33. Managers' Perceptions of the Accountability of Corporate University Programs, Involvement in the Corporate University Programs and Commitment to the Organization

Abstract

Purpose: What remains uncertain with corporate universities is the contribution they provide to their organizations, particularly when considered from the perspective of managers. Managers are important stakeholders, as they may participate in carrying out the mission and policies that govern the corporate university and participate in the programs offered. Organizations would benefit from knowing more about the perceptions of managers. The purpose of this paper is to study managers' perceptions of the accountability of two corporate university programs in China and its relationship with the managers' overall involvement in corporate university programs and their commitment to the organization. Design/methodology/approach: The study was conducted in two state-owned organizations in China, a country in which many organizations have adopted corporate universities. A mixed-method approach was used to carry out the study. Findings: The results showed that there was a moderate relationship between the managers' perceptions of the accountability of corporate university programs, based on two management development programs and managers' involvement in corporate university programs and their commitment to the organization. The results also showed a low relationship between managers' involvement in their corporate university programs and commitment to the organization. Originality/value: The findings provide implications for managing corporate universities in China and enhancing the accountability of these initiatives. The study serves as a basis for future studies involving corporate universities and on the accountability of and involvement in training.

42. Hippocampal SIRT1 signaling mediates the ameliorative effect of treadmill exercise on anxiety- and depression-like behavior in APP/PS1 mice.

Abstract

Objective: Anxiety and depression-like symptoms occur in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease. Hippocampal Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) signaling mediates anxiety- and depression-like behavior. Exercise training improves anxiety and depression-like behavior in various disease models, such as the rat chronic restraint stress model, rat model of posttraumatic stress disorder, and rat model of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders. Here, we aimed to investigate whether exercise ameliorates anxiety- and depression like behaviors in APP/PS1 mice and explore the potential mechanisms. Methods: After eight weeks of exercise intervention, we assessed anxiety- and depression-like behaviors in Alzheimer's disease (AD) model mice. We then measured the levels of SIRT1, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator-1 alpha (PGC1α), nuclear respiratory factor 1 (NRF1), mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM), and mitochondrial biogenesis (CO2, ATP6, and mitochondrial content) using immunofluorescence, reverse transcription-quantitative real-time PCR, and transmission electron microscopy. Finally, we investigated the effects of pharmacological activation of SIRT1 on anxiety- and depression-like behaviors, the SIRT1/PGC-1α/NRF1/TFAM signaling axis, and mitochondrial biogenesis. Results: We first observed that treadmill exercise improved anxiety- and depression-like behaviors in six-month-old APP/PS1 mice and increased SIRT1 levels in the hippocampus. Pharmacological activation of hippocampal SIRT1 function also reduced anxiety and depression-like behaviors in APP/PS1 mice. Meanwhile, both treadmill exercise and pharmacological activation of hippocampal SIRT1 increased the levels of PGC1α, NRF1, TFAM, and enhanced mitochondrial biogenesis (CO2, ATP6, or mitochondrial content) in the hippocampus of APP/PS1 mice. Conclusion: These findings reveal that treadmill exercise reduces anxiety- and depression-like behaviors in six-month-old APP/PS1 mice by enhancing the SIRT1-dependent PGC-1α/NRF1/TFAM axis, promoting mitochondrial biogenesis in the hippocampus. Abstract

In order to accurately measure the level of competency frustration and what measures to take to alleviate the negative effects of competency frustration, 35 graduate students were selected to verify the effect of the frontal lobe α asymmetry (FAA) as a judgement of the competence frustration level using EEG experimental method. On this basis, through two stopwatch stopping experiments, 108 fire rescue personnel were selected to conduct the experiments to investigate the intervention effects of developmental feedback and compassion-focused therapy in turn. The results showed that frontal α asymmetry could be used as an EEG indicator for judging competency frustration, and the intervention method of compassion-focused therapy reduced the level of competency frustration of the subjects, while developmental feedback interventions did the opposite. The difference in the effects of the two intervention methods indicates that when intervening in competence frustration, it is easier to reduce the competency frustration by focusing on the subjects themselves than focusing on the completion of the task.
