1. Purification Efficiency of Eutrophic Water by Three Submerged Plants

Abstract

The increase of nitrogen and phosphorus causes eutrophication in water bodies. Using submerged plants to decrease the pollution from water bodies is an effective way. In this research, three common submerged plants (Vallisneria natans, Hydrilla verticillata, and Ceratophyllum demersum) and their combinations were used to purify eutrophic water. The control treatment did not contain any plants. The removal effects and dynamic regulations of the three plants with their combinations of nutrients (such as nitrogen and phosphorus) in water were analyzed. All three species and their combinations above could grow in the eutrophic water and efficiently remove aquatic nutrients. All the treatment groups had a higher pollutant removal rate for total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) than that of the blank control. In these treatment groups, treatment F (50 g Vallisneria natans plus 50 g Ceratophyllum demersum) had the highest removal rate of TP at 57.53%; treatment B (100 g Vallisneria natans) had the best removal rate of TN at 92.04 %. Among these plants and their combinations, Vallisneria natans and Ceratophyllum demersum showed better purification ability; the combination of these two submerged plants and the combination of three submerged plants were more applicable for the restoration of eutrophic water.

Abstract

In global positioning system (GPS) positioning, the tropospheric delay is a systematic error. Mismodeling of the tropospheric delay results in a degradation of the estimated height component, and thus constitutes a limitation to high-accuracy GPS applications. As such, it is obvious that the tropospheric delay should be modeled as accurately as possible. Modeling the tropospheric delay for some applications, such as precise airborne kinematic differential positioning, is further complicated due to the large altitude difference between the ground-based receiver and the airborne roving receiver. This study tests and analyzes three methods for modeling the tropospheric delay, in an attempt to improve the accuracy of the height component for airborne GPS kinematic positioning. As there are several other error sources in GPS, the test and evaluation have to be carefully designed, as any improvements in accuracy due to the use of any tropospheric modeling approaches could be masked by other effects, such as residual orbit errors and ionospheric delays. The analysis is performed for real airborne GPS data and data from a multiple-base station network, and model performance evaluation is based on an independently well-determined aircraft trajectory. Test results show that the estimation of residual tropospheric zenith delay simultaneously with the position parameters after applying the tropospheric delay corrections derived from a network of GPS receivers is seen as the best option with an additional 62% improvement for the height component in terms of standard deviation when compared with results from using a UNB3 tropospheric model only. 13. A practical study regarding the effect of adaptive roller-skating on emotion regulation ability of autistic children.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Our aim is to analyze the effect of adaptive roller-skating on emotional regulation of autistic children. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Adaptive roller-skating course was designed for autistic children based on adaptive sports and A-B-A experiments. RESULTS: The adaptive roller-skating intervention focuses on improving emotional regulation ability, and directs the children to reasonably vent, recognize and stabilize their emotions. Adaptive roller-skating has a significant effect in intervening sadness, anger, anxiety and fear in autistic children; the intervention content setting and difficulty setting of the course have a certain impact on the intervention effect. Highly difficult and risky content can stimulate children. CONCLUSIONS: Adaptive roller-skating intervention course should obey the concept of adaptive movement in view of the differences between autistic children and the fun of roller-skating and guide the autistic children in emotion regulation with positive emotions. Abstract

In this study, unrelieved rock cutting experiments were conducted at the linear rock cutting machine and the characteristics of tool forces were discussed. The correlations among tool forces, specific energy, cutting depth, and rock strength were analyzed using single factor regression analysis method. Based on multiple non-linear regression method, the models of tool forces and specific energy were developed considering the rock strength and cutting depth. The results indicate that models of tool forces have the superior performance. When the model of specific energy is analyzed using the compressive strength of the rock, it was seen that the correlations are weak compared to the model related to tensile strength of rock. Abstract

The noise level was assessed by measuring and processing the sound pressure during the mechanical treatment of large size aluminum extrusions utilized in high-speed trains. The noise control tests were proposed by various machining technologies including the adjustments of cutter tool, machining feed rate, cutting way and sealing the openings with sound-absorbing material or not. The results indicated that obvious noise suppression can be obtained by using monolithic cutters, and sealing the openings and ports with sound-absorbing materials, which has little effect on the whole machining efficiency. It is helpful for noise reduction using the machining technologies of cutting along milling and slowing the feed rate down, which requires a balance between noise level and machining efficiency.

28. Effect of treating renal failure with decorin gene therapy.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To explore a new approach for treating renal insufficiency with gene therapy by implanting decorin (DCN)-expressing fibroblasts within the renal tissue of rats with renal failure to neutralize TGF-β1 activity. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The 5/6 kidney of the selected male SD rats were removed under aseptic conditions. The rats were grouped randomly after the establishment of the model. There were 10 rats in the sham-operated group (Group A), 10 in the operation control group (without treatment, Group B), 10 in the blank control group [treated with empty vector-transfected fibroblasts (FB (LXSN) cells), Group C], and 10 in the treatment group [treated with FB (LDCNSN) cells, Group D]. The pathological changes of rats including body weight, blood lipids, renal function, and renal histology, were observed. The expression of TGF-β1 and DCN in renal tissue was detected by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: There were no significant differences in body weight and blood lipids between the groups at 4 weeks after treatment. The levels of blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine in rats in Group D were significantly decreased compared with those in Group C (p < 0.05). Although the differences were not statistically significant, the levels of those pathological indicators are higher than baseline values. The expression of DCN in renal tissue increased significantly after 4 weeks in rats of Group D and the differences were significant compared with the other groups. There were no significant differences in TGF-β1 expression between any two groups of Group D, B, and C. Furthermore, pathological damage to the renal interstitium of rats in Group D was significantly decreased compared with that of Group B and C. Abstract

We report on a study of [ital W]+ photon production in approximately 20 pb[sup [minus]1] of [ital p][minus][ital [bar p]] collisions at [radical][ital s]=1.8 TeV recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. Our results are in good agreement with standard model expectations and are used to obtain limits on anomalous [ital CP]-conserving [ital WW][gamma] couplings of [minus]2.3[lt][Delta][kappa][lt]2.2 for [lambda]=0 and [minus]0.7[lt][lambda][lt]0.7 for [Delta][kappa]=0 at 95% C.L. We obtain the same limits for [ital CP]-violating couplings. These results provide limits on the higher-order electromagnetic moments of the [ital W] boson of 0.8[lt][ital g][sub [ital W]][lt]3.1 for [ital q][sup [ital e]][sub [ital W]]=1 and [minus]0.6[lt][ital q][sup [ital e]][sub [ital W]][lt]2.7 for [ital g][sub [ital W]]=2 at 95% C.L.

Abstract

The average b-hadron lifetime has been measured using a high statistics sample of {ital B} {r_arrow} {ital J}/{psi}{Chi} decays recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We use a sample with an integrated luminosity of {approx} 90 {ital pb}{sup -1} recorded during the 1994-95 running period. The decay vertices of {approx} 62656 inclusive {ital J}/{psi} {r_arrow} {mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup -} candidates have been reconstructed using information from a silicon vertex-detector. The measured {ital B}lifetime, which is the average over all b-hadrons produced in {ital p}{ital {anti p}} collisions at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV weighted by their branching ratios into {ital J}/{psi}, is 1.524 {+-} 0.015 ({ital stat}){sup +0.035}{sub -0.026} ({ital sys}) ps. The precision of this measurement is significantly improved compared to the inclusive lifetime measurement published previously using {approx} 10 {ital pb}{sup -1}.

Abstract

Mixed lineage leukemia (MLL) fusion proteins directly activate the expression of key downstream genes such as MEIS1, HOXA9 to drive an aggressive form of human leukemia. However, it is still poorly understood what additional transcriptional regulators, independent of the MLL fusion pathway, contribute to the development of MLL leukemia. Here we show that the transcription factor PU.1 is essential for MLL leukemia and is required for the growth of MLL leukemic cells via the promotion of cell-cycle progression and inhibition of apoptosis. Importantly, PU.1 expression is not under the control of MLL fusion proteins. We further identified a PU.1-governed 15-gene signature, which contains key regulators in the MEIS-HOX program (MEIS1, PBX3, FLT3, and c-KIT). PU.1 directly binds to the genomic loci of its target genes in vivo, and is required to maintain active expression of those genes in both normal hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells and in MLL leukemia. Finally, the clinical significance of the identified PU.1 signature was indicated by its ability to predict survival in acute myelogenous leukemia patients. Together, our findings demonstrate that PU.1 contributes to the development of MLL leukemia, partially via crosstalk with the MEIS/HOX pathway. © 2014 Macmillan Publishers Limited.

35. SETD2-mediated crosstalk between H3K36me3 and H3K79me2 in MLL-rearranged leukemia

Abstract

Previously, we identified SETD2 loss-of-function mutations in 22% of MLL-rearranged (MLLr) acute leukemia patients, implicating a mechanism for cooperativity between SETD2 mutations and MLL fusions. However, the detailed mechanism of how SETD2-H3K36me3 downregulation accelerates MLLr leukemia remains unclear. Here, we show that in MLLr leukemia, both H3K79me2 and H3K36me3 are aberrantly elevated and co-enriched in a group of genes. SETD2 inactivation leads to a global reduction of H3K36me3 and a further elevation of H3K79me2, but does not change the expression of known MLL fusion target genes. Instead, this pattern of histone changes is associated with transcriptional deregulation of a novel set of genes; downregulating tumor suppressors (for example, ASXL1) and upregulating oncogenes (for example, ERG). Taken together, our findings reveal a global crosstalk between the oncogenic DOT1L-H3K79me2 axis and the tumor suppressive SETD2-H3K36me3 axis in gene regulation, provide molecular insights into how SETD2 mutations accelerate MLLr leukemogenesis through differential regulation of additional tumor suppressors and oncogenes.

Abstract

Mixed lineage leukemia (MLL) fusion proteins directly activate the expression of key downstream genes such as MEIS1, HOXA9 to drive an aggressive form of human leukemia. However, it is still poorly understood what additional transcriptional regulators, independent of the MLL fusion pathway, contribute to the development of MLL leukemia. Here we show that the transcription factor PU.1 is essential for MLL leukemia and is required for the growth of MLL leukemic cells via the promotion of cell-cycle progression and inhibition of apoptosis. Importantly, PU.1 expression is not under the control of MLL fusion proteins. We further identified a PU.1-governed 15-gene signature, which contains key regulators in the MEIS-HOX program (MEIS1, PBX3, FLT3, and c-KIT). Abstract

We report a new measurement of dijet production by color-singlet exchange in p{ovr p} collisions at {radical}(s)=1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron. In a sample of events with two jets of transverse energy E{sup jet}{sub T}{gt}20 GeV , pseudorapidity in the range 1.8{lt}{vert_bar}{eta}{sup jet}{vert_bar}{lt}3.5 , and {eta}{sub 1}{eta}{sub 2}{lt}0 , we find that a fraction R=[1.13{plus_minus}0.12(stat){plus_minus} 0.11(syst)]{percent} has a pseudorapidity gap within {vert_bar}{eta}{vert_bar}{lt}1 between the jets that can be attributed to color-singlet exchnage. The fraction R shows no significant dependence on E{sup jet}{sub T} or on the pseudorapidity separation between the jets. {copyright} {ital 1998} {ital The American Physical Society}

Abstract

The cotton ball-like SnS2compound has been synthesised by a hydrothermal method. The structure, morphology and electrochemical performances of the as prepared materials are characterised by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy and electrochemical measurements. Results show that the SnS2compound exhibits three-dimensional cotton ball-like structures. The particle size of every petal displays the ranges from 100 to 200 nm. When the cell potential window is set between 0.01 and 2.0 V versus Li+/Li at the rate of 0.1 C, the initial discharge and charge capacities of SnS2are much higher than those of commercial graphite. Abstract

The noise level was assessed by measuring and processing the sound pressure during the mechanical treatment of large size aluminum extrusions utilized in high-speed trains. The noise control tests were proposed by various machining technologies including the adjustments of cutter tool, machining feed rate, cutting way and sealing the openings with sound-absorbing material or not. The results indicated that obvious noise suppression can be obtained by using monolithic cutters, and sealing the openings and ports with sound-absorbing materials, which has little effect on the whole machining efficiency. Abstract

We have used 106 pb^-1 of data collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab to search for new particles decaying to dijets. We exclude at the 95% confidence level models containing the following new particles: axigluons and flavor universal colorons with mass between 200 and 980 GeV/c, excited quarks with mass between 80 and 570 GeV/c^2 and between 580 and 760 GeV/c^2, color octet technirhos with mass between 260 and 480 GeV/c^2, W' bosons with mass between 300 and 420 GeV/c^2, and E_6 diquarks with mass between 290 and 420 GeV/c^2., 18 pages, 4 figures, 1 table.
