This study explores a relationship between the CO luminosity-full width at half-maximum linewidth linear relation (i.e. the CO LFR) and mean galaxy property of the local star-forming galaxy sample in the xCOLDGASS data base, via a mathematical statement. The whole data base galaxies were separated into two subsamples based on their stellar masses and redshifts, being a help to examine the dependence issue of the CO LFR. Selecting the galaxy data with a stringent requirement was also implemented in order to assure the validly of the CO LFR. An algorithm of the linear regression was conducted with the data of the subsample. An assessment about the linear correlation manifested a valid CO LFR occurs in the selected galaxy of the subsample, and the intercept of the CO LFR may be related with the mean galaxy properties such as the molecular gas fraction and galaxy size. For the finding on the intercept of the CO LFR, we aligned that intercept with those galaxy properties via the involvement of a $\psi$ parameter. On evaluating the $\psi$ value with our local star-forming galaxy sample, we numerically determined a relationship between the statistical result and the galaxy property in a different stellar mass range. Based on the $Insight$-HXMT archival data, we have detected a new atypical low-frequency quasi-periodic oscillation (LFQPO) in the black hole X-ray binary MAXI J1348$-$630. The new LFQPO is detected in all the three instruments of $Insight$-HXMT with a combined significance of 3--5 $\sigma$, covering a wide energy range of 1--100 keV. The fractional root-mean-square (RMS) seems decrease with energy. It exclusively appears in the hard state during both the main and mini outburst, spanning an X-ray intensity range by a factor of 10, and a very narrow hardness range. The frequency of this new type of LFQPO is moderately stable, in the range of 0.08--0.15 Hz. We discussed different models for the LFQPO, and found none is able to explain the observed properties of this new type of LFQPO., Comment: 20 pages, 6 figures. Accepted by ApJ

Room-temperature (RT) two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) ferromagnets hold immense promise for next-generation spintronic devices for information storage and processing. To achieve high-density energy-efficient spintronic devices, it is essential to understand local magnetic properties of RT 2D vdW magnets. In this work, we realize noninvasive in situ magnetic detection in vdW-layered ferromagnet Fe3GaTe2 using divacancy spins quantum sensor in silicon carbide (SiC) at RT. The structural features and magnetic properties of the Fe3GaTe2 are characterized utilizing Raman spectrum, magnetization and magneto-transport measurements. Further detailed analysis of temperature- and magnetic field-dependent optically detected magnetic resonances of the PL6 divacancy near the Fe3GaTe2 reveal that, the Curie temperature (Tc) of Fe3GaTe2 is ~360K, and the magnetization increases with external magnetic fields. Additionally, spin relaxometry technology is employed to probe the magnetic fluctuations of Fe3GaTe2, revealing a peak in the spin relaxation rate around Tc. These experiments give insights into the intriguing local magnetic properties of 2D vdW RT ferromagnet Fe3GaTe2 and pave the way for the application of SiC quantum sensors in noninvasive in situ magnetic detection of related 2D vdW magnets., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures

Color centers in silicon carbide (SiC) have demonstrated significant promise for quantum information processing. However, the undesirable ionization process that occurs during optical manipulation frequently causes fluctuations in the charge state and performance of these defects, thereby restricting the effectiveness of spin-photon interfaces. Recent predictions indicate that divacancy defects near stacking faults possess the capability to stabilize their neutral charge states, thereby providing robustness against photoionization effects. In this work, we present a comprehensive protocol for the scalable and targeted fabrication of single divacancy arrays in 4H-SiC using a high-resolution focused helium ion beam. Through photoluminescence emission (PLE) experiments, we demonstrate long-term emission stability with minimal linewidth shift ($\sim$ 50 MHz over 3 hours) for the single c-axis divacancies within stacking faults. By measuring the ionization rate for different polytypes of divacancies, we found that the divacancies within stacking faults are more robust against resonant excitation. Additionally, angle-resolved PLE spectra reveal their two resonant-transition lines with mutually orthogonal polarizations. Notably, the PLE linewidths are approximately 7 times narrower and the spin-coherent times are 6 times longer compared to divacancies generated via carbon-ion implantation. These findings highlight the immense potential of SiC divacancies for on-chip quantum photonics and the construction of efficient spin-to-photon interfaces, indicating a significant step forward in the development of quantum technologies., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures

We present a sample of 330 blue edge-on low surface brightness galaxies (ELSBGs). To understand the chemical evolution of LSBGs, we derived the gas-phase abundance and the [$\alpha$/Fe] ratio. Compared with star-forming galaxies, ELSBGs show a flatter trend in the mass-metallicity ($M_*-Z$) relation, suggesting that the oxygen abundance enhancement is inefficient. We focus on 77 ELSBGs with HI data and found the closed-box model can not explain their gas fraction and metallicity relation, implying that infall and/or outflow is needed. We derived the [$\alpha$/Fe] ratio of normal ELSBG ($<$ 10$^{9.5}$M$\odot$) and massive ELSBG ($>=$ 10$^{9.5}$M$\odot$) using single stellar population grids from MILES stellar library. The mean [$\alpha$/Fe] ratios are 0.18 and 0.4 for normal ELSBG and massive ELSBG, respectively. We discussed that the long time-scale of star-formation, and/or metal-rich gas outflow event caused by SNe Ia winds are likely responsible for the $\alpha$-enhancement of massive ELSBGs., Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures, Accepted for publication in ApJ

Color centers in silicon carbide have become potentially versatile quantum sensors. Particularly, wide temperature range temperature sensing has been realized in recent years. However, the sensitivity is limited due to the short dephasing time of the color centers. In this work, we realize a high sensitivity silicon carbide divacancy-based thermometer using the thermal Carr-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill (TCPMG) method. First, the zero field splitting D of PL6 divacancy as a function of temperature is measured with a linear slope of -99.7 kHz/K. The coherence times of TCPMG pulses linearly increase with the pulse number and the longest coherence time is about 21 us, which is ten times larger than dephasing time. The corresponding temperature sensing sensitivity is 13.4 mK/Hz1/2, which is about 15 times higher than previous results. Finally, we monitor the laboratory temperature variations for 24 hours using the TCMPG pulse. The experiments pave the way for the applications of silicon carbide-based high sensitivity thermometer in the semiconductor industry, biology, and materials sciences.

We identify and investigate a possible correlation between the $\rm{[CII]} 158{\mu}m$ luminosity and linewidth in the $\rm{[CII]}$-detected galaxies. Observationally, the strength of the $\rm{[CII]} 158{\mu}m$ emission line is usually stronger than that of the CO emission line and this $\rm{[CII]}$ line has been used as another tracer of the galactic characteristics. Moreover, many $\rm{[CII]}$-detected galaxies are identified in $z > 4$. Motivated by previous studies of the CO luminosity - FWHM correlation relation (LFR) and the available new $\rm{[CII]}$ measurements, we compile samples of the $\rm{[CII]}$-detected galaxies in the literature and perform the linear regression analysis. The $\rm{[CII]}$ LFR is confirmed at a robust level. We also demonstrate the possible application of the $\rm{[CII]}$ LFR by utilizing it on the distance measurement of the high-$z$ galaxy. As a result, we extend the cosmic spatial scale beyond the redshift $z$ of $7$. With the outcome of the distance measurement, we constrain the cosmology parameters in the Chevallier-Polarski-Linder model, which considers the evolution of dark energy. Consequently, the uncertainties of the $\textit{w}_{0}$ and $\textit{w}_{a}$ are reduced significantly when the measured distance data of the $\rm{[CII]}$-detected galaxies are included in the cosmological parameter constraint, exemplifying the potential of using the $\rm{[CII]}$-detected galaxies as a tracer to constrain the cosmological parameters., Comment: 18 pages and 6 figures. Silicon vacancy in silicon carbide has drawn much attention for various quantum sensing. However, most of the previous experiments are achieved using confocal scanning systems, which limit its applications in practical applications. In this work, we demonstrate a compact fiber-integrated silicon carbide silicon vacancy-based vector magnetometer at room temperature. First, we effectively couple the silicon vacancy in a tiny silicon carbide slice to an optical fiber tip and realize the readout of the spin signal through the fiber at the same time. We then study the optically detected magnetic resonance spectra at different laser and microwave powers, obtaining an optimized magnetic field sensitivity of 12.3 {\mu}T/Hz1/2. Based on this, the magnetometer is performed to measure the strength and polar angle of an external magnetic field, respectively. Through these experiments, we have paved the way for fiber-integrated silicon vacancy-based magnetometer applications in practical environments such as geophysics and biomedical sensing.

Pressure-induced magnetic phase transition is attracting interest due to its ability to detect superconducting behaviour at high pressures in diamond anvil cells. However, detection of the local sample magnetic properties is a great challenge due to the small sample chamber volume. Recently, optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) of nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers in diamond have been used for in-situ pressure-induced phase transition detection. However, owing to their four orientation axes and temperature-dependent zero-field-splitting, interpreting the observed ODMR spectra of NV centers remain challenging. Here, we study the optical and spin properties of implanted silicon vacancy defects in 4H-SiC, which is single-axis and temperature-independent zero-field-splitting. Using this technique, we observe the magnetic phase transition of Nd2Fe14B at about 7 GPa and map the critical temperature-pressure phase diagram of the superconductor YBa2Cu3O6.6. These results highlight the potential of silicon vacancy-based quantum sensors for in-situ magnetic detection at high pressures.

Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) is a remarkable two-dimensional (2D) material that hosts solid-state spins and has great potential to be used in quantum information applications, including quantum networks. However, in this application, both the optical and spin properties are crucial for single spins but have not yet been discovered simultaneously for hBN spins. Here, we realize an efficient method for arraying and isolating the single defects of hBN and use this method to discover a new spin defect with a high probability of 85%. This single defect exhibits outstanding optical properties and an optically controllable spin, as indicated by the observed significant Rabi oscillation and Hahn echo experiments at room temperature. First principles calculations indicate that complexes of carbon and oxygen dopants may be the origin of the single spin defects. Inconsistent conclusions are obtained from recent active galactic nuclei (AGNs) accretion disk inter-band time-lag measurements. While some works show that the measured time lags are significantly larger (by a factor of $\sim 3$) than the theoretical predictions of the Shakura \& Sunyaev disk (SSD) model, others find that the time-lag measurements are consistent with (or only slightly larger than) that of the SSD model. These conflicting observational results might be symptoms of our poor understanding of AGN accretion physics. Here we show that sources with larger-than-expected time lags tend to be less-luminous AGNs. Such a dependence is unexpected if the inter-band time lags are attributed to the light-travel-time delay of the illuminating variable X-ray photons to the static SSD. If, instead, the measured inter-band lags are related not only to the static SSD but also to the outer broad emission-line regions (BLRs; e.g., the blended broad emission lines and/or diffuse continua), our result indicates that the contribution of the non-disk BLR to the observed UV/optical continuum decreases with increasing luminosity ($L$), i.e., an anti-correlation resembling the well-known Baldwin effect. Alternatively, we argue that the observed dependence might be a result of coherent disk thermal fluctuations as the relevant thermal timescale, $\tau_{\mathrm{TH}}\propto L^{0.5}$. With future accurate measurements of inter-band time lags, the above two scenarios can be distinguished by inspecting the dependence of inter-band time lags upon either the BLR components in the variable spectra or the timescales., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, 1 table, ApJL accepted

Spin defects in silicon carbide (SiC) have attracted increasing interest due to their excellent optical and spin properties, which are useful in quantum information processing. In this paper, we systematically investigate the temperature dependence of the spin properties of divacancy defects in implanted 4\emph{H}-SiC. The zero-field splitting parameter $D$, the inhomogeneous dephasing time $T_2^{*}$, the coherence time $T_2$, and the depolarization time $T_1$ are extensively explored in a temperature range from 5 to 300 K. Two samples implanted with different nitrogen molecule ion fluences ($\rm {N_2}^{+}$, $1\times 10^{14}/\rm cm^{2}$ and $1\times 10^{13}/\rm cm^{2}$) are investigated, whose spin properties are shown to have similar temperature-dependent behaviors. Still, the sample implanted with a lower ion fluence has longer $T_{2}$ and $T_{1}$. We provide possible theoretical explanations for the observed temperature-dependent dynamics. Our work promotes the understanding of the temperature dependence of spin properties in solid-state systems, which can be helpful for constructing wide temperature-range thermometers based on the mature semiconductor material., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, 46 references

Antiferromagnetic (AF) spin fluctuations are commonly believed to play a key role in electron pairing of cuprate superconductors. In electron-doped cuprates, it is still in paradox about the interplay among different electronic states in quantum perturbations, especially between superconducting and magnetic states. Here, we report a systematic transport study on cation-optimized La2-xCexCuO4 (x = 0.10) thin films in high magnetic fields. We find an AF quantum phase transition near 60 T, where the Hall number jumps from nH =-x to nH = 1-x, resembling the change of nH at the AF boundary (xAF = 0.14) tuned by Ce doping. In the AF region a spin dependent state manifesting anomalous positive magnetoresistance is observed, which is closely related to superconductivity. Once the AF state is suppressed by magnetic field, a polarized ferromagnetic state is predicted, reminiscent of the recently reported ferromagnetic state at the quantum endpoint of the superconducting dome by Ce doping. The magnetic field that drives phase transitions in a similar but distinct manner to doping thereby provides a unique perspective to understand the quantum criticality of electron-doped cuprates.

Quasiparticle poisoning, expected to arise during the measurement of Majorana zero mode state, poses a fundamental problem towards the realization of Majorana-based quantum computation. Parafermions, a natural generalization of Majorana fermions, can encode topological qudits immune to quasiparticle poisoning. While parafermions are expected to emerge in superconducting fractional quantum Hall systems, they are not yet attainable with current technology. To bypass this problem, we employ a photonic quantum simulator to experimentally demonstrate the key components of parafermion-based universal quantum computation. Our contributions in this article are twofold. First, by manipulating the photonic states, we realize Clifford operator Berry phases that correspond to braiding statistics of parafermions. Second, we investigate the quantum contextuality in a topological system for the first time by demonstrating the contextuality of parafermion encoded qudit states. Importantly, we find that the topologically-encoded contextuality opens the way to magic state distillation, while both the contextuality and the braiding-induced Clifford gates are resilient against local noise. Compact steep-spectrum sources (CSSs) likely represent a population of young radio-loud active galactic nuclei (AGNs) and have been identified as gamma-ray emitting sources. We present a comprehensive analysis of their gamma-ray emission observed with Fermi/LAT and establish their broadband spectral energy distributions (SEDs). We derive their jet properties by the SED fits with a two-zone leptonic model for radiations from the compact core and large-scale extended region, and explore the possible signature of a unification picture of jet radiation among subclasses of AGNs. We show that the observed gamma-rays of CSSs with significant variability are contributed by the radiation of their compact cores via the inverse Compton process of the torus photons. The derived power-law distribution index of the radiating electrons is p_1~1.5-1.8, magnetic field strength is B~0.15-0.6 G, and Doppler boosting factor is \delta~2.8-8.9. Assuming that the jet is composed of electron-positron pairs, the compact cores of CSSs are magnetized and have a high radiation efficiency, similar to that of flat spectrum radio quasars. The six CSSs on average have higher Eddington ratio and black hole mass than those non-GeV-detected CSSs, and they follow the correlation between the jet power in units of Eddington luminosity (P_jet/L_Edd) and Eddington ratio (R_Edd) with other sub-classes of AGNs, P_jet/L_Edd~R_Edd^0.52, indicating that R_Edd would be a key physical driver for the unification scheme of AGN jet radiation., Comment: 37 Pages, 11 Figures, 4 Tables, accepted for publication in ApJ

Spin defects in silicon carbide (SiC) with mature wafer-scale fabrication and micro/nano-processing technologies have recently drawn considerable attention. Although room temperature single-spin manipulation of colour centres in SiC has been demonstrated, the typically detected contrast is less than 2%, and the photon count rate is also low. Here, we present the coherent manipulation of single divacancy spins in 4H-SiC with a high readout contrast (-30%) and a high photon count rate (150 kilo counts per second) under ambient conditions, which are competitive with the nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centres in diamond. Coupling between a single defect spin and a nearby nuclear spin is also observed. We further provide a theoretical explanation for the high readout contrast by analysing the defect levels and decay paths. Since the high readout contrast is of utmost importance in many applications of quantum technologies, this work might open a new territory for SiC-based quantum devices with many advanced properties of the host material., Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures

Recently, vacancy-related spin defects in silicon carbide (SiC) have been demonstrated to be potentially suitable for versatile quantum interface building and scalable quantum network construction. Significant efforts have been undertaken to identify spin systems in SiC and to extend their quantum capabilities using large-scale growth and advanced nanofabrication methods. Here we demonstrated a type of spin defect in the 4H polytype of SiC generated via hydrogen ion implantation with high-temperature post-annealing, which is different from any known defects. These spin defects can be optically addressed and coherently controlled even at room temperature, and their fluorescence spectrum and optically detected magnetic resonance spectra are different from those of any previously discovered defects. Moreover, the generation of these defects can be well controlled by optimizing the annealing temperature after implantation. These defects demonstrate high thermal stability with coherently controlled electron spins, facilitating their application in quantum sensing and masers under harsh conditions., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures

Defect spins in silicon carbide have become promising platforms with respect to quantum information processing and quantum sensing. Indeed, the optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) of defect spins is the cornerstone of the applications. In this work, we systematically investigate the contrast and linewidth of laser-and microwave power-dependent ODMR with respect to ensemble-divacancy spins in silicon carbide at room temperature. The results suggest that magnetic field sensing sensitivity can be improved by a factor of 10 for the optimized laser and microwave power range. The experiment will be useful for the applications of silicon carbide defects in quantum information processing and ODMR-dependent quantum sensing.

Solid-state color centers with manipulatable spin qubits and telecom-ranged fluorescence are ideal platforms for quantum communications and distributed quantum computations. In this work, we coherently control the nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center spins in silicon carbide at room temperature, in which telecom-wavelength emission is detected. We increase the NV concentration six-fold through optimization of implantation conditions. Hence, coherent control of NV center spins is achieved at room temperature and the coherence time T2 can be reached to around 17.1 {\mu}s. Furthermore, investigation of fluorescence properties of single NV centers shows that they are room temperature photostable single photon sources at telecom range. Taking advantages of technologically mature materials, the experiment demonstrates that the NV centers in silicon carbide are promising platforms for large-scale integrated quantum photonics and long-distance quantum networks., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures

Starburst galaxies are huge reservoirs of cosmic rays (CRs) and these CRs convert a significant fraction of their energy into gamma-rays by colliding with the interstellar medium (ISM). The produced GeV gamma-ray emission is temporally stable and the flux is found to correlate well with indicators of star formation rates, such as the total infrared (IR) luminosity $L_{\rm IR}$ and monochromatic radio continuum luminosity at 1.4 GHz $L_{\rm 1.4\ GHz}$, i.e., following $L_{\gamma}-L_{\rm IR}$ and $L_{\gamma}-L_{\rm 1.4\ GHz}$ relations. Recently, gamma-ray excesses are reported to be spatially coincident with two starburst galaxies NGC 3424 and UGC 11041 in the fourth \textsl{Fermi} Large Area Telescope (LAT) source catalog (4FGL). Different from other starburst galaxies detected by \textsl{Fermi}-LAT, we find that the gamma-ray emission associated with NGC 3424 and UGC 11041 show significant flux variability. With relatively weak infrared and radio emission, NGC 3424 and UGC 11041 appear as outliers of the $L_{\gamma}-L_{\rm IR}$ and $L_{\gamma}-L_{\rm 1.4\ GHz}$ relations of starburst galaxies. These results suggest that NGC 3424 and UGC 11041 may harbor obscured active galactic nuclei (AGNs) and the AGN activities provide the dominant contribution to the gamma-ray emission as compared to that provided by the starburst activities., Comment: accepted by ApJ

Defects in silicon carbide have been explored as promising spin systems in quantum technologies. However, for practical quantum metrology and quantum communication, it is critical to achieve the on-demand shallow spin-defect generation. In this work, we present the generation and characterization of shallow silicon vacancies in silicon carbide by using different implanted ions and annealing conditions. The conversion efficiency of silicon vacancy of helium ions is shown to be higher than that by carbon and hydrogen ions in a wide implanted fluence range. Furthermore, after optimizing annealing conditions, the conversion efficiency can be increased more than 2 times. Due to the high density of the generated ensemble defects, the sensitivity to sense a static magnetic field can be research as high as , which is about 15 times higher than previous results. By carefully optimizing implanted conditions, we further show that a single silicon vacancy array can be generated with about 80 % conversion efficiency, which reaches the highest conversion yield in solid state systems. Great efforts have been made to the investigation of defects in silicon carbide for their attractive optical and spin properties. However, most of the researches are implemented at low and room temperature. Little is known about the spin coherent property at high temperature. Here, we experimentally demonstrate coherent control of divacancy defect spins in silicon carbide above 550 K. The spin properties of defects ranging from room temperature to 600 K are investigated, in which the zero-field-splitting is found to have a polynomial temperature dependence and the spin coherence time decreases as the temperature increases. Moreover, as an example of application, we demonstrate a thermal sensing using the Ramsey method at about 450 K. Our experimental results would be useful for the investigation of high temperature properties of defect spins and silicon carbide-based broad-temperature range quantum sensing., Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures

We present HCN J=4-3 and HCO^+ J=4-3 maps of six nearby star-forming galaxies, NGC 253, NGC 1068, IC 342, M82, M83, and NGC 6946, obtained with the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope as part of the MALATANG survey. All galaxies were mapped in the central 2 arcmin $\times$ 2 arcmin region at 14 arcsec (FWHM) resolution (corresponding to linear scales of ~ 0.2-1.0 kpc). The L_IR-L'_dense relation, where the dense gas is traced by the HCN J=4-3 and the HCO^+ J=4-3 emission, measured in our sample of spatially-resolved galaxies is found to follow the linear correlation established globally in galaxies within the scatter. We find that the luminosity ratio, L_IR/L'_dense, shows systematic variations with L_IR within individual spatially resolved galaxies, whereas the galaxy-integrated ratios vary little. A rising trend is also found between L_IR/L'_dense ratio and the warm-dust temperature gauged by the 70 \mu m/100 \mu m flux ratio. We find the luminosity ratios of IR/HCN(4-3) and IR/HCO^+(4-3), which can be taken as a proxy for the efficiency of star formation in the dense molecular gas (SFE_dense), appears to be nearly independent of the dense-gas fraction (f_dense) for our sample of galaxies. The SFE of the total molecular gas (SFE_mol) is found to increase substantially with f_dense when combining our data with that on local (ultra)luminous infrared galaxies and high-z quasars. The mean L'_HCN(4-3)/L'_HCO^+(4-3) line ratio measured for the six targeted galaxies is 0.9+/-0.6. No significant correlation is found for the L'_HCN(4-3)/L'_HCO^+(4-3) ratio with the SFR as traced by L_IR, nor with the warm-dust temperature, for the different populations of galaxies., Comment: 29 pages, 12 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ
