Abstract

A promising perspective is presented that humans can provide hourly warning for strong land earthquakes (EQs, Ms6). Two important atmospheric electrostatic signal features are described. A table that lists 9 strong land EQs with shock time, epicenter, magnitude, weather in the region near the epicenter, precursor beginning time, and precursor duration demonstrates that at approximately several hours to one day before a strong land EQ, the weather conditions are fair near the epicenter, and an abnormal negative atmospheric electrostatic signal is very obvious. Moreover, the mechanism is explained. A method by which someone could determine the epicenter and the magnitude of a forthcoming strong EQ is suggested. Finally, the possibility of realizing hourly warning for strong land EQs in the near future is pointed out.

Abstract

A promising short term precursor of major earthquakes (EQ) is very crucial in saving people and preventing huge losses. Ez, atmospheric electrostatic field vertical component, under fair air conditions, is generally oriented downwards (positive). Anomalous negative Ez signals could be used as an indicator of a great number of radioactive gases which are released from great number of rock clefts just before major earthquakes. Enhanced emission of radon radioactive decay will produce an anomalously large number of ion pairs. The positive particles will be transported downward by the fair weather electrostatic field and pile up near the surface. Finally, obviously and abnormally, an oriented upward atmospheric electric field Ez near the ground could be formed. Therefore, monitoring this Ez may be applied effectively in earthquake warning.

Abstract

In a recent paper Kendziora et al concluded that the superconducting gap in overdoped Bi-2212 is isotropic. From data obtained from electronic Raman scattering measurements, their conclusion was based on the observation that pair breaking peaks occured at approximately the same frequency in different scattering geometries and that the normalized scattering intensity at low energies was strongly depleted. We discuss a different interpretation of the raw data and present new data which is consistent with a strongly anisotropic gap with nodes. The spectra can be successfully described by a model for Raman scattering in a d_{x^{2}-y^{2}} superconductor with spin fluctuations and impurity scattering included., Comment: 1 page revtex plus 1 postscript figure

Abstract

The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) obtained by GreenSeeker sensors can be used to delimit fertilization management zones and realize variable fertilization. We used six GreenSeeker sensors to build a soybean NDVI data acquisition system, studied the effect of different number of GreenSeeker sensors on the delimitation of fertilization management zones. The NDVI data collected by the different number of GreenSeeker sensors were used to delimit the management zones by the fuzzy c-means algorithm. Silhouette coefficient and adjusted Rand index were used to evaluate the effect. The results show that using different number of GreenSeeker sensors has a particular effect on the delimitation of fertilization management zones. In the case of delimiting fertilization management zones through 10,000 NDVI data collected by three GreenSeeker sensors, silhouette coefficient is 0.563, and adjusted Rand index is 0.76. In the case of 20,000 NDVI data collected by three GreenSeeker sensors, silhouette coefficient is 0.559, and adjusted Rand index is 0.698. It indicates that the effect of using three GreenSeeker sensors on the delimitation of fertilization management zones is not different from that of using six GreenSeeker sensors. Abstract

Bulk Bi0.5Sr0.5Fe0.5Cr0.5O3 (BSFCO) is a new compound comprising the R3c structure. The structural, magnetic property and exchange bias (EB) details are investigated. The material was in the super-paramagnetic (SP) state at room temperature. Exchange bias usually occurs at the boundary between different magnetic states after field cooling (HFC) acts on the sample. Here the result shows that changing HFC from 1 to 6 T reduces the HEB value by 16% at 2 K at the same time. Meanwhile, HEB diminishes as the ferromagnetic layer thickness increases. The variation of (the thickness of ferromagnetic layer) tFM with the change of HFC leads to the tuning of HEB by HFC in BSFCO bulk. Abstract

Epitaxially orthorhombic DyMnO3 films were deposited on Nb:SrTiO3 (100) substrates by pulsed laser deposition. DyMnO3 film with weakly ferromagnetic at low temperatures, probably resulting from the strained Mn-spin configuration in the ab plane, is observed. The dielectric change under the magnetic field from 0 to 9 T at around 16 K indicates the magnet-dielectric effect, which should be related with Mn3+ spin reorientation and magneto-elastically inducing lattice modulation under DM (Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya) interaction in perovskite rare-earth manganites RMnO3.
