Adolescents with negative student--student relationships are at increased risk for bullying perpetration. Moral disengagement has been well documented as one of the main examined predictive variables of bullying perpetration. However, few studies have examined the mechanism of moral disengagement in the association between student--student relationship and adolescents' bullying perpetration. The present study examined the bidirectional associations among student--student relationship, moral disengagement, and bullying perpetration. Moreover, the present study tested the longitudinal mediating effect of moral disengagement and the moderating effect of gender. Participants were 2,407 Chinese adolescents (M[subscript age] = 12.75, SD = 0.58 at baseline). The cross-lagged panel model (CLPM) revealed that prior student-student relationship was associated with later bullying perpetration ([beta][subscript T1[right arrow]T2] = -0.11 and [beta][subscript T2[right arrow]T3] = -0.12), prior student-student relationship was associated with later moral disengagement ([beta][subscript T1[right arrow]T2] = -0.15 and [beta][subscript T2[right arrow]T3] = -0.10), and prior moral disengagement was associated with later bullying perpetration ([beta][subscript T1[right arrow]T2] = 0.22 and [beta][subscript T2[right arrow]T3] = 0.10). Furthermore, moral disengagement at Time 2 significantly mediated the association between student-student relationship at Time 1 and bullying perpetration at Time 3 ([beta] = -0.015). Gender moderated the mediating effect of moral disengagement. These findings highlight the importance of student-student relationship and moral disengagement in antibullying intervention programs.

Family incivility, as a new form of family interaction, is more common in daily life and has negative effects on adolescents. The current study explored the association between family incivility and suicidal ideation and tested a moderated mediation model to examine the role of hopelessness, self-esteem, sex, and age in this relationship. A total of 857 Chinese adolescents (mean age = 14.7 years, SD = 1.68) completed self-report measures of family incivility, suicidal ideation, hopelessness, and self-esteem. The findings revealed that family incivility had a positive predictive effect on adolescents' suicidal ideation, which was mediated by hopelessness. Self-esteem moderated the relationship between family incivility and hopelessness. Sex moderated the relationship between family incivility and hopelessness, as well as the relationship between hopelessness and suicidal ideation. Age moderated the relationship between family incivility and suicidal ideation as well as the relationship between hopelessness and suicidal ideation. In adolescence, individuals are at high risk for cyberbullying perpetration. Although the role of trait anger in cyberbullying perpetration has attracted attention in the research literature, it is unclear the temporal sequence between trait anger and adolescents' cyberbullying perpetration and whether stressful environments could interact synergistically with trait anger to create a profile of the particularly severe risk to adolescents' cyberbullying perpetration. This study contributed to existing knowledge by examining the longitudinal and reciprocal relationships between trait anger and cyberbullying perpetration and exploring whether peer pressure and family economic stress would moderate these relationships across 2 years (3 time points) with a cohort of Chinese adolescents (N = 2,407, M[subscript age] = 12.75 at baseline). The cross-lagged model revealed that prior trait anger was associated with later self-reported cyberbullying perpetration ([beta][subscript T1] [subscript right arrow] [subscript T2] = 0.09 and [beta][subscript T2] [subscript right arrow] [subscript T3] = 0.10), whereas earlier self-reported cyberbullying perpetration was not associated with subsequent trait anger. Peer pressure moderated the link between trait anger and self-reported cyberbullying perpetration. Family economic stress did not play a moderating role in the link between trait anger and self-reported cyberbullying perpetration. Findings suggest that cyberbullying perpetration prevention and intervention programs should attach importance to adolescents' trait anger and the way of getting along with their peers.

Cyberbullying perpetration has become an international public health concern among adolescents. Based on the general aggression model, the present study sought to examine whether deviant peer affiliation was significantly related to adolescents' cyberbullying perpetration, and whether moral disengagement mediated this association and self-control moderated this mediation process. A total of 2286 Chinese adolescents (M[subscript age] = 13.46, SD = 0.93) completed a series of anonymous questionnaires regarding deviant peer affiliation, cyberbullying perpetration, moral disengagement, and self-control. Results showed that adolescents who interacted with deviant peers were more likely to cyberbully others, which was mediated by moral disengagement. Self-control moderated the association between deviant peer affiliation and moral disengagement and the relationship between moral disengagement and cyberbullying perpetration, but not the relationship between deviant peer affiliation and cyberbullying perpetration. Specifically, compared to high self-control adolescents, low self-control adolescents with high deviant peer affiliation were more likely to develop high moral disengagement and further engage in cyberbullying perpetration. The present study contributes to our understanding of the key mechanisms underlying the association between deviant peer affiliation and adolescents' cyberbullying perpetration.

With the rapid advancement of communications technology and mobile devices, parental phubbing has become a gradually prominent factor affecting the development of adolescents. This study examined whether parental phubbing leads to adolescents' SNSs addiction and the roles of loneliness and self-esteem in this relationship. A total of 2,286 Chinese adolescents (M.sub.age = 13.46 years, range from 11 to 16) were recruited to report their parental phubbing, SNSs addiction, loneliness, self-esteem and several demographic variables. Results indicated that, after controlling for gender, age and family socioeconomic status, parental phubbing significantly predicted adolescents' SNSs addiction (b = 0.25, p < .001), and this relationship was partially mediated by loneliness (the ratio of indirect effect to total effect was 36.0%). Moreover, self-esteem significantly moderated the path from parental phubbing to loneliness (b = - 0.04, p < .05) as well as the path from loneliness to adolescents' SNSs addiction (b = 0.08, p < .001). Specifically, compared to adolescents with low self-esteem, high self-esteem adolescents reported less loneliness when facing parental phubbing, and performed more SNSs addiction after suffering loneliness. Parents who are concerned about their children developing SNSs addiction are supposed to invest more time in interacting with their children and caring for their children's self-esteem development.

Based on the social cognition theory, the current study explored the precipitating factors of cyberbullying perpetration from the perspective of adolescents' early life experiences (childhood psychological maltreatment) and individual characteristics (moral disengagement and empathy) with a view to prevent and intervene in adolescents' cyberbullying perpetration. Therefore, we built a moderated mediation model based on theoretical foundations and verified it with a large sample of data. Participants comprised 2348 Chinese students (mean age = 13.46 years, SD = .90) recruited from four middle schools. They provided self-reported data on demographic variables, childhood psychological maltreatment, cyberbullying perpetration, moral disengagement, and empathy. After controlling for age and gender, childhood psychological maltreatment was significantly and positively associated with cyberbullying perpetration, and moral disengagement partially mediated this relationship. Moderated mediation analysis further indicated that empathy moderated the relationship between childhood psychological maltreatment and cyberbullying perpetration as well as moral disengagement and cyberbullying perpetration. These two relationships became much weaker for adolescents with higher levels of empathy.

The present study examined the relationship between online disinhibition and adolescents' cyberbullying perpetration and investigated whether empathy and gender would moderate this relationship. A total of 2407 Chinese adolescents aged 11-16 years completed the questionnaires to measure their online disinhibition, empathy, and cyberbullying perpetration. Results indicated that high levels of online disinhibition were associated with high levels of cyberbullying perpetration, even after controlling for key covariates related to cyberbullying perpetration. Empathy significantly moderated the relationship between online disinhibition and cyberbullying perpetration. Specifically, this relationship was not significant at high levels of empathy. Moreover, the impact of empathy was moderated by gender. For male adolescents, online disinhibition was significantly associated with cyberbullying perpetration only when their empathy was low. For female adolescents, the relationship between online disinhibition and cyberbullying perpetration became nonsignificant, regardless of whether they had a low or high level of empathy.

This model was examined with 644 Chinese high school students by e-questionnaires (mean age = 16.85 years, SD = 1.23). The results showed that: (1) Peer alienation was positively correlated with cyber flaming, cyber pornography and cyber deception; core self-evaluation, father-child relationship and mother-child relationship were negatively correlated with peer alienation, cyber flaming, cyber pornography and cyber deception; (2) Peer alienation had significant positive predictive effects on cyber flaming, cyber pornography and cyber deception, and core self-evaluation played significant mediating roles in these relationships; (3) The mediating paths "peer alienation [right arrow] core self-evaluation [right arrow] cyber flaming/cyber pornography/cyber deception" were significantly moderated by mother-child relationship, and the mediation effects were more significant among adolescents with lower quality of mother-child relationship. (4) The direct paths "peer alienation [right arrow] cyber flaming/cyber pornography/cyber deception" were significantly moderated by gender, and the predictive effects were only significant among boys than girls. The current study is conductive to clarify the risk and protective factors for cyber deviant behaviors of adolescents, and mental health professionals should develop safe social interaction programs for adolescents at risk of cyber deviant behaviors.
