2. Convolutional Neural Networks and Volcano Plots: Screening and Prediction of Two-Dimensional Single-Atom Catalysts

Abstract

Single-atom catalysts (SACs) have emerged as frontiers for catalyzing chemical reactions, yet the diverse combinations of active elements and support materials, the nature of coordination environments, elude traditional methodologies in searching optimal SAC systems with superior catalytic performance. Herein, by integrating multi-branch Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) analysis models to hybrid descriptor based activity volcano plot, 2D SAC system composed of diverse metallic single atoms anchored on six type of 2D supports, including graphitic carbon nitride, nitrogen-doped graphene, graphene with dual-vacancy, black phosphorous, boron nitride, and C2N, are screened for efficient CO2RR. Starting from establishing a correlation map between the adsorption energies of intermediates and diverse electronic and elementary descriptors, sole singular descriptor lost magic to predict catalytic activity. Deep learning method utilizing multi-branch CNN model therefore was employed, using 2D electronic density of states as input to predict adsorption energies. Hybrid-descriptor enveloping both C- and O-types of CO2RR intermediates was introduced to construct volcano plots and limiting potential periodic table, aiming for intuitive screening of catalyst candidates for efficient CO2 reduction to CH4. The eDOS occlusion experiments were performed to unravel individual orbital contribution to adsorption energy. To explore the electronic scale principle governing practical engineering catalytic CO2RR activity, orbitalwise eDOS shifting experiments based on CNN model were employed. The study involves examining the adsorption energy and, consequently, catalytic activities while varying supported single atoms. This work offers a tangible framework to inform both theoretical screening and experimental synthesis, thereby paving the way for systematically designing efficient SACs.

Abstract

Glial-mesenchymal transition(GMT)is a biological process of transdifferentiation where endothelial cells gradually adopt the phenotypic characteristics of mesenchymal cells under the influence of various factors. GMT is closely associated with retinal fibrosis diseases. Müller cells, the predominant retinal macroglia, undergo activation and transdifferentiation in response to diverse stimuli and pathological conditions. Researches indicate that GMT plays a significant role in the pathogenesis of diseases such as diabetic retinopathy(DR), idiopathic epiretinal membrane(iERM), age-related macular degeneration(ARMD), and proliferative vitreoretinopathy(PVR). Although the exact mechanism of GMT is not well understood, it has showed great promise as potential target. Clarifying the research progress of GMT provides new ideas in the early diagnosis and treatments of retinal diseases, which is clinically and scientifically important for revealing interactive effects of cell transdifferentiation families in retinal diseases.

Abstract

Network quantization is a powerful technique to compress convolutional neural networks. The quantization granularity determines how to share the scaling factors in weights, which affects the performance of network quantization. Most existing approaches share the scaling factors layerwisely or channelwisely for quantization of convolutional layers. Channelwise quantization and layerwise quantization have been widely used in various applications. However, other quantization granularities are rarely explored. In this paper, we will explore the sub-layerwise granularity that shares the scaling factor across multiple input and output channels. We propose an efficient post-training quantization method in sub-layerwise granularity (PTQ-SL). Then we systematically experiment on various granularities and observe that the prediction accuracy of the quantized neural network has a strong correlation with the granularity. Moreover, we find that adjusting the position of the channels can improve the performance of sub-layerwise quantization. Therefore, we propose a method to reorder the channels for sub-layerwise quantization. The experiments demonstrate that the sub-layerwise quantization with appropriate channel reordering can outperform the channelwise quantization.

Abstract

Turbine blades are the most demanding components in aircraft engines, and their performance is related to the safety of the whole engine. Due to the complex service environment and harsh service conditions of blades, various types of damage cannot be prevented in service. Therefore, it is of great engineering and economic significance to study the service damage of blades. In this paper, the directional solidification alloy turbine blade after actual service was selected as the research object. The cross section position of 80% upper height of the blade was intercepted, and the qualitative and quantitative microstructure analysis was carried out by SEM and EDS analysis. The results show that there are two different types of γ' phases in this leaf. One kind of γ' phase has small size and regular shape, the other has large size and irregular shape. The degree of microscopic damage among different parts of the blade is characterized with the help of dimensional distribution characterization of the γ' phase of each part, combined with the analysis of hardness testing of each part of the cross-section.The results show that the service conditions of different parts are different, and the degree of microstructure damage is different. In addition, matrix crack and coating crack in some parts of blade are summarized and analyzed.

Abstract

The chemical modification of electrodes with organic materials is a common approach to tune the electronic and electrostatic landscape between interlayers in optoelectronic devices, thus facilitating charge injection at the electrode/semiconductor interfaces and improving their performance. The use of photochromic molecules for the surface modification allows dynamic control of the electronic and electrostatic properties of the electrode and thereby enables additional functionalities in such devices. Here, we show that the electronic properties of a transparent indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode are reversibly and dynamically modified by depositing organic photochromic switches (diarylethenes) in the form of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). By combining a range of surface characterization and density functional theory calculations, we present a detailed picture of the SAM binding onto ITO, the packing density of molecules, their orientation, as well as the work function modification of the ITO surface due to the SAM deposition. Upon illumination with ultraviolet and green light, we observe a reversible shift of the frontier occupied levels by 0.7 eV, and concomitantly a reversible work function change of ca. 60 meV. Our results prove the viability of dynamic switching of the electronic properties of the electrode with external light stimuli, which could be used to fabricate ITO-based photo-switchable optoelectronic devices.

Abstract

A multi-refractory gold deposit coated with carbon high arsenic sulfide was studied by hot pressing oxidation and cyanidation. The results indicate that the gold leaching recovery of the whole sulfide flotation concentrate is only 76.2% by conventional hot pressurized oxidation-cyanidation process, and the measurements such as decarbonization of hot pressurized oxidation solid product, raw ores pre-carbonization and segmentation flotation of sulfide and arsenic, are all difficult to improve the gold recovery. The effect of organic carbon can be completely eliminated by medium temperature roasting and then cyaniding, the gold leaching rate reaches 94. 7%, and the harmful component arsenic hardly enters the gas phase during roasting. The toxic leaching results of the mixture of roasting-cyanidation slag and neutralization slag of hot press oxidation eutralization slag can meet the general requirements of solid waste. Abstract

To address the common issues of lacking indicator system identification, causal relationship quantification, and path simulation analysis in the current research on safety performance in prefabricated construction, a method for improving safety performance in prefabricated construction based on the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) and NK model is proposed. Firstly, through theoretical analysis and literature review, the indicator system for safety performance in prefabricated construction is identified using the grounded theory. Secondly, expert research and quantitative analysis are combined to analyze the causal relationship of the indicators using the DEMATEL method. Then, the DEMATEL method is integrated with the NK model to carry out a key indicator adaptability modeling analysis and three-dimensional simulation. Finally, a case study is conducted to validate the usability and effectiveness of the proposed model and method. The results show that X6 (construction and implementation of safety management system) had the highest impact on the other indicators, and X14 (quality and safety status of prefabricated components) was most influenced by other indicators. X6 (construction and implementation of safety management system), X1 (personnel safety awareness and attitude), X14 (quality and safety status of prefabricated components), and X12 (construction site working environment) were identified as key performance indicators. "X6 (construction and implementation of safety management system) → X1 (personnel safety awareness and attitude) → X14 (quality and safety status of prefabricated components) → X12 (construction site working environment)" was considered the optimal path to improve construction safety performance.
