Abstract

In this paper, we consider a two-phase flow model consisting of the compressible Navier-Stokes systems with degenerate viscosity coupled with the compressible Navier-Stokes systems with constant viscosities via a drag force, which can be derived from Chapman-Enskog expansion for the compressible Navier-Stokes-Vlasov-Fokker-Planck system. For general initial data, we establish the global existence of weak solutions with finite energy to the initial value problem in the three-dimensional periodic domain, and prove the convergence of global weak solutions to its equilibrium state as the time tends to infinity., Comment: 38 pages

20. Thermodynamic properties of ideal Bose gas trapped in different external power-law potentials under generalized uncertainty principle*

Abstract

Significant evidence is available to support the quantum effects of gravity that leads to the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) and the minimum observable length. Usually quantum mechanics, statistical physics doesn't take gravity into account. Thermodynamic properties of ideal Bose gases in different external power-law potentials are studied under GUP with statistical physical method. Critical temperature, internal energy, heat capacity, entropy, particles number of ground state and excited state are calculated analytically to ideal Bose gases in the external potentials under GUP. Below the critical temperature, taking rubidium and sodium atoms ideal Bose gases whose particle densities are under standard and experimental conditions, respectively, as examples, the relations of internal energy, heat capacity and entropy with temperature are analyzed numerically. Theoretical and numerical calculations show that: GUP leads to an increase in the critical temperature. When the temperature is lower than the critical temperature and slightly higher than zero Kelvin, GUP's amendments to internal energy, heat capacity and entropy are positive; As the temperature increases to a certain value, these amendments become negative. The external potentials can increase or decrease the influence of GUP on thermodynamic properties. Under the initial experimental conditions when Bose-Einstein condensation was first verified by sodium atomic gas, the influence of GUP can be completely ignored. Under certain conditions, GUP may become the dominant factor governing the thermodynamic properties of the system.

29. Integrated Omnidirectional Design of Non‐Volatile Solid Additive Enables Binary Organic Solar Cells with Efficiency Exceeding 19.5 %.

Abstract

Solid additives have drawn great attention due to their numerous appealing benefits in enhancing the power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of organic solar cells (OSCs). To date, various strategies have been reported for the selection or design of non‐volatile solid additives. However, the lack of a general design/evaluation principles for developing non‐volatile solid additives often results in individual solid additives offering only one or two efficiency‐boosting attributes. In this work, we propose an integrated omnidirectional strategy for designing non‐volatile solid additives. By validating the method on the 4,5,9,10‐pyrene diimide (PyDI) system, a novel non‐volatile solid additive named PyMC5 was designed. PyMC5 is capable of enhancing device performance by establishing synergistic dual charge transfer channels, forming appropriate interactions with active layer materials, reducing non‐radiative voltage loss and optimizing film morphology. Notably, the binary device (PM6 : L8‐BO) treated by PyMC5 achieved a PCE over 19.5 %, ranking among the highest reported to date. In addition, the integration of PyMC5 mitigated the degradation process of the devices under photo‐ and thermal‐stress conditions. This work demonstrates an efficient integrated omnidirectional approach for designing non‐volatile solid additives, offering a promising avenue for further advancements in OSC development. 30. Improving an Alternative Glycerol Catabolism Pathway in Yarrowia lipolytica to Enhance Erythritol Production.

Abstract

Engineering the glycerol‐3‐phosphate pathway could enhance erythritol production by accelerating glycerol uptake. However, little work has been conducted on the alternative dihydroxyacetone (DHA) pathway in Yarrowia lipolytica. Herein, this route was identified and characterized in Y. lipolytica by metabolomic and transcriptomic analysis. Moreover, the reaction catalyzed by dihydroxyacetone kinase encoded by dak2 was identified as the rate‐limiting step. By combining NHEJ‐mediated insertion mutagenesis with a push‐and‐pull strategy, Y. lipolytica strains with high‐yield erythritol synthesis from glycerol were obtained. Screening of a library of insertion mutants allows the identification of a mutant with fourfold increased erythritol production. Overexpression of DAK2 and glycerol dehydrogenase GCY3 together with gene encoding transketolase and transaldolase from the nonoxidative part of the pentose phosphate pathway led to a strain with further increased productivity with a titer of 53.1 g/L and a yield 0.56 g/g glycerol, which were 8.1‐ and 4.2‐fold of starting strain. 41. Differential Protein Expression in Set5p-Mediated Acetic Acid Stress Response and Novel Targets for Engineering Yeast Stress Tolerance

Abstract

Acetic acid is a prevalent inhibitor in lignocellulosic hydrolysate, which represses microbial growth and bioproduction. Histone modification and chromatin remodeling have been revealed to be critical for regulating eukaryotic metabolism. However, related studies in chronic acetic acid stress responses remain unclear. Our previous studies revealed that overexpression of the histone H4 methyltransferase Set5p enhanced acetic acid stress tolerance of the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. In this study, we examined the role of Set5p in acetic acid stress by analyzing global protein expression. Significant activation of intracellular protein expression under the stress was discovered, and the functions of the differential proteins were mainly involved in chromatin modification, signal transduction, and carbohydrate metabolism. Notably, a substantial increase of Set5p expression was observed in response to acetic acid stress. Functional studies demonstrated that the restriction of the telomere capping protein Rtc3p, as well as Ies3p and Taf14p, which are related to chromatin regulation, was critical for yeast stress response. This study enriches the understanding of the epigenetic regulatory mechanisms underlying yeast stress response mediated by histone-modifying enzymes. The results also benefit the development of robust yeast strains for lignocellulosic bioconversion.

Abstract

Despite the increasing focus on incorporating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into education through curriculum mainstreaming, related research remains lacking. This study explored the representation of SDGs in Taiwan's national curriculum in terms of selection and organization. Through a content analysis of the social studies and natural sciences curriculum guidelines, the findings revealed that SDG-related content comprises a minor part of the guidelines and is not well organized, possibly due to limitations on discipline characteristics and curriculum types. A subtle but complex implicit curriculum reflects neoliberalism, which addresses SDG-related issues through market mechanisms and shifts the focus from power, politics, and citizenship to consumers' choices and lifestyles. The results provide a reference for policymakers and educators in re-examining underrepresented SDGs and dimensions and organizing them coherently. They also bridge the gap between the international framework and national curricula, laying the foundation for international comparisons, discussions, and debates on ESD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The persistent murine norovirus strain MNVCR6 is a model for human norovirus and enteric viral persistence. MNVCR6 causes chronic infection by directly infecting intestinal tuft cells, rare chemosensory epithelial cells. Although MNVCR6 induces functional MNV-specific CD8+ T cells, these lymphocytes fail to clear infection. To examine how tuft cells promote immune escape, we interrogated tuft cell interactions with CD8+ T cells by adoptively transferring JEDI (just EGFP death inducing) CD8+ T cells into Gfi1b-GFP tuft cell reporter mice. Unexpectedly, some intestinal tuft cells partially resisted JEDI CD8+ T cell–mediated killing—unlike Lgr5+ intestinal stem cells and extraintestinal tuft cells—despite seemingly normal antigen presentation. When targeting intestinal tuft cells, JEDI CD8+ T cells predominantly adopted a T resident memory phenotype with decreased effector and cytotoxic capacity, enabling tuft cell survival. JEDI CD8+ T cells neither cleared nor prevented MNVCR6 infection in the colon, the site of viral persistence, despite targeting a virus-independent antigen. Ultimately, we show that intestinal tuft cells are relatively resistant to CD8+ T cells independent of norovirus infection, representing an immune-privileged niche that can be leveraged by enteric microbes. Using mice with CD8+ T cells bearing a fluorescent protein-specific T cell receptor, Strine et al. found that intestinal tuft cells are intrinsically resistant to CD8+ T cell–mediated killing compared with other gut epithelial cells. Tuft cell–mediated immune evasion from CD8+ T cells enabled norovirus persistence in the colon.
