Alkaline water electrolysis is considered a commercially viable option for large-scale hydrogen production. However, this process still faces challenges due to the high voltage (>1.65 V at 10 mA cm$^{-2}$) and its limited stability at higher current densities due to the inefficient electron transport kinetics. Herein, a novel cobalt based metallic heterostructure (Co$_3$Mo3N/Co$_4$N/Co/Co) is designed for application for water electrolysis. Operando Raman experiments reveal that the formation of Co$_3$Mo3N/Co$_4$N/Co heterointerface boosts the free water adsorption and dissociation, resulting in a surplus of protons available for subsequent hydrogen production. Furthermore, the altered electronic structure of Co$_3$Mo3N/Co$_4$N/Co heterointerface optimizes the {\Delta}GH of nitrogen atoms at the interface. This synergistic effect between interfacial nitrogen atoms and metal phase cobalt creates highly efficient hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) active sites, thereby enhancing the overall performance. Additionally, the heterostructure exhibits a rapid OH- adsorption rate, coupled with a strong adsorption strength, leading to improved oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance. Crucially, the metallic heterojunction facilitates fast electron transport, expediting the aforementioned reaction steps and ultimately improving the overall efficiency of water splitting. The water electrolyzer with Co$_3$Mo3N/Co$_4$N/Co/Co as a catalyst exhibits outstanding performance, requiring an impressively low cell voltage of 1.58 V at 10 mA cm$^{-2}$ and maintaining approximately 100% retention over a remarkable 100 h duration at 200 mA cm$^{-2}$. This performance significantly exceeds that of the commercial Pt/C || RuO2 electrolyzer.

The electron microscope (EM) remains the predominant technique for elucidating intricate details of the animal nervous system at the nanometer scale. However, accurately reconstructing the complex morphology of axons and myelin sheaths poses a significant challenge. Furthermore, the absence of publicly available, large-scale EM datasets encompassing complete cross sections of the corpus callosum, with dense ground truth segmentation for axons and myelin sheaths, hinders the advancement and evaluation of holistic corpus callosum reconstructions. To surmount these obstacles, we introduce the AxonCallosumEM dataset, comprising a 1.83 times 5.76mm EM image captured from the corpus callosum of the Rett Syndrome (RTT) mouse model, which entail extensive axon bundles. We meticulously proofread over 600,000 patches at a resolution of 1024 times 1024, thus providing a comprehensive ground truth for myelinated axons and myelin sheaths. Additionally, we extensively annotated three distinct regions within the dataset for the purposes of training, testing, and validation. Utilizing this dataset, we develop a fine-tuning methodology that adapts Segment Anything Model (SAM) to EM images segmentation tasks, called EM-SAM, enabling outperforms other state-of-the-art methods. Topological states of matter and their corresponding properties are classical research topics in condensed matter physics. Quite recently, the application of materials that feature these states has been extended to the field of electrochemical catalysis and become an emerging research topic that is receiving increasing interest. In particular, several recent experimental studies performed on topological semimetals have already revealed high catalytic performance towards hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), strongly promoting acceptance of the fresh concept of the topological catalyst. This emerging concept has experienced rapid developments in the last few years, but these developments have been rarely summarized. Herein, we offer a comprehensive review on the state-of-the-art progress in developing topological catalysts for the HER process through topological semimetals such as Weyl semimetals, Dirac semimetals, nodal line semimetals, etc. The course of development, the general research routes, and the fundamental mechanisms in topological catalysts are also systematically analyzed in this review., Comment: 4 figures

Topological quantum catalysts (TQCs), where metallic surface states from nontrivial band topology serve as the mechanism to favor heterogeneous catalysis processes, have been well demonstrated in three dimensional (3D) examples but have been rarely discussed in 2D scale. Here, we develop a design scheme to realize 2D TQCs with showing traversing nodal line at the Brillouin zone boundary, large Fermi arc on the edge, and nearly zero Gibbs free energy ({\Delta}GH*) for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). We demonstrate the 2D Cu2C2N4 sheet is a such example. The material manifests an open nodal line traversing the whole k-path S-Y. It shows a long Fermi arc that spans the entire edge boundary, which is robust against spin-orbit coupling and the H adsorption. As the result, the edge of Cu2C2N4 sheet is relatively active for HER catalysis with possessing a {\Delta}GH* as low as 0.10 eV, which is comparable with that of Pt and superior to other traditional catalysts and 3D TQCs as well. Our work offers an effective route to develop high performance HER catalysis without containing noble metals by utilizing 2D TQCs with traversing nodal line.

Lorentz-violating type-II nodal lines exhibit attracting physical properties and have been hot discussed currently. However, their investigations have been mostly limited in nonmagnetic system because of lacking ideal spin-polarized candidates with clean type-II nodal line states. Here, for the first time, we report the family of X2YZ4 (X=K, Cs, Rb, Y=Cr, Cu, Z=Cl, F) compounds are such ideal candidate materials by using the member of K2CuF4 as an example. We show the material is a ferromagnetic half-metal with weak anisotropy, which host fully spin-polarized conducting electrons. In the conducting spin channel, the band crossing form a pair of type-II nodal lines, protected by mirror symmetry. These type-II nodal lines are different with former proposed examples because they have a 100% spin polarization. In addition, we also show the material can realize switchable topological states, which can be easily controlled by external magnetic field. It is noticed that, the material: i) is stable and can be synthesized in experiments; ii) has clear magnetic structure; and iii) manifests clean type-II nodal line state and clear drumhead surface states. We experimentally demonstrate the cesium electric quadrupole transition from the 6S1/2 ground state to the 7D3/2,5/2 excited state through a virtual level by using a single laser at 767 nm. The excited state energy level population is characterized by varying the laser power, the temperature of the vapor, and the polarization combinations of the laser beams. The optimized experimental parameters are obtained for a high resolution transition interval identification. The magnetic dipole coupling constant A and electric quadrupole coupling constant B for the 7D3/2,5/2 states are precisely determined by using the hyper ne levels intervals. The results, A = 7.39 (0.06) MHz, B = -0.19 (0.18) MHz for the 7D3/2 state, and A = -1.79 (0.05) MHz, B =1.05 (0.29) MHz for the 7D5/2 state, are in good agreement with the previous reported results. This work is beneficial for the determination of atomic structure information and parity non-conservation, which paves the way for the field of precision measurements and atomic physics.
