggered dual-meander-line (DS-SDML) planar slow-wave structure (SWS) is proposed for a traveling wave tube (TWT) working at ${E}$ -band. The proposed staggered arrangement of meander-lines (MLs) leads to a stronger beam–wave interaction and achieves higher output power as compared to the symmetric arrangement. The input–output couplers have been designed by using staggered stepped double ridge waveguide, to connect the standard ${E}$ -band rectangular waveguide and the DS-SDML SWS. An attenuator and pitch tapering have been applied to the proposed SWS to suppress the unwanted frequencies and to improve the output power. Particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation results show that for an 11.8-kV, 200-mA sheet-beam, the output power can reach 283 W at 75 GHz, with a maximum gain and electronic efficiency of 34.5 dB and 11.9%, respectively. A novel Ka-band azimuthal supported angular log-periodic strip-line (ASALS) slow wave structure (SWS) is proposed for a miniature radial sheet beam traveling wave tube (TWT). In the proposed SWS, two dielectric rods are employed to support the ASALS at both azimuthal sides. The strip-line is made of high-melting metal; thus, the ASALS SWS has a higher power capacity than microstrip SWSs. The high-frequency characteristics of that proposed SWS are investigated by using simulation software. The ASALS SWS is then fabricated and assembled for cold test. The measured transmission loss and reflection loss are better than − 2.5 dB and − 10 dB, respectively. The hot performance of the proposed is studied based on particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation. It is shown that when the operating voltage is 5700 V, the ASALS TWT can give a maximum output power of 320 W at the frequency of 39 GHz, corresponding to a gain of 14.9 dB and electron efficiency of 9.12%. In this paper, a novel angular log-periodic folded groove waveguide (ALFGW) slow-wave structure (SWS) has been investigated theoretically and experimentally for application in Ka-band traveling-wave tubes (TWTs). The dispersion relation for the ALFGW is derived analytically, and the dispersion characteristics are calculated for a Ka-band design. The designed SWS is fabricated using oxygen-free-copper that is silver electroplated. The measured cold-test parameters show good agreement with the simulation results, with S21 varying from −2.7 dB to −4.8 dB and S11 better than −13.6 dB over the frequency range of 30–38 GHz. Simulations of beam–wave interactions using a 4850 V and 0.4 A sheet beam with a high aspect ratio of 28:1 indicate an output power of 128 W, corresponding to a maximum gain and electronic efficiency of 18.1 dB and 6.6%, respectively. Due to the log-periodic form, a higher output power, higher efficiency, wider bandwidth, and lower operating voltage are achieved as compared to a TWT based on the conventional folded groove waveguide (FGW) SWS. Based on the reversed Cherenkov radiation excited in metamaterials, a novel S-band reversed Cherenkov radiation amplifier (RCRA) with two output ports is proposed in this paper. Its metamaterial slow-wave structure (MSWS) consists of a hollow circular waveguide periodically loaded with all-metal double-ridge complementary electric split-ring resonators (CeSRRs). The CeSRR exhibits subwavelength and strong resonance characteristics, which lead to miniaturization and high interaction impedance of the MSWS. The period of the MSWS is optimized using the phase velocity jump technique to further increase the output power and electronic efficiency. The simulation results demonstrate that when the microwave signal of 7.8 W at 2.286 GHz is inputted at port 2, the output power at port 1 is 307 W, and the saturated output power and saturated gain at port 3 are 5.48 kW and 28.47 dB, respectively. Notably, the total electronic efficiency of the RCRA is predicted as 33.84%. In this paper, a stacked dual beam electron gun and the associated electron optical system are proposed. The stacked dual beam electron gun includes two compact focusing electrodes which help to achieve dual sheet beams. As an application of this dual beam electron gun, a 340 GHz integrated dual beam traveling wave tube (TWT) based on the staggered dual vane slow-wave structure (SWS) is also put forward. In order to reduce the length of the TWT, a novel input/output coupler is introduced. The overall transmission characteristics of the SWS structure together with the input/output couplers show a wide bandwidth covering a frequency range of 306 GHz to 360 GHz. Based on the parameters obtained for the integrated TWT, a stacked dual-beam electron gun with dual focusing electrodes is designed to achieve a beam current of 43 mA, a beam voltage of 21.4 kV, and a cross-sectional size of each beam of 0.3 mm × 0.08 mm. A uniform magnetic field of 0.52 T is utilized to focus the dual electron beams, and a beam transmission efficiency of 97.1% is achieved over a length of 50 mm. Finally, particle in cell simulation results show that the integrated dual-beam TWT can generate an output power of 5 W over the frequency range of 315 GHz to 350 GHz, with the maximum output power of 24.5 W at 330 GHz. In this paper, a novel staggered double-segmented grating slow-wave structure (SDSG-SWS) is developed for wide-band high-power submillimeter wave traveling-wave tubes (TWTs). The SDSG-SWS can be considered as a combination of the sine waveguide (SW) SWS and the staggered double-grating (SDG) SWS; that is, it is obtained by introducing the rectangular geometric ridges of the SDG-SWS into the SW-SWS. Thus, the SDSG-SWS has the advantages of the wide operating band, high interaction impedance, low ohmic loss, low reflection, and ease of fabrication. The analysis for high-frequency characteristics shows that, compared with the SW-SWS, the SDSG-SWS has higher interaction impedance when their dispersions are at the same level, while the ohmic loss for the two SWSs remains basically unchanged. Furthermore, the calculation results of beam–wave interaction show that the output power is above 16.4 W for the TWT using the SDSG-SWS in the range of 316 GHz–405 GHz with a maximum power of 32.8 W occurring at 340 GHz, whose corresponding maximum electron efficiency is 2.84%, when the operating voltage is 19.2 kV and the current is 60 mA. In this paper, an angular radial extended interaction amplifier (AREIA) that consists of a pair of angular extended interaction cavities is proposed. Both the convergence angle cavity and the divergence angle cavity, which are designed for the converging beam and diverging beam, respectively, are investigated to present the potential of the proposed AREIA. They are proposed and explored to improve the beam–wave interaction capability of W-band extended interaction klystrons (EIKs). Compared to conventional radial cavities, the angular cavities have greatly decreased the ohmic loss area and increased the characteristic impedance. Compared to the sheet beam (0°) cavity, it has been found that the convergence angle cavity has a higher effective impedance and the diverging beam has a weaker space-charge effect under the same ideal electron beam area; the advantages become more obvious as the propagation distance increases. Particle-in-cell (PIC) results have shown that the diverging beam (8°) EIA performs better at an output power of 94 GHz under the condition of lossless, while the converging beam (−2°) EIA has a higher output power of 6.24 kW under the conditions of ohmic loss, an input power of 0.5 W, and an ideal electron beam of 20.5 kV and 1.5 A. When the loss increases and the beam current decreases, the output power of the −2° EIA can be improved by nearly 30% compared to the 0° EIA, and the −2° EIA has a greatly improved beam–wave interaction capacity than conventional EIAs under those conditions. In order to improve the performance of sine waveguide (SW) traveling wave tube (TWT), an elliptical beam-tunnel sine waveguide (EBTSW) slow wave structure (SWS) is proposed. EBTSW-SWS not only has high interaction impedance in a relatively wide frequency band but also has an elliptical beam-tunnel. The simulation results of high-frequency characteristics show that, under the same dispersion, the passband of EBTSW-SWS increases by 30% compared to the SW-SWS, and the average interaction impedance of EBTSW-SWS is higher than that of SW-SWS in almost the whole passband. Moreover, the particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation results reveal that under the operating voltage of 20.8 kV and beam current of 150 mA, EBTSW-TWT can provide more than 70 W of saturated output power in the frequency range of 200-260 GHz, reaching the maximum power of 151 W at 220 GHz with the maximum electronic efficiency of 4.85%. The symmetrical microstrip angular log-periodic meander-line (ALPML) slow-wave structure (SWS), which is suitable for Ka-band low-voltage traveling-wave tubes, is described in this paper. The dispersion characteristics and coupling impendence of this kind of SWS are achieved by simulation. A radial uniform magnetic field of 0.4 T is developed using radially magnetized permanent magnets to focus the radial sheet electron beam. To exploit the potentialities of the symmetrical ALPML SWS, the beam–wave interaction is carried out with a radial convergent and a divergent sheet electron beam. For the radial divergent electron beam with a voltage of 791 V and a current of 0.3 A, an output power over 60 W with an electron efficiency of 26% at 30 GHz is achieved from particle-in-cell simulation. In order to alleviate the problem of achieving large powers beyond 10 kW at frequencies as high as 220 GHz, a two-stage, two-sheet-beam relativistic TWT (SBRTWT) was proposed. For one-stage SBRTWT, there exists instability phenomenon as the effect of electron noise will become large enough compared with the small input power. To avoid the effect, the gain of the first-stage tube was decreased, and its output power was employed to drive the second-stage tube. A large-width branch-guide energy coupler was proposed, analyzed and designed, which can solve the difficult problem to couple the amplified microwave from a wide waveguide to another wide waveguide. A two-beam SBRTWT of 70 kW output with a gain of 28.5 dB was predicted. The findings establish that the two-stage configuration provides larger output powers than the single-stage configuration of SBRTWT and call for further research in two-stage SBRTWT. This article studies and summarizes the operating characteristics of a ${G}$ -band folded waveguide traveling wave tube (TWT) amplifier enhanced by the $\pi $ -mode extended interaction cavities. Compared with conventional ${G}$ -band TWTs, the proposed amplifier can at once obtain a higher gain in a shorter interaction circuit length and ensure a proper operating bandwidth. The key of the design is introducing the $\pi $ -mode multigap resonant cavity with alternating wide and narrow slots, which will improve the working performance of the whole device by shortening the length of the interaction circuit, enhancing its interaction effect, and improving its gain of unit length. In this design, the operation bandwidth is expanded by stagger tuning technique. In addition, the influence of cavity loss is examined so that the optimal performance is achieved. The PIC simulation results show that when the operating voltage is 21 kV and the operating current 80 mA, the maximum average output power of the designed TWT amplifier is 65.78 W at 217.4 GHz, which is corresponding to the maximum gain and efficiency of 37.38 dB and 3.9%, respectively. In the particle-in-cell simulation study of this paper, it is found that the high-power terahertz radiation at twice the plasma frequency can be generated by the interaction between a weakly relativistic, large-radius, focused electron beam and an overdense plasma. The terahertz radiation is emitted from a multi-filament structure in the electron beam, which is caused by the coupling of the longitudinal two-stream instability and the transverse filamentation instability. The analysis of the k space of the plasma waves indicates that the radiation can be explained by the mode coupling among a forward oblique mode, a backward oblique mode, and a second harmonic radiation mode. The influences of the beam Lorentz factor and plasma density on the radiation power, efficiency, and coherence are also investigated. The present results not only contribute to the development of novel megawatt-level narrowband terahertz radiation sources, but also propose a potential terahertz radiation mechanism for the fundamental research of the beam-plasma system. A $Q$ -band traveling-wave tube (TWT) with profiled helix pitches and profiled inner diameters of slow wave structure (SWS) is proposed. The transmission characteristics of the $Q$ -band TWT are simulated by the Computer Simulation Technology (CST). In the operating frequency band (36.5–41.5 GHz), the simulated voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) is less than 1.5. In addition, the beam–wave interaction is simulated to predict the performance of the $Q$ -band TWT when the beam voltage and beam current are 8.5 kV and 60 mA, respectively, and the axial focusing magnetic field is 0.4 T. In the operating frequency band, the self-oscillation is well suppressed, and the device efficiency of the $Q$ -band TWT exceeds 63.5%, and the saturated output power and gain exceed 83 W and 45 dB, respectively, especially the device efficiency can reach the maximum of 69.5% at 37 GHz. When it is backed off 6 dB from the saturation, the device efficiency exceeds 40.5%, up to 42.7% at 39 GHz. Preliminary experiments have confirmed the design. A new kind of radial convergent sheet beam electron optical system, which can be used in low voltage Ka-band radial electron devices, is studied in this paper, including the beam production, transmission, and focus. A novel radial high perveance electron gun is proposed, and its volt-ampere characteristics are obtained by means of simulation. The focusing system using permanent magnet rings is put forward, by which a radial uniform magnetic field can be obtained. With the electron gun and focusing system, a 1600 V, 8 A, and 0.04-mm thickness radial convergent sheet beam was produced, and the simulation result shown that it can pass through a 16-mm \(\times 0.06\) -mm radial channel 100%. A 0.14 THz angular radial extended interaction oscillator (AREIO) is proposed in this article. The characteristic impedance (${R}/{Q}$), the normalized equivalent conductance (${g}_{e}$), and the starting condition of the cavity are calculated and analyzed. When the metal loss is considered, in order to achieve the starting condition, it is necessary to increase the period length (${p}$) to improve $\vert {g}_{e}\vert $. The performance of the AREIO is simulated by particle-in-cell (PIC). The voltage tuning range and the output performance under different angular angles of the cavity are investigated. Under the condition of lossless and the electron beam of 11.5 kV and 1.5 A, the peak output power and interaction efficiency of the AREIO (8°) are 5.46 kW and 31.7%, which have increased by 24.1% and 6.2% in comparison with conventional sheet beam. When considering the metal loss, the optimal angular angle will decrease to 4°. It is attractive to use sheet beam vacuum devices to generate high frequency, high-power microwave radiation. In this paper, we present the numerical and experimental studies of a high-power Ka-band sheet electron beam backward wave oscillator (BWO), in which the double-grating rectangular waveguide is used as the slow wave structure (SWS) for its thermal and mechanical robustness. The fundamental mode of this kind of SWS is an antisymmetric mode which has an antisymmetric longitudinal field distribution and will nonsynchronously interact with the electron beam on two sides of the electron channel along the vertical direction. We put forward a method to overcome this trouble in this paper. To drive this BWO, a high-power sheet beam is used with a cross section of 30 mm $\times\,$ 1 mm. A thin graphite cathode is used for its superiority in producing a high current, high-quality electron beam. For an experimental electron beam of 141 kV and 1668 A, the output power of over 46.8 MW at 31.68 GHz is obtained, which corresponds to a beam–wave interaction efficiency of 19.9%. Compared with the conventional hollow beam BWO and the single-grating rectangular waveguide sheet beam BWO, the double-grating sheet beam BWOs efficiency is higher, which indicates that the double-grating sheet beam device is promising for producing millimeter wave radiation with high power and high efficiency. In order to characterize and identify the chemical structure of the unknown compound, ultra performance liquid chromatography high resolution mass spectrometry (UPLC-HRMS), high performance liquid chromatography tandem quadrupole mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS), gas chromatography tandem quadrupole mass spectrometry (GC–MS/MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) instruments were applied in this work. Based on the combined data, the unknown compound was identified as 6β-chlorotestosterone. The aim of this study was to find urinary metabolic biomarkers of 6β-chlorotestosterone for clinical research and doping control analysis. Ten in-vivo metabolites including four phase I metabolites and six phase II metabolites were characterized and potentially identified. The detailed structure of the phase I metabolite was successfully obtained by GC–MS/MS analysis of trimethylsilylation (TMS) released upon dissolution, overcoming the absence of useful fragment ions to demonstrate the structure of sulfate metabolites. Two strategies including metabolic mechanisms and retention time variation of steroids were introduced to determine and distinguish 3α/β- and 5α/β- epimeric metabolites. A comprehensive evaluation was conducted on time of appearance and detection of each metabolite. The sulfate metabolite 6β-chloro-5β-androstan-17-one-3β-O-sulfate (S1) could be detected up to 12 days after oral administration, which was considered to be the long term biomarker for 6β-chlorotestosterone abuse in clinical research and doping control analysis. The surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) have been demonstrated with significant advantages in nano-photonic devices due to their ability to control and manipulate light. In this paper, the transmission characteristics of light and field properties of SPPs on the surface of different shapes of gratings in Kretschmann–Raether configurations are studied. With increase of frequency, the strength of SPPs and the light-SPP conversion efficiency decrease, and the conversion efficiency of grating is lower than that of the smooth gold film. The minimum reflection spectrum is obtained through connecting the minimum reflection coefficients corresponding to different incident angles. The valley points of the minimum reflection spectrums are close in gratings with different width while quite different in gratings with different groove depths, which means that the depth of the grooves in grating can regulate the maximum transmission frequency of light. The effective plasma frequency of metal grating is proposed to replace the plasma frequency of the gold film, which shows that the groove depth is negatively relevant to effective plasma frequency of the gold grating and the frequency of SPPs while the groove width does not affect them. Synthesizing the simulation results, we found that the effective plasma frequency of gold grating and dispersion relations of SPPs on the surface of grating change with the propagation trajectory of SPPs. The physical mechanism of this phenomenon is explained through an analogy of the surface wave on grating to slow wave in slow-wave-structure of vacuum electronic devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A novel electron-optical system (EOS) for ${G}$ -band traveling-wave tubes (TWT) is investigated by simulation and verified by experiment. The EOS includes a sheet beam electron gun, a tunable periodic cusped magnetic focusing (TPCMF), and a collector. An elliptical focus electrode (FE) featuring a simple geometry and easy fabrication is utilized to compress the pencil beam into the sheet beam with a cross section of 0.4 mm $\times0.1$ mm. The electron gun with a cylindrical cathode of 0.8 mm diameter generates the sheet beam with voltage of 22 kV and current of 115 mA. Based on the sheet beam electron gun, the TPCMF with easy assembly and compact size is then proposed. The experimental results show that the beam transmission is 92.1% within a beam tunnel (its length 21.2 mm and cross section 0.8 mm $\times0.15$ mm). The EOS is suitable for ${G}$ -band TWT. In this article, we propose a simulation method to investigate the noise mechanism of traveling-wave tube (TWT). Based on the nonlinear theory of Lagrangian description, 1-D noise model is established to analyze the shot noise and the velocity noise of the electron beam in the drift space, which clearly shows that the beam noise propagates along the electron beam with standing wave shape. The shot noise and the velocity noise can be periodically converted into each other along electron beam transmission, which is consistent with the prediction of the classical noise theory developed by Pierce and Danielson (1954). Using the nonlinear beam–wave interaction theory, the evolution process of the shot noise and the velocity noise of the electron beam transforming to the electromagnetic wave in TWT is illustrated. The calculated results show that the input position of the slow wave circuit may affect the noise power spectral density (NPSD) of the device. A new scheme for generating high power terahertz (THz) radiation by using two obliquely colliding electron beams in plasma is proposed. The particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation finds that a small beam intersection of high electron density is formed within a plasma wavelength when two thin electron beams collide. Meanwhile, the beam intersection can oscillate in a strong plasma wave driven by the two beams to produce THz radiation at double plasma frequency. A theoretical model is established showing that the radiation mechanism is the second-order current generated by the beam intersection oscillation. The angular distribution of the THz radiation is calculated by the theory, which agrees well with the PIC simulation. Compared with the existing high power THz sources, the scheme provided in this article has the advantages of a simple structure and no need for extreme parameter conditions, which is hopeful for applications in kilowatt-level coherent compact THz sources. Abstract: A detailed theoretical survey on the potential energy surface for the CH2CO+NCX(X=O, S) reaction is carried out at the QCISD/6-311+G(d, p)//B3LYP/6-311+G (d, p) level. The geometries, vibrational frequencies and energies of all stationary points involved in the reactions are calculated at the B3LYP/6-311+G(d, p) level. And the more accurate energy information is provided by single point calculations at the QCISD(T)/6-311+G(d, p) level. Relationships of the reactants, transition states, intermediates and products are confirmed by the intrinsic reaction coordinate (IRC) calculations. The calculations suggest that the channel producing CH2NCO+CO is the dominant one, and CH2NCO+CO is the major product for the CH2CO+NCO reaction. The results are in good agreement with experiments. And similarly, product CH2NCS+CO is the most important product for the CH2CO+NCS reaction. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

A dual-beam planar slow wave structure (SWS), named dielectric supported ring-bar SWS is proposed in this paper. The planar SWS is supported by two dielectric rods at the side edges, making it fit for dual sheet beam operation. The high frequency and transmission characteristics of the proposed SWS are investigated. The backward-wave oscillation and higher harmonic waves are effectively suppressed by setting two cathodes in the same plane parallel to the SWS and negative phase-velocity jumping. The hot performance of the proposed SWS is carried out by using particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation, in which two sheet electron beams (9.7 kV, 0.2 A) are employed to provide direct current power. With an input power of 1W, the output power is 180 W at 38 GHz and the corresponding gain is 22.6 dB. A novel slow wave structure (SWS), named staggered double corrugated waveguide (SDCW), is proposed for the development of wideband high-power terahertz (THz) traveling wave tubes (TWTs). The SDCW-SWS not only has the wideband characteristic of staggered double grating (SDG) but also has the high interaction impedance characteristic of symmetrical double grating. In addition, its tunnel width is independent of the lower cutoff frequency and can be further increased. Numerical Eigen mode calculations show that, under the same dispersion, the passband of SDCW-SWS is increased by more than 10 GHz compared with SDG-SWS, and the average interaction impedance at 195 GHz is increased by about 62%. A particle-in-cell simulation analysis confirms that the average output power, saturated gain, and electron efficiency of SDCW-TWT at 195 GHz are ~110 W, ~20.34 dB, and ~5.46%, respectively, when the operating voltage is 20 kV and the beam current is 100 mA. Traveling wave tube (TWT) is an attractive solution for wideband and high-power sources or amplifiers in the terahertz (THz) band. In this article, a novel slow-wave structure (SWS) for TWT, named double tunnel sine waveguide (DTSW), which is based on sine waveguide (SW), is proposed. The following key technologies are adopted: 1) the rectangular holes, at which the operating mode is cutoff, are alternately opened on the sine-shaped ridges to form two electron beam tunnels and 2) the lower surface of rectangular holes is flush with the top of sine-shaped ridges. Compared with the SW-SWS, DTSW-SWS has the wider operating band and higher interaction impedance under the condition that the phase velocity of the two SWSs is at the same level. In addition, DTSW-SWS is simple in structure and easy to fabricate. The particle-in-cell simulation results reveal that DTSW-TWT has an output power of more than 202 W in the frequency range of 202–255 GHz with the maximum power of ~405 W and electron efficiency of ~9.8% at 215 GHz, under the operating voltage of 23 kV and beam current of 180 mA.
