ObjectivesIn order to support the testing requirements of the international thermonuclear experimental reactor AC/DC converter system and apply to high-precision control standards for future fusion magnet power supplies, a real-time control system suitable for high-power DC test platforms was developed.MethodsChoosing the QNX real-time operating system as the core platform and combining it with reflective memory technology provided by GE company in the United States, a network architecture for real-time high-speed data exchange was built. The system was designed with multiple operation modes to cope with different testing scenarios, while implementing different levels of safety interlocking mechanisms to ensure equipment safety. This system possessed the capabilities of setting converter operating parameters, fault identification, equipment status monitoring, and millisecond-level real-time control and safety protection functions.ResultsExperimental validation has demonstrated the system’s stability and reliability in high-power environments, achieving precise control of 120 kA steady-state current and 500 kA pulse current. Furthermore, the system not only meets the basic requirements of real-time control but also ensures safe interlocking and continuous stable operation of the equipment during multi-mode operation.ConclusionsThe designed real-time control system for the high-power DC test platform achieves efficient multi-module synchronous management and fully complies with strict millisecond-level control cycle requirements.

On‐demand manipulation of light emissions is crucial for a variety of practical applications, including bio‐imaging and optical display, etc. Within this realm, the invention of metasurfaces provides powerful light–matter interaction capabilities for the control of multitudinous emission parameters. However, due to the omnidirectional, random, and incoherent nature of photoluminescence (PL) emission, the multiplexing modulation of PL remains a challenge and is rarely realized. Here, a direction‐decoupled light‐emitting metasurface (LEM) is originally demonstrated to display dual‐channel independent incoherent‐emission images based on guided‐PL manipulation. Utilizing the wavevector differences of guided‐PL between opposite pumping directions, the LEM is designed to enable selective unidirectional emission, thereby decoupling the directional freedom for PL multiplexing and realizing dual meta‐display. Besides, the direction‐multiplexed LEM can be integrated simultaneously with pumping‐light holography for multi‐dimensional meta‐display. Such programmable unidirectional emission manipulation and direction‐multiplexed PL meta‐display approaches promise light‐emitting techniques and can potentially find applications in multiplexing display, optical storage and encryption, etc. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The ability to extract somatic cells from a patient and reprogram them to pluripotency opens up new possibilities for personalized medicine. Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) have been employed to generate beating cardiomyocytes from a patient's skin or blood cells. Here, iPSC methods were used to generate cardiomyocytes starting from the urine of a patient with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Urine was chosen as a starting material because it contains adult stem cells called urine-derived stem cells (USCs). USCs express the canonical reprogramming factors c-myc and klf4, and possess high telomerase activity. Pluripotency of urine-derived iPSC clones was confirmed by immunocytochemistry, RT-PCR and teratoma formation. Urine-derived iPSC clones generated from healthy volunteers and a DMD patient were differentiated into beating cardiomyocytes using a series of small molecules in monolayer culture. Results indicate that cardiomyocytes retain the DMD patient's dystrophin mutation. Physiological assays suggest that dystrophin-deficient cardiomyocytes possess phenotypic differences from normal cardiomyocytes. These results demonstrate the feasibility of generating cardiomyocytes from a urine sample and that urine-derived cardiomyocytes retain characteristic features that might be further exploited for mechanistic studies and drug discovery.

Hydrogel materials endow the flat optics platform with active tuning capability, owing to their remarkable humidity‐responsive swelling behavior. Despite recent advances in hydrogel‐based devices for spectral tuning, their complex patterning processing and limited functionality obstruct them from practical applications. Herein, a single‐step direct‐printing technique is originally demonstrated with an active hydrogel material platform for realizing unprecedented multi‐field full‐color display dynamics. Through exploring the dose‐induced shrinkage on polyvinyl alcohol, the stepwise hydrogel nanocavities sandwiched by ultrathin metallic films can be directly printed by grayscale e‐beam lithography. Due to the tunable structural coloration from hydrogel nanocavity scaling, multi‐functionalities are successfully created for optical concealment, dynamic coloring, and dynamic full‐color holography. By encoding the cavity‐dependent transmission phase into the direct‐printed hydrogel platform, it originally enables the projected full‐color holographic dynamics in real‐time by simply exhalation, beyond the static holographic display or monochromatic holographic switching. The proposed active displays can rapidly respond to the surrounding humidity change at a millisecond‐level (< 150 ms). Such a direct‐printing strategy for hydrogel nanocavity represents a critical advance toward the unprecedented dynamic full‐color display, and suggests promising applications in optical security, gas sensing, multispectral imaging, full‐color holography, and next‐generation display techniques.
