Metal artifacts in computed tomography (CT) imaging pose significant challenges to accurate clinical diagnosis. The presence of high-density metallic implants results in artifacts that deteriorate image quality, manifesting in the forms of streaking, blurring, or beam hardening effects, etc. Nowadays, various deep learning-based approaches, particularly generative models, have been proposed for metal artifact reduction (MAR). However, these methods have limited perception ability in the diverse morphologies of different metal implants with artifacts, which may generate spurious anatomical structures and exhibit inferior generalization capability. To address the issues, we leverage visual-language model (VLM) to identify these morphological features and introduce them into a dual-domain CLIP-assisted residual optimization perception model (DuDoCROP) for MAR. Specifically, a dual-domain CLIP (DuDoCLIP) is fine-tuned on the image domain and sinogram domain using contrastive learning to extract semantic descriptions from anatomical structures and metal artifacts. Subsequently, a diffusion model is guided by the embeddings of DuDoCLIP, thereby enabling the dual-domain prior generation. Additionally, we design prompt engineering for more precise image-text descriptions that can enhance the model's perception capability. Then, a downstream task is devised for the one-step residual optimization and integration of dual-domain priors, while incorporating raw data fidelity. Ultimately, a new perceptual indicator is proposed to validate the model's perception and generation performance. With the assistance of DuDoCLIP, our DuDoCROP exhibits at least 63.7% higher generalization capability compared to the baseline model. Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) have extended the success of large language models (LLMs) to multiple data types, such as image, text and audio, achieving significant performance in various domains, including multimodal translation, visual question answering and content generation. Nonetheless, existing systems are inefficient to train MLLMs due to substantial GPU bubbles caused by the heterogeneous modality models and complex data dependencies in 3D parallelism. This paper proposes Optimus, a distributed MLLM training system that reduces end-to-end MLLM training time. Optimus is based on our principled analysis that scheduling the encoder computation within the LLM bubbles can reduce bubbles in MLLM training. To make scheduling encoder computation possible for all GPUs, Optimus searches the separate parallel plans for encoder and LLM, and adopts a bubble scheduling algorithm to enable exploiting LLM bubbles without breaking the original data dependencies in the MLLM model architecture. We further decompose encoder layer computation into a series of kernels, and analyze the common bubble pattern of 3D parallelism to carefully optimize the sub-millisecond bubble scheduling, minimizing the overall training time. Our experiments in a production cluster show that Optimus accelerates MLLM training by 20.5%-21.3% with ViT-22B and GPT-175B model over 3072 GPUs compared to baselines.

Training Transformer models on long sequences in a distributed setting poses significant challenges in terms of efficiency and scalability. Current methods are either constrained by the number of attention heads or excessive communication overheads. To address this problem, we propose WallFacer, a multi-dimensional distributed training system for long sequences, fostering an efficient communication paradigm and providing additional tuning flexibility for communication arrangements. Specifically, WallFacer introduces an extra parallel dimension to substantially reduce communication volume and avoid bandwidth bottlenecks. Through comprehensive experiments across diverse hardware environments and on both Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Computer Vision (CV) tasks, we demonstrate that our approach significantly surpasses state-of-the-art methods that support near-infinite sequence lengths, achieving performance improvements of up to 77.12% on GPT-style models and up to 114.33% on DiT (Diffusion Transformer) models.

Nonlinear Hall effect (NLHE), as a new member of Hall effect family, has been realized in many materials, attracting a great deal of attention. Here, we report the observation of NLHE in magnetic topological insulator Sb-doped MnBi4Te7 flakes. The NLHE generation efficiency can reach up to 0.06 V^-1, which is comparable to that observed in MnBi2Te4. Differently, the NLHE can survive up to 200 K, much larger than the magnetic transition temperature. We further study the scaling behavior of the NLHE with longitudinal conductivity. The linear relationship with opposite slope when temperature is below and above the magnetic transition temperature is uncovered. It reveals that the NLHE originates from skew scattering. Our work provides a platform to search NLHE with larger generation efficiency at higher temperatures.

Hyperspectral anomaly detection (HAD) involves identifying the targets that deviate spectrally from their surroundings, without prior knowledge. Recently, deep learning based methods have become the mainstream HAD methods, due to their powerful spatial-spectral feature extraction ability. However, the current deep detection models are optimized to complete a proxy task (two-step paradigm), such as background reconstruction or generation, rather than achieving anomaly detection directly. This leads to suboptimal results and poor transferability, which means that the deep model is trained and tested on the same image. In this paper, an unsupervised transferred direct detection (TDD) model is proposed, which is optimized directly for the anomaly detection task (one-step paradigm) and has transferability. Specially, the TDD model is optimized to identify the spectral deviation relationship according to the anomaly definition. Compared to learning the specific background distribution as most models do, the spectral deviation relationship is universal for different images and guarantees the model transferability. To train the TDD model in an unsupervised manner, an anomaly sample simulation strategy is proposed to generate numerous pairs of anomaly samples. Furthermore, a global self-attention module and a local self-attention module are designed to help the model focus on the "spectrally deviating" relationship. The TDD model was validated on four public HAD datasets. The results show that the proposed TDD model can successfully overcome the limitation of traditional model training and testing on a single image, and the model has a powerful detection ability and excellent transferability.

Anomaly segmentation in high spatial resolution (HSR) remote sensing imagery is aimed at segmenting anomaly patterns of the earth deviating from normal patterns, which plays an important role in various Earth vision applications. However, it is a challenging task due to the complex distribution and the irregular shapes of objects, and the lack of abnormal samples. To tackle these problems, an anomaly segmentation model based on pixel descriptors (ASD) is proposed for anomaly segmentation in HSR imagery. Specifically, deep one-class classification is introduced for anomaly segmentation in the feature space with discriminative pixel descriptors. The ASD model incorporates the data argument for generating virtual ab-normal samples, which can force the pixel descriptors to be compact for normal data and meanwhile to be diverse to avoid the model collapse problems when only positive samples participated in the training. In addition, the ASD introduced a multi-level and multi-scale feature extraction strategy for learning the low-level and semantic information to make the pixel descriptors feature-rich. Tomographic image reconstruction with deep learning is an emerging field, but a recent landmark study reveals that several deep reconstruction networks are unstable for computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Specifically, three kinds of instabilities were reported: (1) strong image artefacts from tiny perturbations, (2) small features missing in a deeply reconstructed image, and (3) decreased imaging performance with increased input data. On the other hand, compressed sensing (CS) inspired reconstruction methods do not suffer from these instabilities because of their built-in kernel awareness. For deep reconstruction to realize its full potential and become a mainstream approach for tomographic imaging, it is thus critically important to meet this challenge by stabilizing deep reconstruction networks. Here we propose an Analytic Compressed Iterative Deep (ACID) framework to address this challenge. ACID synergizes a deep reconstruction network trained on big data, kernel awareness from CS-inspired processing, and iterative refinement to minimize the data residual relative to real measurement. Our study demonstrates that the deep reconstruction using ACID is accurate and stable, and sheds light on the converging mechanism of the ACID iteration under a Bounded Relative Error Norm (BREN) condition. In particular, the study shows that ACID-based reconstruction is resilient against adversarial attacks, superior to classic sparsity-regularized reconstruction alone, and eliminates the three kinds of instabilities.
