Abstract aurora B kinase is highly expressed in several cancer cells and promotes tumorigenesis and progression, and therefore, it is an important target for drug to treat tumors. Quercetin was identified to be an antitumor agent. Herein, we report for the first time that quercetin inhibited aurora B activities by directly binding with aurora B in vitro and in vivo. Ex vivo studies showed that quercetin inhibited aurora B activities in JB6 Cl41 cells and A549 lung cancer cells. Moreover, knockdown of aurora B in A549 cells decreased their sensitivities to quercetin. In vivo study demonstrated that injection of quercetin in A549 tumor‐bearing mice effectively suppressed cancer growth. The phosphorylation of histone 3 in tumor tissues was also decreased after quercetin treatment. In short, quercetin can suppress growth of lung cancer cells as an aurora B inhibitor both in vitro and in vivo.

An ultra-wideband microwave monolithic integrated circuit high-power amplifier with excellent input and output return losses for phased array jammer applications was designed and fabricated using commercial 0.25-m AlGaN/GaN technology. To improve the wideband performance, resistive matching and a shunt feedback circuit are employed. The input and output return losses were improved through a balanced design using Langecouplers. This three-stage amplifier can achieve an average saturated output power of 15 W, and power added efficiency of 10% to 28%, in a continuous wave operation over a frequency range of 6 GHz to 18 GHz. Although Streptomyces species are major chitin-degraders in soil ecosystems, the expression of the diverse chitinase genes within Streptomyces coelicolor grown in soil has not been assessed. As a first step, the induction pattern of nine chitinase genes in S. coelicolor growing in autoclaved soil was compared with those in liquid cultures. The relative expression levels of nine chitinase genes were measured using real-time reverse transcription PCR. The expression of all chitinase genes was induced by chitin in both autoclaved soil and liquid cultures, but to different levels. The expression levels of five chitinase genes in autoclaved soil were significantly higher than those in the liquid cultures. In particular, a putative chitinase gene, chitinase H, showed the highest induction in autoclaved soil. The same induction pattern was confirmed in nonautoclaved soil, indicating that soil contains some factors affecting the expression of chitinase genes. The chiH gene product, ChiH, cloned in Streptomycetes lividans was secreted and exhibited chitin degradation activity that was stable within a wide range of acidic pHs. The disruption of dasR, a transcriptional regulator for the uptake of N-acetylglucosamine, abolished the expression of chiH, demonstrating that DasR is required for the regulation of ChiH expression.
