Conversion-type transition-metal phosphide anode materials with high theoretical capacity usually suffer from low-rate capability and severe capacity decay, which are mainly caused by their inferior electronic conductivities and large volumetric variations together with the poor reversibility of discharge product (Li3P), impeding their practical applications. Herein, guided by density functional theory calculations, these obstacles are simultaneously mitigated by confining amorphous FeP nanoparticles into ultrathin 3D interconnected P-doped porous carbon nanosheets (denoted as FeP@CNs) via a facile approach, forming an intriguing 3D flake-CNs-like configuration. As an anode for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), the resulting FeP@CNs electrode not only reaches a high reversible capacity (837 mA h g-1 after 300 cycles at 0.2 A g-1) and an exceptional rate capability (403 mA h g-1 at 16 A g-1) but also exhibits extraordinary durability (2500 cycles, 563 mA h g-1 at 4 A g-1, 98% capacity retention). By combining DFT calculations, in situ transmission electron microscopy, and a suite of ex situ microscopic and spectroscopic techniques, we show that the superior performances of FeP@CNs anode originate from its prominent structural and compositional merits, which render fast electron/ion-transport kinetics and abundant active sites (amorphous FeP nanoparticles and structural defects in P-doped CNs) for charge storage, promote the reversibility of conversion reactions, and buffer the volume variations while preventing pulverization/aggregation of FeP during cycling, thus enabling a high rate and highly durable lithium storage. Furthermore, a full cell composed of the prelithiated FeP@CNs anode and commercial LiFePO4 cathode exhibits impressive rate performance while maintaining superior cycling stability. This work fundamentally and experimentally presents a facile and effective structural engineering strategy for markedly improving the performance of conversion-type anodes for advanced LIBs.

Direct synthesis of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from CO2 and CH3OH holds significant economic and environmental value. Numerous catalysts have been employed for this reaction, yet further enhancement of its activity requires a deeper understanding of the catalyst's structure–activity relationship and catalytic mechanism. In this study, we utilized structurally well-defined and highly tunable MOF-808 as a research platform. Functionalizing MOF-808 with ethylenediamine (MOF-808-ED) boosted the space time yield of DMC from 3.25 mmol g−1 h−1 to 7.23 mmol g−1 h−1. The experimental results demonstrate that the reaction involves acid–base synergistic catalysis, where an appropriate balance of acid–base site content is crucial for CO2 and CH3OH to produce DMC, as it facilitates the formation of the key intermediates (CH3OCOO*). Additionally, the nucleophilicity of N is stronger than that of O, further promoting the catalyst's enrichment and activation of CO2. Finally, employing in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) testing, we elucidated the mechanism by which the MOF-808-ED catalyst, with –NH2 as base sites and Zr as acid sites, facilitates the synergistic catalysis of the reaction. This study provides insights into the synergistic effects of acid–base sites on the synthesis of DMC from CO2 and methanol, offering valuable guidance for the development of high-performance catalysts. Solids in nature can be generally classified into crystalline and non-crystalline states.sup.1-7, depending on whether long-range lattice periodicity is present in the material. The differentiation of the two states, however, could face fundamental challenges if the degree of long-range order in crystals is significantly reduced. Here we report a paracrystalline state of diamond that is distinct from either crystalline or amorphous diamond.sup.8-10. The paracrystalline diamond reported in this work, consisting of sub-nanometre-sized paracrystallites that possess a well-defined crystalline medium-range order up to a few atomic shells.sup.4,5,11-13, was synthesized in high-pressure high-temperature conditions (for example, 30 GPa and 1,600 K) employing face-centred cubic C.sub.60 as a precursor. The structural characteristics of the paracrystalline diamond were identified through a combination of X-ray diffraction, high-resolution transmission microscopy and advanced molecular dynamics simulation. The formation of paracrystalline diamond is a result of densely distributed nucleation sites developed in compressed C.sub.60 as well as pronounced second-nearest-neighbour short-range order in amorphous diamond due to strong sp.sup.3 bonding. The discovery of paracrystalline diamond adds an unusual diamond form to the enriched carbon family.sup.14-16, which exhibits distinguishing physical properties and can be furthered exploited to develop new materials. Furthermore, this work reveals the missing link in the length scale between amorphous and crystalline states across the structural landscape, having profound implications for recognizing complex structures arising from amorphous materials. The present study applied the social-ecological framework to explore factors associated with adolescents' experiences in bullying victimization in Taiwanese middle schools. Data include a random sample of 1,262 students, ages 13-15, from 43 middle schools in Taiwan's New Taipei City. Hierarchical generalized linear modeling was utilized to analyze the data, which included hierarchical and nested structures, such as individual and area level variables. Descriptive statistics and basic inferential analysis were conducted to test the hypotheses that individual (delinquency), family (parental monitoring), school (teacher support and teacher/staff punishment), community (community environment), and area levels (poverty rate) were associated with bullying victimization. Findings reveal that individual (Grade 7, conduct problems), school (teacher/staff punishment), community environment, and criminal activities had significant effects on bullying victimization in Taiwan. Implications for practice are discussed.

Polyethylene oxide (PEO)‐based solid‐state batteries hold great promise as the next‐generation batteries with high energy density and high safety. However, PEO‐based electrolytes encounter certain limitations, including inferior ionic conductivity, low Li+ transference number, and poor mechanical strength. Herein, we aim to simultaneously address these issues by utilizing one‐dimensional zwitterionic cellulose nanofiber (ZCNF) as fillers for PEO‐based electrolytes using a simple aqueous solution casting method. Multiple characterizations and theoretical calculations demonstrate that the unique zwitterionic structure imparts ZCNF with various functions, such as disrupting PEO crystallization, dissociating lithium salts, anchoring anions through cationic groups, accelerating Li+ migration by anionic groups, as well as its inherent reinforcement effect. As a result, the prepared PL‐ZCNF electrolyte exhibits remarkable ionic conductivity (5.37×10−4 S cm−1) and Li+ transference number (0.62) at 60 °C without sacrificing mechanical strength (9.2 MPa), together with high critical current density of 1.1 mA cm−2. Attributed to these merits of PL‐ZCNF, the LiFePO4|PL‐ZCNF|Li solid‐state full‐cell delivers exceptional rate capability and cycling performance (900 cycles at 5 C). Notably, the assembled pouch‐cell can maintain steady operation over 1000 cycles with an impressive 93.7 % capacity retention at 0.5 C and 60 °C, highlighting the great potential of PL‐ZCNF for practical applications.
